My opinion on the GMMTV23 teasers

This is in order of which ones I'm more excited to watch.

BL/GL/Queer

For the queer ones I'll be watching everything, or at least give it a try, because all of them look promising.

23.5: this is all I've been waiting for, GMMTV finally doing GLs. I am beyond excited for it and the plot seems like a cute story, I can't wait to watch it.

Cherry Magic Thailand: I have too many thoughts on this so I wrote a separate post on it. Basically I'm equal parts scared and excited, and I'm dying to watch the trailer already.

Last Twilight: seems very interesting, I feel like this could be such a magnific series, and I trust Aof to do it. Jimmy and Sea seem very suited too. Looking forward to it.

Dangerous Romance: yesssss I love it, enemies to lovers and rich/poor, this is *chef kiss*. I was anxious about them getting Perth a role that doesn't suit him but this seems perfect.

Hidden Agenda: I don't care if it's too similar to 2gether, I could watch this trope again and again and not get bored. Even more if it's by JoongDunk who have amazing chemistry.

Our Skyy 2: I've seen a couple of episodes from the original Our Sky and it was pretty nice, just seeing a bit more from the couples without anything major happening. I'm interested in all the couples but especially PatPran because I will always miss Bad Buddy. I know some special episodes are bad but this is directed by Aof so I'm not worried.

Cooking Crush: I don't particularly like series that revolve around food and cooking but it's OffGun so of course I'm going to watch it. The scene where Off licks the sauce off Gun's hand is iconic already.

Only Friends: too messy for me, especially with no guaranteed happy endings, but my interest is picked.

A Boss and a Babe: the titles this year are bad but this one takes the crown, terrible. The boss/intern trope bores me, even more when the boss looks like he's 20 years old, but I'll still be watching because ForceBook deserves another chance. I'm still surprised this couple is not only still alive but they appear together in three trailers, more than any other couple.

Others

Midnight Museum: I like fantasy/magic and I like Gun so yes I'll be watching this 100%.

Find Yourself: yes, I find boss/subordinate stories boring, but only when the boss is male. Seems cute and it's always nice to have a main character who is older than 25.

Loneliness Society: I don't know if it's official but this is the exact same plot as a Sandra Bullock movie I saw a while ago. It was a bit weird but I enjoyed it so I'll be watching this one.

The Interest: It's a movie so it probably won't have an international release but if I could I would watch it only because Bright looks particularly hot in it.

Double Savage: I've been waiting for Perth roles with GMMTV and I like Ohm too. We don't have much of the plot yet, I hope it's a bit more than them fighting all the time.

Wednesday Club: yes I like some of the actors but it's a pass for me.

The Jungle: it took me hearing the word 'playboys' to know I won't like this one. Still, I'm half tempted to give it a shot because it's the only main role for Nanon this year.

There are four more series, two for Win and two for Dew. In my experience GMMTV het romances tend to be of worse quality than bls so if they don't have an actor who I particularly like or an interesting plot I'll probably won't be watching them. Maybe I'll watch the actual trailer when it's ready to see if my interest is picked but I doubt it.

Nov 2021 Wk 1

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.

Ongoing Series - Thai

My Mate Match (Line) Ep 4 - my darling queer babies, you’ll never guess what happened, we have representation of (drum roll please) CONSENT!!! This is very exciting. I am now firmly in camp Ryu. Second lead syndrome strikes again. 

Bite Me Ep 10 (Viki) - okay I don’t get what the drama was really about the last few eps but we seem to be right back in pre-ep 8 territory. Odd, but at least Aek admitted to his mom he’s into Aue. (Miss translation on some of that, by the way, he wasn’t saying he was into Aue the way he was into his mother (because, yech) he was saying he wanted to care for Aue as one would an intimate, kind of like “I want him to be my person, part of my family.” Anyway, this show could have ended here but I guess we still have two more episodes. What an oddly disappointing series this turned out to be. 

