My experience with Analog Horror/ARGs and why you should check them out

Marble Hornets: the classic, and a big favorite of mine for obvious reasons. I cannot stress enough how good and spooky that series is, and the ToTheArk videos gave me nightmares, love it! <3

If you're into Slenderman stories, you should definitely check it out. The acting is very well done and the story is awesome overall :)

The Sun Vanished: the ARG that started my interest for ARGs, and especially enigmas/internet puzzles. Unfortunately I was not smart enough to figure the stuff out by myself, so I just watched explanations on it. Highly recommended if you like post-apocalyptic settings and subtle horror.

The Mandela Catalogue: possibly the series that brought back my interest for these things. I have only watched the first two seasons of it, as I sadly lost interest after a while, but from what I have watched, I would recommend it to those of you who like horror with religious themes (which is a big thing for me) and most importantly, trust issues. Do keep in mind this series deals with more serious and dark topics, though you have probably heard it already.

Local58: the analog horror of all analog horrors, Local58 barged in before TMC took the spotlight. There is so much going on and all of it is very interesting and scary. America's pride leads to its doom, the moon can control electronic devices, and weird creatures spread through the world. If you like stories that leave you not understanding what the hell just happened but loving it anyway, you will love Local58.

Rocket Archives: A single-video series that has unfortunately been taken down for reasons I am not certain of. But if you're curious what it was about, the video presented a reality where us humans were forced to leave Earth with how hot it was getting, and moved to contained bubbles in space. Suddenly, uh oh! The sun's getting closer! Outer Wilds moment! Everything is melting! Humans are gone and the sun is... alive???

Analog Archives: made by the creator of Rocket Archives, has also been taken down but can still be found re-uploaded. The series is slightly similar to Local58, as in it also focuses on broadcast hijacking used for ending off humans. The series also includes a few religious topics that can get very dark. I love it. "Nature Show" makes me tear up with fear every time.

Gemini Home Entertainment: ALL-TIME FAVORITE MOMENT!!! I don't think I need to explain why I love this one so much. GHE leaves a lot to your imagination/speculation, while also twisting your head directly into the direction of the threat and forcing you to look at it while you squirm in fear. GHE is subtle in the most obvious way, obvious in the most subtle way, and most importantly, IT'S COSMIC HORROR, BABY!!! THERE IS A PLANET IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM THAT GOT HERE UNINVITED AND NOW IT WANTS TO EAT US!!! UGHHHH I can't put in words why I think it's so good, it just is. Watch it. The Gardeners are cute, I swear. There's even a plush of them.

Monument Mythos: something something alternate realities, something something time loops. I have not watched all of it, barely even half, but I deemed it a little bit too confusing for my brain. BUT! If you're into things that boogle your mind, you might really like this series! I mean, world monuments are alive, what could be scarier?

But, seriously, if you like gross, you are certainly going to like this series. It's meat, and it's alive. Although, I did stop watching it because it got a tad too graphic and violent for my taste, but if that doesn't bother you, then I recommend it a lot! The editing is soooo good, and some of the creatures are very likable and cute ^v^ (the others are gross and I do not want them near me I do not WANT FUCK OFF)

Honestly its hard to even limit this within the confines of starting the actual manga. I genuinely think I'd have to say my real first impression of Laios was the "autism be damned, my boy can work a grill" joke that gets passed around a lot 😭

Don't make me choooose... okay I'm gonna do three:

1. Assembling Falin's bones with Marcille

The humor. The patience. The slow realization that, despite how absurd of a task it is, it is actually all possible. The moments of admiration for the way skeletons work, the love of the details, the care of assembling all three skeletons just to make sure they get Falin right. Iconic scene.

2. Killing Falin

"Unable to make myself accept. Unable to make myself resist" lives in my soul now idk what else to say. Life is so vibrant and horrifying and raw and beautiful and to let yourself fully be a part of it you must take up space. You must consume. You must fight. You must take and be taken from. Ourgh

3. Talking Marcille down

I love that he looks so goofy on his way up to her. I love the context of how much he refuses to give up on her leading up to this, and how he refuses to give up on her now. I love how everyone is part of this scene, but he's the first one to cross the threshold. I love how she almost blows him up but can't do it (fun fact: this exact situation/post was how she killed Mithrun a couple of chapters ago. It was close).

