Rocket Relationship Chart
(Without any canon characters, this time.)
Making this in an attempt to entice people to get Rocket the last few votes she needs in @sonic-oc-showdown, but also to let people over there know I have a lot more characters to talk about if they like Sonic and Sonic-adjacent OCs! If you liked Rocket, might as well come and meet some of her friends and enemies! And... whatever Mix counts as.

Sodor Light Show
Tidmouth
1989
Other Stories
Other Chapters
It was rare to see the majority of the Tidmouth engines all in one place, much less the station itself. There were almost always engines running across the Island’s Mainline and beyond. In reality, neither the station nor sheds were designed to hold that many engines, and only two lines weren't covered in waiting engines.
Up Line One held the largest actual train, the Treelight Express. Twenty coaches gleamed under the station lights even with the strings of lights along their sides unlit, filled to the brim with passengers eagerly awaiting the run to come. At their head stood the railway’s flagship engine, somehow managing a regal expression despite being covered from footplate to funnel in unlit lights. He was studiously ignoring the muffled snickering from the red mogul at platform three, well aware the No.5’s laughter would turn to jealousy once the lights were lit.
Down Line One held a smaller train of fifteen coaches facing the opposite direction with the distinctive shape of Zephyr at its head.
The engines were quietly chatting as they waited for the train from Ffarquhar to arrive.
“I’m glad it's on this side of the island this year,” No.3 said as he stretched carelessly. “I love the ceremony, but I always dread the Kipper the next Morning if it starts from the East.”
“Or the North.” Tidmouth groaned good-naturedly.
A familiar whistle sounded in the distance.
“That’ll be Thomas.” Gordon said, stretching his valve gear in preparation.
James frowned, “he’s early.”
Tidmouth laughed, “how much you wanna bet someone bet he couldn't make it before the hour?”
“You'll find no takers for that,” Jinx said, amused.
Thomas raced into view, his train covered in glowing lights, snow flying to either side, a large old lantern secured to his bufferbeam. The train glided smoothly into the station behind Zephyr’s train. The tank engine’s passengers flooded the platform, but a path was left clear for one of them. Sir Charles Hatt, strode forward strongly despite his three quarter-centuries of life, taking the lantern from Nicole who had unhooked it from Thomas’s bufferbeam and carried it to the unit tree in the center of the station.
Cheers, horns, and whistles filled the station as the tree lit, covering everyone in a rainbow of colours. Gordon was focused on the track before him, and the lantern being carried to him. The former Fat Controller passed the lantern to Rain, who quickly secured it to his lamp irons. Another round of cheers rang out as the lights of Gordon’s train blazed to life. The pacific vaguely registered the cheers as a second lantern was used to light Zephyr’s train, but his focus was on the signal before him.
Rain climbed back into his cab, the signal dropped, and the guard blew his whistle.
With a strong whistle, North Western No.4 heaved the heavy train into motion.
With a storm of sound, light, colour, and steam, the Treelight Express raced off into the night.

I like how the Barman has a headband with Nish’s Symbol on it, similar to how Sparrows has one with Caper of Euros’s later on! Did she get the idea from him or is it a common practice to wear the symbol of your Iterator/ City’s symbol?
Ha iterator mascots at big sport games with the teams in the according color.
well, the idea of an Ancient wearing an Iterator's mark first came to be with Sparru and the idea there was to signal that she belongs with him. to audience as his partner, but in-universe as his Mechanic. she's dedicating her whole life to servicing this Iterator, she might as well take on a piece of his identity upon herself at that point, yanno
so Mechanics wearing their Iterator's mark is a must
the Barman wears Nish's mark for two reasons: 1. since he's running a business that isn't local, he tries to cash in on it/advertize it. yanno, how you go to a chinese restaurant to get chinese food- you go to his place to get drinks (n maybe some food too) from No Significant Harassment's colony 2. people of Risio are Very proud of where they come from. oh they know how important Nish is as the second senior of Looks to the Moon's group. but most importantly, Nish is part of family over there. the Houses might be frowning upon it, but the citizens ultimately don't see Nish as their Iterator, but as their big brother/uncle/whatever have you
so people who wear an Iterator's mark see or understand that That Iterator is unimaginably important to their life, either in career or emotionally. the Houses also wear their respective Iterator marks since... yeah, representation, and Yes sport teams would Also absolutely have dresses and mascots in correspondance with the Iterator they come from!