Bad Buddy (YouTube) Ep 2 -  Increasing disgust with the two friendship groups match with increasing delight in the main couple, excellent pacing and some classically GMMTV moments means it’s all good and I’m all good with it. I’m live blogging this here.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

My Sweet Dear (Korea - Viki) Ep 5-6 - seriously reminded itself, and the world, that it has the word sweet in its title. Multiple disjointed dates were had and they were fricking adorable. I’m nervous about the torture still to come with only 2 episodes left how will that be resolved? Or is this just gonna continue to stay soft and dramaless? Either way I’m finding it charming. 

My Type (Taiwan indie - hard to find but a kind soul is subbing it here) Ep 1 - It’s cute! Crash into me trope launches the relationship (of course, Taiwan LOVES this one) between a jock and a nerd. It’s gonna be 6 short episodes phone-filmed, reminds me a bit of Friend or Lover only better acted.  The same channel also has Love’s Outlet (which was originally supposed to have a BL sub plot, but I don’t think it ended up that way, and at 50 eps I can’t be bothered to check).

Vanishing My First Love AKA Kieta Hatsukoi (Japan - indie subbed) Ep 4 - Aoki is the biggest drama queen disaster bi to end all disaster bis, Bizilla! He’s a gift we do not deserve but will definitely make use of. Plus I think we can pretty solidly say Ida is repping for ace spectrum. Did I cry a bit over Aida/Akkun figuring out what he’d done wrong? OMG yes, I’m a sap remember? (as well as disaster bi trash panda) And now Aoki has a VERY enthusiastic wingman and a field trip trope to deal with. There’s a best boy AND a best girl. This show keeps getting better. 

In Case You Missed It - The Thai Edition 

NilunDon Ep 0 was supposed to drop Sunday Oct 31. It was on Gaga for a red hot minute and then vanished. No one knows what’s up. 

2Gether The Movie was supposed to have released into Thai theaters on Nov 4. Did this happen? We don’t know but there’s a trailer. It looks like more of the same. Give the people what they want, I guess?  

Love With Benefits Ep1 was supposed to start Monday on Line TV but wasn’t global facing. @heretherebedork​ reports it’s on a 2 week delay for international audiences, so should be dropping Nov 17th on the DV8 Thailand YouTube channel, sub them to follow. This seems to be My Mate Match Mock 2 only with Gameplay (Ingredients) in the middle. I’m game but confused.

You’re My Sky got a second teaser video and is listed as coming January 2022 to one31 & WeTV. 

Don’t Say No dropped a special episode via pay-per-view on the Vimeo website. Ya’all know my ass isn’t gonna bother. 

KinnPorsche did a press conference and got a release date of April 2022. It looks like Gameplay is out, but Jeff (Ingredients), Tong (Second Chance, TharnType) and Perth (My Engineer) are still in. 

Gaga International picked up distribution of Pops TV’s Paint with Love (Nov 26). 

Wabi Sabi dropped a teaser for Absolute Zero. One of those that has been in the works for absolute ages. Trailer says “coming soon” but no date or distributor. This is a “time loop to prevent tragedy” romance. We don’t always get HEAs from this studio, so be on your guard.

Mini snippets dropped on Twitter for Between Us (coming 2022) and a special released to Wabi Sabi’s paid YouTube channel but should be public next week. I expect Tumblr gif wizards to blow up over it once that happens.

GOSSIP - there’s A LOT (it’s that time of year)  

New Thai BLs incoming. Announcements/rumors are gonna start to ramp up now we are at the end of the year. Remember last year? We had over 20 Thai BLs that were announced for 2021 and never happened. So be very wary wittle wabbits. 

GMMTV 2022

There are wild rumors about TayNew (the Kiss series) doing a new BL. 

Also rumors of EarthMix (1000 Stars) getting another BL novel adaption. 

Joong Archen (2 Moons 2) has apparently signed with GMMTV (didn’t I SAY they should gun for J9 like years ago?) and is rumored to star in the novel adaption of Engineer Cute Boys by Jittirain (2gether).

