I'm tentatively planning on:

touch-starved (that was supposed to be day 2 of mcspirk month lmao BUT the denied food one ate my life and that didn't happen)

plato's stepchildren au for the 12th (an unpleasant fic all around)

vulnerability for my bingo card (it's the operation annihilate au where spock doesn't have two eyelids and mccoy basically breaks science by working himself into a wreck for three weeks until he cures spock)

the couple's counseling one for the 26th

we'll see how i do on those, haha!!!! as long as they're REASONABLE lengths (glares at myself in the mirror) i might make it, although there's a good chance the plato one will be late simply because. i have to get that car in ffxiv. i hafta. but it's still planned in that order)

“Don't mind if I do,” Kirk says brightly, and he immediately pulls off his boots and sets them down by the door. McCoy is staring at him as if he's taken leave of his senses, but Kirk just moves over towards McCoy's desk. “I'd like a drink,” he says. “You want a drink? You still have that bottle of Romulan ale?”

McCoy turns and looks at Spock in utter disbelief, and then looks back at Kirk.

Spock, after some internal debate, removes his boots as well.

“Jim, what's going on?” McCoy says, dropping his crossed arms in favor of a running a hand through his hair, leaving it somehow even messier.

“What, I can't drop by and see my best friend? You were gone for a month, Bones, I missed you. Didn't you miss me?”

“This feels more like an ambush than a social call,” McCoy says, and turns back in time to see Spock neatly lining his boots up next to Kirk's. It seems to leave him speechless for a moment, but Kirk doesn't let that slow him down.

22. how much of your own self/experiences do you believe pours into your projects? if this differs per project, which projects have the most and least of you?

so much! i have to project onto these men or i will go insane. my brain is a big cocktail of disorders so i love seasoning characters with trauma or other issues and just forcing them to go through it, if a fic is lighter ill try to keep it softer but if i really want to write a whump fic, no one is coming out of that without at least 8 years of therapy

kkgai secret marriage fic: essentially team 7 decides that kk is a lonely sad man and start trying to set him up with literally anyone they can think of, blissfully unaware of the fact that gai and kk have been married for 3-5 years. all of the other shinobi know and do not say anything because this is hilarious to watch play out. this is sadly one of the least done ones </3

heart of a dog: i already have a oneshot up on this for ao3 but its going to be kkgai early years to pre-team7 and then a dif fic for after team7 to the ending. i am exploring youth mental illness and kakashi being a dog. this was mainly an excuse to write a slightly feral wolf kakashi

obkk pwp 1: kakashi's chakra veins get frozen fighting kiri nin while on a mission with obito, obito funnels his fire into a chakra massage to help melt the ice in kakashi, kakashi is half naked for Reasons and obito is pretty much fondling him in a sensory way.

slip your wedding veil over my eyes (leave me mourning, leave me blind.) obkk unknown marriage fic: follows canon events up until ob gives kk the sharingan, uchiha clan traditions dictate that a sharingan is a marriage present (exchanged between 2 clan members or between the clan member and the one being invited). ob does this as a last ditch effort to ensure that kks can NEVER have the sharingan taken away from him. since rin does the procedure she is counted as a witness and its a binding agreement. there WILL be angst in this

for hoad i was googling the gender ratio for wolf litters at 3 in the morning. i don't know. what that necessarily MEANS for me... but it cannot be good.

this was to differentiate between hatake clan and inuzuka clan traits btw. for a throwaway line of topic that may not ever be used in fic, but it IS in my lore bible.

nearly all my online friends I've made stem from connections I made when I started being a more active fic writer in the past year aaaaaaa

literally like, i wouldn't have connected with floral if I hadn't asked about stuff when I was writing that LLK adjacent fic

and all the dannymay stuff i made got me confident enough to actually join a couple dp servers where i met some very lovely people (including u <33333)

Man, I remember doing that Dan and Ember fic for Scarlette and going over How to Human w/ you and starting that one GIW fic w/ you and typo

and joining invisobang and the invisobang server and meeting people through that

(and catboy vlad through which I met Lenn; it's not really a connection through being a fic writer, but I did write a cursed drabble for that so i count it skdjfhasdg)

and Ectoberhaunt event + server and now Phic Phight and the DP Fic server and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I've met so many cool people!!!!! <3333333333333

(this is all over the place and probably incoherent but essentially, i am very glad i ended up posting my first dp fic)

9. What inspired you to write your first fic?

for my very very first fic, for Fairy Tail on FF.net, I got inspired by bingeing a Lot of gajevy fics and then just like getting so many ideas i actually wrote some down and posted one (for the sake of my dignity, i wont actually link it sdakjfhasdg)

for my first Danny Phantom fic, it was thanks to DannyMay; as soon as the calendar came out, I apparently wrote out ignorance is your new best friend like, the day after in one shot and then promptly forgot about it.

