Nobody wants to hear about your cleanse.
Tumblr media
Yes. I know.
I don’t want to hear about yours either. But hey—this blog is only half for you. The other half is mine to record the shit I want to record. So, I am going to talk about it anyway.
Preamble
This winter thus far has been dark and dirty and mostly immobile.
Lowlights:
Being bedridden for 6 weeks due to an ankle injury.
5 bad hook-ups in a row, followed by a long month of celibacy.
Watching no less than 10 series (some even had multiple seasons) on Netflix...almost consecutively.
Spending the holidays solo.
Eating enough food to feed a small vegan horse.
Drinking more alcohol than the two seasons before combined.
Honestly? I spent days on end in this apartment bemoaning how I went from such a spiritual high at the end of the summer to these super low blues.
But I can’t live in the super low blues. The best thing to do is to let your self suffer for a wee bit, then pick yourself up and fix it.
I am doing that through a cleanse.
Whenever I hear “cleanse,” I think about Kelly from that episode of the office where she does the MasterCleanse. This sums it up.
Tumblr media
This is not this kind of cleanse.
This is more like I am treating myself to a retreat. But without leaving the city. Because I have classes. And I have to get a citizenship. Oh, and Canada currently has my passport.
But it’s ok. I am going to treat myself to retreat.
Resetting: The Plan
A 21-day reset followed by a 10-day Vipassanā meditation.
21-Day Detox
I have examined the areas of my life that I feel are in need of a boost. Then made a list of things that were no longer serving me that I need to boot.
Here was the list I made late one night in my head when my ex-boyfriend was sleeping over, and was snoring, and I couldn’t sleep.
Tumblr media
First thing to go: the ex-boyfriend. (Just kidding. He is nice and we love each other. Maybe I will read this line years from now and roll my eyes at myself.)
The list:
Do more yoga
Start meditating again
Just drink more water
Get my french to the next level
Quit being a wimp about cycling the hills in Brussels
Stop.fucking.drinking.
Get more vitamin D
Do a serious fast. Stop eating fries and cashews.
Stop seeing people for while
Get rid of Netflix.  Get rid of all non-work or writing related webstuff
Do more art.
Then I designed myself some resources to help.
The thing about being a decent designer is that you can make yourself motivating materials, that are 100% personalized to you. I went to the local printers and printed these in colour for €2, and hung them on my walls.
The Day Plan
Tumblr media
Download this here.
Like a real retreat, I made myself a schedule. I scheduled in my goals, and when I was going to do things. That way I don’t get to the end of the night and think “Well, shit. Now I don’t have time.”
I have the time. It is clearly laid out.
Each part of the day is divided up with time to create nice salads, meditate, work on my art or writing.
What I don’t have time for is Facebook or Netflix.
There are some notes on the bottom of the page to remind myself my other goals and why I am doing this, so I will subconsciously see them and be motivated.
The Meal Plan
Tumblr media
Download this here.
My diet is pretty clean.
When I started looking at detoxes online, a lot of them were like “Stop eating meat, sugar and caffeine.” I was like “My life is a goddamn detox.” But, that doesn’t mean I have been eating the best I can,
I have clearly been eating too many fries, cashews, and beer.
And not nearly enough leafy greens.
So, for the next 21 days, just being a plant is not enough.
I am upping the fresh greens and lowering the nuts and oils. I thought about cutting them entirely, and I might do this for a few days in the detox, but it is hard to roast vegetables or get the salt to stick to your popcorn with no oil at all.
And plus, nuts are a very important source of protein and minerals. Just not so much. A wee bit gets to stay.
The Checklist
Tumblr media
Download this here.
I love a checklist.
And I love seeing that I am doing something well at something
The daily checks will help me build my momentum (ie. I am not going to have a beer if I have 15 check marks, and I know I won’t get to check that day if I do.) so this is where this checklist comes in.
