Understanding the Retail and E-commerce Landscape
The retail and e-commerce industry is a highly dynamic and competitive space. Companies within this domain face the continuous challenge of pricing their products right to maximize profitability while staying attractive to their customers. In this context, pricing becomes a critical element of their strategy. Let's delve into some of these challenges:
Rapidly Changing Market Dynamics: Retail and e-commerce markets are highly volatile, with ever-shifting consumer preferences and market trends. Adapting to these changes in real-time is essential to stay competitive. Without the right tools, businesses risk making pricing decisions that are out of sync with market realities.
Intense Competition: In retail and e-commerce, competition is fierce. With numerous players offering similar products or services, pricing becomes a key differentiator. Setting prices too high can drive customers away, while pricing too low can erode profit margins.
Complex Supply Chain and Cost Structures: The retail and e-commerce sector often deals with complex supply chain operations and cost structures. Understanding the true costs associated with a product or service is essential for setting optimal prices. Traditional methods of cost calculation can be time-consuming and error-prone.
Customer Behaviour and Expectations: Today's consumers are more informed and price-sensitive than ever before. Their buying behaviour can change rapidly in response to various factors, including promotions, discounts, and market trends. Retailers must be agile in responding to these changes.
Competitor Pricing Strategies: Keeping a constant eye on competitor pricing is crucial. Businesses need to respond promptly to pricing moves made by competitors to remain competitive. Manual tracking and analysis of competitor pricing are arduous and inefficient processes.

Thrifted Treasures: LJ's Journey in Sustainable Fashion Entrepreneurship
by Jerraine Sy and Jose Carlos Morata
Tumblr media
Leila Jazel Madelar, who goes by the name LJ, is a student at National University Fairview pursuing BS Tourism. LJ is the proud owner of Madie's Wardrobe, where she sells curated thrifted clothes through her Facebook page and ships them out via Shopee Checkout. LJ's commitment to sustainability and supporting local businesses is an appropriate match for our theme, which emphasizes the advantages that thrifted clothing has for the economy and the environment.
In the vibrant world of ukay-ukay, LJ encountered unpredictable situations as an entrepreneur. This is not new to the business world, especially in the ukay-ukay culture. Although she handpicked these items rather than buying in bulk, sometimes they do not appeal to people's tastes or align with current trends. The importance of adaptability in overcoming obstacles is truly essential, as mismanaging this aspect could result in profit loss.
She discusses the diverse attitudes of customers and the challenges in ensuring they follow instructions. Despite that, she employs patience and takes the time to educate customers on the checkout process, maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction. True success lies in maximizing profitability. When she receives the profit, it marks the culmination of her efforts as a dedicated businesswoman.
LJ sets herself apart by focusing on offering affordable sets, steering away from the trend of overpricing items observed in similar shops. This strategy has contributed to the success of Madie's Wardrobe. She handpicks each item from various thrift stores, personally fitting them and curating a collection through meticulous examination. This attention to detail ensures a curated and quality inventory. She observes the thrift clothes market trends and notes the enduring popularity of items like crop tops and pants. She also stays attuned to customer preferences, adapting her inventory to meet the ongoing demands of the market.
Tumblr media
The virtue of patience is the most significant lesson that she teaches. Managing several projects at once is part of being a lone owner, and even with diligent attention to detail, problems can still occur. Maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction requires flexibility and responsiveness to any issues that might arise. LJ advises aspiring thrift clothes sellers to embrace hard work and be prepared to take risks. She emphasizes the importance of having a backup plan to avoid losses and ensure success. Aspiring thrift store vendors should accept hard labor and be willing to take calculated chances, according to Leila. She strongly expresses that to prevent losses and guarantee success, a backup plan is essential. The importance of preparedness for potential challenges cannot be overstated; it forms the backbone of a resilient business strategy. It's important to have a backup plan within a backup plan, as this provides greater control in uncertain situations.
To sum up, LJ's experience selling used clothing is proof of her tenacity, enthusiasm, and steadfast dedication to her clients' needs. Madie's Wardrobe is a source of inspiration for aspiring businesses that want to enter the realm of online thrifted clothes sales in addition to providing reasonably priced apparel.

