Finalmente, después de 20 y algo de años, por fin pude cumplir uno de mis sueños de tipo "santo grial" (quizás no tanto, OOF, tengo muchos de ellos, la verdad) de mi adolescencia, y ese fue...

Sigo sin creer que poseo lo que es conocida para muchos como la versión "original" (ahorita me pongo a explicar un poco esto, porque no es del todo cierto) del manga de Corrector Yui, hecho por su creador/autor, Kia Asamiya.

Es algo que nunca me imaginé que pasaría. A decir verdad, yo ya lo creía algo "imposible" , quizás "sumamente raro", porque en esta última década yo creo que conseguir mercancía "vintage" de CorreYui se ha vuelto un poco "modo muy difícil", porque parece que NADIE quiere soltar sus cosas (deja de lado lo que son los artículos/juguetes tipo cosplay que siempre rondan en más de 40k~ yen), y MENOS a precios "accesibles", por así decirlo. Por ejemplo, en 2017 hubo una reedición oficial del OST de la serie (compuesta por Kenji Kawai) por parte de Universal Music Japan siendo parte de una colección de más de 100 títulos a precios de 1000 yen c/u, yo siendo como soy, me compré los 3 volúmenes como mi regalo de cumpleaños en aquella época. En segunda mano, hoy en día, me ha tocado verlos a los precios que veía las ediciones originales de 1999/2000 en tipo 2014/2016. Así, así.

El manga (en sus dos versiones) es relativamente igual, y he estado intentando cazar que alguien vendiera (por lo menos) los de Asamiya juntos a un precio "razonable". Las palabras clave aquí siendo "juntos" y "razonable". Y así estuve estos dos últimos años. Entre mis otras prioridades, los vi un día y admito que fue muuuy impulsivo... hasta que alguien me los ganó y cancelaron mi orden... PERO la semana posterior a esa... 👀

Siempre he mitificado el manga de Corrector Yui en sus dos versiones desde que estaba relativamente empezando mi adolescencia. No había mucho a la mano en un internet entrañable y primitivo más que un par de fansites que tienen igual un poco más de 20 años sin existir que te describían más o menos que rollos de lo que trataban... pero supongo que entre cosa y cosa... pues, qué podían hacer sobre una serie que todavía era relativamente "nueva" a inicios de los 2000s y que todavía tenían esperanza de que le fuera "relativamente" bien dado a que Viz y Tokyopop intentaron exportarla sin mucho éxito alguno (uno de estos fansites tenía un poco más de material disponible que, para desgracias de desgracias no fue archivado adecuadamente en el Internet Archive y hoy en día aún no está disponible en su totalidad). CorreYui es un poco más "infantil" a nivel superficial que Sailor Moon y Cardcaptor Sakura, no lo voy a negar, y con EUA entrando en su burbuja del animanga de los 2000s, supongo que CorreYui fue una más del montón para muchos que no pudo sobresalir. Y acá en Latinoamérica, las comparaciones con CCS se dieron a venir por comentarios que rallaban de infantiles de "copia" cuando fue la serie que la reemplazó en su horario en Cartoon Network Latam (sin saber que tiene muchos clichés del Magical Shoujo como otras series de antes y después de esta, así que no es necesariamente "copia" porque, comparte muchas cosas incluido el drama del majokko, ¿no es así?). No quita que se hizo de culto con los años en esta región (y ni qué decir en Italia), por así decirlo.

Cuando digo "mitificado" es que siempre te lo ponían de este modo. "Es que mira, hay dos versiones del manga. Una es por una autora y está la otra por el autor original", "el anime está basado en cual-sea de las dos", y así y así. Y es información bastante mixta porque la accesibilidad y porque no era TAN común saber que era posible que un proyecto original de anime PUDIERA tener adaptaciones a manga (o que pudieran existir simultáneamente dos publicaciones basadas en la misma propiedad, por poner el ejemplo de "Los Diarios de la Boticaria", hoy en día). La verdad, no me quiero clavar mucho en esto (quizás haré otro post/artículo o lo que sea al respecto) pero básicamente uno se quedaba con una idea con lo poco de información disponible en su tiempo. Y luego te das a entender "es que, realmente ninguna de las versiones del manga es LA original", porque la serie fue conceptualizada como anime en primer lugar.

Okamoto juega un poco con su adaptación a hacer el rollo más "shoujo", es decir, hay momentos que lo hacen más dramático (no estoy muy del todo de acuerdo con que a Grosser lo haga "bishonen", lol, pero siempre he pensado que se inspiró mucho en el anime de Sailor Moon; y luego está el rollo de Yui en Ver.2 en confundir lo de Shun y Ai con un rollo BASTANTE incestuoso, lmao), pero es porque tengo el anime muy dentro de mi cabeza y memoria, y sé que al manga le hace falta... algo más, sin importar lo interesante que es ver su propia versión del argumento (regresando a Ver.2, yo sí creo que Okamoto hizo un poquito más con el resto de los correctores que lo que el anime, eso sí).