I love the way he appeals to her mostly just with messy honesty, and I love the silly three rules callback. It's such a sweet chapter.

Also honorary mention for the final page of the story, which gets me every time.

Idea for a story

I'm actually currently fiddling with a longer story concept dealing with the question of Laios needing an heir. Dungeon Meshi is grounded enough in politics that it genuinely feels like a question that the characters will have to grapple with at some point. At the same time, there's no way that like arranged marriage and even having kids in general are not messy topics for Laios and I don't think anyone involved would want to force him to be miserable.

(I also don't personally like the idea of Falin as his heir ftr, bc I think forcing Falin into that role sucks and I don't think anyone would go for it)

So how DO they deal with the issue? Idk! I might write a long meandering story about it! Maybe! I want to, at least.

Unpopular opinion

Ughhhh I don't realllly want to poke this with a stick but yeah I definitely think my most generic (apparently????) Unpopular Opinion with Laios is just that his relationship with Marcille is meaningful and loving. I personally don't view it as romantic and they mean a lot to me as a platonic-life-partners kind of thing, but I also think that dividing relationships in general into Ships TM and Definitely Not Ships isn't really appealing to me personally. I just care them.

(at the same time I really do worry about trying to write about them and it being taken as romantic despite me very intentionally not framing it as such. idk, navigating this stuff is complicated.)

Favorite relationship

UGHHHH LIKE. It is probably him and Marcille. But it's so hard to rank that against him and Falin. Both relationships mean a lot to me and I love them and I love to think about them.

Because him and Marcille have more on the page interactions to dig into and because I don't see them discussed as much, I do tend to gravitate to Marcille & Laios stuff above all else. But like.... don't make me actually commit to picking.

Favorite headcanon

I can't think of a strong answer for this so I'm going to make one up on the spot: I think he giggled to himself soooo much when he included the winged lion in his king outfit but made it so that it looks like the wolf head is eating it. I think he continues to giggle about it years later. I think he gets dressed in the morning and puts on his cloak and goes "get ate, idiot" as he fastens it around his shoulders.

Oh actually for a more genuine headcanon related to the story thing I mentioned above: I think Laios is really good with kids but would be scared of having any of his own. I think he'd have trouble with the classic "I don't want to mess them up the way my dad messed me up" abused kid struggle.

OH. MY. GOD. THIS IS SOOOO GOOD AND GENIUS UGHHHH I LOVE IT SM! Screams... the idea of Dottore admitting to himself that he looks "sad" is something that he thought was impossible but!! He can't deny that his alternate self looks goddamn miserable!! His counter-self would look "normal" to anyone else, but perhaps because he's connected to him in an odd way, he can just sense his other self's sadness. Ugh his alternate self would probably be disgusted with him. There are so many things to be done, and instead of focusing on the important stuff he's fooling around with... love? With... you? A person he supposedly... loves? It's disgusting really, how low he's fallen. He should know better than to believe in such things, after the neglect he went through. And you. His other self doesn't like you for being such a distraction. What could possibly be so interesting about you? So you only leave Dottore's counter self with a few words - that you didn't know what happened to your alternate self, whether they were alive or dead... but you hoped that he could meet them one day, and maybe then he would understand.

You're more sad about it than Dottore of course, meanwhile he's more contemplative about it? He thinks about everything his other self said and he can't help but think he's so... wrong. He counters every single point his alternative self made. You've actually helped him with so many breakthroughs in his own research, learn new things he couldn't have understood on his own. You help him regain his energy when he's tired, you help him relax and rest when he constantly pushes past his limits. You... love him, and that's helped him a lot more than he initially realized. And that just makes him more resolved to the fact he can't lose you.

It was a typical morning in Nevermore. It was actually a beautiful sunny day today. Some of the light from the sun shined through your window.

The birds on the trees were chirping and you could hear some chattering noises from a few of the students outside your dorm.

Actually, probably all of the students were up by now.

Except you. You pulled an all nighter last night to study for an exam in miss Thornhill's class.

"ughhhh...shit. my head aches soooo baddd" You woke up groaning. You turned to the other side where your nightstand was.

