- We have to remember the environment the boys are growing up them is not the most inclusive environment

- Being surrounded with toxic white cishet nerds means picking up on micro aggressions and subtly back handed compliments

- All this to say, when Bill saw you at the comic book shop, he was kind of gobsmacked

- “Uh…I never new a black person would like comic books”

- He’ll never say it out loud (initially), but he does watch you…intensively

- You could feel his eyes following you while you picked up the latest X-Men uncanny comic

- If you two go to the same school, it’s the same thing. He’s watching you with the corner of his eyes, but also now actively taking notes on you

- It’s honestly creepy, to say the least. It’s like you’re the first black person he’s ever seen

- Striking up a conversation with him would almost lead to him questioning a lot harder about your knowledge on comics, even if you answer them like an expert

- This is a HUGE hurdle for him to overcome honestly. Talking to you more and more won’t automatically get rid of that nagging sense that you’re out of place to him

- However…his barrier can be broken

- If you two ever got romantic, that’s where he’ll work into overdrive. Probably will research as much about black comic characters (or black characters in media) in general

- If he especially liked you, may even researched black creators. Of course, he won’t bring it up at all in conversation

- You can tell he’s…trying? You can’t really tell

- But the backhanded compliments do stop overtime and he does become more accepting of the idea of you “belonging” in the comic book space

- Those prejudices will still exists, but at least he’ll try actively fighting them

- Don’t expect him to become an activist, though. Being in a space like that especially fucks up your perceptions of those different from you

- For Josh, I can see him being the second most accepting of the group

- A lot of his Sci Fi shows teaches about “accepting differences” during their runtime. Not to mention, being someone who is apart of a marginalized community (being Jewish) means he has experience some form of discrimination

- That doesn’t mean he welcomes you with open arms, but a lot less venom comes out of his mouth when around you

- Still, though. You weird him out. Never has he seen anyone “So brazen” coming into the geeky space (you’re just trying to buy a DVD of “Firefly”)

- Will use his extensive knowledge of Sci Finto see if you can be impressed about his vast knowledge of black characters in Sci-Fi (even if it’s characters you already know)

- Like Bill, will go on extensive research on any characters, plot lines, shows he missed, but it would be pumped up to the extreme. Genuinely would comb through every single media he had seen for any black characters and watch said episodes/scenes they’re in just to get a smidge of understanding

- He’ll still have trouble with it. He’s so narrow minded and has a hard time cracking open

- Maybe if you were into the same things he’s into, it’d be easier (kind of)

- Will engage with any media you mentioned, but it be more superficial

- Won’t stand up for you if prejudice comments come your way. Has his own biases and would freeze if someone confronts him, you, or both

- But he’ll get there (eventually. More than Bill, honestly)

- Pete would be the worst

- His horror media has little to no people of color, let alone black people

- Plus, with growing up with skin flicks and being so desensitized…

- He would fetishized you. Directly. No filter or anything

- Would compare your skin to food and other gross stuff. He has no reference to actually compliment a black person

- Would constantly try to touch your hair because he’s genuinely curious. If he manages to get a curl/coil, expect him to wrap it around his finger and watch it shrink/bounce back to place

- Will follow you around and “observe you”. Reality is, he’s trying to find some ground on where you two have in common

-Almost treats you like a specimen honestly…it’s disturbing, to say the least

- I will say, he would be the most likely to stand up for you. He would see you as an extension of yourself, so anyone making fun of you is making fun of him

- Probably rewatches “Candy Man” “Night of the Living Dead” and other medias to see if there’s any connection between those characters and you

- Even then, he’ll always stumble horribly. Never has he encountered a black horror fan, let alone be romantically interested in one

- He treats this relationship as a “stepping stone” of some sorts; seeing if could tolerate “different fans”

- Just a weird experience

- Evan said Jerry would be the most accepting of the four

- He would be the most open minded to a black player, even if he hasn’t interacted with one in his realm

- Probably met you by chance while at a tournament. You were at his circle and kind of clicked with one another

- He really does enjoy your company, and is willing to do whatever it takes

- That doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any prejudices. He’s a white boy living with rich parents that barely pay attention to you and is surround by a friend group who’s not afraid of spouting racial slurs and comments

- Fuck, this is the same guy who said a slur in the comic himself, but it would be kept to the group