Asamiya es similar. Yo me sabía cosillas porque los fansites antes mencionados, y recuerdo un breve recuento de cómo Yui se alía al resto de los correctores en esta versión que es igual de sintetizada y diferente como la de Okamoto. No creo que debamos considerar su visión EXACTAMENTE como la "original", pues al final del día el anime se hizo con un conjunto de personas que le dieron un poco más de profundidad y moldearon a los conceptos originales de Asamiya (es más, los volúmenes te ponen interesantes detalles extra de conceptos con los que Asamiya estuvo jugando inicialmente para el anime, haciendo que POR FIN comprendiera otro montón de chistes que parecen internos entre los fans japoneses de antaño desde hace 20 años, lmao). También es importante considerar que la adaptación de Okamoto fue lanzada tal cual en formato tankoubon, y la de Asamiya fue serializada en la revista Ciao, todo mientras el anime estaba en transmisión. Lo que sí, es que se me hace interesante la perspectiva de Asamiya, sobretodo en como el climax importante de la primera temporada sale como sale, lo que me parece como el "desplazamiento" de amistad entre dos amigas en plena adolescencia (con como el internet y la realidad virtual estaban muy predominantes en sus vidas)... y luego parece que el manga se quedó inconcluso ANTES de la batalla final. ESTE detalle nadie parece (o pareció) mencionarlo, pero el manga se queda en un "continuará" y ha quedado así desde hace 24 años, *shrugs*.

Sigo en total incredulidad con tener en físico el manga de la adaptación de Asamiya, en general. De verdad. Es raro tenerlo a la mano junto a mi copia del "Daydream Hour" de Ryoko Kui y el chorro de manga que he comprado por parte de Panini MX (ahorita el que está encima de estos es "Insomnes Después de la Escuela" vol. 5, porque lo ando leyendo, lol... pero eso es porque ando peleándome para organizar cosas de mi cuarto), luego de 20 y algo de años "soñando" en comprarlo. Ahora bien, me gustaría poder leerlo y confirmar otros detalles que recuerdo a medias, lol.

Me voy a ir luego más a fondo sobre este manga luego, creo yo.

(ahora si pudiera desbancar fácil más de 1200 pesos para los DVD-Box set... del que, YO sé que la primera temporada tiene rollos con el formato del tamaño de pantalla... pero las cajas con arte original de Asamiya y los folletos extra... es una lástima que es el 25vo aniversario de la serie este año y todavía ni anuncio de un BD Box Set con esa posible corrección...)

Ésta es una de las principales razones por las que 3/4 partes del mundo odia a Sakura Haruno.

Me resulta gracioso que es de los resultados más populares cuando buscas en google algo relativo a confesiones.

Los hinanaru y anti-sakura han hecho burla a los sentimientos de Naruto en especial por esta escena, titulándola como “la muerte del narusaku”.

He visto incluso imágenes editadas en las que ponen a Naruto pensando en los senos de Hinata mientras Sakura se le confiesa, y yo me quedo con cara de "khe?"

Dicen que ella lo hizo pretendiendo jugar con los sentimientos del rubio. Cómo se nota que no conocen a los personajes.

¿Fue falsa?

Sí.

¿Fue con malas intenciones?

No.

Esto será un poco largo. Veamos el trasfondo de la historia detrás de esta escena:

Sai fue testigo de la increíble firmeza con la que Naruto es capaz de defender a Sasuke, viendo cómo se dejó golpear por Karui casi hasta la muerte, terminando con su cara y cuerpo vendados.

-"Deberías dejar que Sakura te revise estas heridas".

-"No, está bien. Si ella me ve así, causaría más problemas".

Naruto no quiere preocupar a Sakura.

El rubio partió en un intento de conseguir el perdón del raikage hacia el ninja desertor, acompañado de Kakashi y Yamato.

Sai está preocupado porque Naruto es tan terco. Los recuerdos recorren su mente:

-"Te gusta Sakura, ¿verdad?"

-"¡¿Qué!?" - reacciona Naruto, sonrojado.

-"Todo lo que ha sufrido por ti, incluso se ha dejado meter una paliza para proteger a Sasuke. Él no quería que supieras nada ni lo vieras cuando estaba lastimado. ¡Incluso yo puedo decir que Naruto te ama! No sé qué tipo de promesa hicieron, pero es como una maldición, como si él intentara llevar esa carga por el resto de su vida. Sasuke es la fuente de la agonía de Naruto... ¿tú también serás parte de ella?"

Al escuchar cada palabra, Sakura no pudo hacer más que llorar. La frialdad y sinceridad de Sai la dejaron muda por un rato.

Shikamaru entra de forma inoportuna y les dice que han decidido acabar con Sasuke Uchiha, sin importar lo que Sakura, Naruto o alguien más piense.

Naruto ha fracasado en su intento de conseguir que el raikage perdonara a Sasuke por todos sus pecados.

Él, Kakashi y Yamato se han enterado de la verdad detrás de Itachi Uchiha y el por qué su hermano se ha vuelto un emo vengador.

Un grupo pequeño de búsqueda decide ir tras Sasuke y acabar con él. Todos en Konoha estaban de acuerdo con eso.

