actually. AU where stiles USED to be a Spark. He used to be able to use magic and use it freely, even if he never really noticed.
au where after the nogistune, something's wrong with stiles. not "possessed by a demon and setting serial killers loose on purpose" kind of wrong, but in a "something's missing that I never knew was there kind of way" like realizing that your vision is juuust slightly out of focus
Stiles used to be a proper spark. now, most of what he has are illusions and mountain ash, and he can't use illusions without a full blown panic attack.
stiles used to have some proper firepower. these days... well he does what he always has, and makes the best of what he has.
#teen wolf#stiles stilinski#mieczyslaw stiles stilinski#scott mccall#sheriff stilinski#spark stiles#nogitsune#void stiles#i get the appeal of 'incredibly powerful magician/wizard/witch/whatever stiles' HOWEVER#his main skill has always been being a smart cookie and working with the tools he has. and i love that for him

you know, an interpretation of ct that I don't see that I personally really love is that she's a fuck up. like yes she's cool and she has some good fight scenes, but a huge part of her character is that she makes mistakes. the mistakes that she makes are ones that on their own aren't the end of the world, but she keeps making these little mistakes, and they eventually add up until she's out of room to make any more.
a really good example of this phenomenon in action is the actions she took leading up to her final confrontation with carolina and tex.
strike one, she thought she saw something in the water, but when asked by the leader what it was, she brushed it off as nothing when even if it had been nothing, it would've been smart to tell him what she thought she saw.
strike two, she didn't sense or notice florida's presence when the leader did, and she looks at the leader twice, once as she pulled out her magnums, and again after she did a scan of the room, almost like she was looking at him for guidance before he finds florida and takes him out with one good axe throw.
strike three, she couldn't convince the leader to leave when they had the chance to get away, and her cheap tricks were not enough to hold off either tex or carolina in a fight. they were only good for incapacitating her opponents enough for her to get away, which doesn't work when she has no escape.
ct is not tex, or carolina, or south. she is not a one woman army who can get herself out of trouble when she's stuck in tough situations. she needs people who can watch her back, she need a team who can cover her when she does mess up, and the leader and his team were not those people. she couldn't bring herself to trust them, and they couldn't bring themselves to trust her, and that cost all of them their lives.
#i say i never see this interpretation of ct as if I'm not the only person having ct thoughts in 2024 lmao#red vs blue#rvb#agent connecticut#this is why wash and ct work so good together they function best in teams but theyre put in situations where theyre on their own#and they suffer because of it#but where wash had no choice in ending up w/o a team ct did#the ability to choose is a powerful tool. but being able to choose means that sometime somewhere someone will choose wrong#oh to further clarify the interpretation of ct I'm used to seeing is stereotypical hyper competent badass bitch type character#I've never really seen ct that way though tbh. she's a rebellious smart-ass who loves stating the obvious#it's honestly a pretty childish trait which i think goes well with her complex about being seen as a kid who needs excuses made for#her subpar performance in the field#basically in her head ct is james bond but in reality she's cringefail loser girl who wants to be a hero#you know what analyzing and discussing how heroism is viewed in rvb might be a pretty good essay#these colorful guys and gals aint heroes theyre all losers trying their best#anyway I'm off to attempt drawing a meta! tucker piece that may or may not turn out

Just saw a really good video talking about how the fandom tends to ignore the way that Jayce is clearly written with him being a brown Latino man in mind and talking about the inherent racism of people acting like a thing he helped to create is all actually the product of a white man and treating Jayce as a big dumb himbo is a take that is also the product of racism. Maybe we are finally healing
#my posts#🔨#🔨 golden hour#like i do think a lot of people kind of miss how like#jayce had to force his way into academia. he was expected to just do physical labor and make tools for his whole life#and hextech literally would not have existed without him#him being smart and working to create it is a central part of the story#and the way people are so quick to dismiss him and act like he's just a big goofy idiot is. odd!#it's a thing where fandoms are generally pretty good at noticing how class and capitalism can play into things#but they completely miss that race is another aspect central to who characters are and storytelling#the class aspect is definitely at the forefront of the show#but the complete dismissal of how jayce being a brown man does play a role in his character and who he is#to the point where people constantly debate if he's *really* brown or not#it just weird and gross#and i'm glad that people are actually talking about that now

Good students, on the other hand, constantly raise the bar for themselves
as they focus on what they haven’t learned and mastered yet. This is why high achievers who have had a taste of the vast amount of knowledge out there are likely to suffer from what psychologists call imposter syndrome, the feeling that you are not really up to the job, even though, of all people, they are (Clance and Imes 1978; Brems et al. 1994).

Imagine doing so much hard work and persevering through law school to have your failed tests advertised on the internet news. The bar is really hard; he’s not “cringe fail.” I am jealous of his ability to even attend college without committing suicide. He did a good job. Leave my dude the fuck alone.
I don’t care if they’re elites. If they’re elites; then make fun of them solely for being rich nepotism babies. There are non-elites who have failed the bar (or any important test) once or twice as well who will see this and feel bad about themselves.