normal citizens/groundbound people don't usually touch that stuff much. think of it like a country's flag or uhh... erb.... Coat Of Arms !!! coat of arms fits the best!
cuz a country's flag equivalent would be smth to represent the whole group- for example, the Aeolus Council and the Children of Eo all come together under a flag with a snake on it. this is also one of reasons why Zephyr's mark is a snake. that beast was chosen becaue (religious reasons and) there are some real nasty snakes living in the Aeolus Root's range. their venom is very potent and one of the most precious resources this group has to offer- it is used for medicine purposes, including as a main ingredient in an anti-The-Rot shot
and then Iterator marks are those Coat of Arms <3
#spot says stuff#rw#oc tag#Iterator marks are so so important for identification and identity in my stuff that whenever i see an iterator oc without one i jump a lil-#-in panic on instinct JKLGMLKSDML#''WHAT ARE YOU DOING HOW WILL THEY FIND YOU ON THE MAP BOY!!!!!!!!!! WHERE IS YOUR IDENTITY!!!!!!!!!! ITS LIKE NOT HAVIN A NAME!!!!!''#n then two seconds later i go ''oh wait right yeah different universe rules ay fuck (‘ – ‘;)ゞ (‘ー’;)ゞ go on my apologies sir''#Zephyr matches with the Aeolus flag but Moon doesnt with hers group flag! this is cuz of Moons age and importance as one of the first-#-ten iterators. their marks were more important to represent the karma symbols than coat of arms n flags n such

Some quick impressions of translations of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
I fell in love with Marie Borroff's translation just from reading the preface, which is very insightful (definitely do read it, whatever other translation you pick!) and also unusually useful for the reader. We don't crucially need a translator's thoughts about what the themes of a story are because we can read it ourselves first, but Borroff talks about the tone (elevated, ironic, playful?) and that is really useful, since it is so easily obscured by time and translation.
Borroff's biography is extremely impressive: before even starting the translation, she spent a decade of her professional life reconstructing the pronunciation and meter of each line and the provenance of each word. Unsurprisingly, the translation is excellent; by the usual standards (accuracy, fluency, transparency/"invisibility") it seems hard to improve on.
Simon Armitage's translation seems to consciously reject fluency and transparency, creating "choppiness" as a deliberate aesthetic effect. Consider for example the use of modern colloquial English here:
and in the other hand held the mother of all axes, a cruel piece of kit I kid you not: the head was an ell in length at least and forged in green steel with a gilt finish
"Piece of kit" and "I kid you not" date the translation to the last few decades, while the "ell" unit has not been used for 400 years. By dragging the reader back and forth in time like this, the translation draws attention to itself. But it is not only a matter of choice of words, we get a similar effect from the ways Armitage breaks up or enjambs lines:
Gawain […] so bore that badge on both his shawl and shield alike. A prince who talked the truth. A notable. A knight.
This was a single sentence in the original, which got "chopped up" into four, including a full stop in the middle of a line.
George B. Pace's translation is the subject of a very charming story somebody posted on tumblr. It is abridged (12k words, versus 21k in the original), and translated into modern-sounding English prose, but if you are interested in the plot rather than the poetic devices it seems like a reasonable approach. I mostly didn't miss the parts he cut, although I do wonder about his focus when he e.g. omits lines of dialogue between Gawain and the Lady but leaves in the decorative filler about the zephyr warming the lands.