- In front of you? Think a Diet Coke Pete. Would think comparing your skin color to food/magical items in his sessions is romantic and not at all creepy

- And would touch your hair while asking, but will back off with enough pressure

- Tries doing “research” of black fans, but finds little to no info. So, he forces himself to go to their space, and GOD, does he feel like a fish out of water

- But he does pick up on a few things, and tries applying them into your relationship (whether it works or not is like flipping a coin)

- Post fire, though, he does become more brave in how he treats you

- Genuinely does make an effort in breaking his prejudices, and will stand up to you if racist comments are made in your direction

- But that’s going to take a long, long, LONG time. Still, he’ll do it, for you

Okay, your grumpy grandma just took her happy pills, washed them down with three pints of Moretti and finally ready to perform the sweet and stupid "YOU KNOW WHAT I HATE?!" thing right now. 

But at the same time it's gonna be a low key but lengthy analytical infopost shouted angrily in your face. Fasten you sit belts, I'm starting!

(There is a nuance though. It's not about"what", it's about "who")

WHO?

There is one person connected to Columbine who pisses me off to the boiling point. Randy Brown. I hate the very guts of the man!

DISCLAIMER:

I get it, he's a much older wreck than I am, his own son was in that school and could have been killed (but he wasn't, and let's remember for a moment why, huh? but there will be more on that later, in another post). According to people more or less close to him, he's been blaming himself for years for not doing enough at the time, for not pushing the alarm harder, for not preventing the tragedy. Maybe. If it's true, I understand all this and even feel sorry for him. But what he is doing now and what he's done in the past kind of didn't fit to this picture, and also looks very murky, dishonest and manipulative.

WHY?

First, he constantly talks about some mysterious photos, videos and evidence he saw. Okay, but if he saw or heard something, why doesn’t he explain what exactly and how it proves his talking points? He could have omitted personal information and something he’s not allowed to disclose, but still explained what he thinks happened. Researchers of many cases do this all the time. He never does. "Trust me, because I'm telling you that I saw something, and that's why it's THE TRUTH, I am an expert witness and a holder of the secret knowledge, worship me for that” — this is his stance. Sorry, uncle Randy, it doesn't work that way.

Second, he demonizes the Harris family far more than they deserve. Hell knows what was going on in their home, it could have been anything, and it could have contributed to Eric's mental health issues, but we don't know about it, and importantly, Randy doesn't know shit either, but he's trashing them mercilessly not caring about choosing words.

Third, his idiotic theory that Eric shot Dylan. This is the BIG ONE. 

I mean, theoretically I can imagine a situation where Dylan has trouble pulling the trigger himself and asks Eric to do it for him (I tried to shoot myself at several points in my life and wasn’t able to do it, so I understand). But if you look at that fucking photo it's physically impossible. I will explain why below. Also, Randy doesn't say that it was some kind of assisted suicide, he says that Eric just killed Dylan because he felt like it. "Let's kill Dylan for a change — bang!” That doesn’t make any sense...

I remember one of his points was that the TEC-9 was under Dylan's right hand and it shouldn’t have been there, but it's exactly where it would land being on a strap — under his right side. It was actually strapped to his right side, we can see that on the video from the cafeteria.

Yo mama, me that is, being crazy enough, performed some simple morbid experiment at home. I own, let’s say, an object of very similar shape size and weight as TEC-9. Very shitty gun, ups, similar object, never buy it. If you strap it to your right side, to your belt that is, stand on your knees, put it to your left temple, and then drop it and fall to your right side at the same time, no matter how fast you fall, it will end up under you, it’s fucking heavy. And if then you turn on your back, choking on your blood, because you was stupid enough to shoot yourself in the temple and not to eat a fucking bullet, it will be exactly under your right hand or near it. I repeated this experiment 10 times to be sure so I can speak with some confidence, you see. Also the same would happen if you died on your side and the cops turned you on your back later. 

Next. We know that Dylan was shot with the TEC-9, there was his blood in the barrel of this gun, it was tested. So how on earth Eric could have done that with this gun?

In order to shoot Dylan with the TEC-9 so that he fell on his right side and his head landed on Eric's leg, Eric would have to be sitting in the same spot we see in the photo, with his legs stretched out, trying to get his hand with the gun to the left temple of Dylan, who is kneeling with his right side facing Eric at least two feet from Eric's feet. It's physically impossible, a gorilla doesn't have enough arm length, not just Eric!