"5:35 a.m!? Shoot, I'm gonna miss breakfast!!!" You said jumping off your bed and sprinted to the bathroom to get yourself ready.

To be honest, you really didn't want to get off of your comfortable bed, I mean who would want to??? It's literally still 5 am in the morning. But, you had an exam at 7:30 a.m and missing it would cause you to get an F on your report card.

And since you were classified as one of the top students, you wouldn't want that now would you?

You wore the typical black and blue uniform, You styled your hair in an easy but quick hairstyle and placed a white bow on it to add a bit of personality.

You looked over to your roommates bed, Yoko. "Of course she isn't here" you playfully rolled your eyes.

You got your school bag and waved goodbye to your black cat. "Bye Selvester. I'll be back later, don't get into too much trouble, okay kitty?"

You said waving to the adorable yet grumpy kitty that was sitting on an open area infront of your window.

When you arrived at the quad you saw some of the students had finished eating and was going over some lessons for Miss Thornhill's exam.

You quickly went over to the table where your friends were sitting.

"Y/N how was your sleep? Actually, I guess it was good since you over slept" Yoko said as she and the others laughed and giggled.

"We can tell with the dark circles under your eyes." Wednesday said, she was right behind you.

"Don't call me that unless you want me to tear your larynx off." She said with her usual deadpanned expression.

"oh right... hahahahah" you said with an awkward laugh. Your cheeks were lightly coated with pink blush.

"oh Y/N? Where's your food?" Enid asked concern lacing her voice.

"Oh, right. Uhm I kinda forgot but honestly I think that they already ran out and all they have is rancid cereal, yuck" you said cringing at the thought of it.

"No don't." Wednesday said handing you a tray of your favourite breakfast foods.

"Hello everybody, today as you all know, we'll be having a very big exam. It'll contribute 70% of your grade in my class. So I hope you guys studied well." Miss Thornhill said with a smile as she placed the copies of the exam on her desk.

She handed out the exam papers and made it clear to use a pencil incase of any mistakes.

You were rummaging through your bag for your pencil pouch but to your dismay, you couldn't find it. You then remember where it was. It was on your desk.

'shit' you mentally cursed at yourself. How could you be so forgetful? At this point, you were practically sweating.

A certain someone beside you noticed your distress and slided you a pencil.

You noticed the pencil roll to your side of the desk and you picked it up. You were about to turn to your side in order to thank the person who gave you the pencil but, they beat you to it.

"You don't have to thank me. I just thought of giving it to you since you looked like an idiot about to cry."

She rolled her eyes and noticed that you were about to move closer for a hug, but you stopped yourself. That made her lips curl up just a little, not too much for you to notice though.

She was glad that you remembered that she doesn't enjoy skin to skin contact. She felt like there were disgusting butterflies in her stomach.

She didn't understand why but, everytime she sees you she feels the same way everytime. Confused, happy and other disgusting emotions.

You made her feel things. Things that even she didn't know she was capable of feeling. You were her love, and she was yours. However, both of you failed to recognize each other's feelings.

"Alright everybody, it's already 7:30 a.m which means, exam time!!!" Miss Thornhill said throwing her hands up in the air to show how excited she was.

"I wish you guys well and I hope everybody passes with flying colors! You each have 1-2 hours to complete this exam since it's a little long. Oh and before I forget, no cheating or talking to your seatmates please." She said glancing over to a certain student, that caused them to giggle.

And with that everyone started to answer their exam, some of them already being stuck on the first question.

Before you started to answer your exam, you quickly looked at her, flashed her a smile and a "Break a leg, Addams." You said with a grin on your face.

I LOVE this moment. I love that Trent is casually drinking tea and eating his orange, and Colin went straight up to him with 'Isaac knows" with no prelude. I LOVE that in Amsterdam it was Trent that asked Colin, "How do you do it?" as in asking for knowledge, and in here it's reversed. It's Colin coming to Trent. I love this bonding soooo much. It's so important. An older queer with a younger queer.

I love him, you honor. Imagine having Trent Crimm, Ted Lasso, and Jamie Tartt as your good friends that you can go to ans talk. Goals.

