The Summer Triangle
Tumblr media
The summer triangle is a famous asterism in the northern hemisphere made up of 3 brightest stars from 3 constellations:
Vega (0.03) -a bright blueish star from Lyra the lyre. 26 LY away. (I can really see the light blue from my binoculars!)
Altair (0.77) - the 12th brightest star in the night sky from Aquila the eagle. 16.8 LY away
Deneb (1.25) - from Cygnus the swan. It is dimmest of the 3 even though it is a blue-white supergiant because it is 1500 LY away.
These 3 stars are so bright you can easily spot them in urban skies. From 4N, it can be seen as early as June after midnight rising above the eastern horizon as seen in this picture here, lying on its side. It can be seen all the way till early October. The first constellation that I always see will definitely be Cygnus as its 5 main stars makes up another asterism called the Northern Cross. Then followed by Aquila and lastly Lyra. I'd like to think the lyre's body as a parallelogram. Other than Vega, its other stars are quite dim and with the light pollution I see it clearly with my pair of cheap binoculars.
You can use the summer triangle to find north too!
Tumblr media
Starting from Altair -> Deneb-> Vega-> Polaris. The pathway forms a "lightning bolt" pointing to the north star.
Tumblr media
Another method involves imagining a mirror image of the triangle and move downwards from the tip of the triangle to find the north star a few degrees west. Honestly, I find the lightning bolt method much easier.

