Take the next exit

When you’re driving down the motorway, you are sure the exit you’re going to take is going to be the right one. It’s going to get you to your destination with ease.  

The only way you’re going to miss the turning is if you get distracted. 

If you start day dreaming about what you’re going to have for dinner or how mean your boss was to you the other day, the turning you wanted to take is going to zoom right past you.  You’ll have to take a longer route or turn around and try again. 

However, if you stay in the present moment and trust that the route you’re taking is exactly right, then you’ll take the exit smoothly, cleanly and without the need to turn around or look back.

You’re one thought away from taking the right exit.

কবরে তিন প্রশ্ন-পরকালের প্রথম ধাপ হলো কবর। কবরে বান্দাকে তিনটি বিশেষ প্রশ্ন করা হবে। বারা বিন আজেব (রা.) থেকে বর্ণিত, রাসুলুল্লাহ (সা.) বলেন, কবরে মানুষকে তিনটি প্রশ্ন করা হবে। এক. তোমার রব কে? দুই. তোমার দ্বিন কী? তিন. এই লোকটি কে ছিলেন, যাকে তোমাদের কাছে প্রেরণ করা হয়েছিল? কবরবাসী যদি মুমিন হয়, তাহলে এসব প্রশ্নের যথাযথ জবাব দিতে পারবে। আর যদি কাফির হয়, তাহলে বলবে, আফসোস! আমি কিছুই জানি না।’ (আবু দাউদ, হাদিস : ৪৪৫৩; তিরমিজি, হাদিস : ৩১২০)

How Wonderful

How wonderful to be understood, to just sit here while some kind person relieves you of the awful burden of having to explain yourself, of having to find other words to say what you meant, or what you think you thought you meant, and of the worse burden of finding no words, of being struck dumb . . . because some bright person has found just the right words for you—and you have only to sit here and be grateful for words so quiet so discerning they seem not words but literate light, in which your merely lucid blossoming grows lustrous. How wonderful that is!

And how altogether wonderful it is not to be understood, not at all, to, well, just sit here while someone not unkindly is saying those impossibly wrong things, or quite possibly they’re the right things if you are, which you’re not, that someone —a difference, finally, so indifferent it would be conceit not to let it pass, unkindness, really, to spoil someone’s fun. And so you don’t mind, you welcome the umbrage of those high murmurings over your head, having found, after all, you are grateful —and you understand this, how wonderful!— that you’ve been led to be quietly yourself, like a root growing wise in darkness under the light litter, the falling words.

A rolling stone gathers no moss

At the beginning of the year, I had an astrology reading with the amazing Francesca Oddie. I’d actually won the reading in her Christmas give away by some stroke of luck. During the reading, Fran read out my life’s quote “a rolling stone gathers no moss’.

The historical use of this metaphor was to imply that if you are continuously moving you never acquire roots and gain knowledge. My view is that if I am moving around, then I’m setting down roots in many places whilst gaining memories, life skills, friends, cultural understandings and knowledge. It is a life without attachment, without judgement and with little commitment, and I couldn’t be embodying that more if I tried.

For some of you that may seem horrifying. That’s ok! We are all living our own separate realities, and it would be boring if we were all the same.

You see, when I live life from a feeling of knowing, nothing on the sidelines can interrupt me. This isn’t something that I try and do, there is nothing to do. It’s something that has accumulated from the feeling I’ve got after having an insight. Insights create growth and change.

Take a moment and look back in your life, has there ever been a time when you’ve had an ‘aha’ moment. Sometimes others will have their own opinion on your ‘aha’ moment or insight, but it makes so much sense to you that you stick to it like glue.

If I’m receptive to the change that comes after an insight, then anything is possible. That’s the magic behind the energy that drives life. The only thing that will stop me is a low mood and my intellect. My intellect is finite, there is a limited capacity to learn whereas insights are infinite, there is no cap, and we never no when they will come. Moods come and go, that’s just the nature of being human, and I don’t need to identify with them.

And that my dear friends, is what I like to call, freedom!

উসূলে সালাসা হল ঈমান ও ইসলামের তিনটি মূলনীতি। ইসলাম সেসব বিষয়ের উপর প্রতিষ্ঠিত যা সর্বশক্তিমান আল্লাহ কর্তৃক নির্দেশিত এবং নবী মুহাম্মদ (সাঃ) এর সুন্নাহ দ্বারা প্রকাশ করা হয়েছে, যেমনটি নবীর সাহাবীগণ বুঝতে পেরেছেন এবং অনুশীলন করেছেন। মৃত্যুর পর মুসলিম-অমুসলিম নির্বিশেষে প্রত্যেক ব্যক্তিকে তিনটি প্রশ্ন করা হবে।

উসূলে সালাসা বা ইসলামের তিনটি মূলনীতি উসূলে সালাসা হলো ঈমান ও ইসলামের তিনটি মূলনীতি। ইসলাম প্রতিষ্ঠিত রয়েছে ওই সকল বিষয়ের উপর যার নির্দেশ মহান আল্লাহ্‌ দিয়েছেন এবং যা তাঁর প্রিয়নবী মুহাম্মাদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহে ওয়া সাল্লাম সুন্নাতের মাধ্যমে অভিব্যক্ত করেছেন, যেমনটি রাসুলের সাহাবাবগণ বুঝেছেন এবং কর্মে বাস্তব রূপ দিয়েছেন একটি বিখ্যাত হাদিসে নবী মুহাম্মাদ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহে ওয়া সাল্লাম তিনটি প্রশ্নের বিবরণ দিয়েছেন যে তিনটি প্রশ্ন মুসলিম ও অমুসলিম নির্বিশেষে প্রত্যেক ব্যক্তিকে জিজ্ঞাসা করা হবে। তিনটি প্রশ্ন মুনকার ও নাকির নামে দুজন ফেরেশ্তা রয়েছেন। তাঁদেরকে কবরে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদের দায়িত্ব দেয়া হয়েছে। মৃত্যুর পূর্বে পৃথিবীতে কবরবাসীর কীরূপ ঈমান ছিল, সেবিষয়ে তাঁরা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করবেন। তাকে তিনটি প্রশ্ন করা হবে। এই তিনটি প্রশ্ন ‘কবরের তিন প্রশ্ন’ নামে সুবিদিত। প্রশ্নগুলি হলো :  

তোমার রব কে ? তোমার দ্বীন কী ? তোমার নবি কে ?

যদি সে এই তিনটি প্রশ্নের সঠিক উত্তর দেয় তাহলে তো ভালো; কিন্তু সে যদি সেগুলোর উত্তর না দিতে পারে তাহলে তাঁরা তাকে কঠিন ও যন্ত্রণাদায়ক শাস্তি দেবেন।

প্রত্যেক মুসলিম নরনারীর তিনটি বিষয়ে জ্ঞানলাভ এবং সেমতে কাজ করা অবশ্যক।