El problema sería decirle a Naruto que lo abandone, sin lastimarlo.

Sakura ha tomado una decisión y quiere hablar con Naruto.

Se acerca la infame escena...

Manga #469/Anime #206: ¡¡La Confesión de Sakura!!

Algunos presentes se han quedado con cara de 'impaktados'.

-"Lo que he dicho, Naruto... Es Que... Te Amo..." - repite Sakura, con un curioso sonrojo.

Naruto se sonrojó también y quedó atónito por un momento (el sonrojo fue omitido en el anime)

Durante esta confesión, Sakura menciona que Sasuke ya no significa nada para ella. Es ahí cuando Naruto pierde el brillo en sus ojos.

Esa es la parte favorita de los haters. Ellos ríen e ignoran completamente lo que sigue.

-"Est... ¿Estás diciendo que me estoy mintiendo a mí misma? ¡Tú no decides sobre mis verdaderos sentimientos! ¡¡Si me odias solo dímelo a la cara!!"

-"¡Esto es porque es extraño! ¡Decir algo como esto ahora!"

-"...Algo... ¿¡como esto!? La confesión de una chica... ¿¡crees que es algo para tomarlo a la ligera!? ¡Vine todo el camino hasta aquí para esto! Tú y Sasuke, Sasuke, siempre es lo mismo. Resumiré la conversación de Sai con Naruto, poco después de la confesión de Sakura:

-"Konoha va a eliminar a Sasuke por su cuenta. Tus ex-compañeros se están preparando para actuar mientras hablamos".

-"¡Y Sakura-chan! ¿¡Sakura-chan está de acuerdo con esto también!? ¡Ella ama a Sasuke! Ella simplemente no-"

-"Dejarlo vivo solo sembrará las semillas de la guerra. Ahora él es otro criminal. Sakura tampoco es estúpida, ella entiende la posición en la que Sasuke nos colocó a todos. Olvidar a Sasuke y elegirte a ti fue el camino que Sakura había decidido y te libraría de tu promesa. Ella simplemente no pudo decirte la verdad. Cuando te negaste a dejar de salvarlo... Ella solo pensaba en ti. Y... creo que tú entendiste eso".

-"No puede ser... Sakura-chan jamás... Ella ama tanto a Sasuke".

-"Lo ama... Ella no quiere que se hunda más profundo. Quiere rescatarlo del camino del mal por el cual camina ahora. Incluso si la única manera de hacerlo es matándolo con sus propias manos, creo que está preparada para hacerlo. Lo que también significa que está dispuesta a que la odies para siempre, Naruto. Creo que es su manera de expiarse por ponerte esa carga de promesa tantos años. Ella pidió mucho de ti... Así que está intentando terminar todo esto ella misma".

Lamento haber citado tanto texto, fue necesario para poder justificar mi opinión. Si se lee detenidamente, es obvio que no tuvo malas intenciones.

Muchos dicen Sakura fue egoísta y pretendía jugar con Naruto. Al menos en mi perspectiva, no lo parece.

¿Es egoísta pensar en el bienestar de alguien que tanto aprecias, incluso si eso significa ganarte su odio, estando dispuesta a renunciar y asesinar a la persona que amas?

Es curioso que ella mencionara cosas que son verdad en su confesión: Sasuke se aleja de ella y Naruto estuvo ahí, creció a su lado, siempre la hizo sonreír. Siempre creí en el narusaku por eso, porque Sakura pudo haber reconocido al hombre que protegía su sonrisa, tuvieron una vida en conjunto y tanto afecto como preocupación mutua. Si eso era en una simple amistad, un amor igualmente mutuo pudo haber florecido.

Lo más importante que todos ignoran: el motivo de su confesión. Ella misma dijo que quería que Naruto abandonara a Sasuke, se alejara del peligro que conlleva ser un jinchuriki siendo objetivo de akatsuki, y su promesa. Ella intentaba hacer que Naruto dejara de lastimarse a sí mismo y volviera seguro a la aldea, junto a ella.

Como lo he mencionado siempre: cuando Sakura le miente a Naruto es para protegerlo.

Otro detalle pequeño: los sonrojos son involuntarios.

¿Sakura es una mala persona?

Hay muchas formas de proteger a alguien, no solo poniéndote en medio de una pelea para que te den una golpiza.

En esta escena demostró que puede darlo todo por salvar a las 2 personas más importantes para ella, incluso su vínculo con ambos.

Ya… pero la única frase de todo ese show que los haters leen es “odio a la gente que se miente a sí misma”. Naruto le respondió eso porque no podía creer que Sakura dejara de amar a Sasuke de forma tan repentina, cuando hace poco lloraba porque querían decapitarlo.