I have no particular thought about Burton Raffel's translation, except for one interesting pitfall. He translates most of the poem into prose (although it is kept divided in lines), but the four rhyming lines at the end of the stanzas are translated more loosely in order to make them rhyme. In theory this makes sense: for a modern reader the rhymes and iambs are very salient while we are not very attuned to alliterative verse, so translating just the bob-and-wheel into verse preserves most of the poetic effect.
But in practice it doesn't work so well. First, Raffel just isn't that good at it: Borroff and Tolkien manage to make their translations rhyme while sticking closer to the sense. But more interestingly, the rhyming couplets obviously draw the attention of the reader, and the author uses them to highlight the most load-bearing words, which are often chosen to be nicely ambiguous. The tale is written in 'lel' letters, which could mean that it's true, or only that it is composed in valid alliterative verse. King Arthur waits 'stif'ly to hear a tale or see a wonder, which (says Borroff) could be a heroic "resolute" or an ironic "stubborn". The lady enters Gawain's chamber and banteringly offers him 'my cors', which could mean "myself" but of course literally means body. And what were they doing to that deer? Actually these lines are the parts where you need to be most careful about the meaning.
J.R.R. Tolkien's translation is interesting because he seems to try something different. While Borroff and Armitage try to approximate the effect the poem would have on a 15th century reader by translating into current English, Tolkien uses archaic syntax ("him" for "himself", "we come not" for "we don't come" etc) and archaic vocabulary (the book includes a glossary, which you need to use to understand the translation at all). I think the idea is to capture what it is like for a modern reader who knows Middle English to read the Middle English original, with the particular pleasures of puzzling through a text as a non-native speaker.
Reading this (and even more his translation of Pearl in the same volume) I was surprised by how skilled Tolkien was at verse—he carries over a lot of the formal aspects, and I think his version sounds the best.

Can I get 55, 65, 69, and the brothel one w/ Mountain? Can Phantom be the one he’s corrupting?

Posted: 3/3/25
It started when mountain disappeared every Sunday after morning mass. He would take communion, offer his donations, then suddenly disappear. It puzzled the newly summoned quint ghoul. Mountain wasn’t in the kitchens, or library, or ghoul den! Not even the gardens or anywhere on campus! It worried him, but not as much as it confused the ghoul. He went to primo, mountains teacher and the head of earth ghouls. After all, Primo made Mountains schedule!
“Uh…excuse me sir!” The very short ghoul stood straight, like a little soldier in front of the eldest Emeritus, “do you perhaps, know where mountain is at this time of day every day after Sunday after mass?” His words come out as fast as a fish on a slide.
Primo turns away from his rose bush, “mm well I have mountains word that it’s top secret, but I’d say he’s messing around in…meeting room 69.” He says, joking with phantom.
See, phantom doesn’t understand sarcasm and taps his feet together. “Yes! Of course! He must have a meeting!” He says before sprinting away.
It was at that moment, that phantom slammed the doors open to that room, that he knew he had fucked up.
His eyes went wide, his tail dropped dead, ears in airplane mode, his stomach dropping in pure embarrassment.
The entire “meeting room” was full of nude siblings of sin having sex. Two of the four walls had holes with asses sticking out, and people of the same or opposite gender pumping into them. The sight of so many pairs of tits and balls made his heart race with surprise.
There’s sisters of sin in latex, lingerie, or just nude handing out communion and condoms on golden plates. His senses are so overcrowded with the moans and whimpers of pleasured people that he doesn’t notice the sister of sin seductively whispering to him, “the ghouls area is in the back, love.”
There was a wall of cloth that separated the room as it lead into another, down four or five stairs. The small den was Smokey with weed and incense, the floor made of rugs, pillows, and blankets. The walls covered in Scandinavian style lamps and drapes. On their sides, there were luxury couches. But other than that? The floor was your bed.
