I think we forget to highlight how strong this scene is for Adrien.

I don't know if this will be entirely the case, but...If the reasoning behind Plagg taking the Miraculous away is because this way he can be free to have a relationship with Marinette, here's Adrien trading his freedom (and not only his freedom. His best friend, his confidante, his company in his golden cage… he's giving all that away) with having a relationship with the girl he likes. Poor boy!

And I know that probably Tikki and Plagg have put it in a different way, probably they have lied to them, but it still HURTS to see him having to make this choice! No 14 year old should...

The fact that Adrien and Félix are sentimonsters in my mind has helped me placing the Shanghai Special. I mean, I'm surely wrong, but I suspect that the Shanghai special is set right before the episode "Félix" in season 3.

Think about it.

Gabriel was wearing his wedding band. If the special had been set AFTER Félix, then when Gabriel disappeared with the ring, then ADRIEN, aka Chat Noir, would have vanished in thin air. But this doesn't happen, and you know why? Because his ring was safe at home on mama Agreste's finger. The one who died the second Papillon vanished in thin air was...poor unsuspecting Félix somewhere in London.

I can imagine the scene (and if some artist wants, hey can take the bunny and make a comic out of it!):

*Hawkmoth disappears*

*Somewhere in London, Amélie and Félix are having dinner.*

*Poor Amélie witnesses her beloved child being wrapped in a purple bubble and disappear in thin air.*

Amelie widens her eyes in shock. "That's it. What the f*ck has Gabriel done now? What happened to my son?"

*an hour later or so, Félix reappears in a storm of ladybugs.*

"That's it," says Amélie. "We're off to Paris next week. It's the anniversary of Emilie's disappearance so Gabriel can't complain that we go to visit. But this story must end. Evidently, Gabriel can't be trusted with something as precious as the ring that contains your amok.

*Félix is shocked beyond belief, not only for having just died and having been brought back to life, but also to find out in such a way that he's not even human*

Which leads to the situation in the Félix episode that we have seen. No wonder the poor kid was "behaving strangely"...

Dream of the Endless x fem!reader

Word Count: 276

Summary: Roderick is warned against an unexpected, outside threat to his ability to keep his prisoner.

NOTE: I’ve never read the comics, and don’t really intend to. This was written before the bonus episode. Also, I wanted to have reader be a god or such of some flavor so . . . We’re bringing in the Greeks.

Initially, Dream had hope that escape would be a simple matter. After all, Roderick wasn’t what he might label as a ‘real’ mage. He wouldn’t rank him on the same level as a children’s magician, let alone someone like the Constantine he’d met so long ago. 

Roderick must have gotten lucky. Somehow a real spell fell into his hands, but Dream doubted very much that it included what would be needed to keep whatever Endless the summoner managed to capture. 

There was no way he could have predicted just how wrong he’d end up being

After explaining precisely how to keep hold of the King of Dreams, the Corinthian felt compelled to warn, “You should probably keep an eye out for a woman that might come after him.”

Roderick scoffed. “And what have I to fear of a woman?”

A cruel smirk toyed with the Corinthian’s mouth. “Well, considering who exactly she is, you probably want to take my word on it.”

“Who is she, then?”

“Why . . . She’s Morpheus’s wife, of course. Best kept secret outside the Dreaming.”

“If she’s such a secret, why are you telling me? Or, for that matter, how do you know of her?”

The Corinthian just smiled. “Trust me. Don’t bet any woman near him unless you know exactly who she is.”

“Not even a basic description?”

“Don’t know what she looks like these days, to be honest.”

“A name, then. That’s the least you can provide for this unknown threat.”

That smile grew somehow more wicked. “Bold demand for someone that owes his prisoner to me, but alright. She’s got many names, Mr. Burgess, but the oldest is probably Nemesis.”

The Best of Mergana Fanfiction According to a Veteran

Foreword:

So, for context, this all comes from an email I sent a friend in which I talked about the nature of fanfiction for 14 pages (sad as that is). I felt that two fandoms in particular were extremely well-rounded and hyper-representative of the fanfiction community. Those two fandoms were Harry Potter and Merlin.

Since 2012, I have "favorited" (which does not take into account the various ones I did not favorite nor the various  re-reads of the ones I love) 276 fics. This leads to a grand total of 29, 704, 142 words read (approximately 74, 590 pages worth of stories).

