Since President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential election and endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, right-wing media have launched sexist and racist attacks at Harris to try to diminish her qualifications. They’ve claimed that she can’t be president because she doesn’t have biological children, labeled her “the ultimate diversity, equity, and inclusion candidate,” fixated on her laugh, claimed that she promotes "the occult,” and likened her to “Jezebel.”

Right-wing media have lobbed racist and sexist attacks at Harris for years, calling her a “DEI hire” who “gets more favorable treatment because of her race and gender.” Right-wing figures have also referred to Harris as an example of ”why DEI doesn’t work" and claimed she “launched her political career in [the] bedroom.” [Media Matters, 7/3/24, 7/11/24]

The right-wing media are already resorting to the tired old playbook of using racist and sexist tropes to attack apparent Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

A Oscar appreciation post because I love him so much. Even though some are old with zero consistency.

Also him and Heather, I adore them.

19/12/23: Updating this to include his story; Father's Gambit

14/01/24: Remembered write his backstory... more or less.

Oscar James Sunderland is James’s son, a product of a one night stand with Oriana (a OC, who alongside her husband Charles are a part of the Valtiel sect of the Order) born in October 1991.

He was handed over to Frank by Charles after Oriana died during childbirth. (I’ve considered the possibility that Oscar is Walter’s half-brother. Same mum, different fathers idk yet)

He’s albino, inherited from Frank (he’s albino) and Oriana. With it he’s very blind preferring contacts over glasses but keeps a pair just in case.

He also has crippling arachnophobia after being bitten by one and another crawling on his face.

He was raised by James and Mary mostly alongside Alex, who is Mary’s nephew. The couple planned to adopt Alex but Mary fell ill and lost contact with him towards the end of Mary’s life. 

During the last year of Mary’s life; a year prior to SH2, James sent Oscar to live with Frank as he couldn’t cope with caring for both Mary and Oscar.

When SH2 (1998, Oscar would be 7) happened James abruptly whisked Oscar away with to Silent Hill under the guise of seeing Mary one last time… but it was so James can commit a murder/suicide.

Oscar had no monsters of his own but did see his father’s monsters and they ignored him. This also includes the PH who was his guardian during the times that Oscar and James got separated.

They got separated in Brookhaven after Laura locked James in a room. He fought Laura to get the key back but was too late, James had been whisked off into the Otherworld so PH babysat Oscar.

The PH would also escort him through the prison level after being too scared to jump after his dad.

Oscar’s arachnophobia developed into entomophobia

After finding out the truth, James took Oscar and Laura back to his car. He left Oscar with his jacket and said his goodbyes before taking off in his car to drive it into the lake. Both sat abandoned at the entrance to the town before Travis came along and picked them.

He had every intention to take the kids to Brahms but bumped into Aubrey McLynne (OC) on the way when stopping for gas.

It was then Aubrey took over, Travis was all too happy to hand the kids to a lady. It was awkward and Laura was pretty chatty.

The McLynnes ended up adopting Laura. They tried to reunite Oscar with Frank but Frank felt he was better off with them. They looked rich, surely they could get the help Oscar needed. (Frank was wrong about getting therapy) So the McLynnes adopted Oscar, they were taught how to fight, both doing kickboxing/boxing from 8 and 9.

Frank and Oscar’s relationship greatly suffered and were barely communicating

In 2004, the family moved from Brahms to Chamberlain when the kids were in the 8th grade (Oscar 13 and Laura 14).

It was then that Oscar met Heather, they were classmates before becoming friends (Heather is a grade behind due her stunted education)

In 2005, Oscar and Frank reconnected thanks to Murphy who had moved into the apartments. Murphy befriended Frank and offered to taxi Oscar to and from his home. The long drives enabled Murphy and Oscar to develop a father and son relationship

Between here and SH3, 2007. Oscar, 14 who once had a gap tooth now has upper front partial dentures after smashing his teeth in. He was trying to impress Heather while on a dirtbike… failed miserably.

And whilst working on a car with Murphy, Oscar’s right ring and pinky fingers were crushed under a wheel severing his pinky while degloving the other. They were amputated. It was a few months prior to SH3, so he was 16. (Oscar also got a DeLorean for his 16th birthday as his first car)

He also has a talent for acting and got the lead role in their school’s drama club production of Footloose which got Heather to fall for him.

As SH3 happened, Oscar and Heather were on their first date at a mall then a movie, possibly to see either The Mist or Paranormal Activity…. They had their own horror movie instead.

During Silent Hill, he gets a lovely cut on his forehead after Heather throws the seal of Metatron at him. He scared her with his red eyes. He also does get injured after cracking his ribs from taking the brunt of the fall from the rollercoaster for Heather. 

He also gets a bisexual awakening from Vincent after he tends to the cut on his forehead.

Oscar also became a dad to Harper, a baby that appeared after god was slain. (Basically a reincarnation of Alessa)

After SH3, Heather moves into Oscar’s place until they graduated school at 18. It was also at 18 that he was made to work for his adoptive father, Russell. Russell is the drug warlord/don/head of a gang and he made Oscar his personal hitman. He orders him to kill a person, under duress that if he doesn't, his family will be killed. Oscar did as he was told but also pointed the gun at Russell in anger, because of this the boy was beaten within an inch of his life.

From his injuries, Oscar developed nystagmus (eye twitching)

After this, Oscar with Heather and Harper moved to Ashfield into the apartments. Although he still worked for Russell (he had 20 hits before the crash). He reunites with Alex, who Travis brought back. He also married Heather at 25 and fathering a child (Anya) with her at 26 via IVF (and Eileen also carried her)

Oh and he runs a charity that helps Ashfield homeless/poverish population purely self-serving, for he has a guilty conscious.

