A/N: Happy Birthday, Inola 💙🥰
~~~~~~~~~
You hardly recognized your sister.
Aha'ri, so brave and fierce, whittled down into a small, scared child, just like you, only this time... it left her physically scarred.
Mercer's shot had left the young Na'vi girl in and out of consciousness, the medics barely able to keep her stable. It was bad enough the TAP personnel didn't appear to care about the children's needs, but their welfare? It was hardly even on the list. No one in the med bay was prepared to treat a Na'vi child with a bullet wound in her back. Sure, they had the means to treat a human, no problem, but a Na'vi? Who's body didn't react to the same medicine and treatment a human's would? You would think, that if TAP were going to house Na'vi children as Alma was teaching, they would be better prepared for it.
There will be a time when, once you get older, you will come to accept that no one in TAP ever cared enough to learn or do better. But for now, you're scared, innocent, and confused. Why was no one bandaging Aha'ri right away? Why are they poking and prodding at her wound and wondering out loud about how a bullet affects the Na'vi body?
You hardly slept. Barely anyone did. Ri'nela managed to get Teylan to shut his eyes for a few hours, but the occasional twitch in his tail told everyone he never truly slept.
Aha'ri was in and out of surgeries for a week before she finally turned a corner. Alma informed you and the other children of this with a quiet voice, explaining that Aha'ri would have a scar, but she would live.
Alma's version of "living" was breathing and moving around. But to a Na'vi, the way Aha'ri looked when she returned to school, that wasn't living. From then on, she was simply surviving.
She was a shell, her eyes almost always bearing a one-thousand-yard stare, empty of any warm emotions. She didn't sing or hum, and never mentioned your mother when you tried to prompt her in an attempt to see a small spark of life in her once more. Nothing.
The scar was on her back. A round, small bullet-shaped wound that made her wince every time she moved her left arm while it was still healing. If any personnel dropped the temperature of the children's room, she would whine and softly cry to herself from how badly the muscles in her back and arm would spasm and ache. Now, whenever she sees someone with a gun, even if it were strapped to their hip, Aha'ri would flinch and curl in on herself.
Mercer had made his warning loud and clear. Next time, she would not be so lucky.
It took months for her to fully heal physically, but once she did... something subtly shifted in her eyes. A small, tiny spark of warmth returned, and you hardly had time to feel relieved to have a small part of your sister back, let alone question it. You were so relieved, in fact, you missed the small bit of determination that returned to Aha'ri's spirit.
Neither you nor Teylan was prepared for the abrupt wakening in the middle of the night, months after Mercer had shot Aha'ri.
"Come," Aha'ri spoke softly, even gracing you with a small, familiar smile, "We're leaving."
"What...?" You questioned while rubbing your eyes, your brain not entirely caught up with your surroundings.
"B-B-But we can't!" Teylan whimpers from his bed, where Ri'nela quietly soothes him. "I-I-If... if the same thing happens again-!"
"It won't," Ri'nela shushes with an encouraging smile, "There is another way out of here, Teylan."
"It is time to go home," Nor spoke sternly, more confident than ever. His own personality had shifted since Aha'ri's injury.
The three older Na'vi children led you and Teylan up into the TAP facility's vents, hands gripping pillowcases full of carefully collected supplies from the months they had spent planning a more thorough escape. Ri'nela had expressed patience over the months while Nor was anxious for Aha'ri to heal so they could get a move on. Ri'nela would take a little bit of food here and there during meal times, stowing that and any little bit of supplies up in the vent above her bed to preserve until the moment was right. If any human at the facility noticed they were missing a small bandage here and a compass there, they always chalked it up to misplacement, none the wiser.
Nor managed to distract his eagerness by keeping a close watch on the guards, something that Harding had unintentionally taught him between lessons where she'd force him to hold a gun. Timing their patrols and shifts, Nor eventually saw a small window of time when hardly anyone would be walking by the children's rooms at night, a small flaw that Harding would be furious to whoever designed the patrol schedule, which made Nor internally smug. He made sure the same window of time happened for a full week before sharing this small information with Ri'nela and Aha'ri, vowing to himself to be more thorough so the last escape attempt wouldn't repeat itself.
As for Aha'ri, she dutifully played her role to perfection. Yes, her traumatic experience and her injury had changed her, but she exaggerated it a little more than she had originally felt. Sure, she would spend years later flinching at the sound of a gunshot, but her will to survive overpowered any fear she had gained after Mercer had shot her. She wanted him to believe he had won, so she kept her head down, her eyes drifting off to stare at the walls as if no one else was in the room. She had let Mercer believe he had broken her, despite his appalling actions further strengthening her.
The vents were large enough for the children to walk through, only having to bow their heads slightly to fit. There were some tight spots where they would have to carefully and quietly crouch down and crawl, hardly breathing if they passed over a vent and noticed humans walking beneath them. Otherwise, part of their natural Na'vi instincts kicked in, their tails keeping them balanced while their feet kept them quiet, sharp ears twitching at any unknown sound.
Finally, Nor stopped and held out a hand to the rest who traveled behind him, his voice barely above a whisper, "Teylan."
The youngest Na'vi child slowly crawled over to the other boy's side, peering down through a vent to follow Nor's gaze. Beneath them was a hallway, and attached to a wall was a control panel that was obviously meant for the double doors beside it. Upon observing the doors, Teylan recognized it to be the entrance to the mess hall.
"The next patrol meant to pass our rooms will come from there," Nor explained quietly, "Can you lock the doors to buy us some more time?"
Teylan lowered his ears, and his big eyes widened with fear. "I can't do that! We'll be caught!"
"Shh!" Nor hissed, small fangs bared, "We'll be caught if you do not keep your voice down. Can. You. Do. It."
"Y-Yes, I can do it, but not from up here."
"If you went down?"
"I-I-I-I can't go down there... they'll see me."
"I have watched these boring Sky People walk these exact same hallways for days. I promise they will not even be around to see you," Nor snarled, beginning to grow impatient, "Not unless you continue to delay."
"I will go with you, Teylan," Aha'ri's hand gently settles on Teylan's shoulders.
Nor's ears stick straight up in alarm, and his eyes fix on Aha'ri, crouched behind Teylan. "No. I will go with him. Keep a watch on us from above."
The boys cautiously, so very gingerly, remove the vent cover and pass it over to the girls before quietly jumping down, their feet meeting the cold floor of the hallway. Their ears move wildly in search of any sound in either direction as they sneak over to the control panel. Once at the screen, Teylan is quick at work, starting to relax once in his element, efficiently locking the doors to the mess hall before slinking back around until the open vent is just above his head. Nor is close behind him and helps lift Teylan back up into the vent before closely following suit with one big leap and Ri'nela swiftly closes the vent once more.
With one more obstacle out of the way, the kids begin to get a little eager, the taste of freedom just at the tip of their tongues. Pressing forward through the vents with less quiet steps, the Sarentu children can feel their hearts racing in their chests and hear them pounding in their ears. Even after buying themselves a little bit of time, they didn't want to take any chances in case Mercer got the drop on them once more.
There's a large, sealed-tight door within the vents, separating the oxygen within the facility from the carbon dioxide and other lethal elements in the outside world the children were told about in Alma's lessons. Teylan makes quick work of this door as well, and by this point, Nor shouts at everyone to break into a run in this final leg of their race. The exit, a large vent that leads out into the world of Pandora, is close at hand and looms over all of their heads. Once right at the foot of it, Nor eagerly takes a screwdriver out from Ri'nela's pillowcase and begins to unscrew all the corners of the large vent.
Aha'ri's grip on your hand momentarily slips. As she whips her head back around in a panic, she finds herself staring at wide, tear-filled eyes. You tug and pull on her hand desperately, stepping back down the way you came, "Wait! We forgot sa'nu's songcord!"
Your older sister relents for a moment, the horrible reminder that Mercer kept your mother's songcord as a trophy around his wrist still hung heavily in her heart. With as much sorrow as she could afford, she gently grasped both of your little shoulders in her hands, making you look her dead in the eyes, "We can not go back for it. We have to go."
"But we will forget her--"
"No, never," she said firmly, and with a determination you had not seen in her eyes in a very long time, "We never will forget, so long as we have the song she sang to us. We may not remember the words, but we can still sing the songs of our people."
"I got it!" Nor happily exclaims, disbelief in his words as the vent comes free and falls outside, the clatter it makes drowned out by the rush of noises that fills the children's ears.
Bright light surrounds all of you, forcing you to put your hands in front of your eyes before they can adjust. Blinking, you lower your hand and you're met with a vast, enormous jungle, heavily encompassed in vegetation and wildlife. The colors... nothing like you have ever seen before, taking your breath away and distracting you even as Aha'ri takes hold of your hand once more. You finally tear your gaze away from what awaits you, meeting your sister's eyes as she smiles softly.
"Come. Our home is waiting for us."
Whatever you find in her gaze brings a newly found bravery in your chest. You take a deep breath and firmly nod with a small pout on your little face. Together, and with your friends, you and Aha'ri jump out of the vent and sprint as quickly as possible into the world of Pandora, the leaves and branches of the trees stretching out when the wind picks up as if the Great Mother was opening her arms out to you in relief that you are home once more.
Hii can u write a mama Kataru fic? Lets say she survives the rda attack on her clan and a nomad clan takes her in and she goes to live with them. She thinks her kids are dead and doesnt know the rda took them. So after years of being with this clan they return to the area and rumors of a human resistance that has taken in some sarentu kids reach their ears and she goes to see if its true. And there she reunites with her daughter.
Thanks in advance!
helloooooooooooo~!! Oh mah goooooooosh!! This I can see happen in so many directions! And I chose a good path for this one, enjoy~!
