How come nobody is talking about how Bravern is suspiciously similar to that Spar Kaiser character?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The colors, the head, the chest piece…
He’s got his pose and everything!!
AND we know as a fact that Bravern has at least some knowledge about him
He literally 3D printed a replica of him!!
Tumblr media
But why? How did Bravern learn about this guy? Did someone base his appearance off of Spar Kaiser? Why would they do that?
AAAAHHH TO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

Hello, I don't usually ask questions on social networks, but I wanted to know what you think of a story where our human friend suffers an accident aboard the lost light in the Brainstrom laboratory and now the bots are able to see his thoughts. Bonus points if it's weird stuff (most of our minds are very weird), (sorry if something is poorly translated, I'm writing this with the translator) ^^)
One, I absolutely adore this concept.
Two, did you know there are people that think in pictures rather than use an internal voice?
And to top it off, people go around referencing pop culture, iconic scenes, memes, and their favorite media as well as the weird, intrusive thoughts and extreme, nonsensical daydreams...
I like to think there would be a media war between the Cybertronians that never went to Earth and only know beloved cartoons and shows and memes from the weird reenactment from the resident human's mind but with the Lost Light crew getting morphed into it versus the Cybertronians that actually had direct experience and personally downloaded those shows and movies.
As the "I Ship It" song goes, canon ground versus crack ship space.
Does anyone else remember those Naruto animation videos where the Akatsuki are drawn drunk or doing hilarious dances? The human looked up the Decepticon Justice Division, cross referenced on what they do, and immediately thought of a full sequence of the D.J.D. doing the Gang Torture Dance from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
The human thinks of sequences, including but not limited to:
Ultra Magnus as Steve Harvey from Family Feud with Rodimus with the "Nekkid Grandma!" bit
Rodimus doing "Goofy Goober Rock" because Roddy would love to be suspended in the air and dressed in wizard swag with a killer rip on a peanut-themed guitar. Drift has the legs to fulfill Patrick's fishnet-and-heels dance.
Megatron and Ratchet in The Office because he would stare deep into the camera at whatever new trouble has plagued the ship
Getaway and Rodimus doing the "Tony and Ezekiel" bit
So many fire-related memes: Elmo and the "This is fine." Dog.
The overlap of Rodimus in Gurren Lagen and Bang Brave Bang Bravern
The continuously weirder and weirder thoughts on how Cybertronian strip club would look like based on Futurama, Cyberpunk, and Night runner's Magnum Bullets. "Snu-snu" bit included. It's both highly ridiculous, strangely erotic, and absolutely terrifying at the same time to the Lost Light crew.
Whenever a mech does something stupid, the human immediately reimagines the mech in Wheel of Fortune fails, or a shoving potatoes in the exhaust
Nightbeat in a noir setting or as Sherlock Holmes
Rung is "Mister Cellophane" from Chicago
Assigned character theme songs
The last bullet causes so much drama because mechs want to have really cool or badass themes, but no! The human assigns them sex or porn songs like "Life is a Highway" and "Shut Up and Drive" and "Two Trucks," or something silly like "Barbie Girl" or the opening theme to Mega XLR or the sad song on the world's smallest violin to the poor bastard that gets stuck with the engex bill at the end of the night.

Brave Bang Bravern
Tumblr media
Friends.
I've finished watching Bravern and I have some thoughts and questions.
First of all, I love parody. In fact, I love commentary and analysis of stories in many forms, but parody is fun. Mecha anime is very far outside my wheelhouse so I'm coming into this show purely as someone who enjoys unhinged stories.
Also, I love gay shit.
If it's gay + 🍌🍌🍌 now we are where I like to be. I was told Bravern is both.
And it is.
I should preface any of my analysis of queer content with the fact that I am not well educated in queer or gender studies and am in fact just some person on the internet with uninformed opinions. I often struggle to understand and explain how I think and feel about media. So please feel free to share other analysis with me, I love to learn.