And why on earth would he do that? If he just wanted to kill Dylan, he would shoot him with his own gun, as simple as that. If Dylan asked him for help, he might have taken the TEC-9, but no way would he have done it in a position like that and then, without moving his legs, shot himself. It doesn’t make any fucking sense.

CONCLUSION:

I feel like it's more about ugly shit in Randy's head and his personal agenda than anything else, to be honest. He hates Eric with all his heart. I can understand why to a degree but at the same time not completely. The guy spared your son, despite the fact that he hated him and threatened to kill him. Have some gratitude at least for that. Maybe he wasn’t such a monster you’d like to see him after all. And it's kind of sad and ugly. I mean, why in the world is it so important to convince everyone that Eric didn't care about Dylan and anyone in the world for that matter? They both did what they did, it was bad enough, you don’t need to paint the guy even worse. But Randy had this urge for fucking decades and acts on it.

BRIGHT SIDE: 

But there is some good news. The guy is arrogant and dumb as a tree trunk. His ridiculous constant self-promotion of his book gives me tons of laughter and second hand embarrassment. He's like: "Look, here is the ultimate and the best source on Columbine, the book of Randy Brown!". He literally says it like that, about himself in third person. And it’s the worst thing you can do if you want to promote something. You're making a laughing stock out of yourself by doing so. And he does exactly that, which is good, less people would buy his bullshit.

I decided to add a little bit to avoid being completely one-sided. What I agree with Randy on is his position on the role of bullying in this whole thing. He understands this and talks about it a lot and openly. I give him credit for that. He's not always consistent when he talks about it, of course, and you can find holes in his arguments, but at least he doesn't support that asshole Cullen, whose book has horribly distorted the events of Columbine and, unlike Randy's amateur writings, is a bloody bestseller. Yes, it seems that the second round of my "you know what I hate" will be a post about Cullen...

Her pigtails are heavily inspired by julia. She also has no idea julias a villan. She thinks julia and her villan persona are two different people

Next is Natalie (3/5) the co leader/spy/combat expert

Shes british and has albinism

Shes vary posh but dont let her apperence fool you she can throw hands

Since shes the co leader and cuz ger team leader kinda sucks she tends to carry her team in battle

Next is acella/ ella (or 2/5)

Shes the pilot of her team but she also helps built rockets for the knd moon base

Shes vary silly and loves space

She might have an alian little side plot but thats a wip

Shes the resercher/journalist/photographer and she helps with tracking villians and geting storys for the knd nightly news

Loonatics Rivals

These are some designs that I made some long time ago and lost, so I had to redo them from memory, I think they ended up looking better than the original The idea was to make characters that were not necessarily villains but more antagonists or rivals for the loonatics, even potential members of the team, not all of them would have powers, some would require their physical abilities and technology. Tory Russo could easily be an old friend of Lexy's who got superpowers and has a hard time controlling them (cryomancer) , she could also be a love interest for Duck, Pierre le pew would have some smell that influences people's emotions (perhaps a colony), and would be a good swordsman to rival Ace Peeny Pussycat (shadow cat) would be a professional thief who has a avanced tec suit that makes her invisible, she plays for her own side and can be both an ally and an enemy. Fox is perhaps the most original for not having a better-known counterpart to the Looney Tunes. I imagine her as a hacker, an expert in clandestine weapon technologies and a potential rival for tech. Finally Veloz Gonzales and Toro would be sporting rivals for Rev and Slam respectively, although honorable rivals, Veloz would have superspeed and Toro super strength and invulnerability

Seawatt probably would have been the medical expert for EMF and TEC, since the Fighter level knew the most about player physiology. In my head.

During post-canon, emf would probably abuse full health potions, if this happened. WAIT. When Evbo is eating them, they’re probably going to compare his touch to Seawatt’s. the angst potential…… oh my god.

Smithy Gang Headcanons

Hi, friends! I'm extremely grateful for the positive feedback on The Forging, and definitely want to write more SMRPG stuff; I've just been working on other priorities lately. However, my brain has been busy churning stuff over, even if I haven't had the time to sit down and write a story yet.

