Look For The Star

One foot in front of the other, red dust puffing up at each step. A harsh sun glaring down on the unforgiving world below, scouring away impurities. The toddler on her back – a fraction of the weight he should be, she knows – gone silent hours ago. She hopes he’s sleeping, not dead. The infant in her arms listless and dull-eyed but breathing.

The wanderer had told her of a settlement out here. A city, rebuilt from ashes and dust, run by a man with hair like flame and a temper to match, an iron rule over the city. A place where she could be safe, where no one would rip her children from her, where they would not be sold into slavery or taken for unspeakable uses that make her skin crawl to think of.

It is a bleak world, a harsh world, and a cruel world, now. The weak die or are preyed on. A city where a lone woman and her children can be safe sounds like a dream, a fantasy, a fading memory of days past. It is every manjack for himself out here, and predators survive while prey dies.

But the wanderer had promised. Had given her detailed directions. Maybe it was a prank. A cruel joke from the man brave and stupid enough to take on these trackless wastes alone. Send her and her children out to die in the desert, chasing an empty hope. But even an empty hope, a fool’s hope, was better than no hope, which is what she’d had before.

He had promised. Had told her to look for the black flag with the white star, had turned to show her the back of his jacket. Look for the star. He’s under the star. You’ll be safe there.

She squinted against the shimmering mirage waves over the sand and dirt. A dark blotch on the distant horizon. Right where the wanderer had said the city would be. Look for the star.

Another weary step. A small scour of dust on a rag-wrapped ankle. Another step. Another. Closer. Look for the star. Look for the black banner with the white star. Look for the star…

It’s kinda sad that Ren thinks he wants to join MCC but might not get in because there’s more players now and he hasn’t played in a long time 🥺 (False did suggest for him to sign up)

It’s even more so that someone like Ren— for fun, endlessly appreciative, just happy to be there, best cheerleader, optimistic— would contribute immensely to the current MCC landscape. Especially when H might take a break, so someone as loudly supportive as he is would be really nice. And MCC Reddit has realized that the balance between for fun / more competitive players has been OFF and we should probably try to fix it. Having Ren be back would inject some nice positivity into MCC.

(Although my personal concern is that Ren teams could be hard to balance considering his old teams consist of friends and hermits (+adjacent). Duos like Ren + False and Ren + Cub could be hard to balance now— we’ve been getting more “solo hermit” teams (sometimes with an Empires/Traffic person) and hermit duos like False + Cub tend to be balanced with an OP duo with a S tier. But then again I do think if all ten teams are less OP, it’ll all be okay.)

TLDR: Ren being back would be absolutely great for the MCC climate. Everyone’s been missing him and hallucinating his voice in SoT.

We Sail Together, no surprises there! I am surprised though that its spinoff Maiden's Voyage came out as my second-longest, it was not supposed to be that big and I still think it feels way too rushed for what it was trying to achieve, haha.

I can't really listen to music while I write. I almost always have an ambient mix of fireplace and rain sounds, or on rare occasion this SoT beach ambience. For writing-adjacent tasks and other projects I just flip on random spotify playlists, this year a lot of my WST soundtrack and @/whatthebodygraspsnot's Behind the Sea playlist!

The main mission behind this blog is to gather as much old, tumblr-based south park fanart as possible and give it a conventional, easily searchable home. While tumblr’s general search system may falter, or google may hide old blogs targeted by the faulty nsfw filters, this blog will be navigable by various tags. 

This blog was started on December 31st, 2021, starting out using the resources found on op’s old sideblog that has been collecting fanart since 2014. Many of these blogs are either no longer active, disabled, or were deleted by the mass banning in 2018 (sp fandom used to be full of p0//rn artists!), so the timestamps may not be accurate as some are no longer viable to pull from. Most posts are tagged directly by year (example, “2014″), while others may have a tag like "2014 or older”. This means that the post is at the maximum from 2014, but I don’t have an exact date, only the date I reblogged it. There are also some posts that were sourced and credited but were reposts (not posted by the original artist to tumblr) and those are tagged with “repost” and my best guess on the username of the original artist and the date.

(As a sidenote, even for archival purposes, I will not be posting any explicit nsfw to this blog to avoid any issues with tumblr’s flagging system. Any naughty-adjacent jokes will be tagged with “nsfw-ish”. There is also a tag “flashing gif” because there’s a couple of those for people who may have photosensitivity. There may also be art that has problematic elements, but anything too bad will be tagged as necessary.)

I tried to tag posts with both the artists current (or the last username they used before being disabled) username and a more recognizable username. Some may have been missed, so if you’re looking for someone specific, search the more recognizable name and then after finding it, plug the newer username into your search.

