The Underground Bunker
LAPD was quick to answer Scientology’s call to detain former cop at weekend protest
TONY ORTEGA
OCT 25, 2023
Bryan Goland, 48, tells us that in 2021 he left the LAPD after nearly 20 years to get a job he enjoys much more: Providing security to high-profile celebrities like Elton John.
And on Saturday, he agreed to help out Alexa Nikolas, an actress Goland has worked for in the past who is known for the Nickelodeon series Zoey 101. She’s become an activist who has held numerous protests about abusive Hollywood figures. This time, she was aiming at Scientology celebrity and convicted rapist Danny Masterson, whose victims testified that the church protected him from prosecution for years.
Dozens of protesters showed up for the demonstration outside Scientology’s Hollywood Celebrity Centre, and Goland says he enjoyed meeting the people protesting Masterson and the church.
He admits that he was not really aware of the long-running controversy about Scientology’s cozy relationship with the LAPD’s Hollywood Division, which we have documented here over the years, and which became an issue in the Masterson prosecution. (Goland spent most of his career in South Central, as well as stints in West LA and West Valley.)
Saturday, Goland said he got a first-hand lesson in how quickly the LAPD answers Scientology’s call.
As a former LAPD officer, Goland is licensed to carry a firearm, and he had a sidearm on his belt as he approached the protest. He says he was wearing a blue short sleeve shirt, black slacks, and black shoes, a pretty standard look for someone working security at such an event.
But as he neared the group of protesters, he says someone with Scientology shouted out that he had a gun, and apparently called the LAPD. Within seconds, he says, officers pulled up and detained him, slapped handcuffs on him, and stuffed him in the back of a patrol car, where he remained for the next hour and forty minutes.
[Goland being detained]
“I have a gun card. They had that in their possession. And after an hour I’m still in the back of a patrol car,” he complains. And he was in some significant pain, as well.
“They did the twist technique on the wrist bone with the handcuffs. You do that to someone who is acting up. I was not acting up,” he says. “The only smart-ass thing I said to them was I worked at LAPD longer than all of them combined.” (He sent us the photo above to show that the handcuffs had left marks on his wrists.)
But the most disconcerting part, he adds, was that they began accusing him of carrying a stolen gun.
It wasn’t stolen, but after they finally released him, he wanted to know why they had told him that it was.
“No one would answer the question,” he says.
From their behavior, he surmised that they knew they had made a mistake.
“I can tell you they were embarrassed because they fucked up,” Goland says. “I threatened with kidnap charges if they took me to the station. I know my laws.”
We asked him if, based on how quickly the officers answered Scientology’s call, he thought that the church was getting special treatment.
“The fact that they were there that quick, and that they then kept circling around was mind-blowing to me. There’s definitely something going on,” he says.
WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IS SUPPOSED TO TRUST GOVERNOR GAVIN NEWSOM, WHEN HIS POLICE HAVE BEEN SO COMPROMISED BY A HUMAN TRAFFICKING CULT, SITTING RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT STATE LIKE A BAD SMELL?

Kirstie Alley, ‘Cheers’ Sitcom Legend and Prominent Scientologist, Dead at 71 After a Cancer Diagnosis
Kirstie Alley, ‘Cheers’ Sitcom Legend and Prominent Scientologist, Dead at 71 After a Cancer Diagnosis
Kirstie Alley, the two-time Emmy profitable actress and one among a small handful of undisputed queens of the sitcom format, has died at the age of 71. According to Alley’s official Twitter account, the Cheers and Veronica’s Closet star’s shock demise got here “after a battle with most cancers, solely not too long ago found.” The native Kansan found Scientology within the 12 months 1979 at the…

