ok but fr I think Stu and Billy should be parents and be actually really loving and soft parents to Sam, while literally gutting everyone else and being protective like animals and hey so what if Sam comes out to them as queer? I could finally use my favorite line from the Chucky show, "I'm a murderer, not a monster" which god, Don Mancini you are such a real one for that

my very long winded thoughts on episode two of chucky season 2
summary: better than the first episode but still leaves me cold when comparing it to season 1. funnier moments interesting developments and new characters dont fully compensate for the weird pacing and things being mostly setup.
the biggest issue for me so far is definitely that the first season was such a solid 8, and this one is kind of like a weak 6
i thought we would have more of the new characters, at least to establish them better and have a feel of their personalities. but sister ruth (freddie lounds!!!!!!!) made me miss ms fairchild big time, and the detective looking for nica and his interactions with tiffany made me somehow miss gladys from season 1 (the funny "high as a kite" lady, the woman who chucky gave the razor apple to on halloween night and who later was the realtor who sold tiffany the old ray house). i think even the tied-up guy back at the hotel had more of an attitude than these new faces. i dunno if thats a casting thing or a writing thing tbh. the previous episode had ended with an interesting note regarding that boy trevor, but he was absolutely nothing in his only scene here. lexy keeps saying hes evil hes awful but we dont get anything specific (”life a living hell” this and that, i need details), so it feels even more like just talking and no real outcome
nadine is a sweetheart though. i really like her and how she is so drastically different to the other three main kids, even though putting a kid in a catholic boarding school for kleptomania (what a letdown of a backstory tbh) when theres others who were sent there for blowing up a kid with a homemade bomb feels.... a bit weird. but whatever, what do i know. i just hope she gets something to do besides hang around the main three, bc otherwise the feeling that she will only be around to be killed by chucky for some quick emotional impact is not going to go away.
i!! actually loved!!!! that one scene in class with the teacher talking about hieronymus bosch, along with that projection it gave me big hannibal in florence vibes and i loved seeing jake talking about art, even if it was just a quick thing. im really curious about the religious aspect of the season, beyond the aesthetics, which so far seem to be the only way it really impacts the story. i think it was a missed opportunity to not make any of the three kids catholic/religious, especially either jake or devon (not even super religious, just a mention of being baptized or having been raised in a christian household), since that would intersect very well with issues of guilt which feels like its going to be a running theme for jake in particular. having him feel guilty for everything that happened so far (which makes perfect sense and his two little breakdowns were very well done i think) and not really have anything to do with the religious environment feels like such a waste.... especially with how interesting it could be to acknowledge fully how devon sawa is once again portraying a sort of paternal authority figure, continuing with his authority role as logan and lucas. maybe its just too subtle for my thick skull, maybe its something they will build towards as the season goes on, who knows
i really really really hope devon gets more to do in the rest of the season. jake has his guilt, lexy has her drug addiction, and devon... he feels so lightweight compared to the other two. i love him so much, hes a sweetheart (and i think he would accomplish what i think?? nadines role is meant to fulfill) but having him just be the emotional rock for jake in this season is not enough, nor is it to keep the previous seasons tug of war with jake regarding their relationship and whether theyre good for one another. i was all episode hoping hed come up with some interesting info on the school and with charles lee rays childhood in it or something..... devon is a smart one, he made the important research and came up with the trap in season 1, and i wish the series remembered that, like it remembered that jake is an artist at heart
really dumb thought but im kinda glad that in the scene with nica and chucky talking inside her head we didnt get like a gollum/smeagol, david-hasselhoff-as-jekyll-and-hyde-the-musical thing (not that fiona dourif wouldnt be able to pull it off); i liked that it showed them as two separate entities even in her own body. probably not the intention but i always like to see nica in some way in control of herself and it makes absolute sense that in that discussion with him she would conceptualize him as a being apart from her. i do think we will eventually get a pretty hammy “shifting” scene and it will be probably a little bit cringe even if its fiona’s wonderful acting
i liked seeing nica trying to manipulate tiffany to leave her alone with her chiding her for wasting money, it was believable but also just clumsy enough of an effort to show shes really getting desperate and that tiffany is still smart enough to realize when shes trying to get her to do something. tiffany as a whole has been feeling just a little too.... dumb? in some way? especially with how little care she put into even properly lying to that detective. like i know its meant to be funny.... but i dont want the comedy to come from tiffany being clueless or dumb. shes ditzy and a bit naive but never dumb
and also i really didnt like the opening credits with the portraits. what the heck was that. i know its a detail and im petty but that was so lazy why didnt we get like crucifixes or sth else, even if it didn’t fit super well it made more sense than those silly production images of the doll and of fiona floating around...........
most of all i feel like stuff IS happening in each episode (here theres the interesting thing with the doll doing recon and taking those pictures?? for some reason???? and now chucky and nica working together to break free and get revenge) but its nowhere as tightly structured and well built up to as in the first season. im thinking of how every scene added a little more to the characters and the environment and the dynamics and how it juggled a whole bunch of plotlines masterfully, while here i think we might have. three. if we count devon and jake, and lexy and nadine as separates. and theres still this feeling of waiting for something else to happen, of building up to something, instead of a constant succession of impactful events. i hoped first episode was all setup even if it wasnt super well conveyed, and this episode too felt most of all like catching up and setting up possible threads. it got better after the halfway point but it still feels like a slow climb. thinking it will eventually get better isnt much of a comfort to me when i can easily remember how much better season one was

As the garbage fire year of 2020 continues, I have been struggling to find something to fill the Schitt’s-Creek-sized hole in my heart.
Which, come to think of it, replaced the Parks-and-Rec-sized hole in my heart prior to that.  I’ve always been a sucker for “soft” television, but with everything going on the world, whatever tolerance I had for heavier fare has disappeared completely.  Like, yeah, I’d love to catch I May Destroy You or I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, but I just. Can’t. Handle. Them. Right now, anyway.
I do have some old standards to fall back on-- Bob’s Burgers, The Good Place, The Great British Baking Show, and Kim’s Convenience (bless you, Canada) work just fine.  But with so much time at home, I’ve been getting antsy for new, soft, comforting content.
Then I watched Julie and the Phantoms on Netflix.
Tumblr media
And I loved it SO. MUCH.
(Warning, since this is a family-friendly show: profanity ahead.)
Which, I have to admit, I’m kind of embarrassed about.  Like, look: I fully own up to the fact that my tastes aren’t exactly refined or mature.  I’m one of those contemptible “childless millennials”, after all.  There are things on my Netflix and Spotify lists that would make film buffs and hipsters cry.
But what I will give myself a pat on the back for is that I’m extremely open-minded when it comes to any sort of art consumption.  My tastes are super-varied, and I don’t have the burden of worrying about what is “socially acceptable” for me to watch.  I can watch Barry and Fleabag just as happily as I can watch Sarah & Duck (literally, a show for preschoolers that works better than any anti-anxiety medication I’ve tried) and old episodes of Tiny Toon Adventures.
Regardless, there’s embarrassment. Which is not about the fact that it’s a cheesy, High-School-Musical-esque, pre-teen friendly series, actually (... okay, maybe a little), but because the aging freakout is real, my friends.  Hitting the “Oh-My-God, I’d-Have-To-Play-the-PARENT” period of your life is fucking rough.
Basically, in the words of Roger Murtaugh... I’m too old for this shit.
But I’m trying to tell myself that 1) Generation Z is delightful and I refuse to feel guilt for appreciating them, 2) god knows we’re all watching Stranger Things without embarrassment, and those kids are, like, twelve, and 3) now that I’m apparently ANCIENT, I’m supposed to stop caring about what other people think.
So: Julie and the Phantoms made my heart grow three sizes and I loved it a whole lot.
Quick synopsis: Julie, our hero, is a performing arts school student who is grieving the death of her mom and unable to continue making/playing music because of it.  One day, three ghosts of teenage boys who were in a mid-90’s rock band show up in her garage.  They form a new band (insert title of show here) and help Julie rediscover her love of music, while she helps them navigate the afterlife.  Bonding occurs, lessons are learned, the power of friendship is discovered, you get the idea.