Fast forward, May 12 rolls around and I'm thinking I have the vague feeling I have a wip for it somewhere and bam. A whole ass fic just sitting there. Good times.

Would you consider Piercifer a rarepair? Do you think there is still an audience for Piercifer fics? I'm getting back into Lucifer after two years and thinking about dusting off some of my WIPs. As the Piercifer expert I thought you might have some thoughts. <3

i will first start with the ending of your message and say thank youuuuu for falling for my branding and i hope that my answer will be satisfactory <3 i am also flattered that you decided to ask me... anything about them as i consider it recompense for the amount of time i spend think about them (24/7) <33333

now let's get to business: it's not that i consider piercifer a rarepair, the fact is that by all logical metrics it *is* a rarepair. and yes, this means that most people do not ship them, or at least not in an enough capacity to actually participate in this subset of the fandom, but that also means that the few people who do ship them love them very very much (hi! it's me! i'm the problem, it's me!).

now here comes the more complicated part, namely whether or not there is an audience for fics (or really any type of content) about them and i have some factors that i need to bring up (which are simply things i have watched happened over the past almost 6 years now) and which are a bit more spread out and refer to both their status as a rarepair and their audience (both some years back and now):

all of their interactions happened in season 3, which aired between autumn 2017 and spring 2018 aka yearsssss ago => no new canon content in years, which means that some people (even people who watched s3 years after it aired) would naturally lose interest because few people can sustain interest in a pair that just has nothing new to talk about and analyse and such

they did not... end things nicely (to put it lightly) in canon and that may also contribute to how people perceive them and their relationship (this one's more of a guess rather than an observation, but it might be worth mentioning)

the show is... finished and it has been finished for 2 years now! even pairings with generous followings saw a decrease in posts in these past two years as all the final season content got done + anything that was just sitting in people's drafts got finished and with no new content it was very easy for people to focus their energy on series that are still on-going. but posts are still made and fics are still written! (on more general things related to this fandom my one and only source is following source blogs here. i am extremely picky about my content for this fandom specifically so i only check the marcus and piercifer tags here and the piercifer tag on ao3. but i do think that source blogs are a decent way to gauge how fandoms are doing.)

they're not actually canon in any way, shape or form. everything is more implied than anything and the things that are outright said throughout the entire show actually discourage people from shipping anything other than the intended canon/endgame pairing and it has worked pretty wonderfully

the most relevant point here is no1, because there's just no new content and yes, i have noticed the number of all types of fan content dwindling. there are some bouts here and there and for the most part i try to stay consistent (even if it's through silly shit posts) but the audience, especially now, in 2023, isn't all that big.

BUT pls don't let that discourage you, anon! the fics that do get posted nowadays still get some hits and some kudos and even the occasional comment. the audience used to be bigger, sure, but that doesn't mean that your fics aren't still worth writing! and i will read them! so there, you got at least one person in your corner!

in conclusion, please don't let anything discourage you from writing and posting fic and also don't let initial low engagement discourage you. sometimes things just need to... marinate. i haven't been posting much fic lately (for piercifer specifically) but i still get the odd comment on my older fics, so really it can just be a bit of a waiting game given that it's fic for a rarepair that had no interactions in canon for over five years now.

also! if you ever want to talk about them both my askbox and dms are open! as you may have noticed, i am not always the best at answering quickly, but if that's alright with you then i will make sure to make it a social priority to answer preferably sooner rather than later! and, if you do end up dusting off your old wips and finishing them, then please do let me know, in whatever way you feel most comfortable, if they ever see the light of day as i would love to read them <3

IwaOi fanfic recs: my top 10

Okay so I have like so many wips that I keep looking at and then I like don’t? do? them? It’s fine :’))))) But instead of me finishing those, here’s my top 10 picks for IwaOi! This will probably become a series for the ships I like, but we’ll see LOL. Usually when I rec fics, it’s just any that I’ve read and enjoyed, but these are the ones I keep coming back to! Also I made this cause the IwaOi ship has SO many fics and if I had to do a WHOLE fic rec list, I would never finish (ie. the sakuatsu draft ahahaha).

