To me the autism to autism communication thing seems very interestingly like cross cultural communication. Idk it reminds me of how while I love speaking to people from the middle east who moved/are visiting here, because they're SO FRIENDLY by canadian standards, if they're new here then they also often don't know about Canadian personal space bubbles, which are rather large by many cultures standards. Like they'll just stand like.. right there. Just in front of me. Speaking directly into my face. And to them I'm sure canadians seem rather standoffish and a little cold, like how Scandanavians seem to Canadians.

almost SOBBED when i saw your spiderman oc was trinidadian/french, I NEVER SEE ANYMENTION OF TRINIDADIAN PEEPS ON HERE AND TO SEE SUCH A COOL OC ITS LIKE - CRYING ( i have my own spider-sona who's uhhh canadian-born but his parents were from the caribbean + have my own other one from trinidad cause projection ) much love and much praises for that specific thing i hope this isn't like uncomfy for you but it's like - representation even if it's kinda small
OMG NO NOT AT ALL!! I’m very happy that this little detail made you happy!! As a Trinidadian myself I never really see my people/culture being represented (feels like in terms of all the Caribbean islands we aren’t talked about all too much in fiction)—so I wanted to create a little something that would speak to everyone but also my fellow Caribbean people as well!! Tysm for the kind words also, this made my day✨😭 (Sorry for the late reply btw I’m still getting used to this app)💀

Homestuck race/ethnicity nationality headcanons
Since the beta/alpha kids are like pure white in the comics my brain immediately envisioned them as white and unfortunately it’s still the first place my mind goes but I do like to think most of them aren’t totally white
The trolls are based mostly on canon references, vibes, their lands in sburb, and their dancestors
John and Jane: white | polish/dutch | american (washington)
They’re white and nerdy sorry
Rose and Roxy: white/middle eastern | french/egyptian | american (new york)
I’m all for french lalondes but I also remembered Roxy’s planet had pyramids and decided they were Egyptian too
Dave and Dirk: white/east asian | spanish/japanese | american (texas)
The striders live in Texas so they’re most likely Spanish descent but they also reference Japanese culture so often that I just had to include it
Jade and Jake: white/pacific islander | english/tongan | american (phoenix islands)
The Britishness is from Jake and the polynesian part is from jade, they’re tan af
Aradia: latina/east asian | mexican/japanese | japanese
I know that canonically she’s supposed to be Japanese so she is part japanese but the dark curly hair, desert climate, obsession with death (day of the dead) made me assume she was Latina the first time I read the comic 🤷‍♀️
Tavros: latino/southeast asian | mexican/filipino | mexican
Man’s obviously latino and I made him Filipino because the actor rufioh is based off is filipino
Sollux: white/east asian | french/korean | canadian (quebec)
French because I immediately decided he was Canadian so french is statistically likely but he also has some Asian vibes so I chose the one country that’s split in two, obviously
Karkat: white | romanian/jewish | american (maine)
Karkat is super pale in such a way that his eye bags are extremely noticeable. He’s Romanian as a reference to vlad the impaler and all the castle ruins in Romania which remind me of his land. He’s Jewish for vibe reasons. Maine for lobsters and and crabs 🦀
Nepeta: white | english/german | american (tennessee)
Because I picture her with blonde hair (like a lions mane). She lives near the Smokey mountains where there are a small population of mountain lions and she’s a crazy wilderness explorer. Think of how cute she’d be with a Tennessee accent
Kanaya: south asian/middle eastern | indian/iranian | american (pennsylvania)
Vibes, imagine her in a sari or any other traditional Indian clothes, she’d be stunning
Terezi: white | greek/irish | greek
The scales, democracy, hello? Also she’s absolutely a red head
Vriska: white | greek/turkish | cypriot
Vriska is definitely white and she’s a pirate so instead of Caribbean (which is mostly black) she’s Mediterranean.
Equius: black | sudanese | american (kentucky)
He’s definitely black and he has locs like you wouldn’t believe. Kentucky because of mammoth cave as a reference to his land and also because of the horse derby
Gamzee: black/white | beninese/portuguese | brazilian
Hes definitely black coded in some ways but the icp are white sooo he’s both. I made him Brazilian for carnival
Eridan: white | scottish/english | american (california)
It’s giving imperialism and Silicon Valley simultaneously
Feferi: white/black | italian/trinidadian | italian
The only reason she’s half white is because I picture her with this light red strawberry blonde hair and it’s also a reference to the Roman Empire. She’s Trinidadian because I headcanon meenah as having a voice like nicki minaj

What is it you see when you enter a legendary place? Not the place itself, surely, not the place in and of itself. Rather, you see it through a curtain of ghosts, expectations, and legend.