And okay-- at its surface, it’s family-friendly entertainment, you know? Cute story, funny moments, the music is catchy, the whole cast is super talented (and, hey, can actually play their instruments! Whaddaya know!).
But the CHARACTERS!  THE SOFTNESS! THE REPRESENTATION!  If this is how young adults are going to written from now on, sign me the fuck up.
First of all, the two female leads of the show are women of color-- Julie (Madison Reyes) is Latinx and her best friend, Flynn (Jadah Marie), is Black.  That alone is (sadly, STILL) noteworthy, but I literally wanted to stand on my couch and yell about how wonderfully self-assured, smart, mature, strong, and competent these girls are.  Julie, in particular, is just… she’s just so cool, you guys. She never once has to rely on anyone else but herself to get shit done, and she takes responsibility for her own actions.  The girl very clearly knows her talent, capabilities, and worth, and PHEW, do we need to see more young women like her on our screens!  Like, yes, the boys support her, but they’re complete equals.  Julie doesn’t need any male saviors up in this business. She’s got this.  I LOVE HER. I SOMEHOW WANT TO BE HER WHEN I GROW UP, EVEN THOUGH SHE’S LIKE HALF MY AGE (oh GOD. I’m so OLD).
Tumblr media
In fact, throughout the series, the importance of honesty, respect, and healthy support is repeatedly emphasized.  There’s no dependency issues here, and lying of any kind is clearly forbidden.  Which I loved, because the whole “teen lying to everyone” storyline has been done to death.
Then there’s the three boys of Sunset Curve-- Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Alex (Owen Joyner), and Reggie (Jeremy Shada), i.e. the messengers of destruction for toxic masculinity.  THIS IS THE MALE FRIENDSHIP PORTRAYAL WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR, PEOPLE.  They’re so nice to each other! They’re so supportive! They’re tactile, openly emotional, and completely devoid of judgment of any interests or behaviors that don’t follow male social standards.  Bless the Age of the Soft Boys, may their reign be unbreakable and everlasting.
Tumblr media
Oh, and Alex is openly gay.  It’s not just hinted at-- he’s out and proud, with an adorable crush/pre-relationship with a skater boy named Willie (Booboo Stewart).  And, apart from a quick mention about Alex’s parents being homophobic, the show pretty much takes the Schitt’s Creek route-- all love and acceptance, with not much of a thing made of his sexuality at all (in fact, there’s enough evidence that none of the boys are completely straight, and I’m here for that, too).
And if all of that isn’t enough of a cuddle to the heart for you, THERE’S MORE:
Julie’s supportive, soft dad
Reggie’s immediate, one-sided bond with Julie’s supportive, soft dad and her brother
Julie and Luke totally have crushes on each other and it’s SO SWEET but completely age-appropriate, good job guys
I’m a sucker for good harmonies and the band HAS ‘EM IN SPADES
Flynn being HBIC the entire series
Julie’s crush Nick being very realistically awkward and dopey in the shadow of Luke’s arms (Nick, dude, lose that HAT, I beg of you)
A surprisingly moving side-plot/song about Luke’s parents
Alex just wanting to dance, and also being a high-key feminist and calling out the others when they slip up
EVERYONE’S JUST SO FUCKING NICE, OKAY
So yeah. Shut up. It’s wonderful and pure, and I WILL TAKE ANY SOFTNESS I CAN GET IN THIS HELL YEAR, WHEREVER I CAN GET IT.
In conclusion, Kenny Ortega can have my entire soul if he wants it, for not only this but also Hocus Pocus and Newsies.
Completely Unnecessary Afterword:
Being old enough to remember 1995-- and, specifically, what was popular that year-- has brought up some important questions regarding the Sunset Curve boys:
We know they died in ‘95, but like… when? Did they get to see Empire Records, for Christ’s sake?! Did they see Casper, because, I mean, they’re basically the Devon Sawas of 2020?  Were they spared their contemporaries’ fate of constantly over-quoting Billy Madison and Tommy Boy?
OH MY GOD, DID THEY HAVE AOL SCREEN NAMES, AND WHAT WERE THEY??
What are each of the guys’ favorite song off of Boyz II Men’s “II”? This is possibly the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION.
Did they die before Jagged Little Pill came out?  That would kind of break my heart.  Not that I expect Julie to start portraying Alanis-levels of anger/angst, but ‘95 was a YEAR for women in rock.  Garbage, Hole, No Doubt, PJ Harvey, The Cranberries, Veruca Salt, Bjork, and countless others-- they all had massive hits that year.  I love the idea of Julie and the guys sitting around the garage listening to all of those women for inspiration.  Can we have a resurgence of female-led rock bands taking over the charts, please?
On a much more serious note, given where the AIDS crisis was in ‘95, it’s no wonder Alex is a nervous wreck. It’s not really something I expect the show to delve into, but man… getting transported to 2020 might’ve been a bit of a blessing (not that things are great now, but y’know, medical progress).
How in the world did none of them fall victim to the whole “white boys dressing hip-hop” trend back in ‘95? I mean… Clueless got it right. (Wait, did they make it to Clueless??)

Devon Sawa Talks ‘Hunter Hunter’ and Working With Bruce Campbell & Glenn Danzig on Upcoming Horror Movies [Interview].
You can read the segment from this Bloody Disgusting interview with Devon Sawa on Black Friday below.
What can you tell us about Black Friday at this point?
Black Friday came to me at the beginning of the quarantine and it was just me at this point. I read it and it was the first time I felt—I hadn’t done anything like Idle Hands or Slackers in a lot of years. I felt like after Slackers I didn’t really want to revisit comedy at all or that kind of comedy. And I read this script and it’s a lot of fun. It’s comedy but more like The Boys. It’s serious but people are going to find it amusing. And then [Bruce] Campbell coming on to it was like—I mean, I based the character of Anton Tobias off of Campbell’s performance in Evil Dead 2. When I first got the script for Idle Hands it was about a mother that got possessed. There was one little bit where my hand got possessed before she did. That scene was in the addition and I went into Sony and did this whole—now looking back at this I basically ripped Campbell off. I was such a gigantic fan as a kid of his, and my friend and I had done the hand stuff so many times. We had a trampoline, and we would flip ourselves. You know, I was a twelve-year-old kid that was in love with Bruce Campbell’s characters in those movies. And I went into that Sony room and I did that.
Bruce Campbell, I’ve always been a gigantic fan. So, he came on second and I was like [mind blown]. Then we get this young cast of up and comers, and we’ve started shooting it. And we’ve relied on old-fashioned filmmaking. Robert Kurtzman, the SFX team, has all prosthetics. It’s like you walk onto where we’re shooting and there’s rooms of like heads, and a whole team of people painting, and we got hydraulic bubbles. It’s like we’re back in filmmaking. I’m sure there’s going to be a few where they’re gonna have to do CGI because there’s some car throwing and all this stuff, but we’re back in old school prosthetic world. I’ve veered completely from the question but I’m just so excited to be on this project. It’s been a lot of fun. We’re shooting chronologically, so the first week it’s been a lot of just normal stuff, like the stuff in the toy store where we’re just employees and setting the story and whatever. We just started on Friday night getting into the creature shit. You know, I get attacked and battle it out with a skateboard. It’s just awesome stuff, man. It’s really awesome stuff.
That sounds like a fucking blast.
It’s so cool. And next week we get into some really—I mean next week, Monday, Tuesday, and the following week, it’s all creatures and shit like that. And it’s a very original kind of creature.
There’s been a lot of filmmakers returning to practical effects lately because it just looks better having an actual monster on set instead of something CG.
We had the team that did the [old lady] from Doctor Sleep. That [old lady] was awesome. It was frightening, the old lady in the bathtub.
Have you ever worked with Bruce Campbell before?
