Liwayway didn't so much rap her knuckles on the door as claw at it, gently, before nudging the door open and slipping inside the moonlit room. It was largely as she’d left it; bed neat, their hanten hung on pegs by the door, and Tomi sitting in a chair next to the window. Trying to move as quietly as he did over snow, Lili went to set the mug of tsokolate she’d brought for him on the nightstand.

It seemed, suddenly, like such a small, silly thing to bring him. As though a little chocolate could make up for having his mother’s ghost dangled in front of him like bait into a trap.

The moon illuminated the side of his face furthest from her. Tomi had scarcely moved until he'd heard the mug touch down. He flashed a glum smile, though it took effort to turn his gaze away from the glittering snow still falling outside. Slowly, he folded down, resting his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands. "What was for dinner?"

She perched on the arm of the chair, running a firm, comforting hand over his back. "Chanasan mankh.  I can get you a bowl if you want. Thought the chocolate might be better."

"No, tsokolate is more than enough," he said. Looking up at her he wore no expression save a half-hearted smile that didn’t reach his eyes. He gestured shortly toward the moon cresting near the Crown’s distant point.

"When I was young I wanted to be as cold as Devotion's pale light." He snorted at that. "May I ask you for something? It's okay to say no. I won't be devastated."

"You can ask me for anything."

He paused.

"Would you sit on my lap for a little while; look out the window with me? I just want to listen to your heart for a bit."

Voice light and quiet as the moonlight, she teased, "Ask me for the moon herself, why don't you?"

But a gentle claw hooked beneath his chin, lifting his face enough that she might kiss him, sweet and soft. After, she slipped off the arm of the chair and into his arms, winding herself around him.

Laying his head against her breast, Tomi resumed his watch over the snowy landscape outside. Her heartbeat was strong. Steady. Listening to it, his eyes slowly closed to everything else around him. All the thoughts swirling inside him began to quiet beneath that drumbeat. Listening to her heart, he found… life.

Tomi hadn’t realized how cold he’d become until the warmth began to creep back in, seeping from her skin into his. Pleasing and secure.

A long while later—longer than it felt—his hand rose to brush aside the fabric of her shirt, so that he could rest his fingers against the bare scar over her heart. Quietly, he said: "This is a small, good thing, and it is very important to me."

He sealed the message with a kiss on that spot and looked up at her. "Thank you."

Gawd their size difference kills me every time. It makes posing them together a bit difficult, and yet I'm here for it.

Soooo we got a bit of a story with one, edited to hopefully make a bit of sense to those who don't know the world/context. The gist is that, as half-Eladrin, Tomi and Lili both have some fairly negative associations with the Eladrin Courts' buuuuut Tomi's associations are worse than hers. This is the aftermath of them being surprised with an offer: Tomi would be allowed to return to the Winter Cour where he would, effectively, have access to his mother's grave site, but only if he submits himself to his racist grandfather's authority. This dredged up some old and extremely difficult emotions for him.

Poor baby just needs hugs. Luckily, he's slowly learning that it's okay to ask for them.

Also took a shot at Lili's light-up scales. XD This is a relatively new problem for her adult self, but it's a "problem" with benefits. On one hand, her scales have started changing colour with her emotions, which leads to all kinds of drama as people misinterpret her. On the other hand, they also have a noticeable haptic response whenever Tomi touches her that does a ton to soothe his insecurities.

Lucanis slid an arm around her waist and kissed her, tentative and shy. He had not kissed anyone in a long time or ever really and so he was unsure how to move his mouth or if he should tighten his hands around her waist. The training he received on seduction as a fledgling Crow was a foggy distant memory at best. Seduction was Illario's specialty, not his. A small voice in his head doubted Rook's intentions, that she would break the kiss and run away.

Then she kissed him back. Oh. She was kissing him back.

With an instant clarity, everything, the stolen glances, his burning desire to protect her, begging for her not to die at Wiesshaupt and the years and years of wanting, collapsed onto a single point—her lips were soft.

Smells like Vanilla and Jasmine. Too. Much. Intoxicating.

Lucanis always dreamt that their first kiss would be under the stars. There was an open garden a few blocks from the tea shop, before Hightown became Lowtown. He imagined he would take Dolores there with a basket of bread, cheese and a bottle of fine Trevisan red. They would sit by the fountains and he would listen to Dolores tell stories about her day as she always did when they met but there would be no leads to ask this time, no targets to name and no contracts. When stars dotted the sky and the bottle of red was half full, Lucanis would take her hand and ask her.

He did not imagine their first kiss would be in a dimly lit kitchen with warm soapy water dripping from their arms. She tasted sweet from the churros and tsokolate.

Hey all!! Have been wanting to make a Cebuano vocabulary list for a while now, I'm waiting to be able to get "Bisdak: learn to speak Cebuano overnight" by KD Sofia Sigil but in the meantime my boyfriend is a native speaker and helped me make this short little list! There's no theme to it, because many words I ask him he says they just use English (such as strawberry).

