Very late to the conversation abt s4, but as a Noir girlie, I feel like this must be said 😤

(SPOILERS BELOW)

I did NOT like how there was little to no substantial development surrounding Noir this season. Instead, they reduced my mans into a comic relief character, which don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy sometimes, but don’t we already…. cough cough have the deep for that? cough

Like they could’ve done something so much more impactful with the og Noir, but noooOOO kripke just HAD to kill him off, and for what? Just for a few little scattered jokes here and there? Meanwhile this entire season has been an absolute uncoordinated mess???? ((Ik Kripke was planning to kill off Noir since the very beginning, but WHY?? 😭

I can see where they might be heading with a potential showdown between Noir II and Soldier Boy in S5, maybe mirroring the disfigurement of the og Noir or sth? But the way they've been building up to that so far just doesn't feel very compelling or efficient to me personally. it just feels they’ll land another lame “haha” moment for the audience and call it a day when it comes to that point

Impactful story arc? Nope- thrown straight outta the window

and yes I know Noir wasn’t even a primary character to the storyline in the first place, so it’s not like the end of the world or anything. Just take this as a nonsensical rant from a bitter Noir stan 🤠

every episode junmo is like so WHAT if i nearly die for gicheul !!! it’s for the job !!! my brother in christ your job is to bring him down not to show him your eternal devotion and readiness for carnage all for his name and sake i think we lost the plot a little but you do whatever and get that body count going for you i am sure the police force you actually work for will be super thrilled to find out you constantly mow down anything in your path to the point of accidental man-slaughter because someone looked at gicheul funnily and you lose your shit when that happens

Listen, I Can Compliment Steven Moffat, I Promise

You know, I avoided watching Heaven Sent/Hell Bent for the longest time because I was worried that it was overhyped. I've long been not a big fan of the Moffatt finales in Eleven’s era, finding that he often sacrifices genuine character storytelling and logic in his finales in favor of overconvoluted plots that fall apart like a house of cards with a touch, making companions more puzzle pieces than characters, and an overreliance on flash and/or "sexiness" that override some of the genuine emotional scenes.

All of which is to say...y’all were right. Heaven Sent/Hell Bent is up there as one of my top three season finales in Doctor Who history (season 1 and 3 are the others, for context). It is absolutely amazingly executed, fantastically written/acted, and an amazing send-up of Capaldi's Doctor and a send-off for Clara's character. It might be my favorite way that Moffatt has EVER sent off a companion (including River Song). Everything about these episodes (and Face the Raven, to an extent) is superbly executed, thematically coherent, emotionally satisfying and bittersweet (my favorite kind of companion send-off). I literally stopped what I was doing and just watched, jaw dropped, for the last five minutes of Heaven Sent.

Hats off to everyone involved, and I really do have to compliment Moffatt for evolving as a writer. It took him a few season to get there, but when he nails it, he NAILS IT. (And absolute props to Peter Capaldi and Jenna Louise Coleman for their performances, because HOLY SHIT!)