So I wanted to jot down some of my headcanons for the Smithy gang, specifically the forging order of the main members. I thought of a sequence where Smithy created each as a response to shortcomings he saw in their predecessors. This timeline will serve as a framework from which I can write future stories.

I don't think there's anything here that goes directly against canon, but I'm not as much of an SMRPG expert as I am with some other games lol, so feel free to tell me if there's some kind of Japanese-only line that contradicts me. Also let me know your own ideas if you want!! I am new to being a proper fan in this fandom :P

First, some general notes: I don't really have a good definition for who Smithy himself is, where he came from, or what his world is like, and I don't know if I ever will, since I find some degree of ominous mystery to be more interesting. Also - while I've seen the Gang described as "robots", while that may be true in a sense, I think of them more as "constructs" - I don't think they're powered by wires or circuitry or anything like that, but rather arcane magic. They are not powered by AI, even in the sense that a more nuanced and self-aware robo-sentience might be (see examples in the Marioverse: TEC, Beep-0, JEANIE), but a more traditional type of consciousness/soul that Smithy has learned to work with, as if it were yet another material. (This isn't abnormal for the Mario world, where we already have living bullets and bombs and the like- and in an ironic twist, also makes them somewhat similar to Geno, who is a consciousness inhabiting a form that would not produce sentience or mobility on its own.)

This isn't really a fic, although it's long enough to be one, lol. I hope you enjoy!

First there was Exor; but Smithy did not create him. In fact, Exor was Smithy's beloved blade, the reason for his obsession with living weapons in the first place. But Exor is a being even more ancient than Smithy, who just happened to bond with him in his lifetime. The sword can grow to a massive size, and is never truly destroyed, but will reappear and reforge itself throughout history. The otherworldly creature that attached itself to Exor and brought it to life has been known to some as the Neosquid.

Now Smithy, in a sense, was his own first experiment - gradually replacing his organic parts with malleable metal, not only to extend his own life, but to make himself more suited for a variety of purposes. This was a process that never really had an end, as he was always experimenting, creating new heads for himself. But when he was satisfied enough with his initial efforts, Smithy sought to create life in his own image, and in the image of his beloved Exor. Among other adventures, he spent time in Subcon, the Land of Dreams, studying the enigmatic nature of consciousness - at least enough so that he could harness some of its unfathomable magic for his own ends.

Boomer was the first of Smithy's prized creations (yes, because I like the idea of the one called "Boomer" being the oldest). Originally created to provide a sort of companionship to Smithy in the form of strategic advisory and being a bodyguard- and also to provide friendship, although Smithy would never admit it. Over time, Smithy became distracted with his newer and flashier works, and grew tired of Boomer's overly serious and staid nature. Though their relationship has grown distant, Boomer's fondness, gratitude and loyalty for his creator has never faltered, and he will defend Smithy to the very last of his existence. In turn, Smithy has never put forth plans for machine-made Boomers- the younger creations speculate it's because he's too outdated a model for this to be worth it, but perhaps it's because even now, Smithy considers him irreplaceable.

Bowyer was the next-forged. Smithy sought to make a commander who represented a long-range weapon, to contrast with Boomer's katana; and also a more creative and inventive personality to offset Boomer's traditionalist and unadventurous nature. When Bowyer was born, Smithy found that he had accidentally gone way too far (in his opinion) in this new direction, leading to a creation that was so erratic he refused to even speak like those around him. Smithy found Bowyer a hard-to-control troublemaker who would rarely listen to him (or Boomer) and seemed unhappy most of the time, not fitting in with the world he had been forged into. Bowyer would also leave arrows all over the place, sticking out of random things in the weapon world - this is when Smithy had the bright idea to create arrows with consciousness, so they could return to their leader on their own. To Smithy and Boomer's surprise, Bowyer became a lot more joyful and content when he met his little Aeros, and they all became an inseparable entourage.

Smithy became creatively blocked while trying to think of his next big project, largely due to the stress of Bowyer's early behavior. Instead, he came up with a number of smaller-time minions, some of which were the Shymores, based on the Shy Guys he had observed during the time he had spent in Subcon. The Shymores were a playfully destructive group, and after seeing Bowyer's happiness with the Aeros, Smithy decided to forge a creation who was destined to be a leader from the outset; and also one with a mischievous streak, yet toned down from Bowyer. And so he made Claymorton, who later called himself Mack. He was a beloved leader to his rowdy group, but perhaps too social- he ended up neglecting his own training, preferring to play and mess around with his friends, and thus never became very strong on his own.