The checklist includes:
Tech detox: now I need my MacBook for work and writing. I am keeping Gmail, WhatsApp, Memrise, and Gaia. Other than that, I have cleared everything non-essential from my iPhone and MacBook and downloaded SelfControl for the first two weeks until I break the habit. Farewell Facebook. See you later Instagram. Toodles Twitter. I am off.
Nutrition: I talked about this in the last section, but I am giving myself a tick for each day I stick to my daily meal plan.
Alcohol-free: This winter I have been drinking at least 15 units a week. And that's being modest. Not only is it packing on the kilos, but the hangover stops me from meditating and doing yoga the next day, not so good. So, I put all my special drinks on the top shelf, and am giving my liver a break for the next month.
Yoga: I do 20-30 minutes of yoga every morning, which helps me stretch out the creakiness, but I’d like to up my vinyasa game and intensify my practice a bit this month. But whether it is 1 hour of yin or vinyasa, I am getting a check for every day I hit my mat.
Meditation: Meditation is an essential. I have two mediation slots in my day, one which is a simple, easy, meditation where I will simply work on time (Adding 3 minutes each day) The second mediation is either a full body relaxation meditation or one on Gaia.
Art: This is either drawing, cycle repair, or writing. All I include as art, creative expression and experience. I haven’t been to my art class since I hurt my ankle. I got tired of drawing naked people. But I am going to launch back in with my own projects this season.
Solitude Training: So, at the end of the month, I am doing a ten day Vipassana course. Part of that is going to be the silence, but also the emotional solitude. And I am going to start working on this for the detox. The people in my life are lovely, but I need to work on getting really comfortable with solitude. So, this means I am drastically reducing how much I talk to people and socialize. In exception of the plans I have already made (and school/work) I am flying solo for the next month. (Note: this also includes being celibate for the next month. Dear god. But “ITS GONNA BE AMAZING”....)
Sun: It has been so dark, which has had an effect on my serotonin levels. So, I get a check for 30 minutes spent outside. Even if it is not sunny.
Vitamin Wash: There have been a ton of studies done on vitamin supplements, and my conclusion is that they really can’t replace a diet filled with organic, fresh, phytochemicals. This being said, an intense vitamin c wash can transform your entire system, from your immunity to your mind. So, I am going supplement megadoses of vitamin c for the detox. Get into the blood. And wash out some of that cashew and coconut fat.
Vipassanā
Tumblr media
All this detoxing is really leading up to the big cleanse: the Vipassanā retreat.
If you’ve heard of Vipassanā before, you’re probably thinking: 10 days of trying to sit still and complete silence. Pretty drastic.
And while that is a part of it, it is not the essence.
The essence is taking some time to take an in-depth look into your own mind. While you meditate, you see the rising and passing away of your thoughts, which leads to deep insights into not only how you think, but life as a whole.
But it is not for the faint of heart. And it will get tough.
That's why I am doing three weeks of prep before I go.
Going to grab some blankets and head up to Dhamma Pajjota in the north east of Belgium. To sit quietly and observe my own mind for a while.
Tumblr media
I don’t know how much I will want to write during my process. Part of me wants to commit to tracking the whole thing, and the other half thinks it is better to just sink into it and see how I feel on the other side. Maybe I will find a place in between.
The detox section starts tomorrow! I am excited.
Kind of.

Let’s be clear: not all screentime is bad, but research says that 1 in 3 kids have asked their parents to put down their phones, and honestly, that makes us really sad. While we’re aware that if you decide to go on a family tech detox, you’ll be seeing a lot less of us, we still support it for the sake of everyone’s happiness and mental health. Here’s how you can start!

Tech Detox: I Failed TWICE! :’(
Instagram really has a hold of me. I broke my commitment on the first day! To entertain myself, I ended up using Facebook and Netflix. After binge watching some shows on Netflix on my laptop, I decided to learn more about some celebrities’ lives. Naturally, I opened Instagram and go through 20 posts for five different celebrities and then watch some food videos. After 10 minutes, I realized what I was doing, and I instantly hated myself. *shakes my head in embarrassment* Oh well, what is done is done, I did my two-minute plank, which felt like death by the way.