----------------------
Silpey
“Aha’ri, I understand you are upset. But you have to face the fact that your mother left you” Mercer says, trying to sound brave but fear hinted in his voice. Merely a child yet standing taller was ever so brave Aha’ri. Grabbing his wrist tightly, hate and disbelief in her eyes.
“LIAR!” she accuses.
Her fellow na’vi gasping. That word did not exist in their old forgotten language.
Aha’ri remembers. She was young at that time. Gaps in her memories but one thing was certain. Her mother loved her, she loves aha’ari and her younger sister silpey. Their mother’s song chord was their treasure, proof of her love.
Mercer, Cortez, everyone spewed stupid doubts and manipulation in their minds. Aha’ri remained stubborn, still sticking to her belief.
Sad that she never got to see how true she was.
“Everyone! We have returned!”
Loud cheers, reunions, hugs, cries of joy, relief all around. The two branches of the traveling Zeswa clan have united once again. The zakru they follow have joined those who lay already.
Everyone joins, older members meeting young newborns, long time friends catching up, family recalling many good times. Everyone had someone.
But Kataru had no one.
Kataru lives with the zeswa but she is sarentu.
Karatu of the Sarentu has no one to reunite. No one to call family, no one to call her own.
The sarentu are no more. None have survived the massacre. The once beloved clan, friends to all, story tellers, artisans, musicians, gone. When word spread the ending of the Sarentu, all of Pandora grieved. Many say it was the Yava that took their lives, that a soulless tsahik spread her poison down their throats, or that natural disasters took them all.
There is only one truth.
A truth that is still left with many questions.
And just as there is one truth, there is also one sarentu left. That is what she believes, the last of her clan, her people.
Kataru, the remaining living Sarentu. Her mark on her cheek to prove it.
For years kataru has remained hidden among a nomad clan. Keeping herself safe from the sky demons, as well as the hope to find her children who were tragically taken from her. Her precious children, her darling daughters.
Aha’ri and silpey.
Aha’ri was merely 5 and silpey was still a baby barely forming sentences. How did it go wrong? Where did it go wrong?
For years Kataru was haunted by so many questions, none that she could find the answer to.
“Kataru '' Minang, the Tsahik of the Zeswa clan, calls the na’vi in question.
Kataru greets the leader, both acknowledging each other. “How may I assist you Tsahik?” she asks softly. A few minutes ago kataru was summoned to see Minang in the leader’s hut. She prefers to hide in the background, not gather much attention to herself. So this was a surprise.
Minang smiles kindly to kataru, placing her hand on the Sarentu’s shoulder.
“I bring the more wondrous information for you” Minang says. Her smile grew by the second. Curiosity and anticipation grew within katari. Tilting her head to the side, “how so?” Kataru asks.
“My sister has gone to visit the human resistance, their morals and beliefs align with ours. But kataru, there at their base, there is a group of na’vi that you would love to meet”
Kataru shakes her head, confusion taking over.
“Kataru, you are not alone. There are Sarentu na’vi in the resistance. They survived the massacre”
Never had kataru fled as fast as she could. Fast she went, beyond the land, beyond what the wind can go. Faster than pali. It was like she summoned great speed to get there by foot. It didn't matter what lands she had to cross, what mountains to climb. Kataru would do it. She would run halfway around the world if she had to.
The moment Minang told her about the surviving sarentu’s, nothing else mattered. She needed to see them, feel their hands, look at their marks. What little dwindling hope she had all these years, it grew. Fast.
As kataru runs, she sees flashes of her past. Her clan, her people. Their traditions, her friends, her family, her children.
All of them.
Who survived? How did they hide all this time?
So when every step she took, every sharp edge that pokes her, every scrap or scratch on her, kataru welcomes these slight pains. It tells her, awakens her, that all of this is real. It is not a dream. Not like her false dreams that gave her false hopes. No, this is real, and the sooner she arrives at the base, the sooner this hope will bloom bigger.
“Kataru? Wait slow down-”
“I cannot wait any longer!”
While she should respect the Olo’ykte of the clan that took her in, kataru’s anticipation and impatience took over her judgment. Nesim understood, holding her still as kataru catches her breath. Nesim was amazed how fast she ran, from base to the Zeswa grounds was very grand.
To not sound so rustic, nesim was kind enough to hand her a pouch of water to kataru. The sarentu drank it gratefully.
“Is she the other Sarentu you spoke of?”
A deep male voice was heard behind kataru, turning around and she saw a fit male na’vi. Could be her state of mind, or it could be something else, but looking at the unknown male na’vi, more specifically, his tattoos, they seem oddly familiar. Perhaps from another clan. One she can't recall at the moment.
“Yes, this is kataru. The only sarentu we have known that survived the massacre” Nesim replies.
“I am sol’ek, not Sarentu but from another clan completely” Sol’ek greets her with the respectful “I see you” greeting. Kataru doing the same.
“Is it true…? Are there sarentu here?” kataru asks, little doubt hinting in her voice.
Sol’ek smiles a bit, “Yes, come, I will lead you to them. They will be very happy to see you”
Every step felt like a mile to kataru.
Time slowed, her vision becoming blurry and her heart beating in her head.
Sol’ek lead her around the base and into a small cave, a bonfire was seen. She can hear laughter, unfamiliar voices, too human like their tones. As she gets closer, she can see 3 na’vi all sitting down around the bonfire.
Sol’ek steps aside, gesturing to her to go further. “Go, they await for you” he says, and leaves to give them privacy.
This was it, this was what she was waiting for 32 years.
Carefully taking her steps, kataru goes deeper, letting the sounds of her footsteps notify the na’vi. One of them did, a young na’vi with short hair, nervous looking while wearing human clothing. Timid he seems, pointing at kataru.
“Guys….” he tells the others.
Everyone turns to look at kataru.
Time froze.
They all look so young.
Kataru carefully analyzes their faces. They bear the Sarentu mark.
A young female na’vi stands up. Fear and hope in her eyes and voice, “Are you…Sarentu…?” she asks.
Tears leave kataru’s face, nodding “I am” she answers.
Soon enough, she was swarmed by the young na’vi, all hugging tightly. More tears were released, cries of sorrow, happiness, relief, everything. Kataru doesn't know if the cries she hears are of her own, or of the others. She traces their marks, the very thing that identifies them as sarentu.
Never had kataru felt more grateful for Eywa. Her prayers were heard.
“Another sarentu…..!! I can't believe it!” one of the young male sarentu says inbetween his sobs.
“We thought we were truly alone,” the young female says. Kataru understands how they feel. She understands their pain.
After what felt like hours, they all calmed down. Sniffles, hiccups, and few tears still there, but all rapid emotions have since withered down.
“Tell me your names, my name is kataru” she introduces herself.
Smiles, each one does the same.
“I am nor” the oldest male says.
“I am Ri’nela” the female points at herself.
The one with the cap on his head looks down, very nervous, “im…Im teylan” he whispers.
Yes, their faces seem more reconizable now with their names.
“I remember….you were all babes…Ri’nela..you. You look so much like your mother, you even kept the beads” kataru comments. Seeing Ri’nela’s face, was like a copy of her fallen mother.
“I do?” Ri’nela asks. Kataru nods.
“You look so beautiful, I know your mother would have been so proud of you” she goes on.
Turning, she looks at nor, “and you. I remember your parents would travel between our clans borders to the Kami’tire grounds for trading. You would always come back with some form of scratches”
Nor blushes but smiles shyly. “I remember vaguely. I remember my father would take me all the time”
And finally, kataru looks at teylan.
She cant help but feel sadness for him. He was the youngest among the three. Was a baby when that night happened.
“Your parents loved you teylan. I remember….when you were born, your father howled loud and mighty. First born, he was proud of you. Your mother would sing you of our peoples prayers to Eywa. You were very much, "Kataru told him. Her voice is soft and soothing.
Teylan couldn't form words, so he let his actions do the talking. He hugged kataru tightly, afraid to think this was a dream. Since his earliest memory, Teylan was told his people abandoned him, that he wasn't loved. So to hear from another Sarentu, one who spent time out in Pandora, it made him feel things that he never thought he would feel. Genuine love.
While Kataru is very grateful to see more Sarentu, happy to know where they were, there was still one thing left lingering in her mind.
Looking at the three Sarentus, she spoke her more dreading, anticipating question.
“Do….have any of you known of my children? Their names are Aha’ri and Silpey”
Dread.
Dread, despair, sadness, guilt, regret, rage.
It was like relieving that terrible night.
Aha’ri.
Her bright, clever, wonderful little girl was dead. At the hands of a sky demon.
Died all because she wanted to go home. She never gave up on the belief that her mother loved her.
Aha’ri was right.
Kataru loved her so much it almost hurt.
Aha’ri loved music, loved to dance, loved to tell stories, loved to be all that she was. A sarentu. Like the past Sarentu Olo’eyktan, aha’ri was brave, Fierce, and protective of others. Especially her young sibling.
What Kataru would do to see aha’ri alive. To see her with the other surviving sarentu. To see her older, wiser, stronger, and free. Yet the cruel, heartless sky demon called “Mercer” took her life. Her chance. Her future.
Kataru was never one to hate. Hate was strong, hate was something she viewed negatively. May Eywa forgive her. For now she hates, she hates this mercer demon. To kill a na’vi was evil, but to kill a child? Hate was all she felt for the demon who took everything from her.
Taking her home, her clan, her children.
Yet there is still hope.
Kataru had lost one child, but there is another she so desperately wants to see. Her baby, Silpey.
