time travel fix it au's are done to death in this fandom but also they're my favourite thing in the world so au where the entire show happens as is and it's heartbreaking and inspiring etc but then. restart button. waking back up at the start of the end except only the people that lived remember
wanna think about what would happen when daryl and carol wake up at camp, remembering everything that happened; carol stronger, knowing in her gut that everything that she remembers is real, and daryl fucking terrified, because if everything in his head actually happened, then what the fuck is this
wanna think about a rick dragging a hostile merle and a wide-eyed glenn back to camp, memories completely intact, and running to reunite with his family. not letting daryl go and hugging carol so so so tight, collapsing to the ground with carl in his arms
wanna think about them dragging the atlanta group to the farm, maggie leaving the front porch light on for them, and everyone reuniting. rick seeing hershel again, daryl seeing beth, carol pulling sophia close, and maggie being unable to even breath, looking at glenn
wanna think about them tossing up whether to even go to the prison, but they met important people there, and alexandria's a long way, and if they're gonna survive this time–if they're gonna live–they're gonna do it right
so they go to the prison so they can figure out their next step, and michonne's there and waiting, andre on her hip, and they deal with the governor before the governor deals with them, and sasha and tyresse finally show up, they find the prisoners, and then one day they get a knock on the front gate, and it's negan
negan showing up, no baseball bat in hand but his leather jacket still in place, a sick but alive lucille by his side, laura and doctor franklin behind him, and all he's got to say is at the end of the world, i know which side i wanna be on
the fallout of that, of maggie being against it, of rick never having gotten to see negan at the end, not knowing the choices he made, the good and the bad. daryl and carol looking at glenn, seeing him alive and in love and having no memory of his last moments, and never wanting anything to ruin that, but negan saved judiths life, helped save all their lives. he chose, in the end, and now it's their turn
wanna think about a future where beth doesn't die, but they go on a rescue mission to get noah anyway. a future where tara turns up with her niece, led by eugene with abraham and rosita following right behind him
wanna think about how they'd handle terminus, how they'd handle the claimers. wanna think about them trying to find father gabriel, except gabe made it the first time around, and he wasn't wasting his second chance. he saved his flock, and he led them to alexandria, and he's waiting
wanna think of connie's group searching for hilltop. not finding maggie, or alden, but finding jesus. wanna think about lydia, being a fucking child, and watching her mother kill her dad, and remembering aaron telling her how loved she was
wanna think of the growing pains of them being able to save so many more family members this time, but god, a larger group is harder to keep alive
daryl trying to run interference with merle and everyone else, getting the jack of it one day and telling him he's already mourned him once, and he won't again. if merle wants to stay–to live–then it's up to him. daryl's not gonna babysit him anymore
rick trying to find his footing between lori and shane and judith, with carl, with michonne and andre. michonne looking at a weak but alive lori grimes holding a screaming and crying newborn in her arms, and knowing that she's never gonna be her daughter the way she was before, but knowing she'll always be something to her
carol struggling to be the mother sophia needs her to be, emotions too sharp and constantly fucking terrified. doesn't know how to hold onto someone like that anymore, either gripping too tight or not at all
maggie trying to exist in a world where she has everyone she's ever loved back, so close and so fucking dear, except it cost her her son. not knowing if she'll ever get him back at all. doesn't know how to live with the grief of losing someone she never technically had in this world
they make it to alexandria and it's aaron opening the gate for them, waiting to welcome them home