And because of all that I think I've managed to categorize Fanfiction into 5 basic types / purposes. If you want to know about those, I'll make another post. But I marked which categories these fanfictions in the list are. You can ignore that.

Moreover, almost all of my fics are long. And by long I mean upwards of 150,000 words on average. The lower extreme is 80,000 words, and the upper is 750,000 words. for reference: Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is  87,223 words long. Meanwhile, War and Peace is 561, 304 words long. What I mean is, some of these are very long. But make no mistake, they're all terribly compelling.

And as you probably know, most of Merlin fanfiction is somewhat...steamy. Sorry, not much I can do about that. But the stories are amazing.

Without further adue, here are my top 8 of all time. (I can extend the list since I have 87 more I love but these are the best of the best)

1. Title: Throw Out the Script

  Categories: 2, 4, 5

  Description: Destiny says they go one way. They say they go another. Merlin/Morgana, 2x03 Divergence AU.

  Ship: Merlin/Morgana

  Word Count: 157,000 words

   Note: This was my first ever exposure to Merlin fanfiction. Amazing. I read this because I couldn't handle the events of Season 2 Episode 12. Perfect segway into Merlin fanfiction.

2. Title: The Coins Saga (Two Sides of the Same Coin)

  Categories: 1, 2, 4, 5

  Description:  Arthur is certain someone is standing in the shadows, assisting them with magic. Will Merlin be discovered? Bromance! Reveal! Spoilers for episodes up to 5x04 "Another's Sorrow.

  Ship: Merlin/Morgana

  Word Count: 3,000 words (in this particular fic. Other parts of the series are much longer.)

   Note: I can not tell you how amazing this series is. It adopts some major elements from the old folk tales, poems, and Arthurian myths and imports them into the TV Show. It's one of my favorite literary series' of all time.

3. Title: The Sorcerer's Bride

  Categories: 2, 5

  Description:  AU in which Merlin is a prince, Morgana isn't evil, and they're forced to marry to secure a peace treaty between their kingdoms. They try to make the best of their situation, and maybe they'll even find love in the process.

  Ship: Merlin/Morgana

  Word Count: 190,000 words

   Note: Total AU.

4. Title: Bound by Fate

  Categories: 2, 3, 5

  Description:  Sequel to Morgana's Servant. AU. Set after season 4, but before season 5. Explicit. Redemption fic. Some Arwen. Camelot rejoices as it's most dangerous foe is captured and put in chains, but Merlin is finding himself drawn to her once again. Magic calls to magic and they are each other's destiny. Complete.

  Ship: Merlin/Morgana

  Word Count: 318,000 words

   Note: Okay, I've tried to avoid this, but the fact is that this is a fantastic story. One of the best. However, it is rated R. Hard R. And the fic that comes before it, Morgana's Servant, is basically just erotica. But it turns into an amazing plot in this fic. If you're uncomfortable with that, then you can skip this one. Again, I must stress, this is an R rated story. R. R. R. So, very very very inappropriate.

5. Title: The Destiny Trilogy (Forks in the Path to Destiny)

  Categories: 2, 5

  Description:  A magical group called the Order of the Bear has appeared. It seems they strive for what Merlin is working for: Peace between magic and nonmagic people. Now Merlin's loyalties are being divided as Arthur himself has choices to make on the users of magic. Will it all lead to war especially when there are those that desire it? Post S4. Warning: Camelot bashing

  Ship: Merlin/Morgana

  Word Count: 156,000 words

   Note: This Trilogy is amazing (and less R rated than Bound by Fate), but be warned, this first book will piss you off. It pissed me off. They just bashed and bashed and bashed Camelot. But it gets better. Legendarily better.

6. Title: The Warlock's Quickening

  Categories: 4, 5

  Description:  Merlin might have come to Camelot to master his magic, not to end the Purge, but he's not going to sit idly by while his kin suffer. Oh no. Whether it's releasing a chained dragon, smuggling sorcerers out of the city, or trying to change Arthur's mind, he's fighting back. Now. Series rewrite beginning after 1X02 featuring Proactive!Merlin. AU.

  Ship: Merlin/Morgana

  Word Count: 139,000 words

   Note: First book in a series. The second book is a work in progress, but the author updates consistently. Beyond perfect. The definition of a Fix-It! story. I love it. It's hilarious and enthralling. How the show would've gone if logic was used.