No. I spoke to him on Twitter a few years ago. I had to confess my love for him and where Idle Hands came from, and he sent me a nice little message. I never knew that we’d be working together. I wish I could go back and tell twelve-year-old me that you’re gonna work with this guy one day on something just as wacky as this stuff.

2020 Horror Challenge: [36/?]
↳ “As usual, marijuana saves an otherwise disastrous day.” Idle Hands (1999) dir. Rodman Flender
Plot: A teenage slacker's right hand becomes possessed with murderous intent.
Starring: Devon Sawa, Seth Green, Elden Henson, Jessica Alba & Vivica A. Fox
This movie... is completely bonkers. lol But I had a lot of fun watching it. Especially after something so heavy like The Mist. This was the perfect cure to me being sad after that. There’s literally no rules here (characters come back from the dead in unexplained ways, Anton’s evil hand is never fully explained, etc.) but this isn’t a movie to try finding logic in it. I did find it entertaining tho. Devon Sawa was totally game the whole time. Seth Green & Elden Henson both steal it with their funny one-liners. Vivica A. Fox was clearly having fun. Meanwhile, Jessica Alba was kinda just there. lol But yeah, this was definitely not some masterpiece. Idk if you can even call it good, but somehow this thing worked for me. Like, I said I was having fun so... win? lol

Chapter Two
Steeeeve [9:32:08PM]: Hey, it’s Steve.
Bucky Barnes [9:32:47PM]: hi steve
Steeeeve [9:33:15PM]: I had a lot of fun meeting up today.
Bucky Barnes [9:33:39PM]: me 2
Steve huffed staring at Bucky’s second generic response. He was usually so much more lively. Steve took a long sigh and started texting what he needed to get off his chest.
Steeeeve [9:35:21PM]: I’m sorry if I came off as confused or misleading.
Steeeeve [9:35:26PM]: I didn’t mean to do that. But I am kind of confused right now.
Steeeeve [9:35:35PM]: I spent so much time liking the idea of you, and you in real life was even more amazing than I could have expected. But I’ve never dated a guy before and I never expected to want to. And now I think I do.
Steeeeve [9:35:49PM]: I’m sorry. This probably isn’t any less confusing. I’m apparently really bad at this lol. I guess what I’m trying to say is, will you go out on a maybe-date with me? I want to try and see how I feel. I don’t want to string you on, but I want to try.
Bucky stared at the flurry of texts coming into his phone. Damn, serial texter much? He read and re-read Steve texts a few times, chewing nervously his bottom lip, trying to find a response. He wasn’t willing to let his heart get trample on again, not after Brock. But he really liked Steve and if there was a chance Steve might like him too, it was too good to pass up. He had a distinct feeling he was going to regret it, but he tapped out the only honest response he could think of.
Bucky Barnes [9:44:13PM]: i like u 2 steve. i get that ur confused. lets try ur maybe-date and see how it goes? if it goes well cool, if not no hard feelings. k?
Steeeeve [9:45:20PM]: Thank you. Really, thank you for being so great about this. Can we get dinner one night this week?
Bucky Barnes [9:45:55PM]: im free any nite but tues
Steeeeve [9:46:10PM]: I can do Friday night around 7. There’s a really great Mexican place a few blocks over from the gym if you’re willing to schelp all the way over to Park Slope.
Bucky Barnes [9:46:31PM]: sounds good. see u then
Bucky sighed, putting his phone away into the pocket of his favorite old hoodie. He had a date. A maybe-date, but for some reason that felt good enough for him at the moment.
xxXxx
Steve discovered the best part of being able to text Bucky wasn’t just that their chatting was no longer limited to when they were both near a computer, but that they now had a full range of emojis, memes, and GIFs at their disposal. He could now send Bucky random funny things he found during the day and he felt a little proud when Bucky would send back a string of laughing emojis, knowing he had brightened the other man’s day a little. He had worried with their maybe-date looming things might be a little awkward but if anything they were going even better. By the time Friday came Steve was genuinely looking forward to their maybe-date. He had even gone out on Wednesday before his shift at the gym to pick up a set of clothes that were distinctly not gym wear. He couldn’t remember the last time he bought a button up shirt but he had to admit the blue and white checked shirt looked nice on him. He was trying not to stress over the maybe-date but he felt this gnawing need to know, definitively, if he was truly interested in Bucky, or just the fantasy of WinterBae.
Steve raced home Friday to shower and change, hoping he’d left himself enough time to do all that and still make it over to Los Aztecas in time. Taking the time to slick back his hair and do a quick shave, Steve was hustling out the door only to realize he’d forgotten the bottle of wine once he got outside. After a fast double back for the wine he was on his way, making it to the tiny authentic Mexican restaurant with three minutes to spare. He had barely stopped walking when he saw Bucky hopping out of an uber. Steve felt a little flutter at the sight of Bucky and he took it as a good sign.
Bucky looked amazing in his dark skinny jeans and a silky looking black shirt. A minimalist necklace was around his throat, the simple bar resting just below the wings of his collarbones. Steve noticed Bucky had swapped out the cheery beaded bracelets he’d worn on Sunday for a set of sleek silver and leather ones. He looked like he belonged on the cover of a fashion magazine and Steve felt ridiculous in what Sam had teased was his bible salesman outfit.
“Heya.” Bucky greeted warmly, extending an arm for a half hug.
“Hey,” Steve echoed, hugging back with his free hand. “Ready for the best Mexican food of your life?”
“Definitely, let’s go.”
Steve led Bucky inside the little restaurant, its cozy decor making the place feel intimate instead of cramped. Steve had called ahead for reservations so they were whisked off to a table as soon as he gave the concierge his name. Bucky was looking around fascinated, taking in all the colorful decorations.
“It’s really something, huh?” Steve prompted with a smile.
Bucky nodded in agreement, “Yeah, it’s beautiful. So much art packed into so little space. Thanks for bringing me here, Steve.”
“It’s one of my favorite places in the area, mostly for the tacos but also for the art. I got my degree in fine art before I switched gears and went back to get certified in exercise science.”
“That’s quite a switch.” Bucky laughed.
“Art will always be my first love, but it’s not exactly profitable. And once I got healthier I knew I wanted to help other people do the same. I was really sick as a kid and didn’t hit any major growth spurts until I was almost 21. After that, I worked out a lot getting used to my new body and fell in love with the gym.”
“Wow. I’m glad you were able to get healthier, and it’s sweet you’re trying to give back to others with that.”
“Do you go to a gym? I won’t be offended that it’s a competitor, I swear.”
Bucky barked out a laugh, “No. God, no. I am perfectly happy with not having abs or a totally flat stomach as long as waffles exist.”
Steve couldn’t help his eyes dropping to Bucky’s stomach which honestly couldn’t have had more than the smallest layer of padding across it. “That’s okay too. Waffles are pretty great.”
The waitress stopped by to uncork their wine and drop off a basket of fresh tortilla chips and salsa verde.
“What did you bring?” Bucky asked as he took the glass of white wine Steve had poured him.
“Albariño. A waitress here recommended it a few years ago and now it’s my go to. It’s light and crisp, and kinda citrusy? I’m not a wine snob but it’s damn good and goes really well with tacos. I hope you like white wine, I forgot to ask.”
“I’ve yet to meet a white wine I didn’t like, so you’re safe.” Bucky sipped the wine and his eyes lit up, “Oh yeah, this is good. I’ll be hunting this down next time I go shopping.”
“You can get it over at the little wine boutique near the farmers market in Sunset Park. They always have this kind.”
“Nice, I’ll have to check it out. My sister will love this the next time she visits.”
The conversation flowed as the basket of tortilla chips disappeared, only ebbing when their platters arrived and they tucked into their food. Steve had ordered his usual taco platter while Bucky opted for the taquitos platter, an assortment of slow roasted meats wrapped in thin crispy shells. He let out a groan at his first bite that had Steve’s heart stuttering in his chest. The maybe-date had mostly felt like a friend-date up until that point, though Steve had to admit there was a tiny flutter of like there too. But the noise Bucky made and the expression on his face had Steve thinking anything but friends only thoughts.
