Very unusual 1964 mid-century modern home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. 4bds, 6ba, $1.379M. It's architect Herb Green's "Cunningham House."

Look at those curves in the ceilings.

Isn't this unlike any other MCM you've seen?

Look at the shape of that support column and beautiful mezzanine.

Beautiful living room with the mezzanine above, brick wall that goes up 2 stories, and a cool modern fireplace that looks to be one-of-a-kind.

And, as MCMs were ahead of their time, it's open concept.

In here is a family room with a wall of glass.

And, look at this sleek kitchen. I love that chandelier.

The pantry has a mirror wall.

The principle bedroom has rounded walls, a curved ceiling and swirling art.

The mezzanine has book shelving for a wall.

Spacious rec room is all wood and has an MCM triangular fireplace on a brick platform.

This large bedroom has direct access to the pool.

A sophisticated child's room with a fun bed.

A desk area up on the mezzanine overlooking the living room.

Beautiful marble bath.

The home has lovely built-in storage in the wide hallways.

Karl's heart nearly beat out of his chest as he skid past the door to his room. The few seconds it took to get the door open felt like an eternity. His breath was ragged. His eyes blurred. Telling himself that this all had to be a dream did nothing. He'd hit his hip on a table in his rush to get away and the very real pain made denial an impossible venture.

He'd been free. He had been so free but now they had found him. How did they find him? They couldn't have- shouldn't have been able to find him in the middle of nowhere.

He wracked his brain for any mistakes or slip ups he'd made. His mind brought up a blank. It was impossible to tell if that meant he didn't make a mistake or if he just couldn't think over the never ending chant in his brain of "It's over".

Knock knock

Karl stared. It could be John. It could be Mason or Jack.

But it could also be Him.

When Thompson had announced that his dad had arrived in town for an unexpected visit, Karl had been excited to meet the man. He'd met more than a few people with the last name Thompson over the years and all had been fairly pleasant company. Anyone related to the dear sheriff was sure to be interesting. He hadn't been expecting to recognize them.

His parents had hired a variety of people to do some less than legal jobs over the years but only one had consistently delivered results. A favorite of his parents. They had even housed his family for a short time. He'd been afraid of the so called "Angle of Death" but had warmed up after they had taught him how to befriend the local crows. Specialized in finding and hunting down a variety of people. Business men, socialites, critics. The distinctive green shawl, painted leather hat, and sleek black wings couldn't belong to anyone else.

"This is my dad, Philza Thompson."

"Please," he'd said while shaking John's hand, "just call me Phil."

Knock knock knock

"Hello," Karl choked out weakly. More of a question than an invitation.

Phil opened the door softly yet the creek seemed to echo through the room like a gun shot.

"Hello Jacobson," he greeted softly. The name felt like a punch to the gut to hear after so long. "You ran off before I could say that downstairs."

Karl shakily lowered himself into his chair while his legs started to feel like jello. Everything felt like it was happening too fast and too slow all at once.

"Don't-" a wobbly breath to compose himself "Don't call me that."

"Oh, okay then. You're still called Carl though right? That's what-"

"It's Karl- I spell it with a K now. Not a C."

"That's great to hear."

Silence hangs heavy in the air for what feels like hours. Maybe it is hours. It's hard to tell through the tears.

"How-" Karl can barely find the courage to ask but he has to know, "How did they find me?"

Phil smiles weakly and shuts the door behind himself. Probably to keep other people out. It feels too much like being trapped in.

"You sent Wilbur a letter." he explains gently, like he's trying to sooth a distressed child, "A new staff member was in charge of delivering mail and got confused. He gave it to the head of staff who informed your parents. The return address was written in a different handwriting. It was likely added by your post office attendant."

"Micheal. Our mail carrier is named Micheal." Karl mutters. "He's married to a chicken."

He remembers that day. In such a panic to get to work on time. He should have stayed. Should have made sure to tell him not to add the address. Should have said anything.