Obviamente el nene consentido no dejó de amar a su flor de cerezo en ese instante; sino no, no me hubiera dicho con gusto que es su novia cuando la conocí

The Forced Romance in The Last: Naruto the Movie

Naruto is artificially made to realize his feelings for Hinata through chakra-induced visions, rather than through meaningful development. Hinata Had More Potential Before the Timeskip

Looking at her earlier characterization, it’s clear Hinata had the potential to be much more than what she became post-timeskip. Pre-Shippuden, she was a compelling character struggling with self-doubt, familial pressure, and her desire to prove her own worth. The Chūnin Exams arc established her as a character with a strong internal conflict—her struggles against Neji and her admiration for Naruto could have led to an independent growth arc. However, after the timeskip, much of her personality is flattened, and her development stagnates. Her shy determination, which once made her an interesting character with room to evolve, is reduced to a passive love interest role with little personal growth outside of Naruto’s narrative.

He said he was surprised that a lot of people expected Naruto to end up with Sakura and that even his wife was angry over the fact that they didn't end up together. He tried to convince her that Hinata was modeled after her, but she caught onto the fact that he was lying. (Doesn't his wife know that he basically wrote a tragic gay love story?) Didn't he also say that she was like Kushina? But Naruto is his self insert? And Boruto is a message to his son? (Please correct me if any of this information is wrong). Do you think he's even divulged the true story he was writing to anyone? I don't know the writing process, but do you think his editors or assistants even know? Can’t say for sure whether he divulged it to his Friends or Family. But When it comes to writing process, He couldn’t have been keeping it secret from his Assistants or even from his Editor forever. My hunch is that not everyone (even his Assistants) would have picked up the Subtexts from the Get-Go. Atleast Not in Part 1. 

They might have very well taken that Accidental Kiss as another Joke and Sasuke dying for Naruto is just a basic Shonen/Chinese novel Concept for Brothers & Friends. Not something specifically Romantic.

But as the series progressed further and further or at least by the end of VoTE1, his Assistants and Editors would’ve found out what he was trying to write. There’s no way that they could be Oblivious beyond that point.... And not for 699 chapters.

This interview was from a Fanbook that was released around 2008 or 2009, I don’t remember exactly when. But The Author was trying to get a Green Signal from his Editor to use Reverse Harem no Jutsu in his Manga. And it’s precisely because of it’s Controversial Nature, the Editor refused outright for all those years.

hello <3 since i got these asks at the same time i decided to combine my thoughts on them in this post. yet another annoying sjw essay from yours truly on this blog 

before i get into these i think i need to preface why im like. i guess overly hyperfocused on a certain unproblematic base (same age au / platonic canon) for them and avoid the ped0philic content like the plague lol

as i’ve mentioned a couple times already, ive been into the ship since i was 12, back when it was very very common to not only post untagged (nsfw) canonverse content of the two in writing and in drawing but also non con and the like, so you can imagine how bad my first impression online was. thinking back on it ...as a child i found it disturbing but didnt really register how problematic it really was?? (i know, but i also lived in the middle of nowhere and had no one explain this to me) 

skip to 2014 aka me coming back to naruto at 17ish and i had kinda become hyper aware of the fact that there was an increasing amount of people online who had come forward with explaining how fictional problematic content, mostly pedophilia, had been used to groom them into starting relationships with adullts. it was also a time where a lot of people didnt believe these victims, not registering how common it was for minors to be online friends with adults who had no boundaries and no qualms exposing them such content. not gonna get into my personal life here but i was lucky to not having gone through this myself. like... it kinda was my first time truly realising how fiction can EASILY be used to manipulate others irl (and yes i will not argue this, if you dont think fictional media can form and manipulate people’s opinions on attitudes, countries, cultures and virtues, pick up a book about the effects of propaganda media at least once please) 

i, being young, still liking the dynamic but not really the romance, would point this out here and there in the fandom and get into fights with grown adults in their mid 20s who assumed i automatically hated the ship(s) and tried to restrict their freedom of speech or whatever, heard everything from the “age of consent doesnt exist in naruto” to the “sasori looks like a child what does it matter” despite people clearly playing on him being older and experienced. it made me so upset that people were just consuming all this content uncritically and exposing children to it tbh?? not really just sos but a lot of minor/adult ships in naruto in general. and thats where i sat down and thought, i do not want to be a grown adult talking down to children that point out how unsafe the fandom is. theyre absolutely right in drawing these boundaries and calling out adults who defend the uncritical consumption and creation of this content. i do not want to consume or create content that predators could use to groom minors, and i absolutely do want to let younger people in fandom know that i am respecting their comfort zones and want them to have a safe and fun experience. after all, naruto is not an adult show and i think a lot of people forget that!!!! i am not perfect in that regard but its something that i, at the age of 23, am very passionate about and strive towards to.

and i guess thats where same age au was born for me and i have been sticking to it ever since. 

so finally we can move to the first question 

aside from the fact that we both dont like canon sos, i dont think it would work out even if i wasnt prejudiced to it anyways. in all honesty, 35 year old canon sasori is not a redeemable character to me, given the fact that he’s easily amongst the cruelest villains in naruto (torturing and killing and taxiderming people for his own fun personal gain, never for a goal that served anyone but himself. how do you redeem having over 300 corpses in your backpack that you felt absolutely no remorse for killing). sasori was legit one of the only cruel villains that didnt had someone else pull the strings, which sends a clear message on kishi’s part, who absolutely loves to redeem villains LOL.