Bucky caught Steve staring at him as he licked a dribble of sauce off his bottom lip. He hadn’t gotten a distinct date-date vibe from Steve but the look on the blonde’s face was priceless. Bucky thought he probably had made a similar one the first time he saw Devon Sawa in Wild America when he was 12. He had never stood a chance of being straight after that. Testing the waters a little bit, Bucky smirked at Steve, making it abundantly clear he’d been caught staring. Steve flushed and Bucky’s smile widened. There might be hope after all.
Steve wasn’t sure if it was the wine or too many tacos but by the time dinner was over he felt glued to his seat. He hated knowing the evening was coming to an end and wanted to do something, anything, to prolong it. The waitress dropped off the sales receipt with a pen and Steve tried to steady his hand as he signed his name. He knew he needed to muster up his courage or he would be saying goodbye to Bucky in mere minutes.
“Thanks again for paying.” Bucky said after draining the last of his wine, “This was really nice.”
“It was.” Steve agreed, seeing his chance, “You know, I have another bottle of this wine back at my place if you wanna come over for a bit. Maybe you could help me find that movie app you were telling me about for the Fire Stick?”
“Sure, I’m happy to help. I won’t say no to more of that wine either.” Bucky stamped down the hopeful cheering in his chest that Steve was inviting him over. The poor guy probably didn’t mean that anything would happen other than wine and tech help but Bucky could always dream. He would be respectful though, he resolved to himself. He’d never dated a guy who was questioning his sexuality before and Bucky didn’t want to push too far too soon. Bucky figured it was best to let Steve set the pace and just hope his heart didn’t get run over in the process.
Steve’s apartment was only four blocks from the restaurant, a second floor walk up in an old converted brownstone. It was nicer than Bucky’s little hole in the wall apartment and even had a small second bedroom that Steve had set up as a home office. After giving Bucky a quick tour, he led them to the kitchen to pull another bottle of Albariño out of his cabinet. Passing a stemless glass to Bucky, he poured them both a generous amount of wine which they carried out to the living room so Bucky could show Steve the app he’d mentioned during dinner. A few clicks and a quick download later, Steve had access to a ridiculous amount of free movies.
“This is so great.” Steve praised, clicking through the different options. “Oh I love this one!”
“Hm?” Bucky looked up from his glass to see Steve hovering over 10 Things I Hate About You. “Oh that one is great. I remember wanting to be Patrick Verona when I grew up after seeing that.”
Steve gave an amused side eyed look at Bucky. “I think you did a decent job.” he teased, throwing on the movie out of sheer impulse.
Bucky laughed, “You’re sweet. But god knows I’ll never be that smooth.”
“You’re better off than me. I’ve been told I’m hopeless on more than one occasion.”
“You hold your own, Rogers.” Bucky assured him, reaching over to take Steve’s hand in his, stroking the pad of his thumb over the ridges of Steve’s knuckles.
Steve blinked slowly, looking from their joined hands up to Bucky’s face. It felt good, that fluttery feeling stirring in his gut at the contact. He gave Bucky a smile and squeezed his hand gently, making sure his consent was clear.
The movie rolled and they sipped their wine as Patrick did his best to woo Kat. Bucky slowly nudged closer to Steve until he was pressed against his side, his head leaning against Steve’s shoulder. He was warm and comfortable and completely unwilling to move by the time Letters to Cleo played into the credits.
“I can’t believe it’s after eleven already.” Steve yawned.
Bucky yawned next, set off by Steve’s. “Same. I had a really good night, Steve.” He looked up curiously, wondering if Steve had found any new revelations on their maybe-date.
“Me too. This was… really nice. Hey, um, I know this was a maybe-date, but maybe um…”
Bucky shifted so he could sit up taller and face Steve while he fumbled for words.
“I, um, I’d really like to kiss you right now.” Steve blurted out, looking equal parts excited and terrified.
Bucky’s smile was like the sun. “Okay, yeah.” Bucky reached out to cup Steve’s cheek, going agonizingly slow to give Steve a chance to bolt if he needed it. He leaned up a little and Steve craned his neck down, tentatively meeting Bucky’s lips with his own.
A soft press, a pause, another soft press, and then the kiss deepened, Bucky’s lips parting to slot Steve’s with his. Steve let out a choked off moan, unable to believe what he was doing and how good it felt. He let a hand rake through Bucky’s hair and it only made him want to feel more of the silky locks. The scent of cedar and teak from his cologne filled Steve’s nose and though it was very distinctly male, Steve couldn’t get enough of it. It was so much more than he could have expected but also not nearly enough. He was breathing raggedly when he finally pulled back, repressing a shudder at the well kissed expression on Bucky’s face. His full bottom lip was shining and red, his eyes heavy lidded and his chest heaving just as much as Steve’s.
“Whoa.” Steve finally breathed out in amazement.
“Yeah, whoa.” Bucky agreed. “So does this help in sorting out if this was a date-date?”
“I think it was definitely a date-date.”
“I’m glad. And do you think you’d want to try another date sometime?”
“When are you free next?” Steve chuckled, only half kidding.
“Easy there, pal.” Bucky warned lightly, patting Steve’s ridiculously broad chest. “We’ll find a day again soon.”
Steve nodded, knowing Bucky was right for wanting to take things slow. He led Bucky over to the door, giving him one last quick kiss goodbye before the brunette headed out into the early summer night. Steve was still floored by his own reactions to Bucky but it felt so right that he couldn’t agonize over it for long.

Now & Then (1995)
Tumblr media
Date watched: 26 October 2019
Guys, I want to talk about this movie
Tumblr media
I just don’t know where to start because this movie means so much to me, and I love it dearly, and when I think about my childhood, I think about this movie.
Tumblr media
It means a lot to me because I distinctly remember watching it (over and over) with my best friend, Lisa, and so whenever I watch this movie I think of her.  The VHS copy that we used to rent from the video store had this music video in front of the movie (WHY? I DON’T KNOW):
youtube
Yes that’s Ant & Dec or as they were in 1995, PJ & Duncan and no, I DON’T KNOW WHY.
I just remember it playing in front of this movie because we USED TO DANCE TO IT.
Look, it’s kind of a banger, right?  In front of Spiceworld they had the Spice Girls song “Stop” which we also used to dance to, because we were 12 and that’s just what you did.  We were powerless to resist.
Tumblr media
So this movie, like, in the great pantheon of movies that I love, of which there are many, this is right up there.  One day I might try to rank them in order of favourites (Titanic is number 1, spoiler alert) but I would genuinely struggle with that because they’re all just “my favourite”.
So let’s talk about the greatest movie of all time featuring this banger line-up of LADIES:
Demi Moore
Melanie Griffiths
Rosie O’Donnell
Rita Wilson
Christina mutha-fuckin’ Ricci
Gaby Hoffman
Thora Birch
Ashleigh Aston Moore (RIP)
And featuring the likes of Bonnie Hunt, Hank Azaria, Cloris Leachman, Devon Sawa, Janeane Garofalo, Brendan Fraser and various others, it is a CAVALCADE OF STARS.
Tumblr media
Now, this movie, which I love so much, has 28% on Rotten Tomatoes.  Twenty-eight percent.  What fucking percentage of that is old white dudes WHO DON’T FUCKING GET IT?
And the audience score is 83%.  What does that fucking tell you, right?  THEY KNOW NOTHING.  NOTHING.
Tumblr media
Should I even try to break down the plot or should I just keep gushing about how much I love this movie?
Okay, basic plot - they are four girls, they are best friends who make a pact to be there for each other whenever they need each other.  They grow up, move away, get married but when Rita Wilson is about to have a baby, they all come back together again.
IT’S BEAUTIFUL.
It’s a coming of age story but for girls and as a girl, I APPRECIATE THAT.
Tumblr media
Also, the soundtrack is a FUCKING BANGER.  If you like 70s pop music - and I do - you will fucking love this soundtrack.  It is full of bops.
