day one with no phone, social media, or search engines. (this was typed in my Notes)
not too hard.
day two
kept reaching for it. none of my teachers minded my cassette player though.
day three
we had a tornado warning. i wanted to text my friends but couldn’t. I’m almost done with my cassette player bag. I facetimed my bf @quietintellectualginger. He’s cute as hell. Still reaching for it a bit. I wonder if/when withdrawals will kick in.
day four
annoying. i had to clean my cassette player. overall good though. i feel so much better than i used to already.
day five
I finished (ish) my shirt for my fairy wings. they arent exactly how I want them, but they work. They reflect a bit more of how i feel on the inside. It’s really just the weight, pressure on the back, etc. I started reading Insomnia by Stephen King.
day six
good day! had rehearsal from 9 to 2 for Something Rotten, i’m on costumes and actors dont know how to hang their stuff on the right rack and hand their shoes to us. its not that hard. (its hard, its hard, its really really hard!!! yes, its hard to be the bard)

šŸ”Œ Unplug & Recharge: Your Brain on Digital Detox 🧠
Feeling scattered? Overwhelmed by notifications? You're not alone. Digital overload is a real issue, but it's one you can tackle head-on. Let's explore some science-backed strategies to reclaim your focus, boost your mood, and live a more present life. šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø
1ļøāƒ£ The Dopamine Dilemma šŸŽ¢:
Every like, comment, and notification triggers a surge of dopamine, creating a loop that's hard to break. Think of it like a digital slot machine – rewarding you just enough to keep you hooked. šŸŽ°
This isn't about demonizing technology, but understanding how it affects us is the first step to taking control.
2ļøāƒ£ Creating Healthy Boundaries 🚧:
It's time to set some limits! Here are a few practical tips:
App Limits:Ā Use built-in features or third-party apps to track and restrict your screen time.
Tech-Free Zones: Designate areas in your home (like the bedroom) as tech-free zones. This allows your brain to relax and recharge. 😓
Scheduled Unplugs:Ā Commit to regular digital detoxes. Even a few hours a week can make a big difference. šŸžļø
3ļøāƒ£ Mindful Moments 🧠:
The key to a healthy relationship with technology is mindfulness. Before you reach for your phone, ask yourself: Why am I doing this? Is it serving me? Am I even enjoying it? ✨
4ļøāƒ£ Reconnect With Reality šŸŒ:
Make time for activities that nourish your soul and connect you with the world around you. Spend time with loved ones, explore nature, or pursue hobbies that bring you joy.
Digital detox isn't about deprivation; it's about creating a healthier, more balanced relationship with technology. By setting boundaries, practicing mindfulness, and reconnecting with the real world, you can reclaim your focus, boost your mood, and live a more fulfilling life.
ā¤ļøWhat's one small step you can take TODAY to reduce your digital overload? Share your ideas in the comments! šŸ‘‡