One Game Below .500

With the Atlanta Braves sweeping the New York Yankees in this recent series, all hope is lost in the Yankees making the postseason, even in a wild-card spot.

Game one of this series started as promising with the Yankees scoring first in the first inning. That inning began with 3B Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the leadoff spot getting a base hit. IKF would score on CF Harrison Bader's groundout to SS Orlando Arcia to 1B Matt Olson.

Usually when the Yankees score first in a game, they go on to win it. This game would end differently. In the bottom of the first inning, 3B Austin Riley hit a solo home run off of RHP Clarke Schmidt to tie the game 1-1.

Schmidt was born and raised in Georgia and grew up a Braves fan. He had over 50 family members and friends in attendance that night. You would think that would motivate him to pitch well, but the Baseball Gods would have other plans.

In the top of the second inning, IFK hit an RBI single, giving the lead back to the Yankees 2-1. In trying to stretch a single into a double, IFK overslid on second base and was tagged out for the third out.

At the bottom of the second inning, 2B Nicky Lopez hit a two-run RBI single, making it 3-2 Braves. After that, CF Michael Harris II drove in Lopez with a single of his own, making it 4-2 Braves.

Fast forward to the bottom of the third inning, LF Eddie Rosario hit a two-run single, driving in C Travis d'Arnaud and DH Marcell Ozuna. It was 6-2 Braves.

The implosion of Schmidt continued when Arcia and Lopez both hit RBI singles, making it 8-2 Braves.

When the bottom of the sixth inning rolled around, relief pitcher Albert Abreu threw a wild pitch in the dirt, causing Riley to score. It was 9-2 Braves.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Rosario hit a two-run home run, making it 11-2 Braves.

In the top of the ninth inning, SS Anthony Volpe hit an RBI triple, scoring PH for 1B DJ LeMahieu, Billy McKinney. This would be the last time not only in this game, but in this series that the Yankees would score any runs. It was a 11-3 final in game one.

The Yankees would be shut out and held to one hit in game two by RHP Bryce Elder. LeMahieu was the player with the one hit and the Yankees lost 5-0.

RHP Luis Severino found his groove in between giving up two home runs to Ozuna (three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning) and RF Ronald Acuña, Jr. (two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning), respectively.

Severino wasn’t as horrible as he has been for most of this season, but he wasn’t good enough to win this game. The lack of offensive by the Yankees didn’t help, either.

In game three, the Yankees would be shut out once again, but RHP Charlie Morton this time. The Yankees elected to use youngster Randy Vásquez to start/open this game.

Vásquez pitched well, making only one mistake to Rosario, who hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. That was the only time the Braves would score in this game, so the final score was 2-0 Braves.

A side not of game three was that relief pitcher Michael King ate up some innings after Vásquez went 3.1 innings. King went nearly four innings at 3.2 innings.

There have been talks of King being used as a starter due to the injuries and ineffectiveness of the starting rotation. Maybe this last game was a good test for King just in case the Yankees decide to go that route.

I don’t think that the Yankees should go through with this because of what happened to former pitcher Joba Chamberlain during his time with the Yankees.

The Yankees had Chamberlain go back and forth being used out of the bullpen and as a starter. These Joba rules messed with Chamberlain’s game and pitching ability.

He was never the same pitcher during the rest of his time with Yankees and even when he departed from the organization.

Fingers crossed that the Yankees come up with something else in lieu of using King as a starter.

It's the latest in a long line of acoustic versions that the band have been releasing as of late. - Anxious revealed that they have signed a record deal with Run for Cover Records, as well as released a new single titled “Call From You.” The track follows on from a two-track EP called New Shapes that they released earlier this year. - Real Friends shared a new cover of the Smashing Pumpkins' 1995 hit “Tonight, Tonight.” The band also recently released reimagined versions of their tracks “Nervous Wreck” and “Storyteller.” - Mayday Parade shared a new song titled “Bad at Love.” The song follows on from their previous single “Kids of Summer,” which serves as an ode to their Vans Warped Tour days.

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

- Neck Deep announced a pair of warm-up shows ahead of their main stage appearance at Reading & Leeds festival later this month. The band are set to perform at Wrexham's William Aston Hall on August 24 and in Chester at The Live Rooms on August 25. - Architects revealed that they have rescheduled their upcoming tour of the UK/Europe to later in 2022. The tour will now kick off on May 2 in Leeds and end on May 20 in Frankfurt. - Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes joined Yungblud onstage during his show at London's O2 Kentish Town Forum last week. The performance marked the pair’s live debut of their collab song “Obey.” - As It Is announced two warm-up shows ahead of their appearance at Slam Dunk Festival next month. The band will play Brighton's Patterns venue on September 1 and Swansea's Sin City on September 2. - Reading & Leeds Festival announced that Spiritbox, Gallows and Cleopatrick will no longer be playing. In addition, the festival added Dinosaur Pile-Up, Holding Absence and Loathe to the lineup. - Yungblud delivered a cover of David Bowie's classic track “Heroes” at Great Britain’s Olympic homecoming concert. It was the second time this year that the singer has covered Bowie, taking on “Life On Mars” at a recent celebration concert. - Palaye Royale are set to play a free acoustic show in Los Angeles this coming Saturday at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue. The band will also be playing at The Wiltern on October 1, with support from De’Wayne and Mothica. - Foo Fighters announced that they will be making a return to the United Kingdom next summer. The band will play three shows in June and one London show in July with multiple guests. - All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth joined Blackbear onstage at his show last night in Texas for a performance of their smash hit “Monsters.” They also performed the song last week at Sad Summer Fest in Anaheim, California.