"Your parents read the letter." Phil continues after the silence takes over again. "They were- They said they were worried by the lack of women in town."

Karl has a sinking feeling he knows where this is going.

"They, um," Phil stumbles over his words here, trying to phrase something correctly. He settles on, "Congratulations on your engagement."

"Thank you," he replies numbly while the years of etiquette classes come back all at once. Hollow script rolls off his tongue while a blank brilliant smile slides onto his face. "I'm sure she's nice."

"I don't know who you're engaged to but I'm supposed to bring you back for the wedding on Wednesday."

"It's-" it takes a moment for him to remember anything other than the swarming thoughts in his brain, "It's Saturday."

Phil nods.

"Why?"

Karl knows there are a lot of questions that he could ask that start with that but to pick any direction would require a calmer mind.

Phil wilts at the question. It's as if he ages ten years in a matter of moments. His eyes are sunken and tired. His wings are far messier than Karl can ever remember them being. Little cuts and loose thread are visible along the edges of his clothes.

"Kristen, you remember my wife, right? Well, she's very sick. I've been wanting to move away from this line of work for a while now but I couldn't. Not with the medical bills that high."

"But, I've been saving up and with the boys old enough to work, I would have just needed to finish a handful more jobs to be free. Then, your letter showed up and-"

Karl can't tell if a laugh or sob spills out of his throat. He can remember from the little he overheard over the years, what his parents would pay Phil. He knows what the value of money is to people now. Just a handful can make a difference to some people.

He should be fighting back. It occurs to him. He should be yelling and pushing and telling Phil that he promised himself that he would never return to that household for the rest of his life and he's going to keep it. He should say that. He should really say that.

"When do we leave?"

Funny, his parents aren't even here and yet the moment they snap their fingers, he's back to their side like an obedient dog.

"I figure we could leave Sunday night. So you have time to get everything in order."

"Oh."

"Karl, you-"

Knock Knock Knock

"Hey Karl," John calls through the door, "Have you seen Phil? The bandits just showed up and they want to meet him."

Phil is over in the blink of an eye and stretching his wings out to block the view to the room. He waves John off easily, claiming to have been giving Karl advice on writing winged characters.

"I'll leave you two to it then," John replies and Karl can hear the fond smile in his voice as he calls out, "as long as he remembers to come down and eat sometime tonight."

"In a bit," he calls back. He doesn't even have to try and sound distant.

John and Phil chatter quietly, about what Karl can't even tell, and soon John is trotting back to the bar. The room returns to silence once again. The silence seems louder this time, somehow.

"So-"

"Get out."

"... okay."

"And say hi to Mason and Jack for me."

"Of course. See you tomorrow."

The door closes softly and the silence is deafeningly loud. Karl sits and watches the light from his window slide across the wall and shrink as the sun sets. It's not until the light finally disappears from the wall that he finally convinces himself to move. He has to settle some things. Who's going to take care of Biscuit and Mitten, what things would his parents immediately throw out on sight, what he can hide or pass off as valuable. He needs to write a general letter to explain to everyone where he's gone. He needs to write individual letters about how much he's going to miss everyone.

He's going home. He does not want to go. But he prepares for the trip anyway. He'd prefer to meet his- his bride before they got married anyhow.

"I'm going home," he croaks into the empty air. A single tear rolls down his cheek as he sobs out as quietly as he can. "I'm going home."

