Did Rook bring any trinkets/sentimental items to The Lighthouse?

I think a lot of their belongings are still back at the Grand Necropolis with Vorgoth and Myrna. I'm not sure that their room would be left untouched, like a child going off to college, but more that everything is boxed up and stored with them on the idea that this /isn't/ permanent.

That said I think they'd have like. A blanket Vorgoth got them when they were younger, a fancy hair brush Myrna had gifted them as a birthday trinket, and a handful of books. They had to pack light when joining Varric so otherwise it's just that and some clothes.

Most embarrassing memory as a teenager:

Grier, between 14 and 16, was late to class one day and while in their daze of getting to point a to point b too fast, had the misfortune of passing as one of the heavy metal doors was opening and it nailed them hard in the face. They never got a look at who it was that had passed through, but they kept marching on even though they started to feel a little sweaty and fatigued.

They get to class and their eyebrow is split, blood going down their face. They didn't even notice until a drop hits their desk. At this point they touch their cheek and start nervous laughing when they see the blood, their teacher goes to comment on their tardiness and sees their injury and instead goes to get help, all while their peers are staring.

There's a fuzzy period of memory, but Grier remembers waking up NOT in the class room anymore and all patched up, Myrna thanking someone for helping before bringing them a change of clothes and assisting with washing the blood out of their bangs.

Rook is in charge of the grocery list. What’s on it?

Rye bread, jam, three different cheeses, cinnamon, eggs, water, celery, carrots, grapes, pomegranate juice, cream cheese.

Sorry to everyone but Grier cannot cook they are eating ingredients basically raw. Growing up in the necropolis where everything is provided, I picture Grier not having a need or access to cook solo-- but otherwise having a more bland flavor pallet.

Grier biting into a stick of cream cheese directly. Makes toast for dinner with jam or melted cheese. Snacks on fruits and veggies, unless they can convince someone to scramble an egg for them.

Lucanis probably made them an omelette once and Grier cried I'm sure.

What’s on their nightstand?

Not much! Hairbrush, hand mirror, some medication and ointments. Maybe a scented lotion if they've splurged on themselves. Perhaps a book they were working through.

A color, flower, animal, and weather to describe Rook:

Color: their fav color is deep purple, but to describe them? It depends on how you view color theory. Blue is loyalty, compassion, though I personally relate blue with mold ☠️

Flower: Bleeding hearts. Not just for the physical aesthetic, but since two of their meanings are of being compassion and overly emotionally reactive I think it fits.

Animal: I'm not 100% set on this but I've been joking that Grier would be a barn owl. The face is cute and sharp, but the symbolism that owls are have high intuition and are sensitive to things around them feels right.

Weather: overcast. Maybe a light rain. Grier dislikes sunny days, so a gray sky with a gentle drizzle or misting feels right.

What does Rook smell like?

Lavender. Mint. Smoke. Salty undercurrent of tears or the earthiness of grave dirt stuck in their boots.

dont want to sound annoying or pretentious but i just wanted to put out an fyi about people explaining vampires/their lore/books about them to me in asks as well as sending me ‘um actually-ies’ in regards to my drawings that have vamps. in conclusion- i know, vampires have been my fixation since i was a child and ive put an enormous amount of research into them/written/am writing papers etc! please do not ‘mansplain’ them to me !

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the process you go through to shade? How do you make it look so textured?

HELLO ANON!!! I'VE MADE MY LATEST PIECE FOR THIS SPECIFICALLY!!! I'm glad u asked... I love sharing my process because it makes me feel like a smartass 💀 I LIKE SHARING THINGS OKAY!!! IM A YAPPER!!! Now, click on keep reading for the shading process of THIS thing 👇

1st is the base colors, I normally color pick from their references and just adjust the settings of the pallete, but you can also just color them however you like :P for this, I wanted a good balance of yellow and blue, so I put a yellow filter by using darken. My advice for 1st step color adjusting is that you should play with the blending modes alot. The ones I use the most are lighten (if you want it to become more pastel or soft) and darken (if you want a more dull atmosphere or are planning to add alot of bright highlights anyway) so yeah!! flat/base colors!!!

2nd is first layer shading, aka the shadows themselves. Recently, I've guided myself with the direction of shading using the red sun as to figure out where the highlights or light sources would be, and the blue moon for where the shadows should be headed or inbetween. As you can see the sun is both at the top and bottom, which means the shading will be focused in the middle and shouldn't look too strong due to alot of light heading towards it!

3rd is the one I like doing the most, which is having reflective light off of shadows. It's basically light inside of the shadows due to some sort of light bouncing off of a nearby surface. Since the light here is blue, I used blue for the reflective light too. It's the one I use the most, but it can vary for what color the nearby surface is. For this step I use the blending mode hue almost always, but for this I used color since it wasn't visible on Shadow Milks shading before

4th isss highlights or lighting! As I've said, 2 light sources, so I kept in mind the one above and the one below, though the one below is more stronger than the one above. This step is pretty simple, just add thin highlights for where you've already marked the light to move to. Yipee!!!