This movie also features a cameo by a super hot and scruffy Brendan Fraser and guys, there is always room for Brendan Fraser.
Plus you’ve got peak Christina Ricci and like, I’m straight, but I think there’s a part of me that’s always been a little bit in love with Christina Ricci.  Let’s talk about her character in this movie, Roberta.
Now, Roberta is a tomboy with three brothers, she tapes down her boobs, she wears masculine clothing and she’s not afraid to get in a fight.  I’m not stereotyping here, but... she’s gay, right?  Like... yeah?
My only quibble, if I have one, is that Rosie O’Donnell plays the grown up version of Christina Ricci because they look literally nothing alike, but also... I can’t unsee Rosie O’Donnell as a lesbian, so... in my head canon, Roberta is a lesbian.
But they specifically mention in the movie that she has a boyfriend, and she is the only one who has a moment with a boy, when she kisses Devon Sawa (get it girl).
Tumblr media
I’m going to watch Casper soon, don’t worry, I’m all over the Christina Ricci movies.
Anyway, my point is this - you cowards.  If this was a 2019 movie, she’d be a lesbian.  But it was made in the 90s, so she’s not.
It is my only criticism.  She could still be a lesbian and kiss Devon Sawa.  Just saying.
Maybe she’s bi?  Who knows, honestly.  She’s a doctor in the movie, I’m sure there was college experimentation.
In any event, Roberta is my favourite character in this movie because she’s the best.
Tumblr media
Also can we talk about how Christina Ricci is also the best?  I looked up her age and she’s almost 40 and I cannot believe it.  I have grown up with both her and Kirsten Dunst, like... it’s weird as fuck.
Anyway, do yourselves a favour and watch this movie.  It is the fucking bomb and the critics, once again, do not know what the fuck they are talking about because this is a 10/10 banger.
Tumblr media
Directed and written by women as well, guys.  In 1995.  A classic.

Love in the Forecast?! Cindy Busby Reveals Her Celebrity Crush, Favorite Movie and Why She Loves Hallmark
BY K.L. CONNIE
Tumblr media
Cindy Busby has been acting since she was a child and is best known for her role as Ashley Stanton on the long-running series Heartland. She has been a staple among Hallmark Channel films, including Royal Hearts and fan favorite Unleashing Mr. Darcy. She’ll have two new movies premiering this summer on Hallmark Channel. Her next film is Love in the Forecast with Christopher Russell, which premieres Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m. ET. Premiering later this summer is Romance in the Air with Torrance Coombs.
In Love in the Forecast, Busby plays Leah Waddell, the local TV weather forecaster who’s not just a pretty face—she’s studying to be a meteorologist. While her on-air persona is sunny and warm, off-air she’s stormy and the forecast for her dating life is bleak.
When she decides to put dating on the back burner to spend the next year focusing on her education and budding career, everyone from her barista to the delivery man (Nelson Wong) start courting her. Things get even more complicated when a new neighbor (Christopher Russell) moves in next door.
Busby recently chatted with Parade.com about… what else? The weather!
Did you do anything special to prepare for your role as a meteorologist like talk to IRL weather forecasters, binge watch The Weather Channel or even stand out in the rain?
Hahaha, I’ve had my fair share of standing and walking in the rain having lived in Vancouver, that’s for sure. I did some of my own research about pressure systems and barometric pressure and learned about the science of weather. It’s important for me to have a feel for the characters I play and know what I’m talking about. Back home, my parents leave The Weather Channel on all day long in background, so it’s like I was born to play a weather girl!
Do you prefer a sunny day at the beach, a snowy day skiing down the mountainside, or walking in a field of flowers during an April shower?
That’s a good question! I love all of these options, but I’m definitely a water girl. I could spend the whole day swimming or walking on a beach in the sun (with sunscreen, of course). My alternate option would be a quiet walk in the forest in the rain.
Tell us something fans might not know about Christopher Russell.
Christopher Russell is HILARIOUS! He and I had incredible banter and would joke all the time. We found ourselves constantly laughing at each other. That’s one of my favorite qualities in people. I really enjoy having fun while I’m at work and he made that easy. He’s talented, handsome, and most importantly, super down to earth.
Tell fans something they don’t know about you.
I’m obsessed with dollhouses and miniatures. I’ve been fascinated by them for as long as I can remember.
You’re in quite a few Hallmark movies. What keeps you coming back for more?
The Hallmark fans! They’re the best and so supportive of my work. As long as they keep asking for more, I’ll be there!
You were part of Heartland for several seasons. Do you think Ashley might make a return after all these years? Did you think the show would still be going strong after 13 seasons?
It’s truly incredible that Heartland is still going strong after 13 years, and they just got picked up for a 14th season. I remember being SO excited when the pilot got picked up back in 2008. You just never know what will make a show work or not, but in this case, I think it’s the cast and crew. It’s one of the best I’ve ever worked with. I still cherish all my Heartland memories. I’m not sure if Ashley Stanton will ever come back, but I know that if they asked me to I would try my very best to make it work! I loved playing Ashley so much.
You had the chance to film in Romania for Royal Hearts and work alongside James Brolin. Tell me more about your experiences there and working with Brolin, who also directed.
I remember getting the call about the opportunity to work on Royal Hearts while driving from Utah to Los Angeles. I had to leave for Romania the next day. It all happened so quickly and it was the most exciting and nerve wracking experience and ended up being one of my favorite movies I’ve ever done. James Brolin is one of the funniest, hardest working, talented and big-hearted people. I learned so much while shooting with him. He has so much experience and wisdom and I soaked it all in. The entire cast was THE BEST, most being from England. We laughed constantly and were always hanging out together while on set and on our days off. We never got sick of each other! We were just so thankful to share the experience of shooting abroad together.
Will there be a sequel to Royal Hearts? What did you love most about Romania?
I spent most of my time shooting in Bucharest and Sinaia in Romania. I even got to go to Transylvania, which is the country right next door and the home of vampires (I’m obsessed with vampires), so needless to say, I was in my element. Romania has incredible architecture and tons of interesting history. Most of all, I loved the people. I had no idea how many movies have shot in Romania before I went. I wish there would be a sequel! As far as I know, there isn’t, but you never know, Hallmark’s known for surprising their fans with sequels.
Unleashing Mr. Darcy was one of the most popular films on the Hallmark Channel. It even spawned a sequel, Marrying Mr. Darcy. Why do you think UMD became so popular? What was the secret ingredient?
I feel like the secret ingredient was the chemistry between the cast and crew on and off camera. We were all so surprised and excited to find out there was gonna be a sequel because we wanted to hang out again.
Tell us something fans might not know about Ryan Paevey.
Ryan is really good at memorizing lines. He has an amazing memory. It’s really impressive. He’s also a very generous person.
Who was your first celebrity crush?
Devon Sawa in Casper. When he came down those stairs to dance with Christina Ricci at the end of the movie my heart melted. I think every girl my age probably felt the same way.
Who’s your current celebrity crush?
Ryan Reynolds in ANYTHING. I love his sense of humor!
What was the last show you binge-watched?
Normal People, I was so sad when it ended. I can’t wait for Season 2! I highly recommend it!
Is there a movie you can watch over and over again?
Back to the Future or Groundhog Day! I’ve probably seen both of them 100 times, not even exaggerating.
What’s your go-to song to sing in the shower?
Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston.
What’s the best thing you’ve ever eaten?
Anything at this restaurant, Nook, in Vancouver! It’s my favorite and they can do no wrong.
What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten?
Uni at a sushi restaurant. It was a work dinner with our director and my co-star and the director wanted us both to try it, so we did. We both tried it with smiles on our faces but we both did not enjoy it.
What book you’re currently reading?
City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert.
What’s your all-time favorite book?
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
Love in the Forecast premieres Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m. on Hallmark Channel.

Writers talk a lot about characters taking over the story, and I’ve definitely experienced that. With my latest WIP, though, I’ve had the opposite happen—the story left the characters.