Presumably, we’ll learn more if GMMTV does their usual massive 2022 line up announcements. Though they might not this time, since they failed spectacularly to live up to 2021’s promises (for good reason). 

NOT GMMTV 2022

MaxTul rumored to have a new 2022 project. We can but hope. I honestly thought these boys were done with BL. But apparently Kings gotta hold onto the throne. Can’t let OffGun or BoomPeak win. But as Slipper & the Rose once said, 

“Absolute monarchs should rule absolutely, it’s very becoming.”

Remember 15 - stars Jimmy, Tommy, Zee (Why R U?) in a 12 episode horror series that has promo shots for only het couples but is rumored to have BL & GL 

Past-senger AKA Pastsenger - stars Marc (My Gear & Your Gown) and Copper (My Engineer) in a time slip story (90s kid travels to 2022) that seems a lot like a couple Kdrama’s I’ve watched only BL, so that’s cool.

Chains of Heart - suspense thriller about a forest ranger, illegal smugglers, memory loss, and secret love. Stars Haii (Cirrus in TT2) and Poppy (Porpla in YYY). 

Mame has a new project for MeMindY called มายากาล.

Gossip 2 - Outside of Thailand 

Taiwan has 2 new projects rumored for CHOCO TV from the producers of HIStory 2&3. Neither has an MDL listing last I checked, but it’s Taiwan so I’m too excited not to talk about it:

I Secretly Fell in Love with Student Council President (let the dumb titles continue, why mess with success?) - is this a remake of Light on Me? 

God's Military Officer (now THIS sounds interesting) 

Also they are supposed to be bringing us WBL Boys’ Vacation. Yes, that is the We Best Love franchise. I guess it’s a franchise now? Anygay, the whole cast seems to be back for it. Ah cha cha. 

Money Boys is a BL movie coming Nov 19 to Taiwanese cinemas. 

New Korean BL rumored for 2022 called Cherry Blossoms After Winter - high school set, cohabitation, hurt comfort + friends to lovers, their answer to Love Sick? Looks good. (Or is this the honest adaptation of At A Distance Spring is Green that we all were hoping for?) 

Viki also announced a new K-BL, Tinted With You, starting Dec 22 (by my calculations). No other info on this one but you can follow it on Viki.  

My darlings at Strongberry are looking for corporate sponsors to make us a full length K-BL series. FULL LENGH SERIES! OH PLEASE OHPLEASE. If they promised a GL subplot do you think we could convince Subaru to do it?

Speaking of the Japanese... 

What Did You Eat Yesterday the movie is releasing to Japanese cinemas but it looks like it’s not getting international distribution. 

Japan is giving us an mpreg: Hiyama Kentaro no Ninshin. Not BL, it’s a het couple. It seems legit, not a joke. So... there’s that.

Who was it that once said? 

“the universe is not only queerer then we expect but queerer than we can possibly imagine” 

Anygay, they were probably talking about Japanese cinema.

Aof Noppharnach Chaiwimol

The director and screenwriter of A Tale of Thousand Stars

P'Aof has been making content for GMMTV as early as 2017 with My Dear Loser as a screenwriter. He is best known for directorial work in creating some of the best queer content.

Some of those work includes: He's Coming To Me (2019), Dark Blue Kiss (2019), Still 2gether (2020), A Tale of Thousand Stars (2021), Bad Buddy (2022)

P.S My thoughts are rather haphazard sooo yeah! These are just some stray thoughts.

The stories P'Aof works with are are always very interesting. Are these stories flawless? Absolutely not, as much as I love ATOTS I can still poke holes in it. With all the flaws and all I do love atots if it wasn't obvious already.

According to P’Aof, he wanted to make ATOTS into a series since he read the novel in 2016/17. So technically this show had been in the making for a long time. They aired their first teaser back in 2019 but before they could start shooting you know what happened and everything shut down. Even after starting the shoot there were lots of obstacle like changing location, building an entire set (Tian’s house, the school) from scratch, nature, climbing cliffs with all their shooting equipment.