5th and last is the overall piece adjustment and texture addition :P The thing that makes my art look more textured is this metal image thing from ibispaint's gallery, and sometimes the noise effect if this one doesn't really fit the piece. Again, I play with blending modes for everything to work! The second image displays me adjusting the colors using an effect rather than manually, this makes me have more control with the pallete and its vibrancy, that's why it begins to seem more green and desaturated than what I've shown from this point!!!

Aanndd voilà! That's how I do it!!! I switch it up ALOT of times, I change and experiment with shading styles a ton, but this one has stuck the most and is the one I've been using recently! I hoped this helped some people or just gave them a fun thing to read and learn about. If you guys want the brushes I use then I'll probably share them if there's an ask for it! bye bye :]

i think that a majority of the locals don't really suspect that the reader is messing around with the priest (they idolize him + see him as a nonsexual figure), but they do look down on her b/c of her visible promiscuity (i.e. the hickies and etc.)

they might notice her wearing shorter skirts to services, and crossing her legs/squeezing her thighs together incessantly throughout his sermons. someone might even catch a glimpse of soft bruises and red handprints on her ass after she bends over to pick something up in front of them the day after mass. and they're like omg? what is this young lady getting herself into? and who in this town could stand to do such vile, obscene things to her body? (as if it's not their precious priest)

i dont think they see each other outside of services/the church b/c they dont want to risk drawing attention to their "special, secret relationship". but! he does give her his phone number and she calls him sometimes when she thinks too much about him and gets wet :( he has talked the reader through touching herself on multiple occasions. tons of verbally guided masturbation over the phone as she lays on her bed, her hand between her legs, with an opened bible next to her. yeah.

he had gifted her that bible after the second time they had sex. not necessarily to indoctrinate her into the religion, but to give her a representation of something that was important to him. it was his subtle way of trying to connect with her. but it kinda backfired b/c now she gets hot and flushed when she reads the words "God" and "peace" and "faith". he basically pavlov's dog'd her. classically conditioned.

because she lost her virginity to him, she's definitely very attached. she tells him that she isn't, but its a total lie and he knows it too. she gets jealous when women, young or old (doesn't matter), come up to him after services all smiley and ready to talk to him about their problems. reader usually gets red in the face and pouts in the back pew as she watches their interactions closely. she worries a lot that she isn't the only person in the town that the priest is intimate with, but she is. he's fairly attached to her too. and because she's a pretty young woman, divorced dads and older teen boys will often try to flirt with her before the priest's regularly scheduled homily, and he has to gather all the restraint in his body not to insert himself between you and them.

Since Ichigo dies at about 15, and Hatake get their marks at like 14? what do her clan markings look like? 👀

OHHH OK THIS IS ACTUALLY A WHOLE THING, SO,

Ichigo got moon stripes !! It's also known as the story teller stripes, and is the traditional tattoos of the Hatake clan's religious leader and story keeper. Which Ichigo does end up in training to become!

There's actually a bit of drama with the fact that Yuki, the current clan shaman, is so old (she's in her 70's, which is basically like being in her 120's for a shinobi), and she's only now picking an apprentice in Ichigo.

Yuki did actually have an apprentice before, who was fully trained and set up to take up the position whenever Yuki died— but they were one of the 5 Hatake to die to illness the winter before the Hatake were summoned to iron court (which is the event that got the ball rolling on the Hatake joining Konoha a year or two later)

Yuki settled on Ichigo being her next apprentice relatively quickly after that, but wouldn't actually tell anyone about it for some more years— stubbornly staying quiet on the topic even when pressed with increasingly stressed and worried questions about it. Ichigo was only about 8 at the time, but Yuki set to training her just a little bit under the table

It was easy enough, when Ichigo was always happy to listen to her stories and gossip about past and present events. Ichigo kind of ended up soaking in a lot of things she'd be expected to learn in the role (religious rights / mythos of spirits and gods / traditions and why they do them / stories passed down through the family / etc.) naturally throughout the years.

Finally, Ichigo turned 14 and lead her first hunt— the marker of a Hatake coming of age. Afterwards, it was Yuki's job to give her the stripes Yuki deemed to 'fit her best,' which is ofc when she gave her the moon stripes and officially announced her plans with a "teehee congrats <3"

It wasn't actually too much of a surprise to those who'd been paying attention to what had been going on, but still caught some off guard. Ichigo had been "training" for like, 6 whole years at that point, without even realizing it. So she was honestly pretty well into her education on the roll, and would probably only need a few more years afterwards to be deemed officially ready to take it on

But then ofc, she dies a year later. And Yuki dies in very quick succession. (Losing her third apprentice, and so old already, had done terrible things to her heart and spirit) And with both of them went a very large portion of the clans history.

Others in the clan, of course, still knew plenty. Yuki's teachings had not been for Ichigo alone, and many had sat by her side and listened to her stories as well. But no single person knew as much as they had or had been in the same position of authority to do things like honoring the spirits of their ancestors or assigning Hatake stripes to their young.

In their deaths, Haruka had to take up many of their duties, mostly by default via being the highest other figure of respect in that regard. But they lost a lot.

There's some sort of interesting point to be made that the Hatake's religious leader wears tattoos that symbolize a red moon. And that Kaguya-hime is among the gods they pay respects to.

I don't really have any real thoughts on it other than going "hmm." and writing that down to reference later, but like !! That's something