Queen!! Also, I love how Rebecca is often working with tea and/or biscuits on her desk. A foodie that isn't afraid to show it. She's come so far since s1, but then again, it's been said multiple times that real Rebecca is silly and wonderful, so I love seeing real Rebecca <3

In here, he feels threatened, vulnerable, so he shoots that "I just wanna be left alone" and hopes she lets it go. I see you, protective layers. I see you. I wonder if it's some kind of trauma/issue from childhood that he's so repressed. Bc I've been there & sometimes I still fight that or feel ashamed to talk about some things so I keep quiet or don't explain properly, but it's sooo much better to talk it through. And I guess Roy won't go to therapy, so Rebecca being like This is his way of therapy. She just doesn't want to deal with that bullshit.

I love her. She's great.

I need Nate to get his big boy trousers on and stop sucking up to Rupert. I hate Rupert so. fucking. much. Is there a thing as an anti fanclub? Because I feel like I'm in it during moments like this. Rupert's ego is already higher than the sky, but Nate is making it even worse. Ew.

I'll just leave it here. The way Rebecca doesn't hesitate to physically comfort Keeley. It was in s1? When she said she's not a hug person. She totally is. The real her. She's like female Roy Kent that is less repressed and will do anything for her people. Seriously, as soon as things shifted for her in the show, she had my heart. I saw her potential before things shifted & I loved that for her. She's amazing.

I feel like Jamie is best friends with the entire team. Look at them. They love him. They were playing before Ted interrupted them. No idea how it's called in English, only in my native language, but that's so sweet.

it is so difficult to write miles coming out as gay to hobie because i know that hobie’s fine with it but it’s so hard to. like me and hobie are on the same levels of sexuality abstraction and as i’m writing Miles i have to write from Miles’s POV of it, so he’s much more… simple. about it. but knows that Hobie is on another level entirely with understanding. i’m not even being rude, it’s like when you’re being trained at work and you know there’s way more they aren’t telling you but it’s more of learned personal things, like how to get in the trance state to pass time, stuff you can’t just know immediately if you already have walls around yourself to be “the good one” or something similar. ygetit. continues under cut

but anyway hobie comes off, sort of, as “i don’t care, this wasn’t important at all to me” and i. ughhhh like. as a black autistic guy this moment is important to me because i always come off like that even when shit is super vital to me, i’m gonna remember it forever, i’ll have dreams about it, etc etc. but at the same time, sometimes it just doesn’t reach me emotionally as much as it would the average person, so i can’t force myself to show that average amount of happiness or excitement. and i know hobie wouldn’t do that either! and miles is very sensitive in a moment like this, so it feels painful writing miles as this “hobie didn’t get hyped immediately i need to never come out again” type because we’ve never seen him (atsv version) in a state like this, it feels like i’m faking this entire fic. which. i am. but you get it right?? you see my issue???

anyway hobie: calm and happy that miles came out, already suspected it but stayed silent, is already tired, kind of thought him being chill would make miles be chill because he’s aware that miles is more of a low-key type of person

miles: just told the second coolest person he knows and admires his deep secret and another person’s (ganke’s) deep secret after being given an ultimatum for their relationship, did not even think to tell his parents and already failed telling his twin, who also told him that ganke might have had a crush on another girl in the story before they met, is met with Hobie’s stony face and shrug, every emotion hits at once. guilt guilt guilt at lashing out.

he sees hobie as having it all figured out and being rude, thinking “i already know this so i don’t realize how hard it is for you to get to this point, whatever get out of here i was trying to sleep” and feels. HE FEELS.

n e ways. that’s kinda how i want this to go but knowing me and the characters that take over when i’m not looking, this probably wont stick lol. watch i take this moment out entirely i’ll be soooo pissed if i do that. :/

combinatorics by heyginger. patrick is in luvvv with joe when joe starts online dating during tour, and basically tension and feelings and etc etc ensue. the first time i read it i was like running around my house and squealing out loud and everything bc it's just that perfect, and it really only gets better upon re-reading bc you pick up on little things you didn't notice the first time! the tension and the misunderstandings are, at times, painful and you really feel everything patrick is going through, but it really keeps you on your toes! i feel like the characterization is perfect in this and i just can't get enough. also this is the fic i read to my partner (if you are a true josephtrohman fan and saw the post HAHAHAH), he really enjoyed it and is interested in me reading more of my favs to him bc of it, so it even has the normie stamp of approval ;)

