Note
i think the reason tyresse didn’t amputate is because it has to be done straight away to stop it from spreading and he took too long so it was too late
yeah that's what i thought too when rick ends up amputating him. but also, they already have the virus inside them, so they just needed to keep him alive so he wouldn't turn. idk maybe i'm not understanding the virus properly

Wild Cats (part V)
Tumblr media
V. The need
MASTERLIST
Summary: Even though you just escaped death, you couldn’t count yourselves as saved yet
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Zombie apocalypse AU, living dead, zombies, guts, blood, guns, injures, cannibalism, reader eats a squirrel (after they cooked it of course), you know what this is about.
+18, MINORS DNI
Notes: Carol gets in the mean machine a bit
Tumblr media
You guarded them, Rick, Carl, Michonne, Tyrell, Carol, Maggie, Glenn, Sasha, Bob, Tyresse and Daryl, you kept watch as you heard them make a list of everyone that was in the prison, and everyone that was accounted for, or you guessed, didn’t make it and they saw it go down
Apparently, as Carl had told you, they had been living in a prison for half a year, it was the perfect place against the new world, you’d think, as you could easily protect it, but some psycho tried to take it over with a tank, attacking the prison, destroying it in the process, and vanishing Rick’s community from there. At some point there were like forty people living in it, and in front of you is what was left.
A haunting thought
They were seeing if there was any chance someone else might still be out there, and they got to the conclusion there wasn’t, well, except for… Beth
She was Maggie’s younger sister and she was taken, when she was Daryl before you met him, before the thing with the claimers.
“New here too, right?”, asked Tara, you smiled and nodded, “I just met Rick, MIchonne and Carl a couple of days ago, after they escaped the prison, how about you?”, you asked her
“I was part of the group that took the prison”, she said with a horrid expression on her face.
“Oh”, you didn’t know what to say
“Our leader lied to us, made us do it”, she said shortly. One thing you’d learn in the apocalypse, is that is was like it was in prison, you heard very few stories, and shorter ones, nobody liked to talk about “before”
You also had a good story to tell, but… alas… nobody asked you either.
“We should get going”, said Rick
“Where are we going?”, you asked softly. He looked back at you, he didn’t have a plan, neither of you did.
“For now we keep walking until we can find someone to lay low, regroup, replenish our strength”, he said, and you nodded, that sounded like a great plan, you only hoped this place existed.
You noticed something else too, Daryl was always hanging back, measuring, watching, his crossbow always ready to release. He often walked away from the group in thought, just to come back a few hours later while you walked.
The night came quicker than you expected and to your surprise, Daryl came in with dead squirrels for dinner.
You had never eaten squirrels before.
It was… tasty, tasted like chicken. After he set a fire and cooked them himself. You always felt his eyes on you, when you looked back he seemed to be analyzing you, testing you, as you tried the squirrel and then ate it.
“Good enough for ya’?”, he asked as he munched on his
“it’s great”, you said, of course at first you were not convinced.
You couldn’t hunt for shit, and in that period when you were alone you saw some gray days, but you always managed. You had eaten so many expired canned things you were pleasantly surprised that you haven't gotten poisoned yet.
You took turns to sleep, there were fifteen of you, so you took turns. You realized that in the -adult- close circle, those being Michone, Rick, Carol, Daryl, Maggie and Glenn divided themselves into the five groups to take guards, they didn’t trust you, or the trio, or Tara more, but you understood it.
You were just almost eaten by humans who promised you sanctuary
Daryl kept watch with you like at three AM, and also Abraham, who wouldn’t let Eugene do anything of substance.
“What did you both do before all of this?”, he asked, which wasn’t fair, it was clear what he did. You looked at Daryl who didn’t answer
“Does it really matter?”, you asked
“Hell yeah”
“What I can tell you is that I didn’t do anything special”, you said simply, “nothing that could have helped me survive this anyways”, you said quietly, but you still felt both gazes on to you, “I’m a designer mayor”, you concluded, “just finished my masters when the crap hit the fan”
“You don’t sound like you’re from around here”, he said
“I’m not”, you said, but you were not willing to answer anymore and he seemed to understand it.
“And what about you?”, he asked Daryl in turn, you looked back at him expectantly, but he only mumbled something under his breath
“It doesn’t matter now, does it?”, you asked, “we are all different people now, and it’s not like we need CV’s”, you said softly.
“We are going to fix this”, he said, all convinced
“That’s just bullshit man”, muttered Daryl. You didn’t want to get your hopes up, you really didn’t. A scientist that could stop this? on their way to DC with these militars? that sounded so, so strange, but again, this had become a strange world
“I can use some people like you in the team”, he said, looking at you both. Daryl just shook his head
“You said you are going to DC?”, you asked, he nodded, “how do you know someone is there still?”, finding people that had a similar plan to yours was… endearing, maybe you weren’t so wrong after all.
“Well, we did lose contact a few weeks back, but there were still people there”, he said, “the last ones standing”. Someone created this virus, you were sure of it, and as easier someone could change this back, this was a virus, you really did hope there was a way back.
Although things were irreparable now. But at least, people didn’t have to keep coming back to life as flesh-eating monsters, and furthermore, people didn’t have to keep being eaten.
“You too”, encouraged Abraham, you raised your eyes from the fire to look at him
“Why me?”, you asked him
“I saw you wielding that ax”, he said nodding proudly, you weren’t better with an ax that Daryl was with a bow, “you both should be there when we save the world”, Daryl only chuckled, mockingly, and then stood up to go for a walk around the camp. You both joined him, because you didn’t want to have another “claimers” situation, one where the group sneaked past your round, so you went in all different directions.
“You’re with me”, muttered Daryl, you just walked towards him silently, and submerged yourself into the woods.
The moon helped you, also, the sky was clear so you could see once you adjusted your eyesight. You watched where you were going, last time you tripped he snapped at you, when you were slow he also snapped at you.
You got it, he was this tough, tracker, hunter guy, but still, he seemed to be always looming over you, watching your every move
You didn’t care, something made you want to please him, to prove yourself worthy to him, you didn’t know what it was.
You are focused so much in your “quickness” and being fast that you didn’t watched much when you were going, especially since it was pitch black, you tripped and fell on your face, and you would have been embarrassed, if it wasn’t because you didn’t trip because of a branch or something, something grabbed you.
You heard the growls and you knew you were fucked, truly fucked
“Ah!”, you screamed when you kicked and hit the walker in its face, you turned around and you could barely see the silhouette. You grabbed your ax but you were so afraid to hit yourself, it lodged in what it seemed to be it’s shoulder
You saw and heard its mouth snapping open, he was going to get you, his boney body over your other leg, not allowing you to kick him
And then, an arrow lodged itself in the middle of its forehead, stopping his movements at once.
“It’s a wonder you haven’t been killed ye”, he mumbled, coming to you, grabbing the arrow from its head, and grabbing you, getting you on your feet, “did he get ya?”, you grabbed onto him, shaking your head
“Thank you”, you said, trying to hold on into his thick arm, as you took foot on solid ground
“Be more careful will ya?”, he asked and walked away from you, releasing his hold on you.
“Sorry”, you said, catching up to him, “thank you I thought it was gonna get me”, you were shaken up, you felt your heart thundering. He didn’t say anything as he kept walking forwards, you walked stuck to his side, creeped out of your mind. Soon your round was over and you came back to the bonfire.
You didn’t understand why Daryl was so angry at you all the time. And furthermore you didn’t understand why he was hovering over you, as he sat right by your side, and slept right by you too. He wouldn’t stop checking where you were or what you were doing, you didn’t understand at all. You stole a glance at him and saw him staring into the fire. He had some beautiful eyes… the bastard, and underneath all that wild hair… he was sort of handsome, in a… special, wild way.