They faced a lot to make this show, and there were some fandom lores tidbits that was quite interesting (someone should make another post about the making of ATOTS!!!)

Watching P'Aof's shows I have always felt like I am watching a story unfold about two people instead of a typical BL (IDK if that makes sense!). The focus on emotions is another reason what makes his shows so great.

Shows like ATOTS, Bad Buddy has quite a grip on people. How many of us are still mentally living in Pha Pun Dao? Or in the rooftop of PatPran’s building?

With ATOTS I got introduced to more of P'Aof's works. After having watched most of the shows he created, I appreciate the craft and the craftsman's effort in making his shows better than the last one.

P’Aof also has a knack for doing cameos. If you are watching ATOTS right now, keep your eyes on episode 5 👀

Personally, I think P'Aof is a fan of thorathat (I have no way of proving this excerpt for what I have observed LOL). He loves the drama in his shows. Bad Buddy with family feud, ATOTS with heart transplant = love connection (but not really).

But none of them come close to what he did with Dark Blue Kiss. To this day DBK has the most dramatic opening I have seen in a BL (even if you haven't seen the drama check out the opening credits)

Maybe it's P'Aof’s flare for the dramatics that gives me hope for his next project (hopefully coming out this year!!! 🤞) Moonlight Chicken, starring EarthMix. While the theme or the title of the show is not that popular, I am looking forward to watching it.

❣️ Cutie Pie - loving it so far!! The production quality is top-tier, which I did not expect. The filming + editing is really nice too and not the mention the cast is 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻. Kuea is an interesting little fella lol and Zee as Lian is just hitting the nail on the head lmao. Their dynamic is interesting (albeit a bit inconclusive) and I’m also curious to see how Diao and Yi’s relationship will develop since I’m still in the dark about what’s going on between them lol. Vice Versa Ep 1

Part 1

(Forgot that I want to do live reaction for this series during part 1, so this is my overall thoughts on part 1)

_They did a good job establishing the character Talay here. We were shown he was someone who is a workaholic and earnest in his passion as a colorist

- Thank youuuu for not making the star an asshole. I dont know why but I was dreading that moment in the toilet. I was really expecting Puen to be an asshole but it was nice to see that Puen is somewhat chill kind of guy.

-But seriously stop it with the slow mo when Puen walks in. It did not work.

- I somehow feel a bit sad when we were introduced to Puen early on. Because I would appreciate the mystery of the real identity of who is in Tun's body, introduced before in the teaser trailer but, oh well, it is still too early for me to say any judgement abou the plot.

- The scene in the hospital did well in introducing how Tess' relationship is with his parents.

Part 2

- what's google? I only know qooqle

- what a nice house, Tess.

- FORCEBOOK!!!!! Hahahahaha not expecting that cameo

- That 2gether line. Iconic enough that it is worthy of becoming a password. (Despite we never getting it)

-Btw, the series is beautiful. And the parallel universe really did give some kind of fantasy feeling.

Part 3

- Yeah, Talay, you are so fucked if what the show has shown Tess' personality to be true

- Oh yeah, exposition time. But, it is telling that Talay got something happened to him before that got him so obsessed with his work. Like man want to go back to his universe not because of the people there, but, the work.

-They really dont want me to move on from bad buddy eh? Why that picture eh? Whyyyy????

- so, tun and tess are not exactly friendly eh?

1. Your all time favourite BL and why?

I told sunset about you

Everything about it. It does everything right. The script, the directing and the acting, it's all on point and makes this whole show special to such degree that you just can't get over its story. Everytime I go back, I know why I love it so much. Everytime I think about it, I want to cry. Because I told sunset about you is so beautiful it hurts and the nostalgia coming along with it is overbearing.

