Let’s make a Sim!
I thought it’d be fun to do a quick step-by-step rundown of how I make Sims. Long post, so I’ll put everything under the cut:
Step 1. Start with a base.
I keep a set of blank base Sims in my gallery to start with, so I don’t have to waste time removing clothes/accessories/hair/etc. These one’s were originally premades (the ones that pop up when you first open CAS), but it really doesn’t matter what they look like because we’ll be changing everything about them in a second.
Tumblr media
Step 2. Randomize!
First let’s untick everything but the “face” and “skin tone” boxes for the randomization options. (The whole point of starting off with a base Sim was so we wouldn’t have to bother removing stuff.)
Tumblr media
And...randomize!
I use Zerbu’s More CAS Presets mod to add a bunch of additional presets, so randomizing will generally give me something different every time. (I also have a ton of custom presets, but linking them individually would take 100 years, so we’ll skip that.)
Tumblr media
Perfect! We’ll use this as a base to work with.
Tumblr media
I actually like her underlying structure, so instead of choosing new face presets we’ll just work with what we already have.
Step 3. Adjust, adjust, adjust.
Let’s start making some adjustments. We’ll pull the ears out so they don’t lay so flat against her head, and lengthen her face a bit. I find that Sims tend to have kind of round face shapes with small jaws/chins, and I prefer them to be a little longer and more defined, so that’s usually the first thing I do. (Obviously you’ll tailor your Sims to your personal tastes, though.)
Tumblr media
We’ll make some small adjustments to her jaw, cheeks, nose, lips, and chin. I prefer bigger noses on Sims, so I usually drag them down/out a bit. I also like sharper and more “severe” bone structure vs. soft and round, so I like to add extra definition.
Tumblr media
Next we’ll add CC eyebrows (@ikari-sims‘s Jenna brows) and adjust the brow line a bit... (I’m a big fan of distinctive brows, so I tend to make them thicker/wider.)
Tumblr media
Change the eye color (I’m using @missrubybird‘s Aqua Trigger eyes here), make a few more small facial tweaks...
Tumblr media
Aaand there we are! I’m happy with her facial structure, so now we’ll move on to...
Step 4. Body.
I prefer custom body presets to the ones that come with the game, so we’ll use one of @obscurus-sims‘s female body presets and adjust it a bit (widen the shoulders and neck, make arms a bit thicker).
Tumblr media
Step 5. Add body blush.
The first detail I add is always tattoo body blush. It’s a small difference, but that little bit of color is a must for me. I’m using a mix of @simandy‘s Torrada Blush and @obscurus-sims‘s Body Blush. (I think I use these two on every Sim I make.)
Tumblr media
Step 6. Skin detail time!
Skin details do most of the heavy lifting. We’ll start with a skinblend (@obscurus-sims‘s N15 Overlay):
Tumblr media
Then we’ll add some of @okruee‘s Misc. Face Details and one of @sammi-xox‘s Eye Masks.
Tumblr media
Then @mmsims‘s Eyelashes V7 + @mintvalentine‘s Lash Filler, @nesurii‘s Little Details, @pyxiidis‘s Miscellany Pt.2 Nosemask, and @miikocc‘s Face-kit No.1.
Tumblr media
Fabulous. Officially done with details!
Step 7. Hair.
Next up is adding hair + a hairline. I’m really loving @daylifesims‘s Gretchen hair right now, and we’ll pair it with @pixelore‘s Organic hairline.
Tumblr media
Step 8. Makeup.
Optional, of course. I’m using @pralinesims‘s Lioness Eyeliner, @grimcookies‘s August Eyeshadow, @thepeachyfaerie‘s Eraser Lipstick, and @crypticsim‘s Cloud Blush.
Tumblr media
Step 9. Clothes & accessories.
Now let’s dress her up! We’ll go with @its-adrienpastel‘s Saviour Dress, @solistair‘s Calf Boots, @aharris00britney‘s Beret, @kumikya‘s Pearl Necklace, and @caio-cc‘s Naomi Earrings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there she is! I think she turned out super cute.

Chapter 3: Beauty Basics ~ Getting to Know Yourself
Get your pink fluffy glitter pens and pink lined notebooks out because this chapter is going to be important!
As a makeup artist me and my other artists in the industry can feel disheartened when we do makeup on a client and the client leaves upset because they don’t look exactly like the celebrity or influencer in their reference photo. Even if the makeup comes out perfect, clients still leave upset because their makeup doesn’t look exact to their reference photo and that’s because we as humans are all built beautifully different!
Our facial structure, eye shape and nose shape can effect the way our makeup looks when it comes to trying to recreate a look. This post is to help people understand that their makeup look outcomes and cosmetic procedure outcomes will differ from others but by understanding yourself and your unique features you can achieve similar looks to your internet + television favorites while still completing your natural features.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Face Shape:
Tumblr media
The most important thing to note about yourself is the shape of your face. Knowing the shape of your face will help you with concealer, blush, bronzer, contour and highlight placement which will really help with creating the perfect makeup base!
How to determine your face shape: According to Masterclass “If your face is longer than it is wide, you may have an oval face shape. If your face is wider than it is long, you may have a round or heart face shape. If your face is twice as long as it is wide, you may have a rectangle face. If your face is as long as it is wide, you may have a diamond or square face shape.” Measuring your face is another way to determine its shape.
Oval - For longer faces place your blush along your hairline, along your jawline, cheeks and close to your ears. Subtle makeup tends to look best.