But wait, that’s not all! I went on Instagram the next day. To be fair, I was using it for school purposes on that day (kind of). I had to talk to my partner for a school assignment, and I had no other means of contacting her other than Instagram. I re-installed the app, and contacted her, got all the necessary details, and got her number, so I can text her next time. However, what I did next was very regretful. After talking to her, I thought why not look at more food videos while I still have the app, and then I will uninstall. Food videos turned into spoilers for the Netflix shows I did not catch up on and that turned into theories of what will happen in the next season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Once again, I did my two-minute plank and I quickly uninstalled Instagram. (Why do I do this to myself?!)
The remainder of the days, I did not go on Instagram again. I had much greater self-control after I punished myself. However, that urge to go on Instagram was still there, lingering at the back of my mind, so I started watching YouTube videos after three years. I was bored so often, and when I had nothing to do, I realized how much I use Instagram to kill time and procrastinate my homework. The temptation of Instagram was real. I did not think I had a problem, but now I know I had a slight addiction. (I’m not admitting it was a big one.) I am now limiting my time on Instagram to 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes before I go to sleep from the hours I used to spend. Obviously, it won’t be a good start because I will most likely spend more time than necessary, so I will once again do two-minute planks if I spend more time on Instagram than I intended to.

Riley's Notes: It's just Lian and Syntax being fluffy and domestic. I guess I should give everyone a break after that horrific post where Syntax passed out lol Also, drop theme is Soft Serve by Rook1e and park bird
Lian rolled out of bed with a soft groan, annoyed that her husband had left before she was even conscious. The mantis stretched her claws out before fully returning to her humanoid form, though she left her antennas out. She knew he loved them, and she adored the tender touches he would sprinkle her antennas with.
Once she was up and out of bed, she checked her closet. For once, her favorite black jacket was conspicuously absent. It drew a raised eyebrow from the former peach maiden, who soon shrugged and slid on a casual dress and house slippers.
The moment she came out of the hallway and into Pierre's workshop, she found two things: Her jacket, and her adorable partner, asleep at his desk. His head was resting on a throw pillow directly on top of his mousepad, and her jacket was draped around his shoulders. She knew he loved to steal her things, but this was getting ridiculous. As much as it exhausted her, though, the sight made her golden heart sing.
"Hey. Hey, bug. Wake up, bug." Lanhua snickered as her husband released a few soft French swears, and was pleasantly surprised when one in Mandarin slipped out. Syntax reached for his glasses, and the moment he had them on, he turned to Lian.
The sight of her alone soothed the residual stress from the episode he'd had that night, and any and all thoughts that were bothering him fell to a back burner. He rose to his feet, then stretched, all while Lian patiently waited for him to finish.
Lian didn't waste a single second when her partner held his arms out to her. It was nice to feel his exposed hands, and she intertwined her fingers with his. A shudder came from the spider, but he soon relaxed and Lian purred while her bug smiled, returning the purrs at a lesser intensity.
"Good morning, bug." Those words alone brought a barrage of morning kisses. It was a nice change of pace to be on the receiving end for once, and Lian wasn't going to take that for granted. She scooped the smaller Demon up into her arms to allow him more access, reveling in every touch he doled out.
"Someone's happy today."
Her voice drew a soft snicker from the spider in her arms, even as he used his metal claws to ease some tension in his spouse's back. They did have their uses, as annoying as the spinal attachment could be, not to mention painful. But, the utility outweighed the temporary discomfort that came from taking it on and off.
"Of course I am. How can I not be when you're the one that woke me up?" Syntax chuckled as Lian cooed from his words, then froze up when she kissed him. It rarely lasted, as they both had work to do sooner or later, but this time, he pulled himself deeper into her embrace. Her arms around him, and his head on her shoulder... he really treasured these moments.