What I loved most is the cinematography because there are so many details to discover. The scenery often says what's not spoken alound, so the audience always understands the emotional conflict without being told. Every show and movie that works like this is good when it comes to carrying the atmosphere. But it's not only the composure of the scenery, it's the story, the characters and the acting. Teh and Oh-aew are pretty complexe characters and even though they are introduced as being nearly the same person when it comes to goals and choices, you more and more get how much they are actually not alike and rather complete each other than being the same. So, their lovestory makes sense, nearly feels like destiny and Billkin and PP portray them in a very lovely way.

Yeah, I LOVE this show but only ITSAY deserves my whole heart. IPYTM didn't pull me off my feet at all and it didn't even get close to anything ITSAY-related, in my opinion.

2. The one BL that scared you for life

Tonhon Chonlatee because how badly can you mess up?! It was scary how quickly things crashed down because it started of at being ok and went down the hill completely. Tonhon was the worst character. He was homophobic and everytime he made Chonlatee uncomfortable or me in front of the screen wanting to vomit, was explained with him actually liking Chonlatee in secret? Sorry, but I didn't buy it. He was a disgusting and horrible person, made everyone scared to show they're gay and didn't ever see his faults. Yeah, this show scared me because it was toxic and went down the hill so fast and so deep that I couldn't even realize what happened.

3. Is there any BL that made you feel very single?

Gameboys because they deeply care in a different way than friends do and when watching I craved for something like that.

It actually felt like true love and even though they only knew each other via screen mostly, their bond was so strong and it made me feel a bit lonely and yes, very single.

4. If you could change one thing from a BL, which one would it be?

The non-existent relationship in 2gether. This sounds a bit harsh and their relationship wasn't non-existent but it wasn't show that much either. Sarawat flirted a bunch of times and they said they love each other and it was all pretty wholesome but at some point, I really wondered if they even moved to the next level. Tine stayed shy around Sarawat the whole time, they never kissed except at the very end and I wished for a bit more than flirting only. There wasn't even much physical contact. They looked just like close friends to be honest. If they didn't want to insert many kisses, that's fine, but they hugged for like one time and never held hands. For me, their relationship was a bit unbelievable.

5. That one BL you detest

Theory of love looks like something I wouldn't like but I haven't seen it, so we stick with TharnType - especially season 2.

I still don't know why I watched this til the end without skipping. My internet was too bad to skip but boy it was hell to endure. Season 1 was a guilty pleasure but season 2 messed up in so many ways, I can't count. Everything went down the hill and the only thing keeping it alive was MewGulf's real chemistry because not even TharnType had good chemistry but at least the actors were comfortable with each other, so it looked okay between them. But oh boy, this show was terrible. Terrible writing, terrible directing and partly terrible actors. The whole concept was bizarre and dumb. I felt like my IQ dropped from watching because of all this inconsistency.

7. That trashy BL you lowkey like

History 4: close to you even though it had many problems. I managed to look past them and quite enjoyed it then but the second the final was over I started laughing at myself in surprise how I could've looked past every wrong thing they did. But I did it and enjoyed the good moments, let the bad ones wash over me.

8. Your favourite korean BL

Light on me because it had all the fluff and complexe characters. The love triangle was written in a realistic way and everything about this show was right. The side characters had proper screentime and I cared for them all. Some choices were a bit frustrating but they were teenagers and teenagers just act stupid sometimes. The accuracy of the life of teenagers hit way too close to my life, to my school.

9. Season 2? Which one?

Definetly Gaya sa pelikula. There are so many things left unsaid and so much Karl needs to discover.

10. A bunch of BLs will air soon, which are you the most excited about?

Probably KinnPorsche. The teaser looked so epic and it's a lovestory with a bodyguard which always catches my eyes. Don't know when it will air but I hope soon and I'm afraid I am too excited... but well, it can only be better than golden blood because that one was something else.