From what the others have said, Silpey is traveling to neighboring clans to learn how to be a warrior. How to fight. Sarentu’s were never warriors to begin with. Choosing peace over violence. To balance things over keeping things uneven.
Tonight she returns.
And kataru waits for her.
The others leave the cave to give her privacy. Lighting the bonfire again, she sits patiently. Humming at her old tune. She doesn't have her song chord anymore, but she remembers how it was sung. Yes, kataru remembers her song so well. Singing loud, letting the stone cave walls echo her voice.
Kataru sings her heart out, feeling happy, yet sad. Too lost in her song, she failed to hear footsteps coming towards her. A voice interrupts her song.
“Sa’nu?”
Okie, I put my all in this one. Hope you all like it! Until next time! See ya!
“Maybe it’s the lighting.”
This was a request!
Eetu x Sarentu! Reader
Avatar: Frontier’s of Pandora
No use of Y/N. Gender neutral reader. No warnings. Straight fluff. Maybe a warning for my writing I feel like it’s gotten worse because of the break, oops.
Translations:
Oare (o.ˈa.ɾɛ ) - Moon
Tsawke (ˈ͡tsaw.kɛ) - Sun
Nga’apxa skxawng - you big moron
flrr - Gentle
skxawng - Moron
˗ˏˋ જ⁀➴ ˎˊ˗ So that’s what it’s called.
It was noon, the sun was gently kissing your cheeks as you sat perched on the Aranahe hometree where the Ikran landed and took off. Your legs swinging back and forth while mindlessly restringing your bow. The morning was rather uneventful, and you figured you’d make sure your bow was in proper shape to keep yourself from pure boredom. So’lek had nothing for you to fetch, too busy with the rosters you’d given him, and everyone else that usually needed something insisted there was nothing to do today.
It drove you mad, staying in one place for too long. You felt the buzzing in your bones, urging you to do something, anything. Rest was probably beneficial for you, your health, but it felt so much better being out there. Connecting with the world you were shut out from. Perhaps that’s what it is— that feeling in your bones. It’s that urge to discover all you can, to reclaim your life as your own. You sigh, and secure the bow string tightly, tugging on it to make sure it wouldn’t snap off when you used it. The chatter of the other na’vi has turned into a soft drone in the background as you stare at the intricately carved wood. Deep brown, carvings from your own hand but as well as other Na’vi.
The top half of the carvings were your own and your siblings’s. I the middle around the grip was Eetu’s own designs, mimicking the kinglor’s wings. That turned into designs So’lek and others had contributed. Eetu’s was arguably the largest out of everyone else’s you realize, as you run your fingers down the careful path in the wood. You remember how proud of himself he looked when he finished.
༘⋆༄.°⋆
It was late, and the night creatures forest were coming alive. Bioluminescent plants gently glowed blue and purple around you and Eetu. This was routine at this point, meeting at night to enjoy the gentleness it offered. Stars twinkled high above, and the moons shined brightly, the moonlight gently caressing Eetu’s figure. He sits beside you, your bow held in one hand while the other holds his knife, carefully scratching into the wood. He’d been at it for a while now, a small smile on his lips.
“Are you done yet?” You ask him, shuffling closer to get a look at the carvings. He hums in response, brushing some wood shavings off of the bow with his thumb.
“Almost. Perfection takes time, Oare.” He playfully reprimands you, a crooked smile on his lips as he gently leaned in to you, making the two of you shoulder to shoulder now. The moon, he calls you. It was for some sappy reason, saying you guide him on his hunts much like the moon’s rays does— that you’re just as radiant as it. He always says such compliments so playfully you just roll your eyes now. In retaliation you called him Tsawke, but he liked it way too much.
When he finished the carving he handed it to you proudly, his smile a bit wider, eyes twinkling. “Take a look. Tell me how amazing it is.” Eetu said, clearly proud of his work as he gently handed the bow to you.
You hum thoughtfully as you take extra time appraising the careful design, making sure to take longer than it should for dramatic effect before finally saying, “It’s pretty good.”
Eetu’s smile could split his face in half as he laughed, wrapping his arm around your shoulders and holding you close as he looked at the carvings as well. “I thought so too.”
༘⋆༄.°⋆
Eetu walks through the hometree, humming to himself, tail swinging side to side as he stops at the landing pad. He was there to see if the trader, Kukulope, had visited and beared new gifts, and instead found you. You were fidgeting with your bow, your back facing him as your tail flicked slightly, a tell tale sign that you were lost in thought. Or bored. Both were possible. He took a moment, but only just. His home was art, this he knew, and yet seeing you against it tied it together. He cleared his throat, and approached.
Eetu silently crept behind you, grinning as he knelt down and took you by the shoulders, pushing you only slightly. He only wanted to startle you, not actually push you off, so he held onto you tightly as he said “You must be careful sitting on edges, Sarentu!”
You yelped in surprise at the sudden movement, and Eetu wrapped his arm around your middle as you jumped forward slightly. You held onto him instinctively, and scold him as you turn to get a look at him, “Eetu! Nga’apxa skxawng!” You hiss. Eetu laughs, tightening his arm around you as he pulls you away from the edge slightly, just in case.
“Eaaasy.” He chuckled at your firey words, letting go of you once you are steady, pulling away and putting his arms up in faux surrender. Your eyes narrow, your ear flicks in irritation, an expression he has become very familiar with. He is glad your anger never lasts too long, after all he much preferred your smile over a frown. And then he paused. What a strange thought.
“I just wanted to liven you up a bit.” Eetu explained playfully, pushing away his thoughts and sitting himself down as you turn your body to face him, shaking your head slightly. “You looked like you could’ve died of boredom.” He adds, stretching his arms above his head.
“I could die from you sneaking up on me at dangerous heights.” You retort, placing your bow across your lap and absentmindedly ran your fingers over the carvings once more. Eetu rolled his eyes with a grin, one he is almost never seen without.
“Please. I had ahold of you, falling is the least of your worries when you are with me.” Eetu tells you with a wink. You scoff at him and smack him with the end of your tail, but he catches the subtle curve of your lips.
There it is.
“What do you want?” You ask him, lifting your eyes to meet his. Eetu shrugs slightly, resting his hands in his lap as he watches you. One of his quirks was when eye contact was made, he was almost never the one to break it. So he simply stared back.
“I was going to do some trading, have a meal, mend my gear. Perhaps go out and hunt after.” Eetu says as you look away, and he grins as if he’s won some staring contest. But perhaps it is because he gets a warm feeling within his chest when he finds you somewhat embarrassed to keep the eye contact for longer than a few words. “Would you come with me? We have not hunted together in a while. I have not been as successful as I usually am with my Oare gone.” That name rolls off of his tongue so sweetly it almost surprises him.
You simply smile, shaking your head again. “You and your honeyed words, Eetu. I see you only use me for my hunting skills.” You tease him now, and a laugh resonates through his chest as he reaches out, patting your knee. Physical touch was so casual for him, so normal between the two of you now. It was as if he was being pulled to you with a magnet.
“I miss your company, Sarentu. Is that what you wished to hear?” Eetu teases back, boyish smile on his lips as he watches you. “You could have just asked.” He tells you, dragging out the words as he gently pushes your shoulder.
You wave his hand away, clicking your tongue to the roof of your mouth, “Well now I won’t come with you.” You state, and he gasps dramatically.
“What? Flrr Oare!” Eetu practically hangs off of you as you push him away. Your laughter betrays you, though, and the glitter in your eyes that always seem to happen when you laugh. Like your eyes are made of starlight. Huh.
༘⋆༄.°⋆
Come evening, of course you went hunting with him. He was grateful for it, hunting alone felt so strange now. Eetu used to hunt by himself all the time, but ever since you came along he simply couldn’t go on as he used to. Well he could, but it didn’t feel quite right. Perhaps it was because he was so used to being alone, and you came along and got him hooked on another’s company. Sometimes you truly did seem to make the hunt better, and if not in bounty then in company.
Hunting turned into long conversations while perched on the branch of a tree, sometimes only noticing when there was game when you scared it off. Nonetheless, he enjoyed it. Eetu had just shot down a Hexapede, collecting materials and paying his respects. When he looks up, expecting to find you nearby, he is greeted by nothing. Silence. He raises a brow at this, securing his pack on his waist and his bow across his chest. He calls out your name and… nothing.
Well, almost nothing. He hears you giggle, and he realizes you’ve started one of your games again.
You were hiding, not too far away as to not lose him, but just far enough he would have to take a moment to look for you. You placed your hand over your mouth, crouched behind a tree and hidden by some thick underbrush and overgrown roots. A silly hiding spot, but this was only to have some laughs, not last all evening. Being hidden for too long always ruins the fun anyway.
His footsteps are soft, trained for so long to both stay undetected by prey and predator alike. He used it for other things, primarily to scare you out of your skin. You try to breathe slow, quiet, closing your eyes as if that would keep you concealed. You can’t see him, he can’t see you, right?
Eetu considered you easy to find. Not because you were bad at hiding your tracks, or too loud, but simply because he just seemed to know where you were. Well.. perhaps the sound of a soft swishing from your tail gave it away as well. You always got so excited, and you didn’t seem to quite get the hang of keeping it hidden. It was endearing, and Eetu hoped it wouldn’t change.
You open your eyes, no longer hearing his gentle padding against the forest floor. You carefully shift, peeking around the tree, and then you hear a twig break. You whip around and find Eetu mid step, frozen. He hadn’t expected the twig to be there, it seems. He opens his mouth, starting to say something, but you grin widely and push yourself off of the trunk for momentum and dart off. It was just hide and seek, but it was decided he would have to work on winning this time.