He caught you staring so you looked away quickly, and soon, you woke the others up and it was your time to rest.
. . .
The next night found you in the church of the priest you saved from three walkers. He gave you the creeps. You believed yourself to be a good judge of character and you did not like him at all, but you needed sanctuary, food, water and a plan, so you should be fine there for a couple of weeks. If Rick trusted him, so could you, besides, there was fifteen of you, and one of him.
There you had more time to get acquainted with the rest of the group. You’d learn that baby Judith was a badass, and super quiet for a baby. She was such a cute little baby.
You’d learned so many things from the rest of the group, how Tyresse was certainly the most intimidating-looking but a gentle giant, Bob was… odd. Carol was very reserved and if Daryl gave you judging looks he’s got nothing on her. She barely even talked to you.
Eugene was a bit of a weirdo, he was, he tried to “came onto you” multiple times and you’d reject his lewd advances quickly, and Abraham and Rosita would laugh at him. It was sort of comical, he was lacking very esencial social skills. But Abraham, Eugene and a couple of more were hellbent on fixing a broken church bus to get them to DC, and the rest of you were just trying to get supplies to keep going, or figure out what to do next.
You were not impressed by the town or its surroundings, but you were asked by Rick to stay near the church with Carl, baby Judith and the others, and you did, happily.
As you had a time for yourself, you sat in one of the church’s benches and peeked at a map you had of Georgia and the surrounding states, of the plan you had made when you got out of Atlanta, of the island…
Rick sat by your side and peeked, you looked at him, he had baby Judith in his arms
“This would have come handy before”, he chided gently
“I forgot I had it, I thought it was in my backpack, but it was in one of the zippers in my jacket”, you explained softly, there was some scribbles in it, Rick read them
“What was this?”, he pointed at your “plan V”
“Plan Vacation Village”, you said, he chuckled, “it’s an island on Lake Lanier”, you said softly, he looked at you wide-eyed, “I thought to go seek refuge there, an island right? easy to protect”
“What happened?”, he asked
“Never found out”, you said sadly, “never got to”, he looked at you funny
“This could work”, he said, “we should be close enough”
“I’m sure I’m not the only one who came to the same conclusion”, you said surely, “that islands were the safest way… it could backfire, there could be walkers trapped in there…besides, it’s big, very…”
“Maybe…”, he said. He looked ahead, at the group getting ready for dinner, “why won’t you go find Daryl and Carol? we can discuss this at dinner”, he said softly, you nodded. He treated you like you were a little girl sometimes, but… Carol and Daryl were in the watch team, they preferred it so. You walked outside and realized it was already night, pitch dark, you were going to tell Rick to fetch them yourself, you didn’t want to go at night, but there it was again, the need to prove yourself, so you went out there anyways.
You seemed to catch a glimpse of Daryl out there, so, you followed him, you didn’t want to call out for him, so you tried to move quickly. you ended up a few yards away from the church when you catched him, he was with Carol.
“... you seemed pretty cozy with her last night… the new girl”, said Carol teasingly
“She is just another dead girl”
“Rick wants us for dinner”, you said, they both froze and looked back at you, and you cursed yourself because your voice broke in the last second
They looked back at you wide-eyed
“I walk pretty stealthy for a dead girl”, you said bitterly
They were going to answer, but the three of you almost ducked when you heard an engine, a car, it passed right by you, it was black, Daryl went out of his way to catch a glimpse of it, and when he did, he was quick to grab the bow and smashed the back lights of the car they were preparing
“What are you doing!?”, asked Carol
“That’s the car that took Beth!”, he said quickly, “get in! Both of you!”, he said, and wouldn’t take no for an answer
“What?”, you asked, but they both jumped in, and rather than being out here alone, with a sigh, you jumped into the car too.
Damn you and your need to prove yourself.

We talk a lot about Rick saying he knew he was in love with his son's best friend, but we need to discuss Michonne's love for, and loyalty to this man since they met. He's always been the one for her.
oh for sure, she chose him from the beginning even if she wasn't fully aware of doing so. btw, if you haven't seen it already, i would recommend this post by @glamaphonic (which is basically required reading in my opinion) for the full trajectory of michonne's feelings for rick.
while I don't necessarily think she was in love with him since day one, you're absolutely right in that it was building from the moment they met. these are the things that stick out to me but let's be real it's not a comprehensive list because she loves him so much. she loves him so so much!
the way she pretty much instantly decided the prison was safe and that she wanted to stay there because of rick. not just by understanding why he was mistrustful of her, but by seeing how he had built a legitimate family from the way he reunited with carol and thanked daryl for taking care of judith. it took her five minutes to clock him as a legitimate leader and has supported him ever since. so much so that in 7x12 she tells him, completely honestly, that he should lead all of the communities. she genuinely admires him, and thinks there is no one better or more capable than him (of course, that's not true: she is lol i'm always so ticked by how surprised she is when he asks her to lead with him in 7x12).
when she sees rick having hallucinations, instead of treating him like a wild animal that you should only approach slowly and carefully (like everyone else did) she sees herself in him and goes out of her way to make him feel better. if anything it actually makes her trust and understand him more. and she gets him to crack a joke and smile!
the fact that not only was she not angry, but told him she completely understood that he had to consider giving her up to the governor, who she *knows* is a psychopath. that SHE of all people was the one to empathize with him for having to make that choice? that is truly bonkers when you think about it. a level of loyalty and understanding and care that makes very little sense considering how they still barely knew each other then. but it ~*~must have been something else then~*~
the way she bursts into tears of joy and looks to the sky in thanks after finding carl and rick after the prison. you know she would have been glad to find anyone when she started following that trail but you could tell that those two are who she wanted to find more than anyone else. and the fact that doing so seemed to restore her faith? shut up???
after she finds rick and carl she asks him "is this home? or just a stop along the way?" she was willing to stay put and build a home with just him and carl without bothering to look for anyone else. as @glamaphonic said, she claims them right then and there. (btw i noticed that a similar conversation happened with carol and tyresse in The Grove, and also with sasha and abraham in...some later episode idk which one, but they're in an office building. i just thought it was interesting! i wonder if the carol/tyreese instance was a nod to the comics?)
rick thinks that killing a man with his throat is the worst thing he's ever done. certainly carl saw it as monstrous (as it made him think he was a monster too, for being too similar to rick) even daryl backed away from it. only michonne saw it for the heroic act it was and it made her fall in love with him. and she made him feel better too. again, she sees a kindred spirit in him as someone willing to do anything, including things most people would not do, to protect his child.
she is always ready to back him up and fight with him, as well as for him. the only time she disagrees with him is when she knows there is a better option for them, and even then she's gentle and supportive while she convinces him there's a better way (directing the group to alexandria, "i'm still with you", the fight against n*gan, the end of towl 1x04, probably more that i'm forgetting). she considers him her equal in every way, and considering how self-reliant michonne is, that says everything.
okay but seriously the EASIEST way to piss michonne off is to talk shit about rick, talk shit to rick, put your hands on rick, or even just look at rick in a way she doesn't like. she just starts yelling and/ swinging, which is hilarious because she's normally so collected.
on the other hand the only thing that makes michonne lose her shit completely and genuinely panic is if rick is legitimately in danger (the end of 6x09, the bridge)
if she thinks he's dead, she straight up just. stops. mid battle. just drops her weapon and stops. i'm almost glad we never got flashbacks to the time immediately after the bridge because it might have been too devastating to watch.
she never rejects him. even when they're at odds, she's still goes out of her way to show him she still supports him (5x16, their kiss in 7x08).
rick straight up would not have survived losing carl if he hadn't had michonne. she is so loving and patient and gentle with him even through her own grief it's incredible. she loves him SO much (and i have to point out, rick is the same for her. as devastating as carl's death is, watching them work through it together was beautiful).
she is always trying to ease his burden and be a legitimate partner to him. there are countless examples of this but the big one for me is how she considers n*gan her responsibility after season 8. rick made the call but she backed him and kept backing him even though everyone was against them, even when they both had doubts. she completely meant it when she said she wanted for them to make all of their decisions together and for once he's not completely alone as a leader.
speaking of the n*gan thing. michonne stands in maggie's way until maggie asks her what she would have done if it had been rick who had been butchered in front of her, if she could have just let that go. definitely, the answer was no. just like rick couldn't have if it had been michonne.