Forging of Empires
Cast out by the empire she ruled. Officially classified as “deceased.” Betrayed. Ravonna Lexus Renslayer remains beaten but not defeated. She has never known when to quit, and doesn’t plan on learning now. But when she gets entangled in yet another plot laid by Kang, will she sacrifice herself and her ideals? Or will she terminate all that stand before her and her mission: Restore the Sacred Timeline. No matter the cost. And this time Ravonna will make sure she's the one on top. She’s fighting for herself. For all time, always. Or a story dedicated to Ravonna’s descent into her supervillain era.
**edit: this story is mostly on hiatus. The plot needs way more time and attention than I can give it. But who knows? Maybe one day I’ll come back to this (so not deleting it). ❤️**
Chapter One
Sweat trickled down the base of Ravonna’s neck as she monitored the desert temple below her. It was hot, hotter than usual for the desert planet of Untwoine. A harsh wind flew through the valley and a metallic, almost electric, taste settled over her tongue. The air crackled with energy.
It wouldn’t be long now.
In the sacristy below, a mage captured a free-flowing strand of quantum energy and fashioned it into a mirage of a roaring dragon. The dragon leapt through the crowd, bouncing off vendors’ carts and temple spires, before it jumped back into the large chasm that cut through the temple pavilion. Children squealed in delight at the spectacle which even Ravonna had to admit was impressive. In all her existence—however long that was—she couldn’t remember seeing anything like it.
Another rush of wind brought the smell of fresh baked goods from the market below causing Ravonna’s stomach to rumble. It had been too long since she’d eaten anything other than stolen TVA nutrition bars and, Sacred Timeline, those sweets smelled good. Ravonna’s sweet tooth was a closely guarded secret; only one person had ever figured it out. Her former partner and closest friend: Mobius.
Ravonna’s mouth quirked unwittingly into a smile as memories of Mobius rushed to the forefront of her mind. He would have loved this place. The festival. The temple. The market. It was so full of life. He certainly wouldn’t miss the opportunity to swing by that market; he was always bringing her back sweets from The Timeline for them to share. Unapproved, of course. She really should have reported those infractions. The smile slid from her face. …She really should have reported a lot of Mobius’ infractions. If she had, maybe she wouldn’t be in this mess.
Ravonna shook her head and refocused her attention on the chasm that cut through the town below her. She ignored the rumbling in her stomach and the memories that threatened to pull her under. She couldn’t afford to be distracted by frivolities. She had a mission to accomplish.
There were various modes of time travel technology across the multiverse but devices powered by quantum ore remained the most efficient. Unsurprisingly, quantum ore was the most dangerous and expensive fuel to obtain. Few were willing to risk a trip to the quantum realm. But here on Untwoine, once every 3,141,592 years, a natural rift opened up between the two realms and quantum ore flowed freely, ready for the taking.
Ravonna needed it. The collapse of the Sacred Timeline had the unintended effect of exploding demand for quantum ore— diminishing supply resulted. It was only a matter of time before various time managing organizations would be forced into a war over the resource, no matter how much they might proclaim peace.
Ravonna scoffed. The war would be futile. Mobius and those pesky Lokis would figure it out eventually. The multiverse was too chaotic to survive. Eventually, everything would be pruned back into order and The Sacred Timeline would return. It always did. Chaos to order to chaos, ebbing and flowing like the tides of the sea. There was only one man powerful enough to bring order and rule all of time; only one man it ever had been and ever would be. Him.
Ravonna needed to find him. Each second of needless chaos meant exponentially more branches to prune, more lives lost, more horrors unleashed. Mobius might think her a villain but wasn’t it more humane to stop the suffering before it could even begin? Life destined for death was a cruel waste. Ravonna needed this quantum ore to continue her search for the one variant she was positive could re-establish The Sacred Timeline and save them all.
Kang the Conqueror.
This time Ravonna would rule by his side. She would make sure of it.
A blinding white light erupted from the portal below her. Ravonna lowered the visor on her helmet and checked the quantum monitor on her suit—the peak extraction opportunity was approaching. She readied the quantum tank at her side and unsheathed her weapon.

The Siren’s Song
Tumblr media
@shallyne Here’s the kickoff!
PLEASE REFER TO AO3 FOR FUTURE UPDATES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Siren's Song Masterlist
Summary: After pushing the limits of the peace treaty between the merfolk below and seamen above, Feyre finds herself snared by the Captain of Hewn Harbor. Knowing she can’t survive on land for extended periods of time, she agrees to a bargain of Rhysand’s creation, in time surrendering to the cost neither of them predicted.