1. The Loyalty of a Traitor by DeathBelle (E) 76.9k /cp/ ok so does me liking this fic make me basic cause I feel basic LOL. I really love mafia fics, and the way the story line developed was SO good, like IN LOVE with this story. This is a fic where you should read WARNINGS, TAGS, and SUMMARY before diving in, but if the length scares you, don’t be. It’s so easy to fall in and get lost in the writing!

2. Conquering the Great King by SuggestiveScribe (E) 105.6k /cp/ I LOVE THIS SERIES AHHHHHHHHH. Honestly I know the 105.6k word count is SCARY I UNDERSTAND BUT it is SO worth it. This is the first fic of the series and it's mainly IWAOI, but there are other ships too so if IWAOI isn't your thing, check for the other ships :) Also if you don't mind smut (cause it is explicit for a reason LOL) then please I beg of you to read the whole series!!!!!!! I love love love this one and it really got me invested in the whole fanfic thing LOL.

3. Shiver by Yuu_chi (T) 16.7k // THIS UGH. I’ve BEEN in LOVE with this fic for like five-ever omg. It’s SO good and the character portrayal and plot progression in this is AMAZING. Whenever I come across it, I always reread it cause it’s just so worth it! (Also that paragraph about Iwa trash talking himself made me laugh OMG.)

4. the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu (chanyeol) (T) 66.3k /cp/ again, basic? Probably LOL but it’s good so I have no shame ;) Again, pls don’t let the word count scare you (cause it scared me LOL), you get really into it after like 2 paragraphs, so just make sure you have enough time to finish hehe.

5. dyspnea/arrhythmia by carafin (T) 10.8k // I adore medical fics and I also love Iwa being good with kids,,,, (I think it’s very fitting okay? And the pokemon cameo was great) This was such a great fic and Iwa + Suga being friends is SO CUTE (crying into his orange juice, I want to be). I REALLY loved this fic, and the ending was *chef’s kiss*!!!! (STAN PAEDS IWA)

6. Build A Temple In Me by Authoress (T) 39.7k // God Oikawa and idgaf Iwa is such a good combination. UGH. I loved the plot of this fic and the conflict was done SO WELL. I also loved how Iwa kept coming back and HIS GRANDMA IS THE BEST <33333 But also their friendship was SO CUTE (THE SONG GUYS THE SONG) and poor Kyoutani :( (There’s also a spicy second fic you should read hehe!)

7. i'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you by baekuugo (insxouts) (M) 22.5k // UGH SINGLE DAD IWA? Yes please!!! I really love the plot in this one and sassy Kageyama + Hinata + Yachi is such a cute friendship! Also a proud stan of the IwaOi + SugaDai friendship agenda,,,, I love them. (Beware some spice is included aka smut LOL)

8. to be first, to be best by kittebasu (chanyeol) (T) 26.4k /cp/ okay I think I've read this fic like 3 times already (4 now cause I reread it for this list and I remember why I love this fic AGAIN LOL OOPS), but the plot never sticks with me LOL. Not cause it's a bad fic, but because I have a crap memory. Regardless, I know it's a good fic because like I said I managed to re-read on 2 3 separate occasions so yea. (it’s a really cute fic and I really enjoyed the ending, esp the extra! Also stupid, oblivious iwa is bae)

9. silver tongue by ohhotlamb (E) 10.3k // OKAY THIS WAS FUNNY. Like the betrayal and such made me laugh and it was embarrassing. All the emotions in one LMFAO. And like everyone in this fic and the secret operation? OMG. Anyway, there’s a second fic and ITS PRETTY MUCH GOLD AS WELL so like go read them both (RIP pizza party) :D (SMUT ALERT AHAHA)

10. love me like you do by crossbelladonna (T) 100.5k // this fic was SUCH a rollercoaster omg. First, the concept itself was great and the execution was flawless and Ushiwaka was ajfnlajsdnf. AND THE ENDING!!!! THE ending omg. And Lev being a car made me laugh LMFAO. And we love f ups AHHHHH. If this made no sense, you’re right,,, it didn’t,,, so you should go read it so it does HAHAHA.