being that old, he obviously had already been very manifested in what he believed in, even if it was shakey, to the point where the first crack in that world view (sakura and chiyo protecting each other) immediately had him give up on his life all together. that, in my opinion, is not a man who’s going to know what healthy relationships would look like, regardless of it being romantic or not. 35 year old sasori to me has the same appeal as an expired can of tuna and he’s probably very happy 6 feet under. he’s supposed to be a failed gaara in that sense that he had no one to look out for him and therefore was never going to experience anything but a bad ending in life. its fine that hes dead honestly, it wraps up his short character development the best IMO.

adding to that, seriously, sakura was obviously interested in knowing why he was that way, and called him out for being seriously fucked in the head, but it’s weird to me that people assume she had any interest in actively rehabilitating him, let alone starting a serious romantic relationship with him. sakura who’s not only very, uhm, immature and straight forward when it comes to her romantic viewpoints also, as a big bootlicker, wouldnt soil her standing in the village by starting anything with a disgraced and far too gone criminal like sasori. shipping that version of sasori with sakura intimately is still going to set her up for a huge power imbalance that would be difficult to handle imo, even if she was the one in the fight ultimately exerting her power over him. i would still look at it and think damn she deserves better than having to play therapist for man like that lol.

additionally, even if you ignored all of this, you cant really ignore that sasori had already known her as a child, and that had been his first and most impactful impression of her. i dont think that sasori would look at 35 year old sakura and see her as a grown woman and not the little green girl she was in the fight. plus, you easily fall into predatory comparison territory between the “childish” and “womanly” and i have seen way too often in fic just being boiled down to her now being fuckable. a lot of of ships do this and i would just like to remind yall thats it not normal for adults to want to start relationships with children they have seen grown up or known as a child when they themselves were fully grown adults. therefore, maybe if sakura hadnt met sasori before it would be less of a problem? but that also obviously defeats the point of the dynamic and the reason he died in the first place. so yeah, it sounds kind of doomed especially if you were to make it romantic. 

WHICH BRINGS ME TO THE SECOND QUESTION

let me preface this that im not fundamentally against age gaps, even if im not super interested in it. after all, colorblind had a 5 yr age gap (with sakura being 21), even if, say, i wrote similar fics today i probably would make it smaller lol. i think it can be handled well if both parties have enough life experience to deal with it, and the author is cautious of where the age gap starts, i think a 10+ year age gap would be fine in a scenario where the younger party (i guess sakura) was at least 25-27ish, meaning she has completed most of her most formative life stages and probably had been in relationships before, meaning she would be able to handle it without having to fear a huge power imbalance. the older the younger party is the less the age gap is going to matter tbh .TsukiHoshino and AngelOfDeath10 both handle age gaps in their fics really well imo, so i do not mind reading about them.

unfortunately, a lot of people in this fandom think making sakura barely "”””legal””””” (18, not even 20 which is hilarious to me because the source material is obviously japanese) because they both cannot stand her being past her “prime years” of being young fertile and fuckable to much older men as well as thinking a 20 year old is automatically old enough to handle that type of relationship. ive seen a lot of unironic takes that believe it will absolve them of callout posts if they throw around age of consent and “shes 18 now suckers!!!” enough lmfao. absolutely hilarious. aging a minor up without aging the adult down seriously reeks of predatory “cant wait until youre 18″ narratives and thats why i find it similarly disturbing as straight up pedo shipping.

ultimately, sasosaku is and will always be a inherently problematic ship in canon, which is why i think it should always be handled a little more responsibly in fandom spaces, ignoring or outright excusing the main problem factor, which is sasori, isnt going to convince anyone that the dynamic in itself is well written and interesting enough to explore in aus, like giving sasori the redemption most of us wanted him to have by aging him down to a point in time where he was still realistically going to allow being positively influenced, similar to gaara. 

so really, what i think is well handled age gap and how most people handle age gap in the naruto fandom are two different worlds at times lol 

tl;dr

canon shippers have never been anything but gross when i was younger and i didnt wanna be like that, even if youre “smart”enough to differenate, actual creeps dont really care and might use your content to blur the lines, sasori isnt rly redeemable so romantic canonverse realistically wouldnt make much sense and is still iffy, age gaps are fine if they are handled well, but given that the dynamic doesnt really need the age gap to still work im not that invested on making that an essential part of my shipping experience.

COSPLAY IN ALASKA : Matt Jarvis

Remembering my childhood, I believe My Neighbor Totoro was my first anime feature film, didn’t mind the dubbed version until discovering subbed versions of animes in my high school years. 

My first con was Senshi Con 2007, and it was not only the biggest stress relief I needed but also opened my imagination of a new hobbies of cosplay, being involved in gaming, and seeing everyone showing off their creativity.

Having attended 10 Senshi Cons(2007-2014, 2016-2019), 6 out of state cons(ALA, ECCC, Aurora Con, Sakura Con, Dragon Con, and SDCC) is showing that this hobby will never end for me.