Okay.
There may be spoilers ahead.
Bravern is gay. The show, the robot, Smith and Isami. It's gay. I watched it on Crunchyroll and to my bafflement, some people in the comments disagree. An argument can be made that the homosexuality in the show is overt at times, but even if you take the stance that it's subtext or metaphor, it's still prevalent.
Tumblr media
Some of that has to do with the fact that Bravern is a parody of Mecha anime. Pilots riding inside a combat robot becomes a metaphor for sex. And in Bravern that comparison is pushed about as far as it can go without becoming tiresome. I'm on the fence about whether this joke about the homoeroticism of it is made with fun wink to the gay community or whether it is at their expense. I'd love some other opinions on this.
Also going to take a moment to insert that I'm also not Japanese so I don't have a perspective that is informed about how culture may play into this topic.
Overall Bravern is really fun. It pokes fun at ideas like the power of friendship and the roll of bravery in anime.
The robot is called Bravern and is an amalgamation of a robot of lust and the spirit of a fallen solider, Smith. Smith has an interesting relationship with Isami. Smith is inspired by Isami's bravery and envious that he is able to "ride" Bravern. They are also friends who have complicated feelings towards one another. Smith's lifelong dream was to become a hero and he tries repeatedly to merge with one of the sentient robots so he can be like Isami and Bravern, but fails. Eventually he dies, bravely I might add, and is able to fuse with a dead robot to become Bravern and travel back in time. Back in the past as Bravern he was able to have Isami ride in him and feels a sense of deep fulfillment. The plot is convoluted which is probably also parody, but plot is also not the point.
Bravery comes up constantly in this show. It's the name of the robot. It's Smith's motivation. It's Isami's character arc. It's a mystical power that can empower Bravern/Isami (by the end I'm not sure what the difference is between the two) to evolve into his most powerful form and defeat his opponent. The roll of Bravery in this show is deliberately over-the-top.
Tumblr media
Another theme that is poked fun of it the power of friendship. The bromance between Smith and Isami is made homoerotic, and the friendships of everyone else are used as way to empower Isami/Bravern, sometimes psychologicaly, other times quite literally as a magical power source.
There are plenty of laugh out loud moments and a lot of action, which make it fun to watch even if you just want to enjoy it casually without trying to analyze it. The deadpan looks of the people who witness Braven and Isami's absurdity are hilarious. Also, some of the one liners are just 💋🤌
Tumblr media
I'm sure I'm missing some key themes because I haven't even mentioned Lulu or Superbia. But that's my two cents for this show. I would love to hear someone else's take on it.

You watch Bang Brave Bang Bravern and you ask yourself, how much of this was intentional and how much casual.
The girl in the box is an actual child. We see her grown up in the future, and her face and body changed, she is a child and she get adopted and watch cartoon and does not have a romantic relationship with one of the leads. But her body is still sexy, and in the beach episode she have a bikini and low waist jeans, and her tits giggle, and it is normal for tits to giggle, but was this fanservice for the classic mecha public, was it a critic to how these character are represented. She is a baby, but we see a shot of her ass, and we are not sure if the very cis very male director didn't do this scene as a consolation price to the men forced to draw oiled abs and men grinding on each others.
The CIA waterboard the protagonist, and it is a traumatic experience not even being saved and thanked can cancel out. There are two other waterboarding scenes after, one against a child and one against a giant robot. They both play comedically, because they both fail. It is just to show how the genre of the story changed, from real robot to super robot, or does it means more? Is it a critic to the system of torturing people to get information, because it will never function, and maybe waterboarding a giant robot will not get you anything, or is it just for laugh?
And you ask yourself, why are you asking these questions on a gay mecha anime, and well, i would not ask these questions if it was not a gay mecha anime.
It is a show decided to change genre three times and mix real robot and super robots in a gay romance that save the worls, and it is meant to be a love story to the old super robot genre, and to aks the question of why these type of stories exists. Maybe i should ask myself these questions.