Chinese Mythology: The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl
Romeo and Juliet? Guinevere and Lancelot? Honestly, even Shrek and Fiona?
Forbidden romance always captures the hearts and minds of the people. Love deemed unsightly or unnatural by powerful natural forces often develops into folklore legends and famous tales of romance.Ā
Tumblr media
We see this in the tale of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. Probably China’s most famous love story, it’s the inspiration behind the Qixi Festival (Chinese Valentine’s Day), which is celebrated as Tanabata in Japan and Chilseok in Korea.Ā
Qixi is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th lunisolar month (NOT the lunar calendar, in the same way that Chinese New Year is NOT Lunar New Year). The tale is derived from a famous Song Dynasty poem and also from celestial phenomena.Ā
Tumblr media
^ A picture of the Chinese lunisolar calendar (I might make a post explicitly on this calendar)
Maybe you’ve heard of the Summer Triangle, a phenomena in which three stars (Vega, Altair and Deneb) glow especially bright during the summer and form a beautiful triangle in the night sky. Qixi/ The Cowherd and Weaver Girl came about from the appearance of Vega and Altair as well as the Milky Way. Many Chinese legends are born of creating romantic/whimsical stories out of natural phenomena, such as the sun and the moon (Chang’e and Hou Yi, coming soon- stay tuned).
Tumblr media
You can see in this picture that the Milky Way is in-between Altair and Vega!
The Weaver Girl is Vega, and the Cowherd is Altair. Every year in the summer these stars glow brighter, and seem to ā€œoutshineā€ the Milky Way- ancient Chinese people wrote poems about a possible legend behind why this is the case.
This is also the mythological explanation behind why there is a Milky Way in the sky- it appears like a river of stars, and ancient people obviously didn’t know what a galaxy was, so they interpreted it as a literal silver river of stars in the sky. (This is why the Milky Way Galaxy is called the Silver River Galaxy in Chinese today).Ā
Tumblr media
Doesn't this look a little like a river, seperating two lovers?
The story goes like this: The Weaver Girl, either a granddaughter of the Jade Emperor or a seamstress (thus, weaver girl) immortal in the Heavenly Court, is bathing in a spring with several other ladies of the Court. A human cowherd, wandering the lands with his cow, sees her and is entranced by her beauty. The two fall in love and marry (with some versions of the story involving the cowherd stealing the weaver girl’s silk clothes, which symbolise her profession as a weaver in heaven and thus making her human).Ā
Tumblr media
Fun fact: heavenly seamstresses/weaver girls aren’t normal seamstresses/weaver girls. They don’t make actual silk clothes- they make silk clothes out of the clouds and the stars. Perhaps this is just a metaphor for how beautiful the heavenly officials’ clothes are, but this is also sometimes attributed as the reason behind nebulas and constellations, as well as the light-scattering effect around bright stars which sometimes looks like clouds up in outer space- it’s these stars’ fancy silk robes!
Tumblr media
See that brownish-green light-scattering effect?
Modern interpretations dismiss the ā€œsteal her silk clothesā€ part of the myth as made-up because it’s distasteful and implies a certain lack of consent. The Cowherd and Weaver Girl are the epitome of a loving couple- their tale should not involve a hint of unwillingness.
As such, we can ignore the ā€œsteal her clothesā€ part- it’s not the most popular interpretation of the tale anyway, I just thought I should mention it to emphasize that the two of them are very much in love- there is no forcing.Ā
There are other versions of the tale: sometimes, the weaver girl is entranced by the cowherd singing/playing music and the two begin a clandestine romance, and sometimes they meet while simply taking a walk. Regardless- the origin of their romance isn’t as important as the nature of it.
As with many other stories (see Erlang Shen’s backstory), an immortal and a human mortal marrying is very strictly against the rules of the Heavenly Court. The Jade Emperor banishes the weaver girl and the cowherd to opposing sides of the galaxy.
Either he sends officials to capture the weaver girl back to the Court, or he imprisons them in the sky very far away from each other. Either way- they don’t get to see each other anymore.
The cowherd’s cow (which is somehow magical now: either the weaver girl infused some of her powers into it, or some other gods took pity on the young couple and made the cow magical) tells the cowherd that its skin can be made as a tool to fly to see the weaver girl.
The cowherd sheds tears for his friend the cow, who has been with him all this time, but the cow reassures him that it’s just another animal, and that his love is important. Thus, the cowherd sadly kills the cow and uses its skin to try to see the weaver girl.
Wow. Talk about dedication. The details about this part of the tale (whether the cow actually dies, whether the cow was magical at all, whether the cowherd even flew up, whether it was the weaver girl who came to see him and not the other way around) are very iffy, so before you go blaming the cowherd for being an asshole to his friend the cow, just remember that it’s not necessarily the original tale, just one version of it.
Essentially, the cowherd and weaver girl wish to meet, so they try to sneak across the sky to see each other, but the Queen Mother of the West (a high-ranking deity in the Court) draws the Silver River (the Chinese name for the Milky Way) across the sky in order to separate them.
Being unable to cross the river, the two are sadly separated. In some interpretations it’s the Jade Emperor himself who draws the Silver River, in some interpretations it’s the weaver girl’s mother- either way, that’s how the Milky Way was created.
Tumblr media
Source: Lin Lin
Vega and Altair are on opposite sides of the Milky Way, just as the cowherd and weaver girl are trapped on opposite sides of the Silver River.Ā
Tumblr media
I'm sorry if you're getting tired of the Vega-Altair pics, but you can see where this myth came from, yeah?
However, their romance moves the hearts of many earthly and heavenly creatures. Once every year, when the Queen Mother of the West/the Jade Emperor aren’t looking, millions of magpies fly up to the sky and use their bodies to form a bridge across the Silver River (across the Milky Way) in order to allow the cowherd and weaver girl to meet for just one day.
Tumblr media
This is the explanation behind the Summer Triangle- every summer, the two stars shine especially bright. (The triangle that Vega and Altair form with Deneb isn’t important, just the fact that these two stars are able to ā€œmeetā€).
This day is the 7th day of the 7th lunisolar month, and is the day of Qixi. As I’ve mentioned, Qixi is Chinese Valentine’s Day, the day that couples celebrate by making grand romantic gestures to prove their love is as everlasting as the cowherd and weaver girls’.
Young girls also tend to pray to the weaver girl (to the star Vega) on this day to wish for a love like hers. I didn’t do this as a kid since I was a bit of a little shit and thought that was stupid, but a lot of my friends did!Ā
If we do take the cow dying and the clothes-stealing parts literally, the story becomes much less attractive and romantic to us modern people (the same way that Romeo and Juliet becomes much less romantic when you find out that Juliet is 13 and Romeo is around 18). These unsavoury aspects of the tale are also gaining more and more attention among young people.
However, we must remember this was written thousands of years ago when the idea of stealing someone’s clothes wasn’t really seen as problematic the way it is today. Ignoring the less-appealing parts of the tale to appeal to the spirit of the romance is not a problem considering that the cowherd and the weaver girl aren’t real.
Also, poor cow.Ā
Regardless. Their story is basically seen as the epitome of romance. Before Shakespeare came up with the term star-crossed lovers, they were the original star-crossed lovers, LITERALLY crossing stars to see each other. If your boyfriend/girlfriend is Chinese, consider doing something sweet for them on Qixi (August 19 this year, from what Google says).Ā
Another version of *Chinese Valentine’s Day* is May 20th, which is the date 5/20. This is because 520 is pronounced as wu-er-ling in Chinese, which sounds like wo-ai-ni (I love you). As such, May 20 is also celebrated as a romantic day, although not one with nearly as much cultural history behind it as Qixi. 520 is a romantic number, as is 1314 (yi-san-yi-si, which sounds like yi-shen-yi-shi, meaning ā€œforeverā€ or ā€œeternal loveā€).Ā