By now, Smithy was growing frustrated by the failures and flaws that he saw in the personalities of his creations. He decided to think extra hard about the character of his next project: this would be someone who could work completely independently - brilliant, shrewd, capable of powerful magic spells and illusions. Yet Smithy made sure to write in an unflinching loyalty to himself into the new creation's code, so to speak. And lo: at first Speardovich seemed everything Smithy could have ever wanted. Proud, powerful, but knowing his place. He needed no minions, and thus was never distracted, as he could split his own form and consciousness so that one being could do the work of many. He might appear to be older than Bowyer and Claymorton, but in fact he is technically not; he was just created from the outset to be more mature, with the moustache to prove it. And yet, over time, the cracks in this personality began to show. Speary was pompous and did not get along with the other creations when necessity called them to work together. And his respect for Smithy manifested as simpering; a begging for praise and attention which the smith found increasingly unbearable. He was always coming up with unasked-for ideas and input, such as: perhaps all the machine-made units could take the name of a spear in a different language, and "speardovich" could be their overall model name, and that he quite liked Yaridovich for himself personally, and perhaps it would be alright if- but no, Smithy would have none of it. While at first he had beamed with joy at this newest creation, he soon enough kept him at arm's length (or spear's length?) as well.

Finally, Smithy hit upon a brilliant idea - his next creation would be a group of (mostly) equals who could depend on each other without a major power imbalance, keep each other entertained, and stay out of his hair. The Axem Rangers were born, all bearing an energetic and youthful personality which they are still yet to grow out of. They were given control of the Blade, and sent to scout various worlds. They often picked up slang and brought home entertainment from the places they visited, and developed a countless number of inside jokes. The other commanders, and especially Smithy himself and Boomer, found it hard to keep up with them. However, Smithy considered their existence a big success, and remained very proud of them- although this might be due to the fact that he ended up not having to interact with them that much.

...So, that's what I have for now! I'm not sure where all of the Factory enemies fit into this; based on their descriptions, I think Clerk/Manager/Director aren't creations of Smithy, but are the same species as him and recruited from his homeworld. Same with the Chief, aside from possibly not being the same species. Smaller minions like jabits and the hammers would be produced at various points that aren't super relevant to this larger narrative. Count Down was probably made as a fun side-project when Smithy wanted to take a break from weapons per se, and see what he could do with an object like a clock. Gunyolk was confirmed to be created by the Chief. And Cloaker and Domino are weird outliers; I want to say they would be among some of the first things Smithy made, or the latest, in some kind of more abstract and experimental period.

I may be remembering wrong and just need to pay better attention in my recent replay of Fallout 3 and so on but... I think the PipBoy was exclusive to Vault-Tec, right? The "you only find it in Vaults" thing, right?

As I mentioned in an earlier, I'm doing my third rewatch and I'm being slow. I started the second episode just today. And I hadn't noticed this before, I don't know why.

Start of episode 2

WHAT HAS THE ENCLAVE BEEN UP TO THAT THEY ALL HAVE PIP-BOYS??????? I seriously am like "how I didn't notice that Wilzig had a Pip-Boy?" A Pip-Boy that he clearly abandons after leaving, he doesn't have it anymore in later scenes. To avoid being tracked, perhaps?

I haven't played Fallout 76, but briefly looking at the Pip-Boy page in the fallout wiki mentions that only the Free States and some RobCo caches would have those beyond Vault-Tec, in Appalachia - which, well, very far from where the show takes place.

Has this Enclave faction raided some Vault and got them? If so, which Vault and where? Whatever the answer, I think it would help explain how Wilzig knows so much about Vaults in general and Vault 33 specifically, including Lucy's name, and his work on the cold fusion - including some pre-war knowledge about Vault-Tec operations that overall haven't been mentioned before as far as I remember, meaning the poison pills. Some control Vault that was receiving info from the experiments, maybe? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Another curious thing is how massive this place is. From what I researched, it's a real place in New York (Brooklyn Army Terminal Building). It would be closer to Appalachia and thus to non Vault-Tec Pip-Boys - and to the Commonwealth, where Dogmeat is, being remarkably similar to the Enclave dogs -, but how Wilzig would reach the west coast without being caught and in such a short time? That's curious, because the Brotherhood base shown is in Utah, and if that is also the location in the series, it opens up possibilities (*cough Legion cough*). But if it's this for the Enclave base... Then it opens up a lot more questions of how.

