I'm Wren, I'm 35 and from the UK. I am also autistic and my rainbow credentials are that I'm a trans guy, grey-ace, and somehow also pretty gay 😉

My characters tend to be neurodivergent, with many of them being ADHD or autistic, even if the fantasy world doesn't have a term for it. I develop all my stories with my partner, who is ADHD. I also like to write about trauma and healing through found family and connections with others.

I currently have two ongoing projects.

Project 1:

Two decades after the slaughter of Ardveld’s royal family, Matthew could almost forget he’d ever been the crown prince. His survival a secret from all but his closest friend, the expectations of his birth have been consigned to history.

Across the city, a string of strange magic attacks prompts an investigation by Ardveld’s newly appointed Head of Magical Affairs, Tamara. What she discovers threatens to reveal the truth about Ardveld’s takeover, and will determine the future of the survivors.

The Mechanics of Magic is a multiple-pov fantasy novel set in an original world where magic exists openly alongside early internet-level technology.

The book follows the surviving prince of a deposed magical royal family (who has been living in secret for two decades) trying to rescue his son from the government whilst uncovering the truth about his family's murder.

Mechanics was my first book. It can stand alone, but I am now working on the sequel as there is much more to explore with these characters and their journey.

I am currently working through the edited manuscript that I've received back from my editor, and will be posting each chapter here as I go under the tag themechanicsofmagic

They are bound together, but Oren's magic is only growing stronger. He resists control, even as he slips further into hunger, and Julian’s father is close to figuring out the truth. Time is running out, and Oren’s existence threatens to tip the delicate balance of power at court into a battle that will devour them both.

kai wilder , more known as an agent of chaos some would say . . . that some being me . . . i'm the one . it's very hard for kai to feel settled , always needing some sort of rush or adrenaline . that mostly leading into him getting himself into some sort of trouble along the way . he'll never admit to anything actually going on with him and claim he's just trying to have a little fun . even though , there's no doubt that he does everything he does because of the chaos that swarms inside his head . always seeming unserious , kai can flip around in his moods easily . one second he's joking around and the next he's bored and flips the script . he's very unpredictable in a lot of ways . . . then again , if you really know him , you probably feel his unpredictable chaotic behavior is to be expected . underneath it all , there's just a very lost human being but . . . that's a secret . or , he thinks so . he could be very high energy , mainly because he needs things to keep moving or he'll lose his mind . then again , i'm pretty sure that his mind is already lost . there's a lot to uncover but . . . is it worth it ? maybe not . . . he's not a bad person . . . but not exactly a good person either . his morals a little lost .

kyle wilder or as he likes to be called , kai wilder was born in good ole lincoln city , oregon . growing up in his small family of four . then again , it wasn't much of a family to begin with .

kai's mother , kathy wilder felt as though she wasn't living the life she was meant to . playing pretend and trying to fit in with every other country club wine mom . not understanding why she couldn't live her dreams of sitting pool side gossiping with the ladies about her life while her husband played golf with the boys . alas , things didn't come that easily for the woman . her idea of country club living was sitting at the public pool with a box of wine and overpriced sunglasses . trying her darnedest to ignore the screams of children around her .

daddy dearest on the other hand was too distracted with his own issues to ever really involve himself . ( TW : DRUGS / ADDICTION. ) carter wilder wasn't one for the family lifestyle . which was exactly why he didn't really entertain the idea . it didn't matter that his on and off girlfriend became pregnant twice with his offspring . he wasn't interested in kids or marriage . the only thing that really interested him was getting his next hit . whatever hard drug he could get his hands on , that's where he drifted off to . it didn't matter where it took him , it didn't matter if he was off the radar for days , months or years . . . that's where he'd be . ( TW CONCLUDED ! )

that left kai's brother , christopher wilder . only older slightly older , the two got along relatively well for how dysfunctional the two became to be later on . but as kids . . . they were thick as thieves . they had to be , they were all each other had . in a lot of ways , chris was the one that raised the both of them . but as life goes , things change and kai and chris' relationship fell apart . the two brother not really having anything to do with each other other than chris trying to pick up pieces of a broken family .

as for kai , he'd never really felt as though he belonged anywhere . never feeling as if anything felt quite right . nowhere ever felt like home to the male causing him to run off or jump from place to place , even at a young age . never really wanting or being able to call one place home . even when chris would come running after him . telling him to come back , kai seemed to have a lot more of the not so great qualities of both their parents . although , if there was one person that could talk kai off the ledge , it was probably chris . . . sometimes .

the only thing that the male really clicked with was extreme sports . skateboarding , bmx , anything that got him flinging through the air or onto the ground . there was something about the adrenaline and the constant movement that kept him entertained and excited . although , his aspiring career hasn't jet off just yet in current years , it doesn't stop him from continuing to try and be the next tony hawk or big bmx guy .

that being said , he needs a way to pay for the random places he finds himself . working any jobs he could get his hands on . nevertheless , most of the poor people that decide to hire him , regret it . never really taking anything too seriously has it's downfalls .

that being said , we're getting off topic . moving back to the day chris went missing . kai ran off , one of the many times . only this time it stuck . thinking he'd never find himself back in oregon . disconnecting from his family after they started their charities . putting up an act of this perfect little family that lost their beloved son . his father even marrying his mother for the looks of a decent father figure . kai didn't want anything to do with it . that and , he knew a lot more than he was letting on .

it wasn't until that dreadful message that kai found himself coming back . as much as kai want's to act like he doesn't care about any of it . . . he does . . . it is his brother after all . maybe he isn't the best person in the world , definitely not . . . but he is human . . .

there's some things missing , i'm sure ! but for now , this is what i got . going with the flow as i figure him out more ! please , have this trash as my token of gratitude . and i'm sorry you had to endure this struggle and ramble .