I’m a character-first, premise-second, plot-third kind of writer. Or a premise-first, character-second kind of writer. Whichever it is, the plot comes decidedly last. All my early notes are about who my protagonists and their orbital characters are. I felt entirely confident I knew all three of them so well.
But as I developed The Coven School on Three Sisters Ledge (20k+ notes and counting) a very strange feeling began to creep over me. The characterization of one of my three protagonists, Cordelia Vaughn, felt—off. Wrong. Her relationship with Malcolm Forsythe undermined the story, threatening to take over the plot and do a disservice to the other characters. This had never happened to me. Character writing is what I live and breathe. I’m fic-famous (in my tiny fandoms) for my ability to spin a convincing AU. This had to be a mistake.
But the nightmare was real. I had developed a theme and a story and a plot that required a different characterization for Cordelia to make everything come together. I made this realization weeks ago. But the thing is I fought it.
That’s because, as a fic writer at heart, I cast my books and I give them OTPs. It’s literally half the fun for me. So I had this vision for Malcolm/Cordelia that was much too dark, too adult for my adult/new adult crossover book. Cordelia needs to be more vulnerable, Malcolm needs to be someone else entirely.
On Three Sisters Ledge is YA grown up with consequences, so Cordelia’s ghost boyfriend needs to be an older version of Devon Sawa in Casper, Thackery Birch in Hocus Pocus. He can’t be Malcolm Forsythe as I know him. Malcolm belongs to the Gilded Age; On Three Sisters Ledge needs to tie back to the 1870s for plot reasons. So Nathaniel Ayer was born, still a necromancer, still a ghost. But a radically different character whose entire view of death was warped by his service in the Civil War as a very young man (This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War is one of the best nonfiction books I’ve ever read, can’t recommend it enough).
On Three Sisters Ledge needs more development to come together, but I already feel it’s so much stronger for this change. Thing is, I’m still hung up on the Malcolm/Cordelia of it all.
Malcolm and the sharper, more bitter version of Cordelia belong in an altogether different story. One with the same rules of magic and overall themes, but much darker, much more romance-oriented. So that Cordelia is now Rebecca Vogel in all her tarnished glory. I took all the character work that didn’t belong in On Three Sisters Ledge and put it into a new WIP, Possession.
So—all that to say—Possession is going to be my nanonovel—official synopsis and aesthetic and WIP page forthcoming.

‘Black Friday’ – Bruce Campbell on Playing the Anti-Ash and Reuniting With ‘Evil Dead II’ Effects Artist [Interview]
Tumblr media
In the wake of Hallmark Christmas movie , Bruce Campbell is back in the horror genre with Black Friday, a horror-comedy that was released on VOD today.
Campbell stars alongside Devon Sawa (“Chucky”), Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), Ryan Lee (Goosebumps), Stephen Peck, and Michael Jai White (Spawn) in Casey Tebo‘s horror-comedy, a group of characters stuck in a toy store with a horde of “demonic” shoppers.
Here’s the plot synopsis for Black Friday: “On Thanksgiving night, a group of disgruntled toy store employees begrudgingly arrive for work to open the store at midnight for the busiest shopping day of the year. Meanwhile, an alien parasite crashes to Earth in a meteor. This group of misfits led by store manager Jonathan (Campbell) and longtime employee Ken (Sawa) soon find themselves battling against hordes of holiday shoppers who have been turned into monstrous creatures hellbent on a murderous rampage on Black Friday.”
chats with Bruce Campbell in a brand new episode this week, which touches upon everything from Evil Dead to holiday horror movie Black Friday. What drew Campbell to his latest horror role, you might be wondering?
“I just wanted Casey [Tebo] to realize he’s not hiring Ash. I didn’t take the part because I thought I could make this manager into a macho hero. The whole point is… and that’s what I think makes most of the movie interesting… these are not the people you want to [get attacked] by aliens, especially on their worst day,” Campbell explains. “When they’re already completely overrun.”
He adds, “So I liked it because of that. And I liked the fact that my character is a loser manager of a loser toy store; that’s who you attack with aliens. Because now I’m interested.”
One of the other interesting things about Black Friday is that the film reunites Campbell with Robert Kurtzman, who he first worked with on Evil Dead II way back in the 1980s.
“The cool thing about Bob Kurtzman is that Bob goes all the way back to Evil Dead 2. So we called him “Grumpy Bob” back in those days… he had a little more edge to him, as the artiste special effects guy. Now he’s been beaten down enough he’s just like a normal guy. Bob’s great,” Campbell explains. “One of the nice things about hanging around for a while is you start to run into people over and over again. And some people are like a bad check… you don’t want them coming back but they keep coming back. And other people, like Bob, it makes you feel comfortable in your job. Cause you go, ‘Oh, Bob’s got this.’ You know that it’s gonna be fine. Bob’s worked on high budget, medium budget, low budget, nothing phases him. I think he did a great job. It’s really fun to come back and work with “Grumpy Bob” again.”
Will Black Friday end up spawning sequels the way Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead did? As always, “it all depends on how it does,” Campbell explains to The Boo Crew.
“If it does well, those producers will milk that teat. I don’t know. I hope so,” he notes.
You can listen to The Boo Crew’s full chat with Bruce Campbell below. And be sure not to miss Casey Tebo’s Black Friday, now available in select theaters and for digital rental/purchase!

Role Models
I’ve talked a lot about the guys I’ve loved on TV growing up but I’d like to give a shoutout to some of the girls too. Those girls I wanted to be exactly like when I grew up. They make a pretty solid list and they’re pretty much all from the 90′s.
Cher Horowitz. Not Alicia Silverstone, but Alicia as Cher. She was my fucking idol when I was 12. I just remember being so obsessed with her hair. It was so long and soft and perfect, and at 12 my look was all kinds of busted and I honestly thought it was humanly impossible for me to ever have hair as beautiful as Cher’s. But it wasn’t just the hair. She also got attention from all the boys and seemed perfectly aware of it and oblivious to it, all at once. And even though she was popular, she was super kind and well-meaning. I loved her and that movie so much I’ll probably watch it on my death bed.
Christina Ricci. The 90’s gave me two reasons to love her: Now & Then and The Addams Family. I was just beginning to carve out the chip on my shoulder when I was around 12, so of course I loved Wednesday. Sullen, morbid pre-teen who never smiles? What’s not to love? It’s also why I loved Dawn from Welcome To The Dollhouse and Enid from Ghost World. Pretty much any girl with resting bitch-face had my heart in the 90’s. But back to Ricci, I mostly idolized her in Now & Then. She played the tomboy who taped her growing tits down and never wanted to talk about feelings because she was quietly grieving the death of her mother. She was so tough and cool and complicated, and got to kiss Devon Sawa, so she just won all the points with me. I desperately hoped that my girlfriends saw me as the Roberta of our group. Only I wasn’t nearly as cool or complicated and I never would have taped my tits down.
Fairuza Bulk. My idolization of dark and misunderstood girls reached its peak with my love for Nancy from The Craft. I think most girls my age would agree that she was the coolest fucking thing we’d ever seen. She just happened to be a total wackjob. Even the fact that she was a wackjob was cool. The movie literally ends with her strapped to a bed in a mental institution and I still thought oh my god she’s the coolest.
Britney Spears. Admittedly I only idolized her because she was so fucking perfect-looking at the height of her career, and my obsessive quest to be considered attractive by boys had her on a pedestal. Honest to god one of the reasons I started going to the gym was because a friend once told me that I - while a few pounds overweight at the time - could have a body like Britney if I wanted.
“I’m too skinny to have a body like Britney’s,” she said. “Even if I worked out every day I would end up looking like Nelly Furtado, at best.”
Not only was this assessment hilarious to me, it was also highly motivating. Britney also came along when I was just discovering my own sexuality as a woman. I was light years away from being as sexy as her but she was certainly an inspiration. Then after years of loving her solely for her sexiness, she had a mental breakdown and shaved her head in front of the world and that’s when I really fell in love with her.