The Magic of Christmas - Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Summary: It's the night of the big Christmas party for the town and Y/N attempts to get out of going, but Sam pressures her into going while unintentionally making her closer to Negan.
Characters: Negan, Y/N (reader), Sam, Rick, etc.
AO3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/35158540/chapters/89277166
Warnings: Swearing, smut, angst, etc.
Notes: Thanks again to all those that are reading this! Love you guys. Sorry for any errors. My sleep schedule is so whack.
It was the day of the big Christmas party that the town was having. It was early in the morning, but late enough into the morning that Y/N should have been up. Sam got up a while ago and while she was awake, she pretended to be asleep. Instead of trying to wake her up, Sam let her sleep in. Was it wrong to pretend that she was still sleeping to avoid contact with him? Probably. At this point that’s all she felt like she could do though.
The night before, Negan had eventually come back into the theatre, but they didn’t interact much after what happened. They just watched the play, afterwards the family talked while she stood in the background and interacted with the kids. Interacting with Sam’s family was just getting harder and harder knowing what eventually was going to happen at the end of the trip. Getting close to these people was no good. Especially since she knew she would never see them again.
At this point, Y/N was considering just pretending to be sick. Going to a big town party and lying to all those people’s faces was just too much energy. Things were hard enough. Pretending in front of a whole room of people she didn’t know was going to be way too complicated. Playing sick was probably the best thing that she could do. Sam would understand being sick.
When the door being pushed open was heard, Y/N cleared her throat and turned in the bed to see Sam excited that she was awake. Yup, she was going to go with the feeling sick route. That was the best thing to do without a doubt, “Good morning beautiful.”
“Morning,” she feigned a smile when Sam sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to squeeze over her shoulder in a loving embrace.
“You excited for tonight?” Sam shook her arm in a spirited manner. The answer, no. But she didn’t want to be blunt like that. “It’s a really big night. Like super big for this whole town. Music, dancing, partying, food…”
“To be honest with you Sam, I’m not really feeling all that well,” she outstretched her body in the bed, enjoying the warmth of the blankets around her hoping that she could just spend her day there. When she said that Sam frowned and reached out to place his hand in over her forehead. Here he was checking for a fever. Did he think the only reason to stay home was because she had a fever? Reaching for Sam’s hand, she wrapped her fingers around his wrist and got him to lower his hand from her head. “I don’t think I’ll be able to go tonight.”
“Well, that’s…impossible,” Sam muttered with a shake of his head, looking down at his watch to see what time it was. “See, I may have told Mayor Grimes that you would make a few things for the party tonight. We were talking about the play last night and then I was talking about the cupcakes we had which led to me talking about you being a baker too. I told him you would make some things for tonight.”
“For tonight? What do you expect me to make Sam?” she sat up in the bed, frustrated that he was only telling her this now. Shouldn’t he have asked her if she would be comfortable with that kind of thing first?
“Well, it’s a cranberry festival theme,” Sam explained making her heart hammer inside of her chest while she clutched tightly to the blankets. “It’s not going to be that hard, right? I told him you would make a few things. I think you have enough time because I have to go put finishing details into everything at the party with Alden. You should be able to pull a few things out of your hat with all that baking you like to do.”
“Sam, the planning for things like this takes a very long time,” she stammered hating that she was being put on the spot when Sam made a promise to someone without coming to her first. “I was thinking of just taking the night off because I wasn’t feeling well and now, you’re telling me that I have to make things before this party tonight. Not just one thing, multiple things and I assume it has to be enough for all of the people there.”
“Well, you are always going off about how much you love cooking and baking so I figured you wouldn’t have a problem doing that here in this case,” Sam defended himself, throwing his hands up in the air while he spoke. “You would think since this is the kind of thing you want to do with your life that you would be able to pull it off.”
“Yeah, if I had the supplies, the right sized kitchen and…” she realized that what Sam just said to her was a bit of an attack on what she wanted to do with her life again. You know what? Fuck it, fine. If that’s how things were going to be then she would make it work. “Your father told me the other night that he had a friend who has a restaurant. I assume they will be going to the party tonight which means they will be closed and maybe they will allow me to use their kitchen. How many people am I going to be making things for though?”
“A lot,” Sam winced hearing her let out a groan and she buried her head into her hands. Reaching out, he brushed his fingers over her exposed flesh on her shoulder. “I didn’t know you were going to wake up feeling bad, but trust me, by the end of the night I really think you are going to be happy you forced yourself to go to this party. It’s going to be incredible. They always are.”
“A party is a party Sam,” she reasoned with him, reaching for her phone and she knew that she was going to have to ask Negan for a favor which made this more difficult.
“Yeah, but this is a big Christmas party with the whole town there. You have never been to things like that before,” Sam reminded her, getting up from the bed to go over toward the drawers to search for something comfortable to wear to go to help Rick. While she scrolled through her phone, she saw out of the corner of her eye that Sam pulled his shirt from his body and tossed the material at the corner of the room. Sam did have a beautiful body and she’d be a fool to think otherwise, but he just didn’t do it for her like his father did. “It might be good getting my dad to help you. It gets him off his ass and makes for certain that he will have to go tonight. He was talking about not going. If you get him to help you, maybe he will change his mind.”
“Yeah, maybe,” she pulled her phone up to her ear when the phone started ringing. Sam turned on his heel to see she was calling someone making his head tilt to the side.
“Who are you calling?” Sam muttered in a whisper.
“Your dad,” she retorted with a snort thinking that it was rather obvious. Literally she just told him her thought process before she even dialed the number.
“You have my dad’s phone number?” Sam reached up to push his fingers through his mid-length hair making her let out a tense breath. Oh, right. That would have been a hard one to explain if they had not spent alone time together where Sam knew about it.
“The other night when you were drunk off your ass, he gave it to me to make sure to let him know how you were,” she lied knowing that she was probably going to hell for this whole thing. It was a lie that Sam believed though because he nodded. Turning on his heel, he headed over to the bathroom to clean up. That was easier to sell the lie than she thought it would be.
“Hello?” Negan’s voice answered on the other end after a long-time ringing. It made her think that maybe he didn’t want to talk to her since it took him so long to answer.
“Busy?” she inquired knowing that she was curious why it took him so long to respond to her. After last night she assumed that maybe he didn’t want to talk to her.
“I was in the shower,” Negan replied with a loud sigh. While she wanted to believe that was true. She didn’t.
“I’ don’t believe that,” she objected hearing him chuckle on the other end.
“I wouldn’t lie to you. I’m standing in front of my sink naked while looking at myself soaking fucking wet. I jumped out of the shower when I saw it was you,” Negan explained with a grunt before she heard movement on the other end of the phone. When he came back, she found herself confused. “Check your messages.”
When her phone vibrated to let her know that she had gotten a text message, she pulled it forward to see what Negan had sent to her phone. Before she could open it, Sam moved back out into the bedroom to grab something else and she quickly lowered her phone. Sam’s attention was elsewhere when he moved back into the bathroom and closed the door behind him. Pulling the phone forward again, she clicked open the text to see that Negan took a photo of himself in the mirror. He was shirtless, body soaked and the mirror stopped just low enough to show the dark curls of hair that surrounded the part of his body that she had gotten to know quite well.  It proved to her that he was in the shower while also teasing her with the idea of more. This man was bold, that was for sure.
“That was brave of you,” she stated when she put the phone back up to her ear and heard him laugh on the other end. “A little bit risqué, isn’t it?”
“You don’t see my cock, so I think you’re okay,” Negan grumbled making her face flush over when he said it. Well that was one thing Negan was. Blunt. It didn’t even seem like he was bothered at the idea of sending her that. It was to tease her while keeping up the playful banter between them. “What’s up? Why did you call me? I know it wasn’t so I would send you a selfie of myself.”
“How do you know that?” she teased him with a small chuckle knowing that she shouldn’t be doing this when Sam was in the other room. She didn’t regret him sending her that photo. It wasn’t something she would even consider deleting at this point. It would be used to help her get through things.
“I mean you could be, but I doubt it,” Negan reasoned with a grunt while he shuffled on the other side of the phone. She pictured that he grabbed a towel by now to wipe himself down. “So what’s up darlin’?”
If Sam wasn’t in the other room, she would have loved to go back to how they were in the past with talking dirty with Negan, but she knew better. They were risking enough as it was with how open they were with each other.
“Well, your son just threw on me about five minutes ago that he told Rick that I would make multiple things tonight for the Christmas party,” she explained to Negan hearing him huff on the other end and she shook her head. “Apparently he didn’t think it was a big deal and figured I could make enough food for everyone in just a few hours.”
“That sounds like Sam,” Negan remarked making her shake her head, “he used to do the same thing to his mom when he was a boy. He’d come home and tell her she needed to make something for a bake sale that same day. Drove Lucille crazy.”
“Well, good to know he’s the same way with everyone else and not just me,” she reached up to pinch the bridge of her nose hating to hear that there was things that were never going to change with Sam. This would all be easier for her to take if Sam was just her friend and not her boyfriend. Things like this just made him more unappealing to her. “I was wondering if your friend would allow us to make things in their kitchen because there is no way I’m going to be able to do that in just the kitchen here in such the small amount of time that I have. The one oven isn’t going to help.”
“I don’t know Y/N, about that…” Negan hesitated on the other end of the phone making her chest tighten upon hearing the change in his voice. What did that mean? “My friend is kind of upset with me. Apparently, he had cameras in his kitchen and even though they were closed they keep recording even when they are closed.”
“What?” she gasped, sitting forward in the bed feeling her heart pounding away in her chest. They couldn’t have luck that bad. “Please tell me you are joking.”
“I’m totally joking,” Negan snickered on the other end of the phone making her tense up upon hearing it. She couldn’t tell what was real. Was he just saying that? “I’m totally joking with you. I wanted to fuck with you. I swear I’m fucking joking.”
“That’s not funny Negan,” she reached up to place her hand over her head in a stressful manner. With the way things had been going for them since the moment she stepped into this town, she actually assumed that the world would keep playing these cruel pranks with them. “It’s something that I would actually believe happening with our luck.”
“Let me call him and I’ll see what he says,” Negan offered, breathing heavily when he got ready on the other end of the phone. “How did you know I would be willing to help you with this?”
“I was hoping…well, begging that you would,” she sighed on the other end of the phone hating to count on another person, but her intentions were good. Negan’s chuckle filled the phone and her face flushed over.
“Well, with you begging…how can I say no?” Negan challenged making her swoon at the thought. God, she needed to get out of that mindset. There were so many things that Negan did that made her fall for him more and more. Yet with Sam, it was the opposite and it made her feel guilty. “Are you sure you will be okay with me being there with you in that very place considering…”
“I think I can handle it,” she interrupted him not wanting him to continue further with where he was headed. Could she? That was a good question. It wasn’t one they could really discuss though because who knew when Sam would come out of the bathroom. “Can you?”
“I might get a hard on, but I think I’ll be okay,” Negan bluntly responded making her let out an uncomfortable breath knowing that she was trying to be careful with Sam, but Negan just let his mouth run. In other circumstances, that comment would have been countered by her with another sexual one said right back. “Let me call them, I’ll let you know if they say yes. If they say yes, I’ll be over there to pick you up in like a half hour.”
“We have to go to the store first if this whole thing goes through,” she noted making sure to get that last bit in. “I have to get cranberries and a lot of them. I don’t want to use all of his ingredients that he has there at the restaurant.”
“There is a store right down the street, so it will be no big deal,” Negan assured her on the other end with a huff. “I’ll call you right back.”
And like that, Negan hung up the phone. When she lowered the phone, Sam came out and he was dressed to head out, “What did he say?”
“He’s checking to see if we could use the kitchen and he’ll let me know,” she claimed watching as Sam crawled across the bed to her. When he leaned in for a kiss, she knew that she didn’t want it, but she accepted it. When her phone buzzed, she quickly turned her head away to see in the alerts that Negan said yes and he would come get her. “Your dad said yes so I need to get a shower in.”
“Why don’t you take it after? You’re probably going to take one before the party,” Sam pointed out when she slid out from beneath him to get some of her stuff. “I’m serious Y/N. This is going to be a big day for us. Lots of people. Lots of fun.”
“I’ll take two showers then,” she waved her hand in the air dismissively. “I feel terrible right now, remember? Maybe a shower will help make me feel better before your dad comes to get me.”
“Okay, well I’m going to be heading out. I’ll see you in a little bit, okay?” Sam got up from the bed and headed for the door. Nodding, she didn’t really give him much attention when she headed into the bathroom.
Getting ready was easy. Even though it was strange, she was enthusiastic to be able to be spending time with Negan. Even if the moment was exceedingly stressful. She liked the idea of it. When Negan was there to pick her up, he just texted her to let her know and she ran out to the truck. There was no time to really screw around, they had to get things done. She had a point to prove to Sam and herself really. They briefly talked about what he needed to know before heading to the store first.
“So, my son got you to agree to this because he pulled the whole, I thought this is what you wanted thing,” Negan queried while he pushed along the cart for Y/N as she grabbed items for what she would need to make things. “Peer pressure baby girl. You shouldn’t let him do that to you.”
“I’m a good baker Negan,” she firmly asserted and he nodded, knowing that was a true statement from what he had already seen from her. “I just hate that he tries to act like I’m not. Like I’m some kind of a fake.”
“Well he doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Negan slurred, grasping his fingers tightly to the bar of the basket that he was holding onto. “You know just as much as I do that you have nothing to prove. Everyone last night made that pretty clear when they had your cupcakes.”
“I know that, but it just annoys me that people try to act like I would be a failure,” she stated when they reached the section where all of the cranberries were. Piling in the bags of them, she counted out in her head what she thought they were going to need. “So I’m thinking some Christmas cranberry cakes, a few Nantucket pies and an orange cranberry relish.”
“Sounds good to me. It sounds above and beyond, but good,” Negan soothed her, nodding his head in agreeance knowing that she really didn’t even need to do that much, but she was trying to prove that she was good enough. They didn’t talk much about anything other than what they were going to be doing with cooking. When they got in line to check out, Negan leaned his upper half over the cart to get her attention. “I finished your last cupcake today.”
“Is that why you’re looking a little swollen?” she blurt out in just attempts to screw with him, but an offended face flooded his features. It took a moment, but then he looked down at himself and laughed, his nose wrinkling when she said that.
“Probably,” Negan shrugged his shoulders making her lift her hand to her eyes to cover them. “It’s probably going to my ass.”
“First thing, I was joking. You look fine,” she swore with a tiny laugh while Negan helped her put everything on the conveyor belt for checkout. “Second thing, nothing goes to your ass. You have such a tiny, small ass.”
“You’re not wrong,” Negan chuckled, giving her a wink while they continued to empty the cart together. After everything was on the conveyor belt, Negan teasingly turned away from her, pushing his bottom out as much as possible. It made her immediately burst out in laughter and the woman in front of them gave Y/N a glare. Attempting to silence her laughter, she watched Negan’s nose wrinkle and he shrugged. “I was never capable of gaining a fat ass, no matter how much weight I gained and trust me, I got thick for a while.”
“You?” she snickered and Negan nodded his head. “I’m sure you looked amazing back then too. I can’t picture you looking anything less than perfect.”
“You’re something else, you know that?” Negan gave her a wink. Giving a compliment wasn’t such a bad thing, right? It was innocent enough. They finished up and gathered the supplies back in the car before heading back to the restaurant. Negan carried in most of the supplies assuring her that he had it while she gathered the items they would need to make everything. “You think we can get this done in time for when we need it?”
“We sure as hell can try,” she separated all the items knowing that she was really pushing it in trying to make three separate items, but she had a point to prove. Not only to Sam, but also to herself. This was her future goals. This had to be something that she could pull off. Negan tossed off his jacket and moved in beside her fully prepared to help her. “You’re in this for the long haul?”
“Yes ma’am,” Negan grinned making her taking in a long shallow breath. Right now she just had to focus on what she could in order to get through all of this. Honestly? She would have been lost without Negan. “What do you need me to do? I’m all yours.”
“Well the easiest thing we can have you make is the cranberry apple relish. We need cranberries, apples, oranges and sugar. For every bag of cranberries we use, we need one cup of sugar, one apple and one orange. How much do you think we’ll need?” she shoved some items toward Negan watching the way he struggled with himself to find an answer. “Let’s go with ten of the recipe. Can you use the food processor to blend it all together and then dump it into a bowl where you’ll put the sugar? You can obviously take time doing it in parts. I’ll do the Cranberry Christmas Cake and the Nantucket Pie. Do you think you can do that?”
“Sounds easy enough,” Negan went immediately to work doing exactly what she asked of him. No questions, no putting up a fight. It was nice. This was what she pictured a relationship would be like. People working together and helping each other with ease.
“Hey Negan?” she looked over her shoulder while she prepared everything.
“Yeah?” Negan gave a quick glance back at her.
“Thank you. You really have no idea how much this means to me,” she meant it. The fact he would drop everything to help her really touched her heart. Simply nodding, Negan went back to work and it made her smile. Even after everything, Negan was there for her. That said a lot.
They just worked hard and kept doing what they had to. It took more time than she would have liked it to have taken, but everything was prepared in the cake sheet pans and springform pans. Now it was all about cooking everything. Getting some of the items into the ovens in the kitchen, she calculated on her watch just how much time they would have to spare if they got all of these in the oven.
“We looking good?” Negan rubbed his hands together when he finished off with what she asked him to do. Negan had gotten the relish in containers to be prepared to go to the party. “I sampled the cranberry relish and it was good.”
“Why am I not surprised that you snuck some in?” she snickered reaching up to wipe at her head with the back of her hand knowing that she was getting a bit heated from being in the kitchen. “Your son deserves a kick in the ass for throwing this on me last second, but I think we will have enough time for us to finish, take the items to the building ahead of time and then just enough to get a shower in before getting ready for the party. As long as nothing fucks up. When those cakes come out of the oven, we have to do two more runs. Then we should be finished.”
“So it’s about waiting at this point?” Negan confirmed with her which led him over toward the walk-in fridge to store the relish to keep it cold. When he came out of the walk-in, he saw her resting back against one of the counters and he cleared his throat. “I think…while we wait, the two of us need to have a talk.”
“About what?” she frowned, lifting her head to stare up at him. She folded her arms in front of her chest and it made him crack a smile. Moving across from her, he leaned back against one of the preparation tables that were lined up and wrapped his fingers around the edge of it. When he gave her an expecting glance, she cleared her throat and nodded. “Oh.”
“Oh,” he repeated her words with his lips partially agape when he breathed loudly. “I’ve been thinking a lot about things. I know this sounds aggressive and I hope you don’t feel pressured, but I want you to break up with Sam.”
“That was the plan as soon as we got home,” she bobbed her head about knowing that was exactly what they had planned from the start. Of course she was planning on breaking up with Sam. “Remember? I played this whole thing up until I went home and I broke up with him. I wouldn’t tell him what happened between us.”
“Maybe it’s for the best that we do tell him,” Negan bit at his bottom lip, his Adam’s apple bouncing in his throat when he took a moment to think things over. “This isn’t going to stop between us. You know it just as much as I do.”
“If we tell Sam about this whole thing it’s going to ruin the relationship that the two of you have. I can’t allow that to happen Negan,” she denied his suggestion immediately knowing that she didn’t want to be the reason to ruin a family. “I know what it’s like to be part of a broken family and I can’t do that to the two of you. I’ve not seen someone Sam’s age that still loves their parents like Sam loves you. The two of you are close and you have fun together.”
“My love for Sam won’t change if I tell him about us,” Negan reasoned with her, raising his right hand up to place it over the center of his chest. “I just know how I feel when I’m with you and I don’t want you just to disappear after this trip for you.”
“You and I both know that it’s never going to work,” she shook her head hating to admit that, but the situations were just too fucked up for them to be together. “If Sam wasn’t your son and maybe he was a nephew, then yeah…”
“There has to be something that we can do,” Negan reasoned with her when one of the alarms went off alerting her that it was time to change the next batch of things in the oven. The smell when she pulled open one of the ovens made him groan out when the smell filled the air around them. “Fuck me, that smells great.”
“You think?” she sat out one of the cakes for it to cool before gathering the next few things to set out. Negan stood over one of the cakes and looked it over knowing that everything she had made so far smelled so damn good. “I know they are simpler recipes and mostly are sweets, but…”
“They are perfect,” Negan praised her, helping her to put the next batch of items into the ovens. When she moved back over toward the items she pulled out to cool, Negan moved in behind her. Her hands were stretched out over the counter and he slid his palms in beside her. Taking advantage of the position, he held the warmth of his hands over hers before hooking his fingers with her. Leaning down, his lips hovered over the side of her neck making her shudder. There was an immediate reaction to him being this close to her. “We’re good together. We’re a team. You have to admit that what we have…what we feel when we are together…”
“It’s the most addictive thing I’ve ever felt in my life,” she interrupted him with a whimper when his lips descended over the side of her neck. The stubble from his short beard tickled at her skin making her eyes come to a tight close. Tipping her head back, she allowed more space for Negan to kiss over her flesh and she tremored while his kisses rose up over her jawline. A fire was growing deep within her and it never took very much. Negan knew the right places to touch and all the right things to say. “I know how I feel.”
“Then we need to do something about it,” Negan lifted his right hand to persuade her chin to turn in his direction so his lips could faintly skim over hers. After teasing, he claimed her lips with his and kissed her skillfully taking the time for her to open up to the idea. A small whine fell from her throat when he just pulled slightly away from her. With his intense hazel eyes, he lowered his gaze to her wet lips and a faint grin tugged at the corners of his lips. “We’re perfect together. It’s not fair that we can’t be together because the world played such a cruel prank on us. Everything about us is perfect when we’re together.”
“I won’t disagree with you,” she pulled her mouth from his fully and turned in his arms. “I just would hate myself forever if I ruined what you and Sam had together. It’s not worth it for me.”
“How do you know that?” Negan stammered, his eyes shifting while he tried to read her emotions. “How do you know it’s not worth it for me?”
“Because I know how you feel about your son and you don’t love me,” she declared watching his face scrunch up once she said that. What they had felt more like an intense fling that she doubted would ever be able to go anywhere. Their start was just too hard and complicated. “I told you last night that I loved you and you said nothing.”
“I kissed you,” Negan reminded her of what had happened as she pulled herself out from the tight space she had between him and the prep table. A disappointed breath fell from his throat when she made her way over to another part of the kitchen. When she disappeared into the storage room, Negan headed that way and stepped into the doorway while she surveyed things over. “I know I care about you. You have to understand that the last person I loved was my wife. Love is something I have to learn all over again, but you’re the only person that I want to even approach that subject with.”
“And I’m the only person you can’t have,” she kept herself turned away from him while she faked looking for something. She had everything she needed, but she needed to keep herself away from Negan. In moments like these, she never thought with a clear head when it came to Negan.
“Then we need to find a way to make it so we can change things,” Negan challenged stepping in behind her while she stood before the metal shelves. Grasping her hips firmly in his palms, his head lowered down and he teased his lips over the side of her neck again. “We can’t keep our hands off of each other.”
“Because you’re like a drug Negan,” she tried to reason it inside of her head when Negan’s hand slid around her abdomen to caress over the area just below her navel. When Negan’s fingers fumbled with the button in her pants, she swallowed down hard and lowered her gaze. When Negan got the material apart, he pushed his large hand down the front of her pants palming in over her warmth. Dropping her head back, it rest against the center of his chest while he caressed over her most intimate parts. There was no want to stop him, even if she knew it was against everything she had been saying. It felt too good. “Something that I can’t break the addiction of.”
“It’s more than that,” Negan hummed with his lips pressed against her earlobe. Flicking his tongue out against her flesh, Negan took his time to pamper her with his caress knowing that she was confused with what she wanted, but she wasn’t pushing him away. “Have you been with my son since you’ve been here?”
“Of course not,” she whimpered when Negan pulled her back closer to him so his fingers could center in over her core making her grasp tightly to the shelves that were before her. With Negan’s long, slender index finger sliding its way into her with ease, she felt her body shaking. “I only want you.”
“That’s good. That’s a start then,” Negan pumped his finger inside of her, taking his time to have her a whimpering mess in front of him before inserting another finger into her. The friction of his palm rubbing against her clitoris while he thrust his fingers into her time and time again had her rocking her hips into the movement. “I think the both of us have been hurting since our last time together had been abruptly ended the other day. Right?”
“Yes,” she panted, keeping a firm hold of the storage shelves with her right hand while lowering her left hand to reach back to squeeze at Negan’s hip. The pumping of Negan’s fingers into her felt incredible making her lick her lips. Negan made her feel so pampered and on top of the world. Unlike most men she had been with, he knew exactly what needed to be done to pleasure her. Either way, she was head over heels for this guy and it was clear as day.
“Do you want to cum?” he growled, nibbling at her earlobe when he stepped in closer to her.
“Yes,” she cried out when the thrusts of his fingers got stronger inside of her. It was impressive how Negan knew exactly where he had to stroke his fingers to get her cooing for him. Reaching behind her, she attempted to pull at Negan’s belt while having trouble with it. Using his free hand, Negan helped her get the material apart and the managed to unbutton the material. Almost immediately her hand was sliding beneath the material of his boxer briefs and jeans to grab a hold of his semi-erect cock. Nuzzling his nose against the side of her neck, Negan moaned against her skin while she caressed over his body in tempo with the thrusts of his fingers inside of her. “Negan!”
“That’s it,” Negan encouraged her, dragging his tongue out over her flesh before leaving tiny nibbles. Everything was enhanced with him. He wasn’t wrong, she had been daydreaming about him since the last time they were together. He was never off of her mind. Even after he sent her that photo this morning, her thoughts had been less than pure. “You’ve awoken a fire inside of me that I haven’t felt since Lucille was alive. I want you. I want you so bad and I want to be with you. I want to call you mine and have you call me yours.”
“I want that too,” she gasped, while Negan thrust his hips up toward the grasp she had around his solid erection making her purr. “Negan please…I need you.”
“Here?” Negan muttered pulling his head back enough to see her nod. Pulling his fingers from her body had her crying out, but she swiftly pushed her pants and panties down her body. The sound of Negan pushing at his jeans behind her was heard when Negan moved in behind her. A shivering exhale fell from her throat at the closeness of him behind her. “Are you sure?”
“Yes, you have to be quick so the cakes don’t burn,” she reached around her to caress over the flesh of Negan’s bare hips when he pressed in closer to her.
“Yes ma’am,” Negan groaned, his bottom lip dragging at the side of her neck when he reached down to adjust her hips where he needed them. Lining his body up with hers, Negan thrust forward and moaned out when her warmth enveloped him snuggly. A mewl escaped her throat, making a chill run down his spine at the sound of it. Reaching for her hands, Negan urged them onto the shelves and he hooked his fingers with hers while his hips smacked up against her bottom repeatedly. “You feel so fucking good. Like you were made for me.”
“Negan,” she cried out his name, loving the way that his thick body filled her. The tip of his cock was hitting all the right areas inside of her having her shaking almost immediately picking up right where his fingers left off. Closing her eyes, she knew that Negan was capable of getting her to that euphoric high that she had never felt with anyone else before and she wasn’t going to deny it. In fact, her body was begging for it. Within moments he had her body tremoring. It loved having him inside of her, whispering in her ear driving her wild with desire.
“You have no idea what you do to me,” Negan grunted, his forehead lowering to press against her shoulder while his hips continued with their forward motions in trying to hit that mark they were not able to achieve the other day. “You take my breath away in every way imaginable.”
Dropping his right hand, Negan lowered it to allow his fingers to stroke over her clitoris in circular motions making her cry out. Faint moans were falling from Negan’s throat. They vibrated against the side of her neck causing a chill to run up and down her spine. Everything about Negan was sexy. Even the sounds he made during their intimate moments drove her crazy.
“I can’t just let you slip through my fingers,” Negan bucked up harder against her hearing the change in her cries alerting him to the fact that she was close to an orgasm. When he heard her breathing getting louder, his hips bounced up harder against her. “Do it. Give in baby.”
Turning her head, she met his lips in a wet kiss. Her lips parted to allow his tongue to brush against hers. Whimpering into his mouth, she dropped her left hand and reached around to urge his thrusts harder inside of her, “I’m almost there.”
Following through with his thrusts, Negan hummed in approval when she cried out. Her nails bit at his flesh and her body shook while he continued to pump inside of her, riding out her orgasm. The sounds she was making fueled him when his groans started to fill the air. Pulling his fingers from her body, Negan grabbed a tight hold of her hips and helped to bring her back against him eager to reach that release. Nipping at her jawline, Negan panted out her name. His deep raspy moans surrounded them causing her to shake just at the sound of them. Wincing out, Negan met her mouth in another desperate kiss keen to share this intimate moment together. It was something he wished they could drag out, but unfortunately had to make quick. When his abdomen started twitching and his body was throbbing inside of her, he could hear her cries intensifying at the sensation.
“Negan,” she whimpered out his name, eager to have him close when the pulsating of his cock inside of her let her know that he was coming. His moans vibrated against her lips and she reached up with her right hand to hook her fingers into his dark hair knowing that they should have never let it get to this place again, but it felt too good to say no. Negan’s nose nuzzled against hers, his loud breaths falling from his lips when his thrusts started to falter. “You are so perfect.”
“So are you,” Negan peppered tiny kisses against her lips, pulling hips away from her with a whimper when he pulled his length from her body. First Negan helped her pull the material of her pants back up her body before struggling to get his pants over his hips. Y/N reached for Negan’s shirt and turned him to push his back up against the shelves so she could tip up on her toes to meet Negan in a desperate kiss. Pulling his lips from hers, a cocky, arrogant smile expanded out over Negan’s features while her eyes were still dilated with lust. “See, you know it just as much as I do. It’s the two of us that are supposed to be together.”
“Negan…” she uttered knowing that in her heart she felt the same exact way, but there was so much more to this relationship than she could really explain.
“I know you’re thinking of something to say that will counter what I’m saying, but fuck…I see it in the way you look at me,” Negan drew his thumb over the curve of her jawline, keeping that close connection between the two of them. “You don’t have to keep lying to me to make this feel appropriate.”
“I don’t want to lie to you,” she stammered hating that it had to be like this. Why did she have to meet Sam first? It was a tense moment, so she said the first thing that came to her mind. “I might have to go to this restaurant before I leave the city to see if it has good food. I’ve experienced so much in this kitchen…”
“That’s an understatement,” Negan snickered, pushing his forehead to hers to cherish the moment they had together.
“Anyone in here?” the sound of a familiar voice filled the air making Y/N immediately stumble backwards when someone moved throughout the kitchen. Reaching for a few things, she shoved them into Negan’s arms before grabbing something for herself to carry. Heading out of the storage room, Y/N could see that Rick was looking down at the cooling pies and cakes. When he heard her, his blue eyes lifted and his eyebrows bounced. “There you are!”
“Mayor Grimes,” she spoke up in a breathless manner knowing that she had to pull it together and act like nothing was happening. Negan obviously needed a moment more than her before he followed her out of the storage room. “What are you doing here?”
“Sammy told me you were working somewhere with your dad while we were putting the final touches to the party set up,” Rick informed her, eyeing them over closely when a timer went off for Y/N to switch out the final batch. “That sure does smell good, doesn’t it?”
“It does,” Negan noticed the way that Y/N was still shaking and he tried to pull Rick’s attention from her toward him. “I was impressed myself when she started gathering all of this supplies. Girl knows what she is doing.”
“Yeah, you’ve been doing a lot of baking with people too recently I reckon,” Rick reminded Negan when Negan tipped his head to the side. When he remembered the whole cupcake thing, Negan nodded and cleared his throat. “It’s like you have a sudden knack for it.”
“I love to cook and bake,” Negan admitted, his voice lowering just enough knowing that he wasn’t really that close and open with Rick. “You’ll have to come over to dinner sometime Rick. I think you’d be surprised.”
“Maybe,” Rick took a moment to think about what Negan had offered before returning his attention to Y/N. “I know she’s been doing a lot of work. Sam is still at the building finishing things up, so I figured I would come check in on the both of you. See if you need some help.”
“I mean, that’s up to you. I’m finishing up these final cakes and pies, but I have to take them over to the building,” she informed Rick seeing him smile upon hearing her say that. “I was trying to make it special Mayor so I…”
“Just call me Rick,” Rick raised his hand in the air to silence her after she finished putting the last of the items in the oven. “Enough with all of this Mayor stuff. It feels a little…”
“Arrogant? Cocky? Over the top? Pretentious?” Negan filled in the blanks making Y/N snicker. Knowing that her legs were still weak, she went over to rest herself back against one of the prep tables to give herself time to gain her strength back.
“Something like that,” Rick huffed with a shrug of his shoulders, turning his attention back toward Y/N. “This is a lot of work you’ve put into things. I didn’t expect you would be doing this much. I assumed maybe just one dessert.”
“Well, I have a Cranberry Apple Relish in the fridge back there and there is Cranberry Christmas Cake along with Nantucket Pies baking right now,” Y/N went over everything that she was making and Rick raised his hands to clap at all she was doing. “I was trying to make enough for as many people as I could. Since this was last minute, it won’t be as finessed as I would like it to be, but I’m going to do my best.”
“Can I see the relish?” Rick requested and she nodded, giving herself a minute before pushing herself forward to head for the walk-in refrigerator behind them. When she was gone, Rick step forward making Negan tilt his head to the side with how close Rick had gotten to him. “I didn’t want to bring it to attention in front of Y/N, I didn’t want to embarrass you, but your zipper is down.”
“What?” Negan looked down to see that his zipper was still down and a hesitant laugh fell from his throat. Reaching down, Negan pulled it up and cleared his throat. Well that was an unfortunate miss from what happened after gathering himself together before walking out to see Rick there. “Thanks for that.”
“Mhmm…” Rick’s jaw flexed, gazing between Negan and Y/N when she headed back out of the fridge with a container of the relish for Rick to see. Taking off the lid, she grabbed a spoon and allowed him a taste to which Rick let out a pleased sound. “This is wonderful. If you want, I can take these and put them in the kitchen at the banquet hall. When you’re done with the cakes and pies, you and Negan can bring them there. I’ll tell Sammy to wait it out for you and then you can go home to get ready for the party. How’s that sound?”
“Sure,” she motioned Rick to follow her into the fridge to get the remainder of the containers. They all carried it out to Rick’s car and carefully set it in the back so it wouldn’t leak. “Thanks for doing this.”
“No, thank you! I appreciate you doing all of this last minute,” Rick gave her a bright grin, his big blue eyes staring between the two of them. “And thank you for helping her do this Negan. It’s mighty kind of you.”
Instead of saying anything, Negan just swallowed down hard and nodded. What was there to say? He would do anything for her, but if he said that to Rick, he was certain Rick would question it. Which Negan already thought Rick was awkward about them to begin with.
“Well, I’m going to head out. Can I hug you?” Rick questioned making her head tip to the side and she nodded. Rick stepped forward to give her a big hug before stepping back to look Negan over. “I’ll see you both in a few.”
“Later,” Negan’s eyebrows bounced up and they waved, watching Rick leave. When they headed back into the kitchen, Negan cleared his throat and closed the door behind him. “You don’t think he knows anything, do you?”
“I doubt it. I feel like he would have announced himself sooner if he did,” she cleared her throat uncomfortably while she checked on the items that were cooling. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he did though. There is always someone from this town interrupting the two of us.”
“We need to figure this all out Y/N,” Negan reached out for her to grab a hold of her wrist, his hazel eyes pleading for some kind of interaction between the two of them after what happened. “I know that the two of us are a complicated case, but we need to take the time to talk this out and figure out what we’re going to do.”
“What is it you want to do Negan?” she wondered finding herself at a loss as to what they were supposed to do. “I don’t think there is a choice where you get to have me while still remaining close to your son.”
“There has to be a way,” Negan countered while she went back to working on what was there to get them in boxes to take to the party. “I know that we’re busy right now and you have something that you want to get done, but tonight…after the party, we have to figure something out. Something that is going to fix this. Make it right.”
“Nothing will make it right Negan,” she doubted that there was something that would fix everything in this situation. “But if you want to talk tonight and we can figure something out that makes it so your relationship with Sam isn’t ruined, then yeah…we can try.”
“Fair enough,” he grumbled realizing that he didn’t know how his son would handle this whole thing. It was a very hard situation that started off as an accident. Obviously, they now knew the truth and they kept acting on their feelings. That would make things worse if they were honest to Sam. Negan knew how he would have felt if Lucille had fallen for his father, so he didn’t imagine a lot of good would come from it. But then again, Sam was better than he was.
Helping finish things up for Y/N, Negan carried things to the truck and made sure that they were packed away securely. Before they left, they cleaned up the kitchen and the area that they were in when Rick showed up. It was important for them to sanitize what they could because Negan was fairly certain that his friend would be angry if he found out what they had done. After everything was fixed up, they got in Negan’s truck and headed to the building where the party would be.
With big eyes, Y/N stared up at the building and she looked pale. Reaching across, Negan grabbed a tender hold of her hand and brought it up to his lips to press a kiss over the back of her hand. It was an attempt at calming her to make her feel comfortable.
“We’re going to figure all of this out, okay?” Negan stammered with an uneven breath knowing that it was going to be complicated at the end of everything, but he couldn’t let go of this. It may put a strain on his relationship with Sam, but they had to figure something out. It had been so long since he had felt this way for someone. “Together, tonight…we’ll figure everything out.”
With Negan’s fingers squeezing tightly around hers, she wanted to believe him. Inside she wanted to believe that she could face the world with Negan, but this was such a big deal. There was no easy way out of this. Carefully they carried the pies and the cakes into the banquet room of the building they were having the party. Sam was talking to a few people when they arrived and excitedly ran over to them when he saw them there.
It was hard saying goodbye to Negan once they had everything brought in. Sam on the ride home was talking to her extensively about everything she experienced today. Asking her multiple questions about her recipes, working with his dad, cooking at the kitchen, talking to Rick…Sam was just very chatty and truthfully? She wasn’t.
When Y/N went to take a shower, she locked the door behind her knowing that she wanted alone time. Maybe she took longer in the bathroom than she should have, but she was wondering now if she had all of the food already at the party if she could pull off being sick. She really didn’t want to go. At all. This was something she just wished she could have blown off. It was getting to be too much. All this faking and pretending to be something that she wasn’t was really wearing Y/N down.
When she got out of the shower, Sam was getting dressed up really nice for the party. Even nicer than he was for the play that they went to last night. Letting out an exhausted breath, she headed over toward the bed to lay down for a moment and Sam tipped his head to the side, “What are you doing baby? You have to get ready.”
“Sam, I really don’t feel well,” she tried to explain to him, lifting her hand to press it over her forehead to block out the light. “I felt bad this morning and then I just worked my ass off to get all of those things done for the party. I’m just not in much of a partying mood.”
“No, listen…” Sam stood up from where he was seated and moved beside the bed to lower down to his knees on the floor to stare up at her with his big hazel eyes. The green in his eyes was reflecting from the light that was on the nightstand by the bed drawing her to see the emphasis on how much he was pleading with her to go. “Today is a big night for the whole town. After tomorrow, if you don’t want to take part in any more of the festivities, I’ll give you a break, but tonight is a big one. One that I don’t think you’ll ever forget.”
“Sam,” she reached out to palm over the side of his chiseled jawline feeling the short stubble against her fingers when she did it. “I wish I had the energy you did, but I just haven’t been sleeping much. I know this means a lot to you, but this is going to be hard for me. Christmas is important to you, but for me it brings back certain memories. Memories I should honestly be more truthful with you about. Kind of like my brother.”
“Listen, I know that it’s been a rough holiday for you,” Sam interrupted her before she could continue on any further about her past. “But that’s why you are here with me right now, right? To make new memories. Please, for me, just get up and get dressed real nice. Make yourself feel good and I swear you will not regret going to this thing, okay?”
“Why are you so insistent upon this Sam? We met a lot of the people in town yesterday at the play,” she reminded him, but Sam shrugged his shoulders. There was a frown over his handsome features alerting her to the fact that he was upset at the idea of her staying home. “Sam, what’s the deal here?”
“There is a difference between meeting people in passing and meeting all of these people at a party where everyone has been relaxed,” Sam snorted, reaching out to brush his fingers through her hair to get her to look at him. “I’m going to be honest with you, okay? I was able to finagle myself into us sitting with Rick today. Aunt Emily is going to kill me because it’s just you, me, dad and a few other people at the table. Aunt Emily is at the next table over. I was trying to get Rick interested in my business. I thought maybe he could promote the product somehow or be a backer. That’s why this is so important. Rick really likes the whole family aspect and I was attempting to get him to be part of my business. So I need you there tonight.”
“Sam…” she let out a long shallow breath at his confession. God, now she had to do it. Cussing to herself, she lowered her head and nodded. “Yeah, okay. I’ll play nice.”
“Thank you,” Sam reached for her hand to place a delicate kiss at the back of her hand. Shaking in a supportive manner, he gave her a weak smile before heading out of the bedroom to allow her to gather herself.
It took longer for her to get ready because she really didn’t want to go to this thing. For too long she had been doing things for Sam and Sam alone. Sometimes she wished she would just finally live her life for herself. This party was for Sam. Not her. Her life was so fucked up right now that she just wanted to lay in bed and suffer amongst herself. Maybe it was immature, but it was the only way that she felt like she could cope.
At this point, she was getting pretty sick of this town and the people here. Not because they were bad, but her life was in shambles and it was just making it worse. This wasn’t very magical at all. When she finally was ready, she went downstairs where Sam and the other two were waiting for her. The car ride was very hard for her because the last thing she wanted to be doing was going to this thing. Even with Negan there, she couldn’t handle everything. Sleeping with Negan earlier made things so much more complicated.
By the time they got to the party, a lot of people were inside of the banquet hall. They were obviously late because of her, but this was something she was forcing herself to do anyways. Sam had a tight hold of her hand and he was pushing through the crowd politely to get where he wanted to be. Near the front of the hall, she could immediately spot Rick’s beautiful wife standing beside the table talking to her son. Michonne stood out in a crowd and she was absolutely stunning. That’s obviously the direction they were headed in.
When they approached the table, the sight of Negan in a black suit made her throat go dry. Originally, he was just sitting at the table with his head resting on his closed fist. There was nothing, but boredom flooding his features. But the moments he saw her, his eyebrows bounced up and a smile expanded over his handsome features. When they approached the table, Negan stood from the table and straightened out his suit jacket, “Hey.”
“Hey,” she muttered watching Sam hug a few people that were at the table. Looking around, she spotted Emily’s family behind them at the other table. There was a scowl over Emily’s face. It was bad for Y/N to be amused that she was pissed off that she didn’t fit at the table with Rick, but at least she was close enough to still interact with her family. “I gotta go see someone.”
“Oh?” Negan’s eyebrow arched up when she moved over toward the table where Emily’s family was. An amused breath fell from his throat when he watched Y/N lower down in beside Dean to talk to him. There was happiness that just flooded through Dean’s face upon seeing her. Dean had a crush on Y/N and it was cute that she was being so sweet to him. Y/N handed Dean something over and when she did it, Dean leaped forward to wrap his arms around her shoulders to hug her tightly. When she returned, Negan tilted his head to the side and licked over his lips. “What was that?”
“He told me he lost his Batman hot wheels the other day. I saw one at the mall when I went with Sam and picked it up. I figured maybe it would be nice to give him an early gift,” she informed Negan with a small nod, taking in a long shallow breath to see that Sam was over with Rick and his family talking. The way Negan was looking at her made her shrug feeling a bit on the spot. “What?”
“Why are you so fucking perfect?” Negan wondered, his eyes narrowing as she blushed in response. “You just get better and better with everything that you do.”
“Stop,” she reached out to shove at the center of Negan’s chest hearing him snort when she did it. Heading over to the table, she took a seat and Negan sat beside her while they waited. “Sam said I must come here tonight. I tried to get out of it.”
“And leave me here all alone?” Negan’s right eyebrow arched in curiosity, hating to hear that she didn’t originally want to come. “Now why would you do that?”
“Because I didn’t want to come. Life is getting…complicated,” she lifted her gaze to see that Rick and Sam were gone, but Alden was seated with Enid at the other end of the table talking to Rick’s son. “Hey? Where did Sam go?”
“I don’t know,” Alden shrugged his shoulders, holding his finger up in the air to spin it around in a circle. “I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”
“Gives you more time with me,” Negan looked around the banquet hall, his eyes gazing over her with awe. When he was about to talk to her more, Michonne had pulled her attention from him to talk to her about the desserts and side dish that she had made with him previously. While he didn’t mind her talking to other people, he really just wanted to take part in getting to figure out what they were going to do about them. It was a long discussion that led to other things, but Sam never came back from when he left. By the time that Michonne was finally done talking with Y/N because she had to leave the table, Negan looked around and could see that a group of people were dancing on the dance floor. “You want to dance with me?”
“Well, wouldn’t that be weird?” her face scrunched up knowing that it would be strange for people to see her dancing with Sam’s dad on the dancefloor. Especially since she was Sam’s girlfriend. “I think people would judge that.”
“You think too much about what other people think,” Negan corrected her, his face tipping to the side while she thought about the offer. “A dance is innocent. It’s not use having sex on the dancefloor Y/N. It just us boding and I think people would assume the same thing. I’m not much of a dancer…at all, but I don’t mind going out there with you.”
“Yeah, I guess,” she agreed to going with him, standing up from the chair that she was in. Negan reached for her hand in a delicate grasp before leading her over toward the dancefloor. With his fingers hooked around hers, she found herself wishing that this was how it was. That she was Negan’s and not Sam’s. Standing across from Negan at the corner of the dancefloor, it took a while for her to get accustomed to them dancing with each other. “I’m sorry, I’m not very good at this either.”
“So we can both look bad together then,” Negan grinned not really seeming to care about the rest of the people around them. “What do you think about the suit today? Better than yesterday?”
“Well, while I like them both,” she found herself staring at the standard black suit Negan was wearing with a white button down underneath and a black tie. “I think I liked the other one better. But either way you look amazing. The other one, you looked like you walked off the page of a damn magazine. You looked so good.”
“Hmmm…” Negan reached out to hook his arm around her waist to pull her in closer to him when a slower song was playing around them. “Lucille liked this one better. I was always a bigger fan of the other one myself. If I wore the other one to a party like this though, she would have had my ass so I wore them the way that I did.”
“I like you in your suits. It fits you even if you don’t like it,” she leaned forward, her head resting against the center of his chest wishing like hell things could have been so much easier than they were with them. “Negan…?”
“Yeah?” Negan muttered, his jaw nuzzling in over her head enjoying the closeness that they had together.
“Excuse me miss, but can I steal this dance?” a familiar voice muttered behind Y/N as she turned away from Negan letting out an excited squeal when she saw who it was. Immediately she wrapped her arms around the shoulders of the woman before her making Negan stand there in confusion. “It’s good to see you Boo!”
“Princess, what are you doing here?” Y/N pulled away to stare out at her friend with surprise, grasping to her friend’s arms. “I can’t believe you are here. How are you here?”
“Is that…?” Princess looked beyond Y/N to see that Negan was standing behind her with his hands shoved into his pockets. There was an innocent expression that showed Negan felt out of place in that moment. “Is that Daddy Big Dick? Boo, I see why you were hooked.”
“Daddy what?” Negan muttered, his eyes arching in curiosity when he heard a stranger say that about him. Princess looked down toward the center of Negan’s pants and Negan did the same wondering if there was something that he was missing.
“Not here,” Y/N immediately cut Princess off before waving Negan forward. “Negan, this is that friend I told you about. This is Princess. Princess, this is Negan. Sam’s…father.”
“She knows?” Negan muttered when Princess avoided the handshake that Negan went for to wrap her arms around Negan’s shoulders in a big hug. When Y/N nodded and her face flushed over, Negan cleared his throat. “I figured as much.”
“You had Carol, I needed Princess,” she excused the fact that he best friend knew what happened between the two of them. “This still doesn’t answer what you are doing here Princess. What’s going on here?”
“Well, Sam called me the other day. Told me that he wanted me here for Christmas for you. Considering Mercer and I don’t have our families, I figured why not come out here and see this town you talk so much about,” Princess looked around the area behind her to see that her boyfriend was talking to a few of the women by the drink table. Whistling, Princess immediately caught his attention and waved him on. “Y/N, you know this is Mercer and Negan…this is my boyfriend Mercer.”
“Goddamn, you are big,” Negan stammered looking up at the muscular stature of the man that stood before him. Reaching out, Negan shook Mercer’s hand hearing the man before him chuckling after he said that. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“Mercer is part of the military,” Princess eagerly told Negan and it made Negan bob his head while he glanced over the quiet man beside him. “Baby girl, your Sam set us up with a really nice rental home in the center of town and it was really nice of him. Were you missing me that much?”
“He didn’t even tell me he was doing that,” she noticed that Rick was walking just beyond them and she called out to Rick having him move over toward them. “Hey, have you seen Sam? He just disappeared a while ago and never came back.”
“Oh, you know. He’s around here somewhere,” Rick hesitantly laughed looking between the group that she was with. He adjusted his suit jacket and cleared his throat. “We were just talking not that long ago.”
“Yeah, I heard that Sam was trying to get you to promote his company,” she waved her hand in the air attempting to recall what Sam said before the party. “I assumed that’s where he went with you. I know that he was really excited to have you potentially join the company.”
“He wants me to what?” Rick’s eyes narrowed when she said that. It was obvious that he was confused about the whole ordeal. Rick had no idea what she was talking about. “I haven’t heard anything about his business.”
“But…” she tipped her head to the side hearing the music come to an abrupt stop making a few of the people cringe when a microphone squealed. Looking back over her shoulder, she could see on the stage was Sam standing there with a spotlight on him. “What the hell?”
“Hey there everyone,” Sam stammered with a hesitant laugh making Negan step in beside Y/N. They both were visibly confused with why Sam was up there. “I’m pretty sure that most of you know me and those of you that don’t, well…that’s my fault. My mother died two years ago and I kind of turned myself off from being around the people that I knew here. The people who made me who I was. The rest of you here know that I grew up here.”
“What is he doing?” Negan scoffed, looking over at Y/N as if she knew what the hell was going on. When she shrugged, Negan muttered something to himself under his breath.
“I know most of you are thinking, when are we eating and can we get this stupid guy off the stage,” Sam stammered in a laugh when the whole attention of the room was on him. “Truth is, I wanted to take today to make a moment special. My mother was always really big on Christmas. My whole family was. It’s been a while since I’ve had a really special Christmas without her here. So this was a moment I wanted to share with all of you here. You see, this town…it’s very magical during Christmas and I wanted the people I grew up with and helped raise me to be part of this. So…Y/N where are you?”
“Oh shit,” Princess cussed out when Y/N froze up immediately upon hearing Sam call out to her. “Boo, this isn’t good.”
Oh shit was right. What the fuck was Sam thinking? Swallowing down hard, she wanted to run in the opposite direction, but Sam searched the room looking for her, “There she is. That’s my beautiful girl. Come up here honey.”
Shaking her head, Sam let out an awe sound and looked around him, “I think she’s a little shy. How about everyone gives her a bit of cheer? See, she never really grew up with those that were very big on Christmas, so this whole era of things is very different for her. Come up here.”
When people clapped, she felt her heart hammering inside of her chest. The sensation of someone grabbing a hold of her wrist was felt and she saw that Emily had come to find her to lead her over toward the steps up toward the stage at the front. Right now, she wanted to die on the spot. This felt wrong in so many ways and she didn’t know how to respond to this whole thing. The light on the stage was hot. Everyone’s eyes were on her and she felt embarrassed.
Looking out into the crowd, she noticed that Negan and Princess had moved in closer to the stage when she went up there. Her attention was pulled back to Sam when he grabbed a hold of her hand to get her to look back to him, “See, I uhm…I wanted to bring you here for an important reason. It was very important to me at least. I wanted you to see that Christmas could be magical and happy where good things could happen. Since the moment you’ve walked into my life and the people at the coffee shop confused your name with mine, everything has been going right for me in my life. You’re my good luck charm and I don’t want to ever lose the way I feel when I’m with you. So…”
Sam gradually lowered down to his knee making her feel like she was going to faint right then and there. This was headed exactly to where she was afraid it was heading, “Y/N, will you do the honors of marrying me?”
There were prayers that this was a bad dream. That this was something she conjured up, but like everything else complicated that happened in this town, this was real. Very real and Y/N knew that everyone in the town was there to witness this. Now everything made sense. This was why Sam was so insistent that she came tonight. This was his plan all along. And now, she had absolutely no idea what she was going to do.