But then, when do matters of the heart follow a rule book?
~~~~~
Chapter I: Hewn Harbor
Feyre
She knew better than to be heading for the surface. Yes, out of the water her deep blue scales and fins turned to human legs. It was easy enough to visibly masquerade as a human. But the second she opened her mouth to ask for something she was at risk of a true human recognizing her natural gift of compulsion. Even if Feyre didn't sing above the waves, a natural allure would always lie beneath her words.
Her kind were silver-tongued.
They were deadly.
And they were forbidden from entering human territory.
A few hundred years ago, humans and mer were two peoples at war. Pirates were drowned by song and sirens were captured and kept from the waters until they died. Finally, a former human and mer king decided enough death had been seen. The sirens would stay beneath the waves, their songs kept far below the surface where no passing ship would possibly hear them. The pirates would remain in specific waters if they wished to dive.
They were told from birth that if they were to cross paths with a human by mistake then they were to swim away, far and fast. Even standing for centuries, the treaty was a fragile thing, practically teetering on a scale to see which race would be the first to break the promise of their ancestors.
But Feyre had always been one to bend the rules, especially when it came to her middle sister, Elain. Between storm-wrecked ships and ancient sailor drownings, a few human inventions had been left to their waters, enchanting her curious sister.
Tomorrow was her birthday and Feyre needed to handle her gift. A thing or two from the array of gadgets and gizmos beyond the surf were always Feyre's gift to her—as they still managed to hold her fascination.
Elain would scold her, of course. Give a lecture along the lines of, “You know about the treaty. You're being reckless, leaving Adriata. Even if Tarquin favors you, the second he finds out where you swim off to it’ll be your head, Feyre. Taking human form, Mother help you, Feyre!”
In the end she accepted the gift, curiosity sated for the time being.
As for Tarquin’s interest in Feyre… She knew he found her attractive. Flirtation was obvious in the reasonable amount of time she spent with him, trailing behind her socialite sisters. But she had absolutely no interest in the mer king’s courtship.
Or anyone else’s for that matter.
She pushed those thoughts from her mind as she broke the surface, hiding beneath the docks. Hewn Harbor was a busy port, many sailors… unsavory, as she’d learned in the past few years she’d surfaced to collect a trinket for her sister. She’d also learned to locate the few quiet spots to get in and out of the water. Finding one now, she watched her webbed fingers change into human ones as her tail divided, a simple white cotton dress replacing the tight band of fabric that normally covered her breasts and ribs.
Adjusting her balance quickly, she slipped into the crowd of merchants, pirates, and whatever other customers milled about. With the fast-moving crowd, she wished her delicate sandals had been close-toed, but it didn’t take long to figure out how to weave through without getting trampled.
After getting an appraisal on a handful of lovely pearls, she made her way to the noisy market sector, eying novelty foods, souvenirs, clothing, and knickknacks from all over the world. Approaching the autumn equinox a few weeks from now, many of the vendors had decorated their booths in rich reds, oranges, and golds, as well as changed their wares for cooler weather.
Noticing the cloud coverage today, Feyre swiped a dark cloak to cover herself. She’d be back beneath the waves before things got too nasty. She approached a booth displaying jewelry of a great variety, both in design and material. A crystalline rose pendant caught her eye.
“I’ll take this one, please.”
The middle-aged woman smiled, not bothering with idle chatter as she accepted her payment.
“There you have it, dear.”
“Thank you.”
She frowned at the crack of thunder overhead, watching a handful of vendors close up their food and clothing booths. “Sounds like a rough one. You best run, girl. Get home quick.”
“I will.”
Hurrying back down the docks, Feyre stumbled into a trio of men who already looked half-drunk, despite the muffled daylight present. She cleared my throat. “Excuse me, gentlemen.”
They all grinned, looking like anything but gentlemen. “I haven’t seen a girl as pretty as you in ages.”
“I’m flattered. And uninterested. If you don’t mind, I need to return to my family.”
How they interpreted family was up to them. “Now, hold on a minute.”
“There you are. I’ve been looking for you.” The trio stiffened at the voice behind her. Perhaps that casual tone was something to fear when it came to the speaker. She didn’t turn to look, even as a hand came to rest between her shoulder blades. “Thank you for finding her for me. I’ll accompany her home before the storm turns.”
“Of course, Captain.”
They scurried away as Feyre let that information sink in.
Captain?