hedonism by rosiedoesfic. patrick is in a toxic relationship with pete, but patrick and joe begin an affair and it leads to a mess of feelings and fighting and etc etc. it's angsty and it hurts and everything like that but god it's also sooo brilliantly written. rosie has this amazing gift of writing the voices so realistically, including and especially the complexities of joe's inner monologue! i mean not that i know joe’s inner monologue irl obviously but it feels so realistic…this fic a punch in the gut to read, and obviously i prefer when fob are like Friends rather than fighting but this fic is insanely beautiful that i can look past that preference of mine lol. one of the fics i've re-read the most because it's been a fave for a long time. so so so heart-achingly GOOD.

thnks fr th knckers by rosiedoesfic. a pair of panties gets thrown on stage at a show, and the floodgates open essentially, with patrick at the centre of it, grappling with finding it hot and also thinking it's weird basically. because of this internal dilemma, the tension (sorry i don't have a better word it's always tension lol) is like soooo perfect, like patrick fighting it but he can't UGHGHBG. it's a little naughty obviously but with some real plot and this is probably the singular fic i've reread the most throughout my life!!! i'm not even normally into panty kink stuff (not a problem with it, it's just something that's never been like a big turn on for me or anything) but this fic is AMAZING.

above are my three favest faves EVER and i go absolutely nutso for them, as you can tell!! i kind of cycle through the three of those for which one i call my all time favourite depending on my mood <3 if you only are interested in reading some of these, PLEASE PLEASE read the above three!!! i could go on forever and ever about them and just really leave this reclist there at those three, but just cuz i loveeee to talk about fic i'll touch on some others

in general, you really can't go wrong with any of rosie's fics!! i've read literally every single joetrick fic she's ever written and all of them are amazing, seriously very much our joetrick queen (hi rosie if you're reading this <3). some specific highlights for me in her catalogue include fairytale of new york (a really neat holidays fic with a hint of magic, i just re-read it the other day even tho it's july and it's so so so good) and technology (another fic written for the same prompt as combinatorics, all about online dating and catching feelings!! ughhhh amazing). i also would be remiss to NOT mention the world's not waiting which has an almost legendary status in joetrick/fob world, and rightfully so bc it's SOOO good and sweeps you away and then you blink and your whole day was spent just reading this fanfic lol...and it's been on a bit of pause BUT rosie has promised she's planning on resuming when she has time so better get to reading it so you're ready whenever there's the next update anon ;)

heyginger's got some other great ones too but there are only i think like 2 other joetrick fics on heyginger's page (both are shorter but SOOOO GOOD - bdsm and good fortune. since they're shorter i'll let the fics speak for themself!)

intensity by likethepaint. perfect lil fic about patrick's temper, or rather, patrick's intensity, and stuff basically, and no further spoilers :) but really good!

brace yourself and find a safe place by distortedmya. amazing fic about joe coming out as an adult, and it's soooo sweet <3

summer of like by heartofthesunrise. yes it may be the petekey title but it more focusses on j+p with some petekey drama off to the side that ends early on actually if i remember correctly. so dang sweet and the way the writing places you in the ambiance is kind of magical (i first read it in the winter and reading it truly felt like it was summer!)

Hi anon! Thank you so much for this ask! I’ll be answering as Zach and Violet! In response to this post! Putting it below a cut because it’s kind of long!

P.S. And if you haven’t noticed, I’m slowly going through and tagging any asks send to me about Zach and Violet with the tag #ziolet asks (right now I’m up to October of last year in adding the tag…it’s gonna be a bit, lol).

Oh my goodness, yesss. I love him, but I’ve got a short temper….stop snickering Zach, it’s not funny, I can’t help my height!

I’d say his whining can really get on my nerves at times. Usually it’s endearing and cute, but sometimes….ugh, it’s like nails on a chalkboard when he keeps whining and whining and just won’t stop (see below for the proof, Donita will back me up)!