They reference evangelion, but they are not able to give a woman character space, and you have no idea if it is for parody or for being unable to do it. There is an autistic fujoshi, and she is only an autistic fujoshi. There is the woman love the protagonist, and she save his life, but she is not important to the plot to she stay on the sideline. They tell you the military is not that bad, and you close your eyes to it because it is set in a not so far future and maybe things have changed, and than they give you two men singing a love song to each others shirtless.
And then the story tell you that the desire to die honorably, the very japanese feeling of getting out in a spectacle, is not good. It is actually what the evil guys want, to die honorably. You deserve to live, and you deserve to want to live. You can say no and hope in a future with the men you love. And if you want to live any diegetic explication for the super robot effects will disappear, and people will be able to transfer you the energy to resuscitate the commands and transform in the final gold form, and your hairs get longer and you can now defeat the final main guy, a giant angel created from the deaths of your other enemies. And since now everything does not need anymore to make sense, your partner is send to you again, for a third time, and you want to kill him for what he put you thought but you take his hand and the sky is blue and everyone is happy and the world is saved.
Where does the comedy end. Where do the serious thoughts start. How does the fanservice, and which kind of fanservice, control the plot. And it is a gay mecha show.

Do you know anime bang brave bang bravern? Just record I am not really know but it's mixed transformers headmaster, megazord and Gundam
from a posting there's some questionable context between human and isami and robot ao braven, I meant 👇
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I meant, the robot sound very passionate about his relationship with the human, and my god the way he say it and other human reactions are hilarious😂😂😂, I feel embarrass just look at he sy I definitely no want listening what he said. Also the way the human entering the robot if I am not wrong is through the robot mouth and somehow the human must naked too because the clothes will melting inside the robot.
Now can you imagine isami and ao braven robot meet transformers, Autobots and headmaster. While I think Autobots will feel touchy and awe with ao brave robot speech about isami but the headmasters? What they will react? Well it's depend who is listening, Sam probably will greatful bee not really said stuff like that, Lennox very greatful because Ironhide is tough , Noah probably just hoping mirage will not copying speech like that
Wait I will making the crack one shot, just wait
Sam and Noah fearing and cringing at cool ass anime moment speech while Lennox acts all proud about it. Sams the type to be nudging or giving bee some kind of cheesy i know you know but i feel a lot to hoping nobody else catches it. Noah is fighting mirage off ,like an overly affectionate and dumb cat

Finally got around to watching Ep 12 of Bravern :]
[Spoiler Unfriendly Musings below the Cut]
My thoughts, in chronological order:
so Superbia is actually weak as hell, wow
Lulu failed, again, okay
Okay Isami's fucking LOST it.
[Title Card]
Okay, white flag time
Whoops, didn't work
I haven't said this yet but the new Deathdrive (Ira of Wrath?) is awful :(
I do find it darkly humourous that Isami has basically gone back to how he was before, albeit a lot more (understandably) wimpy.
Would love to know the deal with the green background place — it looks vaguely galaxy-like — and the implication from Cunus + Smith's death is that it represents either some kind of afterlife or a space between time. So ... how'd Isami get there? Or is this just him hallucinating now?
Ha! He said it! "I did make my 'brave' go 'bang'!"
Okay so Isami definitely isn't dead. Why is he able to speak to Lewis then — does this have to do with Isami crawling back inside the wreckage?
Gay love conquers all fr
Ooh! Isami finally realises the truth of what the Lewis-is-Bravern truthers have been saying all along! :D
Ooh! Golden Bravern variant!
I think it's cute that Isami's hair stayed messed up from the powering up sequence. (Also his pilot suit changed lol)
Really wish we understood why the Deathdrives are such deathseekers.
Ah, the 9th Deathdrive. Verum Vita.
