Just finished reading an article from ScreenRant (yes, why did I even bother? I don’t know) from before SoD came out about the “10 reasons why Newt and Jacob aren’t actually friends” or some such, and.... 

It pissed me off

because the whole thing was essentially just someone very clearly NOT understanding autism and NOT understanding how neurodivergent (and specifically autistic) people may display fondness for another 

Furthermore, the article talks about how “oh, they don’t really know each other at all because all they do is go to battles and keep escaping danger” and it is INCREDIBLY clear that whoever wrote the article has never been in the [actual or metaphorical] trenches with someone. I spent 4 years working with a random dude on child abuse cases, and--by the end of it--we were super close friends, I wrote his recommendation for grad school, we played chess over facetime all through covid, he was best man in my WEDDING, and we still chat twice a month even though we have, technically, pretty little in common and even though we haven’t worked together in almost 5 years (and yes, we’re both neurodivergent).

But yeah, tell me again how Newt and Jacob aren’t friends.

thinking about UE!Cross and his dragon self. hes from Agùfdof - an icy, mostly mountainous territory, and many of the dragoneborne have wings so they can fly to the top of their hills and mountains to sunbathe. Cross doesnt HAVE wings, and spent a long time thinking they'd just 'grow in' except they never DID, and as such, he never got to go sunbathe, which as a dragonborne, and a as such, a coldblooded creature, meant he got sick very often. Xgaster always left him without proper food, or a healer, because he believed his Heir needed to 'toughen up and get over it' - which is something Cross internalised.

so, when he joins the party, and they get to Nightmares island and bond, and he eventually opens up about this all, his surprised one day, when hes brought to a turret on the castle, with steps circling up to the top of the roof, in the exact spot the sun falls on when it rises first thing in the morning; the perfect place for him to curl up and enjoy both the warm sun rays, and the cool sensation of dawn that his ice dragon self needs.

SO! imagine one of the above scenarios happens, jouno can see again yay! now here's what happens: reuniting with tecchou.

jouno can see his boyfriend. see tecchou's face, his expressions, how he moves, and all the weird food combos he eats. he can look into tecchou's eyes. and tecchou can look into his eyes.

now this is just me, but i want jouno to have like, electric blue eyes. not red, not pink (albinism??), but like, "the sky called it wants its color back" eyes. so striking against the red of his hair, that people turn and stare when he walks by type of BLUE eyes. the water in jamaica is jealous, that's how blue i need his eyes to be.

and i need tecchou to be obsessed with it.

the first time i played ISAT i levelled everyone up to their max and it made everything so much easier because I decided to do it in act 3. nothing stood a chance to me. i one shot most enemies no matter the attack type

but now i have a BRAND NEW save file and just thinking about spending AT LEAST 6 hours running back and forth beating up sadnesses for some XP is exhausting

Academic whinging

I have round one of interviews for this $25k scholarship for an extra year of PhD studies this evening. If I make it through this round, I get nominated to the national level. It was a last-minute scheduled Zoom meeting, and I am not fond of last minute change, so I am really quite nervous. I know this is the kind of thing where I have to focus on the impact of my research instead of the details that fascinate me (broad strokes, not pointillism, even though I am very much a pointillist thinker…)

I’m not the best at selling myself, so I can only hope my passion for my work shines through to dominate the more awkward aspects of my professional interactions.

Le sigh.

Guess I’m going to get lost in organizing data in an excel sheet to regulate my emotions for the next few hours, Lmaooo