Phantom looks around, and he spots a few ghouls of different eras. Zephyr was seemingly getting sloppy seconds from a nun. Beside him was who he thinks was ifrit having his way with a brother of sin.
Now, maybe primo wasn’t joking or he had good luck. Because to his right in the very back was mountain laying with a nude brunette woman on his side, caressing her sides as he nips at her ear.
Phantom stomps up to mountain, a maroon blush across his face, “so this is where you are at all the time!” He points
Mountain is taken aback, as the nun skitters off.
“Phantom? What are you doing here?” Mountain sits up, covering his indecent self.
“I! I….uhm..” phantom actually….doesn’t know why he’s even here…his brows drop from their scrawny state
“Tsk,” mountain chuckles, “just wanted to be naughty? And interrupt my free time?” He teased, he knows it gets phantom going
Phantom blushes even harder, “n-no. I was just…curious.”
“Mmm…thought so.” Mountain relaxes, “I know you new summons are so innocent, i doubt you would be bad enough to be this kinky yet.”
Mountain knows he’s making phantom upset, and he loves it.
“I-“ phantom is silent
The earth ghoul grabs phantom by the wrist and pulls him down to him, “then why don’t you show me how bad you are?”
Phantom gulps.
Before he knows it, mountain has phantom nude in his lap. Their cocks pressed against each other as mountain grabs his ass with both hands.
“I was right, you new summons are so so very innnocent.” He sighs at the tight hole, “did daddy Aether get to protective? I’m shocked delta hasn’t absolutely ruined you. Omega has always been so reserved, but even he likes to have his way with virgins like you.”
Phantom whines, he was far from a virgin but he was inexperienced. The way mountain talks to him, as if he’s not even there, makes his pretty flush tip twitch.
“You smell…so nicely..” the earth ghoul licks a stripe up the smaller ghouls hole, “not a trace of another ghoul here, been a while since you’ve been stuffed hmm little ghoul?” His deep growly voice hums as phantoms ring clenched around nothing.
Phantom hummers in response, his knees aching against the plush floor.
Mountain swirls his tongue around the tight hole, gently prodding as the ghoul trembles. He takes his cock in hand, gently massaging and pressing a thumb against the ghouls balls.
“Soo full of milk,” he teases, squeezing a little harder as the quint ghoul jerks.
Mountain once again circles over the ghouls anus, rubbing a fingertip over the others soft leaking tip. Mountain leans down to taste him, running his tongue across the slick of his ass, thumbs gripping him to pull apart, making space for his tongue to delve inside him. To taste that delicious sweat that drips from his back in the warm room.
He could cum right then, with mountains mouth between his legs, and after a few seconds he feels his orgasm building, as if the tight coil in his gut is becoming more insistent. He feels himself twitch and flutter around mountains probing tongue. His cock kicks out a thick droplet of cum, soaking in where the fabric of the blankets is folded under his shaky thighs.
“You’re just a whiny ghoul. Poor thing probably can’t help it.” Mountain teases
Without warning, phantom lets out a loud moan, spoiling his load on mountains knees.
“Mm such a good boy,” mountain flips him over, sucking the smaller ghouls cock in a second or two to drain him even further.
Phantom is mortified as he tucks himself back into his clothes. He walks out of the brothel, head hung in embarrassment.
He would never ask primo where mountain was again.

Introducing the Second Generation of Four Heroes!!
The First Wielder of Galaxia and father of Sir Arthur,
Sir Uther!
He Uses Plama Ability in this AU, He is also a somewhat cringe old man. and.... YES YOU CAN HIT HIM OR PELT HIM WITH ANYTHING 'N EVERYTHING <3
That Being Aside....
The Second Hero and the Keeper of The Crystal Mirror,
Lady Zephyr!
She uses Tornado Ability, She's probably the least insane and most disciplined of the group. She also hates Uther's laid back personality, and will fight him whenever he's slacking off again :)
Next One;
Bishamonten's Chosen Warrior and the avatar of Tigers,
Sir Tora!