Navigating Digital Detox: Tips for Reducing Screen Time
Does your phone know you better than your best friend?
If you’ve caught yourself scrolling endlessly through cat memes at midnight, or worse, realizing you’ve double-tapped your ex’s vacation photo from 2015 (yikes!), then you might need a digital detox. By the end of this post, you’ll learn how to reclaim your time, reset your focus, and perhaps even rediscover what grass looks like IRL (spoiler: it’s still green).
Tumblr media
The Tale of the Reluctant Scroller
Meet Maya, a modern-day professional with a smartphone glued to her hand. Every morning, she promised herself: ā€œI’ll spend less time on my phone today.ā€
By 10 a.m., she’d already fallen down a TikTok rabbit hole. By noon, she was googling, ā€œHow to break up with your phone without hurting its feelings.ā€ Maya isn’t alone.
Studies show that the average adult spends about 7 hours a day staring at screens. That’s nearly half your day – or as we like to call it, an unintentional full-time job.
Tumblr media
But don’t worry; Maya turned things around. How? With a solid digital detox plan that didn’t involve running off to a cabin in the woods. And you can, too.
Step 1: Identify Your Triggers
Are you scrolling because you’re bored, anxious, or just trying to avoid work emails? Understanding your triggers is like finding the kryptonite to your screen addiction. Pro tip: Keep a journal to track when and why you’re glued to your devices. It’s like detective work, except the culprit is you.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Set Tech-Free Zones
Create sacred spaces where screens are off-limits. The dinner table, your bedroom, or, for the daring, your bathroom. Yes, this means no more doom-scrolling on the toilet.
Bonus: your posture will thank you.
Tumblr media
Step 3: Embrace the Art of JOMO
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is so last season. Enter JOMO (Joy of Missing Out). While others are glued to their screens arguing about pineapple on pizza, you could be savouring the silence of a good book, or better yet, learning to bake a pineapple-free pizza.
Tumblr media
Step 4: Use Apps to Fight Apps
Ironically, technology can help you detox from technology. Apps like ā€œForestā€ grow a virtual tree every time you stay off your phone, turning your productivity into a digital garden. It’s gamification meets guilt trip, and it works.
Tumblr media
Step 5: Schedule Screen Time
Remember how mom used to ration out TV hours? Be your own mom. Set specific times for social media, Netflix, and email-checking. Stick to them like your sanity depends on it – because it kind of does.
Tumblr media
The Payoff: Life Beyond the Screen
After following these steps, Maya found herself with extra hours each day. She joined a pottery class, started jogging, and even rediscovered the joys of people-watching without needing to swipe right. The best part? She stopped measuring her self-worth in likes and retweets.
Tumblr media
Time to Take the Leap
Your phone won’t hate you for a little distance – it’s a machine, after all. But you might just find that a little detox brings clarity, creativity, and a much-needed break from the noise of the digital world.
Tumblr media
Over to you! What’s your biggest screen-time temptation, and how do you plan to conquer it? Drop your thoughts in the comments – bonus points for humour! Let’s swap stories and tips on navigating this digital jungle together.

Understanding Digital Detox
Tumblr media
A digital detox refers to a period when an individual refrains from using digital devices such as smartphones, computers, and tablets. The purpose of a digital detox is to reduce stress, improve mental health, and allow time to focus on real-life interactions. It can be as short as a few hours or extend over several days, depending on individual needs and goals.

This excessive screen time not only hampers productivity but also affects our sleep patterns. The blue light emitted by screens interferes with our circadian rhythm, making it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep, which can have long-term health consequences.

I decided yesterday that this upcoming week--especially this week--I will guard my mental morning space. I don't have to be at the whim of the unending swirling news cycle or newsfeeds that are begging for my attention. When I do interact with those, it will be on MY terms. ⁣ So for each day this week, I will be tech-free in the morning, in order to intentionally set the tone for my thought, and I'm inviting you to join me. šŸ™Œ ⁣ Here's how it works for me, but feel free to adapt this to fit you: ⁣ 1. No social media scrolling / emails / texts until I have had intentional time to myself first ⁣ 2. I use my mornings to set MY tone for the day, and I get to choose how I do this: ⁣ - Drink 12 oz. of water first thing - Movement / working out / going for a walk / stretching - Reading inspiring texts from a *physical book* (no tech) - Writing in my journal - Breathing or doing breath work - Working on a creative project while my mind is free of outside chatter ⁣ The intent is that I start each day feeling grounded in the knowledge that I am in charge of my mental space, and no matter what this week brings, I know I can always go back to that feeling of quiet, calm settledness. ⁣ The news will still be there, but I don't need to be tied in, 24/7. I choose how and when I interact with global events. ⁣ While I may have many feelings this week, I get to remember that I am not my feelings. ⁣ "Where focus goes, energy flows." I determine where my focus is, and thus what I put my energy into. ⁣ Comment below,šŸ‘‡ "I'm in!" if you want to make a clear morning mental space your priority this week. šŸ™‹ ⁣ #quietmornings #techfree #setyourintention #election2020 #intentional #intentionallife #inspire #inspiringquotes #instaquote #inspiring #lifequotes #positivequotes #thoughtoftheday #motivation #quote #qotd #writer #writinginspiration #focusonyourself #energyclearing #socialmediabreak #techfreetime #quietthechaos #quietmoments https://www.instagram.com/p/CHGLMrnDiGl/?igshid=1xi2yx8x8hacv

A lot of the discussions of the "future of education" seem to be: The top 1% will get a techfree, "organic" humanist education from an actual teacher. 99% get video lectures on a distract-o-box, and their assignments get marked by ML algorithms. Compelling future right there.
