2,300-Year-Old Plush Bird from the Altai Mountains of Siberia, c.400-300 BCE: this figure was crafted with a felt body and reindeer-fur stuffing, all of which remains intact
Tumblr media
This plush bird was sealed within the frozen barrows of Pazyryk, Siberia, for more than two millennia, where a unique microclimate enabled it to be preserved. The permafrost ice lense formation that runs below the barrows provided an insulating layer, preventing the soil from heating during the summer and allowing it to quickly freeze during the winter; these conditions produced a separate microclimate within the stone walls of the barrows themselves, thereby aiding in the preservation of the artifacts inside.
This is just one of the many well-preserved artifacts that have been found at Pazyryk. These artifacts are attributed to the Scythian/Altaic cultures.
Currently housed at the Hermitage Museum.

They had a fun corner in the natural history museum in Bern about the taxidermy process, and they showed the effect the eyes have on how realistic or uh. disturbing. a mount is
Tumblr media
The first fox had all black eyes. Not super realistic for those who know red foxes usually have orange or greenish eyes, but still pretty cute
Tumblr media
The second one had normal fox eyes. I think they could've gone with a size or two smaller, but still. Regular orange eyes with a vertical pupil as it should be. But then. Oh. Oh no.

The Natural History Museum, London
Explore Earth's past in the galleries of the Natural History Museum, which features one-of-a-kind artefacts from the museum's collection of more than 80 million items dating back 4.5 billion years.
The Natural History Museum, is located in South Kensington, London, and is a part of the neighborhood's "Museum Quarter," together with the nearby Science Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum.
Some of the top attractions at the Natural History Museum, London are the enormous blue whale skeleton in Hintze Hall, the fossils in the gallery's internationally renowned Dinosaurs section, and do not miss the meteorites from space.
Also not to miss are the museum's most recent exhibits, such as the yearly Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, which showcases amazing images of the natural world.
Moreover, before going to the museum do keep an eye out for fun activities and events happening at the museums, such as yoga classes, silent discos, dinosaur-themed sleepovers, behind-the-scenes tours, and family-friendly activities during school breaks.
You could easily spend the entire day here since there are more than 20 galleries and areas to visit. You can visit the stores, unwind in the serene Darwin Center, or refuel at one of the cafes, snack bars, or the picnic areas at the museum.
If you don't have much time, you could choose one of the four zones of the museum based on your interests.
Though the visits to the Natural History Museum are free. A pre-purchased ticket and an admission fee may be required for some limited promotional exhibitions and events.
We advice booking a timed admission ticket, because the museum may not always be able to enable walk-in entry during busy tourist times.

The 5th edition of my annual birthday + life updates post! ☕️🖤
Despite receiving two dreamy French university offers, I will be continuing to study psychology, this being my fourth year out of six!
I will be studying modules in intermediate statistics, biopsychology, cognitive psychology and the philosophy of knowledge. I’ve been yearning to do these modules since the start of my degree hehe
I will also be taking classes in the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, even though the materials list burnt a huge hole in my wallet rip </3
I’m so excited to be 23, and I hope this next academic year will be kind to us all~

On this day in 1936, the last known thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus) died at the Hobart Zoo in Tasmania. The animal’s passing marked the extinction of its species. Also known as the “Tasmanian wolf,” the thylacine was Australia’s largest marsupial predator. It sported a dog-like form, with distinctive stripes, and a jaw that could open up to 80 degrees—one of the largest gapes of any mammal.
The thylacine fed primarily on small mammals and birds. Nocturnal and shy, it was seldom seen by humans. However, beginning in the 19th century, settlers believed the animals threatened their livestock and, spurred on by a bounty offered by the government, hunted them relentlessly. Attempts at protecting the species in the wild came too late: Despite numerous unconfirmed reports of sightings in recent decades, no definitive sightings have occurred since the 1930s.