I also do not like his volatile temper. When Zach is upset he’s prone to not think twice about what he’s doing. He just goes full steam ahead and ends up creating a huge mess or hurting himself…and I’m there to take the brunt of his anger, either having to deal with his ranting and raving when he didn’t get his way or having to drag him out of his messes. And, no surprise, this can lead to more whining…

Then there’s his treatment of animals….ughhhh, I love Zach, but I also love animals soooo much! I hate that he uses them for spare parts leading them to be hurt, exhausted, and emotionally drained as a result. They are living creatures and deserve love, kindness, and respect!

Zach gets upset when I attempt to foil his plans all for the sake of making sure the animals are healthy and happy, but I can’t stand by and tolerate his actions. Zach is so capable of creating wonderful inventions without the need for animals as the power source. And it bothers me and annoys me that he can’t see that for himself.

Zach’s Response:

Vi is my world but she can just be ohhh, oh so annoying! Don’t give me that look, you know you can be…

She’s always seems to be in this chipper mood and is trying to make the best out of everything. She’s nearly bouncing with joy with every step she takes, and is always smiling or singing. I love her smile and voice but when I’m not feeling up to it it’s a lot to handle.

Then she can be so touchy and feely…she is always putting her hands on me and hugging me and kissing me (and she’s in that annoying excited and chipper mood at the same), and it can be so overwhelming! I love to feel her skin against mine, it’s pretty calming actually, but when the minx is there grabbing onto me and hopping up and down it’s just too much (see below for how I look when she begins bouncing like that cartoon cat Tiger Bounce A Lot or whatever).

And there’s the problem with her wrecking my inventions. She’s just like those Wild Rats wanting all the stinky, cute animals to be living ‘free and in the wild.’ She doesn’t hesitate to unlock their cages, or override the Zachbot’s codes to let them release them. She’s even snatch some right out from under my nose once they were in the inventions!

I’ve found her feeding them and cooing at them like they are babies while my inventions sat motionless. And all she can do is blink those huge, beautiful eyes at me and whimper about how the varmint wasn’t happy, about how I can do so much better without the varmints. She even has the audacity to say I’m smarter than this! Argh, it’s just soooo annoying!

Is drawing characters dancing a trope? I mean it should be. Bob's Burgers is soooooo so good for giving these muppets silly funny dance all the time, like none of them look like they know how to dance, they just go wiggling and shaking their ass and it's soooo fun. Their noodle bodies are made for it. DRAWING them is even more fun like ughhhh, we just go fricking wild with the poses, it gets so expressive and energetic

Also, also, drawing characters arguing/doing pointless stupid shit in general gives me euphoria

Don't Talk 'bout Me Like How You Might Know How I Feel

Summary: Back to school.

"H-hey, dude!" Nino rose from his seat to kiss both of Alya's cheeks.

"Hey," Alya returned the favor and plopped down. "Ughhhh!"

Despite his nervousness Nino grinned as Alya let her head fall back and look up at the ceiling. "Rough day?"

Alya slid her hands over her face before sliding them down. "They published some trash in the opinion section about Kagami and I am this close to letting him have it."

"Same guy? I'm surprised they still hire him."

"We don't even know each other and I hate him viscerally!"

"We could always tp his house," Nino suggested jokingly.

"No, that won't work. He lives in an apartment."

Nino chuckled.

The waiter came by with two coffees.

"Thanks dude. We're good for now."

"Oh thank god." Alya grabbed her steaming mug of black coffee and sipped.

"Can you even taste anything while burning your tongue like that?" Nino smirked.

"No comments from the guy trying to stay awake until next week," Alya replied, gesturing to his quadruple expresso mocha.

Nino lifted his drink. "Perks of being the Turtle. No crashes or jitters."

"Lucky! Remind me when that happened?"

"Sometime during university. Woke up after an all nighter with no hangover. Kim was soooo jealous!" Nino laughed.

Alya laughed with him. Likely imagining the look on Kim's face. "Was that before or after...?"

"A few months after we broke up, yeah." Nino thought back to that year. "We were still giving each other space..."

"... Because falling back into old habits was too easy," Alya sighed. "Man, we were dumb."

"Morono-sauruses," Nino agreed, staring at his coffee.

Alya scoffed but grinned. "What about you? I hear you finally performed in a club. And not just any club, Le Chemin Sombre!"

"Adrien and I got married!" Nino exhaled in a rush.

"Are you fucking kidding me!?" Alya slammed her palms on the table.