Hi! I hope you’re doing good! Do all aspects and placements in someone’s chart make up their appearance? I’ve heard that it does, and I’ve heard that it doesn’t. Just curious to know :)
THE NATAL CHARTS RELATION TO PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Hi, I love this question! I can see arguments for both sides, but in my opinion I think all placements within someones chart make up appearance. I say this because our emotions and inner psychology directly affect physical appearance. And the same can be said for our physical environments. Here are some examples:
Gemini Saturn in the 12th House - Prone to getting bags under the eyes due to poor sleep. Struggles with anxiety and poor appetite.
Venus in the 2nd House - Having the resources to maintain ones appearance. Having access to high quality food, clothing, makeup, and skincare.
Neptune in the 8th House - Prone to drug usage, and is especially susceptible to the negative side effects. These types look spaced out and detached even if they have never used substances. They've probably been asked, "Are you high?" even if dead sober.
12th house stellium - Looks mysterious, even when you get to know them. No one ever truly knows a 12th house stellium. My life long friend constantly reveals details about her life that change the way I view her. And I never really know what she is up to, even when we were in each others daily lives. She travels more than any young person I know, yet remains humble and wise. 12th house stelliums are the ultimate mystiques, and this is an incredibly attractive quality.
1st House stellium - Their distinct personality overpowers whatever their physical appearance may be. Usually people attach traits onto others based on their physical appearance, but the reverse happens for 1st house stelliums. It is almost like they're cartoon characters, its like their personality and sense of character was developed before their physical form even came into existence. Their physical appearance suits who they are so well, I don't know how else to describe it.
Pluto in the 6th house - There are periods in which people with this placement will be overworked.
Scorpio Uranus in the 12th House - The wild card. Their subconscious state shifts drastically and changes unexpectedly, and this most definitely affects the ways in which they present themselves to the world.
Scorpio Mars in the 5th House - People with this placement are baddies. Cool af and might partake in some dangerous hobbies.
Chart ruler in the 4th House - Nostalgia frames the ways in which these people present themselves. Might have a timeless look about them.
Virgo Mercury in the 8th House - Could partake in hygienic practices that are diligent and maybe strange.
Cancer Saturn in the 5th House - Handyman vibes. Down to earth in their self expression.
Sun in the 3rd House - Seemingly youthful, the eternal student.
Strong 11th House placements - Their appearance is somehow associated with whatever group they belong to. This could be church, clubs, sports teams, humanitarian efforts. (For instance, Tom Cruise has his Jupiter in the 11th house and you can't look at him without thinking about Scientology.)
Strong 7th House placements - Tend to take on traits adapted from their relationships. They mirror people.
Uranus in the 9th House - Might end up living amongst a culture that differs from the one they grew up in. This will affect the ways in which people perceive their appearance.
Saturn Square Pluto - 😐 <- this face
Mercury Trine Pluto - 🤨 <- this face
Mars aspecting Uranus - Prone to accidents, bodily injury, scars.

As a collective we need to do more to wipe out Mormonism and Scientology, the US really does just let massive horrendous cults duel within the larger nation like competing malignant cancers. As a medical researcher i prescribe massive radiation.

The Bezzle excerpt (Part VI)
Tumblr media
I'm on tour with my new novel The Bezzle! Catch me TONIGHT in LA (Saturday night, with Adam Conover), Seattle (Monday, with Neal Stephenson), then Portland, Phoenix and more!
Tumblr media
It's launch-week for my new novel The Bezzle, a high-tech, revenge-soaked crime thriller in which my intrepid forensic accountant Martin Hench must pit his wits against unbelievably evil (and sadly true-to-life) prison-tech grifters:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/14/minnesota-nice/#shitty-technology-adoption-curve
As part of the launch, I'm serializing part of Chapter 14, a side-plot about music royalty theft and the (again, sadly true-to-life) corruption of the LA Sheriffs Deputies, who are organized into criminal gangs that murder, run drugs and intimidate with impunity:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/deputy-gangs-cancer-los-angeles-county-sheriffs-department-scathing-re-rcna73367
Today marks the sixth and final installment of the serial, but you can hear me read more of the book. Just show up at one of the stops on my book tour! Tomorrow (Feb 24) in LA, I'm appearing on Saturday evening with AdamC onover at Vroman's:

And then on Monday I'll be in Seattle at Third Place Books with Neal Stephenson:

From there, I'm off to Portland, Phoenix, Tucson and points further:

Here's part one of the serial:

And now, the thrilling conclusion!
Tumblr media
Benedetto was outraged by my face and swore he’d sue the Sheriff’s Department on my behalf. He got even angrier when I got stopped again, the following week, as I was leaving my concussion checkup at the Kaiser hospital on Sunset by a sheriff’s deputy who had me pull over in front of the big Scientology building. This deputy was a little bantam rooster of a fellow, with a shiny bald head and mirror shades and no neck. He strutted up to my car, got me out of it, ran my ID, and frisked me. “Do you know why I pulled you over, sir?” he said. He had that cop knack for making “sir” sound like “motherfucker.”
“No, sir,” I said, trying it out myself.
He didn’t like that and leaned in close enough for me to smell his aftershave and the scented sunscreen on his bare scalp.
“I stopped you, sir, because you were using your phone while driving.”
I must have looked surprised.
“I personally saw you tapping at your phone screen. That is a misdemeanor, sir. Reckless driving.”
He stopped as if waiting for me to respond. I made myself go mild. “Sir, I did not use my phone.”
He was waiting for that. He narrowed his eyes and leaned in closer. “Are you telling me I didn’t see what I saw?”
Mild, Marty, mild. “I don’t know what you saw, sir, but I didn’t use my phone.”
He rocked back and tilted his head. Patients went by with crutches and walkers. Nurses and doctors passed in scrubs. Scientologists scurried in and out of their gigantic temple. A fruit cart man labored past us.
“Well, sir, this should be simple enough to resolve.” He reached for his belt and pulled out a generic ruggedized cop-rectangle of gear, and unspooled a multiheaded cable from its side. He leaned into the rental and retrieved my phone, and squinted at its I/O port, then attached the cable to my phone. The rugged rectangle beeped. “I’m gathering forensics on your mobile device, sir,” he said.
I’d figured that out already. My phone—like yours and everyone else’s—was a trove of my most intimate information, a record of all the places I’d been and people I’d spoken to and all the things I’d said to them. It was full of photos and passwords and client files and voice memos. It was more information than any judge would have granted a warrant for on a reckless-driving rap.
The little man smirked as he held my phone and his gadget. I stayed mild as milk. I was running full-device encryption. I’m no computer security expert, but I spend a lot of time around them, and they’d been insistent on this point, and had made reference to this very scenario in describing why I would bother to dig around my phone’s settings to turn this on.
God, my face hurt. I didn’t know how long the gadget was supposed to take, but from the cop’s increasing impatience, I could tell it was going long.
Beep. The cop shaded the gadget’s little screen from the punishing LA sun with one hand and peered at it.
“Sir, I need you to unlock this device, please.”
My face hurt. Be mild, Marty. “I invoke my right to counsel,” I said.
He pursed his lips. “Sir, if you would please enter your unlock code, we can verify whether your device is in use and we can both be on our way.”
“I invoke my right to remain silent.” I said it straight into his bodycam.
He sighed and looked irritated. I had known Benedetto for so long that I had once had to dial his number from a landline. I’d long ago memorized his office’s number, 1–800-LAWER4U. He’d bought it early, back before 800 numbers got expensive, and he’d had plenty of offers for it. He’d kept it.

god not to be parasocial on main, but I'm so proud of leah remini sueing scientology. it's such a huge move but with the connections she has, the level of documentation of their harassment that other ex-scientologists could only dream of (evidence from the heads of MULTIPLE broadcast organisations? from conan o'brien and anderson cooper??), and knowledge she has from other people who have attempted and failed, I don't know if anyone else could possibly be in a better position than her to get this through the courts. I also suspect that the way the danny masterson case went down was a real tipping point because it exposed so many of their tactics in an exceptional case that had TONS - perhaps an unprecedented amount? - of money and manpower thrown at it by the CoS, allowing them to be better prepared than ever before. leah's in a very real sense the public face of ex-CoS members so that carries some genuine weight. i'm wondering if she's using herself as a wedge to, win or lose, set a precedent case for others less fortunately positioned than she is to be able to follow (specifically I'm wondering if this may have been accelerated/spurred by mike rinder's cancer diagnosis) because that seems to track with most of her advocacy regarding the CoS. I'm really interested to see how this goes down and hope that the anti-CoS community puts their combined weight behind it. it's not even a david vs goliath situation, this goliath has that doohickey that was used to assassinate shinzo abe. she's crazy brave, but equally, at this stage, what can they do to her that they haven't already done? (don't answer that)