Square - Use contouring to soften the edges of the chin and jawline. Blush should be applied to the apples of your cheeks.
Inverted Triangle - Contour the center of your forehead and chin. Be sure to highlight your temple and jawline. Blush should be placed on your cheekbones or apples of your cheeks.
Diamond - Contour with two shades of foundation one lighter shade and one darker shade. Darker/warmer shades should be placed on areas you want to minimize such as the outside of the cheekbones. Blush should be placed on the cheekbones and blended up towards the ears.
Triangle - Your jawline and the under part of your cheeks bones should be contoured. Highlight your temples and add blush under your cheekbones as well.
Round - Contour the along the outer edges of your forehead, under your cheekbones and around your jawline. Blush should be placed on the apples of your cheeks and blended up to your ears.
Rectangle - Your contour should be placed around the sides of your forehead, along your hairline, below your cheekbones starting at your + ending in the middle of your cheeks and under your jawline. Add blush to your outer forehead, on your cheeks, jawline and chin.
Heart - Contour the sides of your forehead, upper cheekbones and along your jawline. Apply blush in a c-shape from the top of your temple to your cheekbones.
Oblong - Contour along the hair line at the top of your forehead and blend downward. Apply blush directly on your cheekbones and blend it backwards.
Eye Shape:
Tumblr media
Determining your eye shape will assist you with eyeshadow, eyeliner and even lash extension placement!
Monolid - Extend the shape of your eye by placing eyeshadow on your upper and lower lash line. Keep your eyeliner sharp and thin. Avoid lining above where the bottom of your lid meets your deep crease. Natural cat eye lash extensions work best.
Hooded - Add deeper shades to your outer lid to create an illusion of larger eyes. Use the darkest liner your can find and cover the whole upper lash line. LD, L and L+ lash extensions flatter hooded eyelids the best.
Upturned - Add a darker color to the outer portion of you eyes and a lighter color on your inner portion to emphasize your natural lift. Smoked eyeliner looks best. Dolly style lash extensions compliment upturned eyes the best.
Downturned - Go for a bold cat eye and remember to blend up and out! Balance your downturned eye shape with an upturned winged liner look. Be sure that D curl lashes are placed on the downward area of the eye and C curl lashes are placed on the other side.
Round - Add a deep shade to the center of your eyelid and highlight your inner and outer corner. Go for a smokey eye look and apply liner on your upper lid and bring it about a centimeter outward beyond your outer corner. Kitten or cat eye lash extensions work best.
Almond - Add a deeper shade in your crease to add dimension and blend outward in a v-shape. Slightly extend your eyeliner to the outer corner and use a thin line on your upper eyelid to your inner corner. Open eye, cat eye or a feline flick lash extensions work best.
Nose Shape:
Tumblr media
Knowing your nose shape will help you find the best contour and highlight techniques to compliment your entire face.
Flat - Add contour to either side of your nose bridge.
Triangle - Contour the tip of your nose and slightly up your nose bridge then highlight the center.
Crooked - Contour a straight line on both sides of the bridge of your nose and highlight the middle.
Bulbous - Contour on the top, bottom, nose bridge and your nostrils. Apply highlighter on the bridge of your nose.
Narrow - Be sure to contour both sides of the bridge of your nose and widen it. Use a lighter shade to fill in the middle for a widening effect.
Skin Undertones:
Tumblr media
Foundations and concealers come in a variety of colors with varying undertones to suit your skin. Here’s an easy way to determine your skin under tone and remember: swatch your foundation on your jawline then blend down into your neck and be sure to switch your foundation + concealer color when the seasons change!
For this we will be looking at the veins in your inner wrist! If your veins are:
Blue or Purple - Your undertone is cool.
Blue/Green - Your undertone is neutral.
Green or Olive - Your undertone is warm.
Need to understand what color correctors work best and what they do? Don’t worry I got your back here!
Green - Redness.
Purple - Neutralizes yellow undertones and works best for dull skin.
Yellow - Helps with age, sun spots and veins.
Peach - Conceals hyperpigmentation, dark circles and discoloration.
Pink - Brightens dark spots, dullness, age and sun spots.
Orange - Conceals dark circles and neutralizes blue hues.
Warm Beige - Covers spots, pockmarks, pimples and scars.
Bronzer - Neutralizes hyperpigmentation, conceals blemishes and adds a healthy glow.
Skin Type:
Tumblr media
Your skin type plays an important role when picking a foundation and concealer. As the post says above from skincaregem start by washing your face or taking a shower then wait 2 hours to see how your skin settles.
Oily - Your pores will appear large. Avoid going for a dewy finish and stick to matte finishes.
Dry - Your pores will appear tight and your skin may look dry or dehydrated. Avoid matte finishes and go for a dewy finish.
Combination - You will see a mix of large and small/tight pores. Go for lightweight, medium coverage, oil free and moisturizing foundations.
Normal - You won’t notice much with your pores! You can go with any foundation you feel best suits you. Need some hydration? Go for a moisturizing foundation. Full coverage foundation too much? Try a light weight foundation, tinted moisturizer or CC cream.
Sensitive - Redness will be one of the first signs that you notice with your skin. Be sure to allergy test and research ingredients in your foundation products. Go for foundations that are skincare based and made for sensitive skin. Acne prone babes you’re included in this section too! Go for skincare based foundations as well and do research on ingredients that are known to cause breakouts so you know what to avoid!