“Come on!” He shouts after you. Eetu sounds disappointed, but the airy chuckle beneath his words gives his joy away. “I found you fair and square!” He says as he gives chase, trying to avoid any roots that may attempt to foil his attempt at catching you.
“That’s too bad!” You shout back, turning sharply around some trees and avoiding getting smacked in the face by any low hanging branches. That would just be embarrassing.
This game lasts until you are breathless and grinning so wide that your cheeks ache. Eetu sees this and grins, watching your pace slow. He reaches out, calling your name, and he says it so sweetly you couldn’t help but look back. Eetu latches onto your arm, but both you and he failed to notice the root sticking up from the ground. It seems Eywa had her own plan for the two of you, for it trips you and you grab onto him, pulling him down to the ground with you. You squeal, and he shouts in surprise as he is yanked down into the dirt. And down a hill.
Eetu holds onto you for dear life, your laughter and his mingling together into a sound that could only be called pure joy.
“Eetu!!!” You say accusingly, though not sounding particularly upset at all as you tumble down with him. Infact the way you call for him makes his heart soar in ways he’d never thought he could.
“This is your fault, Sarentu! You cannot put this on me!” Eetu scolds you playfully, as he tries to keep you from getting hurt.
“skxawng!” You retort with a crooked grin.
The two of you land at the end, finally, rolling to a stop. Side by side, face to face. You feel out of breath and yet can’t stop the laughter pouring out of your lips, holding onto his arms tightly. Dirt is smudged all over his face, as is yours. Both of you have grass, dirt, and small twigs in your hair from the tumble, and despite looking an absolute mess Eetu couldn’t help but think you were breath taking.
“Oh… Eywa…” you say breathlessly, and he chuckles, nodding in agreement as he tries to get the dirt off your cheek and only ends up smudging it further.
“She has it out for us.” He murmured jokingly, resting his hand against the crook of your neck. “… do I win?” Eetu asks, breaking out into a lopsided smile.
“Eetu! Are you kidding me!” You laugh at him, hitting his shoulder lightly and shaking your head.
The way you say his name makes his heart melt, though he finds that anything you do could reduce him to nothing but a smile and some idiotic jokes. The way you hold onto him tightly, simply laying there with him in the dirt, trying to catch your breath is stunning to him. Suddenly he realizes this has a name— the reason why he notices these things about you. The way the corners of your eyes crinkles, you lean over slightly when you laugh, your ears flick and your lips curve.
Oh, he was in love with you.
That’s what it was called when he missed you. When he found himself finding you in everything around him. The songs sung of courage and grace, the flowers he finds by the water, the colors he finds that remind him of your Ikran, the soothing feeling of the night breeze kissing his skin after a long day. It was all you. It always was. You were strong and courageous, you were as resilient as the flowers and more breathtaking, you were the balm that eased his exhaustion when you offer to look after him.
You were love.
And how was it that he was just seeing it now?
“You’ve got something on your face.” You tell him, finally calmed down from your laughing fit. Your thumb gently returns the favor he’d given you and smudged the mud on his face even more, grinning a little wider.
“Is it my beauty?” Eetu replies. He speaks softer than he expected, but he supposed that would suffice, and leans his forehead against yours ever so gently.
“Mm.” You hum thoughtfully, looking at him with playfully narrowed eyes. “Perhaps. Maybe it’s the lighting.” You whisper.
And Eetu chuckled softly, “Maybe.” He whispered back.
Eventually, he stands up, pulling you up along with him and making sure you were uninjured.
“Come on. Let’s clean up, then head back.” Eetu says as he steadies you, hands on your sides making sure that other than dirt and a few tiny scabs you were alright.
You pause for a while, but speak up as his eyes flick towards yours once more. “Dinner together?” You ask.
He smiles warmly now, different from his cocky lopsided grins and silly smiles. A soft smile, sweet even. “Of course.” Because of course he would like to have dinner with you. All fourteen of pandoras moons would have to explode for him to even think about not eating dinner with you.
Is it ok, if I request a Neteyam X Sarentu!Reader smut with breeding kink? The reader is the player character in Avatar Frontiers Of Pandora if you’re wondering.
Hello Anon!
Of course it's okay! Thank you for the request. I am facing a writing block right now, so your message is tantamount to reaching out to me to get out of it.
I am already writing, albeit with difficulty, because I am trying to write a short story full of action and strong emotions to make even a part of the AFoP game experience. There is rebirth, discovery, going back to the roots, mixed feelings, confusion, and so much more that I don't want to fall into banality. I do have a fairly well-articulated plot in mind that will develop into a chapter-long, intense story. I can tell you many things don't convince me I'm working on them, but there is one in particular that you can help me with. As usual, I am having trouble with names LOL
Here a sneak peek of the plot🤭
Twenty years after the dismantling of the TAP Program, a strange signal reaches Dr. Alma Cortez's computer. The cryosleep pods in which the four surviving Sarentu children had been put into hibernation had begun to function again. They had survived! This is the story of how a young Na'vi raised by humans, in search of her origins and revenge for her lost sister, will find her place alongside the comrade-in-arms who will restore her sense of belonging and love.
Imagine...
So'lek falling for one of the remaining Sarentu clan members:
Fandom: Avatar movie franchise/Avatar:Frontiers of Pandora Pairing: So'lek x Na'vi!Reader Warnings/Info: Possible Spoilers for A:FOP!
I might turn this into a oneshot if y'all enjoy this :)
So'lek has a mixture of feelings towards your sudden re-appearance at first.
On one hand, he feels a tiny spark of hope, that one day the Sky People will be defeated with your help, and Pandora will be safe once more. On the other hand, your existence does hurt him as it is another reminder that his clan did not survive the brutal colonisation, and that he is indeed the last one of his family.
Of course, he is also thrilled about your survival and the way the group has defied the twisted experiment the TAP tried to put you through; many Sarentu have stayed with his clan in the past, and he remembers looking forward listening to their stories of adventure around the fire pit when he was still a child.
Your pride, fierceness, and bravery is no surprise to him when he gets to know you after helping you escape the TAP.
So'lek quickly learns that you're more than eager to finally learn about your culture, and explore Pandora with his help.
You don't even shy away to pester him about teaching you the Na'vi ways, day and night, even when he tells you to be more patient, and to really digest what he teaches you.
But when So'lek finds himself becoming more intrigued, his first instict is to withdraw himself from you, to assure himself that he finds your lack of knowledge and humility irritating.
Your eagerness only makes you oblivious to his behavior though, and you simply don't let him pull away from you the way he wishes to. So, So'lek caves in and swiftly abandons his plan to stay away.
Soon enough, the battle-hardened warrior truly finds himself in a pickle when his feeling towards you grow even stronger, more intense and complicated.
He finds himself worrying about your safety and insists on exploring the Kinglor forest with you, even though he did not bother to do so before; he wanted you to experience Pandora by yourself at first after all, wanted you to make your own mistakes to become a better hunter and warrior, just as he had to when growing up.
It's a strange feeling to him; how his chest swells with pride whenever you achieve something new, whenever you share a new experience with him. He never believed he could feel and care this way about another individual.
So'lek is amazed to witness you becoming better at shooting a bow, speaking Na'vi, climbing and tracking more swiftly, and bonding with your ikran. He even finds himself jealous when Eetu tries to teach you and gives you advice.
Hunting and gathering supplies alongside you during nighttime becomes a regular activity, one he starts looking forward to, fondly at that. He's embarrassed to admit how he has memorized the glowing freckles on your face, the markings on your body, and the way your eyes light up whenever you discover something you haven't seen before.
One night, alone during his watch at the Resistance HQ, his breath hitches sharply and his heart starts pounding violently when a soft breeze carries your sweet, enticing scent to him randomly. The scent of temptation, one he can taste on his tongue when he inhales deep enough. That fateful moment leaves him trembling and wanting you in an utterly carnal way.
At that point, So'lek hadn't wasted a single thought on finding a mate or mating in general since fighting the Sky People and joining the Resistance. And how could he when everything revolves around survival and revenge nowadays?
To be continued...
So’lek x Sarentu! Reader
Sad little one shot cause I’m evil 😈 (ps if there’s typos don’t tell me about it x)
Staring out to the vast lands the sarentu hums softly to herself as she carves a new design into her bow, the pattern, supposed to look like her sarentu mark on her face but she frowns as it does not share the proportions she desires it to. Today was.. hard. She woke up to the aching feeling in her chest again, the feelings of being alone, having no one with her.
It felt absurd, she was constantly surrounded by loved ones, Ri’nela, Teylan, Priya, So’Lek, everyone at resistance and in the clans. Still she can’t get rid of the cold loneliness pulling at her heart. So she decided to hide in the forest away from resistance, away from the echoes of voices that haunt her.
“There you are.” A new voice speaks up making the Na’vi look up from her work, she seeks So’Lek exit the tree line tilting his head curiously at her. “Why are you hiding out here, Sarentu?” So’Lek asks as he tail sways side to side. She catches the cheeky glint in his eye and she knows he trying to rile her up.
“Im not hiding.” She says quickly. So’Lek chuckles taking the spot next to her campfire and leans closer to see what’s she carving. “I needed a break, that’s all.” The woman says digging her knife into the wood once more.
“A break?” So’Lek asks obviously needed more information than that. The Na’vi sighs in frustration as the sarentu mark on her bow only looks more funny the more she tries to fix her mistake. She sighs again this time glaring at the wood like it personally offended her.
‘Doesn’t have half the fight her sister had.’ That voice rings in her head. She clutches the knife tighter in her hand.
He’s wrong. You try and tell yourself. He’s dead. He doesn’t matter anymore.
