New Submission Guidelines for Curated Newsletters
Welcome to Curated Newsletter on Medium, where the future of writing is crafted now with guidance and collaboration Dear Readers and Writers, In August 2024, I made the difficult decision to close ILLUMINATION-Curated, a publication that has been near and dear to my heart. It was a moment filled with mixed emotions — tears not just of sadness for what we were leaving behind but also of joy for…

Happy Fall 2023!
Some news from The Crafty Fox Editing Services! 🍁🎃
Hey Story Crafters,
Happy fall! It’s been a while, so I wanted to send an update about recent and upcoming events. 🙂
I recently attended the ACES Virtual Conference, and in addition to getting inspired by sessions led by amazing fellow editors (many of whom you can find in the ACES directory), I was happy to hear some writing insights from R. L. Stine, one of the keynote speakers. As you can imagine, he was a seasonally-appropriate choice for a keynote speaker. 👻
I found it fascinating to hear that his writing process, to this day, is to write a detailed outline from start to finish, and then write the entire manuscript based on that outline. Another interesting tidbit about his writing process is that he comes up with the title before he starts writing the outline—so he actually writes a manuscript from start to finish, starting from the title.
I agree there are some benefits of having an outline beforehand, though I doubt my outlines are as detailed as R. L. Stine’s. Unlike R. L. Stine, I come up with titles after I’m done writing. And even then, it’s a struggle for me.
Upcoming Event: #10Queries Mini-Event with Revise & Resub (#RevPit)
I was invited to participate in a mini-event this month called #10Queries, hosted by Revise & Resub (known as @ReviseResub/#RevPit on Twitter/X). For those unfamiliar with Revise & Resub:
Revise & Resub (#RevPit) is a Twitter writing community co-founded in 2017 by a group of editors. It supports authors by offering editing-focused chats and mini-events throughout the year as well as an annual contest wherein querying authors can win feedback and edits on their full manuscripts from professional editors, ensuring their works are polished and ready for agent inboxes. Source: https://www.reviseresub.com/
In addition to their annual event, the #10Queries mini-event is held twice a year:
#10Queries: In this event, writers will enter their names in a random drawing via Rafflecopter. If they are selected, their query and first five pages will be randomly assigned to an editor who will then tweet about the submission using #10Queries. Winners will not know which editor received their submissions until after the #10Queries tweets have been posted. Tweets will consist of brief feedback based on the editors' first impressions of the winners' queries and first five pages. Source: Revise & Resub #10Queries post: https://reviseresub.com/mini-events/january-2023-10queries
This month’s #10Queries will be hosted on Reddit (event details to come). However, the general guidelines and proceedings for the event are the same. You can learn more about past #10Queries on the Revise & Resub website.
Next time, I’ll cover the broad strokes of what should be present in an effective query letter. I’ll also explain why this knowledge is beneficial, even if you’re an indie author self-publishing your work.
Until then!
Best,
Leah

Lurk Your Way To Success in Publishing
Are you looking to find success in the publishing world?
Join me on The StoryADay Podcast as I discuss the importance of engagement in writing and publishing.
In this episode titled "Lurk Your Way to Success in Publishing", I share strategies and insights that can help you achieve your goals as a writer.
Here are 3 key takeaways from the episode:
1️⃣ Don't rush into building an author platform: While it's tempting to focus on social media presence and building a following, it's crucial to prioritize the writing itself. Spend time honing your craft and creating compelling content before diving into the world of author branding.
2️⃣ Engage with the publishing world: Stay updated by following authors on social media, reading industry publications, and educating yourself about the realities of being a writer. Become part of the conversation, learn from experienced authors, and stay informed about industry trends.
3️⃣ Define your own success: Don't let societal expectations or external pressure define your writing journey. Take the time to reflect on what success means to you personally and set realistic goals that align with your values. Remember, writing is a journey of personal growth and creativity, and your definition of success should reflect that.

Writeblr Directory Guidelines
updated as of 4/12/22
Since we’re rapidly growing, I want to take this time to explain the guidelines for joining the writeblr directory.
Purpose
The writeblr directory is a place for writers to find other writers. The best way to use this resource is via the NAVIGATION and SEE ALL links. We also have a growing list of RESOURCES.
Criteria
Must be a writeblr. The main focus of your blog must be writing – including writing tips, writing advice, moodboards, aesthetics, and art.
Must fill out the Google form correctly. I am updating the form to clarify some points, but if in doubt – please ask before submitting!
We’re welcoming of all writeblrs, and the majority of submissions are accepted! However, from time to time, some submissions are rejected. This is usually due to one of the following:
Self-promotion. If your submission is heavily skewed towards finding readers, making sales, or self-promotion, your profile may be rejected.
A part of the form is incorrect – i.e. you submitted an email instead of a tumblr URL, or your submitted username doesn’t work. Double check information before submitting it!
WIP Links & Socials
WIP links should always lead to a tumblr blog page. The purpose of the writeblr directory is to create community here on tumblr, not linking off to sites like AO3, substack, etc.
Social links should be direct links to sites like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Discord etc.
Edits & Changes
Notice something isn’t quite right on your profile, or your details have changed, or you’d like to add more information? Send an ask or a submit with the required changes.
A Big Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who has reblogged, followed, submitted, and spread the word. We’re growing every day and it is a pleasure to see this community project come to life.
