Send “You looked like you needed one” to give my muse a hug.
Apollo stared down at the paperwork on his desk, as if he could drill a hole right through them. It had been his first week back at work, he came back as soon as he could because he wanted the distraction, but there wasn't much to distract him so far. He was still in mourning.
Tears welled up in his eyes when he felt the other hug him. He did need one, despite the demeanor he'd been trying to give off all day. He swallowed down a pitiful 'Clay...' once again, because he didn't want to draw attention. Not to himself, not to his situation, and certainly not to the way he was feeling. He really did not want to be taken off work for even longer.
"I'm sorry..." He ended up whining out, rather pitifully. Maybe a part of him was expecting to be reprimanded or scolded for his behavior, but with so many physical reminders in the form of still-healing cuts and bruises, it was hard to go back to life as normal, especially when he was still expecting calls or texts from his best friend, nights when he'd come over for a few drinks and some anime. It hurt even worse whenever he'd remember that those times were long gone... "I'm so sorry..."
A peculiar instance of one Pierre Bezukhov (War and Peace) transported into a fantastical realm
In this imagined world, the realm functions on a unique currency system where living, shape-shifting creatures are the key. These creatures, called Changelings, can take on various forms and properties depending on their breeding and training. They are highly sought after and valued in society, as they can be bred, traded, and used to create all sorts of exotic wealth.
Now let’s meet Pierre…
We have been subjected to Blackouts for months (actually years) now usually staggered in 2 1/2 cuts and according to a schedule for each town, thus allowing for a stressful re-organisation of each day.
BUT sometimes … things go horribly wrong, whether intentionally or accidentally. Like yesterday, when they switched off at the expected time but failed to switch on again. One sits and waits and…
Last week I lost a member of my family, my mom’s cousin Jim. He grew up with my mom and uncles. While I was privileged to grow up spending time with him at family reunions and extended family vacations, there was a bit of an age gap. We were not close.
I am still sad and it has been hard. If anything I am very close to his mom, my great-aunt, and his sister. So I’ve been doing what I can this week to help them process their own loss.
In doing so I have been able to revisit my own early grief journey with a new perspective. I’m nearly two years removed from the loss of my own brother tragically and it has not been an easy two years. For better or for worse I have been forever changed. I appreciate the metaphor about gluing together a broken vase in this moment. While the vase may retain its shape, it will forever be broken. That’s grief. Eventually you can repair the shape of your life, but it will forever be altered.
I am surprised in hindsight that my grief no longer weighs me down. It’s there, and surfaces in random moments and memories, but it is no longer a daily struggle.
And I am happy to be a guide for someone else in their journey. As I told my cousin Trish, I hate that we are in the club together, but here we are and here I am.
It makes me think that as cliché as the expression is, there is a reason for things that happen in our life that we may not understand. And while I sincerely doubt my brother passed to pave the way for me to counsel my cousin in her own grief, I know I can offer my experience and shine the way for her to move forward.
The collective shared experiences of others have gotten me through not just my loss, but many of life’s trials and tribulations. Even if details vary, enough can be shared to provide a glimmer of hope to the ones that come after you on the journey.
Take a moment to reflect on your experiences. Where are you able to offer a flashlight to someone struggling in the dark of life’s troubles? The journey we all take matters, and in the words of Ram Dass, “We’re all just walking each other home.”
You can't learn to fully rely on God if your life is going as planned. God doesn't allow trials to hurt you, He allows them to give you the opportunity to grow closer to Him. #difficulttime Sometimes your clearest view of God will be in the fire and trials of life. #trial You will be tested by major changes, by delayed promises, by unanswered prayers, by undeserved criticism, and even by senseless tragedies. But know all things work together for good. #godsplan This is how God works. He puts people in positions where they are desperate for His power, and then He shows His provision in ways that display His greatness. #hardtime Your lowest points can catapult you to your biggest spiritual growth. When you hit rock bottom, that's when you should meet "THE ROCK". Hold on to Jesus. #hardtimes When it feels like God has deserted you in your lowest moment, most likely he’s actually doing the most powerful work you could ever imagine in the deep parts of your soul. #trials 🔥Subscribe to my YouTube channel and podcast,👉🏾"Uplift Past Crossroads"👈🏾🔥 Befriend me on Facebook/LinkedIn = Sean Christopher Jenkins 🔥Follow👉🏾@troubledontlast 👈🏾IG/Twitter/Snap/TikTok for more🔥 Turn on Post Notification - Like - Comment - Share - Save ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ . . Father God, In the midst of our trials and tribulations, we are not consumed because Your unfailing compassion sustains us.
Father, we thank you for protecting us from being overwhelmed by the challenges we face. May we continually rest in the promise of Your enduring love, which never fails. In Jesus' name, we pray,
➕➕➕ AMEN ➕➕➕