twd 11x08 (spoiler warning)
i watched this ep like 2 weeks ago but go busy. anyway, it was the finale for 11A and i do have thoughts
- first off, i liked the episode overall but for a mid season finale, it was disappointing. when will twd learn that bad cliffhangers are overused
- pope’s death was very underwhelming. theres still so much that hasn’t been answered. why was he so mad at maggie? what did frost tell him?
- i like leah becoming the new villain though. her and daryl is still a no for me but im excited to see her as a villain
- the cliffhanger sucked. even without the teaser for 11B we know that negan and maggie are going to survive. so theres no suspense, just frustration
- i also wish they had commonwealth in this ep. that storyline is far more interesting and we haven’t seen pamela milton yet
- ok so now for the positive parts: i liked the whisperers part. i was actually getting worried for our group with the bombs
- maggie carried the ep tbh. she looked so cool and her hot-wiring that car was just badass
- rosita’s fighting scene was also badass. although she did have a strange look on her face so im worried something happened. i dont think shes bit..but maybe she saw something? she told everyone to get away from the windows too
- im stressed for gracie. i think shes gonna die soon. on top of that, i just dont understand her motivations this episode. it made no sense to go down to find a weapon, even if she wanted to be like judith. kids in the apocalypse shouldnt be that stupid
- im glad connie and carol interacted. i hope carol gets around to apologising or at least talking to connie about the caves
overall, it was a good ep but i wish it was more intense for a mid-season finale. pope was a shit villain and the reapers were under utilised.
also without spoiling anything, leahs actress accidentally leaked a death of a minor character on her insta and i thought that was pretty funny lmao. i knew they were gonna die but i wonder what else is gonna be spoiled before Feb next year
also JUSTICE FOR ALDEN. hes still in the god damn church