DAYS OF THUNDER
DAYS OF THUNDER
My Movie Blog
Once upon a time ago I used to have a thing for Tom Cruise. I think everyone had a thing for Tom Cruise in the 80s and maybe the early 90s. He became popular after appearing in Risky Business, Cocktail and Top Gun and was considered one of the sexiest actors. I still like some of his movies but I don’t know why I’m not into him anymore, maybe my taste in men has matured or maybe it’s the whole Scientology thing.
I remember when I was young the film Risky Business was on television and I taped it onto a VHS video and I would watch it often. One day my brother taped over it with something else (I can’t remember what it was). I was so upset and almost crying. Today I don’t own a copy of the movie, so  you could say that I’m over it.
Years ago I used to go to this same sandwich shop every week at this little shopping centre in town. There was this lady who would see me and would call me Rebecca De Mornay and told me they thought I looked like her. They asked me, “Do you know she is?” I said yes and told them I have seen her in the movie Risky Business. I personally don’t think I look like Rebecca De Mornay at any stage of my life but I didn’t mind them saying that I look like her (it could be worse).
I still had this thing for Tom Cruise when Days of Thunder came out, I think this was around this time he started dating Australian actress Nicole Kidman. Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise both appeared in this film. My brother was into cars and kept scrapbooks of cars when he was a kid and as an adult he would go to car shows and take photos of cars and make photo albums with lots of car photos in it. When this film was at the movie theatre it was around the same time as my birthday, so my brother and I went to see the film. After the movie as we were leaving all these other people who also saw the movie were driving around like maniacs like they were racing car drivers. They were speeding and behaving irrational on the road. It scared us both.
I still like Tom Cruise movies, I enjoyed Steven Spielberg’s remake of War of the Worlds. I also like the Mission: Impossible franchise. The worst film Tom Cruise has been in had to be that Irish movie he made with Nicole Kidman, that movie was just awful.
A few years later my brother got a tumour and we later found out he had cancer and over time he became frail and sick. He was still able to go out a bit and drive his car. My brother couldn’t eat so he had to drink these milkshake things they were a bit like protein shakes. Before he gave up driving he enjoyed drinking milkshakes from this shop at Penrith Plaza (Penrith Westfield) so we both went down to the shops so he could get his favourite milkshake. My brother was extremely skinny, he had always been skinny but he had lost a lot of weight. His neck was swollen due to the tumor in his throat. He only had a tiny bit of hair because he had lost most of it from the chemotherapy which had left him sick. He would always wear a blue beanie. When we were out in public some people treated him just like a normal person, but there were some people who would walk past him and give him dirty looks and there were others who would snigger at him while looking at him. The way my brother looked was the least of his concerns and shouldn’t have been anyone else’s concern. He couldn’t help the way he looked, he had cancer. Some people were so ignorant and rude. Some people would have known he had cancer just by looking at him; perhaps they had gone through a similar experience with someone they had known. My brother got worse he had to give up driving, sometimes my mum would take him down for his favourite milkshake. He got worse and frailer so he couldn’t really go out much anymore. My brother died about 4 or 5 years after Days of Thunder was released. I can’t remember what happened to my brother’s car I think they sold it.

HOW I IGNITED THE SERPENT SUN:
We are only beginning to understand the harmony in which we have lived and the disharmony we are causing with our constant damage of our finely balanced environment, which has taken the last 15 billion years to achieve. Just as our immune system sends out warrior cells to attack cancer, so too will the universe put a stop to that which causes it harm—humankind should be warned.

Im seeing people say val Kilmer is also in a cult just like tom cruise, is this true? To my knowledge he was raised in some sort of Christian sect but does this sect require him to cut contact with all family including children that are not in the sect? Are his children also in the sect because of his beliefs? Because if not then it's just a religion and not a cult. Hope you don't mind my question you seen knowledgeable about him and I haven't read his book to know more about his belief system
Hi.. I don't mind people asking me about Val at.. In fact I'm so glad u came to me. ❤️
Val is a Christian scientist.. Which is so different from Tom cruise scientology..
Val was raised a Christian scientist since he was a child along with his brothers.
His brother Mark and val's kids chose not to be Christian scientists of their own will.. And it definitely didn't make a difference in their relationships.
Val and Mark had a different kind of dispute that made them estranged for a while. But now they are closer than ever again.
Val's kids as u can see in his documentary have always been tight with their father.. Val never forced them into the religion. And they live in harmony and love. They are his most important things in the world.
To give you an example of what Christian science is.. It is basically a special kind of Christianity that differs by favoring the power of prayer, meditation and love over the use of modern medicine.. To an extent of course.. I'd rather u talk to a practicing Christian scientist than me for info.. But I'll try give you my own pov..
Val as u know had a serious pout of throat cancer.. His cs church didn't authorize the use of modern medicine. So it got worse. His kids won't have it. They made him go up against his religion to save his life (tells u how much they love him)..
I recommend watching the documentary VAL for more insight on him on Amazon prime.. And thank you for coming to me ❤️❤️

Scientology Success Story
“Success Stories” are part of the insanity of Scientology. First of all, they are required at the end of every class or service in Scientology. You are asked “would you like to write a success story?”  But in reality, it is NOT optional. If you don’t write a success story, it’s a BAD indicator and you are sent somewhere for “correction”. That’s creepy as shit…I mean, who forces you to write a…

Cheers, Look Who's Talking, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and so many other roles... Comedic actress Kirstie Alley (1951 - 2022) died yesterday at the age of 71 from colon cancer. She had discovered that she had cancer only a short time ago, and was being treated when she passed.   Born and raised a Kansas girl, she was always outspoken about her beliefs - whether they concerned weight loss or her faith in Scientology - and left Kansas for LA to bring us years of laughs and entertainment.  RIP Kirstie, we'll always remember you on AncientFaces