This blog is not just compiling old art, but art created recently in the sp tag. That way, we are creating the most comprehensive place to search for art, and once I’m done going through my old blog, it will have a good record all the way through the present. This way, in the future, if someone wants to look back at 2021 art, the resource is there!

ok tina recently sort of revised it and on her stream the other day was just talking about wanting to only team with people she’s really close with so that she feels less bad when she isn’t doing well or when she’s raging or getting upset in call. which like yeah i would feel uncomfortable like screaming about being mad in call with people i just met so i get her on wanting to only team with people she’s friends with!! anyways 2 me this would mean she’s open to teaming with like any of the munchymcers or their adjacent circle that she hangs out with. like tina stop writing down foosh and take up like punz or dream or ant on offers to team!! bc foosh only keeps getting better which means it’s going to get harder to balance him on decent teams. and also she brought up not really wanting to sign up any more SOMEONE TELL HER ITS NOT HER FAULT!!! A (critical) love letter to the Mint Maids!

Alright obviously I'm disappointed in how low the mint maids placed especially with all of the predictions putting them in 9th BUT regardless of their result they were SUCH a fun team...

This might be a very unpopular opinion but i really hope this sets a precedent for bringing back hermit-adjacent teams without a "carry", obviously some of the best players can be very sweet and encouraging such as pete, H, fruit and illumina, but false, ren (and co.) have proved time and time again that they are very capable - obviously this MCC wasn't the best example to show but there were some potential factors as to why they did not manage to overcome the expectations:

The maids were clearly not taking the competition aspect too seriously - martyn was promoting the charity (go donate!), not much strategy was discussed prior to each game. HITW also had a LOT of conversation even while some of the teammates were still alive.

The lack of practice - of course false had a mini practice stream the day prior but it seemed like the team had not planned out their mode of attack prior to the event and even though the team had great chemistry it seemed like most of the decisions that they made as a team were improvised/unplanned. False also MASSIVELY underperformed in HITW, the entire team in SOT, Grid Runners and Build Mart, False and Ren in TGTTOS - we've seen very strong showings from their past appearances and we know they're capable of more, even though they...

...lacked a clear leader! The leader doesn't necessarily have to be a top player, they just have to call the shots. We've seen glimpses of martyn and false showing great leadership in survival games and skybattle and that's what helped them survive and place as high as they did.

Martyn's weird monitor thing! Definitely a smaller factor as it only affected 1 of the 4

Thus, I am a firm believer that the mint maids could have done better IF they were in the right mindset to do so - from the point of view of competition, bantering about "wooo let's go 7th place pov" from the very start isn't that great, but yes obviously I love them for it. False and Ren generally struggle with confidence in MCC even if their company is very light-hearted anyway.

Someone on here made a great point about ren and false sacrificing their own individual pointage for the sake of the team which makes them fantastic team players and their low individual scores for this event are extremely misrepresentative of their value on the team. The only thing that was lacking was a working synergy with the rest of the team - in spite of everyone's great chemistry with each other, it's clear that they needed some practice as a team - Joel and Ren had never been paired in MCC before, Martyn had only teamed with FalseRen once. Refer to my lack of practice argument

Either way, it's super nice to see the senior mint maids in their prime, obviously I'm very happy to have chosen to watch them live as my POV of choice - it just was and is frustrating to see comments about them as if they had no chance at all to succeed just because they don't have fruit or pete "carrying" them. They came under 2000 points under the 8th-place team, and they obviously underperformed like hell. Team the hermits with scott and shubble maybe! Or kara and jordan! Martyn and joel 2.0! The possibilities are endless!

What team do you think Etho would have in a hypothetical Hermits + Hermit adjacents non canon MCC? I was thinking him, Bdubs, Doc, and I'm not sure who the 4th person could be, maybe another Hermit or someone like Pete or H. I vaguely remember Illumina saying something about watching Etho not too long ago as well. Etho would do well as a runner in SoT for sure, I feel he'd be able to figure out some of the rooms in GR too and he'd be a mess in any movement game which I'd love to see for the chaos factor. But he would have the added element of a lot of the other players looking up to him too in addition to the general pressure of performing well, people do say Etho is your favorite MCYT'S MCYT so I'd understand why he'd want to stay away from that. If he showed interest though I think Scott would put him on the waitlist in a heartbeat

personally i don't even care if they have a good player on their team i would simply KILL to see a full NHO team (beef, doc, etho, and bdubs). it'll literally be doc babysitting the whole time and being Extremely hypercompetitive and then the other 3 just messing around and not taking anything seriously. they will LOSE horribly and be an all around mess with a lot of screaming but idc i want it

So I was informed by CPS today that my pending-ex-husband is almost done with their requirements and that I need to be arranging supervised visitation. Well I've had B.A.C.A on the mind recently for no apparent reason and on the way home from court the other day I saw a billboard for them and, anyway, I've learned to listen to these quiet niggling little prompts and I reached out to them today to see if maybe they'll supervise the visitation and the one I'm talking to goes by Starman and honestly I'm about to choke on the irony.

