wait, what do you mean we gotta suspend disbelief about franco's height? what for?

Franco is much taller in-game than he is in the comic. In fact, he's the same height as every other ex-pop or prime asset, since only the giant ex-pops get any special treatment.

Honestly, it really bugs me that his height is supposed to be a defining trait, but in-game, it just doesn’t matter. I get that it would’ve required entirely new motion captures, but still, wouldn’t it add so much to his character if he visibly struggled with things like reaching into barrels or dragging out reagents? I think he would’ve been worth the extra effort, but whatever, I guess that just means they never planned to include any other short characters.

With Coyle and Gooseberry, we never see them close enough to others to make solid height comparisons. But with Franco, there’s plenty of evidence that he’s short. For example, from what we see of Clyde Perry in the comic, he’s not a tall guy, and Franco is clearly shorter than him.

Even with the odd angles and keeping perspective in mind, Franco is a lil guy.

I think he is, or at least was supposed to exhibit some level of medical dwarfism, but either there was a change of heart or technical limitations stopped Red Barrels from running with it... or, as I said, we're just supposed to suspend our disbelief. His facial features resemble those of someone with Pfeiffer Syndrome (type one), so maybe it was a fear of demonising or infantilising people with disabilities that kept them from implementing his proper height. But that seems like an odd line to draw, considering the stuff they pull in the rest of The Trials.

I think Franco's outfit adds to his bulky appearance in-game, and I reckon he was given that suit at Sinyala. Because the fact is, on the outside, the Barbis were rich enough to afford proper clothes tailoring, which would have made Franco look far more proportional. I think they deliberately put him in an oversized suit to make him seem more childish, despite how big they made him in-game.

It's good character design, and it works regardless of how big or small a character is. Putting someone in oversized clothing is usually a reliable way to make them seem more childlike. It's why, at nearly 30, I can still get a child ticket for the bus, because I am height-deficient and I live in oversized hoodies.

Furthermore, everyone in the game describes him as short. I'm not combing through every single line of dialogue, since it's all very well documented on the wiki, but both Coyle and Gooseberry reference Franco’s short stature constantly in their Prime Time dialogue.

Mother Gooseberry calls Franco "little man" in the majority of her lines, as well as "dapper little fellow," which I thought was incredibly cute.

Coyle, on the other hand, is much less flattering but definitely more descriptive. He calls Franco things like "runt of the litter," "half-sized pile of shit," "s'like somebody cut a man in half," and so on.

Unrelated, but since this is a Coyle blog, I think I'll add this at the tail end. For as much as people depict Coyle as tall, I really don't think he would be. Partially because nobody comments on it in any way. If we were supposed to read Coyle as tall, I think Gooseberry would probably have called him "tall, dark, and handsome," or something similar. If he were 6'0 or over, he would be considered tall.

5'8 was the average height for a man during the 1950s, and we should remember that this guy grew up during the Great Depression, which ended when he was roughly 16, so it's quite possible he didn't reach his full adolescent potential due to malnourishment. Frankly, I think the only reason he manages to lift that prisoner with one hand the way he does is because he's off his tits on whatever drugs Murkoff gives them. He certainly doesn't look strong enough to do it without a little enhancement.

But that's just my hypothesis, people can obviously enjoy him and depict him however they like, I'm not the fun police. I just like to gather evidence and show it to everyone like some sort of academic magpie. This is all in good fun

Something that really fucks me up about Franco is how his first crime was just… being undesirable?

Like, when you really come down to it, Franco is everything his father SHOULD have wanted. He was a first born/only son; he was still capable of being cutthroat; and, in his adulthood, he was notoriously good at what he did, as a mafioso and business man. But his father hated him from the start because… he just looked like that. He wasn’t a typical kid.

Sure, the stepmother thing rightfully pissed him off, but his father detested him even before that just by merit of- what?- his disability? The fact that he was maybe more emotional and childish??

It’s REALLY sad, and it’s something I take into account when I write him.

i finished reading krakoa era and comic cherik are amazing SO i wanted to ask do you have any favorite issues/series i still don't really remember how to call it where cherik are also cool?? some iconis comic moments with them maybe??

im FARRR from finishing all of krakoa (ive probably barely even made a dent in this series), though i do think following the HoX + PoX issues themselves are great if we're talkin cherik-focused issues/books. i already said one of my fave aspects of cherik is their moments working together, so having a whole Omnibus dedicated to them Working Together and trusting each other (bonus points for Protective Erik with the Something Sinister bit) is already guaranteeing a sure spot in my Faves collection

one of my fave cool moments i've read so far- which is a moment i wager a lot of people can agree is Sick As Hell Visually if i may be so daring- is ABSOLUTELY this sequence from Inferno #4

any time erik and charles get to do some bamf shit together it is IMMEDIATELY peak to me this cannot be disputed and i'd be lying if i didn't say i bought this run solely for this moment here (ignore the fact they fumble this fight horribly that dont matter they looked cool as hell for five seconds !!!!!!!!!!!)

i can't wait to read more and find even more moments i love and want to tape to my eyelids <3 !!

it’s not a coincidence that lissa’s spirit skills grow substantially once rose comes back. for one thing, she’s motivated to learn things like charming objects for rose’s sake, which gives her the push she needs. but if that were the only factor, she’d have learned to walk dreams when rose left.

i think her rapid improvement is largely because, once she starts to take back responsibility for her safety and well-being and starts to detangle herself from her codependency with rose, she is empowered in her own right. since spirit is all about giving parts of yourself, it makes perfect sense that when she treats rose like a friend again, and not a crutch or a shield, her spirit truly starts to blossom.