In hindsight, this 10 limit made me cry because I had like 20 of them and I had to sift through them but even then the 20 was from a larger pile which was in a larger pile.... TLDR: I wanted to put more fics :’))))) But honestly, the ranking of these are pretty loose and like when I say that I mean you could literally just randomize the numbers and I would accept it LOL. The way I might just end up making a pt 2 of IwaOi cause as I was making this list, I kept rereading all the fics (which is why it took so long to come out hahahahahahha) and I fell back in love with IwaOi (like I was ever not lost in IwaOi hell)...... But yea these are my “top 10″ theoretically (misinterpret that as you will as I cry over the fics I couldn’t/didn’t include).

1. describe how you first started writing and when you first posted

i began to write in general since i was around 14 like any other emo kid kdjdjsks and o began to write fics when a friend asked me for one as a birthday present. it was written in a hurry and it’s not my favorite but i really enjoyed doing it. i posted that exact same fic on their birthday

2. which of your characters do you typically resonate most closely with? do you base any characters off of yourself?

it depends the fic i guess. and not really, i think the closest i’ve been to do that is in the rockstar au (coming to the @bottomlouisficfest very soon), i put one or two of my old insecurities in h so he could connect better and wouldn’t be persieved as just an asshole-y dude cause i don’t like that and louis don’t deserve that uwu🌸

3. where do you often find inspiration?

4. has quarantine helped or hindered your writing process?

before the quarantine i had around 3 wips, now i have 8

i just leave the fic for a bit, i don’t really like to push myself about this cause i’m just doing it for fun

the easiest is the dialogues, i could write pages and pages of just dialogues in hours and the hardest is the smut dhjdd

it depends, is the antagonist? i ask myself how’d i feel if i were them, like a third party just trying (and usually failing) to get in between

13. what is your favorite and least favorite word?

i like “wet” i just... yeah.... and least favorite i don’t really know tbh

14. what is one thing about your writing that you’re really proud of and one thing you hope to continue working at?

i like that people conect with the characters because i always put a lot of effort in making them realistic (as much as i can), i make them flawled and sometimes even messy but with good hearts and intentions, all of them are (even the antagonists). and my grammar OH MY GOD MY GRAMMAR

15. what work of yours has your favorite ‘verse/world building? how did you come up with it?

hands down the ice prince fic. and funny thing is, i already had my prompt for the fic fest but i just couldn’t stop thinking about one particular prompt about a bratty prince and an alpha who hated omegas and the amount of POSSIBILITIES that had. two days later or so, the mods of the fest gave us the opportunity to pick another prompt if we wanted and the rest is HISTORY

that that’s okay to fuck up, that no matter the circumstances you have to respect your partner and TALK WITH THEM and that a person can be successful, independent and a badass while being soft and a c*mslut

c: what member do you identify with most?

assuming this means of 1d -- definitely louis just in terms of personality, mindset, etc but i also identify with harry in a lot of ways too. if this is also referring to in fics then i tend to identify most with whomever i’m writing from (perspective) since... i’m the only writing them lol.

oh geez... there’s a few i could have chosen for this but i decided to pick the one i’ve been thinking about recently:

“Yeah,” says Harry. He runs a hand through his hair. “Anyways, that got me thinking about soulmates more. I still think soulmates aren’t inherently romantic but I do think there’s a reason that most of them do end up together romantically - it’s kind of a shitty revelation considering the proof is all around us but it feels important. I’ve just been so stubborn all these years, maybe a little bit pessimistic. I hated that it felt like the universe was taking a choice away from you because I always felt like love and loving someone was something you can’t control, while at the same time being a choice - as in you choose to pursue and be with someone. I thought soulmates took away that choice.”

Louis nods. He was the same.