{please let me know if you want a post on what hair suits each face shape the best and which eyebrow shape suits each eye shape best! xoxo!!}

The Complete Guide to Salon Beauty and Makeup: Revealing the Tricks to a Glamorous Appearance
Beauty salons have evolved into havens where we may relax, get pampered, and change our appearance in today's hectic world. Professional salon makeup and beauty treatments can work wonders whether you're getting ready for a special occasion or just want to update your look for everyday use. But what does a faultless salon look consist of? Let's examine the methods, styles, and advice that all beauty enthusiasts ought to be aware of.
Why Choose Expert Salon Cosmetics?
Although makeup done at home might have its place, professional salon makeup has the following benefits:
1. Precision and expertise: Professional makeup artists are trained to accentuate your best features and make sure your makeup looks amazing in pictures and lasts the entire day.
2. Premium goods: Professional-grade, high-end goods that you might not find in your own kit are used at salons.
3. Customization: Every face is different. A salon artist will add a personalized touch by customizing the look to fit your skin tone, type, and occasion.
Popular Looks for Salon Makeup
1. Natural Glow: This radiant "no-makeup" look is ideal for informal get-togethers and daytime gatherings. Imagine blush that is subtle, dewy skin, and a delicate lip gloss.
2. Glamorous Evening Look: Bold eyes with shimmering shadows, dramatic eyeliner, and a statement lip color are common salon makeup looks for formal occasions or nights out. It all comes down to finding the right ratio of elegance to allure.
3. Bridal Beauty: The makeup must be immaculate, long-lasting, and photogenic. Pre-wedding trials are frequently part of bridal makeup sessions to ensure the look is flawless on the big day.
4. Editorial and High-Fashion Makeup: Salons may experiment with avant-garde techniques, vivid colors, and striking textures for photo sessions or runway looks. This is not your typical makeup, but it's ideal for statement-makers.
Beauty Without Makeup: Salon Services to Enhance Your Appearance
A trip to the salon is about more than just makeup application; it's also about skin preparation and feature enhancement with complimentary beauty services. Here are some popular salon beauty services that can elevate your makeup look:
1. Facials: The cornerstone of any outstanding makeup look is a radiant canvas. Frequent facials contribute to the softer texture of your skin by deeply cleansing, exfoliating, and hydrating it.
2. Brow Shaping: Well-groomed eyebrows can change the way you look overall and frame the face. Salons frequently provide procedures like threading, waxing, or microblading to get the perfect brow shape.
3. Lash Extensions: Would you like to forego mascara? Without requiring further work, eyelash extensions give your lashes instant length and volume to create a striking effect.
4. Hair Styling: For a unified look, your hair and makeup should complement each other. Whether it’s a sleek updo, loose waves, or a trendy braid, professional hair styling can enhance your overall appearance.
5. Manicure and pedicure: Never undervalue the significance of neatly manicured nails. The last touch to your salon look can be a bold, fashionable color or a classic French manicure.
Advice for Making the Most of Your Salon Makeup Appointment
1. Communicate Clearly: Whether you're going for a dramatic makeover or a more understated look, it's important to communicate clearly with your makeup artist. Bring pictures of your favorite makeup looks, and talk about any preferences or worries.
2. Prepare Your Skin: A clean, moisturized face is the first step toward makeup that sits properly. If your salon does not provide pre-makeup skin prep services, make sure your skin has been hydrated and exfoliated.
3. Have faith in the pros: Although suggestions are welcome, keep in mind that experienced artists have a trained eye for what looks well. Be receptive to advice because they could know what methods work best for the characteristics and shape of your face.
4. Take Care of Your Skin After: Your skin may require additional attention after applying a lot of makeup. To avoid irritation or breakouts, make sure you cleanse and hydrate your skin correctly.
New Developments in Salon Beauty
1. Sustainable Beauty: As people's awareness of the effects on the environment grows, more salons are turning to eco-friendly methods and supplies, such as organic skincare products and cruelty-free makeup lines.
2. Skincare Meets cosmetics: It's getting harder to distinguish between skincare and cosmetics. SPF primers and moisturizing foundations are two examples of skincare-beneficial products that many salon makeup artists use.
3. Minimalist Makeup: The emphasis on enhancing natural beauty with less makeup is a result of the movement toward minimalism. Consider cream-based cosmetics, sheer foundations, and a dewy, organic finish.
Last Words
Not only can going to a beauty salon help you look amazing, but it also gives you confidence, revitalizes your skin, and allows you to express your individuality through cosmetics and spa services. Whether you’re trying for an everyday appearance or preparing for a major event, the expertise of a salon makeup artist can make.

Beyond skin type, consider your personal preferences. Do you favour a natural, barely-there makeup style or a more glamorous, dramatic look? Are there specific colours or finishes you're drawn to? Sharing your preferences with your makeup artist during the consultation allows them to create a customised look that reflects your individuality.
Creating an impeccable makeup look begins with preparing your skin as the foundation. While maintaining a solid skincare routine in the lead-up to the wedding is crucial, utilising a primer on the actual wedding day is paramount. Terrific Beauty Advice To Use Starting Now
When people think of someone that is beautiful, many times it is based on inner beauty as well as outer beauty. Both of these things are in your control to change. You really need to have both to look your best. Here are some tips to get you started on your own personal beauty adventure.
Tumblr media
A great tip when it comes to beauty is to not overdue the makeup. Often times novices have a tendency to put on too much make up and as such make themselves look worse. Use makeup sparingly, and you'll find you will be turning guys heads everywhere you go.