7. Title: A Challenging Hostage

  Categories: 2, 5

  Description: Young Merlin's magic is observed in Ealdor by Queen Annis, and he's offered adoption and the throne. Merlin learns what it means to be a prince and an enemy of Camelot - til the day he's captured by Prince Arthur's border patrol. Uther holds a prisoner with magic that he can't afford to execute, and Arthur meets a rational sorcerer for the first time. No slash.

  Ship: Merlin/Freya

  Word Count: 127,000 words (and counting)

   Note: It's fantastic, thus far. But also a work in progress.

8. Title: Change of Heart

  Categories: 2, 5

  Description:  Starting with Morgana's cure in "The Crystal Cave," what happens when she "sees" who cures her and confronts him? What happened to her that changed her from kind to killer? And does she want to change her heart again when she realizes people aren't what she thought they were? Continues through the rest of S3 and goes a bit AU. Mergana and Arwen included

  Word Count: 64,000 words

   Note: Part of a trilogy. Good!

Just brilliant. Best series.

This was the first episode I’d been excited for in weeks. With the serum bowl I was dreading the last three episodes but the Marley Arc is my fave and I’m super super excited for what comes next in the anime.

The music was incredible and Grisha's VA stole the show.

The best of this season yet!

This season has now given us 2 (two) episodes WITHOUT openings and both times the episodes blew me away. I’m so stoked for the fourth season

I'd say it was a pretty solid episode. I can't believe we've finally made it to Marley, I am so not ready for the nonstop angst that is to come…

There were several informative and memorable scenes. 45.7% of participants thought Kruger’s big reveal was the highlight, while 12.1% can’t decide what stuck out the most. 9.9% of participants felt Dina becoming the Smiling Titan made the biggest impression.

DO YOU THINK GRISHA’S FATHER WAS RIGHT IN EASILY DEMEANING HIMSELF AND GRISHA TO GROSS? 270 Responses

Though Grisha’s father yielded to the Marleyan police regarding Faye’s death, 77.4% of participants believed he was right to prevent the rest of his family meeting a similar fate. 15.6% thought he should have shown a bit of resistance towards Gross’s accusations. Many in the comments agree the situation is simply not that black and white.

It's not whether it's 'right' or 'wrong' in these situations - if your options are the death of your family or satisfying your own feelings of dignity, then I think it's up to the individual what their priority is. But I think it is not a sign of weakness to put your family first.

He probably hated himself for doing it (at least I'd do), but losing another loved one would be horrible for anyone in his situation, so I can understand why he did that.

I can't really answer with clear 'yes' or 'no'. On one side, He was right to protect the rest of his family, on the other... He could try to comfort Grisha in a better way (you know, not yelling at him to be silent)

That is true, but it doesn't actually justify or support his position. We're SUPPOSED to all have the luxury and privilege of 'taking life for granted', as he puts it - that's why humanity has worked so fucking long to improve society to this point! We shouldn't have to think in life-or-death terms to consider ourselves worthy of living.

There is truth, but it's obvious that it's more words for him justifying his horrible actions more than a maxime which guides his life. If it were so, he wouldn't have been scared and screaming when the titan eat him.

DO YOU THINK HUMANS IN GENERAL BECOME INTERESTED IN VIOLENCE? 284 Responses

The episode observes humans and their reaction to violence, Gross saying he finds it interesting. 49.6% of participants believe that most people are interested in violence, while 40.1% specify that it depends on how violent the event is.

The most interesting part of the episode is Gross addressing the viewer over making his victim dance. Part of SnK is watching some victim being devored by the lions. Be it Faye to the dogs, Mike to the titans, Eren's squad to the titans in Trost, Carla to Dina, Marco to Araki Titan, Bert to Armin... the reactions however differ. Some of us came to see characters fighting and get eaten by giant monsters, but as the story progressed, our point of view differed and it became disgust for the most part.

HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT GROSS'S DEATH? 281 Responses

Gross’s death was a gruesome one, but 53.4% participants were satisfied he got what they feel he deserved. 17.1% were less comfortable by the irony of the situation, and 13.2% found his struggle enjoyable.

Watching reaction videos where people cheer on Gross getting his face chopped on kinda unsettled me, I'm not gonna lie.

IS FAYE’S DEATH THE CRUELEST MOMENT IN THE SERIES? 282 Responses

Being torn apart by dogs is a disturbing way to go and 46.8% of participants felt it was the cruelest moment of the series thus far. 45.4%, however, believed there were crueler moments worthy of mention.