Any theories as to why that hostel video has been deleted? Kinda sus how it was just randomly posted, gained lots of views then suddenly it's gone... Also I'm curious to know if LM legal team is aware of the video.

i feel like it's important to remember that the video was posted eight days before the public got its eyes on the video, eight days before yesterday was exactly a day before his SDNY pretrial hearing where he wore green and had hundreds of people supporting him at the courthouse

but unfortunately for whoever posted nobody was looking for or watching the video, this was clearly not the intended effect

so about a week after uploading the video, when it became clear it wasn't causing the waves it was supposed to, somebody on reddit was tipped off about the video (now i know somebody who watched the video could have tipped them off but like what are the chances of that happening with how we know how youtube functions???)

coincidentally this happened at the heels of TD submitting motions for suppression of evidence because he wasn't mirandaized before getting arrested/frisked/questioned

and people lost their shit upon watching the video, which imo is incredibly dumb because we already knew he was in altoona and we already knew he'd been trying to get a room at a local hotel/motel, like surely he didn't teleport out of nowhere when he was arrested at the mcdonald's right??? he had indeed been there and if we take the hashbrown letter to be real, he's not pretending to not be there because well, he actually was there

but the tone of the video implied whatever is the exact opposite of the presumption of innocence, it also said he was disguised when inquiring at the motel but like i dress exactly like that during winter???? hoodie (with beanie if it's too cold), mufflers, and i also wear masks whenever i'm out??? i never really stopped wearing masks??? and i also carry and use hand sanitizers almost every time i touch things like doors??? i would also behave like he was doing in that video because i'm just not very good at interacting with people i don't already know, it might imply nervousness to the layperson and it isn't at all, not everybody is getting grade A's at talking to shopkeepers/hotel owners like my mom

also he doesn't appear cagey at all???? and he's looking at his watch and looking outside and contemplating what to do, not because of any other reason except that it was too damn cold and it was raining and he was soaked and it was early in the morning and he just wanted food??? he just didn't want to get out in the rain and win the award for being the most famous sad wet cat in history at that moment. and honestly that's an extremely normal reaction to the situation

also the hotel clerk was telling him when rooms would be free to let and he was trying gauge how much time he'd need to kill to get back

people who're painting his behaviour as sketchy or going it's so over genuinely don't have a clue on how people around them act in similar situations (because clearly they don't behave like that or else they'd understand what's happening)

so what with people's reactions to the video and the media leaking things randomly out of nowhere (see supposed notebook being called manifesto) and the fact that it was posted before the hearing and became viral after the submission of the motion, it was clearly a smear campaign and i'm sad to say that it worked on a lot of people

a vast number of older people immediately started armchair diagnosing him and calling him whatever they wanted because it was somehow against their image of america's darlingest boy and i don't know why or how but the hashbrown joke also didn't go over well with them (i found it funny tho??? gen z regularly makes jokes like that and i do too???)

so yeah the video did whatever it was intended to do when it was supposedly leaked and i was wondering whether his legal team knows about it because public perception is very important for his case particularly, somebody commented and reminded me that even if they didn't know already before they surely do now because everybody is talking about it, i sure hope nothing major comes out of a video that really means nothing

As for the rest, there will be more answers in the upcoming chapters! 😉 Tho I will at least say, Lee knows as much as the Institute has in Angel's file, and what Angel has told him directly :3 There's an awful lot he Should know that he Doesn't, hm! :)

How do you think Gracie, Jerry and Yan got claimed?

Cos they're obviously established as Apollo's kids by the time Lester and Meg show back up to camp, but Apollo has been in absolutely no state to claim them as his children.

Did they just show amazing Apollo-specific skills and everyone was like ah must be Cabin 7? Or was it process of elimination; those three were the only kids not claimed so re: the Jackson agreement (all the gods having to claim their children, I think that was part of the deal), it had to be Apollo since he's currently mortal? Did one of the other gods (Artemis) go 'ocrap they need to be claimed and Apollo is currently unavailable' and do it for him?

This is actually a very good question, considering Jack’s school is a boarding school, so his usual residence would be the Graysmark School for Bright Young Men, but he does mention that he’s been living at the Deucalion for “the past few years”, so it’d be safe to assume that he straight up doesn’t have another home, or at least, that he doesn’t go there.

I think the most popular theory is that he’s an orphan, since there’s no real mention or name for his parents, but I’d like to propose an alternative that’s a tad bit angstier: due to his knack, which we know he dislikes, his parents sent him over to Jupiter, so that they wouldn’t have to deal with it.

Allow me to elaborate on this. When we first meet Jack, he immediately dislikes Morrigan, correct? He doesn’t know anything about her other than the fact that she’s now his uncle’s protégé. Why would that be? Sure, we could chalk it up to him being a kid, but he’s around 13 in Nevermoor, I think that’s a little older than the time kids just decide they don’t like someone. No, what if he felt that way out of fear? What if he felt like, after his parents shipped him off, the only family he had contact with was trying to replace him?

It’d make for him to avoid his knack like he does, too. If he got basically pawned off because of it, wouldn’t it make sense that he’d try to use it as little as possible, like with his eyepatch? Sure, Jupiter is also a witness, he could teach Jack how to move past the discomfort and time things out in a way that’s sustainable. But would Jack want to learn? If his knack was deemed too much work for even his parents, would he even want to try and master it?