#My uncle failed the bar I think three times before he passed and he’s a smart dude. It is extremely difficult#I respect anyone — even if they are an elite — who is capable and willing to put in that much mental work on anything#No one deserves to be ridiculed for moving past failure and trying again#That is a strength.#Or do we as a society only care about the “naturally smart” and “gifted?”#I’ve failed tests and retaken them before and so have you; should the internet ridicule us?#The SPED kids I work with very often don’t understand things the first the time around; should we ridicule them as well?#At what point do we stop judging people for their mistakes?#Also if the roles were reversed and the former princess took the bar three times; would you still say she were “cringe fail?”#or would you be too afraid of sounding “anti-feminist?”#Why? Is it because men are “supposed” to be smarter than women#and tasks that are “expected” from them would make a woman a “girlboss” for completing them?#or perhaps is it because we just don’t like men and think them creatures of lesser intellect worthy of our jeering and pet names?#Because I for one am androgynous and sick of the double standards. They help nobody#Don’t expect more from men than you do from women; don’t expect less from women than you do from men#That includes how one gender group speaks of and behaves around the other#It is the reason why a man feels he cannot physically fight a woman who is attacking him#because if he successfully defends himself he looks like an asshole; and if he fails he looks like a wimp#It is the reason women vastly underestimate and devalue their physical strength and resourcefulness as a tool#because men are the strong resourceful ones because it’s “in their biology”#Even though I am androgynous and would possibly love to be on testosterone#I don’t need testosterone or a man’s body to pull off great feats of strength and cunning and neither do you#Ladies! Build some determination: “I CAN do it and it WILL work because I fucking say so.”#Get angry. Mess your hair up. Break a nail. You are a durable physical beast put on this earth for more than looking pretty#You are meant to break a sweat. You are meant to do things that aren’t “ladylike” because women are STRONG. Physically#Men you are not less manly for enjoying housework; and ladies you are not less feminine for enjoying outdoor labor#Crush gender norms. Vive la résistance!

My English teacher very actively encourages the class to use AI to come up with ideas for our projects and assignments. My English teacher.. SIR! And the thing is that most people don’t question it? I’d say about 70% of my class (which to be fair is filled with your typical dumb jock stereotype of teenage boys) uses it to “think” of ideas. So anyways we’re doomed! Wdym you can’t figure out the character progression from beginning to end from our three page short story!!!
(so mad i can’t see straight) Yeah i just don’t think chat gpt is a good classroom tool
#at this point my brain melts out of my head everytime someone mentions using ai on their work#it’s so bad too… like it’s not as smart as those people think#but I suppose a dumb person would trust a dumb tool so

Ok but we need to have this discussion with the clear knowledge that the AI component is not what is making it join the meetings or gives it the ability to. Someone built a program and MADE it do that deliberately. AI does not actually mean intelligence or making decisions. This isnt „AI going rogue“ this is companies lying and misleading about their products, producing invasive programms, and having no regard for privacy or even laws.
At the California Institute of the Arts, it all started with a videoconference between the registrar’s office and a nonprofit.
One of the nonprofit’s representatives had enabled an AI note-taking tool from Read AI. At the end of the meeting, it emailed a summary to all attendees, said Allan Chen, the institute’s chief technology officer. They could have a copy of the notes, if they wanted — they just needed to create their own account.
Next thing Chen knew, Read AI’s bot had popped up inabout a dozen of his meetings over a one-week span. It was in one-on-one check-ins. Project meetings. “Everything.”
The spread “was very aggressive,” recalled Chen, who also serves as vice president for institute technology. And it “took us by surprise.”
The scenariounderscores a growing challenge for colleges: Tech adoption and experimentation among students, faculty, and staff — especially as it pertains to AI — are outpacing institutions’ governance of these technologies and may even violate their data-privacy and security policies.
That has been the case with note-taking tools from companies including Read AI, Otter.ai, and Fireflies.ai.They can integrate with platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teamsto provide live transcriptions, meeting summaries, audio and video recordings, and other services.
Higher-ed interest in these products isn’t surprising. For those bogged down with virtual rendezvouses, a tool that can ingest long, winding conversations and spit outkey takeaways and action items is alluring. These services can also aid people with disabilities, including those who are deaf.
But the tools can quickly propagate unchecked across a university. They can auto-join any virtual meetings on a user’s calendar — even if that person is not in attendance. And that’s a concern, administrators say, if it means third-party productsthat an institution hasn’t reviewedmay be capturing and analyzing personal information, proprietary material, or confidential communications.
“What keeps me up at night is the ability for individual users to do things that are very powerful, but they don’t realize what they’re doing,” Chen said. “You may not realize you’re opening a can of worms.“
The Chronicle documented both individual and universitywide instances of this trend. At Tidewater Community College, in Virginia, Heather Brown, an instructional designer, unwittingly gave Otter.ai’s tool access to her calendar, and it joined a Faculty Senate meeting she didn’t end up attending. “One of our [associate vice presidents] reached out to inform me,” she wrote in a message. “I was mortified!”
#like guys thats not how these ‚AI‘ work at all#and acting like its idk a smart evil AI thats doing this absolves the actual culprits#im sure theres various other products that have similar issues tbh#im sorry i know yall love being mad about AI but in this case this is actively a problem#acting like its the technology going rogue instead of careless at best design of the software#just because idk it sounds like it could be right#this use case is actually a very useful and harmless tool in itself and its being used badly#this debate is very that lemur is an airbender vibes

Got one of those activity tracker watches specifically for the sleep tracking function and its kinda loose (I got a metal band) but I thought it wouldn't be an issue. Well I slept for like 14 hours last night (think I had a mild fever, possibly some sleep debt) and its trying to tell me I slept for 6 and half and I've been up since 7 am. So. I'm gonna get my watch adjusted
#i tried a bit to do it myself but the specific band it uses is kind of a bitch to work with#especially if you have no proper tools or anything#so i pretty much got the clasp off and thats it#i do have to say i was pretty against the idea of having a watch like this#im pretty adamantly only interested in analog watches and clocks#but its not exactly a smart watch and ive only been connecting it to its app via bluetooth#to get the app updated on my sleep the previous night#so at least it works well for what i need it for#if all goes well with diagnosing my sleep stuff ill switch to analog pretty much right away#spiced