The Milky Way Through the Summer Triangle - December 12th, 1996.
"There are more than a few stars in our galaxy. The light from many of them combines to appear as a wisp of faint light across the night sky - theĀ Milky Way. In the northern hemisphere, away fromĀ city lights and during the summer months, part of theĀ Milky WayĀ can be seen behind theĀ Summer TriangleĀ of stars -Ā Deneb,Ā Vega, andĀ Altair. These are the brightest three stars in theĀ above photograph, listed from left to right, respectively. If you could collect light in your eyes for 10 minutes at a time (instead of the usual 1/10th of a second), you might see something like theĀ above photograph. Behind theĀ Summer TriangleĀ lies some of theĀ vast star fieldsĀ of ourĀ Milky Way galaxy, containing literallyĀ billionsĀ of stars. The dark band across the middle that seems to divide the stars is actuallyĀ interstellar dust, which absorbs more visible light than it emits and so appears dark."

Aquarius Full Moon Ecological Healing Package | Relationships, Shadow Work, and More
Tumblr media
šŸŒ‘ We are dealing with a really intense full moon energy at the moment, so here's what that means, how it will effect you, and most importantly, it's context given that not everyone is in an environment that is in tune with them (especially in the 21st century)
šŸŒ‘ In the modern industrialised world we have lost a sense of awe and reverance for nature
šŸŒ‘ Previous generations across the world and through time would have treated this powerful full moon with direct respect. That may have been in the form of it simply being a guiding light for ships to set sail (practical) or directly by considering it as a source of spiritual power. Either way, they would have paid attention to it. The modern world normalises disconnection from the rhythms of nature and movements of the planets, so if you feel weird this full moon and like you are being bombarded with responsibilities, remember that we live very unnatural lives - and your direct ancestors would have taken this much more seriously than the atheistic, nature-disconnected modern schedules we have to adhere to now
šŸŒ‘ Most eras and cultures through history would also have done something to mark and commemorate this full moon - whether a festival, moonlight walk, or simply knowing that it was a good time to harvest their crops. Letting these profound and powerfum astrological changes pass by without acknowledgement can be disorienting for our ancient psyches in modern bodies. So, be sure to do something that connects you with your emotions and allows you to tune into your more intuitive nature.

