ヒーターから出る熱電子によるハム

　真空管の動作原理は、赤熱したカソードから飛び出した熱電子がプレートに飛び込むことでプレート電流が流れるしくみなわけですが、ヒーターも赤熱しているので、ヒーターからもわずかですが熱電子が飛び出します。ヒーターから飛び出した熱電子の主な行き先はカソードです。カソードはグリッドと同等にデリケートな電極ですから、ここにヒーターからの熱電子が飛び込むとハムの原因になります。

　熱電子はマイナスの電荷を持っていますから、ヒーターからみてカソードが相対的にマイナスになるようにしてやれば熱電子がカソードに飛び込むことはなくなります。アンプの回路の都合上カソードの電位は変えられませんから、ヒーター側にプラスの電位を与えることでハムが出ない状況を作り出せばいいのです。ヒーターにプラスの電位を与えなくても、アースと同じ電位を与える（ヒーター回路のどこか1個所をアースにつなぐ）だけでもハムはかなり減らせます。最も良くないのは、ヒーターに電位を与えないでアースなどから絶縁された状態にすることです。

　もうひとつの工夫としては、たとえカソードに熱電子が飛び込んだとしてもそれをアースに逃がしてしまうという方法があります。カソードをアースにつないでしまえばハムは出ません。カソード抵抗があっても、カソード抵抗に数十μF以上のコンデンサを抱かせても同じ効果があります。カソード抵抗にコンデンサを抱かせないで抵抗だけにするとばっちりとハムを拾います。

　熱電子は���ソードだけでなく、わずかですがすきまを縫ってグリッドにも飛び込みます。入力にCDプレーヤなどをつないだ状態で、ボリュームをminにした時にハムが消えて、12時以上でハムが大きくなり、maxでもハムが消えたのならこれが原因のハムが出ています。このハムを出なくするには、上記と同じくヒーターにプラスの電位を与えること、あるいは最低限アースと同じ電位を与える必要があります。この種のハムも、ヒーターを直流点火してしまえば根絶できます。
