I’ve just got this very distinct scene in my mind of Error and Ink holding on while being pulled into something and theyre about to both be yanked into it to some horrible fate and Error is trying to hold onto Ink and their last hold on safety, but he can’t hold on forever. And Ink was legitimately terrified, feeling true fear for the first time and actually admits it to Error. And …Error has an last ditch idea to save them, but he doesn’t like it.

“Ink…Ink, I have to let you go, okay?”

“What?! Error, you can’t!” Ink cried out and he can’t hear all the terror in it as he glances back to the force trying to pull them, the massive magic whirlpool.

He’s gripping Error’s hand so tightly and Error can feel him trembling…he’s shaking too, but he knows they’ll be pulled in for certain if he does nothing.

“Ink, I need you to trust me! I’m not gonna let anything happen to you, alright? Please, it’ll be okay! I promised, remember? I promise nothing bad will happen.”

And Ink in that moment truly does believe him. He’s so scared and it’s the last thing he wants to do and the distant sane part of him says that this is a trick, that Error only wants to save himself and that Ink is a fool to have ever believed him. If he’s wrong, it will be his downfall. But they’ll both die together if he doesn’t, and even if it’s a betrayal, Ink can say he wants that either for whatever hell they’re at the mouth of.

Though when he tried to search for any lie in Error’s eye lights as he struggles to hang onto ink for just a few more moments, Error looks back at him with the most earnest look of concern he’d ever seen from him, and clearly he’s unsure and worried…but the resolve Ink sees there is what does it. Error is practically pleading with him to believe him, and Ink does. With every part of his being he knows Error will come for him or die trying, and that’s enough for him. If they fail, at least it won’t be an eternity with someone who doesn’t love him.

Ink’s hand is trembling as he forces his grip on Error’s wrist to relax. Error is the only one keeping them together now and he shakily lets out the breath he was holding as he gazes at ink and doesn’t know how he ever earned that trust. He swears he won’t live to ever see it broken.

He doesn’t break eye contact in the moment he has to take Ink in once more, and he tells himself it isn’t just in case because he will not live to fail this person. He won’t.

He let Ink go.