Rizzo. The bad girl to end all bad girls. I remember first watching Grease and not understanding why Danny and Sandy were the lead characters. Rizzo and Kenickie were EVERYTHING. They were so badass, having unprotected sex in the back of his car; and she was so badass, skipping class and taking that terrifyingly greasy drag-racer guy to the dance. She was so fucking hot and so painfully cool and honestly I still want to be Rizzo when I grow up.
Valerie from Beverly Hills 90210. I think I’ve already touched on her unfortunately significant influence on me as a teenager, but it bears repeating here. That shady, law-breaking, boyfriend-stealing smokeshow could NOT have come at a worse time in my impressionable adolescence. I wanted to be exactly like Valerie and arguably I got my wish. No regrets but damn. Life is not like Beverly Hills 90210, and girls who are like Valerie in real life are not cool at ALL.
Lydia from Beetlejuice. My favourite Winona Rider character. Not only was she dark and misunderstood, with the coolest gothic hairstyle I’d ever seen, but she had one person who understood her. Is it weird to say that the connection between adolescent Lydia and undead grown adult Beetlejuice gave me hope for my misunderstood heart to find love? I know they were never in love, but I always kind of wished they were. How can you not love someone when they’re the only person in the world who understands you? Where’s MY Beetlejuice?
So yeah, it’s interesting to write all of these role models out. Evidently I idolized a lot of bad girls who had a kind of base-level resentment towards all of existence; and then some impossibly attractive girls. What do all of these role models tell me about myself? Probably nothing. Except I have a lot of fuckin movies to watch today.

Author Honesty Hour
I was tagged by the babe @docharleythegeekqueen. Thanks love! i’m assuming “imagine” means fanfic, so I’m running with that.
1. Which is the imagine you’re most proud of?
Yes Sir, because I created something that I never intended to but magically it turned out pretty good :) I’m very attached to those two characters and it’ll be really hard to say goodbye someday. I’m also very proud of High for This as well. I think that has the best thought through plot I’ve ever written.
2. Which is your least favorite?
The Bar, because I feel like it’s unfinished but I don’t have the inspiration to go back to it. Maybe someday.
3. If you were to recommend one to read to your mum/mom?
Ha! None. My mom knows I’m writing and I’ve explained what fan fiction is. But I’d never let her read it. I think she’s dying too. I included characters based on her and my sister in Be Careful What You Wish For and I’ve considered letting her read that one, except it gets a little PG-13. And well, it’s my mother. No.
4. Which one would you consider re-writing?
I’m going to rewrite Yes Sir with the OFC once the series is done and if I have the courage, self publish it (scary!)
5. Biggest regret in an imagine?
My biggest issue is not plotting series out when I start them, but all of my series haven’t been planned so maybe someday I’ll get my OCD under control and plan it first.
6. Biggest success with an imagine?
I think Yes Sir has been the most successful, not just cuz of all of the love it’s gotten, but because of my personal success as a writer. I’m proud of myself for building their world and I love them so much.
7. Your imagine with the most notes?
High for This has 1,647 on Tumblr.
8. Your imagine with the least notes
When It Was Easier has 33 LOL It’s angst with an OFC (not Tumblr’s fav combo) and I just posted it last week, so I’m hoping it gets some life.
9. What do you think makes a good imagine? Tips?
PLEASE check your spelling and grammar; nothing is more of a turn off than a fic that has clearly not been read over a second time. It’s a pet peeve of mine and a writing rule that you should not include dialogue in a long paragraph. Every time you have dialogue, hit enter and start a new line, and then again for the next paragraph. Don’t combine it all into long paragraphs. And I know writing summaries totally sucks, but unless it’s a writer I already know and love I do not read fics that do not have summaries. And for god’s sake, include warnings and the Read More break!
10. When’s the next update on your works?
Yes Sir Part 17 will be out by Wednesday 1/17 and a super smutty Dean fic probably this weekend.
11. Number of followers before you started writing and after?
I came into Tumblr posting Marvel fic so it took me awhile to get to know fellow writers and readers in that fandom. Uh now? 3,172 wonderful followers putting up with my ridiculousness.
THE WRITER
1. Which character do you love writing for?
Dean. I love Dean Winchester with all my heart.
2. Which character do you dislike writing for?
Anyone that’s not a Winchester.
3. What’s your favorite AU to write for?
I’ve loved the Professor Winchester AU. Got an idea for a Western AU for the future.
4. What’s your least favorite AU to write for?
I haven’t written for any other’s.
5. What do you hope never gets requested?
I don’t take requests but I won’t write smut for any actor that’s married. Love reading it. Can’t write it.
6. What do you wish was requested more?
No requests :)
7. Thoughts on writing Smut/POC/Curvy/MxM/FxF?
Obviously I love writing smut. I’d love to write POC OFC or ship (I ship Dean x Cassie so hard.) In my head, the reader is always curvy cuz I always am LOL. I don’t know about MxM, maybe if the ship inspired me. I’ve written one FxF and definitely want to again. Bring it all on!
8. Which account is your biggest inspiration in writing?
I’m here cuz once upon a time @thewife101 encouraged me to share my fanfic with the world and to sign up for Tumblr. Her writing is beautiful and I was a total fangirl of her’s before I had the courage to email her about Evans. I also have admired @avenger-nerd-mom since I started because I love her work, she’s always been supportive, and her work is consistently excellent. If my self publishing days ever come, they’ll be the two getting all my obsessive questions LOL Oh and @mytreasures4eternity47 spoils me rotten with feedback and reblogs so I like to keep my sister wife happy.
9. How long have you been an imagine writer for?
Jeez, I figured out that I wrote fanfic when I was a tween, but of course I didn’t know what it was then. Devon Sawa x the chick in Little Giants fluff. It’s terrible.
10. Any upcoming secret works? 🤔
Secret? Why would I say? :) I’m focusing on ending Yes Sir By July (I know, I know) and a handful of Dean fics. One Sam fic for a challenge. I have to stop signing up for challenges, I have an addiction!

The Fanatic (2019) Movie Review | Screen Rant
Tumblr media
The third directorial effort by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, The Fanatic is billed as a psychological thriller that deals with topics such as entitled and toxic fandoms. In today's day and age, where online petitions to alter franchise canon or remake entire seasons of TV shows are more prevalent than ever, this subject matter definitely had the potential to be timely and relevant - perhaps doing a modernized riff on Rob Reiner's Misery. Unfortunately, the film doesn't set its ambitions much higher than being a disposable genre piece. The Fanatic is a bizarre, and only fleetingly entertaining, thriller that struggles to find its footing and is plagued by a muddled screenplay.
John Travolta stars in The Fanatic as Moose, an autistic man who idolizes the stars of the horror movies he watches religiously. While attending an autograph session at a local collectibles store, Moose is turned away by his favorite actor, Hunter Dunbar (Devon Sawa), and becomes upset. With the help of his paparazzi photographer friend Leah (Ana Golja), Moose discovers where Hunter lives and frequently pays visit to the actor's private residence. Tensions then rise between movie star and super fan, threatening to boil over at any given moment.
Tumblr media
The Fanatic's concept is an interesting one, but Durst and co-writer Dave Beckerman's script isn't executed in the best manner. Their decision to have Moose be on the spectrum is a little troubling, since it comes across as a simple explanation for why the he doesn't know any better as his actions become increasingly creepy. Moose's autism doesn't really serve a purpose thematically or for the character; it gives Travolta a superficially showy aspect to play up, and it's unfortunately the butt of some ill-advised "jokes" where others mock Moose's speech patterns. In some respects, Moose being autistic makes him an easy target for a celebrity like Durst to outwardly voice their frustrations about fan culture, in particular the super fans who obsess over every project. From the beginning, viewers know something is "off" about Moose, so it isn't entirely surprising when he snaps.