Captain.
The Jewel of Adriata, where she and her sisters resided, was beneath Hewn Harbor. Hewn Harbor was a family port. Not in the sense of being friendly to all ages, but in the sense of being under the iron grip of a powerful family line that predated the birth of the treaty. Had she bothered paying attention to whoever was currently in control of the harbor she might be prepared to face this man, but…
Feyre slowly turned, finding herself facing violet eyes and a disarming smile. He was young. Mid to late twenties, if she had to guess. And he was more beautiful than any male she’d met beneath the waters around them, siren magic be damned.
A name clicked then, whispered months ago in passing, almost as if the girl was fearful.
Rhysand Stern.
His family had been one of the most guilty when it came to hunting our kind, those years ago. Oral stories claimed the Stern family and those served it could sniff out a siren before they surfaced.
“Thank you,” she said quickly, hoping she didn't sound nervous. “I really should head home now.”
“Of course. It was my pleasure, Miss…”
“Claire.”
“Claire. I hope the next time we meet our circumstances will be better.”
She noted the angle of his body, almost amused by how he had shifted. Even the hunters couldn’t resist natural compulsion. “Safe travels, Captain.”
And with that, she headed for the sea.
Regular Security Audits: Conducting regular security audits and assessments helps identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement within existing security frameworks. By proactively addressing security gaps, organizations can enhance their resilience to potential threats.
Compliance with Regulations: Adhering to relevant data protection regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA ensures legal compliance and fosters trust among participants. Compliance frameworks outline specific requirements for data handling, storage, and processing, guiding organizations in implementing robust security measures.
Continuous Monitoring and Response: Implementing real-time monitoring systems allows organizations to detect and respond to security incidents promptly. Automated alerting mechanisms notify administrators of suspicious activities, enabling swift intervention to mitigate potential risks.
Employee Training and Awareness: Educating employees about data security best practices and the importance of safeguarding sensitive information is critical in maintaining a secure environment. Training programs raise awareness about common security threats and equip staff with the knowledge to identify and respond appropriately to potential risks.
Vendor Due Diligence: When outsourcing data collection or processing tasks to third-party vendors, conducting thorough due diligence is essential. Assessing vendor security practices and ensuring compliance with data protection standards mitigate the risk of data breaches arising from external sources.
By implementing these comprehensive strategies, organizations can uphold the integrity and confidentiality of data collected through AI-powered online market research. Prioritizing data security not only fosters trust with participants but also mitigates the risk of reputational damage and regulatory non-compliance.
i'm used to everyone on twt knowing The Gpose Tools™️ inside and out but i'm realizing that's maybe not so much the case around here? so i thought i'd quickly slap down some stuff i use (and any prerequisites they might require)! :)
dalamud: a "plugin" manager that allows you to install approved plugins and "experimental" plugins, which are similar but unique from mods; basically, they alter different things than mods. works 100% within the game itself and includes an instant launcher so u dont have to log in anymore LMAO. some cool approved plugins on it i like are "price insight" (shows you the most recent listing and purchase of an item on your server/datacenter's market boards in the item's tooltip, i like it for deciding if random junk i dont want is worth listing or if i should just vendor it) and "honorific" (allows you to give your character custom titles!)
penumbra: a mod manager within dalamud that is the basic successor of textools. it allows you to use .ttmp and .pmp files to add aesthetic mods to your game, like hairstyles, gear, vfx effects, etc. it works within dalamud and thus within game. it's probably the currently most popular way ppl make modded characters, textools (old school) being the other. you can, unlike textools, also make "collections" that only apply to certain races, genders or even only your own character.
anamnesis: a third party tool that functions outside of the game but allows for custom posing of characters and assembling gear/appearances. anything you change resets on a loading screen, but i use it for posing and also saving appearance files of various stages of l'aiha's and other characters' story. no prereqs! it works by itself.
ktisis: very similar to anamnesis but with some key differences; it's an 'experimental' dalamud plugin, meaning you have to opt into it, but it also allows for appearance editing and posing. the keyest difference is posing; rather than a divorced control panel in another window, ktisis adds the controls for posing directly onto your character, making it a little easier to see what you're moving, and allowing you to move it in gpose itself, not with an external window.