:D Welcome to the Plot! I've been waiting to start off this part of the story since I created this AU. Very excited to keep writing! Sorry for going dark for so long. Between finishing the freshman year of college and coming home to a house under renovation, life has been hectic. I hope you enjoy these next couple stories. Once I write them. I have a lot of free time right now so hopefully I can get through a couple of these before break is over.

you get a full size candy bar of a treat from my current WIP, the next installment of the VWL series, this time Vash POV and dealing with some larger worldbuilding fallout rather than just one smut scene! It's meant to be the Vash companion to Wolfwood's "don't stop if I fall and don't look back." Vash has to visit his sisters and actually face what happened to Knives.

having arrived in Octovern, he's on his way to visit the facility where his surviving sisters are housed:

"The fountain in the green space is splashing quietly in the empty city center. Vash hasn't seen Octovern since - But it's bigger now than even July ever was, all built up and modernized and filled to the brim with sleek Earth tech. And, because of the evacuation, it's dead silent. Empty of inhabitants. Far above, a distant hawk cry echoes. The fountain burbles, water broken into many rivulets by a large monolith of red rock. It looks like a natural piece of bedrock.

The fountain's base is made up of a hexagon of large panels of dull gray metal, angled slightly upwards. When Vash is close enough, he sees that they're segments of hull from some old Seeds ships, micro-abrasions from space debris still intact. And they're covered in writing.

Uverna, 214. Piss Creek, 45. Stony Gap, 1,304. Concord, 892. Carcasses, 501. Juneora Rock, 4,346. Monterusso, 28. Milltown, 118.

Towns and their populations, all wiped out during the Ark's passage. Vash's gaze lingers as he rounds the six panels; four are covered with nothing but place names. He knows not every single person from every town died, but enough did. Enough.

One panel, facing away from the Plant building, bears an etched portrait of a female face with short hair framing her cheeks. Beneath, it says Domina, Beloved, and an age younger than Vash but older than any human. Independent. Vash knows her, vaguely, from the entanglement of thoughts and memories that had been exploding through him during that very last encounter. He knows her via the perspective of her death as seen by her killer: her contact with extra-orbital threads of power that had cracked into her safe shell, wriggled into her skin, stabbed fine blades into all of her flesh, slipped through her meat in a hot, greedy butchery of her young body, warped her, claimed her, sprouted her, bloomed her flesh into feathers -

Vash walks away from her portrait, her eager smile, her Beloved.

Opposite her, on the side of the fountain facing the Plant building, is the epitaph. "In memory of all that was lost," it begins, and goes on for a short but saccharine paragraph about grieving together and building back stronger through new alliances. At the bottom is a simplified version of a star map, a few dots and lines connecting Earth to her lost children.

Vash thinks it's very much the kind of monument that Earthers would build.

He moves his eyes from the text to the bedrock centerpiece, with its clear water flowing endlessly over a piece of stone that will never absorb it. That's all that really needs to be said about this planet, isn't it?"

jere's Em Balmer, my altmer magcro dps. she is so so so fun to play in cyro because she uses a lot of combos involving corpses and self sustain; i put a few points/abilities into things like healing nearby allies and gave her the aoe rez ult to help with capping. she's a goth who got into necromancy for the aessthetic, but she comitted too hard to the bit and is slowly turning into tamriel's hottest lich. all the necromancy and graverobbing started giving her some godawful nightmares, so she started worshiping Vaermina to try and bargain for better dreams; it hasn't paid off yet. somehow, she's dating Mirri Elendis. title: Expert Excavator

my beautiful powerhouse stamdk tank, Opens-Doors!! she's the best. she always gets me instant queues for any kind of dungeon event and she doesn't afraid of anything. she grew up in the black marsh and lived as an egg-tender for many years, never having kids of her own but becoming something of an aunt or godmother to generations of hatchlings. she had something of a midlife crisis and decided it was time for a change, so she packed her bags and headed west to look for a new life of adventure, but her motherly instincts are still her biggest motivator and she's always reminding her fellow mercenaries to eat their vegetables. title: Locksmith

