The Power of Social Media

The 21st century today is more or less based online and that is something nobody can deny. The amount of time we spend with people in real life is heaps less to the time we spend with them online (text etc.). We choose to build our social connections online and develop them there as well. But when it comes to actually get to know the person in real life, it can take a major turn and end up in a completely different path. Not only that, but social media takes up so much of our brain space, which has a strong potential to easily break society. Something that has been introduced only recently, is cyberbullying, which is the same as regular bullying, other than the fact that it occurs online. It’s not so easy to avoid such occurrences from happening to you, but it is definitely possible. I’m not trying to say that social media is something that we should all quit using permanently. Instead, I’m suggesting, for your very own benefit, to limit and control your time spent online, in order to preserve brain strength and general happiness and positivity in your lives. Do you see the difference between both sentences? On the contrary, social media allows us to express ourselves in ways that are typically difficult to portray in reality. The fact that we - have our very own Instagram accounts that we get to post our pictures on, update our friends on our daily lives and chat with our loved ones - is amazing because it’s like our own little world that WE are in charge of. It’s kind of surreal, in my opinion! However, as previously mentioned, you should be very careful while on social media for your own wellbeing. Also, focus on building your relationships with others in person, rather than online. You never know the fantastic opportunities you can be missing out on if you don’t communicate in person!

Spent all of yesterday with @constantine_finehouse_pianist recording my first set of piano preludes. Ooooooo that boy can play! These aren’t simple pieces but Constantine made them sound incredible and the piano he played on - a gorgeous @steinwayandsons - sounded amazing. We managed to get through four of the five in one sitting, so after another session and some editing they’ll be ready to go. Had a busy weekend running around Boston, all culminating in spending a couple hours at @thebridgesoundandstage listening to @elabrandys absolutely crush my Solo Flute no. 1. She and I met for a quick rehearsal on Saturday and by Sunday she was running every phrase with impeccable precision and expression. It was unbelievable to witness. Now to get the recording out to competitions and will post it soon enough! Our recording engineer Alex - who also did the string quartet last year - is a wizard when it comes to editing and was an immense pleasure to work with. I implore all who need recordings in Boston to talk to the folks at The Bridge. It’s a killer space and they are awesome people.