Wait. WAIT WAIT WAIT.

There's SNOW outside the Enclave base when Wilzig is running. LUCY'S MARRIAGE HAPPENS IN MARCH (as seen when she signs the dress). I'm NOT an expert in USA climate (Hi, Brazilian here, never even saw snow outside of television), but afaik March is the start of spring up there and also there isn't a lick of snow outside the Vault and in neither place Lucy walks through. Unless the Enclave base is at a place that usually snows heavily in March, then I think Wilzig has been on the run for a few months now. Possible coming all the way from the east coast. Possibly got in contact with Moldaver during this time and, considering where he first finds Lucy... Maybe he expected to meet Moldaver personally, even, and travel with her to the Observatory - but there was a contingency plan that if they didn't meet each other, Ma June would get him there. This would explain a bit why Moldaver's plan has a bit of desperation and improvisation; even if he had gotten into contact with her before, the fact that his running away wasn't planed could have created problems of timing - the Vault Exchange also could have presented Moldaver with an unexpected opportunity; maybe she was trying to discover a way of opening the blast door between Vault 31 and 32, then the Vault Exchange request appeared.

Also, considering that the orders for the Brotherhood Chapter in the show came from the Commonwealth Chapter... How would they hear about this before Quintus' Chapter, unless Wilzig was already running away from the east coast in general, and the orders were sent when they confirmed that Wilzig had managed to sidestep them? Considering that we also know that Coop was buried in a place not-California... (filming location New York too, but I can see it being in some other state close to California because of the name Don Pedro) Wherever the Enclave base is, it really looks like as being a good distance away from Filly.

They say that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic, and while most of the time this is merely a statement on how technological feats can seem fantastical and wondrous to those that do not understand them, it is perhaps nowhere more literal than with the idea of the technomage.

Now, Starfinder’s technomage class is more about blurring these lines by blending the two disciplines more than anything else, but I’m not necessarily talking about that class specifically, but rather, the the idea of the technomage as “someone using advanced tech to emulate the idea of magic”.

They may be couching real or fake attacks behind fancy illusions to make them seem different, concealing flamethrowers and other energy emitters in their clothing to emulate projecting the elements or other such feats, but as fantastical as what they are doing, it’s all technology in the end.

It is that sort of technomancer that today’s subject, the lightsplayer, seeks to emulate, specifically those that couch things in illusions and hardlight.

Lightsplayers, like their names suggest, use holograms to achieve woundrous effects that can seem outright magical, both on their own and by concealing their other actions within them.

They might be special effects experts for concerts or movies, con artists seeking to bilk rubes that mistake them for real mages, or even criminals using holograms to conceal their crimes or distract from pursuit, the possibilities being as endless as the class combinations and their own imagination.

Being a lightsplayer means having holographic tech on hand whenever they need it, so they build their own device similar to the custom rig of a mechanic (or integrating the hologram tech into the existing one). If they already had a rig, they gain a free charlatan’s wand, which is an electromagnetic device that can levitate small metal object, discharge minor bolts of electricity, or be used as a strong taser in an emergency, albeit cat the cost of overheating the device for a bit.

However, the holographic rig itself is capable of recreating technological versions of various cantrips and spells on it’s own, namely creating glowing balls of light, walls of light, holographic interfaces for nearby computers, and even creating a hardlight wisp to aid them once a dayl

Later on, by expending a bit of resolve, these holographic artists can use their emitter to create holograms, the complexity and capabilities of which scale with their mastery, letting them create all sorts of illusions and tricks.

Of course, not every trick of theirs is entirely fake, and lightsplayers also enjoy the simplicity of homemade glitter bombs, which coat foes in clinging glitter that potentially blinds them and ruining invisibility both mundane and magical.