I'll never get over how FUNNY it was for me to be like
"I feel so sad and like I'm disconnected from black culture. People talk about all this stuff online and I have no relationship to it. I'm so upset that I feel like I'm not REALLY black because of this disconnect from black american culture. "
And my brother just being like

Ebon Bon's dog Twizlee being shot for a commercial.
Ebon Bon blog
Hi guys… isn't Twizlee so sweet looking. I have Trinidadian descent and on the island they have a creature named the Ligahoo, who carries a casket while headless and shapeshifts into various things. And that does include dog's. My dog is Canadian, wouldn't know anything about this.

Blog Tour + #Review: DELICIOUS MONSTERS by Liselle Sambury!
Tumblr media
Welcome to Book-Keeping and my stop on the Turn the Page Tours blog tour for Delicious Monsters by Liselle Sambury! This YA horror was one of my most-anticipated reads for 2023, and boy did it deliver! I’m so excited to tell you all about the book and my review, so let’s go!
About the Book
Tumblr media
title: Delicious Monsters author: Liselle Sambury publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books release date: 28 February 2023
The Haunting of Hill House meets Sadie in this evocative and mind-bending psychological thriller following two teen girls navigating the treacherous past of a mysterious mansion ten years apart.
Daisy sees dead people—something impossible to forget in bustling, ghost-packed Toronto. She usually manages to deal with her unwanted ability, but she’s completely unprepared to be dumped by her boyfriend. So when her mother inherits a secluded mansion in northern Ontario where she spent her childhood summers, Daisy jumps at the chance to escape. But the house is nothing like Daisy expects, and she begins to realize that her experience with the supernatural might be no match for her mother’s secrets, nor what lurks within these walls…
A decade later, Brittney is desperate to get out from under the thumb of her abusive mother, a bestselling author who claims her stay at “Miracle Mansion” allowed her to see the error of her ways. But Brittney knows that’s nothing but a sham. She decides the new season of her popular Haunted web series will uncover what happened to a young Black girl in the mansion ten years prior and finally expose her mother’s lies. But as she gets more wrapped up in the investigation, she’ll have to decide: if she can only bring one story to light, which one matters most—Daisy’s or her own?
As Brittney investigates the mansion in the present, Daisy’s story runs parallel in the past, both timelines propelling the girls to face the most dangerous monsters of all: those that hide in plain sight.

My 5-Star Review
Delicious Monsters was one of my most-anticipated reads of 2023, and boy did it deliver! I was so ready for a creepy, horror-filled tale, and that’s exactly what I got -- whether it’s body horror or birds (oh how I hate birds, and this book did not help!), it’s all in here. We’ve got the tale of a mansion we keep hearing is “dangerous,” told from the POV of two teen Black girls a decade apart: Daisy, in the past, and Brittney, in the present. Daisy and her mom inherit the cursed mansion and move up to live on the grounds and turn the house into an Airbnb. Brittney, who grew up with an awful, abusive mother who has since become famous for “turning her life around” after a stay at the mansion, is a YouTube documentarian. She and her partner are working on their show, “Haunted,” with a season she wants to be about forgotten Black girls. Slowly, slowly, the story unravels before us, alternating timelines and POVs, and I swear you will be unable to look away from the horror that you know is around the corner.
This story is creeptastic and spooky and just fabulously horrific, and I mean that in the best way. We need more YA horror like this! Also, I have to mention *that cover*, which I’m declaring now as my favorite cover of the year. I can’t imagine *anything* coming along that will beat the creepy beauty of this one!
Rating: 5 stars!
Side note: Delicious Monsters will be our April pick for #getthrilledbuddyreads on Insta, so be sure and follow me if you’d like to join!