Use a quality moisturizing lotion on your face. Having greasy or oily skin doesn't necessarily mean your skin is well moisturized, so make sure you still use a daily lotion. Make sure that your moisturizer has an SPF of at least 15.
Wash your face before going to sleep. This will remove all the impurities and dirt from the day. Use best acne treatment , to remove your makeup, then use a face wash. If you don't cleanse your face before bed, your pores can get clogged and cause pimples or spots.
If you don't like the look of your hair curled with a curling iron, try curling it with a straightener. Simply wrap your hair around the straightener and pull it through to the ends. This produces a much more natural looking curl, although it can take a little longer to do.
Let your hair cool off after blow drying it. Letting your hair cool will help set your hair style. If your hair has a hard time holding any style try using hairspray while blow drying it, using curling irons or hot rollers. This will ensure your hairstyle stays put.
Keep your eyeliners and lip liners sharpened. This will also help you keep them clean. If you freeze them before sharpening, you will have an easier time.
Remember that drinking plenty of pure water is one of the best ways to stay beautiful. It cleanses your system and helps keep your skin moisturized, your eyes bright, and your joints well padded and flexible. Pure water can be considered a "fountain of youth". Enjoying plenty of it will keep you beautiful throughout your life.
Give your face a monthly beauty treatment. You do not need to go to a spa to get your skin in its best shape. You can, instead, give yourself a complete facial at home. Start with a product to exfoliate, follow with a mudpack, next apply an astringent, and finish with a deep moisturizer.
When applying winged eyeliner, extend the line at the outer edge of your eye so that it follows the natural curve of your lower lash line. This helps it blend with the shape of your eye so that it looks more natural. The eyeliner should be thickest at the outer corner of your eye and then taper to a point at the tip of the wing.
If you are really concerned about your beauty care, avoid caffeine at all costs. Caffeine can age you, make you look tired, and make you feel jittery. If you insist on drinking tea or coffee, try to limit it to one cup a day. Rather than drinking caffeinated tea or coffee, drink a good quality green tea and decaf coffee.
To get eyelashes that really pop, eyelash extensions are the perfect solution. It is not best to wear these every single day, but they are wonderful for a party or a wedding. They can look very natural as long as you don't go overboard, and will bring out the color of your eyes.
Put your vegetables on your skin. Vegetables have many health benefits when you eat them, and several more when used as a beauty treatment. Try cool cucumbers or sliced potato on your eyes to relieve puffiness and redness. Use water left from boiling cabbage, broccoli, or kale for a healthy skin toner.
You learned from the beginning of this article that is important to have both inner beauty and outer beauty to be considered truly beautiful. You may appear pretty at first, though if you have a bad personality, your beauty will wear off very quickly. Take the advice this article has given you to take your beauty to the next level.

some makeup advice for new girls, women, and fems, from someone who started out a girl but still had to realise she was one after all:
YOUTUBE MAKEUP ARTISTS ARE (generally) FULL OF IT. There is no set "correct" method for doing makeup! How you apply literally every aspect of it depends on your face shape, individual features, skin tone, and personal style. YouTube MUAs who make tutorials will give fantastic advice if you share their exact face shape and features. Otherwise, take it all with a grain of salt. They're not a useless resource, but their words are NOT gospel.
Wash your face before applying makeup! A gentle cleanser (I typically use Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and Happy Skin by Lush) and a rinse goes a long way. Removing the sweat and sebum/oil buildup will help massively, both in ease of application and overall final result. No cleanser? No prob, find some gentle facial wipes in the makeup section of the grocery store. It'll make a world of difference!
Also: use Q-tips to neaten up lipstick! You can get angled/pointed beauty q-tips at most makeup stores or stores with makeup sections. People rarely get their lipstick absolutely perfect first try, no matter how experienced they are. You can always adjust, tidy, redo, or start over.
When wearing lipstick, you do not need to line your whole mouth to the edge. Most people actually have uneven lips! It's usually not noticeable until you apply makeup to the whole shape and cry because it looks lopsided and messy. It's okay. You can change the shape of your lips and take creative liberties with it. No foundation or coverup necessary; just play with it, figure out what looks good and even and which shapes flatter your face. You can also overline a little on the top lip; try giving yourself a small cupid's bow! If you've already got one, try enhancing its shape :)
Similarly to Point 3; with liquid eyeliner, the way you may need to give yourself wings will differ depending on your eye shape. For example, I have hooded eyelids, so in order to get an angled wing, I actually have to draw straight up from the middle of my eyelid, then out, rather than following the corner of the eye. Finding out what eye shape you have and then looking at "how to do eyeliner for x eye type" will help much more than a standard tutorial.
This is less of a beginner tip, but primer really makes a difference. It helps with ease of application, blending, and makes the colours really stand out. Foundation can work as primer in a pinch for contour and blush, but I'd recommend saving up and investing in the real thing. Just remember there's different kinds of primer for face and eye makeup!
You don't need to apply foundation to your whole entire face. You don't actually need foundation at all; it can clog up your pores really badly, and using it as concealer runs the risk of worsening acne and rosacea. But if you want to use it, a little bit goes a long way! Sponge applicators work the best, in ny experience. Also, when in doubt, go for the lighter shade; not because lighter skin "looks better", but because too-dark foundation will make you orange.
If your foundation looks shiny or feels sticky or heavy, gently dab away the excess, and try following up with some powdered foundation. This sets and seals the layer and helps it look more natural!