Gently a hand reaches over and grabs at her hand holding the knife. She looks up almost forgetting for a moment So’Lek was there.
“What is wrong?” He asks in a soft voice, tilting his head in a way so she can’t escape his gaze.
She wants to lie, tell him that’s everything’s fine, that her chest doesn’t ache, that she doesn’t miss her sister and what little memory she has of her mother, that this stupid bow isn’t carving in the way she wants to carve—
“Ma yawntu.” So’Lek speaks making her thoughts stop spiraling. He takes the knife from her hands and places it on the ground, doing the same with the bow he grabs her hands again squeezing them. “Talk to me.” He speaks it so softly she finally breaks.
“I don’t feel like I belong.” She says in a helpless whisper, almost afraid of someone else hearing her deepest secret. “I feel like mercer ruined me….” She says feeling tears start to slide down her cheeks. She feels So’leks hands move to cup her cheeks wiping gently at the tears.
“Do not cry, sweet one.” So’Lek says. Easily pulling her into his embrace, he runs one hand down her spine as she sobs into his chest. “Mercer did not ruin anything.” So’Lek says his other hand cupping your face.
“You are perfect.” He says, so sure of himself, it almost makes you believe it. “Just as you are.” She sniffles looking down.
“I think you’re bias.” She says. She feels his hand move to tilt her chin up to look into his eyes again.
“Does not mean I’m wrong.” He says with ease. It felt weird to her, that loving her didn’t come at some price. That she could even be loved so freely and easily like breathing. She takes a breathe staring at him feeling that ache in her chest slowly simmer into nothing but warmth.
“Everyone I love gets hurt eventually.” She says.
“For you.. it’ll be worth it.” So’lek says leaning in and pressing a gentle kiss on her lips.
And maybe he would get hurt, maybe she would. But right now? In his arms she felt invincible.
First Meetings
So’lek x Sarentu!Reader
Hi everyone, this is my first fic ever for anything, this will be with AFAB reader in mind and will follow closely to the storyline of the game, so there will be spoilers. As I'm making this a series, each of these can be read as standalones. I hope you enjoy it ! Any Na’vi words or phrases I use, the English translation will be right next to it, if not then it will be at the end of the fic!
Word count: 2.6k
Masterlist - Next
“It's our world, it's lost…dying, because we didn't fight for it when we had a chance. Now we’re fighting for yours. We’re going to make a difference here. Together.” Priya passionately declared as she looked at you sincerely. Then her eyes widened as she remembered something, “Oh! So’lek was hoping to catch you too. Promised him I wouldn't forget. Tell him I didn’t forget !”
You giggled at how cute and bubbly Priya was, out of all the humans here at the resistance base, you liked her cheerful mannerisms a lot. You could tell that she would be a wonderful friend to have. You nodded and thanked her before you head over to find So’lek.
As you slowly walked through the base, your mind had shifted to the recent events that occurred while you and the others were at the TAP facility a day ago. The reason for the shift being a certain resistance Na’vi.
Oel ngati kameie. I see you.
Those were the first words you heard from him when you woke up after the cryo sleep. Even with all the chaos that was going on at the time, you couldn’t help but feel drawn to the Na’vi who seemed to be very straight-forward, blunt and yet understanding of the situation that you and the rest of the Sarentu had faced.
So’lek, he said, was his name (‘what a lovely name’ you had thought) when you asked him while on the run from the RDA, one of the last remaining survivors of his clan. Although, everytime you think of that memory, alone and running from the RDA, you remember the fear of being separated from everyone and wondering if they were safe. After what happened to Aha’ri, you couldn’t stand anyone else being hurt. But So’lek’s voice kept you moving forward and when one of the RDA in the AMP suit caught you, holding you down as that horrible man, Mercer looked down on you, comparing you to your sister, the only thing you wished and hoped for was that So’lek would keep the Sarentu trio safe, as you almost gave up, He came out of nowhere, shooting at the RDA to save you and told you to run.
When you finally got out of the TAP facility, Pandora was nothing like what Mercer or the TAP said it was. They said that it was a terrifying, vicious, and cruel world. However, to your eyes, It was beautiful, the bright sun, the sounds of the creatures and water of the forest. It was like a new world and you couldn’t believe that you spent so long without it all.
As you walked forward, finding So’lek and the others immediately became a priority, when you finally found So’lek, he was hurt, the concern in you washed over like a wave in your chest, he must have gotten injured while protecting you. You knew at that moment that you wanted to protect him as well, taking his bow and using your Na’vi sense that So'lek told you about, made you realize how much you missed out on life, then getting the dapophet plant to heal him and fighting the RDA, gave you a feeling like no other, it made you feel that you can help, that you can be a protector as well.
However, It was when So’lek asked about your songchord, that made your heart flutter. You can still remember the conversation even though it hadn’t been that long.
“You have no songchord.” So’lek said as he got up after repositioning his shoulder, noticing that the Sarentu he seemed to run into a lot was missing a songchord. There was just something different about her, she seemed very caring and yet so strong in spirit, as he could tell as they were on the run from the RDA. “We had my mother’s, but they stole it” Your voice cracked as you said it, the pain of losing both your sister and the songchord, the only piece of your mother left still hurts you to this day.
Hearing that, So’lek felt anger and resentment flare up in his chest. Not only did they kidnap the Sarentu children, kill his clan and hurt the lands of Pandora, they had the audacity to steal something precious from a child as well. He could not explain the feeling in his chest, he wanted to do something for the Sarentu. “Then we must change that” his voice seemed to soften as he said the words and as he questioned, “What is your name Sarentu ?”.
Hearing his voice being gentle brought heat to your cheeks, and more flutterings in your chest, a feeling of happiness seemed to spread through you, “Y/N, my name is Y/N” you looked at him as your name rolled out your mouth in a hurry. Hearing it, So’lek lips curved up a tiny bit, his smile although small was gentle.
The rest went on with him making sure you understood that you must find your own way as you are a Na’vi and by doing so on your own was the way you can learn and then he finally asked you to join the resistance, hearing how he talked about the resistance made you understand why he was in it and you wanted to join them to help other Na’vi, to help save Pandora. After reaching the resistance base and meeting many new human faces, it was a breath of fresh air, they seemed so kind and you could tell that they were sincere in their welcoming and the work that they do here. The only person you still felt a bit weird with was Alma, but you discarded it as it was probably a long time of not seeing each other. She must have felt that she lost all of you after putting you all to cyro sleep.
Seeing the rest of the Sarentu trio free was another happiness that you could not describe, as you saw them as your family. With you being the second to last youngest, you looked up to Ri’nela and Nor a lot, you tried to be there for them as much as possible, to be listening ear or someone they could find comfort in, especially Nor, as he lost his best friend, your big sister. He was the only one that would rebel at the facility, trying to follow Aha’ri’s footsteps. Ri’nela, she became a big sister to you, but was always worried about what would happen if things didn’t go the way TAP wanted. Then there was the youngest, Teylan, he was like a little brother you never had, he would always hold onto your shirt when he felt overwhelmed and sometimes at night when he felt no one would notice, he would sneak into your bed and cuddle wanting to escape whatever nightmares would plague him. It was why you made a very simple doll out of one of the old clothes you had, you gave it to him saying that at times if he couldn’t see you, that he can always hold on to it to know that you’ll always be there for him. The day you gave him that, he hugged you so tightly, he didn’t let go for a long time. But it worried you how much he seemed to praise and think about Mercer.
Then you were given your first mission, take down one of the RDA facilities near the base which was polluting the land, Pneumatic Tower Echo. It felt overwhelming at first but after seeing how the land, your land, the land of Pandora, was ruined because of the RDA, a determination had stirred up in you. It was what made you destroy the RDA facility as soon as possible. In wonder you had seen Eywa had worked in mysterious ways, the land rejuvenated after the facility was destroyed, with creatures from the forest returning to the land, the flora coming back to life. Teylan called you through the radio in worry after hearing the bang, he and the others were at a flower they found. He wanted you to be there with the others so you could check it out, you had hurried over to the group, slowing down as you and the others came closer to the flower, Ri’nela had gasped in wonder, saying how that it was the flower that opens only for the Sarentu, to connect to Eywa, a Tarsyu. You had looked at it in awe, as you could only barely remember seeing the flower when you were a toddler. Finally, pulling your kuru forward, you connected to Eywa and met your ancestor Entu, the first Toruk Makto, with your will renewed, your heart became content and excited at the prospect of learning more and more about what it means to be a Sarentu.
You stopped reminiscing as you finally headed over to the armory where So’lek was at, looking over his gun. For some reason you didn’t think twice when Priya told you that So’lek was looking for you, your feet seemed to have a mind of their own. So’lek ears turned to your direction as he heard your footsteps approach him, he looked up and his lips curved up automatically, he looked proud as he said, “You did well out there”. You felt happy at his words, that you had helped the resistance in some way. As you looked over at him, you felt curious about the weapon in his hand. “Did the humans teach you their weapons too ?” you asked.
So’lek’s eyes became dull at those words, a resentment growing in his chest as his thoughts went to his clan, from when he could last remember them. You wanted to take back the words immediately, not wanting to see his eyes fill with such emptiness ever again. “No, I saw the RDA butcher my clan. Their bullets slicing them to shreds. That was my lesson.” he explained, his voice low and tense as he continued, “I know how it feels to be among the last of your people. The humans…they are like their guns. Brought here to cause pain.”
