the mysterious blue stuff is, i'm fairly certain, from one of the girls in blue's costumes. it *does* vanish in some shots, which makes me wonder if the bullet catch went wrong at least once here are some shots of it not on the floor (there's also a stray feather in the first shot, but on the other side of the stage, i think)

it looks like it's missing in the shot above, but theshot below is the same take and as crowley's shadow moves, it's visible again as below

Good Omens is Weird - camera angles, discontinuity and perspective

I'm picking up my series on discontinuities again, because I have a lot more to add. Part of what makes Good Omens so mysterious is how the team are making purposeful "errors" all over the place. Everything is a bit "weird" as Nina would put it.

While a lot of discontinuity in Good Omens has already been documented, there's still so much to uncover. So, let's look at some of the curious editing and continuity decisions that have been made.

As has been pointed out before, some camera cuts in season 2 are just plain odd. But there isn't just one weird camera cut in S2, there are a lot and often the weirdness happens as we switch between camera angles.

Episode One

What do I mean by weird cuts? Well, take Crowley's first scene, on the park bench with Shax.

The way it's been edited, we see Crowley put down his newspaper more than once - once in the mirror that Shax holds, and once in the normal shot (credit to @ineffable-detective-agency):

But there's more! In this same scene, the way its been stitched together, Shax's bag is all over the place (credit to @leftduck9986 for spotting this one). Take a look at where Shax's bag is from one shot to the next. The screenshot below are in the order they're shown:

Timestamps ~11:57 and 11:58:

~12:11 and 12:15:

So, from the camera closest Shax, her bag is down, from the other angle, it's up.

It's The Minisodes Too...

It's not just the current day that's wonky. In 1941, as Crowley is dropping off the whiskey to Mrs H, from one camera angle you'll notice a black top hat (complete with a toy white rabbit) on the stage table. Here it is by her left shoulder:

From the other angle, and the distance shot, the hat is gone:

Likewise, in the magic show itself, we have a mysteriously appearing and disappearing blue object. In front-on shots it's on the floor next to the table, but from other angles it's not (credit to @maufungi for finding this one):

Now, if you're thinking "well, all of these are easy mistakes to make", consider that these last two examples require leaving props around that aren't required for the scene. Also consider that this is a show which makes many other purposeful "mistakes".

Mistakes like Gabriel's statue missing its cross, the shop signs losing their names, and sideburns and wigs that don't know what length to be, and of course, the suddenly appearing Honolulu Roast board. They are plentiful. And that's just scraping the surface.

But then - what are we to make of these differences? I'm open to a lot of different theories, but overall I'm inclined to think we are being shown a woven together story. Is it woven from different perspectives of the same events? Woven from repeating events like some sort of extended Groundhog Day? And if so, WHY? What does this mean for our story?

The next time you're watching Good Omens, take a look at a scene which was filmed from multiple angles (nearly all of them are) and compare between each angle. Do you spot anything different?

Go back for the shot 📸 I was taking some pictures with my tripod when a huge tour group walked over and stopped right in front of me. I attempted to keep going, but the stares were so bad 😅 So I stopped and walked away. I quickly went through my pictures and decided that they were just “fine”. I wanted to go back and take more, but felt way to weird at that point and I wasn’t sure when they would move on. But then I thought F it…I might only be here once. I better get some damn pictures I really like! So I went back and I am so glad I did.
