Hey so my last class in college I had to do a presentation on sex robots (specifically had to argue that they’re socially problematic and BOY are they...). Anyway I’m going to list some facts I have learned to you. 1) There are sex robot brothels in Japan and South Korea (might be the other Korea I’m sorry I’m bad at geography). The Korean one gave you a room, a sexbot, and a computer with access to pornography. They suggested that these (and sex doll brothels) can and should replace human prostitution. 2) Roxxxy TrueCompanion (a professional second production company) sells, on average, 4000 sex robots per year, at a rate of about US$9000 per robot. 3) 82% of sex robot products are styled to imitate the female body. 4) Roxxxy TrueCompanion also offers a program option called Frigid Farrah, which is designed to vocally and physically resist sexual advances (all robots in this company are designed to achieve orgasm with every use... enforcing rape culture, there, guys?) 5) Sex DOLLS shaped to imitate a child’s body have been used to rehabilitate pedophiles, and the research suggested child sexbots to join the market by 2025. 6) There are some devices that are considered sexbots, but don’t have human bodies or AI functioning. I don’t remember what my group mate said they were called, but there’s one where you use the device to send a kiss to a long distance partner. 7) prostitutes don’t like sexbots. 1. World’s Strongest Man/Fastest Gun in the West/World’s Most Beautiful Women/World’s Best Warrior/Greatest Gamer/Take your pick: “World’s Best” Characters This is always a super interesting trope to see appear, because (at least for me) it almost never truly backfires. On a hero, you get to see the journey to their position as whatever, if not that, explore what it means to be at the top, how that affects them, and if all of that fails; you get to see someone being super cool and awesome! What’s not to love.

2. Superpowered Evil Side

The potential of this trope is just so cool, and always extremely epic to see in action. The sudden shift in the mood of the scene, the sudden boost in power. The realization that whoever’s fighting the guy with the Superpowered Evil Side is about to get annihilated.

3. True Companions

I kind of feel like I’m obligated to put Found Family on this list, given its a Tumblr Ask, but I’m genuinely more fond of its little brother (lol) trope, True Companions. The smaller relative size of the group often allows for deeper exploration of the characters and relationships involved. Also, I like saying “True Companions” better than “Found Family”. Like, I shouldn’t, since I love alliteration, but something about the phrase, “True Companions” sounds badass.

4. Damsel in Distress

This is a strange one, as I’m just as invested in the discussion around the trope as I am in the Trope itself. The many different ways of executing it, how to do it “right”, how to do it “wrong”, what makes it good, what makes it bad, how it affects the characters or group dynamics. It can also lead to some fun rescue scenes (or rescue romances, if that’s your thing).

A lot of you have probably seen it, but I’ll put it here anyway for those who haven’t, those who want to see it again, and just for completion sake. 

HONORABLE MENTION: Unstoppable Force versus Immovable Object

This one is mainly here because it feels like it goes hand in hand really well with the final trope on this list. The clash between two seemingly unbeatable things, is just something that often fun to see.

5. Worthy Opponent

This is easily the sexiest trope in the existence of tropes. Two foes who acknowledge each other as proper opponents, a foe to be savored, someone who can be fought to the fullest strength, someone who can bring you the fight of their life, a fight you’ll never forget and enjoy. A fight where all the fluff falls to the side, all the details and past fall away, none of that matters. All that matters is this conflict before you, and the opponent across you who made this fight possible.

True Companions are just like a real family — they may not necessarily like each other, or actually have liked each other at first, but they know they can depend upon each other in a crisis. It is a relationship considered to be deeper than mere friendship but more innocent than romance.

This sort of group dynamic appeals to younger audiences who are unfamiliar with romance, and appeals to older audiences who live in a world of complex relationships and convenience masqueraded as False Friendship, who are feeling nostalgic about the times when friendship meant a lifelong bond.

A writer may use this to avoid writing romantic relationships, though this usually doesn't stop fans from making up their own.

This trope was originally known as nakama, a Japanese word that means friends or companions.note