You took in his words and you honestly agreed to what he exclaimed. Guns and those strange machines just brought more destruction to Pandora, especially the humans who operated them. But you were confused as well, were the humans here at the resistance base not RDA once ? Voicing this concern of yours, he firmly replied in a hurry, “and I will not make it easy for them to forget. They are our allies now, yes. But, this is not their war. They fight for the ghost of their home world. But we fight for our home.” His words made you think about your time spent at TAP. Although the program was to ensure a healthy relation between humans and Na’vi, it never felt like that. It felt like that evil man had won, “In the end, Mercer got what he wanted, he made us into soldiers.” Your hands clenched tightly at your sides, your tail swishing, agitated and just saying it made you frustrated.
So’lek looked at the Sarentu thoughtfully, he could understand her frustration, her pain and sorrow, he could see how much she wanted to change the way things were and he felt like he wanted to help guide her on her journey, to be her helping hand, he could not explain these emotions well. So he advised her, “You are not what they made you. You are Na’vi. You will learn what that means in time. Starting with this,” he pulled something from the back of his gear, it was a songchord, “I made it for you” he passed the songchord to you, looking at it, you could feel the crack in your heart when they had stole your mother’s songchord from you lessen. You held it in your hands gently, as if it was the most precious thing in the world, which probably was as this was the first time someone, other than your sister and mother, ever made anything for you.
“My own songchord, like my mother’s…” you gently noted.
“All Na’vi wear one. It is your life’s journey for the world to see. For you to remember” He explained the significance of the songchords to you.
“Her’s had more beads on it” you exclaimed in a low tone, trying to remember what it looked like when you last saw it, before Mercer had taken it right out of your hands. You tied the songchord that So’lek had given you on your wrist and examined it carefully, noticing a bead on, your eyes looked at him curiously.
“Each bead is a moment of great importance to the wearer. I have put one in place to commemorate your first steps to freedom. Build on it. Build your own memories. Each one, a new song in your heart.” So’lek explained, noting the soft and gentle look grace the Sarentu’s face. This expression was something he hoped to see, to brighten whatever dark clouds that had been swirling in her mind.
You looked at him, hoping to convey your will to him, “I hope we can. Ri’nela really wants to try. To know what it means to be Sarentu. But at the Tarsyu…Nor seemed confused. Upset.” Thinking about it, after your sister's death, Nor took it hard and felt that it was his own fault for her death, that he did not try harder. He always used to listen closely to Aha’ri with you when she would hum the songs or tell stories of the Sarentu.
“Eywa shows us who we are. And who we can be. But she also reminds us of what has been lost. For your people, that is a heavy burden” So’lek said somberly. He then picked up his gun and started inspecting it again. “The back exit is not so exposed, he may be there.” Noting the worry on your face for Nor, he stated. You nodded with a smile at him, you were about to turn and leave when you remembered, “So’lek,” he turned his head to your voice, a slight shiver crawled up his spine at the gentle caress in the way you said his name, he could see your expression and he felt shocked at the way your eyes looked him in gratefulness. “Irayo So’lek. Thank you so much. For saving me and the others. For giving me strength. For making this songchord and the bead, I will treasure it always and I hope that I can show you my journey through it.”
You turned to leave, feeling the heat rush back to your cheeks at the honest words you blurted out to him, your feelings all over the place. However, before you left, you heard him whisper to you, so that only you would hear, “Be safe.” You felt your heart skip a beat as you nodded to him and rushed out of the base in order to search for Nor.
So’lek did not expect the Sarentu to say such heart-felt words, he had to cover his face because it felt slightly heated. He did not understand what he was feeling, as he did not feel the same with the other Sarentu trio as he did with her. Maybe it was her honest and caring nature that made him feel flustered. For now though, he decided to ignore those feelings. He needed to focus on gathering intel about those who killed his clan and defeating the RDA.
Little did either of them know, that in the future that he would not be able to ignore his feelings and that there would be a bead that represents them on her songchord.
∘ Oel ngati kameie - I see you
run away with me - part two
Part One Here
Pairing: Nor/Fem!Sarentu!Reader
Summary: Nor hesitantly returns. And while Ri'nela is quick to forgive and welcome him back into the Sarentu... he knew that you would not be as forgiving. But you wouldn't be the woman he loved if you did.
Word Count: +3k
Warnings: Spoilers for AFoP, only one or two uses of Y/n, proofread by me, ANGST!!!
Taglist: @mooniequeen @avatar-lover @taronyuhunter
A/n: This needed a Part 2 (especially now that I finally got to that you-know-what scene on AFoP. I had a feeling it would happen but still!)
Ri'nela is tsahik now.
Nor is honestly so proud of her, and of everyone he left behind. When he returned and realized that everyone in the Resistance was still around -apart from those who were lost to the attack on HQ- even after so long, he was internally relieved. While he initially hated the very sight of his human allies, he had spent so much time traveling alone, surviving in the wild, and reflecting on himself and his inner demons... to the point where he knew that the Resistance was not part of his pain and Priya and the others were innocent. He had come to the same conclusion as So'lek did. They were his allies, and they wanted Eywa to be free from the pain the Sky People inflicted on her just as much as he did.
As Ri'nela shows him around, keeping her arm linked with his as if afraid he would disappear, Nor quickly notices a few things are different among the new Sarentu clan and their tawtute allies. There were several more Na'vi than he remembered. All of them come from different backgrounds, wearing various clothes and different styles from one another, and none of them bore the mark of the Sarentu. Some had very young children among them, and to his surprise, they bore the mark of the Sarentu. They all greeted Ri'nela respectfully as she passed by them, addressing her as their tsahik. The only one who appeared to treat Ri'nela the same as before and call her by her name was Teylan, but Nor suspected that she likely asked him to. Teylan gave the other Sarentu male a wide berth, and Nor couldn't blame him.
While Ri'nela leads Nor away from the clan to journey to the Hollows, he notices one other thing about the Na'vi living among the reformed Sarentu.
You were not among them.
He didn't dare ask, no matter how much it pained him to do so. He felt as though he had no right to know about you, to know what you've been up to or if you were even still alive. He knows Ri'nela will be expecting him to ask, but he's still as stubborn as when they were kids, so he bit his tongue.
And maybe that's why Ri'nela brings him to the Circle of Ancestors, something he dreaded but knew it needed to be done. He had felt like a stranger in Eywa's presence, not having connected to her since he and his friends first found a Tarsyu flower. Nor felt as though he didn't deserve to connect to the Great Mother, not after growing up in the shadow of the Sky People, learning their ways and forgetting everything he had been taught as a child. After he left the Resistance, he felt more ashamed of who he became and was convinced Eywa would hate him now more than ever after what he did.
Ri'nela was patient with Nor, encouraging him to connect to Eywa, at least just this once. She promised she would never make him do it again if that was what he wanted, and so, Nor knelt in the grass and slowly took his kuru in hand, finally making the connection.
He finally got to see the truth for himself, revealing what Alma did... or, technically what she didn't do. While his anger and resentment still festered, there was also unimaginable guilt. After he saw Alma's memories, he also saw yours.
He saw your fear and pain while walking through the remnants of the Circle of Songs, the place the Sarentu were butchered during their annual moot, now laid barren within the yavä'. He had been on the radio with you as you traveled through it, remembering how he listened to your distress at your discovery in the midst of searching for proof of Anufi's innocence. He remembered feeling helpless, wishing more than anything that he could have gone with you. He should have gone with you...
He saw your grief and pain... your anger and fear. He saw everything you went through, and most of it was without him, when you needed him the most. He saw you every time you connected to the Circle of Ancestors, downloading your memories in case something happened to you. He saw how you wept in front of Eywa while clutching a familiar carved stone in your hand, the one he had gifted you after promising to always stay by your side.
Your memories did little to comfort him, and as he finally disconnected from the Circle of Ancestors, his curiosity got the better of him, glancing over at Ri'nela as she carefully watched him with folded arms.
"Where... where is she?" He finally asked.
"She's persistent in spreading stories and democracy across other clans, like a true Sarentu," Ri'nela doesn't hesitate to answer, having been waiting for him to ask, "While I remain here to lead our clan, she ventures out there, as our envoy, to find new friends and spread our wisdom. She always comes back with stories of her adventures and sometimes brings home other Na'vi who wish to join the Sarentu. She always has something new to tell me from her travels."
"So..." his ears begin to rise with hope, "She eventually comes back?"
"Always. It could be days or months, but she always comes home. Although... she never stays long."
Ri'nela sucks in a deep breath, her gaze heavy, "I can see it in her eyes. She is saddened by us. She looks at me and Teylan and thinks of you. That is why she travels so much... to be rid of your memory. To forget that you abandoned her."
Despite how her tone was soft and gentle, her words cut deep into Nor's skin, making him flinch in pain as his ears and tail lowered in distress and guilt. Ri'nela lowers herself to her knees, meeting Nor's eyes with a stern, cold expression, "When she returns-- and she will, you will not abandon her again."
Nor swallows sharply and nods once, his voice so quiet and strange to him, "What do I even say to her?"
The Sarentu tsahik lifts her chin, "I would do nothing less than beg for her forgiveness on your hands and knees."
~~~~~~~~~
Nor had been living among the Sarentu and the Resistance for two months before you finally made your appearance.
You flew in by ikran, fast and agile, your Bonded barely giving herself time to fan out her wings to stop her descent before her talons landed gracefully on the ground. Luckily, no one was close enough to be ambushed by the harsh entrance, but once people began to realize who had made a quick landing in the center of their community, they all began to flock toward you and your ikran, eager to see you and hear about your travels.
Nor didn't know that it had been you who landed, but when Ri'nela came to fetch him, both relief and dread fought each other in his stomach, his lungs barely expanding enough for him to breathe. He follows the tsahik out of his new kelku and toward the crowd, unconsciously keeping his head down so you wouldn't immediately see him.