"Not so loud!" Nino stage whispered, leaning in.

Alya glanced at the handful of other patrons, who gave her a look at her outburst but otherwise returned to their own mornings. Copying Nino, Alya lowered her voice and scooted closer. "WTF dude? What do you mean you're married!?"

"Well we went to City Hall and filled out the paperwork..."

"Nino, I swear if you don't-"

"He's worried about the kids okay?" Nino ran his hands over his face. "Dude just straight up asked me to take care of them if he couldn't and I just- What was I supposed to say? 'No'!? Yeah right."

"Did you want to say no?"

"No, but... Gah!" Nino dropped his head to the table.

Alya moved his coffee to the side so it wouldn't spill. Patting him on the back.

"I'm not upset," Nino sighed. "Just... processing."

"Right... And it's got nothing to do with Adrien proposing for practical reasons," Alya stated a bit too reasonably.

"Adrien's my bro, dude. Y'know I love him more than anyone."

"Mm-hm. I know. It was kinda obvious when you became his kids' third parent."

"I just said it's a marriage of convenience."

"Actually meant before that... Way, way before. But speaking of the kids, do they know?"

"Not yet."

"Hmmm," Alya said, stressing the silent judgement.

"We're going to tell them!" Nino replied defensively.

"Uh-huh." Suddenly remembering her coffee Alya took a drink.

"We are!"

A few tables away, covered by a minor invisibility Mirage, Wayzz and Trixx played with sugar cubes.

"Oh, things just got interesting," Trixx grinned.

"Must you look at the Young Master like that?" Wayzz asked, poking her cheek with a teaspoon.

Trixx floated out of reach. "Not so young anymore. And it's not my fault your Avatar likes the dramatic ones," she teased.

Wayzz didn't deign that with a response even if he did agree.

my favourite parallel and here’s a thesis on why

1. colour palettes (to start with the obvious)

mai and king being traditional dark colour boys (everyone remembers king is a royal blue boy from bed friend?), most especially when they are fully themselves, their feelings, and their story lines. when i say fully i mean the scene we are seeing is not in relation to their other halves, and the progression of a relationship. it is purely about them.

and then jade and uea being in soft tones (cause they’re both soft boys). again most especially when the focus is on their character story line and not their relationship story line.

still on colour palettes. we know from bed friend that before king and uea fully committed to each other and were disgustingly in love, uea was a red boy. yes a soft boy but also a red boy. and now that they’re together together (and tooth rottingly adorable), uea is still a soft boy but he’s in king’ colours not his old red colours. that’s how you know, even if they’re fighting they are still unbreakable and unblemished. essentially (in its most poetic form) uea still has king with him.

2. king and uea’s outfits (self indulgent obvious one)

king in horizontal stripes and uea in vertical ones. yea do i even need to spell this one out? they are so in love and therefore they carry each other everywhere, in everything, even when they’re cross (hah get it? cause if you place horizontal and vertical lines over each other they make a cross pattern) with each other they ARE still each others. i love them.

also their visible matching silver chain necklaces.

3. how each pair has decided to meet up with each other

king and mai at a table sitting up > setting up a game plan > always the action characters > ready to move straight into solution stage > how can we fix this stage

versus

uea and jade who are sitting comfortably on jade’s apartment floor > talking about feelings and hearing each other out > creating a space to just be vulnerable and open > do you see why i call them my soft boys?

4. the difference in lighting between the two scenes

mai and king with their harsher more “locker room energy” lighting (tying into my whole game plan set up) versus jade and uea with their soft quiet warm lighting very conducive to late night deep conversation

5. the space between the characters

the way the space between king and mai is filled (pillar) because as much as they’re friends, they became friends at work. mai wasn’t in the picture till he interned there. but king uea and jade were all friends from their college days (something that still makes my heart beat out of my chest)

but if you look at the space between uea and jade you’ll notice there’s nothing. one because they are so close and such good friends there is nothing they need to separate them (metaphorical barrier who?). but also it shows that uea is giving jade the space to be open with him, with no interruptions (the way the food and drinking is interrupting king and mai).

conclusion

BRUH! i love this show soooo bad! like this studio just knows how to do production so fucking well. their entire story is weaved into every single detail in every scene. ughhhh!