(because she can't live without him anymore than he can live without her).
she was flipping over dead walkers for months after the bridge and did not move on for over 6 years because she could *feel* he was still alive despite all evidence to the contrary and also simply because there was no one else she wanted. it's him or no one. just as it's her or no one for him. you can actually see her flinch a little toward the end of her kiss with ezekiel.
wearing his clothes and wrapping them around herself like a hug when she really really missed him
talking to him long after he was gone
setting off to find him on foot over nothing more than a hint that he was alive
all of the ones who live. like, that would honestly need its own post but do we even need it? that show dialed this love story up to like a twenty. she spent an entire episode saving him from himself. almost died trying to find him in the first place. jumped his ass out of a helicopter. her faith in him and them saves the entire world.
truly, her response to his proposal/vows is spot on: "it could only ever have been you." it was always him, it was only ever going to be him. it's him, or it's no one.

time travel fix it au's are done to death in this fandom but also they're my favourite thing in the world so au where the entire show happens as is and it's heartbreaking and inspiring etc but then. restart button. waking back up at the start of the end except only the people that lived remember
wanna think about what would happen when daryl and carol wake up at camp, remembering everything that happened; carol stronger, knowing in her gut that everything that she remembers is real, and daryl fucking terrified, because if everything in his head actually happened, then what the fuck is this
wanna think about a rick dragging a hostile merle and a wide-eyed glenn back to camp, memories completely intact, and running to reunite with his family. not letting daryl go and hugging carol so so so tight, collapsing to the ground with carl in his arms
wanna think about them dragging the atlanta group to the farm, maggie leaving the front porch light on for them, and everyone reuniting. rick seeing hershel again, daryl seeing beth, carol pulling sophia close, and maggie being unable to even breath, looking at glenn
wanna think about them tossing up whether to even go to the prison, but they met important people there, and alexandria's a long way, and if they're gonna survive this time–if they're gonna live–they're gonna do it right
so they go to the prison so they can figure out their next step, and michonne's there and waiting, andre on her hip, and they deal with the governor before the governor deals with them, and sasha and tyresse finally show up, they find the prisoners, and then one day they get a knock on the front gate, and it's negan
negan showing up, no baseball bat in hand but his leather jacket still in place, a sick but alive lucille by his side, laura and doctor franklin behind him, and all he's got to say is at the end of the world, i know which side i wanna be on
the fallout of that, of maggie being against it, of rick never having gotten to see negan at the end, not knowing the choices he made, the good and the bad. daryl and carol looking at glenn, seeing him alive and in love and having no memory of his last moments, and never wanting anything to ruin that, but negan saved judiths life, helped save all their lives. he chose, in the end, and now it's their turn
wanna think about a future where beth doesn't die, but they go on a rescue mission to get noah anyway. a future where tara turns up with her niece, led by eugene with abraham and rosita following right behind him
wanna think about how they'd handle terminus, how they'd handle the claimers. wanna think about them trying to find father gabriel, except gabe made it the first time around, and he wasn't wasting his second chance. he saved his flock, and he led them to alexandria, and he's waiting
wanna think of connie's group searching for hilltop. not finding maggie, or alden, but finding jesus. wanna think about lydia, being a fucking child, and watching her mother kill her dad, and remembering aaron telling her how loved she was
wanna think of the growing pains of them being able to save so many more family members this time, but god, a larger group is harder to keep alive
daryl trying to run interference with merle and everyone else, getting the jack of it one day and telling him he's already mourned him once, and he won't again. if merle wants to stay–to live–then it's up to him. daryl's not gonna babysit him anymore
rick trying to find his footing between lori and shane and judith, with carl, with michonne and andre. michonne looking at a weak but alive lori grimes holding a screaming and crying newborn in her arms, and knowing that she's never gonna be her daughter the way she was before, but knowing she'll always be something to her
carol struggling to be the mother sophia needs her to be, emotions too sharp and constantly fucking terrified. doesn't know how to hold onto someone like that anymore, either gripping too tight or not at all
maggie trying to exist in a world where she has everyone she's ever loved back, so close and so fucking dear, except it cost her her son. not knowing if she'll ever get him back at all. doesn't know how to live with the grief of losing someone she never technically had in this world
they make it to alexandria and it's aaron opening the gate for them, waiting to welcome them home

Word count: 1215
With her head leaned against the metal of a train car, a million thoughts engulfing her, Y/N began planning the deaths of those at Terminus.
She wasn’t one to lose her temper, that was something Daryl was known for. But, right now Y/N wasn’t going to control herself. She had foolishly walked into Terminus with the hopes of finding what these people promised. Instead she found helions who ate people. It was their fault she was locked up, unable to find Daryl.
Y/N shook her head, her teeth grit together in a painful way. She would get out of here and stick a knife in every one of those sickos heads. And only then would she continue to find Daryl.
It had taken too long for her to admit her feelings for Daryl and now she was paying for it. Y/N had spoken to Daryl about her feelings a day after they had brought in the people from Woodbury. Their relationship was awkward and weird at first, as neither of them had even pursued a romantic relationship before, but it soon turned into something Y/N and Daryl wanted to cherish forever.
Still, if Y/N had told Daryl what she wanted their relationship to be like then they could’ve had longer than six months together.
Y/N jumped. The train car seemed to shake beneath her and she heard an explosion go off. Y/N wasted no time looking out the cracks in the train car only to be met with the sight of a herd of walkers entering Terminus.
Y/N smiled and began to figure out how she could get herself out of this damn train car.
Across from Y/N, unbeknownst to her, was Daryl. He and their people were fighting their way out of Terminus, clueless as to how close they were to Y/N.
Daryl especially had felt hopeless when Y/N wasn’t in the train car with Glenn and Maggie. He had hoped she made her way out of the prison with the others. He held hope that she was out there, on her way to Paris where they had joked about going together if they ever had the chance.
Now, that seemed hopeless.
With that thought in mind, Daryl climbed over the Terminus fence and followed the others. They didn’t go far before Rick bent down and began looking for the duffel bag they had hidden before going into Terminus.
Daryl wanted nothing more than to end the lives of Gareth and his people. He needed to release his anger and sadness and now was the perfect opportunity. He wanted to yell at everyone around him who just wanted to run away, who didn’t understand just how much Y/N being gone was affecting him.
Daryl turned his head toward the direction of leaves crunching. He froze when he saw Carol. Her face was covered in mud and her clothes had walker guts on it, but Daryl didn’t care. He ran for her, pulling her into a tight hug as tears ran down his face.
She took the group to a cabin on the outskirts of Terminus where Tyresse and Judith were staying. Daryl watched, shifting on his feet as everyone spoke to one another, getting ready to leave somewhere safer.
“Hey,” Carol walked up to him, a smile on her face. She was holding something in her hand, away from Daryl’s sight. “I was hoping she was here with you all.” Carol didn’t have to say Y/N’s name in order for Daryl to know who she was talking about. Carol suddenly turned serious, her eyes showing grief. “I found this in their storage room,”
Daryl took the simple necklace from her. It was a gold chain with a green stone hanging from it.
His heart shattered in two. That was Y/N’s necklace. The very same one he had given her that she never took off under any circumstance.
