I wanted to try session skate sim for so long and finally caved and bought it and it's just. Bugs and gitches that prevent me from finishing the tutorial even. Cancelled the tutorial and tried to complete the manual mission and it's a known issue that the game ignores successful tricks on that one. I can't believe it's in this condition after so long. I waited on hold with playstation support to get a refund 😭 the guy was so helpful and understanding

The switch port of "Session: Skate Sim" is not good.

I'm unsure if it's because Session itself isn't good or because it's the switch port.

Like you can't ollie off of ramps! Which like, of course you'd want to ollie off of ramps and maybe it's because I'm not great at timing their terrible inscrutable controls, but every time I've tried to ollie off of a ramp, the original way to ollie before the flat ground ollie was invented, my character just goes limp and falls over.

Also the controls are so bad, but before we can talk about the controls in this game we need to talk about the controls in a different game. In the Skate games, the board is controlled with the left analog stick. You flick it in different directions to do different flip tricks. It's really intuitive and redefined the skating video game forever. Now Session is trying to do the same but worse because now, you have to use BOTH sticks! The problem is in every single skating game your steering was also controlled by the left stick. But here's the thing, now the left stick steers but only sometimes. I would try to set up an ollie and try to make little adjustments, and my guy started doing the shittiest weakest kickflips. I thought the game was glitching out but nope. If you hold the right stick back and then the left stick sideways, the way you would to adjust before an ollie, you do a kickflip instead! So instead you have to steer with the triggers WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE HISTORY OF FOREVER AND IT'S BAD AND TERRIBLE AND I HATE IT!!!

Also like because this is the switch port they had to reduce the graphics to work on the weaker hardware, but they just look terrible. Like games on the 360 looked better than this even though they're at the same resolution and graphical quality. People have legitimately forgotten how to make good looking bad graphics and it hurts my soul.

Also, your guy just falls over at the drop of a hat. Like, oh, you brushed up against something? Your guy's brain is now disconnected from his spinal column, and now he's a limp body. Skating games often had generous collisions where your guy would bounce off of walls when making small impacts, the kind of impacts one is likely to make regularly when controlling a man on a skateboard using two little control sticks! But in Session, your guy just ragdolls.

Speaking of ragdolls, instead of reacting like other models did when wiping out with animations for the way people react when they hit the ground, now your guy just instantly dies and flops over.

Dedicated game devs have done more with less.

I'm so sad because I loved Skate and I was really hoping to see it continue on, but at least Session has ragdolled at the start line and fallen flat on its face in the least humorous way possible.