After watching Secret Society of Second Born Royals (again) and hearing that line about how it's been a thing for over a thousand years that second born royal siblings have superpowers, I wanted to make a listing of some disney/pixar characters who, by that logic, would have powers, and my theories as to what those powers would be!

Princess Amber (Sofia the First)

My sister and I feel like Royal Prep from Sofia is a lot of the inspiration for the Strathmore school for royals from SSOSB, so it makes sense that some characters from the Sofiaverse get to be part of the society. With Amber's character development throughout Sofia, by the time she got her powers, she would've been a force for good with them and gotten to keep them. Her story is a lot about handling her jealousy and learning that the world doesn't revolve around her, and I think her powers might have something to do with that.

Isabel (Elana of Avalor)

Isabel would definitely get to keep her powers, and they'd probably have to do with a super-charged memory or powers of incredible retention of information.

Alana (The Little Mermaid)

(Alana is the second to last one in this gif.) She's somewhat obsessed with beauty, though not in a vain way. I think shapeshifting or some kind of charmspeak would make sense with her.

Anna (Frozen)

Based on what we know from Frozen, either Anna was a very late bloomer, or she ended up stripped of her powers. It might be because of what she saw Elsa go through with her powers that she decided to renounce them entirely— or, because Elsa found out about her supernatural abilities and didn't want Anna to feel like a monster like she did, so she made sure her sister's powers were revoked to protect her from public opinion.

Prince Ralphie (Princess and The Frog)

Ralphie would have a unique balance of roles to handle, as both a second-born royal and, since his older brother was disinherited, eventual king, but I think he'd do well!

one of the triplets (Brave)

I can't find any information on which of the triplets is the oldest. Based on the fact that January had powers and her twin brother did not, we can assume only the oldest of these boys would be a super, which might cause some rifts or tension when he has to keep it a secret from his brothers.

I may make another post like this later about any Second Born Royals from OUaT, but for now, what are y'all's thoughts?

Hatshepsut was the second historically confirmed woman Pharaoh. She was the longest reigning female pharaoh in Egypt, ruling for 20 years as a man would in the 15th century B.C. She is considered one of Egypt’s most successful pharaohs.

Hatshepsut bore one daughter, Neferure, but no son. When her husband died about 1479 BCE, the throne passed to his son Thutmose III, born to Isis, a lesser harem queen. As Thutmose III was an infant, Hatshepsut acted as regent for the young king. For the first few years of her stepson’s reign, Hatshepsut was an entirely conventional regent. But, by the end of his seventh regnal year, she had been crowned king and adopted a full royal titulary

Hitherto Hatshepsut had been depicted as a typical queen, with a female body and appropriately feminine garments. However, she had herself portrayed in pictures as a man, with a male body and false beard. She even claimed the god Amun Ra (God of the Sun) as her father and insisted that he meant for her to take charge of Egypt: “I acted under his command; it was he who led me.” For Hatshepsut to assert priority over Thutmose III was a radical move in conservative Egyptian society. it’s actually NOT like the princess at all really. the princess was an action movie more so than girlfantasy. THIS is unfiltered pure girlfantasy updated for the 2020s… it’s like guinevere choices. or queen charlotte. or the secret society of second born royals. or it’s kind of like if the school for good and evil wasn’t bad. in many ways it’s like if the secret of moonacre was made in the 2020s and also was grimier. but i think being grimier is an included facet of being more 2020s rather than 2000s. girlfantasy of course wasn’t invented until like the 90s we know this. which is a real shame because the princess bride has always had so much girlfantasy potential but alas was made by men who don’t care about women. there IS actually a way to remake the princess bride to be girlfantasy but no one will ever do it right unless we get like. greta gerwig to team up with someone crazy like guillermo del toro. that would be awesome. alas that’s literally never happening so we can only hope no one tries lest i turn into a terrorist about it. i digress. anyway

#i said the 90s even though i’ve never seen a movie i’d classify as girlfantasy made before like 2003 #because i believe there was probably an indie root to the movement #i’m literally not an expert i just talk #of course books are another story. i think alanna was published was before the 90s and that’s definitely girlfantasy #girlfantasy in books was probably invented in the 70s #of course the girlfantasy golden age is the 2000s we know this #i think it’s having a small renaissance though. nothing big it’s all very understated but she’s staging a comeback