Word Count: 7939

Song I Wrote To: “You Are The Reason (Duet Version)” by Calum Scott and Leona Lewis
Note: I’m Sorry. This is where we get some canon divergence. I will be changing a few things. For one, I don’t think Aaron went to the fair in the show, but he’s there in this story with Gracie. As we move into season 10, I have changed quite a bit. Thanks for sticking with me so far! ALL OFFICIAL DIALOG IS PROPERTY OF AMC
—————
It had been a long time since you had seen the walls and roads of The Kingdom.
King Ezekiel had just given his big speech as he welcomed everyone to the first community fair. Aaron had run off with Gracie as soon as you had arrived. The two of you had left Alexandria before Michonne and Judith were about to head out. Michonne assured you that she would be fine even though you offered to go with her as a security escort.
It was so strange to see so many of your old friends in one place. Tara was there with her people from Hilltop, Alexandrians milled about, and you even spotted Rachel smiling with her women from Oceanside.
If you weren’t feeling the dread from what was waiting for you beyond the safety of the walls, you would have been smiling along with her. However, you couldn’t. The entire ride to The Kingdom, you had been on edge and you thought your reins were going to shred beneath your fingers.
Aaron had told you to relax. He figured Alpha wouldn’t be stupid enough to do anything on the main road. While you wanted to believe that, the sheer fact that you didn’t run into any of the Whisperers made you even more nervous.
Still, you tried for Aaron, for Ezekiel and Carol, and especially for yourself. Aaron had been right, you needed a break. Negan’s tired eyes and concerned smile were still fresh in your mind as you walked among the stalls. He said that you would have a lot to talk about when you got back and he was right. Perhaps then, you would be able to finally get words out that weren’t drenched in frustration.
Till then, you needed to learn to breathe again.
Enid walked next to you, smiling as she too, took in the joys of the celebration around you. You noticed her in the crowd with Alden as soon as you arrived and she had just gravitated towards you, chatting away about the stall she was going to be doing.
“Did you hear what I said?” Enid asked you and you turned to her.
“Sorry, what?” you asked. She gave you a sheepish smile.
“I was just asking if you thought about setting something up?”
“A stall for the fair?”
“Is that such an odd idea?” she asked.
“I just don’t know what I would do,” you said with a shrug.
“You’re a great shot,” Enid reminded you.
“With a gun,” you said. “Not many of those around these days.”
“Yeah, I guess not,” she said with a shrug of her own. As the two of you headed for the main gate, Enid peeled off to go find Alden and you pushed on to meet Carol.
You had briefly said hello when you had arrived, but she was doing her “Queenly” duties and you hadn’t had much of a chance to speak to her. Now, she looked to be gearing up. Ezekiel was next to her along with Kelly, Magna, Luke, and Yumiko.
“What’s going on?” you asked as you approached.
“Henry isn’t back yet,” Carol explained.
“He’s not? But they left last night. They should have beat us here,” you said with a furrowed brow.
“That’s what I thought,” Carol said and you could see a worried look in her eyes. A look you were all too familiar with. A weight settled on your chest as your hand rested on the pommel of Paul’s sword. “I have to go look for them.”
“I’ll go with you,” you promised. While Carol was worried about her child, you were suddenly very concerned for the other teen in the group.
Where was Lydia?
“You don’t have to,” Yumiko said as she pointed over your shoulder. You all turned to see the large doors open. Running ahead of a horse-pulled carriage was a familiar dog with its tail up in the air.
Michonne and Judith sat in the front of the carriage as Daryl walked alongside it. In the back were Connie, Henry, and Lydia. Dog began making circles around everyone as Henry hobbled out of the makeshift carriage and towards his parents.
Carol didn’t hesitate to pull him into her arms. Connie was doing the same thing with her sister and the rest of her family. As Ezekiel grabbed onto his wife and son, you went for Daryl.
“Ya showed,” he observed as you hugged him.
“Aaron suggested I needed a break,” you said and then stepped back so Carol could launch herself at her best friend. Henry was still hugging his dad and that’s when you noticed Lydia watching the interaction with an awkward stance.
You moved immediately to her side and slipped your arm around her shoulders. “Hey, kid,” you greeted and she gave you a closed-mouth smile.
“Hi,” Lydia said.
“Ya alright?” you asked, checking her over in case she was hurt. Lydia just nodded and fiddled with the wooden pendant around her neck.
“I’m glad you’re here,” Lydia whispered and you squeezed her shoulder, pulling her tighter against you.
“I figured it would be boring without my winning personality,” you teased and she laughed a bit at that. She then became very stiff next to you. “What’s wrong?” you asked, but she was staring at something ahead. Looking up, you saw Tara staring at Lydia with venom in her eyes.
“What is she doing here?” Tara said and you placed Lydia behind you protectively. Henry then moved to her side and took hold of her hand. Tara watched the movement with anger.
Michonne, who had been speaking with Ezekiel and Carol as they got acquainted with Judith turned to the King and Queen.
“Gather the leaders,” Michonne said and then nodded at you as an invitation, “We need to talk.”
—————
“I know I haven't always seen eye-to-eye with everyone in this room,” Michonne began, “but I never stopped caring about any of you. I was just trying to protect my family and do right by my people. Alexandria's future is here. Together, with you. And we lost sight of that for a while. But... I'm here now. We're here now.”
Michonne then turned to you and gestured for you to speak. “Michonne, Gabriel, and I have all spoke with the other council members at the fair, and we all agree. Alexandria is willing to grant asylum to Lydia. She's one of us now. We hope the rest of you can join us in doing the same.”
“Since when do you speak for Alexandria?” Tara asked.
“Since I asked them to,” Michonne defended. “(Y/N) has taken up a role that I had never expected. They are more than capable of not only speaking for us but defending us as well.” Tara was quiet after that and you couldn’t help but feel pride swell in your chest at her words. You had been so worried about how Michonne would see you after everything that had been going on with Negan, but she was still the woman you had met all those years.
“Thank you,” Lydia spoke up from her spot between Judith and Henry in the theater seats. “I'll do whatever I can to earn my keep and pay you back.” You sent her a wink and she gave you her signature closed-lip smile.
“If her mother retaliates, it's gonna be against Hilltop, not Alexandria. I have to do right by my people. I thought we were on the same page,” Tara said.
“We were,” you said.
“Look, when she came to my gates,” Michonne said, “I asked her to run away. And when she didn't, I was angry.”
“Then you know why I'm not okay with this,” Tara said.
“I do. I also know why Rick didn't trust me when I showed up at the gates of the prison. And how people didn't trust you after seeing you on the other side of the Governor's firing line,” Michonne said.
“Or how Daryl nearly took my head off when he met me,” you added and Daryl raised a brow at you, remembering the moment.
“I was gonna kill you on sight when you washed up on our shore,” Rachel added.
“Okay, okay,” Tara said. “That’s fair.”
“Lydia didn’t choose where she came from,” you said. “None of us did, but she deserves the chance to be apart of something. She deserves a family who will care about her.”
“Second chances don’t come around often,” Rachel added, supporting you. You thought that statement was ironic considering who was constantly living in your mind.
“I left some of my best fighters at Hilltop, but if Daryl's right about these skin job numbers, it's not enough people,” Tara said.
“We should take a group to Hilltop to protect ‘em just in case,” Daryl said.
“I’ll take some from Kingdom,” added Carol.
“Oceanside can spare some,” Rachel said.
“Alexandria, too,” finished Gabriel.
“Nobody is going to fight this war alone,” you said. “The only reason we won the last one is that we were together. If Alpha does come after us, we can’t afford to be on different sides anymore.”
“So, we head out in the morning?” asked Rachel.
“Nah, we go today,” Daryl said. “Best not to give them any more time.” Michonne then spoke up again.
“In order to face this threat, the four communities have to present a united front. Which is why I'm proposing a mutual protection pact. An attack against one community is an attack against all of us. Together, we can make these people think twice before moving against the Hilltop,” Michonne said and you and Gabriel nodded, backing her up.
“The leadership of the Kingdom is very amenable to this idea,” Ezekiel said after looking to his Queen.
“Oceanside is in,” Rachel agreed.
“So, how do we seal it?” Tara asked. “Cause I’m not doin’ a blood oath with (Y/N).” You just smiled sweetly at her.
“I have just the thing…” Ezekiel said as he got up and walked into the wings of the stage. From a crate, he pulled out an old theater poster frame, and from it, he pulled the community charter.
“You’ve had that thing this whole time?” you asked, impressed.
“I’m a man of many surprises,” he said and you raised your hands in surrender.
“Fair enough.”
Ezekiel lay the charter on the table and one by one, the leaders of the communities signed. Rachel signed for Oceanside, Tara for Hilltop, Ezekiel and Carol for The Kingdom, and Gabriel for Alexandria. You looked at all the people in that room as you stood next to Daryl and you felt as something big had just happened.
Everything was finally coming together and your family was finally whole again.
--------
You and Judith began walking laps around the fair.
The young girl picked at a candy apple that she held in her hands. “Can I ask you something?” Judith asked, peering up at you from under her hat.
“Go for it,” you said.
“Did you talk to him before you left?” she asked.
“Subtle,” you said, flicking her hat.
“I’m just making sure you’re okay,” Judith said. “I don’t like it when you two fight.”
“When did you become such a matchmaker?” you asked.
“I’m not!” she said. “I can just see that he likes you a lot...maybe more than a lot.” You paused in your tracks.
“What do you know?” you asked, your eyes narrowed.
“Nothin’,” Judith said, but you weren’t buying it.
“Remember Jude, I watched you grow up. I can see through you,” you said.
“Nope, I’m a wall!” she announced as she bit into her apple again.
“Right,” you snorted.
“But are you okay?” she asked, this time her voice was a bit more serious. Well, as serious as a ten or eleven-year-old could be.
“Yeah, kid, I’m okay. I actually think I figured it all out,” you said. Which was true, you had figured it out, but now you were just trying to get the courage to do something about it. All in all, no matter how angry you were with him or how upset, what you felt for Negan was bigger than all of it.
“Good,” she said with a smile. As the two of you walked, you began to feel a chill in the air. You noticed Lydia and Henry up ahead walking hand in hand and as your breath became visible before you, you shivered. “I think a storm is coming,” Judith said.
“Yeah?”
“I can feel it,” she said.
“Where’d you learn that trick?”
“From Mom who learned it from Uncle Daryl,” Judith said. You couldn’t help but smile at her then.
“Smart,” you said and she laughed before grabbing your hand and dragging you further into the fray, her candy apple swinging alongside her.
---------
Back in Alexandria, Negan lay on the floor of his cell as he tossed a ball in his hands.
When the door to the cell opened, he had no idea who it could be and because he knew it wasn’t you, he didn’t care. However, when he heard the person clear their throat, he did sit up.
“What do I owe this pleasure?” he asked. Laura stepped further into the light and in her hands was a new winter coat.
“there’s a storm on the way,” she said. “I was asked to give you this.” Negan stood as she passed it through the bars.
“Thanks, Laura,” he said and she nodded. Negan hadn’t spoken to his former lieutenant since the fall of the Sanctuary, at least no more than a few words here and there.
“I’m sorry,” Laura suddenly said. Negan was confused as he braced a hand on the bars.
“What are you apologizing for? Isn’t that my job?” he asked.
“I’m sorry that your life ended up like...this,” she said, but Negan was already shaking his head.
“Don’t apologize for the shit that I did,” he said. “You know better than anyone that what I was doin’ was eventually gonna get me dead or locked up. I guess I can just be glad that Rick didn’t cut any further than he did.” Laura nodded, hearing him.
“Still, you were always fair to me and kind. I also wanted to thank you. While being a Savior wasn’t the most moral of things, if you hadn’t found me all those years ago and brought me to the Sanctuary, I’d be dead.”
“Silver lining, then?” he offered.
“A small one,” Laura said. Negan smiled softly at that.
“I’m proud of you, Kid. You managed to make a new life, one that I should have tried to give you years ago. Don’t screw it up.”
“I won’t if you won’t,” she said and then offered her fist to him. He bumped it with his own.
“I’ll take that deal,” Negan said. Laura smiled and then went to leave, but right before she left, she turned one last time.
“Oh and if you hurt (Y/N), I’ll castrate you with a rusty spoon,” she said with a grin before leaving. Negan stared after her and he was suddenly very aware of everything on his body.
“Fucking hell.”
-------
Eventually, it was time to head to Hilltop.
When you told Aaron you were going to help, he wasn’t surprised. “I knew you couldn’t sit still for long,” he had said. “Just be careful.”
You promised that you would and headed to the main gate to prepare to leave. Daryl was getting his bike off the trailer when you found him. You were tightening your sword’s scabbard when he looked up.
“Ready to go?” you asked.
“Yeah,” he said. “Lydia is gonna stay here and then Aaron and Gabriel will bring her to Alexandria.”
“Sounds good,” you said.
“Mmhmm,” he said. “Are you in any rush to get back there?”
“You and Judith spend too much time together,” you said with a knowing look.
“So, you and Negan…”
“We really don’t need to talk about it, D,” you said.
“Are ya sure?”
“I’m so over talking about it,” you admitted. “I just gotta do something.”
“When ya do, I don’t need the details,” he snarked.
“Asshole,” you muttered and he just smirked. “Where ya gonna go after we get to Hilltop? I heard Ezekiel offering you to make Kingdom your home.”
“Not sure if this place is gonna last much longer,” he said with a sigh.
“You know that Alexandria is always going to be your home, right? No matter how long it’s been.”
“I know,” he said.
“We can’t keep running, Daryl. Come home,” you said. He was quiet for a moment before he dropped his head.
“Alright,” he agreed, “but after we handle Hilltop.”
“Okay.”
Soon everyone was saying goodbye and assuring that they would all be safe. Tara was sending her people out first before following after. Ezekiel was trying to get her to stay for the rest of the fair, but she said that she needed to get home. So, Dianne was going to lead her soldiers home.
As you were securing Daryl’s bow to his bike, you noticed him with Dog as he spoke to Connie. It was subtle, but there was something about his body language that told you a lot. Perhaps Connie was more than just a friend. You watched on as he awkwardly waved to her and when he turned back to you, his eyes narrowed.
“Shut up,” he said as he went up to you.
“I didn’t say anything,” you said.
“Nah, but you were thinking it. I can see it on your face,” he said.
“She’s pretty,” you said.
“And yer annoyin’,” he countered.
“Hey, who am I to judge?” you said with your hands raised.
“Yeah, exactly.” With a roll of your eyes, you climbed onto the back of Daryl’s bike as he took the spot in front. Michonne waved to Judith as you and the others pulled out of Kingdom. You hadn’t seen Lydia before you left, but Ezekiel said that he would keep an eye on her for you.
It was odd that you had essentially become her advocate with Daryl as her main protector. You never imagined you would essentially become a parent to a messed up teen, but here you were.
Yumiko and Magna rode behind you, their weapons at the ready and you kept your head on a swivel as you all move through the woods. Walkers were around, but only a few at a time and were easily taken out by the archers. Still, any time one would make itself known, you could feel Daryl tense in front of you. It was going to be a long night.
You were well into the ride when you came across three men who flagged you down.
Carol seemed to know them as she walked up to meet them. “What’s wrong, Ozzy?” she asked.
“Ya gotta see this, Boss,” the man, Ozzy, said. He seemed very concerned as he gestured you all forward. Daryl shouldered his bow as he followed and you and Michonne were right behind him, both of your hands on your swords.
The Highway Men, as Carol referred to them, had been acting as security and watchers for The Kingdom. They were good trackers, fighters, and were the newest addition to the community. What they had found on their patrol, worried you a lot.
It looked as if a pack of wild animals had attacked a caravan. “We were clearing the roads. Spotted tracks leading here,” Ozzy said.
“It's from Hilltop,” Yumiko said, holding up one of the wooden pendants that were crafted there. The same one that Lydia wore around her neck.
“Walkers didn’t do this,” you said with a glance to Daryl “This was people.”
“Skins?” Michonne asked and then looked to the Highway Men. “You know about them?”
“We got the download,” Ozzy confirmed. “We would have seen any people out here with my patrols, but not if they were covered in Skins.”
“Fantastic,” you said, your nerves growing.
“(Y/N),” Daryl called, “look at this.” You met him down by the broken carriage and realized what he was seeing.
“They fought back,” you said. “They were dragged away. That way,” you said with a point.
“Come on,” Daryl said.
“We can’t all go,” Dianne said. “If this was the Whisperers, then they would have followed this from Hilltop. We need to get back.”
“Michonne and I will go with (Y/N) and Daryl,” Carol said. “Rest of you ride for Hilltop.”
“We can continue our patrols around here,” Ozzy said and Carol nodded.
“Alright,” said Michonne. “We’ll see if we can find them and bring them home.” You nodded to Michonne and then everyone was shaking hands and promising to meet up later. Yumiko then joined you, offering her bow.
“Stay close and if you see Walkers, don’t hesitate. They could be Whisperers,” you said.
“And if they are,” Michonne said, “go for the kill.”
—————
“I really don’t like this,” you said as you walked next to Yumiko. Carol and Daryl were in the front while Michonne was at the back, her Katana in her hand.
“Neither do I,” Yumiko said as she gripped her bow tighter. “Do you people do this a lot?”
“Only when it’s necessary,” you said. “We try not to get involved, but we usually end up doing just that.”
“I don’t know how you do it,” she said.
“We do it because nobody else will.”
“And your families, are they okay with this?”
“My family is right in front of me,” you said. “We’ve been fighting since day one, I don’t think any of that is going to change.”
“Then I’m glad that I have you on my side,” Yumiko said and you gave her a half-smile.
“Me too.”
Daryl was tracking the Hilltop members that were attacked. You kept back, but mirrored his steps, just in case he missed anything. He never did, but it was a force of habit. All you could think about was Alpha’s face and every shadow in the woods was keeping you on edge.
“Don’t give her an inch…” Negan had said. He had wanted you to be strong and you weren’t going to let him down. Whatever happened when you saw him again, it didn’t matter. You just needed to see his face again. That was what kept you going.
You had to get home to Negan.
“Magna is worried about me,” Yumiko said, trying to change the mood. You nodded, grateful for the distraction.
“That’s actually a good thing. It means she cares about you,” you said.
“Do you have one? A Magna?” Yumiko asked.
“Sort of,” you said with a sigh. “It’s complicated.”
“Word of advice,” Yumiko said. “Uncomplicate it because if you are lucky to have them, you better keep them.”
“Thanks, Yumiko,” you said and she knocked your shoulder with her own.
As you walked, Michonne and you both took down Walkers with your blades, taking their heads off their shoulders. It took you a few to get the hang of the new weapon, but it was beginning to feel natural. You would definitely need to do some proper training with Michonne when you got home though.
It was after dusk when Daryl told everyone to halt. Then, from out of the trees came Walkers that you instantly recognized.
“They’re from Hilltop!” you said as you went for the first one. In a long arc, you swung your sword at the Dead man who came at you. His head was cut from his body and you pierced the brain as it rolled to your feet.
From there on, more and more Dead converged as the sun set and darkness wrapped around the five of you. “I can’t see,” Yumiko said.
“Stay together!” Daryl shouted, placing you at his back as you and Michonne leveled your blades. The archers, all three of them, let go of their bows and drew their knives. Daryl held two blades in each of his hands as he prepared to strike.
“Watch their hands!” Michonne yelled as the Walkers fell upon you. You could feel the blood from the other Dead splashing on the back of your neck as you fought your own Walkers.
Your arms stung from the exertion, but you couldn’t slow down. Fear settled into your bones as you fought, but Negan’s voice returned to you.
“You are stronger than them and the only way they win is if you let them,” he had said and with those words being screamed in your head, you swung again, feeling your adrenaline spike.
“Back to the road!” Daryl yelled and everyone began running. “This way,” he grunted reaching for you, but before you could find him in the dark, the sound of a gun cocking had everyone freezing in their steps.
“Drop them,” a horrific whisper said and if you hadn't already been scared, that sound chilled you to your soul. More and more whispers came from around you and your grip loosened on your sword. “I won’t ask twice.”
“Beta…” Daryl sneered and you felt your heart fall into your heart. Beta was alive and you could feel the anger that echoed around him. One by one you all dropped your weapons and the Skins picked them up. Seeing the dirty hands of a Whisperer touch Paul’s sword made you sick.
“You just had to give me the girl,” Beta whispered. “No one else had to die. Now that deal...is done.” His words washed over you and no matter how many times you tried to focus on Negan’s face or his voice, all you heard was Beta’s horrifying voice.
“You touch the girl and I’ll tear your throat out with my teeth,” you snarled. Beta walked up to you and grabbed you by the throat, angling your face to meet his. You stared back with unwavering disgust.
“You make veiled threats,” he said.
“Come a little closer and we’ll see how veiled they are,” you said, pushing in closer. Beta shoved you back and you stumbled into Carol who quickly righted you.
“Take them,” Beta ordered and his people moved in.
One by one, you were tied up. The Skins tied your hands behind your back and pressed blades to your backs, forcing you to walk ahead, leading you somewhere. Your heart was trying to leap from your chest, but you took deep breaths as you tried to keep a level head.
You could still smell the rot that revolved around Beta and it made your stomach churn. You were forced to walk behind Yumiko whose hands were moving. In the moonlight, you could make out some of the shapes and realized she was signing.
“Stay calm,” she was signing over and over again. You were very grateful then that you knew ASL well enough to understand her.
You walked for a bit longer before you reached a clearing and suddenly, you were seven years younger. You half expected for headlights to light up the surrounding area. Daryl and Michonne must have felt it too as they were tense as well.
However, this time, Negan would not be there to just kill two of you. Beta could slaughter all of you for no reason and then turn his sights on Kingdom, Alexandria, and then Hilltop and Oceanside. This was it, you thought, you were going to die.
The Whisperers pushed you into a semicircle, making sure your hands were still secured. You were between Daryl and Michonne and tried to focus on their breathing, but it was difficult. Even if they were thinking of an escape plan, nobody could voice it and nobody was coming to save you.
From the darkness, Alpha finally made herself known. She crept through the night like a predator stalking her prey. Expect, Alpha didn’t kill for food, she killed for sport.
“You ain’t getting her back,” Daryl said, facing down the Matron of the pack.
“You think this is about my daughter?” Alpha asked, tilting her head. “I ran into some trouble on the road,” she said, wiping blood from the knife in her hands on her pants. You struggled against your bonds, wanting to rip her eyes out with your nails. “It was unavoidable.”
“Bullshit,” you shot, but Alpha ignored you.
“Do you like my new camp?” she asked. “My people like to keep moving, keep roaming.”
“We’ve granted Lydia asylum,” you said. “You try to take her and we will fight back.”
“What is your name?” Alpha asked, stopping in front of you.
“...(Y/N),” you said.
“Do they speak for you?” Alpha asked the others.
“We speak for each other,” Daryl countered. Alpha sniffed, unaffected by Daryl’s attempt at camaraderie. Instead, she continued to pace in front of the five of you.
“My daughter isn’t a concern anymore. She was weak, she never lived up to expectations.”
“Was?” you asked as the worst-case scenario entered your mind. “What did you do to her!” Still, Alpha ignored you.
“To be clear,” she said, “your group is in no position to threaten me. That is a habit that needs to be broken.”
“Oh, I’ll break something,” you threatened and Alpha merely smiled at you as if you were some child she was humoring. Turning her attention back to Daryl she pointed at him.
“Come with me,” Alpha said. “Just you.” Beta cut Daryl’s bonds and then pushed him forward. You struggled to go after him, but you couldn’t move.
Daryl glanced back at you once more before following Alpha into the darkness of the trees.
-------
Daryl was gone for a while, and with every minute that ticked by, you grew more fearful that his body was somewhere being torn apart by the Dead.
You, Michonne, Carol, and Yumiko were sitting together by a fallen tree as you waited to be released. Beta was across from the four of you, watching the woods, waiting for his orders.
You began to think about Rick. What would he do right now? What would he say? You also began to think about the conversation you had once had with Negan about evil and humanity.
Alpha and Beta were evil and there was no doubt about it. Evil was around you and you could not find a shred of light to hold onto. Rick had wanted to build a new world, but if this is what it was going to look like, you didn’t want it.
“This is not how I’m dying,” you whispered.
“Nobody is going to die,” Michonne said. “I don’t think Alpha wants to kill us.”
“She said ‘no one else had to die’, meaning she already killed those Hilltop people and now she’s going to keep going. With us.”
“Just try to stay calm.”
“This is me calm. I’m calm and I’m pissed.”
“We’re going to get out of this,” Carol said who hadn’t taken her eyes off of Beta since she sat down.
“I left too much shit unfinished,” you admitted, unable to stop yourself.
“I know,” Michonne said and there was a bit of pity in the tone of her voice. “You know, I actually wish for his psycho ass right about now,” Michonne said and you couldn’t argue with that.
“Don’t we all,” you agreed.
“Who?” Carol asked and Michonne hesitated, but you just shrugged.
“Negan,” Michonne said.
“Who’s that?” Yumiko asked.
“Asshole who we have locked up back home,” said Michonne.
“You think he could take on Beta?” Carol asked, but you shook your head.
“I don’t think a bulldozer could take on Beta,” you said with a glare in the man’s direction.
“Negan would be a good distraction,” Michonne figured and then stopped speaking as she saw the look in your eyes. “Or not.” Carol looked at you in confusion.
You couldn’t imagine Negan going up against someone like Beta. Everyone you had seen him fight, he had been the bigger one. He had been the one in charge and the one with the edge. Negan fighting Beta would have been like a Mustang charging a Semi Truck. That was not something you wanted to see.
“Am I missing something?” Carol asked.
“No,” you and Michonne said at the same time. Carol narrowed her eyes but didn’t push it any further. Instead, you all sat there in silence as you waited for the fate you were sure you were about to meet.
You didn’t know how much time had passed when the sun began to rise again. Nobody spoke and nobody moved as the Whisperers began to disperse. Beta then gestured to you and your companions.
Slowly, his people approached and cut your bonds. Nobody dared to move as Beta watched over you. He then ordered his people to hand back your weapons.
“Go West,” he sneered. “You’ll find your man.”
“Come on,” Michonne said, moving Carol in front of her as Yumiko followed. You hesitated, glaring at Beta who leveled his knife at you in something that felt like a promise. Almost as if he was saying that the next time he saw you, he was going to kill you. In your mind, you made the same promise.
The sun rose quickly as you hiked through the woods, following Beta’s orders. “Something feels wrong,” you said as you fastened your sword to your side. Carol was holding Daryl’s bow and blades as you walked.
“We got out, that’s all that matters,” Michonne said, but you had a feeling something was very wrong.
It didn’t take long for you to find Daryl.
He seemed unharmed, but you could tell he was angry. Carol reached him first, handing him his bow and kissing him on the cheek. Michonne hugged him too and Yumiko clapped him on the shoulder. When he reached you, you hugged him tightly.
“I thought she was going to kill you,” you said.
“Nah, not yet,” he said and then nodded his head in another direction. “This way.”
You all followed Daryl who seemed to be on a mission. Whatever Alpha had told him had him set on a path and you were willing to go with him no matter what.
You walked until the sun was finally above you and then, Daryl picked up his speed. “Daryl?” you called, but he just kept running. Eventually, you saw what he was running towards. “Oh my god.”
“Siddiq!” Michonne yelled as she ran up the hill towards the Doctor who was leaning against a dead tree and behind him, was another.
“Enid!” you yelled as you saw her struggling as well. You slid to her side, using one of Daryl’s knife that he tossed to you to cut her bonds. As soon as she was free, she nearly crawled to you, gripping you tight. Enid was shaking and so was Siddiq who held onto Michonne. “Shh, it’s okay,” you assured her.
“What happened?” Michonne asked, but both of them could barely speak.
“I… I…,” Siddiq stuttered out as Enid pointed up the hill with tears in her eyes. Slowly, you pulled Enid into you and began the trek up the hill.
“No…” you whispered in horror as you saw what was ahead. It was too far to make out details, but the smell of fresh and Dead blood wafted towards you. Enid was trembling in your arms as tears fell down her face.
Nobody spoke as you crested the hill, but nobody needed to as you got closer. As soon as it became apparent what was before you, Yumiko fell to her knees and Michonne gasped in pain.
At the top of the hill were nine pikes and on each one, was the head of someone you knew.
You started at the beginning, your bones as cold as ice as milky white eyes stared at you. They hadn’t killed the brain and as you looked at the first pike, Ozzy, the Highway Man, was staring at you with vacant eyes and a gaping mouth. Next to him was Alek, and then, DJ.
Your heart sank as you saw who was next. Frankie, one of Negan’s former wives and a spitfire of a woman. Her red hair blew in the wind as blood and gore dripped from the flesh at the base of her severed neck.
Tammy was next and Enid cried harder as she saw the older woman. A woman you knew who had taken care of Enid at Hilltop. You struggled to keep the young woman upright, but it was difficult as you nearly collapsed when you saw the next two.
Rodney and Addy.
The teens that you knew from Hilltop were gasping with their breathless mouths as their gray skin dulled in the sunlight, but who was next made you crash to the ground.
“No!” you screamed as you saw Tara’s dark hair blowing in the wind.
Enid fell next to you as the woman who she saw as a sister stared at her with empty eyes. Sobs echoed out of you as you stared at her, but that wasn’t compared to Daryl who immediately began yelling.
“No, No!” he yelled as he ran for Carol “Just look at me, just look at me,” he said as he held onto his best friend. That’s when you finally looked at the final pike and everything around you broke.
It was Henry.
Enid was leaning all of her weight onto you just as Siddiq was doing to Michonne. Carol had fallen into Daryl and Yumiko was crying as she beheld the horror.
Alpha had done this. She had taken these people from you, but left two alive as witnesses. She had killed children, friends, leaders, and left you feeling empty.
You had been through so much, lost so much, and, yet this felt as if someone had torn your soul from your body. As the wind continued to blow, all you could hear were Enid’s screams and Carol’s sobs as yet another child was stolen from her.
---------
“We were there,” Siddiq began as he stood on the stage in The Kingdom.
You stood next to Daryl and Lydia was in front of you both as you listened. Enid was across from you in the protective arms of Alden who hadn’t let her go since you returned.
“Enid and I were taken with the others. And I saw... We were supposed to die with them and I was ready to.” Siddiq went on, speaking for both him and Enid considering she could barely say a word. Aaron was sure she was in shock.
Siddiq went on, “Then, Alpha whispered in our faces as she knelt before us, ‘Tell them’, she said… she then said that two sets of eyes were better than one. Then, something hit me, and everything went black.”
Lydia leaned back into you and you gripped her tight. You noticed that Daryl was holding onto the other side of her. You knew that you needed to protect her now more than ever.
“And when I woke up, it was just the two of us,” Siddiq said with a look to Enid who stared back with red-rimmed eyes. “What happened was evil. It was evil. And I think she left us alive to tell you that story. To scare you and to drive us all apart again. But I want to tell you a different story.” Siddiq then looked at you and you could see that he was struggling. You gave him a nod of encouragement.
“See,” he went on, “before the end... Ozzy, Alek, and DJ found us and they gave us an opening. And everyone fought back. They fought like hell. And what they did was more than brave. 'Cause they defended each other. And they sacrificed for each other... And some of them... they didn't even know each other, but they still fought like they did. Like they were family. 'Till the very end.”
Tears were flowing from his eyes and your own, but you tried to put on a brave face for him, for Enid.
“And in the end, they... Their time was cut short, but ours keeps going. So we have to keep going. For them and for all of us. We need to honor them. We need to honor them, and we need to remember these friends, our family, died as heroes. That's the story that I want to tell you. That's the story that I want us all to remember.”
In the quiet of the fair as Ezekiel and Carol cried in silence, you swore that you would remember and when it came down to it, you would avenge them.
—————
Once the pikes were taken care of and the tears stopped, for the time being, people began to move out.
However, as winter moved in, The Kingdom was no longer capable to house the members of the community. They would need to move and Michonne was going to stay to help them do that.
While you wanted nothing more to help, you needed to be somewhere else, with someone else. As you stood by the main building of The Kingdom’s square, Michonne approached you.
“There’s a storm coming,” she said quietly, her voice a bit hoarse from crying. You were sure that yours sounded the same.
“I know.”
“We need to move these people to Hilltop and Alexandria,” she said and you nodded in agreement. “(Y/N),” she said, “can you get her home, please?”
Turning to look at her, you were surprised to hear the desperation in her tone. “Michonne?” you asked.
“Please, get Judith home and protect her. Protect my daughter,” she said, once again on the verge of tears. You pulled her into your arms and clutched at your friend. You hadn’t been the closest with Michonne since she arrived at the gates of the prison, but you had a feeling that was about to change.
When you pulled back, you held her by the shoulders and looked her in the eyes. “I will,” you said. “I will protect her with my life.”
“They were brave,” Michonne whispered and you knew who she meant.
“Yes, they were,” you agreed. “And we will not let their deaths be in vain.” Michonne nodded, gripping your arms.
“Go to him,” she said.
“Michonne…”
“No, you listen to me,” she said as it was her turn to be serious. “I do not care what people think about him. Don’t worry about that. He could have lost you and as much as I have my demons when it comes to Negan, you have to go. Trust me when I say that Death does not discriminate when it comes to the man someone loves. Even if that man is...unconventional.”
“But…”
“No,” she cut you off. “Take Judith and go home. Stop overthinking it, (Y/N). You said you had left things unfinished, right?”
“Right.”
“Then, finish them.”
—————-
The ride to Alexandria was very different than the departure.
You rode on a horse alongside the carriage that held Gabriel, Aaron, Gracie, Judith, Eugene, and others. Nobody spoke and nobody relaxed until the comforting gates of Alexandria were in view.
For the kids’ sake you put on a brave face, but as soon as your horse came to a stop and the gates slid closed, you could barely keep it together. “Scott!” you called as you dismounted. He ran up to you as you helped Judith down from the makeshift carriage. “Take her,” you begged the man. He nodded as he gathered his bag. You then turned to Judith. “You need to go to your brother,” you said.
“What?” she asked.
“Go find RJ and give him the biggest hug he can handle, okay?” Judith nodded at your words.
“Are you going to be okay?”
“Not for a while,” you admitted, and then she was wrapping her small arms around you and you let a tear slide down your cheek. “I’m going to come over later and we’ll have dinner, okay?”
“Okay,” she whispered and with a final squeeze, you let her go as she ran after Scott who was waiting for her. Ignoring Aaron, Eugene, and the others, you turned your back on the stables and began to run.
You didn’t slow as you ran towards the main street. Your boots slid on the slick spots of ice that littered the ground, but you kept going. Stopping before the Grimes house, you searched your pockets for your key ring.
You couldn’t get your hands to stop shaking as you found the right one and jogged down the steps towards the jail. Slipping the key in the lock, you shoved the door open.
The loud noise alerted Negan to your presence. He was laying on his cot, but when he saw the tears that flowed down your cheeks and coated your collar, he launched to his feet.
“(Y/N)?” he asked, staring at you in shock. You kept moving, switching the key on the ring and inserting it into the lock of the cell itself. You wrenched it open and faced him, taking him all in. “What happened?” he asked, staring at you with concern.
You didn’t answer him right away. Instead, you took your time to memorize his face, the set of his jaw, how his shoulders were settled on his torso, and especially that wonderful light that was in his eyes. You choked back another sob as you moved into his space.
“(Y/N)?” Negan asked you again. Reaching up, you placed your hands on his face, feeling the warmth of life beneath his skin. With a deep breath, you got your voice back.
“Don’t make me lose you, too,” you whispered and then, you gripped him by the back of his neck and pulled his lips to yours.
Negan immediately wrapped his arms around you, holding you closer to him as he kissed you back without hesitation. It was as if a dam broke inside you as light burst behind your eyes. Negan kissed you tenderly, but it was full of urgency as well.
Pulling yourself tighter against him, you were worried that he would be pulled away at any moment. He didn’t seem to be ready to let go either as he lifted you up, tilting his head back to get a better angle.
Your tears dripped down onto his face, wetting the stubble on his jaw, but he didn’t care. Negan didn’t care about anything else at that moment. All he cared about was you in his arms as he finally got to show much you meant to him.
When you pulled back to get some air, he set you down. Negan looked at you in awe and while you knew you had to explain what had happened, there was something you had to say first. Something that you had felt for a long time.
“I love you, Negan,” you said, your voice soft as it mingled with his own breath. He looked in your eyes and you watched as the words resonated with him. His eyes grew softer and all the tension in his body dissolved. Negan reached up and placed his hand against your face.
“I love you, too,” he said and then pulled your lips back to his.
You clutched at the man in your arms, your new reason for living. You knew that war was finally coming and that Death was not done with any of you yet, but in that small cell, in the arms of the man you loved, you let it all become whispers on the wind as the first snowflakes began to fall.