Pachin-ko, my stamblade stealth bomber. if i'm playing pvp and not using Em, i'm using this girl. she grew up in northern elsweyr; her mom basically raised her on her hip and taught her how to get by with as little as possible. since she went her own way, she's become something of a thrill-seeker, always looking for that big break that'll let her settle down for real, so she's always thinking up a get-rich-quick scheme and skipping town to avoid paying her gambling debts. she met Opens-Doors in Leyawiin and they've become inseparably entangled since; Pachin-ko brings a sense of direction to Doors' wandering ways, and Doors keeps Pachin-ko from backing out of promises or betting everything on black. title: Paragon

my werewolf warden, Chuck Backstrap. she has so much wasted potential... i got her to level 50 literally two weeks before they rolled out that update that changed light/heavy attack damage and completely nerfed werewolves. :(

last but not least: Joe Crabshack. he's my dumbass gag character with whom i do all my fishing. his lore is that he is so completely bland and uninteresting that people are compelled to loathe and shun him practically on sight. he doesn't notice or care. i bought the Sleek Creek House and painstakingly turned it into a beautiful seafood restaurant and bar just for him! my dream is to someday beat vet hardmode castle thorn just to get him the "Inedible" title, but we all know that's not happening anytime soon...

Pancakes Household: Chapter 7, Part 2

Bob's dream is to reach the top of the chef career. However an opportunity to franchise his recipes has him considering what he really wants from his career, and legacy. Dale may be old but he's alive the entire part, no unwarned deaths here!

They were rolled for the week of Dia de los Muertos so I did my best to have them celebrate it and honour the spirit of the occasion. Obviously not a perfect representation, I'm still learning and bound to make some mistakes on the way.

Bob: You look amazing Jumble

Eliza: You don't look so bad yourself Sleek

Bob: Listen, at work today I was approached by a rich customer

Eliza: Did they want you to add extra kale again

Bob: No, actually they wanted to open a chain of Bob Pancake restaurants

Eliza: Are you joking right now

Bob: I know money means a lot to you so I wouldn't joke

Eliza: Are we going to be rich

Bob: I'm not finished yet

Eliza: There's more than a restaurant chain

Bob: They had some conditions. Retirement being the main one

Eliza: So money without working? Sounds perfect

Bob: And never being a chef again

Eliza: Let me guess, you turned them down

Bob: They wanted to have sole rights to my image, my name, my recipes

Eliza: *sighs* Bob-

Bob: It just didn't feel right. I want to make a name for myself. Be a sim you and our kids can be proud of

Eliza: And a chain wouldn't accomplish that?

Bob: It wouldn't

Bob: And I'm only 37 anyway, I have so many more years of work and creation still in me

Eliza: Oh.... thank the watcher!

Bob: Wait... You're not mad?

Eliza: I might be SAD we don't get a large sum but I'm not mad. Sleek, a life without cooking would make you miserable when you already struggle with low moods. I'd rather you be busy, happy and healthy than unemployed, sitting around the house, packing the pounds back on. I LOVE money... but I love you more

Bob: I don't plan to be a nobody forever, I'll work hard and in time who knows, maybe I'll open my own place with my own rules

Eliza: You could never be a nobody to me

Bob: I want something I can leave our kids that's more than just simoleons

Eliza: I'm proud of you Bob

Bob: You are

Eliza: Of course. We've both grown since we got married

Bob: Well I'm proud of you, my super hot wife who's a corporate superstar and grew two kids

Eliza: You make them sound like plants

Bob: You know you were napping on my side of the bed

Eliza: Your side? The whole thing is mine

Bob: May I sleep there tonight

Eliza: Depends how good your payment scheme is

When the bargaining of the bed was done for the night the two Pancakes settled down to sleep. No large payout for Bob, but the future is full of possibilities. He maintains the freedom to use his name himself for whatever he chooses to do in the culinary world.

This Sunday is Dia de Muertos, day of the dead. In my game it's used as a day to honour those that have passed on, celebrating life and family. Whereas my sims Halloween is more about embracing the candy and costumes and commercialism. It felt important to have a separate holiday for these two things.