Mascara is your friend, but apply her last or she will be your enemy. Also, if you've got blonde or red eyelashes-- try brown mascara first! You may find it enhances your eyes more than stark black, but it depends on your style. There's tonnes of different brush types and mascara types to experiment with, too.
Applying mascara is much less intimidating than it seems. Firstly, wipe the excess on the edge of the tube, like with lip stain. Be gentle, you don't always have to "blink" down on the brush. If your lashes naturally sit curved up or out, tilt your head up and back slightly, meeting your eyes in the mirror so your eyelashes sit away from the skin. If your eyelashes naturally sit downwards, tilt your head forward Kubrick-style and look up at your reflection. Gently comb the brush once or twice through your top lashes. Experiment with adjusting the angle you brush at or the ways you tilt your head, depending on your eye shape and size. For hard-to-reach eye corners, try using the very end of your brush with minimal product, or find an angled mascara brush designed for hooded/folded eyelids. For lower lashes, if they sit curved out or down, it can help to tilt your head forward slightly. If they sit on a short angle, tilting your head up and back can help you reach them. Using less product (wiping away more excess), lightly glide the brush down your lower lashes once or twice, until you're happy with the result.
Don't worry if mascara gets on your skin or eyebrows, it happens to everyone ♡
Most importantly, find what works for you. Makeup can seem really overwhelming; there's cream eyeshadow, powdered eyeshadow, liquid lip stain, tube lipstick, pen eyeliner, pencil eyeliner, liquid eyeliner, cream primer, liquid primer, pencil primer, liquid foundation, powdered foundation, concealer, rouge, blush, contour, bronzer, highlighter, mascara, mascara brush types, lip liner... You'll be okay. We're all scared of it at first. ♡

Drawing a perfect eyeliner line is not something everyone can achieve. It is a stylish move that expands the appearance, although it is difficult. It is effective enough to make all makeup look bad if not careful. It may not be possible to renew eyeliner every day or measure it symmetrically. Permanent eyeliner or permanent dipliner is the ideal solution for those who want to achieve the perfect look and do not want to work hard for it.Make-up pieces applied with special dyes on the eyelid in the form of lines with or without tails are called permanent eyeliner application. Tailless permanent eyeliner is the method that enlarges the inner part of the eyelid until the end of the lash line. Tailed permanent eyeliner is applied a few millimeters longer than the end of the lash line. Another eyeliner method is permanent misty eyeliner, that is, the eyeliner is attached to the eyelid and has tone transitions. This method, preferred by those who love flashy eye make-up, can be done using permanent make-up technique. Permanent dipliner is the method that is drawn more thinly on the lash line. It becomes more practical to apply eyeliner or dipliner every day and apply make-up with this method without having to renew the line.Unlike permanent tattoo applications, eyeliner permanent make-up technology is slightly different, as its permanence is shorter-lasting. Scary Halloween Costumes: Your Guide To Realistic and Really Spooky Costumes (On A Budget)
“In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up in costumes and beg for candy.
In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it”
Set your stop watches people - we’ve got 11 days to prepare for the most wonderful time of the year: Halloween.
And despite the cultural traditions echoing across the world, there is one phenomenon that dominates the rest.
Halloween costumes.
It’s the personalised touch Christmas loses out on, and it's the one day of the year we can awaken our inner child.
And no, I don’t mean the therapeutic kind where you get in touch with your real, raw self. I mean the inner child that wants to pull on a Pennywise cosplay and eat an unrealistic amount of processed crap.
Working out your halloween costume requires thought and consideration. And then giving up on creating a latex prosthetic and slapping on a pair of cat ears.
Tumblr media
But at the Paranormal Periodical, we like to do things a bit different.
If you like things spooky and you’re a bit skint, pull up a chair - welcome to your complete guide to realistic halloween costume ideas!
Every year we see the classic costumes: a witch in a black hat; a vampire sporting a single drop of fake blood on the lip; and a zombie with a scrape of blood down one arm.
I’ve decided to shake shit up.
I’ve taken the most common costumes, and gone back to the roots of the creatures. Yep, I’m rewriting halloween, and putting scary back on the menu!
So, if you’re considering being a witch, vampire, zombie, or mermaid, here is your guide to the realistic costumes.
Let’s get spooky!
The Witch
It’s a classic.
It’s the go-to option for women, merely requiring a pointy hat you can grab from Claire’s, and the clothes from your goth phase when you were 14.
Add a smudge of black eyeshadow, practice a cackle, and boom.
You just got halloweened.
Tumblr media
But actual witches from way-back-when weren’t so Instagram.
In fact, they were considered the worst kind of women: hag-like, old, ugly, disgusting women. If you can think up a trope for a stereotypically ugly woman - which isn’t necessarily true, I mean, people rock unibrows every damn day - then put it in your costume.
Back in the 1640s, witches were considered poor, crone-like women. That’s a moustache, wrinkles, hairy brows, squinted eyes, and crooked teeth.
Also, they had teats! No, that’s nothing to do with their actual nipples, you won’t have to do anything to your own.
Basically, a point of ID for a witch was a devil’s mark - that’s scars, pimples, birthmarks - anything which symbolised their pact with the devil. Or, they had extra nipples which their animal sidekicks would suckle from.
Speaking of scars, if a witch pricked her finger, and it didn't bleed, the subject was a witch fo sho. And if they placed their hands on a dead body that they had killed, the body would start to bleed.