By it’s core premise, this archetype is well-suited for non-magical classes seeking to add a little bit of illusionary trickery to their arsenal. Mechanic is the most obvious choice given their love of technology, but biohackers, envoys, and operatives also can enjoy the various forms of trickery it offers, especially since biohackers might combine it with psychotropic injections to make the illusions more believable to their victims. More combat-oriented classes, from evolutionists, nanocytes, solarians, soldiers, and vanguards may also enjoy it as a way to provide cover or distractions. Meanwhile spellcasters, particularly technomancers, may enjoy it for the additional abilities. Additionally, the various feats that grant the character minor spellcasting can be a great way to either add more illusion spells to your arsenal, or provide some very real attacks and utility to blend into your deceptions.

With how few actual abilities the archetype gets, I can be easy to imagine them either just making it a part of their arsenal, or going full in and make it the founding premise of the character. The former might simply be a technician with a penchant for holographic tech, while the latter may go buck wild with it, couching their attacks in holographic disguises and illusions to go full Mysterio and leave foes utterly befuddled.

Does TGD's past and significance as a Pre-War Mascot help with his general recognition nowadays, or is it more among ghouls since *most* would have been alive and known him from back then? Like, comparable to other name brands like Nuka-Cola, RobCo, Vault-Tec, etc., where their prominence made it so you can mention them and people would instantly know what you're talking about.

ooooh really good question! in short, the answer splits along demographic lines and the erosion of cultural memory in the post-war world.

tgd absolutely carries name recognition, especially among older ghouls who remember the pre-War era. his face, voice, and persona were widely broadcast on pre-war television and holotapes:

he was the kind of man whose face might have appeared on cereal boxes or educational holotapes, a trusted "tv doctor" used for public trust campaigns, especially during wartime science pushes (e.g., rationing, basic chemistry, etc).

for ghouls who remember 2070s pop culture, mentioning min wong is like saying “mr. rogers” or “bill nye”, if they became an (unwitting!!! he was forced to partner with vault tec!!!) indie scientist turned partner of dubious corporations and then a post-apocalyptic humanitarian.

many ghouls either admired him or resented his assimilation into wartime propaganda (again, not knowing it was forced, vault tec made him partner by what was essentially gunpoint and then stole his experiments) depending on their stance back then, but his existence is etched into their long-term memories.

recognition is significantly spottier with post war folk, his fame didn’t have the corporate durability of vault tec or robco:

his name wasn’t institutionalized, unlike vault boy or nuka-cola branding that was physically built into shelters, machines, or still-working infrastructure, a lot of it was destroyed after his arrest in 2077 (very long story which involves min getting fucked over at a sham trial)

most post-war born humans would not know who he is unless they:

are educated (e.g., followers of the apocalypse may know of him through archives).

have interacted with him directly or through the Good Doctor Caravan Co.

are from places like gecko, new Vegas, or NCR, where his caravan has visibility.

still, his branding within the modern wasteland has re-established his mythos:

his business is named after his old persona, and some surviving holotapes or vault archives include clips of his pre-war self.

caravan workers jokingly refer to him as “the man who sells rad-cream to ghouls and plasma rifles to mercenaries.”

in this way, he becomes a folk figure all over again, albeit shaped by the post-war lens.

there are withstanding rumors that he can cure ghoulification, especially on the east coast...he uh, can't do that, even if he is an expert on ghoulification (thank you MDPhd in pharmacology!)

among ghouls: his name is instantly recognizable, emotionally loaded, and sometimes revered or scorned (especially by ghouls who really do think he was arrested for seditious, unamerican behavior and not because his younger brother was arrested at a rally in hopeville and vault tec swooped in to get min arrested as well, so they can steal everything from him via a kangaroo trial, he people pleased so bad because he was terrified at the prospect of his demise and it blew up in his face, hes a lot better about putting his foot down as a post was businessman)

Its just weird that they have them in an inhaler, usually that's how they have jet/super jet. Unless this is supposed to be rad-x, but that wouldn't make sense since ghouls already are rad resistant. Well looks like someone has some pre-war or long standing knowledge about Lucy's family. That's kind of a fair response to a rather dickish comment on her part.

Then you can't stand over The Ghoul and try and sound badass when a minute ago you were shitting your pants and crying.

Overall the new people will probably have an OMG moment to the sights in Vault 32, but to fans its kind of a nothing burger of information. Just Vault-Tec being Vault-Tec. The fact that it was their moms Pip-Boy is an interesting tidbit. I wonder if this means that she was a raider.