Gosh Kavin will really be the death of me, and Thyme was so soft when he's with Gorya at the rooftop. And now I can't wait for F4. I'm hoping for the HUGE success, please bright and win are so excited:"

And about no teaser for 2gether special ep/season I'm okay too. I have a feeling they will not announce it today so... yeah that's okay, we just have to wait a little longer.

F4?? What to say? Lol.. I guess I am slowly getting okay with it. Definitely NOT OK with the plot but bcuz Brightwin r there, i am gonna watch just to support our babies. They have worked so hard and they knew that this role can land them to biggies. I am scared too for them as many ppl r still not on board with it bcuz of the plot and it can become a total fiasco. I dont want that for Brightwin. So keeping my fingers crossed here.

2gether teaser?? I am so so disappointed. I was hoping that gmm would release it in the end. U know keeping the best for the last but sadly we didn't get it. But Brightwin themselves said that we r gonna get it so i am hopeful that we will get it. (Please, Lord, don't make me wrong here) .

About the series that i am excited for are Bad Buddy the series. Definitely gonna watch that one. It is a typical bollywood(indian film industry) style series. Plus the leads r so cute.

Another series that i am waiting is Enchante. It looks cute. Plus seeing Mork from Dark blue kiss after such a long time just made me happy 😊

The rest are kinda meh!!! At least for me

Hi,

Year 2020 in many ways introduced the World of BL to the global fans. I'm not saying prior to that BL didn't exist,...but the audience consuming the content were pretty lesser in number, and also a pretty niche audience for a sub-genre that was yet to grow.

In fact,...the success of many mediocre BLs like "TharnType" and "2gether" can be attributed to pandemic, lest they wouldn't have garnered the kind of attention they got. "TharnType" despite coming from an independent production company, survived and thrived because of it's raunchy content, and "2gether" because it was a product of GMMTV.

The point I'm trying to make is,...that when a BL series is announced, most of the time the project goes on floor, either immediately after the auditions are done, and the actors are selected. OR. They release the teaser to attract the attention of not just the audience, but the sponsors as well, and the BL is aired in a near or distant future.

I believe, most of the BLs that were aired in the year 2020, were shot in the year 2019. That's the reason, in the second-half of 2020, not much BLs were aired, barring a few from well-known production companies like GMMTV. 2021 was pretty good, in terms of the quantity of BLs being churned out by various production companies. While some of it got delayed, many of it got cancelled too.

Now,...when a BL series has created an impact in the minds of the audience, through social-media (either because of it's storyline, or because of the cast chosen) or because of some other controversy related to the series,...there is a 100% possibility that almost everyone awaits with bated breath for it to happen. Eg: "KinnPorsche" The Series., And, when a BL series is announced by a big production company like GMMTV,...no matter the delay,...it will happen for sure. Eg: "A Tale Of Thousand Stars".

Having said that,...there have been some BL series, especially from independent production companies, that just got cancelled or abandoned for reasons left for the audience to speculate. Neither the makers, nor the Authors ever came forward to clarify as to what exactly happened with the project, which is very upsetting, since it feels like they played with the audience emotions. And I'm not exaggerating here, because there are BL audience that connect themselves emotionally with a story or a character, and certainly look forward with expectation for a BL to happen if it's announced long back. Eg: "Triage" The Series.

Similarly,...I was really excited for "Motorcycle" The Series, because I really like one of the main lead, who apparently played P'Pha in "Gen Y" The Series, Season-2. But it's been two years, and there's no official announcement regarding this series. The other BL series that I have been forever waiting for is "Sexfriends" The Series. But it was cancelled too citing financial problems to be one of the main reason. Honestly,...I haven't read any novel of these BL series. In fact, I'm not even sure if it's based on a novel, or it's a freshly written story for the purpose of making it a series.

There are apparently tons of Thai BL series that never saw the light of the day after it was announced.

So,...my question to you is,...

If makers are unsure whether a BL series will happen or otherwise, why do they announce it in first place?