Tumblr media
Observations on how supermoons affect you:, and especially this one:
🐬 Moon in First House: this full moon you may experience no less than profound changes to your sense of self if you do shadow work. Generally people with this placement tend to be attached to their emotions as part of their identity, and whilst this can be painful sometimes, this full moon presents an opportunity for a change of identity that can happen smoothly and rapidly in a way that may be more difficult at other times.
🐬 Moon in Second House: With mercury in retrograde, you don't have it easy, and the mix ups in communications that can happen around this time are amplified when the planet governing your emotional nature is also going through such profound change. With two T-squares in the current chart, tension is high, but this is proportionate to the amount of change that can happen if you push through. Now, however, is a great time to work on yourself and your own shadow work as opposed to trying to swim against the current with the difficult energy that may be affection emotional expression and interpersonal relationships.
🐬 Moon in Third House: can feel acutely vulnerable at this time to difficult or toxic relationships and may lean on other relationships to avoid processing difficult feelings around this. Can be highly emotionally affected by constant information flow from technology and social media. This full moon is a good time to try and look away from social media (if possible) and focus particularly on yourself, whether this looks like curling up with a good book, or taking a long relaxing bath.
🐬 Moon in Fourth House: May be struggling with a love hate relationship with authority atvthe moment and a desire for more holistic or alternative ways of living. The moon can often bring the idea of a home or making a home to the forefront of your mind and can potentially amplify feelings of loniness, though at the same time may also make it easier to repair emotional wounds at your core this full moon. The modern world is governed by transience and we are in an era of intense change which can affect fourth house moon placements particularly strongly, disrupting your drive for homeliness and connections to your roots. Creating a routine that connects you with something timeless can strongly help with this, such as painting, going for a walk in the woods, or similar.
🐬 Moon in Fifth House: emotions are directly connected to your sense of physical pleasure and luxury, and now is the time to evaluate whethee you may feel disatisfied wirh the current manifestations of this in life. You may also feel the the shadow work your psyche is naturally doing finds it outlet as creative expression, so be sure to go with the flow here and let it out.
🐬Moon in Sixth House: With jupiter and mars in earthy taurus, we may have an urge to add more luxury and desire more from the basics of our day to day lives. This can potentially lead to you exploring feelings of disatissfaction and resentment towards those provider figures in your life - so check what's transiting this natal moon to see if anything could be exacerbating or amplifying this. Therefore, it's a great time to focus your shadow work on gratitude - although also to practice self care and assess realistically which parts of your life may truly not be meeting your needs.
🐬 Moon in Seventh House: 7th house moon placements may feel a sense of unity and community is lacking within their lives, something which is brought to the forefront during this kind of full moon. Modern life offers many opportunities for superficial connections but very few for deep, long term, meaningful connections. However, this full moon can be an opportunity to evaluate deeply the kinds of relationships you want and use the changeable aquarian energy to go afer them and make concrete decisions towards a long term and more fulfilling future.
🐬 Moon in Eighth House: This full moon falls shortly after the end of the perseids meteor shower. Whilst previously these astrological phenomena were often looked at with fear, they can shake up, heighten, and intensify whatever is out there - for good or for bad. Now we know they are not harbingers of doom, but they can definitely make things a bit spicier and with the moon in the house of big energy exchanges (sex, death, taxes, and other peoples' money), there's some pretty big changes to be had if you can manage them. Perseus was the legendary greek hero who slew the sea monster hydra which was sent in turn to kill the princess Andromeda, who had been chained to a rock. With so much dynamic and triumphant wnergy to do with water (your dominant element) this is a perfect time to instigate the changes you might have been feeling trapped about previously.
🐬 Moon in Ninth House: Tonight the powerful full moon rises next to Saturn and the academic saturnian themes of the 9th house can trigger powerful emotions as this planet currently sits in pisces, a deeply wmotional sign. Whilst not conjunct, focussing on these two celestial bodies may help you unlock themes and feelings to do with this house that may may not have realised you had.
🐬 Moon in Tenth House: The house of social status, this can encompass career, study, and further learning alongside the themes of the 9th house. With the natal moon in the 10th house you may often feel unsure or have to trust your emotions or gut instinct when it comes to decisions about these topics. The aquarius full moon can indicate a huge change and currently it is also a great time to allow suggestions from outside sources to guide you with regards to matters of this house.
🐬 Moon in Eleventh House: You may be feeling like you are not getting what you need from the relationships that surround you. However, changes which take place may not necessarily mean breaking them off but instead approaching them differently. Shadow work allows you to experience them on a deeper level and connect with any emotional blocks that may be preventing clear communications...
🐬 Moon in Twelfth House: Scorpio rises towards the southwest tonight, a powerful sign of the unconscious, shadow themes of our psyche as represented by the 12th house. In greek mythology, scorpio represents the scorpion that was sent by Gaia to sting the hunter Orion after he became arrogant and wanted to kill all the animals on land. The fixed star antares, which shines bright red at the heart of this constellation, normally has negative astrological associations. But like everything in nature, very little is wholly positive or wholly negative but instead can be there to teach us something. The same applies to shadow work, so if you find difficult, dark, or repressed emotions arising this full moon, this can also be an opportunity for positive transformation of these into a new chapter in life.
šŸŒ‘ šŸŒ’ šŸŒ“ šŸŒ” šŸŒ• šŸŒ– šŸŒ— 🌘
Reconnections and Manifestations:
in the NE USA you will be able to see the moon rise on the southeastern horizon and towards the zenith (top most point) of the sky you will see the bright star vega, part of the summer triangle asterism. Even in areas with loads of light pollution, you should still be able to see these three bright stars! Depending on where you are, Saturn will also be visible on the horizon to the east of the moon with a telescope or binoculars.
Pre industrially, these stars would have been associated with the harvest time, and reaping what you sow. It would have been a time to evaluate the decisions of the previous year and bring communities together. As a result, it would also have been a time for change and 'out with the old, in with the new'. The powerful energy of Saturn combined with the aquarius moon can bring tension between the themes of tradition and authority and emotional change.
Tumblr media
For fire signs: Change can represent not just what you do, but how you do it. Your approach to things can influence the results just as much as what you are actually doing. Themes within your shadow work that may arise
For water signs: change is most likely to be emotional, as much to do with your own attitude towards the traditions in your life as it is to authority's attitude towards you.
For air signs: The full moon in aquarius can represent a chance to reconnect with one of the great things that is often stripped away from us in the modern world - our connection to our intuitive and creative natures.
For earth signs: The changes brought about by aquarius anything can be a way to move away from following exicit instructions and adopting a more 'go with the flow', trust your instinct approach. The modern world can often be intrusive and cause us to feel pressured into making snap decisions. Previous eras made decisions more slowly and in some cultures gave more priority to feminine, earth energies than the modern world does now. If you are feeling out of sync, leaning into these forgotten energies and approaches can be a way of catalysing the changes that come with this full moon.