I didn't think Faye's death was the cruelest because let's face it, Mike's was the absolute worst. :(

GIVEN HOW HE TREATED ZEKE, DO YOU THINK GRISHA IMPROVED AS A FATHER WHEN IT CAME TO EREN? 280 Responses

Though Grisha didn’t show a lot of compassion for Zeke as a son, 55.4% of participants believed he learned to be a better father for Eren as a result. 24.3% would rather have more information before saying for sure, and 20.4% of participants felt Grisha didn’t quite change his ways.

There was a mix of histories regarding Ymir Fritz. 50% of participants believed Ymir may have brought prosperity but that Grisha was also jumping to conclusions without context. 40.4% of participants thought Grisha was just seeing what he wanted to see.

Grisha’s va knocked it out of the park this week. The episode made me re-think whether grisha actually could read any of the sacred texts. Was he just BSing the whole way through? Will we ever know what they say in that case?

BEST ROGUE TITAN DESIGN? 282 Responses

Out of the three Rogue titan designs, a majority 62.8% of participants thought Eren’s was the most physically appealing.

HOW FAITHFUL WAS THE ADAPTATION TO THE ORIGINAL MANGA? 276 Responses

A majority of manga readers believed the episode was mostly faithful to the original chapters, with 54.3% believing it was nearly perfect. Others felt the episode could have been more accurate.

Great, pacing was a little quick but I think the anime adaptation explained everything a bit better than the anime. I had to go back and read those chapters like 3 times to fully understand everything lol. I do wish they didn't cut lines from the warrior selection announcement though. Overall great though!

Great adaptation. They should've cut the ending too, so they wouldn't need to cut some parts, but it was as close to perfection either way.

I'm sad that they omitted so much when Marley announces the Marley warrior program. Besides that I think it was an amazing episode.

Was thoroughly impressed with how they managed to adapt two of the most dense chapters into a single ep without any significant cuts. The artwork for the Eldia/Marley lore was gorgeous, and the performances were as expected, phenomenal. Kruger's transformation was breathtaking, as was the OST. Definitely one of the best episodes of the season. Also, Marina Inoue saying "Shingeki no Kyojin" in the preview gave me chills.

KRUGER'S HAIR: BLOND OR BLACK? 282 Responses

Kruger’s hair was colored dirty blond in the anime compared to the darker shade in the manga. 47.5% of participants felt that either color choice worked well for him, while 39.4% preferred his black hair.

I’m just over the moon to finally see The Owl aka Kruger animated with a voice.

The color scheme in this series has always been weird. Not that Isayama himself is limited palette-wise, but the colors have been much sober than WIT's multicolor fest. Kruger's hair are meant to be black or dark brown. Isayama draws blonde/hazelnut hair with full lines. Same goes with the uniform: Isayama uses frames for dark colors (the SC's green coat ie), ink for black and dark blue. Anime already made odd choices with Mikasa's scarf (black in the manga) or Armin's eyes (brown).

Always thought Kruger was brunette

After last week's preview I thought Kruger with blond hair was weird but having watched this week's episode I think it fits better with the blue uniform and the show's colour palette. Besides, he still looks hot so all is fine lol

Some of the more graphic scenes were censored in the anime, but 53% of participants aren’t bothered by it. 35.7% of participants were disappointed that some parts weren’t shown as a result and 11.3% felt it was appropriate to censor the more graphic scenes.

I don't mind Grisha's penis as well as the gory parts being censored (it's NHK after all), but the censorship comes across as convenient for the series. They omitted some marleyans officers saying Gross was going too far, or masked the details of the warrior program: no full confirmation of RBA being trained into infancy to be promoted at the status of Honorary Marleyans. Conbine that with the RBZ+Pieck scenes from this season being watered down and you have the anime making it even more black and white than the manga.

In the manga, Armin comments on Eren’s change of pronouns when he first wakes up, but the anime changed this line to “Who am I?” 38.6% of participants thought this change made more sense in context. 30.7% of participants didn’t realize there was a change, and 21.4% thought the manga made enough sense for it not to warrant a change.

I feel like this episode is where we lost Eren as he once was. The change wasn't immediate, but this is the impetus. All that information, all those memories. The boy has started to become a man.