Daryl couldn’t breathe or think as he clenched the jewelry in his hand. Y/N was gone.
Carol pulled the redneck into a tight hug, wishing she could comfort him.
However, on the other side of the woods, Y/N was alive and finally outside of the Terminus walls. She was covered in more blood than ever, having taken her time to search the inner parts of Terminus and kill anyone she found.
She wanted to sleep for a million years.
She walked on the train tracks and toward the prison. Her eyes spotted someone up ahead of her. He held a stick in his hands and was busy reading a sign to notice her.
Y/N gripped the knife she had stolen back at Terminus and went through the woods, making sure she had enough cover to get past him. She really wasn’t up to fight today.
“I know you’re there.” the man said. Y/N froze in her spot, her mouth dry. It was quiet for a minute until he spoke again. “My name’s Morgan. I mean no harm, I was on my way to Terminus but it seems it’s no longer around… is that where you’re coming from?”
Y/N clenched her jaw. It took a few minutes but, finally, she answered. “Yeah, wasn't the best place anyway.”
Morgan laughed. “Do you care to come out or should I leave you be?” Y/N rolled her eyes, letting her silence speak for itself. Morgan continued, “You see, I’m looking for a friend. He was headed towards here, and I think he wrote on this sign… Maybe you saw him on your way out.”
Before she could stop herself from speaking, Y/N hissed, “The only people I saw ended up dead or worse off.”
There was an awkward silence and Y/N heard Morgan shift his weight. She shook her head and continued on her path.
“Well maybe we can help each other!” Morgan yelled after her. She was now on the tracks and visible.
Y/N clenched her jaw. She was missing the necklace Daryl had given her and now had nothing to remind her of him. Maybe this man could help her find Daryl, maybe being with someone else, at least for a little while would be worth it.
“I’ll find you,” Y/N promised through gritted teeth. She didn’t want to be with someone else she didn’t trust after Terminus, but the odds of surviving with someone else were much higher than if she was alone.
Y/N turned around. “I’m looking for someone too.”
Morgan smiled. “Well then we’ll stick together and look for our people. Help each other. Does that sound good?”
Y/N nodded slowly and walked closer to the stranger. She wouldn’t tell him about Daryl yet or use his offered help until she knew him more. There wasn’t a big chance Daryl was alive after what went down at the prison and if Y/N spoke about him she worried her resolve for finding him would die away. Hope was a tricky thing to hold onto nowadays and her grip was already slipping.
“Lets you find your friend,” Y/N muttered before following Morgan into the woods toward where he thought his friend was, too lost in her thoughts to notice.

The Silence of it
MASTERLIST
Chapter 14
Summary
Y/N has been with the group since the start of the apocalypse yet can’t help but feel like she doesn’t fit in anywhere. When they arrive at Alexandria, she should feel relieved. Instead she’s left feeling confused and stuck in her head. A certain someone helps her out of it.
Tumblr media
You were growing restless. News from back home in Alexandria was running dry and you were almost starting to regret staying behind. It was breaking you heart and keeping you awake at night, more than usual, to be so far away from your family.
Normally, having Daryl’s company would be all you needed to keep calm and steady, but considering he hadn’t been talking to you as of lately, you just felt more and more unnerved.
You’d spent some time with the King and Jerry, trained with soldiers on their breaks, and even started to help with the crops and harvesting if you were asked. But you still couldn’t stop worrying.
“Y/N.” A voice was pulling you out of your thoughts and you squinted up past the bright sun, hands dirty from the soil you were digging through. You eventually made out Morgan as he approached you. “Do you know where Daryl is?”
You sighed and wiped the sweat off your brow line, not minding the dirt you smeared across your forehead. You shrugged and put your hands on your hips. “No, I never seem to lately.”
Morgan was watching you curiously but eventually nodded, giving you a soft wave as he walked away from you.
You were frustrated again, patience for Daryl being run thin. Quickly excusing yourself to the nice woman who’d asked for your help weeding, you jogged over to one of the King’s men, the first you’d met.
“Richard.” You came to a stop next to him and he glanced at you briefly, not paying you much mind. “Do you have any idea where Daryl is?”
He looked at you now, seemingly interested in you and your situation. He must’ve just realized you were someone from Alexandria, somebody the King had let stay.
“Yeah actually.” He smiled down at you and you missed the glint in his eye. “We’re scheduled for a run here about now, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind the company.”
You were regretting coming along now, regretting leaving the walls with a near stranger and regretting letting your frustrations cloud your judgement.
Richard had practically left you in the middle of nowhere, slipping off while you cleared a few walkers on your way to where Daryl apparently was, something you now realized was untrue.
You’d obviously been lied to but the only thing you didn’t understand was why. What was the play here, if there was one. You felt you’d grow close enough to Ezekiel to understand he wouldn’t do this to anyone, especially a non-allied community.
Wandering now, you were once again feeling mad at yourself for losing focus. You didn’t keep track of where you were heading and you had no clue how to get back to the unfamiliar community.
The air was prickling against your skin and you were exhausted and angry, angry at Daryl and angry at yourself.
You liked to think you understood him, you knew what made him tick and what was happening under the surface and under his facade of cool headedness. You’ve spent the entirety of this new life together and you’d die before he did.
Yet, somehow, you didn’t see him pulling away from you like this, this time. You thought it was different and it was special and it was the start of acceptance towards something you both hadn’t had before.
Suddenly a wave of missing your family washed over you. You weren’t the type to go to them for advice, or anybody for that matter but things weren’t feeling easier.
You missed Glenn and Abraham like it was yesterday, you thought about Beth everytime somebody hummed a song and you still looked for Tyresse in a crowd.
It wasn’t getting any easier and you weren’t sure it ever would.
Your thoughts were exhausting you and you nearly let out a cry of relief when you spotted a small house off in the distance, almost hidden in the trees. You could find your way back to the Kingdom tomorrow, you just wanted to rest for now.
You crouched low and sped up to the house, knives drawn and angled. After sitting and listening for a few breaths, you deemed it empty and stood near the door, angling your shoulder and ramming it into the wooden door.
You flew into the house, still on guard, but paused and dropped your position when you looked around the small room. “Oh holy shit.”
DARYL POV
“The Saviors who discover what’s left, we want them to be angry.” Richard was explaining his plan to attack a small group of Saviors to Daryl.
They were somewhere out, not too far from the Kingdom, but far enough that Negan’s men wouldn’t immediately go towards that direction. Daryl was skeptical of Richard but the want to finally do something about this was burying that.
“I left a trail from here to the weapons cache I planted, to the cabin of someone Ezekiel cares about, and I arranged it so the stakes are even higher than just one.”
“Who’s that?” Daryl felt more guarded now, the idea of hurting somebody innocent not sitting well with him.
“It’s just some loner he met.” Richard dismissed. “And the girl he’s been spending time with.”
This comment missed Daryl, he took a step outwards towards Richard.
“Why don’t they live in the Kingdom?”
“She lives out there, she’ll die out there.”
Daryl was frozen completely now, piecing together one of the people being referred to. He felt his heart racing in his throat and squared his shoulders. “It’s a woman?”
“It’s two. What’s it matter? The new one has more balls than you and me. That’s why she’s there, it needs to be believable that they did this.” Richard continued to speak but Daryl’s head was spinning now, a ringing in his ear as anger and panicked built up.
“What’s her name?” His voice was a low growl, the threat of his anger building up as Richard started to ramble past his question.
“Maybe they kill them, maybe they don’t, but it’s gonna show Ezekiel what he needs to do.”
“The name. What is it?” Daryl ignored him again, pressing further. He was watching the man with a dark far away look in his eye.
“The one’s tough, maybe she’ll live.”
“Say her damn name.” Daryl was yelling now, his belief slowly being confirmed the more Richard tried to push forward.
