Five years ago, I got to take my mom to Paris for her 80th birthday and I still love looking back at my sketchbook memories.

I’ve grown a lot as an artist since then, but they still make me smile.

June 18th, 2024 | I'm back from a two-weeks summer school in Milan! While I enjoyed it a lot and especially the social aspect of it (yes, I said what I said) it also made me realise I'm way too old to be sitting in a classroom all day for 10 days in a row 😂 I was pleased with how my schedule spread turned out in my bujo though, and with a bit of delay I finished my travel journal for this trip!

04.03.24// had been really busy lately, but i'm making a progress on my phd research which is great!! also, i've finished the ninth house yesterday (it was my third attempt actually) and i absolutely loved it - guess once you hit that 50 pages mark, you just can't put that thing down!

Is it weird that I can’t stop thinking about a trip I had almost two years ago? Even if it is, I am still feeling the repercussions of it and how it helped me see so many things in a different light. I truly believe that it was the cataclysm that pushed me forward to do so many things that year, and it will continue to linger in my memory for years to come, for one never forgets their first trip to Paris.

My holidays away with my parents are finished and I am back home. I did lots of exploring, got to an amazing medieval festival and a very long day in the car we finally got back home. My first day back was busier than I had planned, as we had to clean up and fix some stuff, because while qe were away it rained so much our garage flooded. Thankfully my brother got the water out before we got back, but there were more things to do, and thankfully we did everything today. I have a lot of work to do in my garden too, but that is a weekend activity as tomorrow I have work in the morning, and then I'll be spending a couple of days at a friend's place. I am also almeno done with my reread of the fellowship of the ring, which I'd like to finish in the next couple of days. I haven't decided yet if my next read is going to be the two towers or if I want to break up the reread with something short.

I think the best thing about keeping a travel journal is reading them years later and, because you took the time to sit in one place and paint, the memories are so much clearer than if you had just “snapped a photo” and left.

I can clearly remember the crowded plaza where I sketched the clock tower or the sun setting as I sat painting on the Grand Canal.

I wish I was a better traveler. But I’m happy I pushed myself to get out of the Hobbit Hole for this adventure.

4 hour boat ride through beautiful mountains that are older than anything I know and will be here long after I’m gone.

We pointed and asked the taxi driver what’s the name of that beautiful mountain — he laughed and said there are too many mountains to name them all.