Syntax flinched and shuddered, clinging to her more tightly than before. He relaxed somewhat at the sensation of Lian's fingers in his hair.
"Hey, sweetie, how about we freshen up, then head out to that cafe my brother likes so much? I'm sure it will help." The way she'd lowered her voice, softened it, it brought a degree of comfort to the spider's stress-addled mind.
"Let me retrieve my meds first, blossom, I'll meet you outside." The spider pressed a kiss to her cheek, and she repaid him in a split second, covering his cheeks with kisses.
It was mornings like these that reminded him he'd have the support he needed, no matter what came. He had Lian, he had Maverick, and he had his extended family in turn.
It put him at ease.

(via Everything You Need to Enjoy One Tech-Free Day a Week)
I’ve often wished there were a remote control for real life that let you fast forward through the unpleasant parts and pause on the good stuff just so that Everything You Need to Enjoy One Tech-Free Day a Week. There’s not, but there is a practice that will put you back in control of your time. To explain, I need to hit rewind.
Ten years ago, everything in my life was blurring together. My phone never stopped buzzing. I felt distracted and rarely present. I knew I needed a way to slow it all down.
My family and I started going completely screen-free one day a week for what we called our Technology Shabbat. We read, journaled, cooked, had friends over, went for bike rides, played music, made art, and sometimes we just did nothing.
A decade later, we’re still doing it every week (our daughters are now 16 and 10), and it’s still our favorite day. It’s made the whole family happier and more balanced. My husband Ken and I also feel much more creative and more productive after our Tech Shabbats.
While real-life remotes don’t exist, this practice seems to have a similar effect. It makes days with tech feel fast, but lets you linger on the best parts of life on your screen-free day. What’s the one day you want to feel extra long? Your day off.
I urge you to give it a try, especially if you’re feeling like you’re on your phone too much. The rules are simple: each week, don’t use your phone or any other screens for 24 hours. (My family does it from Friday night to Saturday night, because we’re Jewish, but I should note we’re not religious; you can do it whenever works best for you.)

Our dependence on technology doesn’t just erode our cognitive abilities, Horwood says. The effects also ripple into society, affecting our power to empathise with other people.
“The thing I have the most concern about regarding adolescents and smartphones is the development of empathy,” she says. We learn empathy from the results of our actions, [by recognising] the signs of emotional pain. But if you are sitting on the couch, you don’t see the impact of what you’re doing. It’s very easy to say terrible things that impact heavily on the receiver.”

be enough? | h.a
pairing: haymitch abernathy x gn!reader
summary: Reader watches Haymitch propo
word count: 500 ish
warnings: mentions of what happens to desirable victors, death (what happened to haymitch’s family), swearing, angst and fluff
a/n: written in 3rd person, wanted to try something new 😅 hunger games trending has me really thinking of new fics @nebulablakemurphy haymitch fic also a big inspiration (finnick mini series maybe 👀 been playing with an idea for awhile too) Everyone needs to read it.
Very unsure how to feel about this, feedback is highly appreciated
I saw this prompt and thought it was very haymitch
Tumblr media
In the control room they watched the screen nervously, the capital was seeing the same thing but would no doubt they would be watching with interest. That had always been how they viewed the tributes and victors, like they all were animals in a zoo.
Finnick had just finished his propo when Haymitch took stage, with a frown the other district 12 victor looked to a guy working the computer. “He agreed to this?”.
The tech guy gave a shrug, “up top said he had something to say”.
Still worried they looked back to the screen, Haymitch had been sober since reaching 13, it was hard at first for both, having to watch him almost broke their heart. But he had risen through the detox and became an almost new man.