The final trademark fashion statement comes from one of the witch tests: dunking.
Aside from being stripped to her scanties, the witch’s thumb was tied to her big toe and a rope was cinched around her waist. She was chucked into a body of water - if she floated, she was a witch! If she sunk, she would die!
Yeah, it’s not a good test.
So, how does all that shizz translate to a costume?
Here’s how:
Tumblr media
For the signature makeup, go with a heavy brow, and dark, eyelined eyes to perfect the squint.
Then, fake scar it up. I’m talking dots of red on your hands, maybe draw a pink circle on your face for a nipple, and slash a lipstick scratch up your arm.
Or, ditch the red dots on your hands for literal red hands - just like the blood pouring out of your victim’s body. It could be fake blood, it could be red nails, it could even be patches of dark reddy-brown!
Whatever it is, finish the look with the iconic style of a witch:
Follow up with the fashion twist on a black pointy hat, tie a rope around your waist to give shape to the look, and tie some wool or string around your fingers.
That’s right; accessorise your way to authenticity.
The Vampire
This is the unisex approach to halloween.
Couple of drips of fake blood, maybe an Edward Cullen inspired quiff - anything can be a costume if its teamed up with the im-100-years-old-but-look-17-so-its-not-creepy smoulder.
But there’s a lot more to the vampire phenomenon that didn’t make it into Nosferatu, nor Twilight.
Vampires were popularised in the 19th century, so most of their style inspo was based on Victorian vibes. But in terms of their bodies and faces, there are some striking features you need to know about:
Vampires were often regarded as have bloated faces and bodies, and ruddy looking skin; these are the supposed effects of blood drinking.
And this blood was also believed to seep out of the mouth - and the nose. But fangs? They were rarely reported.
These features from past vampire sightings have been typically debunked via two explanations: the disease, Poryphoria, a group of diseases which cause blistering and itching in sunlight, and the past’s lack of knowledge regarding decomposition.
So, fancy reworking your Edward Cullen into something a little less up-to-date?
Tumblr media
Here’s what you need to do:
Take your fangs and fake blood stash from last year, and do the classic drip from the lip look.
But this time, smear a little under your nose, too.
Speaking of facial features, it’s time to get ruddy - that means giving yourself a flushed look. So, grab some blush - reddy, pink tones, only - and go to town. I’d suggest a patchy look for the deathy vibes.
And make sure you leave your contouring kit in your make-up bag - aim for a bloated, round-faced look. Or, opt for loose clothes or something baby bump-esque to bloat out your half-dead body.
To finish the look, dab on some liquid latex and pull apart to give wrinkly, blistery skin in patches. You can even check out my tips for being a zombie to ensure you achieve the death you aim for!
The Zombie
In more recent years, this has become to go-to for quick costumes, thanks to show like The Walking Dead.
But it’s not the easy part of the look that I love, it’s this: a zombie is an inclusive halloween costume.
Anyone can do it.
Tumblr media
You can pull out your FX make-up stash to show your skull’s skin peeling off and limb rotting, or simply pull a face and make a groaning noise.
You don’t even have to buy new clothes! Put on your usual get up, and stick your arms out like a Mummy.
#nailedit
But - if you’re asking me - achieving the realistic death look isn’t an expensive or difficult feat.
Zombies are supposed to be the undead; they’re infected and they’re decaying.
So, let’s go through some of the features of slowly rotting corpses:
A few minutes into death - aside from going cold, and going pale - cells begin to die and leak as they breakdown. Couple hours after the beginning of that process, things start to get shitty...
Yep, piss and poop just start leaking out ya body.
Then, your skin starts to sag, leaving it pale with red patches. Then, that skin shrinks, making your hair and nails appear as if they are growing.
Following this, your skin turns green as you begin to digest your organs. Then bugs, like maggots, take part in consuming your body.
It’s not long before you turn purple, lose hair, and slowly become a skeleton.
And there you have it.
#decayed
Question is, how can achieve this look?
Settle in folks, and let’s get dead.
(Oh, and I can assume you don’t want to be a skeleton with purple skin draping on your bones; so let’s cut to the early effects!)
Tumblr media
To get your undead chic on, here’s what’s on your to-do list:
For ya face, make things red and patchy with a dab of red lipstick smudged around your visage. Oh, and don’t forget to moisturise and highlight - think less leaking cells, more dewy finish.
A few patches of grotesque green will further the final look. You could even put gel on the ends of your hair to make it seem wet, or longer, and define your fingernails with brown eyeshadows.
Yep, start contouring your nails - let’s start a #trend.
Ready to take things to the next level? Cut some gummy worms up, and latex ‘em to your face.
Et voila, ya ded.
The Mermaid
Our final option is the current Insta-fave.
Joining the ranks of the pastel-aesthetic is the glittery, highlighted-on-fleek mermaid.
Tumblr media
But why be pretty, when you can be pretty damn realistic?
Fact is, nothing is more realistic - and scary - than climate change. So, it follows that any mermaid will probably be struggling in the plastic-filled hot tub that is the ocean.
It’s time to swap the dewy, contoured fish finish for an actual mermaid. Or, well, a dead one.
Typically, a dead human who had been left in the ocean would have several zombie-like characteristics that would be exacerbated by the sea water.
Your body breaks down much more slowly in water, and salt water - like sea water - would slow the decaying process even more so. A body left in the ocean for 2 weeks will look the same as one left in open air for a week!
So, that’s the red, patchy, dewy finish we already discussed with zombies.