“But turns out I’ve had it all wrong. Soulmates - these marks - they may tell us who our soulmates are but they aren’t a condemnation like I always thought. It’s a sign, that’s all it is. But you can ignore signs too. Or you can choose to follow them. It’s still a choice, soulmates are still a choice,” says Harry, slowly speaking more and more urgently. He leans in close and grabs Louis’ hand, pressing kisses to his fingers. “And I choose you.”

there’s a few reasons why but i just mostly feel like this whole scene/conversation really got to the crux of the story which was harry’s internalized resentment towards soulmates which influenced all of his actions/decisions in the fic. it also represents something that i truly believe in too: love is a choice. i could go into a ramble forever about my views on that topic but i’ll refrain. i just really like this whole sequence because i find it fleshed out and honest - it’s been like eight/nine months since i’ve posted this fic but i still find this version of harry to be one of my most complex (and personal favorites). 

i: do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

lol well - i can’t think of anything that actually fits the criteria of ‘guilty.’ i guess ones that i personally include a lot in fics without care of being repetitive would be: jealous harry, harry calling louis ‘baby,’ angst and hurt/comfort, supernatural elements, d/s undertones/elements... idk.

tbh i don’t think anything could ever beat dlimb or fbab but there are a few other angsty wips i have that have similar tones... most notably all the exes to lovers fics on my list sjksks destruction fic, the actors au i recently added...

I really want to start writing fics because writing has always been a passion of mine, and what better way to use it than to write about and interact with a fandom i'm passionate about as well, right? the problem is that i'm a 'gifted kid' with both adhd and depression, which makes for both lack of motivation and lack of attention span, even if I'm mentally obsessing over what I'm working on, I'll have a lot of trouble actually doing it. (1/2)

On top of that, I tend to back away or give up completely if I don't have an immediate knack for something or if I hit a roadblock of sorts. Do you have any tips for me, and, more specifically, for how to explore your passions even when your brain chemistry is kicking your ass? (2/2)

hi!! what a good question!!! I've always struggled with some of this myself so I'll do my best to give some good advice below the cut!!! 

- just a quick tw for anyone who may be sensitive to topics including depression or other similar mental health conditions! -

(i’ll talk about a few things regarding the adhd/depression and then I'll include some advice at the end for you!!! this got kind of long (sorry!) but if you read anything, make sure it’s the end!)

so this was something I struggled with big time for a while when I first started writing! I don’t have ADHD but I do have OCD, which is also quite the cocktail with depression so I feel your pain! i understand how frustrating it is because writing is very two sided in my experience, meaning on one hand it’s cathartic and eases anxiety, but on the other hand it can induce those negative feelings just as quickly as it got rid of them if you’re too overwhelmed while doing so.

depression is always the heavy hitter for me personally. I can have so many ideas and so much excitement for them and yet when I sit down to write everything seems so overwhelming that I end up backing out of it and leaving it for later for the millionth time. mine is mostly seasonal as well, so i go through periods of time (like these past few months) where i get very unmotivated and don’t write much at all. it’s an annoying cycle to then feel unproductive and know that you want to do it but you don’t do it but you feel like you should etc. etc..

the ADHD (or OCD in my case) seems to always be more of an environment issue for me. I really can only write more than a few sentences once I'm alone in the dead of night, when everyone else is asleep and I'm in control of my surroundings -- for example, the volume (music, fans, tv, etc), position (where I'm sitting, what’s around me), and being comfortable (comfy clothes, blankets, etc). I'm a big sensory person so if something’s even slightly brushing my arm in the wrong way, I can’t get into what I'm doing.

but i also understand what you mean strictly focus wise, when you’re trying to plan out your ideas and just keep jumping from one thing to another! (by the way i love that you mentioned when you're not good at something immediately you tend to give up - i do the same thing!) this is where i’ll try to give you some of the tips that helped me personally!

not too get too sappy, but to me the beauty of writing has always been that there is no right or wrong way to do it. the most difficult part of it is nailing down the fact that you should write for yourself and not simply to get hits or kudos or comments or anything. it should be fun and ultimately rewarding, and if it isn’t, don’t try to force yourself!

this is where the flip side of the adhd/depression + writing debate comes in -- finishing a piece of work can be one of the best feelings in the world, no matter how big or small or if other people enjoy it or not. because now you’ve got something that you can point to and say hey, i did that! i created this thing and put it into the world regardless of the challenges i might have encountered along the way or anyone else’s judgement! and that’s a wonderful feeling, especially if you’re like me when you feel lazy or unproductive half the time and the other half of you is constantly restless, full of energy with no other outlet for it.

so my advice to you would be to start small. it took me months to finish the first fic that i published because i split it up into portions and didn’t force myself if i truly didn’t want to write that day. to elaborate about ‘small’, there’s several different options!