He sighed softly and turned away from Daryl. “Y/N and Carol. I was hoping you didn’t know her and I didn’t see you talk to Y/N much, so I didn’t think you’d care ‘cause you know what needs to happen.”
Daryl was fuming, stomping forward to collect his crossbow and gear and ignoring Richard’s pleas for understanding. He felt dizzy at the thought of you and Carol sat waiting in a death trap, his stomach turning with rage thinking about how you even ended up outside the walls.
“You stay the hell away from them, you hear me?” Daryl was spinning back to face him
The sound of trucks and gravel kicking up stole their attention, peering around the truck to see the Saviors approaching in the distance. Daryl felt almost animalistic, the thought of you at the end of this plan turning his stomach.
“Look, we can wait for things to go bad, and lose people or we can do the hard thing and choose our fate for ourselves.” Richard was once again attempting to reason with Daryl and once he was met with disagreement again, he opted for acting alone.
Daryl swiftly ran up behind him, gripping the back of his armor and throwing the man on the floor. He held him down tightly, grunting as Richard fought back in an attempt to stand.
Daryl kept an ear out, listening and waiting for the sound of the Saviors vehicles to die down.
He was throwing punches, full body swinging as he rotated fists. Richard swung something heavy from his left and threw Daryl off of him with the force, both men scrambling for their weapons.
Richard was talking again, pleading for reason within Daryl but he felt nothing but pure murderous rage at the idea. “What we have to do requires sacrifice one way or another.”
“Guys like us… we’ve already lost so much.”
“You don’t know me.” Daryl thought of loss, how it plaques his whole life long before the apocalypse. Then he thought of you.
“She gets hurt.” Daryl started. “She dies, if she catches a fever, if she’s taken out by a walker… if she gets hit by lightning. Anything, anything happens to her, I’ll kill you.”
Carol was outside now, you curled up on her couch looking out the window. A small smile was on your face at the sight of the King, you almost went out to greet him before thinking of the questions it would cause.
She seemed agitated when she stepped back in but you felt like she was lighter on her feet, holding a cobbler in a glass pan.
You smiled over at her and shrugged, the giddiness of the Kingdom and it’s theatrics had remained amusing to you.
“You’ll need to go back soon.” She offered, sitting opposite of you and opening her book, placing it down on her lap. “Daryl will worry.”
“Don’t be too sure of that.” You mumbled, it fell from your lips in a pout and you didn’t bother remaining stoic. Carol was your oldest friend now, despite your lack of talks recently.
She shook her head at you like you weren’t making any sense. “He loves you.”
Your stomach turned and you hugged your knees closer to your chest. You didn’t reply to her verbally, shaking your head repeatedly.
She sighed and went to speak again, stopping when another knock at her door echoed through the house. After all this time the sound still was jarring and unnerving to you.
She met your eye and you felt even more worried when you realized her expression lacked any recognition or expectancy.
She stood swiftly, handing you her book. You watched her back as she swung the door open, watched her shoulders fall and the breath leave her body.
She stepped out of view, out onto the porch and you furrowed your brows. Anxiety was racking you but the lack of sound or anger just left you confused. You gripped your knives tightly and stood slowly.
When you heard the familiar gruff voice start to speak slowly, you froze in place. Their conversation was heavy and low and you felt like you weren’t meant to hear it so you sunk back against the arm of the couch.
“She in there?” You were confused as Daryl spoke, a hum of approval falling from Carol. You weren’t sure how he knew you were here. You looked around for a place to hide and then felt stupid for doing so.
This was Daryl. Although confusing and on the verge of breaking your heart, it was still just Daryl.
And when he stepped around the frame of the door, crossbow clinging tightly to his chest, you remembered again why you’d be okay with feeling this way forever.
He looked guilty and bashful but a wave of peace washed over you, calming fears you didn’t even realize were suffocating you. He had a wild look in his eye beneath the one he always had for you.
He was always going to make it feel complete.
You had hugged Carol goodbye for longer than anyone in your entire life, tears falling onto her shoulder. She was teary too but petting your head and lightly scolding you for acting like she wasn’t ever going to be back.
Walking back to the Kingdom with Daryl, you still felt that heavy sadness of leaving her. You were thankful for the dark of the night, covering your red cheeks.
It didn’t help that he wouldn’t even glance in your direction, silent and distant, all the way on the other side of the road.
If it wasn’t so dangerous, you bet he’d be walking in the fields just to be farther away from you.
“How’d you know I was here.” The words felt loud and heavy in the silence, taking up space they weren’t supposed to. But curiosity was weighing on you and the quiet was suffocating.
He didn’t answer for a long time, not sparing a glance to your side of the world. For a moment you wondered if he had been zoned out and didn’t hear you or if he was opting for pretending you didn’t exist.
Then the sound of his boots was gone and you halted a few feet infront of him, glancing back to see he had stopped walking and was watching the back of you.
You turned slowly, confused, and titled your head in his direction. He scanned down your face, your furrowed brows and tired eyes. He avoided looking below your nose.
“Richard told me a plan.” He started off slow and you watched his silhouette tense like he was recalling a nightmare. “Leading the Savior’s back to Carol and you.”
You were confused as you tried to understand what he was saying and what the Savior’s had to do with Carol. Your face dropped as you slowly understood what he meant and why you had been left out here.
“Is he alive.” You asked tentatively, watching his reaction.
He didn’t say anything again, biting his lip and glancing around the empty air.
“Yeah.” He eventually mumbled and you sucked in a breath, not sure if you were relieved or scared. “But I would’ve done it.”
You shook your head and instinctively took a step towards him, hands raised in approach. He didn’t need to hear you speak to understand what you were thinking. You didn’t want him to do that.
“I mean it. If I thought he’d do it I would’ve killed him then and there.” He sounded stressed out and angry again at the idea, agitation pouring off of him. “I’d do that for you.”
“Don’t say things like that.” You spat the words like the burned, recoiling away from him and hugging your arms to your body. “You’ve barely spoken to me. It’s too confusing Daryl.”
Now he was stepping forward, keeping his distance but making an effort to lessen the gap you were creating.
“I’d do that for you and I’d die for you Y/N.” He was pushing forward in his words and you felt yourself darken, anger and confusion finally reaching it’s limit with him.
“Then why do you do this to me.” You were almost screaming now, totally forgetting the existence of walkers or anything besides Daryl. “Don’t you see how this is what’s killing me. You’re what is hurting me Daryl.”
He was shaking his head and fumbling backwards like you shot him. When he spoke again his voice was weak and breaking around the words.
“Don’t.”
“I’m serious.” You yelled. “I’m going crazy Daryl, I don’t know why you hate me so much.”
You weren’t embarrassed when you realized you were crying. You were exhausted from trying to figure him out, longing for him day in and day out and worrying about his safety or what he was thinking about.
“I could never hate you.” He sounded panicked and you shook your head, flinching back when he took wide strides towards you.
He froze when you flinched back, hands stopping mid air around you at the reaction. You met his gaze for a second and felt yourself break at the look of hurt and shock passing through his face.
You knew he’d never hurt you, you also knew if he touched you it would be over for you.
“I..” He seemed frozen around his words, like he was having to pry them from his lips to present them to you. “I need you.”
Shaking your head again you sucked in a tight breath. It wasn’t enough for you now, his words that were constantly lacking action. You spun on your heel and started to walk again, longing to be back at the Kingdom.
You grunted softly when you felt his hands wrapping around your arm, both of them holding it tightly as you turned around. He was basically cradling your arm in an attempt to keep you there.
You felt your resolve weaken, watching him struggle to communicate how he felt. You thought about what Carol had said.
“I love you Daryl.” You breathed out and shook your head, prying your arm out from his grasp. He clenched his hands around nothing, stumbling forward towards you.
