Film: THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER (d. Hendel Butoy, Mike Gabriel, 1990, USA)
Forum: Doc Films   Format: 35mm
Observations: I dared the cold and snow last night for a 9:30pm screening of THE RESCUERS DOWN UNDER (d. Hendel Butoy-Mike Gabriel, 1990, USA), a Disney Renaissance feature that I'd never seen. (That Doc would go to the trouble of acquiring a 35mm print of a Disney film, just to show it on late weeknight when kids are in bed, is simply perverse; maybe 25-30 hearty souls attended.) Once you get past the incessant, chattering dialog and obvious story beats, the fine details of the mouse and insect world are very nicely done, and George C. Scott as the villainous Outback poacher is a nice casting coup.

Obviously, if you want to count any of the other "duo" protagonists in the films (ie, Tramp, Perdita, Maid Marian, O'Malley, etc), be my guest. I just simply listed the ones whom I consider to the main animal leads of their respective movies.
Also, I threw in Winnie-the-Pooh because, yes, he's technically a toy, but the narrative always calls him a "bear of very little brain." Also, I think he's a good "wild card" lmao
Happy voting! ❤

Animated 11: The Lion King II: Simba's Pride v The Rescuers Down Under
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Simba's Pride {original-The Lion King (1994)}
Actually excellent quality for an animated sequel - amazing songs, amazing cast and characters, amazing story. Who didn't have a crush on Kovu, huh??
Kovu
Because Lion King is basically Hamlat with lions and the sequel kept the Shakespeare theme and is basically Romeo amd Juliet with lions.
The Rescuers Down Under {original-The Rescuers (1977)}