Just spamming my thoughts on the episode so sorry I should have just done 1 post to encompass it all but I am disorganized so too bad
Gabe redeemed himself (slightly) bc of minor screen time (lol) and the fact that he killed the priest partly bc of jealousy but also partly bc of his need to protect His Flock (nice bc when we first met him he threw his flock to the wolves) (also nice bc he tried to pull that same shit at first at alexandria) and also the shit with the sniper rifle was cool as shit. And also bc he was like "jfc" when the commonwealth arrived lol
Judith and gracie were so cute
V odd that it was like "the walls are falling and the windmill is burning" "Oh good the walls are no longer falling and the windmill is no longer burning" but whatever idrc about that so I guess it's fine?
Glad everybody is reunited and that commonwealth was already introduced
I also was irritated to see the time jump but at least we know it's not a six years later bullshit retcon thing. More like a teaser trailer for the rest of 11b
Glad that all the reapers besides leah are dead and also alden bc that means that there's more room for the 10 new commonwealth characters I'm sure we'll meet
Thought rosita and gabes reunion was odd and underwhelming. I'm rly wondering if she got bitten
I'm sure we'll meet negan again. Still hoping he'll sacrifice himself for hershel jr but I'm finding it unlikely. Unless he gets bitten. I'd even settle for sacrificing himself for Lydia tbh
Rly rly glad Leah is still alive bc it leaves a door open for a carol/Leah interaction
Already talked about aaron/Lydia and negan/Lydia feelings
Actually looking forward to commonwealth bc I think it's interesting for them to do it this way instead of another kidnapping and drawn out war. 11b is set up to be v good. I wonder if caryl is like "moving to commonwealth is the way that we stop all the fighting" and Maggie is like "I don't trust them and I want to Protect My Family and Make It Work For Aldens Memory" and that's why she stays idk
My guess is we will never see elijah again since his arc was short and underdeveloped and unsuccessfully completed lol

thinking about how while he was ‘with’ the saviors,  alden knew they were bad people and knew that they weren’t the good guys but he really didn’t know what kind of people rick & co. were.   his first impression of them was that they came into an outpost and killed everyone in their sleep.  it is so reasonable for him to assume they’re bad people too.
he didn’t go on savior missions because he wasn’t a soldier;  he was a worker that was always tasked to stay back and build up defenses at their outposts or the factory.  he didn’t often see the way the saviors interacted with these other communities;  he really only heard exaggerated stories and whispers about it.  staying with the saviors had always been about his own survivor’s move,  not about believing in their policies or what they did  ---  but it’s so reasonable for him to assume that this rival group coming to kill them in their sleep is worse than the saviors.  he just has no idea what got them to that point,  because he hadn’t even seen or been to those other communities to understand what life was like there.  he thought the factory was the best option out there.  if he had known sooner,  he wouldn’t have stayed there.
which is why he was the one to offer building a moat around their outpost to ensure that they were never attacked like that again.  if he’s with the saviors because it’s the best way to ensure his own safety,  then he wants to make sure they’re safe.  but the longer the war goes on,  the more he starts to understand  that he is missing pieces in the story.  he only hears exaggerated stories and whispers about the missions that they’re on;  some people are honest,  some people are overdramatic,  some people are just scared.  and it’s the latter who give him insight on what’s really going on.  the night in the forest is something he’s only heard about in stories,  all of which are different coming from different people,  but the more he learns,  the more he begins to understand that while he thought this group killing people in their sleep was unprovoked,  maybe it wasn’t.
he wanted to learn who these people were before he made his opinion about them.  he’s already made his opinion about the saviors;  he knows they’re not good people,  he just doesn’t see an outlet for himself yet.  when the outpost is attacked during the war,  it’s alden who offers to open the door of the garage to ensure that they can surrender  (  he doesn’t trust anyone else to do the same.  )  because he’s starting to understand that the life their living may be a better life than the one at the sanctuary,  and he wants to figure out what it’s about.  while he wasn’t expecting to be taken in as a prisoner,  it’s not something he doesn’t understand.  he respects that that’s what they felt like they had to do.
it’s when he actually sees the hilltop that he understands the difference between those people and the saviors.  they’re building a life there,  they’re creating things all for themselves.  the saviors have to take everything to have anything.  he doesn’t want that.  he’s never wanted that.  he’s always dreamt of having more in this life  ---  he always dreamt of being part of building up communities like these,  he just hadn’t had the chance to see that they already  (  and can  )  exist.  that’s why he’s so adamant about following maggie’s orders while they’re there,  even though he doesn’t agree with the way she goes about things or even her morals.  he still respect hers more than he could have ever respected negan.  he sees that she’s hurting and he is patient with her because of it.
at the sanctuary  (  despite never interacting with n*gan personally  )  he follows their orders because his survival depended on it.  but at hilltop,  he follows maggie’s lead because there is much more on the line  ---  his future depends on it,  not just what gets him from one day to the next.  a chance at a real life,  an opportunity to be part of a real community  ---  that’s what he wants,  and being at hilltop is when he really sees the difference between these groups of people.  there are a lot of parallels between the groups and murdering the saviors in their sleep without ever actually interacting with them first gave people every right to not trust them or see them as the good guys  ---  but alden was still being open to understanding who they are beyond that,  and seeing that what they’ve built for themselves is something that he should want to be part of  ---  it’s why every single move he makes while he’s a prisoner at the hilltop is for them,  not for himself or for the saviors.
being at the sanctuary was a survivor’s move to get him through one day to the next.  being at the hilltop was an opportunity to actually build a life and a future.  he didn’t know there were communities like that out there when he first arrived at the sanctuary.  he thought that was all there was,  and that was as good as it was going to get.  the second he saw that that wasn’t true,  the second he saw that there was more,  he did everything he could to make sure he could be a part of it and leave what he didn’t like or want or agree with behind.