Just a nitpick but I wish Kruger’s attack titan was animated more in destroying the boat since it felt more like a colored panel; I’m still happy how it turned it though! Maybe there might be additional animation next episode but I can only hope :’D

This episode was beautifully done. The voice acting really knocked it out of the park, especially Grisha's. His screams, holy shit. I got chills. Kruger's voice was also brilliant, just that perfect blend of nonchalant and forbidding. What I found interesting was the VA for young Grisha sounded so much like Kaji Yuuki! I saw in the credits that it wasn't actually him, but what an excellent casting choice!

This S3P2 has to have the weirdest pacing I've ever seen: the 2ch1ep formula doesn't work at all for backstories like Grisha's, considering the whole worldbuilding is unleashed. That being said, the preview from last episode's accustomed the anime-onlys to the outside world, but combining chapter 86 and 87 leaves no time to breathe properly.

Perfect, especially the final scene. I knew what was coming, but seeing the restorationists become the Trost Titans, the Dina reveal, and Owl transformation was something else. That sequence is on par with Reiner/Bertholdt reveal and Erwin’s charge as best scenes in the series. At least for the anime so far.

I thought this episode was kind of disappointing. Maybe it's just because I really dislike the tone shift that came with the Marley stuff, but I thought the manga handled all this exposition kind of awkwardly and was hoping for better from the anime. Nope, the only thing improving it is that it won't be drawn out for months between chapters this time.

Considering Darui's two habits of apologizing and saying the word dull, his apologizing is more sincere(since in ep. 394, 268-269 he only says "dull" out of convenience) but i hadn't noticed until ep. 313 when he was almost stepped on by the her I statue and kitsuchi saved him- he apologized twice and it sounded a lot like he felt like a burden to kitsuchi

You’re talking about the scene in ep. 276 when Tobi was going after the tools of the sage, right?

Because damn, poor guy can’t catch a break in that one, feels like he spends most of his time on-screen apologising.

I’ve already done a couple of posts about the dull-thing and the apology-thing but honestly, the more I think about it, the more I get the feeling that that’s not all there is to that.

You’ll notice that Darui apologises a lot for things that aren’t actually his fault. Rather, he apologises for what he perceives to have been a failure of his (except for when he’s apologising for A’s rashness), like failing to immediately stop Ginkaku, or failing to prevent the events that lead to A losing his arm, or failing to stop Madara from obtaining the Kohaku no Jōhei. And then there’s the episode with Kitsuchi where he’s almost crushed by the Gedō Mazō and then he apologises for bothering him.

That… doesn’t seem healthy.

Anyway, I’m by no means a psychologist but have you ever heard of Abandoned child syndrome? This is where things devolve into mere speculation again, but I’ve had the hc that Darui’s parents were killed on a mission he even started training under the Third for a while. Then he trained under him for about a year (at least as far as my understanding of the Naruto timeline goes) and all f a sudden the Third, the one person people believed to be damn near invincible, too, is killed in the Third Shinobi World War. Losing that many attachment figures at such a young age is bound to have lasting effects even with proper therapy but we all know that mental health care in the world of Naruto is practically non-existent.

I strongly suspect that, lacking a familial support system, a young Darui frequently felt like he was a burden inflicted upon whoever happened to be put in charge of him and used to try to make himself useful as much as he could out of the (mistaken) belief that he first had to earn his place at whatever home he happened to end up in (an orphanage? a foster family? the Fourth’s care?). And failing to meet the (unreasonable) expectations he set for himself often left him feeling as if he had failed his caretaker.

To get back to ep. 276, Darui apologises and ends with “It was my fault.” As in, he genuinely blames himself for failing to stop a bijū-powered monster statue and the crazy OP-villain hardly anybody ever even manages to lay a hand on, when there were thousands of other shinobi who failed to do the exact same thing. Darui gives himself very, very little credit here, despite the fact that aside from Shikamaru (who is a genius with an IQ of 200) he was one of the only shinobi to realise that Tobi would go after the Kohaku no Jōhei and come to that realisation fast enough to act upon it. In other words, I think Darui, like many other characters in Naruto, has the tendency to attempt to shoulder the weight of the entire world by himself and when he inevitably fails to do so (because once upon a time, Naruto used to be a show about the value of teamwork) he gets stuck in the mindset of “I failed everyone, I’m sorry, I’m not deserving of the trust you put in me”.

Which is what makes the way A reacts in the flashback in 269 when Darui apologises to A for failing as his bodyguard, so remarkable. The core message of “don’t worry about it, you’re doing great” is something Darui probably needs to be reminded of on a regular basis.

Damn, I really, really want to know what Darui’s childhood was like.