You wanted to turn again, to leave him there in silence a few paces behind you until you could go separate ways at the Kingdom, maybe you’d even go home. You wanted to let him sit with this fact and to understand how much you needed him.
Instead you held his face in your hands and watched him with soft but exhausted eyes. He leaned into your touch like a wounded dog and nearly whimpered at the contact.
You wanted him to hear you and to feel what you were saying. You hoped he’d have no doubt about the way you felt and start to feel like he could deserve something like this, atleast enough to fight for it.
“I love you.” You repeated, voice firmer this time. “And I’ll wait for you forever, longer than I already have, but I need you to remember how small that could be.”
Maggie and Glenn passed through your mind, just at the start of their family. And then Sasha and Abraham, only just being brave enough to try together when it was already over.
“Fuck forever.” His voice was snapping you out of your thoughts and you felt his rough hand cup yours that was still over his cheek. “I’m here now, you’ve got me.”
“For how long.” You felt like yelling again, stepping back from him and lowering your hands so they were rested on his chest. “Until you’re scared and run away again?”
He nearly sneered at you instinctively, the words hitting a sore spot for him. “Ain’t scared.”
“Then what is it Daryl.”
“Don’t you get it?” He was sneering at you now, taking a few steps away from you and you felt a flash of familiarity at the curl of his lip. Daryl was closing off again, a ghost of the angry man he’d been before.
“I do get it.” You lowered your voice, it coming out soft and reassuring. “I get it and you know I do, but I can’t do it anymore.”
And you did get it. You knew why Daryl was scared, why he couldn’t say the words that would put you at ease. But you were sick of losing people with regrets.
“So that’s it? You’re leaving?” He said hurt and confused, pacing slightly like a cornered animal. You shook your head and sucked in a rough breath.
“Find me when you’re ready.”

hello. i’m the nonny who sent you the interview with kirkman where he talks about tys hallucinations. i’ve recently been rewatching twd and just finished 5x09. i just wanted to point out a couple things and give a quick analysis.
the constant use of the line ‘it went the way it had to, the way it was always going to go’ is very telling i think. it says that what happened to beth was inevitable, and it HAD to go that way. in that’s in favour of the storyline, and what beth will become. if she stayed with the group, she might of stayed the way she always was, with the protection of rick and co, she wouldn’t of got the development she needed. hence why it had to go that way to further beth’s character and develop her further. pair this with ‘it’s better now’ which could refer to that her fate will be better in the long run.
we see multiple shots of a walker in a car, the camera focuses on it not once but TWICE, once at the start and again later in the episode. the group stares at it uncomfortably, adding credibility to the theory of her being left in a car.
beth is also the last person to appear in the hallucinations, in a different scene. usually the best is saved for last or it could be a hint that one is not like the others. the whole episode is very strangely edited unlike any other in twd. it was purposeful to make audiences who aren’t paying as close attention to think the funeral at the start is beth’s, but we see at the end it’s tyresse’s when they show the exact same shot from the beginning at the end.
i think after reading your post about the leak of daryl listening to the radio and looking shocked. you speculated that maybe he heard beth on the radio or something about her. which is a parallel to tys hallucination where beth’s singing comes through the radio. it’s weirdly shot in the way that we first heard he radio glitching, then beth’s singing coming through it. but we see her singing in person, yet her voice still comes through the radio. this is really strange as they have a visual of her singing, yet her voice is coming through a different outlet.
another thing that i wanted to mention but didn’t know where to fit it in was the yellow sun on the ground that was focused on. beth’s signature colour to me is yellow as it was the colour of her top in still, she’s blonde, and she’s sort of seen as a ‘ray of sunshine’ in the apocalypse. this to me is hinting at beth still being alive and present in the apocalypse
let me know your thoughts💗
I completely agree with all of your analysis above. I think 5x09 is one ginormous hint to Beth's future arc, and it's all tied up with the CRM (we see lots of hints of them in the room where Ty is hallucinating, though at this point in the series, we had very little knowledge of them).
I also remember someone--I want to say Andrew Lincoln, but don't quote me on that--saying this was one of his favorite episodes that they ever filmed. Given how strange and abstract the episode is, I really side-eyed that. Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favorite episodes, too. I love it, but mostly because of what I think it foretells for Beth.
To have one of the actors say an episode that, as you say, is strangely edited and largely unexplained, is their favorite, makes me think they know things that we don't. I totally want to shake them and make them tell us why. But of course they're not going to do that.
So yeah. Like I said, I totally agree with everything you said. I liked how you explained the weirdness of both seeing Beth AND having her voice come out of the radio. I hadn't thought about it quite like that before.
Here's to hoping we finally get a fulfillment of this strange episode in the Daryl spinoff. Thanks so much for your thoughts and analysis. Xoxo! ☔️💝

MY BOYYYYY
I LOVE TYREESE.
Tyreese is such a sweetheart. I love himmmm. I wish he would've lived to see Alexandria. Actually I just wish he could've lived forever lol. He never did anything wrong in his entire life. Fight me (I don't think anyone will fight me on this but still).
I loved that he was kind of a voice of reason and was just trying to get along with everyone. He was always just such a great guy. I loved how he was both this big tough man, but also super sensitive and sweet.
We truly do not deserve Tyreese. He went through HELL when Carol killed his girlfriend, and he even FORGAVE her. I mean, he could've (and should've) killed her for that, but he didn't. Even if he did, I would've still respected him lol but the fact that he didn't just shows how good of a man he is.
And his death was so SAD. I can't believe they hit us with Beth's death and Tyreese's so close together. That was psychopathic behavior on AMC's part.
I love Tyreese and I miss him everyday lol.

Hello! Ive been trying to find someone that is still active and writing TWD for ever! I read a few of your stories and theyre amazing!!! I wanted to request a Dad! Daryl request if that is okay?
The idea was something like a dramatic reunion with the reader and him after the group finally see each other after Terminus got destroyed. For example lets say that the reader got seperated from Daryl for when the Prison got attacked and ended up alone or with someone else (for example with Carol and Tyresse or anyone else). So when Tyresse walks out the little house with Judith, reader could come out as well and see Daryl again for the first time. I think it would be really adorable and a heartwarming moment for both reader and Daryl + the rest of the group.
I hope this wasnt too long, thank you and have a good night/day!!
Ahh I've been working on something similar to this already!! I would love to post this as soon as possible!
Thank you ❤️

Tumblr media
You were near Noah’s place.
According to him, it was a safe community, with gates and all, and if we played our cards nicely, we could all stay there, he was over excited and Beth was too, and you had a sinking feeling on your stomach you couldn’t quite identify, you didn’t know if it was because you were nervous about going into someone else’s community, or for imminent danger.
You had found two cars, both runned down and in the brink of exploding, one of then was an old chevy SUV, and the other was an even older van
Only the SUV was working, Abraham insisted he could fix the Van, and as he, Rosita and Eugene did, Rick went forwards and formed a group, which was going to be the advanced group. Those were Rick, Michonne, Tyresse, Glenn, Beth, and Noah. And they left, starting driving north, you were shy of 200 miles from reaching Noah’s community
You stayed back with the rest
As the mechanical team tried to fix the van, you set guards with Daryk and the others
Carol and him went first, and you stayed back with Tara.
Maggie stayed inside the warehouse with Carl and Judith.
You took turns to mount guard, and now, it was your turn to go inside with the rest, the sun had already set, and it was pitch dark already outside, a cold lingering in the environment. The Warehouse was nice, very modern, it had a hard cement floor and a floor and a half of height, no rooms but a small office. You had lit a fire inside of a cut out oil drum, and all of the giruo gathered around it.
Maggie walked towards you, with baby Judith in her arms.