before i got into fandom writing, poetry was the holy grail for me because it didn’t require much effort! i used my phone or the nearest notebook i had to just scribble down my feelings in just a few lines. it helped me feel better quickly just to get it off my chest, it wasn’t time consuming, and there was no planning required so it wasn’t overwhelming to me! poetry is fun to just play around with and you can kind of make up your own rules, so feel free to try that as a warm up or experiment as well!

but you mentioned specifically fics and fandom writing, so there are some options for that as well!

drabbles are a great idea as an intro to writing in my opinion! they’re wonderful practice for finding your ‘writing voice’ and learning which genres and topics you enjoy writing about before diving headfirst into a long fic! if you plan on publishing it, they’re also a great way to set the tone for readers of what your future works will be like! (another exercise similar to this is word prompts, where you choose a random word and just try to write and see what comes out!)

WIPs are fairly controversial, but who cares? if you’ve got something you want to write and you want to publish a chapter indefinitely throughout the year just when you feel like it, go for it! it’s still a creative outlet and it’s still you expressing yourself, which means it’s fully worth it.

that being said, my entire world changed after i started outlining. if you want to write a full fic to be published at once, the most helpful thing is to have a plan. it doesn’t have to be nailed down or perfect, but even just scribbling down some random scene ideas or plot points can help! from there, if you feel like it, you can go as detailed as you want and add things like goal word count, character bios, etc. until it begins to take the shape of a full story!

while keeping all of this in mind, i know i’m stressing it but it’s so important to remember that how you view this can be the change in how all of this pans out. writing for yourself is the goal here -- getting attached to hits or kudos or reblogs only provides temporary validation. it’s nice but it’s not going to give you that emotional payoff.

you mentioned that writing was a passion of yours and writing can be extremely cathartic, especially when you’re writing about an interest or something you love! no part of it should be extremely stressful or make you more anxious than when you started. i honestly can’t recommend it enough, even if you don’t share your first drafts or if you end up scrapping parts of it later on. no matter how long or short it is and no matter if it’s something you think people will read or not.

with depression and ADHD especially, writing is the perfect mix of pushing yourself and achieving goals without going too far, and it’s helped me in my own mental health journey immensely. (most of my works are just emotion-dumps where i use my characters and storylines to cope with whatever’s going on in my current life!) it’s a type of therapy in itself, and to be able to share it in a community of people that view it the same way is just an added bonus! 

speaking more generally regarding your point about trying to enjoy your interests while also dealing with mental health conditions that limit your ability to do so, my go-to method is always just to take it as it comes, or break it down into easier sections to deal with. if i’m doing something and i’m aware of and actively trying to fight an OCD tic (or in your case ADHD behavior), it’s only going to make me more anxious. so my advice would be to take a break and do something comforting to calm down, then return to what you were doing before. we have to remember to be kind to ourselves, especially in this weird time!

conversely, with depression, i try to push myself just slightly. my brain usually wants to give up and shut down and sometimes that’s okay too, but it usually pays off for me if i bargain with myself to keep going or keep trying, like promising myself a nap or some relaxing time if i can finish x amount of whatever i’m working on, if that makes sense. a little bit can go a long way!

how many of your stories are complete: idk, what are the parameters for this? because Written in the Stars is a short story trek collection with 60 chapters and each can be read as a stand alone work. There’s another of the same stand-alone style, Between Our Hands, with 11. if those count, then over 70 or possibly 80. if they don’t, then i guess over 20. i have a lot of wips. i really don’t like that fact.

That’s some important meta there. He is such a nonverbal processor that when he declares something verbally, it’s a commitment and he means it all, unequivocally, and everyone else had better hang on. I wonder if he realizes how most of the others are not like that: are more verbal processors whose words don’t carry quite the same level of decisiveness because they are forming and reforming their thoughts as words are spoken. Both ways are just fine, but scary if the difference is not understood.

why thank you. And I think while he knows intellectually that other people use words and emotions differently, he doesn’t really get it, which yeah, adds some heart-break to a lot of already difficult situations.

My children! I used to refer to them by ages, but I realized that got a little confusing as time passed and the blurbs kept changing (and the second one will of course eventually overlap old comments on the first one) so I changed it to Dr Seuss because Books Are Awesome. 

Fox in Socks is probably  my favorite, but Fox and Knox seemed less appropriate (and obvious a reference) than Thing 1 & Thing 2