Tell me about your new workshop

Having a rushed move to a downsized condo wasn’t going to be easy when Senshi Con 2017 was approaching fast, luckily with a help of a friend we managed to set up and organize most of my props, wigs, and finished cosplays. Hopefully in the future I’ll be able to make advanced cosplays for either local or out of state cons.

How did you decided on doing Matt and what was the response like at Senshi Con ?

Matt the radar technician was a cosplay that I said, “I’m going to make this happen, plus we share the same name.” after seeing the SNL sketch.  He’s been one of my favorite cosplays all year, showing it off at ALA, ECCC, and finally at Senshi Con where everyone responded with positive feedback, plus trying to get me to break character where I can respond with various Kylo Ren fury outburst but then had to channel it back into saying “Oh I’m really Kylo Ren.”

Amelia Gaitán

-Me siento como Sakura cuando convirtió varias cartas Clow a cartas Sakura de golpe.

Eso me suele decir cada vez que tiene un día pesado. Esa referencia traduce un cansancio mental y emocional. Generalmente enuncia la frase, termina de abotonarse el pijama y se acuesta sobre mi pecho y en cuestión de minutos, mientras le acaricio su cabello se desvanece en un profundo sueño. La primera vez que salimos a tomar un café, de su cuello colgaba una cadena con una pequeña estrellita bordeada por un círculo rosado, dos alitas pequeñitas a sus laterales y debajo de ella una llave. No dude en preguntarle, me sonrió enseguida. Me contó que vio ese anime estando muy chiquita y lo repitió cuantas veces pudo. A veces la descubro repitiendo algunas escenas importantes en YouTube.

Amelia dice que Sakura Card Captors fue elemental para entender las múltiples maneras de amar. Que ver una serie donde había relaciones homosexuales y se tratan con total normalidad hizo que ella jamás viera con rechazo a personas con orientaciones sexuales diversas. Como también me confesó que su primer amor de la infancia fue Shaoran Li. Le brillan los ojos cuando lo menciona, dice que su ideal del amor lo construyó a raíz del cuidado, ayuda y apoyo que le brindó este personaje a Sakura. Cómo también deseo profundamente tener una amiga como Tomoyo y en efecto, Elenora es su amiga más cercana, que curiosamente tiene una marca de ropa y le confecciona camisas muy seguido.

A veces siento celos por superar las expectativas infundadas por Shaoran Li.

Cuando Amelia habla de sus padres lo hace a través de momentos muy claros y precisos. Su amor por la radio viene de su padre. Todos los domingos desde que era muy niña se sentaba con él a escuchar el programa de Historia del Mundo de Diana Uribe, lo comentaban y ella le hacía preguntas en un acto pedagógico en el que ambos aprendían del otro. Ahora se envían los podcasts y aunque lo escuchan en tiempos diferentes y a sus propios ritmos se llaman para socializar y discutir lo escuchado.

Ella me cuenta que en los anaqueles de la biblioteca de su casa de la infancia había un libro que siempre le llamó la atención y que su papá reiteraba que aún no estaba lista para leer. El libro tiene en su portada la foto antigua de una niña rubia con un violín en sus manos y se titula: “El olvido que seremos”. Cuando su padre se fue a vivir a Bogotá, ella le dijo que en la universidad le sugirieron leer el libro, su papá le mandó el dinero y se lo compró. Así que, en una sala de espera, mientras esperaba su turno para reclamar unos medicamentos lloró enternecidamente una vez terminó de leerlo. Comprendió porque su papá paseaba al libro a todos lados, porque repetía su lectura y cuando descubrió la visceral asociación del poema de Borges con el título de la novela su desolación fue peor. Lloró la violencia de este país, lloró las masacres, la corrupción, y sobre todo sin entender porqué se puso a imaginar el día de la muerte de su padre y como esto la destrozaría por completo.

Cuando inició la cuarentena se despertaba a media noche llorando. Me decía que tenía miedo de perder a su papá que cumple los requisitos para ser población de riesgo: mayor de setenta años, diabético e hipertenso. Y aunque mi suegro está muy bien y lleva meses que no sale ni a la recepción del edificio, ella siente miedo de perderlo y si pasa una semana y no lo llama o escucha su voz, la invade la ansiedad. Me mira con los ojos desorbitados y me dice: El día que mi padre se vaya me voy yo con él. Ahora juntos no vemos el momento en que podamos ver la película de Fernando Trueba sobre este desgarrador libro.

En lo que confiere a su madre hay una escena clara: Amelia siendo una bebé de meses o un año quizás, metida en su cuna aferrada a las barandas viendo con su mamá alguna telenovela. Si nos ubicamos en los noventa, debió ser Esmeralda, Cuna de lobos, Café o La Potra Zaina. Y así sería por los años siguientes en los que las telenovelas tuvieron parte esencial en su educación sexual y sentimental. Amelia puede hacer una tesis o hablar por horas de las industrias de las telenovelas, puede enumerar las de Cris Morena y cantar algunas bandas sonoras; discutir los detalles de las producciones de las telenovelas de Carla Estrada o sacar una lista de razones del porqué Adela Noriega fue tan icónica y ninguna otra actriz alcanzará su belleza y genialidad.