You didn’t want to sound dramatic or even paranoid, but they were all looking at you, seemingly watching your reaction, as they had been talking about you
They had been, but you didn’t know that, they had been talking about how you had become distant, and they wanted to change that.
“Here, hold her for sec”, said Maggie, handing you Judith over
“Oh no…”, you tried to deny her, but it was useless, you took the baby girl into your arms, as you looked at you with her big eyes. You were not a monster, and, she was so sweet.
The only babies you had ever held were your nephews and nieces, all of them far away from now. Rick had neve asked you to hold his daughter, and you believed that it was because he didn’t trust you with her.
But this… you looked at Maggie as she gave you  reassuring smile, and you smiled back at her
She trusted you, so did Rick, so did Daryl…
You accommodate her more into your hip as she seemed contented as she smiled at you, she was so small, a year and a half maybe, but she was a sweet baby
“She likes you”, said Carl with a soft smile, nodding at you, you smiled back
It felt nice, to hold a baby in your arms, like you said, it's been a while, and her very existence was the irrefutable proof that the world might be healing… that there was a chance for human kind.
You started rocking her, cooing at her, making funny faces until you got a couple of giggles out of her.
“Who is the sweetest girl in all the land?”, you asked teasingly. She reminded you so much of the babies in your family you felt your chest tightening. But at the same time, it felt kind of comforting. “You?”, you teased, tickling her with one of your hands, she giggled even louder, “is that you?”
Daryl entered the room at this point, the scene made hims top on his tracks, looking at you wide-eyed
“Look who’s there, uncle Daryl”, you teased, turning around
Oh this was doing things to him
But he smiled softly, as he was watching you finally clicking inside of the group, as the past few weeks you had been drifting a bit
“She tends to do that,”, Maggie whispered in his ear making him jump on his spot, “cheering people up”, she said, referring to baby Judith.
How could you ever think about leaving the group? Daryl had said it, and you now were believing it.
You were aprt of the family
And together, with this strange group of different people
You could do anything
You were going to face DC and whatever lies within
You were going to make it, you were going to face whatever it came, and someday, hopefully soon, you were going to find a home in which you could settle, maybe lay on some roots, and grow.
You didn’t return Judith to Maggie, that night, she curled up against you, you cuddled her against your chest and she slept in your arms until you placed her in a wooden box you found in the office, of course made comfortable by a bunch of blankets the team carried with them
Only after you had made sure she was fast asleep, you dared to found a comfortable spot and remove your boots
Your dirty socks were now bloodied, and take them out had ripped off the thin layer of a new scab that was forming, making the small wounds on your feet to bleed again
“Here, I found this”, muttered Rosita, giving you a small first aid kits
“No, what if someone needs them?”, you asked her
“You need them, those could get infected, and that will be an issue”, she said, you nodded, “need some help?”
“I think I’m fine”, you said, you had to bite your own lip not to scream at the sharp pain, when you cleaned them with alcohol, you felt a bit cowardly, but those motherfuckers stung!, but you managed to patch yourself up pretty decently
“Ya’ alright?”, asked Daryl, sitting by your side
“Yeah”, you muttered, with a soft smile, “just a couple of blisters exploded inside my thick boots”, you said crudely, you had to let the wounds “breathe”, so they were going to heal better and faster, tomorrow you’ll apply some more alcohol and that…
“Wanna sleep a bit?”, you asked him
“Ya’ go to sleep”, he said a bit defensively
“Fine”, you said with a smile, you watched around, Carl was asleep with Judith in the office, Abraham and Rosita had taken the van, you tried to ignore the wobble of the whole thing.
Maggie was on watch duty too, with Tara
You went to sleep that night, in turns, with a smile on your face, feeling safe, like they have your back, because they did.
You had to keep that hope up, no matter how you were hurt.
No matter also that the very next day Rick hit you up in the walkie talkie, as you just went into the rute with the freshly fixed Van
“It’s gone”, he said over the radio, and everybody could listen it, “all of it, it’s gone”
There was a silence on the vehicle, you could actually hear dreams breaking, hope being destroyed, and you could only think about Noah, as you cradled Judith, although you were not specially excited about becoming her primary caretaker right now…
But anyways
It was something that had been on your mind, Noah’s community being runned, but it was a reality now.
“What are we gonna do?”, you asked, Carol looked back at you
“We meet at the “rendezvous” point”, she said firmly, “we go from there”
“What the hell does that mean?”, asked Daryl
“it’s french, it means meeting”, you said softly, he frowned at you
“Ya’ speak french?”
“I just know the more popular words”, you answered with a soft smile
You felt a lump in your throat, the reality hitting you in waves, the fact that you didn’t have a safe place to be yet, and you were on the wind… once again.
And the worst piled up, as you received new that the team’s SUV didn’t work anymore and they were on foot, as it was magic, your own van dropped shortly after, leaving you roughly a hundred miles separated from your friends.
What a shitty situation
But you were not going to let go of your new found hope so easily, if everything was happening, is because you were certain there was something betterfor you all, you had to believe it.
So you were on your feet again, walking and then walking some more.
You walked in the rearguard, hand in your holdster and the other in your ax, you had come across some fuckers, but nothing you couldn’t handle
Eugene and Maggie with the kids were walking in the middle of the group, flanked by Rosita and Abraham, Tara and Sasha were walking behind, Carol was leading the group, followed closely by Gabriel,
It’s like everybody took their spots naturally at this point
Daryl always disappeared in the flanks, appearing after a couple of hours with a fresh hunt
And when he was near you, he was walking by your side. You looked at him and smiled softly, you enjoyed his company, always a soft and comfortable silence as you were
“Tell me something I don’t know”, you invited him, he looked at you and raised one of his eyebrows in question
“wha’?”, he asked
“Tell me something about you”, you said, “did you have a family?”
“I had a brother”, he said shortly, “i lost him a year back”
“I’m sorry”, you said
“He was a prick, but he was still my brother”, he said lightly, he looked back at you and seemed like he had so much to say, a story behind it, but he didn’t say a anything else, “got a dad when this shit started too”, he kept drawling, with his accent you liked so much. You just looked at him in question, “I ain’t sad he is gone though”, he said shortly
And you understood it
“He was more of a prick uh?”, you asked
“Yeah”, he said lightly, “How ‘bout you?”
“I had a mother, a stepfather, two siblings and nephews and nieces”, you said, “and many more before this started… I don’t know if… I still have someone out there”, you said, trying not to think about it, in our mind, they were all fine, together, on an island.
The uncertainty would have killed you if you didn’t have to fight for your life every day, distracting you.
“DId you live in Atlanta?”, you asked then, he looked back at you
“Yeah”, he said simply, “you?”, you smiled at him, and the name of your country just flew out of your mouth like it was nothing, it seemed so foreign, you didn’t think you had said it since this started, and it sounded weird
You miss it, you miss the world as it was, but, who didn’t?
“What were you doing after this?”, you asked him, you remembered that night and conversation with Abraham, how tense he got, he hadn't answered, and know you felt like you were in prison, nobody asked you who you were “before”, is not how things worked anymore. But you really wanted to get to know him better, and for that great rewards, you had to take some risks
“I…”, he seemed to doubt, to think about it, “didn’ do much”, he said, “just going around with my brother, up to no good”, he seemed conflicted at his confession, and then he raised his eyes from the road ahead of him and looked at you, frowning
Quick! change the subject
“When did you met Rick and the others?”, you asked
“First I met Carol, and Glenn of those who are left”, he said, “of a trafficjam outside of Atlanta”, he said softly
He didn’t have the heart to tell you that he and Merle decided to camp with the others to rob them, but then he decided against it, despite Merle’s protests and insults.
It had been so long ago
He was a different person now.
“How did you found RIck and Carl?”