“You’ve already heard what Snow did with the wanted Victors, but what you don’t know is what he does when you say no” Haymitch said. He went on to say how everyone he had loved was taken from him. The small details had been known to them, how the way he had won the games cost him his whole family.
By the time Snow was done he was no one to threaten Haymitch with, so he became an example. This is what will happen if you don’t agree.
His jaw tightened. Something was happening in his head, choosing what words to use. He laughed dryly. For a moment they thought he was having a breakdown live for everyone to see.
“For the last 15 years I have been in love with my fellow mentor” the room fell into a hush, all eyes found them, standing still. “The rebels will win and you will not need to live in fear, stand up and join us”.
Something else played but they couldn’t say what, was he even telling the truth? It wouldn’t be the first time he had come up with a lie to move a crowd. Even themselves weren’t a stranger to lying.
Someone called their name as they turned and ran from the room. They ran up all the stairs until what they guessed was half way when they ran straight into Haymitch. He caught them before they fell.
“Watch it sweetheart,” he laughed.
Eyes wide they stepped back, “was it real or not real?” They asked.
Haymitch nodded, watching them.
Their chest shook. “Why did you never tell me?”.
“It was a personal issue,” he shrugged.
“You being in love with me kind of also involves me." They exhaled. They looked down the never ending stairs, then back to Haymitch. “I wouldn’t have expected anything. Not kissing me, not touching me. Fuck we wouldnt even have to live together. Just you”.
“What kind of love would that be?” he mumbled, his blue eyes shining.
In return they grabbed his jacket and held up close, “enough. I would have you and that’s all I’d ever need. Wouldn’t that have been enough for you?”. His reply didn’t come come, the tears were slowly starting to fall now. “No don’t answer” you shook your head, “this isn’t easy, i know that I do”.
You brushed away a tear from his face.
“When they war is over and we have nothing to fear, i’ll tell you those three words and eight letters and we’ll go from there, okay?”.
“Okay”

A Night Out
Lian snickered as her partner stepped out of the limousine she'd hired. Sometimes there were perks to the fact that both of them had big stakes in separate companies, and tonight, she was flexing some of the yuan she received as an allowance from her father.
Unfortunately for Syntax, the bright lights of the paparazzi's cameras triggered a migraine, and his obsessive thoughts only grew worse due to how exposed he was to all of the other individuals there. He couldn't exactly be called a person, not after what Estelle had done to him. Sadly, it wasn't going to be easy for him to shut down the spiral, but he knew that some alcohol might take the edge off... or maybe the chill of some ice water would do the trick.
"Oh, come on, you silly bug. They're not going to bite you. If anyone bites, it's you and your cousin, not all of these wonderful people here to greet us... and, well, maybe me, too. I bite. You learned that last night." Lian snickered as her words made her partner blush, then took his hand and dragged him into the restaurant.
The intricate chandeliers gave away the fact that it was a higher-end venue, and suddenly, Pierre felt underdressed for the occasion. He was just in his usual lab uniform, nothing particularly appealing to anyone who might be there, much less his own partner. He knew he had to change or else all Hell would break loose. He'd never be able to stop thinking about it, and it might keep him awake.
It didn't take long for Lian to notice, and she pointed to where the restrooms were so that the arachnid could go change into the emergency outfit that he had with him. He exhaled with relief, then disappeared, out of sight, out of mind. The beautiful ruby dress he'd brought with him sure looked good in the mirror. The way it sparkled and glittered from the embroidery on it would shock and awe, he hoped. One final glance at the spider emblem on the halter neck top, and Pierre relaxed.
Maybe he was a monster, but at least he was a beautiful one... and at least he wasn't the only one here.
As Pierre added the finishing touches to his winged eyeliner, just as his brother-at-heart had taught him, he paused periodically to examine his handiwork. It didn't look half bad, actually, and for once, he didn't stress over it as much as he normally did. A smile crept over his face, and although his sharp fangs still drew some discomfort, it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. This was him, this was his body, like it or not... and one day, he knew he'd come to love it.