One of the traditions is attending a holiday ceremony together. Before the family can leave however, there is a few chores to do and a Dale to comfort. Bob improves his handiness by fixing the constantly breaking plumbing. Iggy takes time to practice his violin while Fergus uses the bathroom.

Outfits on and faces painted, the Pancakes are ready to head to Willow Creek church and cemetery to pay homage to those sims who have passed on.

At the community lot Iggy and Fergus happily leave sugar skulls. It appears that Eliza and Bob missed the memo about the day being a celebration, and mourn for sims that have passed on.

Leaving sugar skulls brings a day of the dead celebrator, today it's Helena. I try to get the Pancakes to all ask for sugar skulls but glitches abound. As in Iggy received two sugar skulls, one from Fergus and one from Eliza, none from Helena. No one else could get a sugar skull *sighs*

Back home Bob tries to improve his celebrity level by livestreaming his cooking. He is working on improving the gourmet cooking and baking skills. The drone has a friendly enough face so Bob does his best to ignore that there's real sims watching him. He manages to gain a few hundred followers.

Eliza is busy working out when I notice Fergus has picked up some of Kelly's bad habits. On his mother's pristine porch he is dumping paint! Eliza may be embracing some of Bob's mess but that doesn't mean she'll let her kids ruin her tidy house.

Eliza: Stop this instant

Fergus: But the deck should celebrate to

Eliza: It's a deck Fergus. Is that paint water soluble

Fergus: I don't know what that means

Eliza: You better hope it is because after a time out it's your job to clean it

Fergus: But YOU clean everything

Eliza: You made this mess, you'll clean it up

In the kitchen Bob demonstrates he has learned to clean up after himself sometimes. Fergus looks way too happy in time out, probably congratulating himself on a good prank. After Iggy gives Dale a big hug he starts work on his fitness badge. To help, Bob and Eliza have bought him a bike.

Dale is the best assistant chef anyone could hope for. He always check on what Bob is cooking, and eats any scraps that drop. Between putting things in the oven and getting them out Bob makes sure to shower Dale in affection. He loves his four legged family member.

Eliza: Fergus! Dinner!

Iggy: Slow poke

Eliza: I can't believe you did so much today Sleek without messing up your facepaint

Bob: I can cook on auto pilot

Fergus: Why do we even celebrate it

Eliza: I beg your pardon

Fergus: We don't have an Mexican heritage, do we

Bob: We don't but that's not the point

Iggy: The point is sugar skulls

Eliza: No it isn't

Bob: Boys, sims come from many cultures. We may not have Mexican heritage but other sims in this save do

Fergus: So we do it for them?

Eliza: Them and our own ancestors. Dia de Muertos is about celebrating the lives of sims who came before us

Iggy: Who came before us

Bob: Your grandparents

Fergus: Shouldn't we have their photos displayed somewhere

Bob: Normally on Dia de Muertos you would, along with food and candles for their spirits

Eliza: But being premades we don't have any photos of them

Iggy: That sucks

Eliza: Iggy! Language!

Bob: Your grandmother made this soup for me when I was little, it always made me feel comforted

Eliza: And your grandfather taught me how to budget, make do with what you have. I value nice things because I know what it is to have nothing

Fergus: I never knew that

Bob: And that's why we celebrate

Eliza's week will likely be filled with boosting skills for her next promotion. Her hobby is arts and crafts though so it's important she takes some time to relax and cross stitch. Of course, it's hard to do that when you have an adorable dog wanting attention. Dale and Eliza have become companions.

It's hard to pull pranks when everyone is busy so Fergus sets himself up at an activity table to do some drawing and make some crafts. Outside Iggy is still working on his bike riding for his Keep Fit badge. Eliza finishes her cross stitch, though she received a few pricks getting there.

Bob is busy trying to write a cookbook about breakfasts when Dale approaches. He wants to play fetch! Bob eagerly abandons his work and heads to the backyard. The yard has enough space to play fetch properly and Dale and Bob have a whale of a time.