La última novela con la que estuvo obsesionada fue La Ley del Corazón y reafirma que si tuviera más tiempo tendría un canal en YouTube donde analizaría cada novela, en especial el discurso machista y las creencias erradas sobre el amor en cada una de estas historias.

Sin embargo, hay una serie que siempre le recuerda el ideal de relación que le gustaría tener con su madre, por eso mientras cambiaba de canal en Warner vio Gilmore Girls. Se ha leído la mayoría de libros que Rory menciona, a veces creo que estudió periodismo por lo mismo, pero también la relación Rory  y Lorelai le causa gran frustración, porque mientras ellas tienen rituales, se cuidan sus tusas y se expresan su amor la relación de Amelia y Amalia (porque a sus padres le pareció sencillo cambiar una vocal del nombre de su mamá para elegir el de ella) es una relación llena de desencuentros, gritos, peleas, temporadas sin hablarse, visiones opuestas de la vida. Me dice que su mamá es imposible porque es escorpio y ella es leo, pero una vez vio Lady Bird y evidenció una relación madre e hija más honesta, sintió un poco de consuelo.

Cuando habla de sus amigas es inevitable que no hable de campos de fresas, de Lucy en el cielo con diamantes, de submarinos amarillos. Incluso tiene una lista en Spotify que dura ¡veinticuatro horas! De las bandas sonoras de su adolescencia. Amelia estaba en once grado, cuando en un festival de inglés ocurrió lo inesperado: cuatro chicas de décimo grado vestidas de negro, con corbata y el cabello recogido hasta los hombros salieron a cantar: All you need is Love. Nadie nunca había cantado alguna canción de The Beatles, solían reversionar a Britney o alguna de High School Musical o un caso más extraño a Sinatra, pero a los Beatles ¡Nunca! Ella toda su secundaria se sintió un bicho raro, porque nadie compartía sus gustos musicales y cuando vio a estas cuatro mujeres en escena se propuso conocerlas y ser su amiga: “Las vi, las amé y las elegí”, dice cuando empieza a contar esta historia que disfruto escuchar.

Para ella la amistad femenina es una forma elevada del amor. Han pasado diez años desde ese festival de inglés y ella defiende a cada una con la vida. Posterior a este encuentro se sumaron otros artistas y canciones, pero en especial uno: Gustavo Cerati.

Descubrí su obsesión por Cerati, cuando vi por primera vez un tatuaje que tiene en la parte inferior de uno de sus pechos, allí dice en letra cursiva y pequeña: “La poesía es la única verdad”. Para ella Cerati es un poeta, no a nivel estructural, pero si un hombre alado que definió y acompañó momentos cruciales de su vida. Me cuenta que, en el 2014, una de sus amigas la llamó y le preguntó si había leído las noticias, ella para entonces hacía sus prácticas laborales en un periódico local. Llegó a su cubículo encendió el computador y leyó lo inesperado: Gustavo Cerati había muerto. Quedó en blanco y se puso a llorar, hizo un duelo de semanas como si hubiera perdido a un pariente muy cercano. Luego de esa terrible noticia, le sucedieron videollamadas con sus amigas en las que ponían alguna canción y lloraban a cántaros.

Amelia Gaitán tiene muy mala memoria para memorizar poemas aun cuando siendo una niña se llevaba todos los aplausos en los recitales de poesía declamando a Lorca o Bécquer. Sin embargo, cuando menciona esos años grises en los que solo pensaba en hacerse daño leyó la obra completa de Alejandra Pizarnik, sus diarios, poemas, poesía en prosa, novelas cortas y vio todos los documentales. Alejandra le dio nombre a su herida. No se sabe algunos poemas, pero de vez en cuando comenta en voz alta: “Las palabras no hacen el amor, hacen la ausencia”, o “¿si nos anticipamos de sonrisa en sonrisa hasta la última esperanza?”. Tiene todos sus libros en un lugar especial de nuestra biblioteca y a veces los abre y relee sus poemas favoritos, pero no se siente capaz de volver a leer a Pizarnik con detenimiento, dice que sus letras la retornan a oscuridades que no quiere volver a vivir.

Odiaba que Diomedes Díaz se hubiese muerto dos días antes de navidad, decía que no había algo tan detestable como el vallenato, banda sonora de la cultura paraca y feminicida colombiana. Su visión cambió totalmente cuando trabajó como docente en zona rural de Montería. Sus estudiantes no recordaban el día de la independencia, pero sí había un sentimiento colectivo todos los 26 de mayo; en ese entonces era profesora de español y literatura; sentía que cuando explicaba las figuras literarias con versos de los poetas del siglo de oro los adolescentes la miraban como si hablara en chino.

Un día les leyó en voz alta fragmentos de “La eterna parranda de Diomedes” y allí Salcedo Ramos enuncia algunas canciones, como Amarte más no pude. Ese día, los estudiantes interrumpieron su lectura y le dijeron: “espere profe” y a continuación comenzaron a corear la canción. Ella se deslumbró y entonces los chicos aprendieron a identificar símiles, metáforas e hipérboles en canciones como: el cóndor herido, sin medir distancias, que será mi vida sin ti, señora, entre muchas otras que ella aprendió a amar.  