And instead of the pruning you get in a bubble bath, imagine blistering, black skin. Plus, that skin also becomes swollen, and bleached, giving you the bloated, patchy glow that you don’t see in The Little Mermaid.
Oh, and don’t forget your body!
Thanks to accumulating gases, the abdomen swells from bloating.
Fun fact: this is what makes corpses turn upside down and rise with the torso and head at the water’s surface!
So, are you ready to get your mermaid on?
Tumblr media
Swap your Ariel wig and beachy waves for patchy, red and green skin, and use latex to create blistered, wrinkled skin in patches.
Simply follow my tips for a go-to zombie look, and like, make it wetter.
Don’t forget to stuff a jumper down your shirt to puff out your abdomen - bonus points for farting out those gases filling out your torso.
Now, go get your fish on!
So: which supernatural being are you vibing with this All Hallows’ Eve?
And which of your past halloween costumes have you been most proud of?
(Mine was my Man-Spider costume from last year...)

Best Makeup Tips For Every Age
Tumblr media
Beauty is all about maximizing your best features while gently downplaying your not-so-perfect assets. But the skincare regimen and makeup choices you've got when you’re barely out of your teenage years are very different than what you’ll use when you’ve hit that special golden age.
20s
In your 20s, it’s a time to play with makeup and find what works for your skin type, your complexion, and your personality. Want to pair fab fake eyelashes with metallic eyeliner?  choose it! But the foremost important thing in your 20s is to use the very best level sunscreen to stay you from burning. Sun damage early in life can cause wrinkles or maybe cancer later, so play it safe when you’re within the sun.
30s
In your 30s, it’s time to ratchet the crazy color combos and bold statements you made a decade earlier. You don’t need to hand over your individuality, but pick one area of your face to spotlight at a time.  as an example, if you’re getting to a flowery dinner, wear a fireplace engine red lip on the other hand tone down your eye makeup by choosing just mascara and straightforward eyeliner. Or if you would like to point out off a smoky eye, wear a nude or light pink lipstick. It’s all about balance.
40s
In your 40s, your skin begins its downward spiral toward volume loss, color loss, and thinning. You’ll find that fine lines and wrinkles will only serve to magnify bold makeup choices like red lipstick and coal-black eyeliner. But that doesn’t mean you've got to prevent wearing these favorites.  choose red lip stain or gloss so if it “creeps” into the wrinkles around your mouth, it’s not as obvious because it would be as a thick lipstick. If your eyelids are crepey, try using less eyeliner or choose a softer shade,  like brown, dark green, or soft violet.  confirm your eyeliner is waterproof, because as you age, some can experience watery eyes which may make your makeup run. Avoid waterproof mascara, however,  which may make your eyelashes brittle and thin. (See “How To Grow Long, Luxurious Lashes” for more tips.)
50s
In your 50s, you’ll likely have lost eyebrow shape and definition.  rather than trying to match the hair color that you simply sported in your youth, fill in sparse areas with a soft brown or dark blonde brow pencil or powder. Anything darker will cause you to appear as if  Baby Jane. Makeup rules from this decade and onward are equivalent as they were in your 40s. Avoid shocking, bold colors and favor softer versions of them.  stand back from heavy face powders,  which can settle in your fine lines, crow’s feet, and facial wrinkles. Opt instead for mineral makeup and powder, which is extremely light but still offers a touch of coverage.
60s
In your 60s,  a number of you'll prefer to stop coloring your hair. Good! Silver and white hair is attractive on all skin tones, but you’ve need to confirm your locks don’t turn yellow or dull. Back in great-grandma times, “blueing” was added to white-haired ladies, sometimes in too high  a degree, which led to them being called “little old, blue-haired ladies.” Nowadays, there are many  “purple” shampoos to stay the brassiness out of silver hair. Eye makeup in your 60s is best when it’s soft and muted but not pastel. Same for lip makeup,  which may be as simple as a moisturizing, tinted lip gloss.
70s
In your 70s and beyond, some women choose no makeup,  et al.  undergo a  dotage of sorts and choose bold colors. Whatever path you select, it’s important to not attend extremes. Choosing to not wear makeup could be a straightforward road, but you’ll look older and washed out. Choosing an excessive amount of or too boldly colored makeup can cause you to appear as if a clown.
For all generations, there are two must-do rituals for your daily routine: Moisturize and protect your skin from sun damage. Whether you are doing this with two products or one dual-purpose product,  roll in the hay before you lay a drop of cosmetics on your face.  simply because you grow old doesn’t mean you've got to become invisible. Find the simplest beauty hacks that employment for you and keep being fierce,  regardless of your age!

Face wrinkles are of two major varieties
They are dynamic face wrinkles and the static face wrinkles. In this article we are concerned with the causation and treatment of dynamic face wrinkles.
Dynamic face wrinkles occur as a result of excessive muscle activity. The reason the dynamic face wrinkle is labelled thus is because it comes on when the muscle contracts and disappears when the muscles are relaxed. In the face, because the muscle layer is just Buy PRX-T33 online underneath the skin with a minimum of subcutaneous tissue in between, it is quite easy for face wrinkles to occur whenever the underlying muscles contract. This occurs most commonly and importantly in the forehead (resulting in forehead lines or surprise lines), in between the eyebrows (resulting in frown lines or glabellar lines), and the corners of the eyes (resulting in eye wrinkles or crows feet). There are other areas, of course, on the face where muscular contraction produces dynamic wrinkles. Examples are the under eye wrinkles, the bunny lines on the bridge of the nose, and the smoker's lines that occur when one purses the lips.
