Remembering Patty Maloney 1936-2025

Sad week for Star Wars fans after the passing of Clive Revill and now Patty Maloney on the same day as Val Kilmer, star of Willow (not a SW movie, but a Lucas production). Maloney starred in The Star Wars Holiday Special as Lumpy, Chewbacca's son.  I got my bootleg DVD and I’ve written about it quite a bit here.

Red and Wolfie for junkpile on Instagram!! This was a fun commission to work on, and the commissioner was very cool, and gave me a lot of info to work from. These two are from the Tex Avery short "Red Hot Riding Hood" (amongst other Tex Avery media), which was SO HILARIOUS the first time I watched it, I laughed way more than I expected. I found where you can watch it in full on archive.org, if you wanna.

Apparently, two characters being in love and having a picnic under a tree is one of my favorite things to draw. My mind always goes there and I don't know why but it's cute!!

I've been super quiet, this past month, but now that it's May, I've decided to make an attempt to return to tumblr and self ship! I can't promise to be super active, but I certainly want to try!

I went ahead and gave my blog a re-theme, since I wanted something new--and I've also revised my BYF/DNI for the millionth time, but it was mostly to remove a few things, while also simplifying everything. All my important boundaries are still there, just not as wordy, and I reinstated my phrase! I've also changed a small part of my pinned--I want to try going by just Sherlock, here!

Lastly, I haven't gained any new romantic f/os--that feels impossible for me, at this point--but I did get a commission from a good friend of mine, while I was away, and I'll be posting that, soon!

red mirage and blue shift

a lot of people are stressed seeing trump leading in the polls right now and in critical swing states

I would like to remind y'all about the red mirage and blue shift

the red mirage is when the polls lean heavily republican at the start of the night, this occurs because rural counties with less votes to count are able to finalize their ballots earlier than larger blue counties

this causes many states to appear right leaning at the start of the night until larger blue counties can finalize their results

the blue shift occurs when these larger urban areas finish counting their ballots, for example in 2020, trump was leading Georgia until the larger blue counties sent in their numbers and Biden ended up winning the state

once urban areas are accounted for, these states shift to blue

Remembering Bo Goldman 1932-2023

Screenwriter Bo Goldman has died at 90. He won two Oscars for two of the greatest films ever made IMHO: Milos Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Jonathan Demme's Melvin and Howard. OFOTCN was adapted and it was one of Jack Nicholson's great performances. Demme's M&H is a phenomenal piece in Demme’s body of work. The inherent goodness in people despite their flaws is a constant theme in a lot of his work and that’s especially true here.

Goldman was an uncredited writer on Demme's 1984 film Swing Shift as well. That movie gets a bad wrap mainly because Demme didn't have final cut, star/producer Goldie Hawn did. I have seen the released version and I've also seen the director's cut version and there was some great scenes in there, just not as good as one would hope from Demme and Goldman.

Goldman is the father-in-law of another talented director Todd Fields as well.