Here are some of my notes from watching TWD S10. Spoilers ahead beware:
Negan’s redemption arc is really something. I really wonder how Sparks would react to him.  I really love the interactions of Negan and Lydia I really wanna interact with Magna, Connie, Yumiko and Kelly !!!!!! Judith is so precious You know what pisses me off???? IS THAT LYDIA IS A CHILD. and no one but Negan stepped up to defend her???? Like Daryl was out being busy taking Carol out on dates to notice his daughter is BULLIED SHAMEEEE I was so mad they killed Siddiq, I was really hoping he’d overcome his PTSD. I also was suspicious about Dante from the start. Way too cocky.  Eugene really do be a Nice Guys TM huh I wanna interact with a Rosita Alpha and Negan’s frick scene was TOO MUCH.  Beta really be annoying me, though his interactions with Negan are hilarious Im worried about Magna and Connie they are some of my faves Alden is such a hottie 10/10 sparks would have a thing for him Carol really be pissing me off this season. Heart Shaped Crop (NSFW)
Tumblr media
WARNINGS for soft femdom, wipping, bondage, breeding kink, dirty talking, edging, cock ring, oral, bad english (I’m french-canadian) and I’m probably forgetting a few other warnings but meh, if you follow me, you know I don’t write for kids!
BLUSHING EUGENE IS LOVE!
You watched Eugene smile slightly when he saw Gabriel meet with Rosita and Siddiq. You knew he was heartbroken, but you couldn’t help it: you were glad Rosita didn’t felt the same toward him. Of course she was one of his good “friends”… or at least Eugene considers her his friend, even if she treated him horribly a few years ago with the whole Negan stuff. She kinda makes it up for it, started smiling to him and let him talk even when nobody cares… well, except you.
You never get to really talk to him, you were far too shy for that. What were you going to say? “Hey, I really want to ride your face while you’re tied up to my bed, then ride your cock and make you moan my name, beg me to let you cum and maybe I could slap your chubby cheek and make you call me Madam?” No way in hell he’s ever going to let you approach him anymore if you tell him all about your femdom fantasies.
You recently found a red heart shaped crop into the house you raid with Alden, along with a few other bdsm items. You hid them into your sport bag, then brought then right back home, hiding under your bed. Some nights, you play with the crop, imagining Eugene writhe under the cold touch of the red leather as you would trail the crop across his thighs, up to his ass, than the little helpless yelp he would let out as you slap him hard, leaving a cute heart shaped red mark on his bottom.
You imagine him grinding the bed, his hands tied up, exposed and embarrassed to be so turned on by your teasing, trembling as he waits for the next slap. God, if he knew... Unfortunately, your imagination isn't satisfactory anymore: you need to actually see him tied to your bed, naked, helpless and begging for more after you had left numerous red little heart marks on his bottom, thick thighs and back. Then you would slowly kiss and lick each one of them, hearing the man moan as you would ran your tongue in a much more intimate place.
You turn red when you noticed Eugene staring at you with a frown, probably wondering why you were looking at him with that smile on your face.
"Are you fine, Y/N? I hope you’re not pregnant too…”
You look at him with round eyes.
“Does I look pregnant?”
Your tone was making him nervous, but he still dared to reply.
“Well… you’ve been acting strangely lately: less patient, more clingy and your moods changed a lot. You seems quite happy to see me back, but at the same time I could sense you were angry.”
Of course you became worried when you heard he was missing, angry at Rosita when she left him alone in that barn, happy he came back alive, but also angry after you overheard his confession to that bitch.
“I simply hope you know who the father is…”
Without even thinking twice, you slap him hard across the face. It was so hard, it resonate in the street and you could swear even Michonne had heard it in her reunion room.
Eugene looks at you in shock, holding his cheek, and you immediately felt bad about it. At the same time, you loved the red mark you left on his face. It kinda felt like marking your territory.
“I… I’m sorry… I’m not pregnant, Eugene. I don’t even have a boyfriend, you know it…”
"Apologises accepted," he said with his monotone voice and his face return to his usual emotionless state, "Rosita can punch harder than you."
You can't believe he compared you to Rosita. You start yelling at him and crying.
"Is that why you're always around her, trying to catch her attention? She treats you like shit when I've always been nice to you! I can't believe I felt in love with someone like you!"
Eugene stayed silent, frozen in shock. He stutters:
"I... I deeply apologise. I didn't knew you harbored such feelings toward me. Socials interactions are obviously not my strength. Is there something I can do to earn your forgiveness?"
Your anger left as quicky as it came.
"I can ask you anything?"
"Affirmative."
A few moments later, you got Eugene tied up to your bed, wriggling uncomfortably and testing his restrains, looking hella anxious while you pull out your box of s&m toys from under your bed.
"Y/N... I... I know I agree to do anything you want to prove I deeply apologise for my recent behavior... but it is really what you want? Because I must admit this is not what I imagine when you said you wanted to slap me and I don't really..."
His sentence end in a yelp when you hit him on his thick thigh with your crop.
"I'm not good with pain..." his voice was trembling and you felt like a wolf about to eat his little scared sheep.
"Don't worry, there will be more pleasure than pain, I promise..." you said as you let the crop slide slowly up your captive's body, lifting his shirt a bit before going down to tease the inside his thighs. You heard his breath become deeper.
"This is crossing so much boundaries... Are you sure about that? You know there will be no going back..."
You took place between Eugene's legs on the bed. You lick your lips and runs your hands on his body.
"You mean going back to ignoring I even exist?" You says while you slowly cup the growing bulge inside his cargo, looking at the light red tint coloring his cheeks.
He looks at you with a sad pouty face, knowing he had hurt you more than he previously thought, shaking from your exploration on his touch-starved body. Your heart melts. He's so damn cute when he's acting all shy. Still holding the crop, you let your fingers gently caress his blushing cheeks and you smile.
"I'm really curious to see what's the deepest shade of red I can make you turn..." you didn't let Eugene reply and lean down to kiss him. He lets out a soft whimper as your hand on his crotch became more insistent. When you part, his face was bright red and he could form a coherent sentence anymore, stuttering about relationship, friendship, his sexual experience (or lack thereof) and his tendency to traditional/vanilla preferences in porn.
"You can't know if you hate it before actually trying it, don't you?" was your reply as you put down his pants to his knees before pushing them up to his chest, exposing his soft bubble butt. You tied his legs up to the head of the bed with his hands, delighted to feel him trembling under you. Once you made sure he couldn’t get free, you sit back on your heels to take a look at your prey.
You couldn't help it but laugh.
"Preferences in vanilla porn? Really? Look at you..." you said as you slide your finger on his leaking cock. "Hard as steel and already leaking even if I barely touched you." You hit him softly in the butt with the crop. "Come on sweetie, why you just don't admit you like femdom?"
He gulps loudly, gathering his courage.
"I... I admit I like strong women. Leadership is something I admire in any person, men or women, but I don't feel any kind of masochist tendencies. The only reason why I'm currently hard is because of your interest in engaging sexual activity with me, which never happened to me before. I'm slave to my animalistic urges and my body is craving contact, so am I... perfectly disposed to satisfy you any way you see fit."
You smile before slapping him hard on the butt with the crop, earning a yelp.
"Then, let's see if I can make your ass as red as your face, shall we?"
As you continue to hit him harder and harder, listening to his whimpers and cries, it become clear he actually enjoyed it. His cock bounce and pulse with each smack, leaking like crazy and harder than ever.
You only stop when his ass was bright red, but not enough to draw blood. Eugene was shaking and repeating over and over again how sorry he was to compared you to Rosita and hurting your feelings. You look down into the box and pull out a tube of vitamin E ointment. You pour a generous amount on your hand and start soothing Eugene's red bottom.
"It's ok now, I forgive you sweetheart... you had been a good boy..."
He slowly calm down, letting out moans as your caressing hand fondles his butt. He gasps when he felt your wet fingers slide playfully between his cheeks, rubbing against his entrance. You felt him tense under your touch.
"Y/N..."
He pulls against his restrains and looks away, unable to maintain eyes contact as you slowly push a slick finger inside him.
"Relax... It'll feel good, I promise."
He closes in eyes shut as you start your exploration of his inside, knowing very well where to found that feel-good place. Eugene's reaction to your discovery was breathtaking. Eyes shot open, body arching, pushing his bottom against your hand, moaning like a little slut and precum rolling down his shaft… it was quite a sight.
"See? Told you it'll feel good."
You reach into the box again and pull out a cock ring with a vibrating butt plug. You replace your finger with the plug, then attach the cock ring around his length and let Eugene get used to it.
"Is it too tight? I must admit, you're bigger than average down there..."
Breathing hard and sweating, Eugene looks down between his shaking legs and you could swear he was about to cry.
"I can endure the whipping and prostate playing, but cock ring? Really? You're gonna make me beg for release, aren't you?"
You smile at him as you untie his legs.
"That wasn't my intention, but it's an interesting idea. Actually, I just want to make sure you won't cum too fast, considering your lack of sexual experience. Virgins are known to have a very low stamina, I consider myself lucky you didn't cum already."
You let him put down his legs as you removed your panty, then climb on top of him, letting your pussy rub against his length before going up, one knee on each side of his face. You lift your skirt and watch him blushes furiously at the realisation of what you expect from him.
"Come on now, be a good boy and lick me. You want me dripping wet for your dick, doesn't you?"
He can't stop looking at you in awe as you lower your cunt to his face.
"Oh dear Lord, thank you for this meal..."
You giggle at his words, but quickly your giggles turn into moans as you feel him lap hungrily at your lady parts. He was not exactly good at it and lack of know-how, but his enthusiasm make up for that. He was devouring you like the juiciest peach, making out with your cunt and occasionally, you felt the flick of his tongue brushes against your clit. Gripping the headboard, you rock your hips against his hungry plush mouth, muttering encouragements and tips to help him drive you toward your orgasm.
"Good boy, good boy... lick there again... gently... that's good... you can suck on it a bit... oh yea that's it..."
No matter how fast he learns to please you with his tongue, it wasn’t enough to make you cum and you quickly became desperate to claim his v-card, feel his hot pulsing length stretch you open.
You stand up to straddle his hips, rubbing your now drenched pussy against his swollen cock. You marvel at the sight of the veins now very apparent on his manhood: the cock ring work like magic, this is going to be fun. You turn on the vibrations on his butt plug and he groans in delight. Looking back at his face wet from your juice, you slowly sit down on his thick dick, moaning at the feeling of fullness.
It was difficult to control yourself: Eugene wouldn't stop trusting up. You can see in his clouded eyes he's not there anymore, he's far away into wonderland. You slap him across the face, hard, to bring him back to earth and calm him down. It has the opposite effect.
"Oh god slap me again, I'm a dirty, dirty bad boy..."
You sat in his hips to make him stop moving, moaning at the feeling of the vibrations and his hard cock buried deep inside you. Eugene was still writhing under you and you wonder if he was even conscious of the situation or if the only thing left was his animal instincts.
"I know it's hard but you have to stop grinding up so I can ride you properly."
He didn't seem to heard a single thing you said. You try to slap him again, but he stops your hand and you didn’t have time to wonder how he got free, Eugene throws you off the bed, on the ground, and pin you down. His mind didn’t seems to work anymore because he didn’t remove the cock ring before entering you again, holding your legs open wide. The way he fuck you was the definition of wild, and you loved it. You couldn’t close your legs or push him away as he ravages you, groaning like an animal.
"Oh you feel good... so good..."
Trusting deep inside your dripping wet cunt, Eugene couldn't stop moaning and calling your name, his warm shaking breathe tickling your ear. You felt your stomach tighten and moan as you clamp around his cock, cumming hard. The intensity of your orgasm make you shiver and your eyes widen when you notice Eugene wasn’t slowing down. He still has the cock ring, so he can’t cum. You try to push him away to free him, but he was by far stronger than you. Being fuck so relentlessly after you just cum make your mind goes blank and you start seeing stars.
"Eugene... please..."
His strong hands were griping your hips so hard you're sure it will leave marks.
"Oh yes... you like that don't you? Begging for my cock now?" He breathes out in his brawl, his warm breath tickling your ear.
"Your plump pussy feel so damn good, I've never been that hard in my life..." the rest of the sentence were just groans and some more obscenities you never knew Eugene could say.
“Isn’t what you wanted? For me to pound your lustfully soft pussy until you can’t take it anymore? That’s why you used a cock ring, isn’t? Dirty, dirty girl…”
You felt like coming again, but it goes on and on, leaving you breathless as Eugene's rock hard length continue to pound inside you. He was not stopping; even as you come down from your high, he doesn't even slow down. You clawed at his back.
"Eugene... please… the cock ring..."
You gasp when he pulls out and the cock ring was gone in no time, then he buried himself back in your wet heat with a deep moan. He continues to thrust in you relentlessly, his whole body pinning you to the ground as he ravages you to his heart content.
“I have a huge load for you… Oh God I’m going to fill you, naughty girl… Want me to stuff your plump pussy with cum, don’t you?”
You couldn’t get free, waiting for him to blow his load inside you, your legs wrapped around his waist and begging for his cum.
“Oh yes baby! Give it to me!”
You can’t believe you could have another orgasm, but there it is. As you felt him pulse inside you, filling you with his warm baby-batter, your cunt clamps around his incredibly hard and thick cock. You weren’t pregnant before, but now for sure you were carrying Eugene’s baby and you kind of expect it was intentional. Once Eugene catches his breath, he lifts up your legs to your chest and slowly pulls out, watching in awe as his cum roll down between your cheeks.
“Was it ok?”
“Ok? It was wonderful!” you praise him, still breathless.
“So… so you accept my apologies then? I never should have compared you to Rosita, and I’m also sorry for hurting your feelings. Be confident I won’t ever let that happened again… I love you.”
You sit up to kiss him.
“I love you too, sweetheart.”

LUCK INCENSE —— ⸙ ) is there a ship you want to run with this muse, but haven’t?
Beth Greene - No. Carol Peletier - No. Charley Eaton - Yes. I want an interaction with Charley opposite Shane. Daryl Dixon - No. Rick Grimes - Yes. I would love to play my Rick against a Carol. Shane Walsh - Yes, I'd love to try my Shane against Rosita. Sophia Peletier - No.
ODD INCENSE —— ⸙ ) do you have any ‘crack’ or otherwise ‘weird’ ships for this muse? have you roleplayed them before?
Beth Greene - Beth/Shane. Yes, I have roleplayed this before. My partner basically dipped so I've not had a chance to really play it out since then. That was years ago. Carol Peletier - Carol/Negan? I don't know if that really counts because they have interacted, and I could see it. And anything I actually ship, I don't label as crack. And yes, I've got a few threads going for Carol/Negan. Daryl Dixon - I really can't think of anything that would be considered weird. I guess Daryl/Lori could count because it's a rare pair. Yes, I do get to roleplay it. And I love it. Rick Grimes - I don't really have a crack/weird pairing for Rick. Shane Walsh - Same goes for Rick. Sophia Peletier - Sophia's weird/crack ship would be that I would still like to play out something between Alden and her. I've not gotten the chance to yet, but I'm always open to doing it.
FULL INCENSE —— name one of your favourite shipping tropes!
I'm going to name two. Awkward kiss and the only one I trust.

The Walking Dead, Episode 11: Unstoppable Force Meets Immovable Hilltop
Episode 11 of The Walking Dead, and we get to see characters! Talking to each other! Being good at communicating and also fighting! (Look, one day I’ll be over this development, but it is not this day.)
More specifically, we get to see what happens when a horde shambles into town, Eugene definitely makes a new friends, and there’s so many heartwarming character moments that I am genuinely terrified about who’s going to die next week.
Full review and spoilers below.
The episode opens with the Whisperers getting ready for some sort of hijinks - Beta angrily stabs a tree until sap starts coming out, and Alpha gets Negan to cane her. The indulgence in physical chastisement isn’t particularly new or surprising for the Whisperers - what is interesting is the look on Negan’s face when he actually strikes Alpha.
Now, this is the man who, ten years or so earlier, held red-hot irons to people’s faces and beat randomly-selected victims to an actual pulp in front of their nearest and dearest. He is not a man who you would expect to be uncomfortable with violence, hence his most interesting discomfort.
Maybe it’s just because he can’t see the point of this violence - his violence was always public, a spectacle designed to act as education and deterrent for all involved, so a private caning session might be out of character. Maybe it’s because he’s just not used to any sort of violence anymore, after so many years farming and helping Judith with maths homework.
But, regardless of his hesitation (the first real hesitation, I would argue, we’ve seen from him since he joined the Whisperers), he beats Alpha, is beaten in return, and is rewarded with his very own Whisperer mask, standing by Alpha’s side as she leads her army of the undead out to cause some trouble.
Interestingly, Negan also tries to get Alpha to tone down her plans for Hilltop and Alexandria - to break the communities and make them surrender rather than just massacring all of them. Again, is this because of a genuine desire to save lives or just because he’d rather see his captors humiliated than killed? I’d really like it to be the former, but we all know that I don’t always get what I want from this show.
The army of undead shambling towards Hilltop is, thankfully, spotted in time by Daryl and Lydia, who have been out trying to find a way back to Connie and Magna - Kelly’s remaining surprisingly level-headed in the face of her sister’s ongoing disappearance, but does have a moment of anger when Yumiko more or less admits that she’s not expecting to see either of the women alive again.
But that concern, and those of Earl (who’s been raising Adam, the little Whisperer baby, alone since his wife’s murder at the hands of Alpha, and who doesn’t want Mary-the-Former-Whisperer anywhere near his little ward), are all pushed aside in favour of deciding whether to stay and fight, or run and hide.
The compromise - to evacuate the kids at least - is a delightfully smart and reasonable one, and the sight of little RJ climbing into a wagon with his sister’s hat and Uncle Daryl’s vest on his tiny shoulders was flat-out adorable. Unfortunately, RJ doesn’t get his fun holiday to the safety of Oceanside because the roads are all blocked in a move entirely reminiscent of Negan’s redirecting of the gang way back at the end of Season 6 - as Daryl immediately puts together.
With the ways out blocked, and no way to get anyone else in place in time to make a difference, Hilltop has to stand and fight - no question about it.
Meanwhile, in between the fears for the future, Eugene is continuing his long-distance flirtation with the mysterious Stephanie via radio-links. It’s adorable, genuinely adorable, and it was admittedly working really well to quieten down my concerns over the whole “don’t tell anyone about these conversations” thing - although the fact that Stephanie then asks Eugene to meet her somewhere without telling anyone about that either immediately set off all my Teacher-Safeguarding-CyberSafety alarms.
Their interactions are temporarily derailed by Rosita finding the unattended radio and trying to speak to Stephanie - in direct contravention of the “no one else can know” rule. Stephanie freaks out and stops responding, while Eugene snaps at Rosita to, essentially, mind her own business.
Eugene later opens up a little bit more to Rosita, telling her the bare bones and voicing some of his concerns about the potential of such a relationship. Rosita, for obvious reasons, can’t really comment on the intentions of a voice on the other end of radio, but she does help Eugene figure out that, actually, he is pretty serious about Stephanie - certainly serious enough to knock his lingering attraction to Rosita squarely on its ass, which is a bit of relief for everyone involved, I’d imagine.
He then gets Stephanie to pick up the radio again by singing to her - a move which was way sweeter than I imagined, even as it played over the sights of Hilltop preparing for the kind of noble last stand that you normally see in old black-and-white war films. It works! The two set a date and a location for a face-to-face meeting - here’s hoping it’s a date that Eugene doesn’t miss due to unexpected death.
In their maybe-final-afternoon, Carol and Ezekiel “reconnect” (*coughcough*) after Ezekiel admits that his health isn’t actually all that great, and Carol and Lydia had a weird little moment, the daughter of a monster talking openly with the mother who lost a son to that very same monster - even the admission that Carol will kill Alpha, not even to save others but just because it will feel good, isn’t enough to make Lydia hate someone who already seems to hate themselves so much.
Alden, former boyfriend of Enid and surrogate son to Earl, is in a far less accepting mood, and snaps at Mary when she comes to see Adam - despite the genetic factor, Alden rejects her as any relation of Adam, pointing out that she and the Whisperers abandoned Adam. It’s an argument which isn’t likely to be solved anytime soon, and I do hope that they'll revisit the issue with whoever survives the horde.
Daryl and Ezekiel speak for the first time since maybe the first episode of the season - the two have never really been at odds, expect for the moments post-Henry’s death in which Ezekiel thought Daryl’s presence was going to end his marriage, and it was nice to see them speak respectfully to one another. Daryl’s quiet sympathy over the cancer is perfectly in character and his request - that Ezekiel saves Judith and RJ should Daryl fall in the battle to come - is perhaps the single greatest sign of respect that Daryl could possibly give to the King without a Kingdom.
Speaking of Judith, the conversation between her and Daryl was all sort of adorable, especially her firm insistence that she’s not scared, really she’s not, but that if she was just a little scared, it would be of losing her family. In a moment which did really almost make me cry, she found some time and some paint to replace the broken wing on Daryl’s vest.
With all the players feeling surprisingly sorted, the gang forms up for their defence of Hilltop. The plan isn’t bad, per se, especially given their limited numbers of fighters: as many fences as they could cobble together (including a really good, if sadly shortly-lived, electric fence courtesy of Eugene and his stash of car batteries) and then some really long weapons to stab walkers with.
Of course, very few battle-plans survive contact with the enemy, and the fences give way under the weight of the approaching horde.
And that’s when the Whisperers reveal their trump card - exploding bundles of sap, which is way, way more flammable than I ever realised. A few well-placed flame arrows later, and the Hilltop defenders are trapped between an army of walkers and a wall of fire.
My final note for this episode is simply “How dare you?”, which pretty much sums up that cliffhanger, if you ask me. I swear to God, next week’s episode had better also be at Hilltop or else I’m going to throw things.

‘The Walking Dead’ had a huge opportunity to take a big swing on Sunday’s episode and it chickened out, Defence Online
caption
Were you surprised by the way Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” ended?
source
Gene Page/AMC
Warning: There are massive spoilers ahead for “The Walking Dead” season nine, episode 15, “The Calm Before.”
In an extended episode, “The Walking Dead” brought a big moment from the comics to life.
During King Ezekiel’s fair, Alpha kidnaps and kills 10 characters. Their heads get displayed on pikes for Daryl, Michonne, and more to find.
Fans expected AMC’s show to deliver “Game of Thrones”-sized deaths. Some even referred to it as “TWD’s” Red Wedding episode.
But when the actual deaths were finally revealed, they were a bit underwhelming. Other than three characters, most of them were background or recurring characters with little-to-no screen time.
Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” finally brought a huge comic moment to life.
After the introduction of the Whisperers on last November’s mid-season finale, comic fans have been waiting to see if and when Alpha may infiltrate King Ezekiel’s fair, pluck a number of unsuspecting fairgoers, behead them, and put their heads on pikes for display.
Sunday’s “The Walking Dead” appeared to check off all of those boxes, making viewers feel fear and dread up until the big reveal thanks to a few clever misdirects that may have thrown off comic fans. But was the reveal at the episode’s end everything you hoped for? Probably not.
Though “The Walking Dead” killed off 10 characters at once, you may have been left underwhelmed by all but three reveals. Let’s discuss.
Expectations: People were comparing Sunday’s “TWD” to an iconic “Game of Thrones” episode.

