This is the positive effect of BL and GL series.

Although there are many factors involved. I'd like to think and believe that BL and GL series played a significant role in normalising and showing just how beautiful same sex relationships can be. Also, it cannot be a coincidence that these two asian countries that moved towards this step happen to be two of the biggest producers of BL and GL series.

And now, Thailand is moving towards becoming the second (or third since Nepal has recognized some same-sex marriages in 2023 and 2024 under an interim order from the Supreme Court while a final judgment is forthcoming so depending on when each countries' final judgement is taken) asian country and first south east asian country to legalise same sex marriage.

Something I see a lot in QL fandoms is the argument "It's so unrealistic for the whole friend group to be queer" and I always think it's so funny because as a queer person all the friends I've ever had have been queer... and all my siblings, and the majority of my cousins (I have a lot), and all my siblings' friends -- to put it simply, I barely know any straight people

So whenever I see a post like that I always think babes, that's the most realistic thing about this show

Can you recommend someone who does for GL what you do for BL? I'm starting to get into it a little and even though it seems microscopic by comparison, I'd love to have more historical / cultural context (and ratings & recommendations!).

Hey where do you watch your gls?? I've been trying to get into more gls and I can't find good ones anywhere 🥲🥲🥲

this is actually a good question!! i've struggled with it and i still do.

the first things i've watched were baihe short films and dramas translated by @douqi7s (she has links in her pinned post). they are very short but many of them are very good and i'm just a big fan of the genre at this point. some of my personal favorites are 'the physician and the rabbit spirit', 'ye-mu 2', 'a practical guide to being a superstar's assistant' and 'legend of yunze'. the last one is one of the most famous translated baihe dramas and it's amazing and has three seasons and you can find it on youtube easily.

i am generally very dependent on things that are on youtube and fortunately there are a lot of them!! when i just started, i just googled lists of asian gl titles and tried to find them on youtube. i found most of them officially published there and then i went down the rabbit hole of recommendations. among amazing things i've found because of the recommendations is dear lover - one of my favorite gl short films. other things that i really loved there are girlfriend project day 1 (especially the MV - such strong life is strange vibes), pearl next door, lily fever, more than or equal to 75 celsius and dear uranus. and there are so much more - i have whole playlists of gl dramas and short films in different languages (and in english, too) that i have yet to watch.

i just recommend you to pick any country and try to look up if there is any gl content from there and then try finding it on youtube. gl isn't a huge genre unfortunately and you kinda need to leave no stone unturned to find stuff and be content with short form and small budget. but it pays off! there are gems out there

soooo i decided to make us a little community server. i love my little private group so much and i've recently met so many more amazing people it just kind of made sense to make something a little more public. i totally understand not everyone likes being in servers, may be shy, etc. but it's here for anyone that may want to hang out!