Not like that was an issue as you were currently occupied by your friends and family, barely giving you time to dismount from your ikran before you were bombarded with hugs and warm welcomes.
"Y/n!"
"Teylan!" You laugh excitedly, hopping down from your banshee as Teylan runs up to you. He bends low just before he scoops you up in his arms and swings you around in the air enthusiastically, causing you to let out a soft squeal of surprise.
Nor watched this soft display from a distance, a small twinge of his tail indicating he was slightly jealous. He was aware of what Teylan had done and knew why neither you nor Ri'nela felt the need to tell Nor about their friend's betrayal after the first HQ was destroyed. At the time, Nor was hateful and blamed everyone who wronged him and his loved ones. He understands why he was never told about Teylan's betrayal, knowing it wouldn't have gone well... knowing that it might have ended up like what happened with Alma's avatar.
Despite coming to terms with himself and calmly accepting both Alma and Teylan's betrayals, Nor couldn't help but feel bothered as he watched Teylan set you down and begin rambling about everything you might have missed while you were gone. It bothered him that you had forgiven Teylan easily enough, your smile wide and keeping your eyes solely on your dear friend as he talked so he knew he had your full attention.
So'lek walked up and greeted you as well with a small yet warm smile, asking about your travels and other clans. Nor felt his eyes lower in shame. While the lone warrior was sympathetic to Nor and how he felt, So'lek has yet to speak to him, only watching from a distance with those disappointed eyes. Nor couldn't blame him. He had let So'lek down, just like many others.
He stands back, letting everyone else greet you first, but Ri'nela won't let him run away, no matter how much he wishes he could. Keeping Nor to stay put with just one, pointed glare, she turns away and walks up to you, embracing you tightly before whispering into your ear,
"There is someone here to see you."
"Is it Anufi?" You asked excitedly, not yet catching whatever dire note was in your friend's voice as you pulled out of her hug to inspect her face, continuing to ramble, "Or Okul? I promised them I would bring some of Relun's best recipes the next time I visited. I didn't think Okul would be so impatient--"
You cut yourself off, voice faltering on your tongue as your eyes catch movement behind Ri'nela. Peering over her shoulder, words fail you as your eyes widen in shock, face quickly losing color as if you had seen a ghost.
Nor felt his skin prickle under your watchful eye, noting the way your ears and tail fell before he could even blink. Standing closer to you than before, he made a quick observation about your attire, his eyes scanning the songcord running up and down your arm, longer than it had ever been before. His own ears lowered when he noticed a familiar item dangling from the cord.
You still had his stone. He wasn't sure if that made him feel better or worse.
~~~~~~~~~
After you were given time to relax and have a home-cooked meal with your friends and loved ones, you found yourself in a secluded part of the forest near the base, arms crossed and internal walls up as you stood before Nor, alone. Ri'nela insisted the two of you talked privately, and the two of you both had your own reasons to disagree with her, but didn't dare protest.
You let the two of you linger in a long, sullen silence, making Nor's skin crawl uncomfortably, keeping his eyes lowered to the ground while yours practically bore into his flesh. He wished he didn't deserve your hatred, knowing that you were unforgiving when you wanted to be. Perhaps it was because you were younger, but you always seemed so... kind and gentle, but eager to fight for what was right. You always wanted to fight for your home, for the memory of your mother and sister. You had wanted to fight so that other Na'vi children never went through what you went through with Nor, Ri'nela, Teylan, and the other Sarentu children who were abducted. Nor has seen your fire directed at the Sky People and he was always proud to witness your ruthlessness... but he never thought he'd be on the receiving end of it.
And now that you were less young and less naive, it was hard to picture that younger, more hopeful you. As he stood before you, he couldn't help but wonder where had the time gone.
Your eyes never leave his form, your expression impassive as you finally spoke, "How long before you leave again?"
Nor flinched, eyes still downcast, "I... I don't intend on leaving."
"Like you did last time."
He winced once more, voice quiet in response, "Could you ever forgive me?"
Your eyes narrow, "Why should I?"
"You seem to have forgiven Teylan easily enough."
"Because at least Teylan stayed and did everything in his power to show he deserved forgiveness," you snapped. Although you never raised your voice, your words still felt like a punch to the gut, "At least Cortez stayed and tried her best to right her wrongs, instead of running like a coward and avoiding her responsibilities."
His eyes finally lift to meet hers, irises riddled with guilt and pain, "I'm so sorry..."
You glared at him for what felt like forever when really it was only a few minutes. Eventually, your posture relaxes, the anger bleeding away into defeat and quiet resentment. You shook your head, voice equally as quiet as his, "I don't blame you for how you feel. I don't even blame you for what you did, despite how much I wish you didn't do it."
Your own eyes lowered, unable to look at him as you whispered, "I blame you for leaving and not making it right. For abandoning us-- your family."
Nor wanted to reach out and touch you, but instead curled his hands into fists to restrain himself, keeping them at his sides while looking out over the forest, "Why... Why didn't you just track me down and drag me back?"
He couldn't help but wonder. You were an excellent tracker and hunter, far more observant and patient than he had ever been. Many times while he was alone out in the wild, he would dream of you ambushing him, screaming at the top of your lungs before you grabbed him by the ear and brought him back... back home. Nor would often wake up from these dreams and feel cold, often looking around to see if you were actually there or not. But you never showed up.
You bite your lip, "I thought about it... many times actually. Sometimes it was almost an unbearable temptation and I had to keep busy to stop myself."
He glanced back with disbelief, "Why?"
"Because as much as I hate you..." If you had realized just how much those words hurt him, you didn't show it, your mind far away even as you looked directly at him, practically looking right through him, "I would never make you do anything against your will. That would make me no better than Mercer. You wanted to be left alone. So that's what I gave you... even if it left the most unimaginable pain in my chest. It was worse than Aha'ri because at least I knew my sister was dead... but I had no idea where you were or if you were alive."
Nor was harshly reminded of what he saw in the Circle of Ancestors, your pain still at the very front of his mind, the very pain he caused for disappearing without a trace. His eyes glance down to your wrist, longingly staring at the small stone with the mark of the Sarentu he had carved into its surface.
"I'm sorry."
"You said that. You also said that you go wherever I go," she followed his gaze and lifted the stone up to her eye level, staring at it while remembering all of those promises he made the day he gave the stone to her, "You said if you ever leave, it would only be when I was ready to go with you. You lied."
Nor finally stepped forward, hands reaching out to you as he tried to bargain, "B... But I'm here now. I-- I'm here to stay and make things right again. I can make things right. Teylan and Alma... they came back to make things right. I want to do the same."
"Yes. Now. When the fighting is over, not when it mattered." You bite back.
He sucked in air through his teeth, hissing as though he was in pain, your words like venom, "I know. I know I made a mistake. I should have returned immediately after leaving. I should have gone to cool off and then come straight back to you. I... I should not have hurt Alma. I should not have hurt you."
"And unless you can turn back time, you can't change what you've done," you step away, keeping your distance, keeping your walls high and on guard as you mutter, "I should be grateful you wanted to try and traditionally court me. If we hadn't taken things slow... had we mated... I don't think I could have survived what you did."
Your eyes glare deep in his soul, "What was that phrase Mercer used to say? 'I dodged a bullet?'"
Nor's ears stay low and pinned to his skull, looking like a kicked puppy, "Please do not say that."
"Why?"
"Because you are not Mercer."
"No, but as of right now, it's easier to say his name than yours," the words stung, hurting Nor even more when he caught the way your voice cracked. Glancing up, his heart shattered at the sight of tears slowly spilling down your face, your lip trembling as you tried to keep your words steady, "I expected Mercer to do terrible things. I... I never expected for you-- for you to--"
Leave.
You scoff to yourself, your words ashes in your mouth, "I should've known. You wanted to leave from the start. Maybe if I had let you go from the start, this would have hurt less."
"But I am here now," he quickly soothes, "I'm here."
You don't glare at him, but your wet eyes bore into him as though he had betrayed you all over again. You let out a shaky sigh through your nose as you slowly open your mouth, making your tongue move before you could hold back your words, "... I don't need you right now. I needed you back then, but not now. I needed you when it mattered."
He could almost see your walls building ever higher in your mind and heart, his own beginning to crumble to dust, "Y/n, please--"
"I'm not going to make you leave again," you quickly add, turning your back to him as you start walking back toward the Resistance base, distantly speaking without sparing any emotions, "I'll do that myself. I have to leave at first light tomorrow to meet up with the Zeswa before they take off for migration. I think it would be best if you and I don't interact from here on out whenever I come back home. Stay or leave, I don't care anymore."
You walk back without uttering another word. You don't even look back to see Nor's reaction. He watches you retreat until you completely disappear from view, the urge to run after you so strong he has to bite his tongue from calling out to you. Something made him stay put, letting you go despite how his anger and sadness were pleading with him to pick up his feet, to follow you, to say everything he didn't know how to say but by Eywa, he wanted to try.
But he didn't. He knew this was no more than he deserved for what he put you through alone.
Sneak peak: full house
“You’re kidding” norm says, not really believing what he just heard.
“I am not, believe me norm, I almost didn't believe it at first either” Jake says.
“No, I have to hear it myself. Replay it” norm says, max nods, replaying a message they were sent just an hour ago.
It was an audio, a bit scuffled but loud and clear was the voice of a woman.
