In the spirit of the new year I'm sharing this letter TE wrote to Lady Astor exactly 91 years ago! (31st of December 1933) It's rather long but I thought it's interesting

Yours, MI PIRESS, was the only Christmas greeting that I sent: and likewise this shall be my only conveyance for the New Year. O si sic omnes! Confess that my Christmas has been quieter than yours. As for warmth, my cottage (where I went, and by good fortune, for late one night an airman arrived ‘to spend the holiday with me’) depends for its degree of warmth upon the quantity of firewood its occupant cuts. That other airman and myself cut heaps of logs, and roasted and toasted — ourselves.

My cottage is lovely: but the drought has dried up all the other springs on the heath. So every neighbour draws, by bucket and cask and tub, from mine: and to satisfy their thirsts, I must forgo my bath. So it wasn’t, probably, as clean a Christmas as yours.

As this seems to be the season of random fun facts about T.E. Lawrence aka T.E. Shaw, here is another piece of his handwriting. This was written into an edition of "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell (yes, the famous childrens' book), obviously a present to a person he met during the time he was working on the RAFA Aquarius in Northwich in 1934 (where the film snippets of the launch were made).

It reads: "For S.M.Y. in pleasant memory of Northwich ... and the Yard. "Black Beauty" has stood the test of time well; my mother brought us all up on it. Unfortunately I went off on machines; my bike does 96 and goes on for as long as my strength lasts. So the poor old mare has to take second place. Machinery is an extension of our faculties, whereas animals become our friends – or enemies! Also they teach us our place...... beside them. T.E.S."

Im starting to not enjoy this blog anymore because of all the community questions/ask challenges that have been happening. I came to this blog for a reason and it feels like i cant do that anymore and a large majority of my friend group agrees. Is there anyway a separate blog can be made for that kind of stuff? Either you or community wise, cause frankly all the ask challenges are getting out of hand.

Huh. You do know each one is tagged and can be blacklisted, no? I do try to intersperse them between regular confessions. But anyways. That's up to the community, tbh. Though honestly the point of ask games was to talk about one's canons, fictotypes, past lives, etc. Like there's no difference between that and confessions, imo.

Hey guys! todays the day! The Pumila is leaving Silvae! it happening around 1ish PM! Me, Joyce, and our friend Callie who I haven't mentioned here before she's the floret who makes the drinks at that cuddle café where me and Joyce met! I realized I never mentioned its name but its Callie's Cuddle Café! anyways, we are watching the jump at Joyce's hab! we are gonna cuddle up on the couch and put it on the big screen! im probably going to spend some time with them so ill update yall abut the jump a bit after!

we are heading to a small planet called T.E.S-4 or as the locals call it Tesa, its a small rocky planet that doesn't have an atmosphere It was a massive tungsten mines for the QTP Corporation which was a manufacturer of the massive tungsten slugs the TCN ships shoot. The reason we are headed there is the people who live there want to stay despite offers to relocate them to someplace more habitable so they don't have to live in the small BioDomes the QTP Rented to them before the accord got absorbed so they called in the Pulmila to terraform it into a habitable planet and remove all the mining pollution

Today I learned that, for some reason, the cheap and readily available-in-a-bookshop english translation of the Odyssey is still the one by T.E.S. I thought decades would have provided store shelves with a different one, but no. So I went yolo and bought it.