Cebuano, or Bisayâ/Binisayâ (Visayan in English) in the language, is spoken in the south of the Philippines, in Visayas (such as Cebu, of which Cebuano is named after and home to standard Cebuano) and in Mindanao. It's the lingua franca in many of these areas, and English is weaved throughout the language, making it a bit difficult to learn, as pure Visayan often sounds archaic, such as the Lord's Prayer:

"Amahán namò nga anaa sa mga langit, pagdaygon ang imong ngalan, umabót kanamò ang imong gingharian, matuman ang imong pagbuót, dinhí sa yutà maingón sa langit. Ang kalan-on namò sa matag adlaw, ihatag kanamò karóng adlawa.

Ug pasayloa kamí sa among mga salâ, ingón nga nagapasaylo kamí sa mga nakasalâ kanamò. Ug dilì mo kamí itugyan sa panuláy, hinunua luwasá kamí sa daután. Amen."

It is apart of the Bisayan language group (of the wider central Philippine group), and is by far the most widely spoken out of the Bisayan languages, spoken by about 20 million people. Other major languages within this group are Hiligaynon (7.8 million people) and Waray (3.6 million people). Many speakers of Cebuano prefer the term Bisayâ or Binisayâ, or Visayan in English (not to be confused with the broader Bisayan group) as they trace their ancestry to speakers of their native area, not settlers from Cebu. Even within the Visayan language, there are distinct dialects, such as the Bohol dialect on the island of Bohol.

Para sa inyong mga ate at kuya na ipinanganak noong 2000s, ang aming kabataan noon ay naging puno ng saya dahil sa mga pagkain, laruan, TV show, at iba’t ibang larong kalye! Hindi naging hadlang sa amin ang init ng tirik ng araw sa pagbubuo ng matitibay na samahan at pagkakaroon ng mga araw ng kulitan. Sa aming huling taon sa UPIS, umaasa kaming makapagbibigay ng aliw at inspirasyon ang aming pagbabalik-tanaw upang muling maramdaman ng aming mga kapwa estudyante ang kasiyahan ng simpleng pagkabata. Tara at balikan natin ang nakaraan at alamin kung ano-ano nga ba ang nagustuhan namin noong kami ay bata pa! 

Nagugutom ba kayo? 

Noong 2000s, tuwing naghahanap kami ng meryenda, dali-dali kaming tumutungo sa mga tigpipiso’t tigdodos na panindang naka-display sa mga sari-sari store noon! Pinagpipilian namin ang makukulay at matatamis na kendi at tsokolate—pampatamis sa aming araw, pampaginhawa ng pakiramdam, o simpleng pampasaya sa gitna ng pagod. Yaw i Tuguegarao: The Heart of Cagayan's Culture and Traditions

Growing up in Tuguegarao City, I’ve always felt a deep sense of pride for our home, not just because of the hot weather (yes, we all know how famous it is!), but because of the rich culture and warm traditions that make us who we are as Tuguegaraoeño. There’s something special about this place, and it’s not just in the heat, it’s in the people, the customs, and the shared sense of community.

Our Traditions Make Us Unique

Tuguegarao is not just a place you pass through; it’s a place where tradition lives and breathes. Every August, we celebrate the Pavvurulun Afi Festival, a time when the whole city comes together. Rooted in the traditions of the Ibanag people, the festival’s name translates to “burning fire,” with Pavvurulun meaning “unity” and Afi meaning “fire.”

The music, street dancing, and food stalls bring so much life to our streets. It’s more than just fun, it’s a way of showing love for our city and honoring our roots.

I actually joined the street dancing, also known as TugSayaw, back in my elementary and high school days. It was a great experience to take part in the celebration of the feast of our patron saint, Saint Hyacinth.

Family, Food, and Faith

What I love most is how Tuguegaraoeños deeply value family, food, and faith. You can’t visit a home without being offered something to eat or drink, usually sokolati or tsokolate, a traditional hot chocolate made from tablea: discs of pure cacao that are fermented, roasted, ground, and molded into tablets. It’s often served with the famous bibingka from Triple M, which is owned by my grandmother’s sister. It’s located right beside our house here in Libag Norte.

Another must-try food in Tuguegarao is pancit batil patung, a beloved noodle dish that’s more than just comfort food, it’s a cultural icon of the Ibanag people. Batil means “beaten egg,” referring to the egg-drop soup served on the side, and patung means “toppings,” because the noodles are generously loaded with them.

We also take time to attend Mass, say our prayers, and reflect on our blessings in historic churches like the St. Peter Metropolitan Cathedral Parish. This 18th-century cathedral is one of the largest in the Cagayan Valley region and serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tuguegarao.

Its origins trace back to 1604, when Dominican friars established a mission in Tuguegarao and built the first structure of the church. Years later, construction of the current cathedral began and was eventually completed in 1768. Over the centuries, the cathedral has stood witness to many significant events and has undergone several restorations, especially after sustaining damage during World War II.

The Meaning of “Yaw i Tuguegarao”

“Yaw i Tuguegarao” means “This is Tuguegarao”, and to me, it’s more than just words. It’s a proud reminder that our city is full of history, heart, and homegrown warmth. We may be known for the heat, but I believe it’s the people, culture and traditions that truly make Tuguegarao shine.

No matter where life takes me, I’ll always carry the spirit of Tuguegarao with me. It’s in the way we smile at strangers, help our neighbors, and honor the ways of the past while moving forward.