Face wrinkles, both dynamic and static, have the effect of making the sufferer look older and more unpleasant than he or she is. This impacts on the person's personality and outlook in life, and can affect his job performance as well as that all important first impression when he or she meets clients or potential friends. It is thus very important when one notices the first signs of face wrinkles that there be an aggressive effort made to eliminate that wrinkle, or at the very least, reduce its degree of severity. It is also well known that persistent contraction of muscles will result in the wrinkle being permanent, or static, that is, it does not disappear on relaxation of the muscle, and is then harder to treat.
Treatment of dynamic face wrinkles is, by and large, through the use of a substance that effectively but temporarily weakens or paralyses the facial muscle groups that produce the wrinkle. Although there have been claims of substances that can work when applied to the skin, it is well known that by far the most effective substance that can be used is an injectable item called botulinum toxin.
Botulinum toxin is the purified toxin of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. The two most common brands in the world are Botox and Dysport, both of which use a specific variety known as botulinum toxin type A. Botox is produced by Allergan of USA and Dysport is from Ipsen in Britain.
Botulinum toxins such as Botox (also commonly misspelled as Botax) work by blocking the neuromuscular junction of the muscle, thus causing the effect of paralysis or weakening of the muscle, during which time the effect is very positive, being the disappearance of the wrinkles on the part of the face which was injected. This effect is not permanent, lasting 4 to 6 months from the time of injection. After this time period, the affected muscles gradually recover their function, and the face wrinkle will recur. Botox is very safe and specific if used in the proper hands. Thus if one wants to have Botox treatment to remove face wrinkles, one should go to trained practitioners.
Injection of Botox is generally through the use of fine needles which hardly cause any pain, as very small amounts are injected directly into the target muscle. Bleeding is minimal, if any. The effect of weakening of muscle, resulting in disappearance of the face wrinkle, takes place within 4 days.
Generally no side effects are noted if Botox is injected properly. However some people complain of some tightness of the forehead or mild headache a few days after the Botox injection. This is thought to be due to an unconscious reflex contraction of the surrounding untreated muscles as the treated ones are no longer working. This tightness which does not cause any harm wears off after a few days. Do you know why babies are so adorable? They need beauty to survive! Babies cannot live without an adult's support, and therefore need an adult's love to ensure their support. This is perhaps the easiest and most obvious way to show that beauty is for survival and not just for fun only.
How about in the business world? Sure, its not politically correct to say that you hire someone based on their looks, but it's almost always the first impression that sticks in your head and someone who is more attractive will always be more memorable.
How about money? Beautiful women tend to have a higher salary and better chances for a promotion. Handsome men -- not as much as beautiful women, but it still has its benefits.
Of course beauty is a big advantage in a bedroom for love. Want to know the secret of how men and women are choosing their beloved ones?
10236 Charing Cross Road, Los Angeles, California. A 50 million dollar Gothic - Tudor style house, built by architect Arthur R. Kelly in 1927, with a secret room, called the "Elvis Presley" suite. This room is famous not for its art collection or furniture, paintings or sculptures. This suite is special because when Elvis Presley stayed there, he spent a night with at least 8 women. Now the house is occupied with an aging Hugh Hefner, the Playboy boss, who is still surrounded by young beautiful girls. They are much younger than Mr. Hefner, but they are still enjoying his company. Why?
This now well-known fact remained a mystery for many years. Until 1999, when Harvard scientist Frank Marlowe came up with the unusual explanation of this behavior. According to him a woman can chose an extraordinary man, much older then she is, because even an aging men are fertile. Because with their experience and tools, they can compete with much younger males. The benefit is: young males have very tough competition, and women have much more choices.
What about the way men look? Does it matter for women? Sure it does. To find the truth scientists decided to find out if it is a masculine type of man, or feminine type, that women find more attractive. What they did not know was: both, but not at the same time.
When women are in fertile part of their cycle, they prefer masculine looking men. When they are in infertile part of their cycle -- feminine looking. Does it mean, that it is really women, not men, who choose? Or does it mean that infidelity is the inherent women's feature, because they need different men at different times of their cycle?
Men chose women differently: they want fertile women. In other words -- young. But how do they determine?
Full breasts, low waste to hip ratio, long legs, symmetric face, big eyes, small nose, body mass index -- all play their roles. But remember: they pick up young females! Therefore how do they decide? By "signals of youth" which are: clear and smooth skin, big and shiny eyes, full red lips, long fair hair and firm high breasts.
Marilyn Monroe, is perhaps the most famous example of this. But is this for only movie stars? What about ordinary women?
It is about 1350 BC. Ancient Egypt. The young Queen Nefertiti is about to pose for a famous sculptor Thutmose, who is going to make her bust. Suddenly Nefertiti notices that her eye liner is not perfect. To fix it she takes eyeliner and applies it to her eyes.
Now she looks perfect. That is how we know her -- from famous Nefertiti bust.
But she was not the one who used cosmetics to enhance her beauty. Cosmetics were cheap, readily available for ordinary people and easy to use. But the problem with cosmetics was: it was sometimes toxic. To get the desired effect they may put in Parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and other toxins. And cosmetics cannot do that much to cover deep wrinkles and skin folds, lift up the sagging skin or change the shape of the nose. That is why they came up with plastic cosmetic surgery.