“Carl found me on a roof”, you said with a smile, “decided to take me in”, he chuckled
“He asked you the questions?”
“He did”, you said with a soft smile, he nodded with a soft smile, “great kid”, you admitted, looking at wearer of the sheriff hat walking in front of you
He wanted to ask you back more questions, but you walked on silence, one step at a time
It took you two days to meet Rick’s gorup again, and their tiredness and hopelessness was evident.
Contrary to what you believed, the soldier trio as you called them were not the first ones to break, it seemed like Eugene had squashed whatever hope they had the hardest, so they now were hopeful to anything they could find, so they were the pens who kept it together.
You had formed a friendship with Rosita, Tara and Maggie, the former teaching you so many cool survival stuff, like how to create a water filter, with just different kinds of rocks.
You kept walking towards DC, now wordlessly, you didn’t even know where to start.
The group was crumbling, but you tried to keep it together, taking care of Judith, mounting guard, helped to keep the hunter of the group more comfortable, making sure he stayed hydrated and took some decent hours of sleep each night, as he slept by yours or Carol’s side.
It was sad to say, that you were getting used to being in the wild
That is, until resources started to be dangerously scarce…
Starting by the water.
You were starving, you were dehydrated, and you felt like you were about to collapse
“What this it?”
You looked back at the small horde of walkers that were coming after you, like vultures, hoping one of you lost the footing and fell, for you to make a mistake
It was until you were on a bridge that RIck decided to command you to take care of them
It wasn’t confrontational, but you were to push them down towards a ditch.
You were so tired you didn’t think you’d had the energy for anything else.
You let them reach you and you grabbed the first one and threw him off the bridge. the second one proved itself more feisty, so you had to take out your axe
You did not believe in letting them “keep walking”, you were more into eliminating them permanently.
You did that until all of them were gone, and then you kept walking
“I’m starting to think we should have stayed in those houses”, Daryl muttered hopefully, looking at you, you looked back at him.
“Mee too”, you admitted
“We are close to DC”, Rick said out loud, “we need to keep going”
Yeah, we needed to keep going
A big city meant there were more places where you can find food, canned goods, supplies, they might all be sacked, but in this big world, there were still hidden places with useful things on them.
“Say nothing”, demanded Daryl, as he walked by your side, “I think someone had been following us”
“Really?”, you asked
“Got nothin’ to show for it”, he said, “but yeah”
“Friend or foe?”, you asked
“Don’t know”
But if someone was indeed following you, and you trusted Daryl completely, nobody showed themselves to be.
And the fact that you had to eat wild dogs to survive the very next day made you hope those who were watching were deterred from doing something to you…
You didn’t feel great about it, but this was about living, surviving, and you hoped you didn’t have to do it again.
The very next day, as your eyesight was tunneling, you found gallons of water on the road, apparently, laid down for you to take
“From a friend”, it read, you watched Daryl carefully, who seemed mistrustful of it
To the surprise of all, Eugene took one bottle, ready to try it, but Abraham slapped it off of his hands.
“We cannot trust this”, said Rick angrily
You were going to take a bottle and drink it yourself, but Daryl grabbed you by the hand the second you were going to move, preventing you from doing so.
But as you were going to protest, you were interrupted by a lightning, sounding far away, but with it, came rain.
It hit you from one moment and to the next, you were soaked
You actually cheered when you felt the liquid of life hitting your face, you spread your arms wide and enjoyed it. Everyone in the group were so excited, except JUdith, who cried as she didn’t like it at all, but it was still a very enjoyable moment
“Grab what you can! with whatever you have!”, said Rick and he was right, you needed to gather it. You used a trekking water bottle, those with wide necks, to gather some water.
But the joy suddenly turned to worry, as darker and darker clouds were on the horizon.
“I know somewhere we can go!”, said Daryl, leading you away from the bottles and into the woods
You saw a small barn where you could seek shelter, and the rain started to become more and more intense.
A whole storm broke out, as you took a walker that was in the small room in the back of the barn, a woman, who couldn’t take it anymore. It was sad, really
“She had a gun, she could have shot herself”, muttered Carol, watching the scene
“Some people can’t give up”, said Daryl, “like us”, he gave you a look and returned to the main space
The night quickly fall over you and with it, a full storm started to rage, to shake the barn to its core.
Carl had fallen asleep like a log, after eating the squirrels Daryl had hunted for you.
You curled up on the floor, the archer by your side and Rosita on your other side. Rick ont he other side of Daryl
They had managed to set a fire, and you tried to relax, but the storm raging outside was proving to be difficult to that endeavor
“I used to feel sorry for kids that have to grow up now…”, said Rick, as he was talking to Carol, but now he was talking to the rest of you, “In this.. But now I think I got it wrong… Growing up is getting used to the world, it will be easier for them”
His words weighed on you, and what they meant, Rick looked positively feral, he had been through so much, twice as much because of the weight of his children on him.
“This isn’t the world”, said Michonne, the ambience was tense, many had gone to sleep, you couldn’t hold yourself up any longer and leaned into Daryl, he didn’t seem to mind as he relaxed his stance, ”this isn’t it”, said Michonne
It was idiotic to think you were going to live long enough to see the world back to the way it was before, eliminate the virus so the dead didn’t rise again? reinstate governments? start to create infrastructure again? you didn’t see it
“It might be”, said Gleen, looking at the flame in front of him
“That’s giving up!”, continued Michonne
“It’s reality”, he said back
“Until we see otherwise, that is what we have to deal with”, the sound of the storm was lulling you to sleep, going completely slack against the archer, who seeme to mold to your comfort.
“When I was a kid… I asked my grandpa once if he ever killed any Germans in the war…”, Rick’s voice felt further and further away, “...he wouldn’t answer, he said that was grown up stuff… so i asked if the Germans ever tried to kill him, but he got real quiet, he said he was dead the minute he stepped into enemy territory…”
You took a long breath, breathing Daryl in, the warmth of his skin against your cheek
“Every day he woke up and told himself… “rest in peace, now get up and go to war”, and then after a few years that he pretended he was dead… he made it out alive. That’s the trick of it, I think”
His rambles made more and more sense into your head
“We do what we need to do and then we get to libe… but no matter what we find in DC, I know we’ll be okay… because this is how we survive. we tell ourselves… that we… are the walking dead”, just as you were embracing this new reality, point of view, or whatever it was, Daryl whole body shook softly with the rumble of his voice
“We ain’t them”, he said decisively, he accommodated you even more against his side, placing his arm around your shoulders, and you finally fell asleep, cuddled against him.
You woke up startled, the sounds of wood crushing shook you to your core.
The doors of the barn threatened to burst open, and if the growling outside was of any indication, the storm wasn’t the only thing seeking destruction in the night.
Daryl was the first one to place his hands on the wood, pushing, perhaps that is why you realized what was happening
You were the second
“We need all hands in!”, you called, Rosita’s and Abraham’s hands were the next, and all of them followed, pushing the doors back to their place.
The gods forbid you have one peaceful night.
You didn't know then, then the very next day… you were going to find everything you were looking for.

@virtuousouls || Tyreese for Rick
.。.:*☆ This was not good. Like, Tyreese had thought of himself to be mentally stable still, despite of all the odd things that had been happening to him lately. Like, waking up in Sydney, Australia in the 1920′s one day with a head full of fake memories. Yet, he did not have to deal with the Walkers anymore, and society had not been falling apart, so, there was not too much Tyresse could complain about, really.
And now.... Tyreese could not tell where he was, exactly, but those woods made his shiver. There was something about this place that made him doubt his sanity, even when he could not put a finger onto it, really.
“Hello?” He called out, sighing. Maybe.... well, maybe, if someone else was here, it meant that Tyreese was still sane, and this all was not only happening in his mind, after all....