BL isn't a sub-genre anymore, but it still has a long way to go in comparison to the main Entertainment industry. Keeping that in mind,...what are the necessary ingredients for the success of a BL series? [Here I'm asking from the standpoint of a maker of the BL. As in what is required prior to announcing a BL series?]

Will the whole concept of BL series adapted from a novel change in the future? [Which means,...will independent filmmakers dare make a BL which isn't based on a novel?]

Apart from differences of opinions between the maker(s) & the author(s), financial issues, or casting problems. What are the other reasons for delay or complete abandonment of a project? ["Motive Village" can be a prime example in this regard with respect to "2 Moons 3".]

well, quick for me.

Ah Motorcycle, when was that one announced? 2019? Flipping heck. 

1. If makers are unsure whether a BL series will happen or otherwise, why do they announce it in first place?

Thai trailers are usually fund raising mechanism to get interest from backers, sponsors, and distributors. That’s why they work they way they do. They aren’t really for fans at all, except that fan excitement puts pressure on backers. The majority of the Thai studio system seems based on this. (Not GMMTV, of course but...) 

They simply don’t use trailers the way we do. In Thailand a trailer is more like a pitch proposal. 

2. BL isn't a sub-genre anymore, but it still has a long way to go in comparison to the main Entertainment industry. Keeping that in mind,...what are the necessary ingredients for the success of a BL series? [Here I'm asking from the standpoint of a maker of the BL. As in what is required prior to announcing a BL series?]

Depends on the country. 

Korea’s BL formula seems to be: 

(1 short idol X 1 tall actor) + 1 established director / Kdrama length = mildly successful

roll for chemistry 

+20 on chemistry? = hugely successful 

-10 damage for difficult script 

extra idol = +10 charisma points 

actor has done BL before? roll for additional hits

Hey now, I think I’m HILARIOUS.

Look this is a bit like asking why some Hollywood tent polls are successful and others just aren’t. Tent polls are all pretty darn formulaic (e.g. Marvel) but also difficult to get right (e.g. DC). You can have everything on point from cast to funding to (even) script and it’ll still flop. And then something comparatively low budget and market challenged (for high heat/language/violence reasons) like Daredevil, is a runaway hit.

Film is art and art in unpredictable. 

Like anything else my best take is that it would be difficult to fail with: 

good cast, 

decent directing, 

solid script, 

high production values.

But I wouldn’t put it past them, or the fans.  

As Hollywood, let alone GMMTV, is constantly proving to us the above 4 step formula is damn near impossible to get right. (Mostly because BL always forgets about #3.)

Thailand is running out of y-novels, hence the rise of the pulps. 

Either they gotta go original (like My Ride) or they are going to need to pull from other country’s traditions (e.g. Love Stage, Meow). Probubly mostly Japan. Japan is rolling in two decades of yaoi. They go nothing but content they aren't using. 

Otherwise i really have no idea what Thailand is going to do. I mean I know what I would do. A shit ton of classic stories (like Bad Buddy did Romeo and Juliet) just gay (and BLed). That seems easiest. No IP to shell out for. 

No matter what, we are entering a really interesting stage for Thai BL, especially with Korea’s intent to dominate.

There’s My Engineer 2 to consider too. 

I honestly don’t know. I can guess mostly lack of funding. But the root question is to why aren't they managing to raise interest from backers and sponsors? That’s pure speculation. 

Unwillingness of talent (or talent reps) to work with a company with a bad reputation (black balling). In the case of places like Motive, this kind of thing is usually an indication of chronic mismanagement on a business level, but it could also indicate corruption, abuse or power, and/or extremely difficult personalities (usually top down). 

Never discount the manifold ability of the people in power to monumentally fuck up. A lot of people, especially in the entertainment industry, are straight up bad at their jobs. (And I use the word straight intentionally.) Or have been given responsibility for some aspect of production for which they are neither qualified nor naturally talented. 

A director, for example, my be a VERY good director, but an absolutely GHASTLY project manager or fundraiser.