(Wait so what happened to the one that was sucking the Earth dry? Or was that one implied to have died from Bravern changing the Earth)
(Ah yes, that one's dead too :} Vita's flashback confirms it)
I'll literally laugh if it just revives all of them.
Oh
Oh
It's genocidal.
But also that's really messed up. So I guess they are called 'Deathdrives' and Vita is the 'Deathdriver'.
So Bravern + Isami just speedrun Vita lmao
I genuinely don't know what the human military plans to do but I hope it works out
Oh! Superbia's back in business! And he's golden.
But this Lulu being this size seems to affirm some part of what I thought: our Lulu's growth was stunted but thanks to mutual fusing (or whatever you want to call it), she's now at an 'adult' size.
They are all so hopeful that to me this can only go awfully terribly wrong.
Combination²!
Anyone else find Vita's model very jarring? Not even in an uncanny sense but more of a "this character model looks a bit rougher"? Is that just me? Maybe it's because this chara model is almost entirely white and different variations thereof.
I have to wonder if it's intentional that Vita looks so ... phallic.
This animation is so ... yesssssssss
Bravern gritting his teeth!!!
Oops
Vita's dead. (?)
Okay, Bravern's dead.
Same with Superbia.
Expected but yeowuch.
But I assume Lewis is still alive. Gotta be able to remake the opening theme.
Smith's alive :]
They all seriously need some clothes, God bless
I like how this ended but this did not feel like s clean end to me, at the same time.
Still, enjoyed the 12-episode run!
Ironically enough, I don't think we answered a few questions. I will have to come back to this but off the top of my head:
1. What is Lulu? Why do all the Lulus look the same? Were those all failed attempts at going back in time, or were they each their own person? ‘Lulu’ seems to be the Deathdrive’s name for the species.

Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better
Thank you so much to @saltedpin for the tag!!! 💙💙💙
3 Ships You Like:
Number 1 is of course FireSky!!! ❤️💜🥰🥰🥰 My most beloved, the only ship that ever got me to write fic 🥺 They are beautiful and perfect and quirky and strong and so sweet and tender and fond of each other... They're a soft, fluffy blanket I want to stay wrapped in forever 🥹
For number 2 I'll go with a flavor of the moment, Astarion/Tav, which is... weird, of course, because Tav is literally a different character for each person who plays the game, but it doesn't really matter, because the real ship I'm rooting for here is Astarion/Happiness. (Truly, it's Every Companion/Happiness, but Astarion stands out, along with Karlach) 🥺 Loving curses to Larian and Neil Newbon for finally getting me to care about a vampire beau after I spent my whole life dodging them left and right (and I was in the Buffy fandom at 17, so that was some Matrix-style level of dodging, I assure you.)
Third and very honorable mention goes to Victuuri, because it has brought me SO much joy, and I probably should think about it more often 💙
First Ship Ever: probably something from one of the gazillion anime series that aired in Italy when I was a wee child. I think I may have answered this question once before, but there are honestly too many possibilities 🤔
Last Song You Heard: Lovin' You by Minnie Riperton
Favorite Childhood Book: Asimov's robot stories, accompanied by a fair number of classics such as Heidi and Pollyanna... and pretty much every sci-fi or genre book my local library could offer for my age range, and for beyond my age range once I ran out of shelves in the kids' section 😅 I just loved reading A LOT, so most books were my favorite as long as I was reading them.
Currently Reading: Nothing really, which is very sad.
Currently Watching: Brave Bang Bravern, which is EVEN SADDER I HATE THEM SO MUCH FFFFFUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK 😡😭😭😭
(Erm. Sorry.)
Currently Consuming: a theoretically healthy and fully nutritional oatmeal bar because I was really hungry but couldn't be bothered with actual food
Currently Craving: some real and lasting peace of mind
Tagging: mmmh, I do not feel like directly tagging anyone rn, so: if you've read this far, I would most certainly love to see you play along with this, so please consider yourself tagged! 💙💙💙