A Linked Universe meets The Dark Crystal AU! I don't even remember what started it at this point. I remembered that the Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance are things I like, blinked, and woke up three days later with an AU and a bunch of art.
The designs and the story are a wip and for fun so expect a lot of variation! (I have a few different beginnings, ideas for different designs, etc)! :D
In addition to #linked universe I'll be using the tags #the dark crystal lu au and #courage of the dark crystal!

The Perseid Meteor Shower - August 9th, 1996.
"From a radiant point in the constellation of Perseus, the Perseid Meteor Shower came to the night sky on August 9th, 1996. A bookishĀ E. C. Herrick of New Haven, ConnecticutĀ correctly suspected in 1837 that this meteor shower was an annual event. Indeed it is now known to be aĀ regular August shower,Ā caused by the yearly passage of the Earth through the orbiting debri left behindĀ by periodic comet Swift-Tuttle. Since theĀ bits of comet debriĀ are moving along parallel orbits, on entering the atmosphere they leave fiery trails which appear to originateĀ from a common radiant point in the sky, in this case in theĀ constellation of Perseus. Dramatically illustrated in thisĀ composite video imageĀ made usingĀ MOVIE, meteors from the 1994 Perseids streak across the sky, framed by the three bright stars of theĀ asterism known as the "Summer Triangle". The image shows bright PerseidsĀ recorded that year from August 9th through to the 14th. Here, the trails appear nearly parallel as the camera was centered on the sky about 90 degrees from the radiant point."

The older I get the more I realise there is just nothing to Jean and Logan as a couple, he's just the cool bad boy alternative to her straight laced boyfriend, and no writer has ever bothered to develop them beyond that. Logan really has more of a dynamic with Scott than he ever had with Jean. When written well, Scott and Jean feel like genuine partners with neither character overshadowing the other, but when she's paired with Logan, Jean seems to just become the love interest or worse a prize for Logan to win for being a good person, the relationship always reduces her.

this just about sums up my thoughts about marvel 1602 and x men: dark mirror. they are both bisexual and somehow only realize this through being attracted to a gender swapped jean. if i had two nickels, etc. this is the worst way to introduce bisexuality into their love triangle. they’re both gay but only for jean, who is a woman.
(i’m not even joking this happened twice in the early 2000s)

I’m soooo opinionated about Scott/Logan and maybe it’s bc I think everything that came after the introduction of the Jean love triangle is deeply stupid but also I’m right. ā€œOh they’re always at each others throats they’re in love with the same woman they would hatefuckā€ you know nothinggggggg nothing at all. They have such a specific dynamic and it isn’t that honestly, at least not most of the time. And even if it was, people never write it with nearly enough weird psychosexual quasi bdsm moments. Have you seen them??? They’re literally two dogboys just trying their best. Scott is a tightly wound bottle of daddy issues with terrible self-worth who just wants to do good and Logan flourishes when taking orders as long as he can also complain about it. He gets mad when Scott is always criticizing him bc he just wants to be told he did a good job.
It’s crazy. It’s crazy. Logan will always be there to stop Scott from going too far bc he KNOWS how important Scott’s ideals are to him, and if he has to be a killer for the rest of his life, then Scott shouldn’t have to. He can’t watch Scott take on that burden. He’ll carry it instead. He’s so deeply devoted to him. And meanwhile Scott, hyper-controlled Scott, has to admit that he likes it when they fight, he likes that little bit of chaos. He likes pushing and pushing Logan, winding him up and watching him go. Goddddd