He's pretty much calm despite his fellow heroes random daily shenanigans. Uther getting blasted by an onbashira? he said "Ok.", Zephyr blasting an onbashira at Uther? Once again, "Ok."
And the last but not least;
Tamer of Beasts and a skillful fighter,
Sir Orion!
He is a tamer of Beasts and Monsters. Yes, he also owns a Wolfwrath! He is also very chill and rarely lost his cool. (i also used a base for the wolfwrath design, the base is made by @wolfwrathknight on DA, they're also here too!)

Ifrit is Down Bad tm for a specific way he's shown affection (I'm not at all projecting what I wish I had, no sir not me)
Ifrit isn't sure how it started, how he discovered it, but he knows he has a favorite kind of physical show of affection. If he really tries to reflect on it, maybe it's because of Alpha.
His ex mentor happens to be a better teacher than people give him credit for. Maybe it's because his passion for music overcomes his short temper, or maybe it's that Ifrit's honestly been a model student, who knows. Anyway, Alpha quickly found a balance between constructive criticism and praise that worked wonder on Ifrit. And it's where the touches come in play.
Alpha is a man of few words when it comes to feelings. He's not used to giving compliments, genuine ones that would motivate someone to be even better, or assure them that their hard work was not in vain. But there is one thing he is good at, and, surprisingly, for someone so guarded and wary of new people, it's touch.
Alpha's not delicate about it, though. And Ifrit fucking loves it. The heavy hand at the back of his neck, squeezing roughly, the fingers ruffling his hair harshly enough to make strands spike in every direction, the hard pats to his shoulders and back sending him stumbling forward, and, his favorite, the few instances where Alpha will grab him by the jaw and shake his head using his grip on it.
But oh, there is something about how even with the apparent carelessness, Alpha never hurts Ifrit. Actually, one could argue he is being oddly...gentle in his roughness. And Ifrit is addicted. It almost makes him feel small, in a good way, which he craves more than he'd care to admit.
So, yeah, Ifrit's preferred kind of touches are the ones that kind of make him feel like he's a victim of cuteness agression. Which, okay, he often is. Zephyr in particular seems to often fall prey to the overwhelming need to squish Ifrit in any way they can. There definitely are crossed wires up in Ifrit's brain, because the surge of warmth he feels whan Ivy sinks his fangs in his shoulder probably shouldn't be there. It's not even lust, it's genuine affection he feels whenever that happens - and it happens a lot. Same for when Dew headbutts him fondly though none-too-gently, pushing their foreheads together almost like goats play fighting with a sharp grin, or when Mist has Ifrit casually stuck in a headlock, both of them sprawled on the couch in front of those shitty cooking shows they both love to hate-watch.
There's also the way Swiss will slap his ass or tug him by the tail to get his attention, usually right before he jumps on his back and stays there like a giant koala for as long as Ifrit will let him. Or how Aether will flop down on top of Ifrit and purposefully roll them off the couch with a giggle that makes the fire ghoul want to carve his heart out and offer it to him. Aether's hand is always at the back of his head, sure to keep him from slamming it on the floor on accident.
Ifrit's quite literally yanked out of his thoughts by a firm tug of his hair, making him look up from where he burried his face in Sunshine's tummy.
"Mmh yes ? S'up Sunny ?"
He's mumbling a bit, but to be fair he was close to falling asleep here. The ghoulette hums, tugging a bit more on strands of black hair until Ifrit's tail starts wagging lazily.
"I was sayin', there's a gig in town tonight Dew wanna see. Wanna help us steal a car to get there ?"
Ifrit pretends to consider, tilting his head this way and that, delighted to feel the resistance from Sunshine firm, gentle grip still in his hair.
"What's in for me ?"
Of course, he's in, already planning internally which car to take, but it wouldn't be fun to just give in like this. Sunshine probably knows it, but she plays along, nudging Ifrit's shoulder with her knee.
