Nano day 11

Today is Remembrance Day. It seems fitting that I am writing a lot about what I went through and transposing it in space. I am enjoying the challenge. I thought that my scattered brain had actually lost all motivation. But then I hit 2k (which doesn't get me to the recommended word count) and I'm really happy to get three scenes completed.

A lot of what the characters say are versions of what I felt and what I think, but there is a wonderful feeling that in fiction you get to say it out loud and not keep them to myself because there is reality I wasn't able to say many of these things, and even if I had said them it wouldn't have mattered. I say this because I wrote about consent today, and it was the crystallisation of all the things that I have learnt in the ten years since I was just starting my adult journey and the strangeness that has been around since leaving Christianity and all its cultural accouremonts.

If this goes further than being posted on my other blog: @bitsandpiecesaworkinprogress (which if you want to check please do so). I do want my writing to hopefully resonate with people who might be in there or see a resonance that reminds them that there are other people who have thought some of the same things as them.

I haven't yet tackled another writing exercise but keen for that. I am really feeling that my writing has actually gotten better in combination of the actual writing, writing exercises and the interminable job applications that I'm writing.

But sometimes I really canNOT convey an idea properly with words alone. So I make the thumbnail:

Which looks pretty incomprehensible to other folks but works well enough for me! And all that being said, sometimes changes are made in the middle of the process! If you're working alone, you can always change something within the script while working on the page, itself, so long as it conveys that information you're trying to convey on that page!

-my clegane sisters dress mostly in outdated simple stuff, still technically okay for a low ranking noble but not up to date or particularly pretty. Think very functional instead of flashy Renaissance clothing. I made a post ab it recently in my #asoiafhairandclothing #shamelessplug

-VIOLENCE 😋🙏🏻🤸🏻‍♀️🎉🍾 Dagmar is very violent and aggressive already but that’s kind of mindless and reactionary. If she actually cares about someone (i.e. Iva) it’s more of like “I’m doing this because I care ab you” or a “how could you be stupid and do that” kind of violence. Aggressive arm and jaw grabs after the other does something not smart yayyyyy. If she doesn’t like you it’s more aggression but also lots of posturing to make herself seem scarier. Like those birds you know. If Iva really cares for someone (i.e. Dagmar) she’ll let herself fall asleep around them or allow herself to actually be present instead of dissociating or even act a little silly like a normal child. If she doesn’t like them it’s immediate shutdown mode and avoidance central

-boy do they. They’re both walking DSM-5s so many a quirk to be had. Iva has OCD (heavy on both the compulsions to soothe the constant feeling of anxiety she has) so she is constantly doing things in certain amounts. Unlocking and locking the door over and over, tapping each leg six times, etc etc. She also does stuff to “neutralize” her bad thoughts so she’s like if I make it up the stairs in ten seconds the gods won’t kill me in my sleep tn. So u just see her sprinting up the steps at random intervals. Other random habits include skin picking, a lot of hair twirling and chewing, mumbling, not making eye contact, rocking back and forth while standing, and separating her food before she can eat it. Dagmar also has OCD but less severe than Iva, and it comes mostly in terms of obsession, and when the thoughts get super bad she tends to pace a lot. Picks at her skin too, especially old cuts and scrapes. Lovesss to poke at bruises when they’re fresh. She checks the bolts on her bedroom door multiple times before bed. Has to tie her boots so tight her circulation nearly cuts off.

I technically “stole” a serviceberry tree from my campus. They like growing more shrub-like instead of having a single trunk, but grounds crew cuts off all the branches at the base because god forbid the plants look “unkempt” and not like a conventional tree. They grow twigs at the bottom of the trunk to recover and grow how they want. I took one off a tree and did a live stake at my house so she’ll have a chance to grow how she wants. Only intervention is gonna be to ensure health of the tree. I don’t think anyone would care except the on-campus cops or some of the people with no knowledge of plants. I might do some more so I can also have some fruits for the community and the wildlife in the long term. Just thought it was neat c:

I’m not sure if I’ve ever told this story on here, but ‘majoring’ in Natural Resources as a high schooler, one of our trips was to an arboretum (not unusual) but they made sure to VERY DIRECTLY TELL US that we were NOT ALLOWED to pick up any sort of leaves, twigs, nuts, acorns, etc. because all of these plants were VERY EXPENSIVE to which ofc we all looked at each other waiting for someone to suggest it first.

They had their bonsais in a locked room behind a rope and each plant pot was on sensors. It was wild.

I’ve never been a fan of how crepe myrtles are cut here in NC, but that’s how it be. I’m happy for anyone to be giving a plant a thriving home. Unlike me who kills everything.
