My main issue with Angelus as the Big Bad is that he was built up as one of the worst, scariest, most sadistic vampires in history and this whole Buffy and Drusilla parallel was set up with the way he stalked Drusilla and killed everyone she loved only for him to do stuff like... use his invite to Willow’s house to kill Willow’s fish, and use his access to Buffy’s house to leave her handdrawn portraits instead of trying to kill Joyce or attack Buffy in her sleep, and only go after Jenny Calendar when she found a way to re-ensoul him.
So: imagine if Angelus did start to go after Buffy’s loved ones and managed to kill at least one person, Imagine if Buffy and Joyce and the Scoobies had that to deal with when a re-ensouled Angel came back in season 3 (Giles was already dealing with that in canon because Angelus killed Jenny, but i wonder if Buffy.would have reacted differently to him in season 3 if it had been someone she was closer to and didn’t have mixed feelings about, considering she partially blamed Jenny for Angel losing his soul in the first place).
Basically what i’m thinking is: AU where Angelus kills Hank Summers
sorry for speaking my truth it will happen again. i think my main issue with valax’s redemption arc is literally just that there’s never a moment where the mc gets to actually talk to her about what she did—there’s not really a cathartic conversation, so valax and mc moving past what she did to them feels less like forgiveness and redemption and more like an agreement to ignore the elephant in the room
like sure we got to talk about our trauma (in chapter 17 of 20. lol. lmao, even) to the party, but valax wasn’t present for that?? and like, sure, she says once that she is sorry “for the pain she caused [them]”, but there’s a difference Tew Me between “sorry for hurting you ig ✌️😗” and actually being like “yeah, i abducted you and forced you into a magically induced coma and stole your blood and robbed you of a full year of your life and repeatedly tried to murder you, to say nothing of the grief i caused your loved ones. i did all that shit and i’m sorry for it and deeply regret it, and i acknowledge that you don’t owe me forgiveness, but i will spend the rest of my life working to build a better world for my people instead of being my mother’s pawn”, and a difference between “my mother is unhappy with me for saving you :(” and actually like, giving the mc space to talk about the impact of her actions towards them. like girl you are not getting out of this shit with one sentence’s worth of apology and a sex scene lmfao!!!
during the first half or so of the book the focus for mc is not falling the fuck apart bc they have a friend group to tentatively piece together and they’re averse to showing fear in front of valax, so they’re repressing all their trauma—and by the time valax joins the party, the narrative has gone full Valax Cool And Good mode, and fully allows you to flirt with her and tease her and generally stops taking her seriously as an antagonist. which would be all fine and good if we had actually at any point gotten to be like, “hey, you abducting me and keeping me in a magically induced coma and stealing my blood and trying to kill me has actually caused me a lot of lasting fear and pain,” followed by some set of choices wrt forgiving or not forgiving her for all that in light of the revelation that she did all that shit bc her mom tortured and brainwashed her
like why are my friends more pissed off about the time this bitch abducted me and did evil little experiments on me than i am. free valax she did all that shit bc of her mommy issues but i should’ve gotten to call her a cunt just once. pb stop making all your mcs generals in the idgaf war challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
I already know I'm gonna be obsessed with falin's subversive version of haunting the narrative. as soon as I figure out what she has going on, I'm gonna be insane about it.
All of the Fails have swallowed a clock at some point in their lives. This causes them to wake up at the same time every day. Unfortunately, none of them were set to the same time, so Marietta had to make a schedule to keep track of when the kids wake up.
imagine you nepo baby your way into starring in an adaptation where you were horribly miscast because you really want an oscar and in the process reveal not only that the original work is 1. bad, 2. not as gay as everyone had thought (and that you might suck a little) and then not 3 years later your former costar stars in the critical darling of the year and maybe becomes an oscar contender by being gay for pay
I feel like s3 will be the last season of TSITP, since each season would showcase a perspective from each person from the love triangle (s1 being focused around Belly, s2 having a Jeremiah POV episode, and s3 having a Conrad POV episode). I also feel like Jenny is the type of writer who believes in the Rule of Three (the principle that a trio of entities is more satisfying and effective compared to other numbers), considering her consistent use of the trilogy format (ie. TATBILB trilogy and TSITP books).
Since s3 has ten episodes (two more than s2), I predict that the series’ resolution will start with Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding getting called off in episode 8. Then episode 9 focuses on Belly in her study abroad, Conrad and Jeremiah reconnecting, and Conrad sending his letters to Belly. Finally, episode 10 shows Belly returning home, Belly and the Fisher brothers’ reconciliation, and the Bonrad wedding. While this sounds like a lot of story, the current average episode length for the show is 39-59 minutes and a lot can be resolved within an hour depending on how the episode is structured. And even though an additional season sounds like it can cover these plot points better, there’s a chance that having an extra season could drag on these storylines whereas placing these storylines in the final 3 episodes would allow the resolution to be told in a more condensed and effective way.
i agree with how the pov structure and jenny’s storytelling suggests ending with the third season but i still think it’ll feel rushed, belly and conrad deserve more time to get to their endgame, belly deserves more time to show her growth, and there are way more side characters than the books that deserve their story to be concluded — steven/taylor, jeremiah, laurel
also at the end of the day, all these streaming services care about is money so if they milk this show for as long as they can, they will 😂
telling someone ive been listening to jenny from thebes on repeat for a week and they're like "so you've been feeling hopeless and actively spiralling all week" and it's like. what. no. ive been contemplative and comforted all week. what are you talking about
me when I see a post I disagree with on tumblr dot com but I don’t wanna reblog it because it’s really just someone expressing their opinion and it’s years old anyway
[ID: A version of the man at a party “they don’t know” meme. It reads:
“They don’t know Spectre in the movie was already a merger between the place that had no name, a purgatory-like place just outside of Ashland, and the town of Specter, a cute town Edward buys just for the hell of it, and also that the story of the witch is a merger of the old lady with the glass eye and Jenny Hill, the girl who lives in a swamp and acts strange and crazy and mysterious after Edward leaves her with a broken heart, so that’s why they’re the same person in the movie. And also that John August wrote the book to the musical too and Daniel Wallace approved of his adaptations for both movie and musical.” End ID]