"I'll let you eat me out after, how's that for a deal ?"
Ifrit is sure he lights up like a Christmas tree decorated by Phantom and Aurora, ears perking up as his tail knocks against the bedframe in his enthusiasm.
"Fucking yeah. Yeah, okay, I'm down."
Sunny rolls them around with a swift push of hips until she's straddling his, grinning like a maniac.
"Yeah, you will be, literally."
That makes Ifrit roll his eyes with an exasperated huff.
"That was so lame. You're spending too much time with Swiss, you're becoming lame."
Sunshine sticks her tongue out, dissolving in giggles, and Ifrit melts when she squishes his cheeks in her hands.
#ifrit the first time alpha shakes him like a big dog : “well i sure hope this doesn't awake anything in me”#spoiler : it did#ifrit is ivy's personal chew toy btw#and the ghouls are so real for getting extreme cuteness agression just by looking at ifrit#same btw#cause he's big and strong but everyone just wants to squish him#jkdjdjdssdhdsd#i love him dearly#now i want what he has with the ghouls#somebody put me in a cardboard box and shake it gently#please#ifrit ghoul#sunshine ghoulette#alpha ghoul#nameless ghouls#the band ghost

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura doodle dump
various scribbles or scrapped WIPs from the past few months of some Arcanum NPCs~
September 2024 - Scrapped M'in Gorad scribbles, based on her in-game sprite and one of the female elven portrait options (since she doesn't have an in-game portrait).
While Raven's hair is described as "dark crimson, almost black," I like to think M'in Gorad's hair is a dark green, almost black hue.
October 2024 - Scrapped/unfinished Torian Kel sketch from my endgame team headshots. I restarted this dude's portrait like three times because golly it's so hard to capture his likeness in my style.
?? November 2024 - scrapped armor concept for Torian Kel, inspired by a blend of in-game armor, 17th-century Dutch infantry armor, and 19th-century Zouave infantry uniforms.
November 15, 2024 - My take on Hieronymous Maxim, the Master of Repair and (in his words) the "inventor of the mechanized gun and the recently absconded aeroplane." You know, the same planes that shot down the IFS Zephyr in the game's intro.
I took reference for the clothes from an 1882 fashion plate. For Hieronymous Maxim's face, I referenced his namesake, Sir Hiram Stevens Maxim, creator of the first automatic machine gun who also experimented with heavier-than-air flying machines.
I'm thinking of making similar portraits for the other Master Trainers.
December 20, 2024 - island hermit Nafroodinski
February 17, 2025 - My interpretation of a younger (Age of Legends-era) and a present-day (1885) K'an Hua. I imagine he had a Gollum-like transformation in the 2000ish years between to become what the game describes as "[... a hunched, robed figure...you are taken aback by his hideous appearance. An air of dank, foul evil emanates from him, warping his elven features.]" (although he ended up looking like Brad Dourif's portrayal of Grima Wormtongue lmao)
Early April 2025 - Headshots of Jayna Stiles and Garfield Thelonius Remington III, much like this previous batch of follower portraits I did~

The Whangdoodle was once the wisest, the kindest, and the most extraordinary creature in the world. Then he disappeared and created a wonderful land for himself and all the other remarkable animals—the ten-legged Sidewinders, the little furry Flukes, the friendly Whiffle Bird, and the treacherous, "oily" Prock. It was an almost perfect place where the last of the really great Whangdoodles could rule his kingdom with "peace, love and a sense of fun"—apart from and forgotten by people. But not completely forgotten. Professor Savant believed in the Whangdoodle. And when he told the three Potter children of his search for the spectacular creature, Lindy, Tom, and Ben were eager to reach Whangdoodleland. With the Professor's help, they discovered the secret way. But waiting for them was the scheming Prock, who would use almost any means to keep them away from his beloved king. Only by skill and determination were the four travelers able to discover the last of the really great Whangdoodles and grant him his heart's desire.