“Hello? This is Alma Cortez. I am a researcher and Co director of TAP. An education branch of the RDA. I don't have a lot of time but I am seeking help from the RDA rebels, more specifically Jake sully, aka Toruk Makto, and Grace Agustine. There are na’vi children here being held against their will. They need help and I alone cannot do it. I need-God damn it! Grace if you are hearing this, please! I need your help! They are not all dead! I repeat! The Sarentu children are alive!”
With Open Arms
So'lek x Reader One-Shot
Word Count: 1.3K Warnings: None
Author's Note: Love that taciturn man. He's hot.
**********************************************************************
She comes back to base late in the evening, exhaustion mirroring her posture as she makes her way through to the command center, telling Alma and Priya about the meeting with Ka’nat. It’s as they fear, he won’t play ball, as the humans like to say, and one of the female Na’vi sent her on a hunt with one of the Aranahe to prove herself.
“It’s so stupid,” she says, rubbing her temples, white face paint smearing as she does. “I’ve already hunted a titanothere. And they’re sending me to hunt a sturmbeest.”
“Maybe it’s not about the size?” Priya offers nervously, fiddling with the tablet in her hands.
“But it’s the principle,” she retorts. “I’ve already proven to hunt something bigger and stronger. Why this?”
Alma, ever the peace-keeper, rests a hand on her shoulder. “Just, follow what they say. You’ll gain their respect if you do.”
She huffs, rubs her temples again and sighs. “Fine. If this is what it takes.” She nods to the two of them and leaves, walking around to the gear bench where she sets her bow and rifle down, staring at them.
“I see you wasted no time finding better gear,” a voice says from behind and she looks over her shoulder, seeing So’lek restringing a bow.
She looks down at herself, realizing that yes, she did find better gear, only after Nefika practically stripped her naked and shoved the Aranahe warrior gear into her arms, prodding her along to a secluded area to change. Straps and braces of tanned hide, teal and lavender weaving, bright purple feathers with matching stones of yellow and fuchsia. A perfect fit, tight in a way she’d never experienced when it came to clothing, but it felt right.
Her cheeks warm, darkening as her bioluminescent dots flicker to signal her fluster. “Nefika, one of the Aranahe,” she starts. “She, um, was kind enough to offer me some gear. With more color, as she said.”
“Ah, Nefika,” So’lek says. “Quiet the gossiper, that one. Pulls strings from behind everyone.”
“I’ve noticed,” she laughs softly, walking over to sit down beside him. Enough space that he has his own, but close enough to smell the scent of sweat, oil, and the muskiness of the trees. A scent that makes her heart beat a little faster, stomach flipflopping. “That hunt I’ve been sent on,” she murmurs. “You said you should’ve shown me yourself.”
He nods. “I should have. I did not think they would send you on a hunt.” His eyes meet hers. “I am still of the mind that Ka’nat should respect your Sarentu heritage.”
“It’s been over thirty years since anyone has seen the Sarentu,” she mutters. “What is there to respect about a dead clan?”
His expression darkens. “Much.”
She suddenly remembers that So’lek himself comes from a dead clan. “I apologize,” she hurries. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
“I know what you meant,” he replies. “But it still stands. Your people were one of the greatest clans. Brave, kind, caring. They listened without judgement, solved errors, provided peace and clarity. They were what the Sky People would call ‘peacekeepers.’”
Thinking back on her TAP education, she counters, “Yeah, but Sky People peacekeepers usually kept the peace by killing. Not by being diplomatic.”
“I love that you think your people shied away from a fight.” He looks at her. “Diplomacy is not the only way to keep peace. Is it the best way? Possibly. But your ancestors were known to stop problems before they started.”
“I thought our people were…y’know, pacifists. Hated violence in any capacity.”
“Reluctance to fight doesn’t mean you don’t. It just means it’s a last resort.”
She looks down at her hands. They used to be a lot smoother, now rough and calloused from using her bow and guns. “It seems to be my only resort.”
“…sometimes we must fight to make a change. It does not mean we will fight forever.”
Her eyes met his. “How did you do it?” she asks softly. “When you had nothing left. How did you go on?”
So’lek pauses, his eyes lowering to the bow in his hands; he runs his thumb along the smoothness of the wood. “Like you, I spoke with my ancestor through Eywa. I took his journey. It brought me here.” When she doesn’t say anything, he looks up to see her staring at him with a deadened expression. “What.”
“That’s it?” she says. “No emotional revelation? No dramatic declarations? Just ‘it brought me here?’ That’s it?”
He rolls his eyes with a grunt. “Your people are the storytellers not mine.”
“Oh, that’s the easy way out,” she grumbles.
So’lek shares a rare laugh, lips turning up in a soft smile. “My journey was long and arduous. I spent many years on it. Met many clans. Many times, I wanted to quit. Many times I wanted to die. Many times, I almost did. I kept going because I believed that it was not done yet.”
“Until here?”
“Until here.”
She pulls her knees to her chest, looking at him as she rests her chin on her elbows. “I’m glad you’re here.” Her voice lowers into a whisper. “You make me feel more normal. Make me remember who I am.”
“The Sky People have taken much from you,” he says softly. “But they can never take who you are away.” He sets his bow aside on the rack and looks at her. “You should rest. It will be night soon.”
She heaves a sigh and deflates. “But I’m not tired yet.”
“You are. Even I can tell.” He nods to her weary posture. “There will still be a hunt tomorrow. Go rest.”
“Hmm…” her hum is low in her throat, a signal of her displeasure. “Will you teach me?”
So’lek looks at her. “To hunt?” he grunts. “I thought that Aranahe was teaching you.”
“I thought you wanted to teach me,” she says, voice dripping with teasing as she adds, “Are you jealous?” His gaze narrows as he looks at her pointedly. “It’s okay, So’lek, I promise I won’t let him keep me out past curfew.”
He lets out a noise of displeasure, waving her off. “Go on. Rest.”
“Teach me to hunt.”
“No.”
“Please?”
So’lek sighs. “You will not rest until I concede, will you?”
“Nope,” she says, popping the ‘p’ in the word.
“Fine. We will start early tomorrow morning.”
She smiles triumphantly, flashing her canines, and it lights up his chest in a way he hasn’t felt in a truly long time. “Thank you, So’lek.”
He looks away, pretends to be busy with another piece of gear. “You’re welcome. Now, go—”
“Go rest, I know, I know,” she exasperates; she stands, glancing down at him. “Will you be awake a little while longer?”
“I have some things to take care of,” he replies.
She nods, turning to walk off, then she stops and turns back again. “So’lek?”
He looks up at her from the floor. “Hm?”
“Those clans you met when you were on your journey?” he nods. “Why didn’t you join any of them?”
He blinks, thinking on it a moment. “I often ask myself the same question when many times I was offered a place amongst them.”
“And your answer?”
“It wasn’t where I was supposed to be. Not yet at least.”
She takes her bow and rifle from the workbench, looking back at him. “Well, if you ever come around to where you’re supposed to be…the Sarentu would welcome you with open arms.”
His eyes widen a fraction, voice gentle as he replies, “I…will certainly think on it.”
Her eyes soften as she smiles kindly, making his stomach flutter, before she bids goodbye and goes to find the rest of her clan for the evening.
I’m so happy to see someone else writing for afop! Could I request Eetu comforting the Sarentu after they have a nightmare about being back in TAP? The player character is wayyyy too well adjusted considering everything they have been through.
Hush, Hush...
GN! Sarentu x Eetu | Word Count: 460 words
A/N: Sorry for the inactivity but I've been busy these past couple of months, this is a little short and very overdue but I promise to get back into the swing of things soon!
Tìyawn: Love
The faint rain pattering on the large leaves above lulled Pandora's creatures into a wistful slumber. My mate Eetu slept calmly under the stars by the smouldering coals of the campfire. I too had joined him, tucked protectively in the crook of his torso, my ears flickering softly to the croaks of amphibians basking in the wet weather. I let out a gentle exhale as I fell into a deep sleep.
My vision fades into the familiar classroom of TAP. My classmates' chatter falls into the background as the walls suddenly rattle with gunfire. Surprised cries are heard down the hall as the dream walkers frantically try to intervene.
Dr. Cortez ushered us below our desks. Our towering frames hunched over painfully as we sat silently as the bullets finally rang silent. I glance over to Teylan as he quivers, unshed tears in his eyes.
Everything was quiet, the only thing we heard was our shuddering breath and the muffled whimpers from Teylan.
Suddenly the metal doors blew off their rails as armed tawtute rushed in with automatic artillery, the cries of the dream walkers fell silent with the cracks of bullets and we couldn't help but weep for our fallen teachers. Suddenly a rifle barrel was shoved into my face before a blinding flash overcame me, I felt like I was watching from beyond my body as I writhed in agony for a moment before subsuming to the trauma.
"Tìyawn... Ma Tìyawn" I hear the distant cries as I'm shaken from the depths of unconsciousness. A choked gasp escapes me as I come to. Eetu is hovering above me, his eyes blown wide in worry, his hair mused from his own slumber.
As my gaze settles on my mate I can't help my lip from quivering, I knew deep down it was a nightmare but it was almost a reality on many occasions. TAP had affected me more than I would like to admit, TAP was all I knew, I was moulded into a pawn for the RDA and stripped of my identity.
Eetu knew I wouldn't improve overnight, it had been years since I was defrosted from cyro but the memories continue to haunt me. When we bonded he swore I wouldn't have to walk this path alone, he kept this vow even now as he ran his hand soothingly through my hair, humming the beginnings of a Sarentu hymn coaxing me to sing along. He knew it was the only way to quell my mind in these fragile moments.
I slowly began to harmonise with Eetu as I lay limply against his side exhausted. Yet he stayed a steady presence beside me never asking me to divulge my thoughts and for that, I was forever grateful.