The moment he stepped out into the lights of the dining hall, Lian's jaw dropped, which drew a scoff from the spider she'd arrived alongside.
"What, spider got your tongue? You're drooling, orchid." The toothy smirk on the spider's face had Lian in a chokehold. Gods, he was such a pretty boy, such a wonderful little spider. She loved the way her boy wore that dress, as it hugged his subtle curves. When her pink eyes finally returning back to him, the same color spread to her cheeks as a dreamy sigh escaped her.
"A spider certainly had my tongue. You're ravishing, dear, I should take you dress shopping." The soft purrs emanating from the Deity only emphasized how completely and utterly starstruck he'd left her, and as he sat down and crossed his legs, she couldn't look at her menu. She was too busy looking at him.
Maverick's arrival wasn't as loud or as sudden as usual, and neither was he wearing any denim for once, despite it being his favorite material. The larger of the two spiders had come with his beloved partner in tow at his side, and the height difference between them was almost comical from how dramatic it was.
"Well, well, well. Look who finally showed up to the party. I see you brought your boyfriend with you, Knox. How scandalous." For once, it was the elder of the two spiders who blushed from the teasing, which drew laughter from the tech spider. While Syntax only smiled, Huntsman dusted himself off, forcing his blush down with a soft huff and a soft flurry of German swears. It was all his partner could do to calm him down, but as the group united at the table Lian had reserved for them, she buckled up for the teasing she knew would ensue.
She danced the night away in his arms, in Syntax, no, Pierre's, arms. One hand on her waist, the other taking her by her other hand, all while the two larger Demons they'd come with simply held each other while the music played overhead. They were nice, nights like these, and as the younger spider spun his mantis around, he was finally sure.
Pierre had come to love her. Sure, it had taken several years to cement the relationship and fully convince him, but Lian had been patient. She'd been kind, she'd been gentle, she'd been generous, and he intended to continue repaying her in turn.
Until reality's lights burned out.

Saturn: Version Specific Headcanons
Because again, he’s like a million different people lol. Game:
-Manages Galactic to help manage Cyrus’ emotions. EX: If he’s agitated, suddenly the wing he’s in will be particularly quiet
-Almost exclusively self-taught in everything he does, since he was taken into Galactic instead of heading to college
-Has a policy of hiring any ex-grunt who applies for reformed Galactic, on the thinking that it’s the least he can do for allowing everything to happen.
-Managed to get himself, and as many grunts as possible, out of trouble with the international police by blaming everything that couldn’t be nailed down on Charon
-Was always a serious person, and taking on so much extra responsibility doesn’t help that.
Anime:
-The oldest, and also the hardest past, which leaves him acutely vulnerable to genuinely believing in Cyrus
-The most and least clued in about the workings around the operation
-The couch in his office is used exclusively by Toxicroak when they’re not on missions
-Detoxes a lot in prison, and comes out much more willing to work within the world they have
Special:
-Gets ratio’d practically every day, and he’s in a snit about it every time
-Type 1 Diabetic, and created the transportation pod because he’s prone to fatigue if his levels are off
-His entire job is about hurrying up and waiting, so he goes through a lot of games during the work year
-Benefits a lot from oral stimulation while he thinks. Honestly needs some chewlery to save what remains of his poor nails
-Developed all of the galactic tech outside of the red chain. That’s up to and including the brainwashing technology that controls the grunts
DPA:
-Was, if not a good person, at least a kinder person to his Pokemon before he got tied up with Cyrus
-Can and will throw hands over just about anything
-The youngest to join up, and the youngest at the time of his canon
-Kept pretty isolated due to the mental conditioning he’s under. Has 0 understanding of pop culture, but especially the internet
-He knows how to handle computers up to the requirements of his job (basically handling paperwork/emails) and that’s all
-After the events at Lake Valor, he has a mild case of thalassophobia