A veces la escucho cantando en voz alta temas de Rafael Orozco y Patricia Teherán y cuando lo hace la garganta le sabe a ron. Me pide que le alcance un trago y entre canción y canción discutimos la poesía camuflada en los versos de los juglares vallenatos. Ahora está obsesionada con las voces femeninas en este género y se la pasa viendo en vivos de Martina La Peligrosa cantando vallenato y comentando sus letras.

Sin saberlo Jorge Drexler ha sido su terapeuta. Amelia y la tristeza tienen una relación muy cercana, pues en varias ocasiones cuando llego del trabajo y escucho el agua caer de la ducha armonizada con alguna canción de él, sé que no se siente bien. 

“Tu corazón va a sanar, va a sanar y va a volver a quebrarse mientras le toque pulsar”, se repite como mantra cuando siente que el mundo se le viene encima. Esas veces interrumpo su ritual y decido acompañarla.  No me dice nada, me mira con los ojos hinchados de tanto llorar, se sienta en mi regazo. La abrazo mientras escuchamos a Drexler en silencio, esperando que la señora tristeza decida irse.

Hay una relación directamente proporcional entre los géneros musicales que escucha y sus gustos etílicos. Recientemente vimos el documental sobre la vida de Chavela Vargas en Netflix, yo no sabía el significado de Chavela en su vida. Esa noche además de ver un par de lagrimones que resbalaron por sus mejillas, me contó de sus días en México. De su amor por el picante y de cómo el performance de Chavela entonando cada canción son prácticamente un hecho poético. Es como si cualquier bolero o ranchera interpretada con esa voz desgarradora además de darle unas ganas tremendas de beber tequila, le revuelven las nostalgias acumuladas en su alma.

El 23 de julio de este año inesperadamente Taylor Swift anunció su octavo álbum de estudio: Folklore. Ese día mientras cada uno daba clases virtualmente la vi revisando Instagram cada rato, comentando con sus amigas y saltando por los títulos de las canciones. Amelia ama a Taylor Swift desde que escuchó Crazier en la película de Hannah Montana, desde ahí la ha seguido por años y con dos de sus amigas tienen un ritual que nunca han hecho presencialmente: se reúnen en la distancia y escuchan canción por canción, eligen sus favoritas las comentan y hacen teorías conspirativas sobre la vida de Taylor.

Se ha repetido varias veces el documental de Miss Americana y ambos coincidimos en que es una obra maestra. Esa noche le dije que me acostaría temprano que estaba cansado, ella me dio las buenas noches con un beso, buscó aguapanela caliente y se sentó en la sala esperando que fuese medianoche y el álbum estuviera disponible en todas las plataformas. Sus amigas ya estaban conectadas, una desde Taiwán y la otra desde Manizales.

Me dio mucha curiosidad y aunque ya había tenido mi primera experiencia distante con Lover el año anterior, este año quise integrarme a pesar de que me sintiera muy ajeno. A la media hora de haberme despedido, regresé y me senté con ella en el sofá y vimos el vídeoclip de cardigang. Cuando escuchamos la frase: “Peter losing Wendy”, nos miramos con los ojos aguados y sonreímos, al poco tiempo junto con Ferna y Karen vía Skype nos desvelamos comentando cada canción, intuyendo las historias, saboreando los ritmos. Nos desvelamos elogiando la genialidad de Taylor, el concepto del álbum, lo asombrosamente diferente al resto de sus discos y seleccionamos nuestras favoritas a eso de las dos de la mañana que terminó el ritual.  Para Amelia sus favoritas son This is me trying y August. La primera porque así se ha sentido todo este encierro: intentándolo, luchando con que sus propios demonios no la absorban y August por el significado especial de agosto en su vida.

Si hay algo que pueda definir a Amelia Gaitán en treinta y seis segundos es el discurso de Jo March, en la versión de  Little Women de Greta Gerwing: “es que siento que las mujeres tienen mente y tienen alma al igual que corazón.  Tienen ambición y tienen talento, así como belleza; y ya me harté de que muchos digan que el amor es lo único para lo que servimos ¡ya me harté de eso! Pero también me siento muy sola”.

Este monólogo la atravesó por completo y resumió su angustia de años: el amor. Esa contradicción y anhelo de que el amor es el fin último y pleno de su vida, cuando hay mucho más. Esta preocupación la atraviesan los poemas que escribe, es una especie de trascendencia filosófica transversalizada en su quehacer, en las canciones que le gustan y las series que ve, porque se contrapone con la soledad, esa que la inunda cuando la depresión la visita.

Happy Birthday Yui Ishikawa (May 30)

A happy 30th birthday to the wonderful voice actress! She recently left Sunaoka Creative Artist Agency. Ishikawa joined the affiliated Himawari Theatre Group for children more than 23 years ago. She explained, "It's because I was in the same place for so long that I want to try to see the world one step outside." [Source]