Usually, big deaths don’t occur on AMC’s zombie drama until a finale, so this moment may have caught some viewers off guard.
Fans were getting so pumped for Sunday’s episode that some started comparing it to an iconic “Game of Thrones” episode, “The Rains of Castamere.” Many were referring to it as “The Walking Dead’s” “Red Wedding” episode by tweeting #RedFair.
The #REDFAIR next week on #TWD Damn man I’m excited

The #RedFair is coming to #TheWalkingDead, are you ready? I’m not! #nervous https://t.co/seRbyehf5u

Shall we use #RedFair for episode 15 ????
— Anu (@AnulovesCarol) March 13, 2019
The Red Wedding is perhaps one of the most shocking events on HBO’s third season of “Game of Thrones.” A number of big characters are ruthlessly murdered. It wasn’t just fans making that comparison.
The “Walking Dead” comic account tweeted out an image from “Game of Thrones,” hinting a Red Wedding-like episode was on the horizon.

Who “The Walking Dead” chose to kill off and how it strayed from the comic
As the faces of the undead were shown one by one, fans quickly learned the show swapped its comic deaths for others. Instead of King Ezekiel and Rosita, the episodes big deaths were Henry, Tara, and Enid along with seven other recurring and background characters.
Here are the characters killed off on the show in order of their reveal: Ozzy, Alek, D.J., Frankie, Tammy Rose, Rodney, Addy, Enid, Tara, and Henry.
Here are the characters who were killed off in the comic: Olivia, Josh, Doctor Carson, Tammy Rose, Luke, Erin, Ken, Amber, Larry, Oscar, Rosita, and King Ezekiel.
Showrunner Angela Kang told Entertainment Weekly they always planned on killing Tammy Rose. Tara’s death was a sense of retribution since she was seen as the leader of the Hilltop by Alpha.
The problem with who was killed: Who WERE most of those people?
caption
It was like someone stuck a bunch of B-level, recurring, and background characters names in a hat and plucked all but Henry’s out. (Henry was clearly the sure bet to kill after stealing Alpha’s daughter.)

Other than Henry, most of Sunday’s deaths have little-to-no build up, feel random, and frankly, don’t feel earned.
Also, you may have wondered who some of these people were. Clearly “The Walking Dead” wanted viewers to feel something for each of these deaths, but aside from Henry, Tara, and Enid – these aren’t deaths people are going to cry over. I cried harder over Daryl holding Carol back from seeing her son’s head on a pike than for just about anyone in that lineup. (Except Enid.)
I actually had to pause and slowly unpause the review screener I received because I had no idea who the first two-to-three deaths were initially, and I cover this show week to week. I was also asked by someone else who is very in tune with “TWD” world who the name of the second person in the pike lineup was. (We learn very briefly on the episode his name is Alek and that he was one of the Highwaymen.)
Were you confused over who most of those people were on the pikes?
Let’s walk through these deaths in their order of appearance and see how well you actually know them.
The first two were the Highwaymen, who were just introduced two episodes ago. Unless you Googled them or were really paying attention, you most likely missed their names are Ozzy and Alek.

Alek and Ozzy tried to swoop in and save everyone. Instead, they became Whisperer victims.

Then, we have former Savior D.J. You may remember him as that one really attractive Savior who worked for Negan with really white teeth. He’s actually credited on seven of this season’s other episodes, but you may not remember seeing much of him because he wasn’t front and center when there are about two dozen other cast members.
caption
D.J. was the Savior with the whitest teeth.

We have seen Frankie once on season nine and that was very briefly on last Sunday’s episode, “Scars.” She was one of Negan’s many former wives who became friends with Eugene during his time at the Sanctuary.

Tammy Rose was the mother who lost her child on the season nine premiere and always had something to complain to Tara or Jesus about. Her death was the only one on Sunday’s episode that actually occurred in the comics. So this one felt right. It also made sense on the show for her to get a pike death since Alpha spied her with the stolen Whisperer baby. As a mother who was trying to get back her own missing daughter, that probably didn’t fly with her.
caption
Tammy Rose was voted as one of the characters people wanted to see killed off the show in a recent poll conducted by INSIDER.

No one cared about the teens Rodney and Addy, sorry. The two were a part of a meddlesome group of Hilltop teens who tried to get Henry to drink and made fun of him before leaving him for dead in a pit with a walker. Addy was actually the one person in the group who was nice to Henry, but we never spent enough time with either of these characters for them to feel three dimensional. She had a minor crush on Henry that went unrequited.
caption
Do you really even remember Addy and Rodney?
source
Jace Downs/AMC
Enid’s death actually felt like the first real surprise on the pikes, and the one that felt most shocking. On the show since season five, we’ve watched Enid lose her family and her original love, Carl. She was just getting things together as a doctor and was starting off a new relationship with Alden.
caption
Enid’s death was one of the few that hit us in the feels.
source
Gene Page/AMC
Tara’s death was also a slight shock. Up until her very reveal, the show does a good job of misdirecting the viewer to believe Rosita was getting her comic death. With Maggie MIA and Jesus dead, it looked like Tara was going to take over as leader of the Hilltop community.
caption
Were you expecting to see Tara get Rosita’s comic death?
source
Gene Page/AMC
Henry was the final face revealed on the pikes, but it felt like the most obvious one to be up there. Henry is the reason Alpha went after anyone in the first place because he convinced her daughter, Lydia, there was more to life than being a Whisperer. Alpha didn’t like that and Lydia’s boyfriend had to go.
caption
Alpha didn’t like Lydia getting mixed up with Henry.
source
Jackson Lee Davis/AMC
It felt like Alpha dropped the ball a bit here. If she really is as heartless as the show makes her come off, why didn’t she kill both Henry and King Ezekiel? We certainly know she has no problem killing husbands. She killed her own!
caption
You’re telling me a woman who was clever enough to eavesdrop during the fair to learn Michonne’s name couldn’t pick up on which characters were really important and mattered to others?
source
Gene Page/AMC
Alpha’s ruthless. She had a great plan. I’m just questioning her execution a bit. Tammy Rose? I get it. She took that Whisperer baby. Overall, Alpha probably should have spent some more time at the fair to gather intel on which characters people actually cared about.
Why a lot of these deaths felt pointless: The season’s focus hasn’t been on the majority of these characters outside of Henry
caption
In swapping out the comic deaths, “The Walking Dead” killed off a bunch of characters fans don’t even care for that much outside of a few.

Gene Page/AMC
New showrunner Angela Kang has done such a great job of refocusing the show on its A-level stars and their interactions – Michonne, Daryl, Carol, King Ezekiel, Judith, Negan, Father Gabriel, Rosita, Siddiq, and now Alpha and Beta, while also balancing the introduction of another group of five (Magna, Yumiko, Luke, Connie, and Kelly). However, in the process, some of these other characters, who were killed on Sunday’s episode, like Tara, have kind of fallen by the wayside.
caption
That’s A LOT of main characters. And none of them died.
source
Gene Page/AMC
Tara’s big thing this season was holding a grudge against Michonne for protecting the life of her unborn child from feral children and running the Hilltop while Jesus died and Maggie went somewhere unannounced. Katelyn Nacon, who plays Enid, told INSIDER her character’s storyline kind of just fell into the background on the back half of season nine as she was shoehorned into another relationship.
Read more: ‘The Walking Dead’s’ Katelyn Nacon was ‘bummed out’ her character was pushed into another love interest role
In the end, when the big deaths were revealed, none of them felt truly impactful except for maybe Enid, who I found the most shocking since her character has lived by the motto “Just Survive Somehow.” She has never come across as a character who is going to get easily lured away or kidnapped. It seemed more likely her new beau, Alden (Callan McAuliffe), or at the very least, someone from Magna’s group was going to get the pike.
You can argue that the show handled misdirects really well and that they just didn’t want to do what people were expecting from the comics. The episode certainly plants seeds to make you nervous about several characters throughtout the extended episode. While Alpha’s at the fair she lays her eyes on Eugene and Rosita. She even has an ominous conversation with Ezekiel. You were practically expecting to see one, if not all of them on pikes by the episode’s end.

And then they weren’t on the pikes. And that’s fine. But if you’re not going to have the comic deaths on the show then add in a few more big characters who have been getting a lot of screen time. That’s who people are going to get really upset over.
INSIDER recently conducted a poll asking 788 self-proclaimed “Walking Dead” fans which characters they would be devastated to see killed off the show. No fans voted they would be most upset if Alpha, Earl, Tammy Rose, Cyndie, or Yumiko were killed off the series. Henry, Tara, and Tammy Rose were voted among the top characters fans wanted to see die the most in our poll.
I cried more for Carol’s reaction to learning her son was killed than I did for any one individual person on those pikes. I don’t think that’s the reaction AMC and the “Walking Dead” crew probably wants fans to have.
Who should have been killed: One of the A-listers.

Will “The Walking Dead” regret not killing off Khary Payton’s character if he winds up leaving next season?

It seemed like the show wanted to shake up what happens in the comics, something it’s done in the past, but if AMC was trying to make a big “Game of Thrones” statement, it should have killed off a lead or a fan favorite. Maybe both. King Ezekiel would have been the obvious choice, not only because this is his big comic death, but also because there have been reports that next season may be his last.
Danai Gurira is also supposed to leave the show next season, as reported by INSIDER.
The problem with killing off one of the show’s big stars: “The Walking Dead” is running out of them

The main reason we probably didn’t see one of the main characters go? They’re becoming far and few. AMC probably knows viewers keep tuning in for Daryl, Carol, Michonne, Negan, and Ezekiel before any of the other characters. The show has already been dipping in the ratings. Yes, the show has had some better ratings week to week recently, thanks to some very strong episodes, including “Scars,” but the trend season over season has been downward.
Maybe if Maggie, Heath, Jesus, and more didn’t leave the show for other opportunities, they would have been pretty good pike candidates. (Not that I would have wanted to see any of these characters piked.)
Also, where was Aaron (Ross Marquand)? He has barely appeared on this season and easily would have made for a shocking pike death. Father Gabriel has long outlived his comic death on the show. He could have been another viable candidate. Do we really need all three men who are in love with Rosita still alive to help her raise her child?
Even the actors were surprised the deaths weren’t larger.

Katelyn Nacon told INSIDER Christian Serratos and Khary Payton thought they may be getting killed off the show.

During a phone interview Friday, Katelyn Nacon told INSIDER she thought there were going to be more big actors audiences were familiar with on the pikes.
“Honestly, I was surprised that it wasn’t anymore series regulars other than me and Alanna [Masterson],” Katelyn Nacon told INSIDER of her reaction to learning of the characters killed on Sunday’s episode.
“When we first discussed it in the beginning of the season, it had sounded like there was going to be a lot of big people with their heads on pikes, but I was honestly kind of surprised that it was just me and her out of all the series regulars. I thought there was going to be more,” said Nacon.
And it wasn’t just Nacon who was surprised. The actress, who has played Enid on the show since season five told INSIDER Khary Payton, who plays Ezekiel, and Christian Serratos, who plays Rosita, thought they were also going to receive their comic deaths.
“Even Khary [Payton] and Christian [Serratos], they thought that it was going to be them up until the episode came out for all of us to read,” said Nacon. “They kind of really went the entire year, too, just wondering whether they were going to die or not until they actually got the episode and saw it wasn’t them.”
What did you think of Sunday’s big reveal? Were you shocked by the amount of characters killed off and upset or did you feel underwhelmed and let down by the iconic comic moment come to life?

The Walking Dead Spoilers: Season 9 Premiere Recap & Review
Season 9 Episode 1 of The Walking Dead has premiered, and thanks to AMC Premiere, fans were able to watch the episode 24 hours early. Heavy took advantage of this and can report back that the premiere was absolutely phenomenal. Although the episode didn’t have any truly earth-shattering moments, it was deep in character development, had a few scenes that left you at the edge of your seat, and had some moments that really touched viewers’ hearts. Below is a recap and review of the Season 9 premiere of The Walking Dead. So of course, this article will have major spoilers from here on.
The episode had a natural feel that the show has been missing for awhile. The dialogue feels greatly improved, and scenes flow much better. Although there were still some moments when I wondered why the characters were putting themselves in certain positions, the episode was overall a solid 4 out 5 stars. The plot moved along at a good pace, while also taking time to really flesh out the characters’ struggles. Even Daryl had more lines than he’s had in a long time.
The episode begins with an obvious time jump. The best clue we have regarding how much time has passed is Judith’s age. But we actually don’t have to guess, because the time jump was revealed in The Walking Dead Season 9 preview special. About 18 months have passed since Season 8 concluded. (Tom Payne, who plays Jesus, revealed the exact length of time for fans.)
One of the first people we see is Ronan from The 100, who is now Justin on The Walking Dead. This actor has actually had a number of significant roles (Agents of Shield, Black Sails), so don’t expect this to be a bit role. More is coming from him. There’s a montage of different scenes, and then we’re in Washington, D.C., where it appears a walker fell asleep against a car and suddenly woke up. (Do walkers sleep?)
And that’s when we see the beautiful new intro/opening credits. For the first time, the show has changed its opening credits dramatically. Rewatch the new opening credits below.
youtube
At one point, the intro pans out more to show us that mysterious helicopter that Jadis was connected to. That’s likely from the Commonwealth, I’d guess.

And we pan away from the horses to crosses and a sword in the ground and Carl’s hat. :(

And now it’s time to continue with the show.
Our main characters are making a supply run to Washington, D.C., where they visit the Smithsonian in a pretty intense scene. Everyone is putting their lives at risk to drag a wagon over a glass floor while a bunch of walkers loom beneath, very hungry. I wondered from time to time if this was worth it. Couldn’t they make their own wagon, worst case scenario, rather than go through all this for one? The seeds are certainly worthwhile, but you wouldn’t have to risk breaking through a glass floor in the process.
YES, the woman you see talking to Gabriel during this scene is Jadis, now going by Anne. She looks completely different and acts completely different. Those bowlcut bangs are gone, and so is her weird accent. But she’s still hiding secrets.
Does anyone else think Jadis isn't the sole survivor of her group? I think she has a lot more going on than we know.. Just an example: maybe she has other groups in locations we don't yet know about. Thoughts #TWDFamily? #TheWalkingDead #TWD pic.twitter.com/c2PmjAjats

For that matter, Gabriel is different now too, but he’s embraced his new self.
AMCGabriel
In the process of trying to rescue the wagon, Ezekiel falls through the floor and is just barely saved from the walkers beneath. That’s when we officially learn that he and Carol are a couple now. :) They are absolutely adorable. Their back-and-forth banter later when he proposes is adorable too. I’m definitely on team Carzekiel. After waht
AMC
A bridge is out for unknown reasons, and as a result, a guy in a blue shirt dies when he tries to help free a horse before the walkers attack. Despite knowing nothing about him, Maggie’s brokenhearted response to his death really hit me. And no, she wasn’t calling him “kid” over and over. His name is Ken.
We soon learn that Tammy and Earl are Ken’s parents, and they’re heartbroken. They feel this was all worthless because so much of what they worked for is just going to the Saviors anyway. :( And they’re mad at Maggie. Maggie understands their grief and isn’t offended.
Later, Alden sings at the funeral. Alden was the member of the Saviors who was held hostage by Hilltop, but ended up siding with Maggie. So he got to stick around. He was singing the lyrics to The Last Rose of Summer, a poem by Irish poet Thomas Moore. The end of the poem reads: “So soon may I follow, When friendships decay, And from Love’s shining circle The gems drop away. When true hearts lie withered, And fond ones are flown, Oh! who would inhabit This bleak world alone?”
The poem has been set to music numerous times, most recently in the movie Three Billboards, which begins with a version performed by Renee Fleming.
We also learn that somehow, Gregory is still alive, which is weird to me.
Meanwhile, we see that at the Sanctuary, a lot of people practically worship Rick (and Daryl has been leading the group here.) Neither of them are too comfortable with the hero worship, however. But there’s still a group of secret folks who want Negan back.
AMC
We soon learn that Daryl really just wants to be with his friends again and not lead the Sanctuary anymore. He wants to see Maggie and her baby Hershel, and he just wants to check out for awhile. He’s kind of lonely. Carol picks up on it and offers to lead the Sanctuary for him so he can take a break. He offers to stay with her, but she says that she doesn’t need him to. They talk about Ezekiel’s proposal, and he’s happy for her. I honestly think this may be the most Daryl’s talked since his scenes with Beth. They have a pretty sweet moment that might give #Caryl fans some hope still, but I think Carol just sees Daryl as her younger brother, but has a real love for him in that sense.
AMC
This episode was great at delving into character relationships. The interactions between Michonne and Rick were natural and authentic too. I love how she made fun of him for being the Great Rick Grimes.
AMC
Gregory, meanwhile, is up to his old tricks. He’s claiming that Maggie rigged the election with Jesus’ help. He convinces Maggie (in a very Dr. Smith from Lost in Space kind of way) that Glenn’s tomb was defaced. When she goes, she’s attacked by Earl. Then she confronts Gregory, who attacks her too. And Enid is knocked out in the melee.
Maggie goes to Rick and demands that the Sanctuary doesn’t take such a big cut. She’s ready to take the lead now, like Rick promised he would let her. When she returns to Hilltop, she’s ready to make the tough decisions.
Yes, she’s going to hang Gregory. (I’m surprised he lives this long.) Daryl is the one who carries out her orders, slapping a horse so it will run away and Gregory will hang. Michonne is there and tries to stop the whole thing when she sees two kids watching, but Rick holds her back. This is Maggie’s decision, and rightly so. Maggie tells the crowd: “This is not the beginning of something. I don’t want to go through this again.”
And then the episode ends.
The premiere for Season 9 was well done, authentic, and intense. It set off on a higher quality tone in many ways than Season 8, and pulled the viewers right back in. I care about the characters again. And yes, Maggie’s death sentence on Gregory might have reminded people a bit of Negan, but it was necessary. Maggie is ready to take the reins and do what has to be done. But unlike Negan (or Rick for that matter), she will know where the line should be drawn.
What did you think of the episode? Let us know in the comments below.