More issues in the script arise from its confused messaging. With Moose clearly positioned as the weird stalker who's in the wrong, the assumption would be Hunter is the unfortunate victim. In some respects, this holds true, as there are scenes of Hunter being a kind father to his young son, going over the importance of brushing teeth and tucking the kid in at night. However, there are other sequences where Hunter is portrayed as a truly unlikable person, namely in his interactions with Moose, where Hunter becomes increasingly volatile as the film moves on. This prevents Hunter from being completely sympathetic as a person having his privacy invaded, despite Sawa's dutiful efforts to make the most of the material. Additionally, The Fanatic's third act eventually reaches an absolutely bewildering conclusion that will leave fans scratching their heads more than anything else.
Tumblr media
What further hampers The Fanatic are some baffling creative choices by Durst (including, yes, an unfortunate Limp Bizkit needle drop). These can pull the viewer right out of the movie and make it difficult to buy into the story. Suspension of disbelief is a necessary component of filmmaking, but Durst stretches that concept to its absolute limit here - mainly evidenced by the laughably bad "Star Map App" plot device. There's also too much time spent on a subplot depicting a rivalry between Moose and street performer Todd (Jacob Gordnik) that goes nowhere, but seemingly important developments are completely discarded and brought back at arbitrary times. To be fair, Durst is able to craft some suitably eerie set pieces akin to a home invasion film, but that isn't enough to make up for the deficiencies in other areas.
The Fanatic toys with some fascinating ideas, but only scratches the surface of the true conflict at hand. This ultimately makes it a disappointment and a hard film to recommend to anyone who isn't already a major fan of the principal players involved. A tighter script that was more nuanced or subtle (this film features several obvious pop culture references, too) probably would have made it a better experience. This era could definitely use a defining film that tackles toxic fandom head-on and explores the impact that has on both fans and creators, but The Fanatic isn't it. At least with its planned release to streaming platforms, it stands a decent chance of finding an audience that might be interested.
youtube
The Fanatic opens in select U.S. theaters August 30 before hitting streaming. It runs 90 minutes and is rated R for some strong violence and language throughout.

Final Destination (2000)
Tumblr media
Date watched: 17 November 2019
I watched all five of these movies in one day, and let me tell you something – I was fucking PARANOID about my household appliances/general safety in my house afterwards.  When I was cooking dinner, I was genuinely concerned about accidentally killing myself.
Fuck you, Final Destination movies.
I had only ever seen the first two and not the last three, but as I've now seen all five, I'm going to do my ultimate ranking of all the movies in this post for your ease of convenience. From best to worst:
Final Destination
Final Destination 2
Final Destination 5
Final Destination 3
Final Destination 4
I would actually say that I enjoyed Final Destination 5 more than FD2, but I think FD2 is the better movie.  FD5 introduces a weird plot twist that I'll get into in my review of that film.  FD2 is certainly the most memorable one of the franchise, I think, if only for the horrifying car crash sequence at the start.  But I'll get into that later.
Tumblr media
This isn't going to be very coherent because having watched all five movies in one day, I am having trouble recalling what happened in which movie, though I did write out a list of wtf moments and all of the deaths.  Perhaps I could do a death ranking per film as well?  Why not?  Let's do that.  Let's go all in on this thing.  I wrote copious notes.  May as well put them to use.
And another thing, pre-FD1 discussion – I used to think Devon Sawa was super hot but I don't think that anymore.  My tastes have changed.  Although, Kerr Smith in this movie?  10/10 would bang.  What a babe – he's a total silver fox now as well.  Aged like fine wine, that one.
Tumblr media
ALSO – Ali Larter's name, in this movie, is CLEAR RIVERS.  AMAZING. AND NO ONE THINKS IT'S WEIRD.
Alright, FD1, here we go, and I'm going to keep this abridged because every single one of these movies – bar the 5th – have exactly the same plot:
Devon Sawa is going on a high school trip to France with 40 of his high school friends.  He has a vision of the plane exploding and everyone dying, so he freaks out and gets kicked off the plane with like, six other people, and then the plane explodes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The authorities are baffled.  Devon Sawa is baffled.  Everyone is baffled.
So then they all start dying one by one – one dude is strangled by the clothesline in his bathtub (question – he lives in a house, do they not have an outside clothesline/dryer, why are they relying on hanging their knickers in the bathroom, it's weird to me), then the hot blonde is smushed by a speeding bus in front of everyone (there's so much smushing in these movies, my god) and the nice teacher lady is just completely fucked over by her whole entire house.  I often think about this sequence and how horrifying I find her death. Poor nice teacher lady. Seann William Scott is decapitated when a speeding train dislodges a piece of metal, and Kerr Smith finally cops it in the end when he takes the full force of a billboard to the face.
It's funny how death always waits until they know something is coming before striking.  I mean, six months pass between Devon Sawa and Ali Larter thwarting death and nothing happens to any of them, but as soon as they're in Paris, death is like "now it's time to fuck shit up".
And now for the plot of every single Final Destination movie (except for the last, which is ever so slightly different):
Vision of major disaster in which every character dies one by one
Survival of major disaster ensured by main character
Every survivor starts dying one by one in horrible ways
Main character and girlfriend/boyfriend/friend try to figure out wtf is going on
They finally figure out they're on death's list and they need to save people in order to survive
They narrowly avoid death in the end
But it turns out they haven't avoided death and in movies 3, 4 and 5 they die regardless
In 1 and 2 the main characters survive
The first one is boosted by its cast, which is a solid late 90s/early 2000s teen movies cast – Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Seann William Scott (as the nerd of all things).  Both Ali Larter and Devon Sawa survive but both later die (I'm sure she refers to him dying in FD2, and then she herself dies).  The only movie in which the two main characters definitely don't die (onscreen) is FD2.
Tumblr media
Here are some other random thoughts:
There's a recurring them in these movies to make the bedrooms of the main characters as creepy as possible but then they gave up on that in FD3.
There's another recurring theme of people in these movies being absolutely obliterated by buses speeding through residential/business areas at 100 miles an hour.
Tumblr media
THAT BUS IS GOING SO FAST.  What is it, the bus from Speed?!
Ali Larter's parents in this movie are just randomly MIA and nobody says anything about it.
Not only are there speeding buses in America, but when they're on the narrow streets of Paris, there's yet another speeding bus.
Things always seem sped up between the initial vision of the disaster and the actual disaster happening – I mean they were on the plane for a good five minutes before the explosion in the vision, and yet it's like a minute when it happens "in real life".
Disaster ranking:
As disasters go, the plane crash was pretty horrifying.  In terms of the other disasters in the movies, honestly, they're much more spectacular.  I will give this a 9 for realism, but overall a 5 because I wasn't dazzled.
Tumblr media
Death ranking, from worst death to best:
Death by speeding bus – so contrived.  We've seen it before guys, let's get more creative with this bitch;
Decapitated by piece of metal that flew up from under a train – I mean, yeah, but like, let's go bigger;
Strangled by inexplicable clothesline in a bathtub from which you are unable to get up because the tub is slippery and you cannot get any traction so you just hang there with a cord around your neck like a damn fool;
Smashed by a sign that came out of fuckin' nowhere on a quiet street in Paris – it was certainly unexpected, RIP Kerr Smith; and
Stabbed in the chest, after the following sequence of events occur – pouring boiling water into a mug then getting spooked and throwing the boiling water at the thing that spooked you (nothing, it was nothing), then pouring freezing cold vodka into said hot mug causing it to crack, dripping vodka on the wooden floor as you walk across the room, then dripping vodka down into the back of your computer, which, even though it's turned off, begins to spark and smoke and causes a fire, then the computer monitor explodes sending a chunk of glass into your throat, and then you slip on the vodka on the floor and crash into the kitchen island, and reaching up to get a tea towel to stem the flow of blood you knock over your knife rack and a butcher knife embeds in your chest, and then when someone is trying to help you they accidentally push it all the way in.  And then the entire house explodes.  That's a convoluted death and it earns best death of the movie for this movie.
Tumblr media
Famous last words, Kerr Smith!