suffice to say the premise of what i MEANT is as such:

i really like powers that require creativity to employ, so the vibe i have for Tia’s object transformation powers is that she has a big focus on hyper specialization. she CAN transform things without consuming or adapting herself to something around her (such as say, a wheel, a slice of cake, an airfryer or a sword), but doing so is awkward, difficult to do, and time consuming. while she COULD use her powers, while not equipped with anything door adjacent, to make a door in a wall, it’ll take a while and take a LOT out of her and its usually faster to just smash a hole in it.

much like Tia can impose mutations on herself and others as a basic aesthetic side effect of her powers, she can weaponize this against materials and transform them, but doing so deliberately has its problems. she can sort of get around this by focusing her powers so that for a while, she can EITHER transform things more freely, alter the substance or its strength (making something seemingly weak super strong, for instance) or alter what its made of, but she can’t do more than one during a limited time, and changing what she has ‘enabled’ requires time to do action that reinforce the idea of ‘making stuff’ for her powers.

so she can get around this by consuming materials and objects; this allows her to transform things and transform them into the sot of things she’s eaten, or give them new attributes based on what those things DO. For instance, if she’s eaten cake, she can turn things INTO cake, making a wall a lot easier to bust down. A wheel lets her turn things INTO wheels, or make things move around even if there’s no means for them to do so. A sword will made things edged, turn them into actual swords (even if made of weird materials, like grass or a big bug she found) or simply allow them to cut with a touch.

now, I think her actual limit for ‘equipping’ things she’s eaten is limitless. She can reflexively equip anything she’s eaten within a reasonable time frame (a few hours or a few days), though once she wants to unequip something, she consumes the power it gave her to give her a boost of strength, so she can become temporarily stronger in exchange for versatility.

However, once she equips something, she MUST apply it to her transformations. She can’t, normally, pick and choose what to apply, so that can end up with its own weird limits! (For instance, if food items have been equipped, they work great for debuffing enemies or navigating puzzles, not so much making something to fight an enemy.) In this situation, Tia must either use what she has as creatively as possible, or digest it in hopes of using the added power to overcome with brute force, but there’s no promise that’ll work or if its worse sacrificing some of the advantages she had

The demonstration of exchange bias switching in antiferromagnet/ferromagnet structure

The identification of effective methods to manipulate both magnetization and exchange bias in thin antiferromagnet/ferromagnet films could facilitate the development of new types of spintronic devices. Magnetization switching could be achieved by inducing a phenomenon called spin-orbit torque (SOT) in a heavy metal layer adjacent to these films. However, so far, this design strategy has proved difficult to combine with both exchange bias switching and tunneling magnetoresistance measurements.

Researchers at Beihang University in China, University of California- Los Angeles (UCLA) and other institutes in the U.S. have recently demonstrated current-induced exchange bias switching in an antiferromagnet/ferromagnet (IrMn/CoFeB) bilayer structure. They achieved this by generating a SOT in the structure's antiferromagnetic layer.

The researchers started investigating the potential of antiferromagnet/ferromagnet/oxide structures a few years ago. In a study published last year, they were able to achieve the field-free switching of a IrMn/CoFeb/MgO structure's perpendicular magnetization by generating a voltage-gated SOT with the aid of an an exchange bias field. Subsequently, drawing inspiration from a recent paper that reported the manipulation of exchange bias via the generation of SOT, they started to explore exchange bias switching in the same IrMn/CoFeb/MgO structure.

also about the mediocre thing: I dont think they are mediocre but rather that no twice track has made me fall in love with them, I do like some songs but that's it, I feel like after their cheer up promotions jyp was very smart and played all the right moves and got them even bigger, they are not mediocre but we all know jyp has a fucked up ear that has rejected THE iu and THE yuju which is now considered top3 best vocalists of the 3rd generation (along with eunji from apink and wendy from rv) and I dont think they have been necessarily giving them the songs that fit their voices the best, some of them are able to adapt better (nayeon) and some are not (ie: momo voice was too deep for some of her parts in more and more), at the end of the day it still sounds nice if you're not listening to the live locals, their choreography is okay but is more focused on going viral than anything lmao, it's not bad but you can definitely see the comeback their team opened their email box and found out about all the emails about onces having to defend themselves bc twice had easy choreographies and SOME members were still not doing okay vocally and then decided to turn up their difficultly level to catch up with the current trend among ggs at the time ON THE TOP OF making them a token gg (along bp) to white gays listen and like bc they werent cute like that anymore and were doing hard choreographies so they were # not like the other ggs and this only expanded twice fan numbers in western countries (I also think that the bigger a group is the more their fans get obsessed with them and stop caring about their song quality and only listen to them bc they're a fan not bc they truly enjoy the music anymore you know??