“A Silver Lining” Luke x F!Reader
Tumblr media
Request from anonymous: CAN YOU PLEASEEE DO A LUKE IMAGINE??? Maybe the reader lives at Hilltop or Oceanside and Luke finds her singing one day and he like falls for her but shes shy???
Word Count: 3426
Warning: None
Song I Wrote To: “I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles
Note: I didn’t make the reader that shy, but I like the little conversation they had. Thank you for requesting a Luke imagine. Note, this is very weird when it comes to timing. i made it so it was like Lukes group got to hilltop before the whole jesus graveyard debacle. *ALL ASL IS IN ITALICS*
----------
Luke stood under the bright Virginia sun watching the people of Hilltop begin their day.
He and the rest of his group had been at the community for a few days now and he was starting to feel at home. Although, any place that they stayed for more than a night tended to feel that way. However, he had a feeling that this time would be different.
Yumiko was finally feeling better and she and Magna had taken to assisting with guard duty, giving some of the resident Hilltop soldiers a few extra hours of sleep. Connie and Kelly had also offered to help by hunting and helping around the community with whatever was needed. Luke, however, hadn't found his place quite yet.
Tara was great and she assured him that for now all he needed to do was settle in and that soon enough, there would be something for him to do. Being on the road for so long, Luke wasn't very good at doing nothing. Ever since the Turn, he had been fighting, scavenging, running, and of course trying to look after his people. The fact that he now had what Connie called "leisure time", it felt unnatural and he wanted to fix that right away.
Enid had already kicked him out of her infirmary twice. Luke wasn't a doctor by any means but he had helped stitch up Magna multiple times and he knew his way around basic first aid, but Enid had assured him that she was fine. Eventually, he gave up and went to sit at one of the guard posts, giving a guard a break for a bit.
That’s where Alden found him.
Luke had liked the guy immediately. Alden was a blacksmith for Hilltop and also Enid's boyfriend. He had introduced himself when Luke and his people had ridden up to Hilltop with Michonne and the others and the two had become fast friends.
"You know, staring at nothing isn't exactly being on guard," Alden said, pulling Luke's attention back to the present.
"Right, sorry," Luke said, shaking his head slightly.
"Get any sleep?"
"If by ‘sleep’ you mean pure bliss, then yes, yes I did," Luke said with a grin. Alden understood immediately.
"I know the feeling. Nothing like those first few nights when you know you're safe and you don't have to sleep with one eye open."
"I guess that's the beauty of places like this," Luke said, gesturing around. "You been here long?"
"Just over seven years now," Alden said, "I was here during and after the War and then just sort of never left." Luke furrowed his brow.
"This war," he began, "I heard someone else mention something about it at breakfast. You guys really fought a whole other community?"
"Not just Hilltop," Alden explained, "It was us, Alexandria, and two other communities called The Kingdom and Oceanside. We fought against the Saviors, a massive group of people led by a man named Negan. Luckily we won, but there were casualties."
"Anyone you knew?" Alden nodded solemnly.
"Yeah. I was a part of the Saviors at first and we lost a lot of people at the start," he said awkwardly, "then, Jesus and Maggie, the leaders of Hilltop, took us hostage and eventually some of us convinced them to let us fight. Not everyone was as loyal to Negan as others." Luke nodded. He could imagine that none of what Alden was talking about was as simple as it seemed.
"What happened to him? Negan?" Luke asked.
"Ah, well, he's still alive," Alden revealed, "yeah, he's locked up in Alexandria. Grimes family keeps him under lock and key."
"Grimes? Like Michonne and Judith?"
"Yeah and the smallest one, RJ," said Alden before his face fell a bit more, "There were two others. Carl, Judith's older brother who died near the end of the war and then Rick Grimes...he saved us all about six years ago. He sacrificed himself for everyone. He was a good man."
"I wish I could have met him," Luke said honestly.
"Yeah," Alden said with a crooked smile, "but those kids of his are gonna be just like him and something tells me they’ll be the last survivors of this world."
Luke and Alden continued talking about everything from the War to the latest drama that was going on within the communities. Apparently, the Kingdom, ruled by King Ezekiel and Queen Carol, was going to be hosting a fair that would promote trade between the communities.
Luke thought it was a great idea. Bring some normalcy back into the crazy world. He missed simple things like that, just interacting with other people and having conversations that weren't about the Dead or whether or not they'd get enough food for winter.
Not that Hilltop had a food shortage. Luke was in awe at how much grain and vegetables they were producing. It was incredible to see how self-sustaining the Hilltop was and he especially enjoyed a particular view from where he stood next to Alden.
Luke had first seen you the day Michonne had brought him and his people in. You had been sitting in the shade of Barrington house adding feathers to arrows. You looked so relaxed as you did your task, your hands moving on autopilot. As Luke watched you, it was Connie who noticed his immediate interest.
Connie has just winked at him with one of her famous smiles. In return, Luke had used some colorful signs that Kelly had taught him recently which only made Connie laugh. It was the first time in a while she had laughed and so Luke had let the teasing continue as long as it made his friend happy.
However, a few days later and Luke was eager to finally have a chance to talk to you. "Who is that?" Luke asked, pointing to you as you stood in the field speaking to Tara. Alden followed his eye line.
"(Y/N)," he said, "she's originally from Oceanside but moved here after the War. She became really close to Tara and moved to Hilltop to help build up the agricultural and resource farming."
"(Y/N)...," Luke said, testing your name on his tongue. Alden caught on just as quick as Connie had.
"She's quiet, but once you get her talking, it's almost impossible to get her to stop," Alden said with a smile. "She's also a killer shot with a bow." When Luke looked back at his new friend, Alden was giving him a knowing look.
“Oh, shut up,” Luke said as he pushed away from the wall and headed down the ladder. Alden’s laughter followed him as he headed back towards Barrington, looking for his friends. He found Connie first as she was heading out of the stables. He waved at her and she returned the greeting.
The two of them settled at one of the tables in front of the colonial house and Luke immediately dropped his head to the table in defeat. He could hear Connie laugh slightly and then she was lightly touching his arm. He peeked up at her. “What’s up?” she signed.
“Nothing,” he signed back and Connie narrowed her eyes. She then raised her right hand with her pointer finger and passed it across her chin. The sign for “lie”. Luke scoffed and sat up fully.
“How’s Kelly?” Luke asked, trying to change the subject. Connie pursed her lips but answered him anyways. The two of them talked for a while and Luke finally began to relax. Connie was telling him everything that she had learned about the community and how nice the people were as they waited for her to write things down.
Connie explained that Kelly was still a bit wary of the new place as were Yumiko and Magna, but Luke knew those three were like that with every new place they went. It was understandable and he knew that their instincts had saved them multiple times in the past. He did, however, wish Magna would give more people the benefit of the doubt. Luke only hoped that their relationship with Alexandria wouldn’t be affected due to Michonne and Magna’s clear dismissal of each other.
Since the start of everything, Luke had learned quickly how to judge new people he had met on the road. After meeting both docile and hostile individuals throughout the Apocalypse, it was almost as if he developed another sense for the intentions of others. It was clear to him that the people of Alexandria and Hilltop were good and for once, he didn’t feel on edge all the time.
As Connie told him about a moment from earlier in the day, Luke became distracted as you strolled through the gates, wiping your hands on your jeans. Connie’s hands paused and followed Luke’s gaze as he followed you through Hilltop. You headed for the water tank, eager to cool down after working in the field all morning. Suddenly, Connie kicked Luke under the table.
“Dude!” Luke exclaimed out loud. Connie pointed at you and then hooked her finger in a question. Luke rolled his eyes. “You and Alden are annoying,” he signed and Connie just grinned at him. Glancing over at you again, Connie winked at Luke and got up from the table. Luke tried to grab her arm, but Connie danced out of the way, still smiling.
Luke ducked down and watched as she strolled over to you. Connie gently tapped you on the shoulder and you turned to her with a smile. Connie raised her notebook and introduced herself. Luke watched as you shook her hand and then wrote your name on the pad of paper as Connie offered it to you.
He couldn’t help but smile as he watched you patiently wait for Connie to write and then how you made sure to keep eye contact while you spoke to her. It was such a small thing, but Luke felt warmth in his chest as he watched you and one of his best friends interact. Eventually, Connie asked if you needed any help and you gratefully accepted, handing her an empty crate for harvesting and gestured back out to the fields. As you and Connie passed Luke, Connie turned to look at her friend and sent him a wink. Luke’s forehead found the tabletop once again as embarrassment swelled in his chest. That woman never missed a thing.
------
Later that night, Luke couldn’t sleep.
His mind would not shut down and while he felt safe and comforted by the walls of Barrington House, he needed some fresh air to clear his head. He walked the perimeter of the community, lightly dragging his hands along the steel walls. The night air was warm and a slight breeze ruffled the nearby trees, drowning out any Walkers that loomed in the distance.
As he walked towards the rear of Barrington House, he heard someone as they softly sang to themselves. Peering around the corner, he froze as he saw it was you. Luke watches as you carried crates of food towards the main storage area all while you sang in a low voice. Not wanting to disturb you, Luke waited in the shadows, listening to the melodies that escaped your lips.
You worked with a rhythm as you sang, keeping as quiet as possible to not disturb the residents of Hilltop. It took him a moment, but soon Luke recognized the song as Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird”. It was one of his favourites from the rock band. Your voice was like honey on a warm day. There was no effort behind every note you sang and you even added subtle nuances in the bridge and chorus. It was near mesmerizing to him as he listened.
All-day, Luke had been trying to come up with an excuse to talk to you, and here you were locked in your own world as you swayed along to the music you created. When the song finished and the final note disappeared into the night, Luke finally got his courage back.
“That’s nice,” he said, causing you to jump. The crate of lettuce fell to the ground and you tripped, falling along with it. Luke rushed forward, already grimacing. “I’m so sorry,” he said, reaching for you. You took his offered hands and let him pull you to your feet.
“It’s fine,” you said, “I just didn’t expect anyone to be out here this late. You know, besides the guards.” Luke realized he was still holding your hands and quickly let go.
“Still, I shouldn’t have scared you,” he said sheepishly. You smiled at him kindly and Luke felt his heart skip at the beauty of it. “I’m Luke,” he introduced.
“(Y/N),” you said. “You’re Connie’s friend, right?” Luke nodded.
“Yeah we go way back,” he said awkwardly.
“Way back, huh?” you asked, trying not to laugh. “As in before the Walkers showed up?”
“Okay, maybe not that far,” he said with a soft laugh.
“It’s weird to think about time sometimes, don’t you think?” you asked as you bent down to start picking up the lettuce. Luke bent down and started to help.
“Here let me,” he said, grabbing more crates. “Least I can do for sneaking up on you.” You nodded and accepted his help, grabbing the food and the two of you began to finish your task together. As you carried food and supplies to storage, Luke would steal small glanced at you in the low light. If you noticed, you didn’t let him know. Although he thought at one point he saw you smile when you caught him looking at you.
As you worked, you talked about little things. He asked you about Oceanside and you asked him about living on the road. It was a normal conversation for the time. People were always wondering what others did before settling down somewhere. Your conversation with Luke was no different. Slowly, you began to open up a bit more. You weren’t sure why Luke was bringing so much out of you, but it felt nice to talk to someone other than Tara for once.
“What did you do before the Turn?” you asked him as you loaded the final crate of vegetables and locked up behind you.
“I was a music teacher,” Luke told you as the two of you began walking towards the front of Barrington. “What about you?” he asked.
“I worked on my family’s farm,” you said, stuffing your hands in the pockets of your jeans. “Then when I wasn’t taking care of the animals or tending to the crops, I used to sing at the local cafe. It wasn’t much, but they paid me enough to make a rainy day fund.” You leaned over and bumped his shoulder playfully, “Hey, maybe we can duet some time.” Luke smiled, looking down at his boots.
“I’d like that,” he said with a grin. You mirrored his look as you found a spot in front of one of the smaller campfires. Luke joined you, warming his hands by the flames. Your presence alone was incredibly comforting and Luke realized Alden had been right about you. Once he got you talking, you began telling him anything that was on your mind.
“You know what I miss?” you asked, fiddling with a piece of grass between your fingers. “Carnivals,” you said.
“Carnivals?” Luke repeated.
“Yeah, what’s wrong with that?” you asked with a laugh. Luke raised his hands in surrender.
“Nothing! It’s just not what I expected you to say,” he admitted.
“There was just something so weird and fun about them,” you said, looking off into the distance. “Sketchy rides, fried food, and rigged games, they were all a part of my childhood.”
“I can’t say I went to many as a kid,” Luke said, smiling over at you.
“Well, If I find an abandoned one in this hellhole, I will let you know and I will take you to a carnival. It probably won’t be too interesting without, you know, people, but I think we can make it work.”
“I’d like that,” Luke said.
“Okay, what about you?” you asked, turning to him, bringing your knees up to your chest. “What do you miss?”
“So much,” he said with a longing look. “I miss restaurants, cars, concerts, movie theaters, and especially just being able to walk outside without carrying a weapon.” Luke realized he was going on a bit of a tangent and quickly stopped talking, but you didn’t seem bothered by it all. It was rare when you got to talk to people like this, especially new people.
“I get that,” you said, quietly. “There was this one time,” you began, “I was doing a theme night at the cafe where I sang at and it was 80’s night. I was doing all the old ballads and there was this one audience member who kept giving me a standing ovation after every song, no matter what. I thought he was some creepy guy who just wanted to get noticed, you know?”
“Absolutely,” Luke agreed.
“So, I finish my set and then head to get something to drink when the guy comes up to me. He starts talking to me like we know each other and it isn’t until about ten minutes into the conversation, that I realize I did know him after all. He and I had grown up together and I hadn’t even recognized him. We weren’t even in the same state from when we were kids and suddenly this guy I knew as a kid just happened to show up at my gig.”
“Small world,” Luke said.
“That’s exactly my point,” you explained, “I used to think our world was so much bigger than this, but I guess it’s a lot smaller than I always thought. Like, what are the odds that I would meet you? A music teacher turned Walker-fighter?”
“Don’t tell me you’ve found a bright side to the Apocalypse?” Luke asked, amused.
“Would that be so bad?” you asked with a grin. “This is our life now, I don’t see why we can’t find those silver linings.” Luke thought about your words then and he realized you were right. Being on the run for so long, he had forgotten to just take a second and enjoy the little things that peeked through the darkness of the new world. He never thought he would find a home like Hilltop or even have friends like Alden. And yet, here he was, sitting in front of a campfire with a beautiful girl talking about carnivals and music and it made him smile.
“I guess it wouldn’t be bad at all,” Luke said, and then feeling bold, he reached out and gently brushed a leaf that had stuck to your shirt. Your eyes followed his movement and when he finally looked back at you, your eyes met.
“Has anyone ever told you that you have a beautiful smile?” you asked. Luke hadn’t even noticed he was still smiling.
“You would be the first,” he admitted.
“I don’t believe that,” you whispered. Suddenly, a yawn took over you and Luke noticed immediately. “Guess my fatigue is going to win in the end after all.” You stood from your seat and Luke followed.
“I should be getting to bed too,” Luke said, but it looked as if neither of you wanted to leave.
“Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer for a duet soon,” you said.
“Anytime,” Luke said, completely enamored by the way the fire lit up your features.
“Goodnight, Luke,” you said softly.
“Goodnight, (Y/N).” You stepped towards him and placed a soft kiss on his cheek quickly before turning and walking up to Barrington to get some sleep. Luke watched after you, his hand coming up to touch his cheek where you had kissed him. Slowly, he began to come out of the trance you had placed him in and then he noticed Connie as she walked back through the gates. Connie jogged up to his side and noticed his face.
“What?” she signed. Luke smiled at her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
“I just really like it here,” he signed with his right hand. Connie grinned at him and leaned into him as they walked into Barrington to where the rest of their family were sleeping.
Luke may not have figured out his exact place or purpose in Hilltop, but one thing was for sure, he wanted it to be near you.

okay, i have two answers for this.  one about actually writing and one about him / why i connected with him to begin with.
1)  writing his dialogue is fun.  i always have a lot more fun with a character’s inner dialogue and thoughts than i do with the actual words they speak,  unless a character has a very specific way of talking  ---  which alden does.  sometimes even out of the dialogue, i find myself typing in a way that he would speak until i catch myself and realize i don’t need to do that when he’s not actually talking.  he has a very specific voice so it’s something i can constantly be thinking about.
2)  his logic / ability & desire to see things from everyone’s perspective is something i really relate to.  my favorite types of characters are the characters who seem to be doing the exact same thing the protagonists are doing,  but they’re framed as the antagonists,  so the viewers / other characters don’t want to see things from their perspective or to accept that sometimes, the protagonists are just as bad as the villains they face.  alden isn’t necessarily this character;  he’s the character doing the calling out whenever a protagonist is acting exactly like an antagonist or whoever they deem the bad guy  (  like when he told rick that he was behaving exactly like negan,  and he was absolutely justified in saying that.  )    he thinks logically.  he wants to understand everything from everyone’s perspective.  he wants to believe that there are more sides to each story than the ones they see.  he understands that people need the chance to prove their worth / earn their trust, rather than to be written off just because of their reputation  (  like he had been at hilltop when he first arrived.  )  he’s just a very well-rounded person in that sense,  and that’s what i love to write about most in interactions with people he does know well and who he doesn’t know well.  it’s just fun and already something i do in terms of comparing a character’s actions to everyone else’s to look at who really is in the wrong / deserves to be caught some slack.

MEETING THE SAVIORS.
“i was —– i was by myself for a while.  then i found a safe place.  buncha survivors,  buncha tough guys,  too.  eventually,  one of them took over.  and another one took over.  but i wasn’t really paying much attention,  ‘cause you know,  i was gettin’ fed.“
after a little while longer of being on his own,  he found the sanctuary.  it was smaller then and  negan wasn’t in charge yet.  the people there asked how he had survived so far,  and alden was honest with them.  normally,  he was always careful about how much of himself he gave away based on who he was talking to,  but telling his real story felt like the best option here.  when they found out how long he survived on his own,  and what he did to the people who killed his brother,  they saw value in him ———  especially knowing that he could make his own weapons.  alden didn’t question it when they accepted him in,  because all he could see was that this was a community with fences and other ways to keep walkers / outside forces out,  and after so long of not having any of that,  he wanted something to believe in.
this relates to something another savior once said:  “the saviors,  they saw me.  they thought i was worth a damn,  so they helped me.”  this is very much alden’s mindset;  someone saw something in him,  and he thought that meant he could help them,  all the while,  they were helping him too.  at least that’s what he thought in the beginning  ——-  coming out of it later on,  he knew they weren’t helping him in the end.
THE SANCTUARY.
alden spent most of his time building weapons for the saviors.  he kept to himself,  never really getting close to anyone else,  focusing on his job instead.  the leaders kept changing,  it eventually grew darker there, and once negan took over, alden didn’t even realize just how bad it had truly gotten.  he rarely ever interacted with negan personally. most of his experiences with him were in large groups, namely when negan would address the saviors as a whole. if he ever did interact with him one-on-one, he listened to what he said, and did as he was told —- his own survivor’s move, knowing there was no other option because he assumed this was the only place for him.  he was aware he wasn’t a good guy,  and that’s why he obeyed him,  because he was always focused on logic.  acting out wasn’t an option,  because it might mean being kicked out of the one place of shelter he’s ever had.  he was too focused on that safety to remember that the only way to maintain who he was was to actually leave this place.
he was hardly used as a soldier.  his skills were better used in the factory building weapons for them.  this was relieving for him,  because the stories he heard about the missions they were sent on never set well with him.  he wasn’t a violent guy, and hearing what they were forced to do to strangers bothered him  ——-  yet he knew he would have to do it too if he was ever brought on a mission,  and he accepted that  (  still just focusing on thinking he had to be thankful for being here. )  he felt in debt to them,  which was dangerous for his own mindset.  he wouldn’t have been very useful on missions anyway.  he doesn’t have the same menacing / threatening demeanor as a lot of the saviors have.  his features always read that of a kind-hearted guy, but placed in that kind of environment,  it’s easy to be hesitant to trust that.
this doesn’t mean he’s innocent.  he went along with things,  he let things happen,  he killed,  he hurt,  and he taunted when he had to.  though he could avoid most missions,  there were some that weren’t an option of missing,  but he was normally on the outskirts,  never the one threatening anyone because he simply wasn't the intimidating guy that could uphold those missions.  he helped with missions because he was focused on his own survival, knowing that this could be the only way for him, and he still felt like he owed a debt to them for taking him in.  he wasn't part of the main mission to stop rick's group from getting maggie to hilltop; as a worker, he was left back at the sanctuary to keep building up their defenses.
THE SATELLITE.
“—– i’m good with my hands.  they sent me over to the satellite place to put up a fence.”
upon discovering alden’s background and hearing some of his ideas when it comes to the safety of the sanctuary,  he was sent to the satellite place to build fences and give the more options after rick’s group’s attack. he was more comfortable living there,  both because he enjoyed building the fences + doing something he used to love doing,  but also because the people there were a bit more comfortable to be around than the main sanctuary site.  and though he didn’t often interact with negan personally,  there was comfort in knowing he likely wouldn’t come around the satellite often.  though he was around less people there, he still never got close to anyone.  these weren’t his kind of people;  it was just a place that he was supposed to survive.  he’s the one who came up with the idea of building a moat around the outpost;  it felt like a less violent way of keeping people out,  and he’d much rather take those odds than whatever else they may be forced to do.
“living sounds good to me.”
when rick’s group attacks the satellite again,  and people start shooting,  alden doesn’t go towards the chaos.  he stays back,  leading the group he’s with and insisting it’s the best idea.  he tells them they will be ready to attack once the group comes towards him,  but that was never his intention.  he always wanted to surrender.  when the battle began,  he already knew that this was his opportunity to get out of the sanctuary.  he didn’t know he wanted to be a part of this group;  he just wanted OUT.  and if they surrendered,  then maybe they would have a chance.  the group didn’t know that was his plan,  because he knew that they were all trained to fight.
it was alden who offered to open the door when the militia was outside of it.  he didn’t want to fight this battle;  he knew it wasn’t smart,  and he also knew what he was supposed to be fighting for wasn’t worth it. he knew that if it could be him in front,  then he had a better chance at getting them all to surrender than to have to fight back,  even if that meant he could likely be shot on sight.  he never intended to fire his gun,  and he was relieved to see he never had to,  even if it meant becoming their prisoner afterwards.  it was still better than living his life there.  it’s rare that the saviors ever surrender,  always preferring to go down fighting if they have to,  but they surrendered.  alden was in charge of that.