brio: GAME CHANGER. i forget what the current limit is, but brio allows you to spawn up to (last i checked) 39 replicas of your character, who can then have appearances saved in anamnesis or ktisis applied to them with ktisis (anam cannot apply them, but ktisis can load anam files). you can also apply penumbra collections to them; for example, i can tell brio "this actor uses my y'shtola collection" and it will use the mods from that collection instead of my player character's collection. no more inconspicuously standing around in gpose with your carbuncle out. :D oh, and brio is an experimental plugin in dalamud!
glamourer: experimental dalamud plugin, allows you to assemble outfits of in-game gear regardless of job and save them, making them persist across loading screens. i can finally put my red mage in aiming and striking gear LMAO.
if you're new to modding or thinking about getting into it, please remember that it is AGAINST ffxiv terms of service. that means, if squeenix finds out your specific account is doing it, they CAN ban you. all of these recommendations are made as safe and undetectable as possible by their devs, but there is always a risk.
some general advice i personally follow to protect yourself from being "provably" using mods:
- don't share your in-game name and server name simultaneously in public. this prevents bad actors from connecting your social media screenshots to your account.
- don't ever link or talk about mods in game. not in chat or your search comment. do not put a link in your search comment that leads to modded screenshots!
- DOOOOOON'T USE MODDED SCREENSHOTS IN OFFICIAL CONTESTS OR WHEN REPLYING TO SQUEENIX'S OFFICIAL TWITTERS OR WHATEVER MY GOD.
- for extra protection, i personally censor words like "mods", "plugins", "penumbra", etc most of the time, again, just to prevent bad actors from LOOKING for people to report.
squeenix is pretty chill about mods under the following conditions: 1) you can't CHEAT or IMPACT OTHER PLAYERS. an example of this would be if a mod made a one-use resource in the overworld big and bright, giving you an advantage over other players to see or click it first. 2) they're HARSHER about explicit/sexual nsfw, as the game is not rated for this content and not cracking down on it could get them in trouble. 3) certain quality of life mods can be a big problem IF you use them in things like "world first" races. an example was a player that was banned (or suspended) for using a mod that increased how far back he could scroll his camera, allowing him to see more of the battlefield. this player's group had gotten a world first omega unreal (i think?) clear and streamed himself using that camera mod to thousands of onlookers, thus their world first record was rescinded and all eight players were at least suspended, if not outright banned.
benign, aesthetic, non-advantageous mods are STILL AGAINST TOS, but they're much less likely to LOOK for your account if they see you using them. harmless appearance mods, or quality of life mods NOT used in big streams or world first races, are typically only something you'll get banned for if a reporter can prove to squeenix your screenshots/socmed/etc and your ffxiv account are both owned by you. they mostly "look the other way", so just do some basic diligence and you're 99.999% safe.
truly, i do not think aesthetic modding is risky by any means, but i always want to stress that there IS a risk, even if it is tiny, for those that may be considering getting into it. <3
apologies also for the no reblog; i don't want this getting out of my circles. i am MORE cautious than the average ffxiv modder, but i'd rather be safe than not. thank you for understanding!
EDITED TO ADD: on twt i considered myself a very casual modder. there's A LOT i don't know, understand, or could be outdated on. i JUST found out anamnesis can do the actors thing like brio can now. so apologies for any errors, i mostly intend for this to be a "where to start" resource for those interested. if you have corrections or recommendations, feel free to add them in the replies; for readers, be aware i cannot vet any reply suggestions. i chose to talk about the things i did because they are VERY safe and i've been using them for months or years. i cannot guarantee this of other suggestions! ok love u byeeeee
so because CS is all in hiding, they can't really be going to the store regularly (Kiki was going by herself w ridge for a while until everyone else showed up) for various reasons:
every member of CS stands out for being human on a moon that's almost entirely Vero
Jax and Edger specifically stand out for being bald
They can all go to the market but not all at once, and they can't really all go to the same parts of the market all the time for the risk that sharp vendors will recognize them. kiki's technically next in line for the throne but she gave up that claim (still has the title) and also tbh nobody knows what she looks like.
so when it's just Kiki, Ridge, Pai, and a few family members they manage just fine in the huge mostly empty house. the reset of CS comes and now they need way more food. Out of sheer boredom, Jax and co start making something serious of the garden at the back so they can grow as much of their own food as possible, especially when going to the market gets too dangerous (after there's a raid and after their kids are kidnapped).
It helps to keep all of them occupied too. lots of raised beds for the plants that thrive in those, certain kinds of fruit trees, a water system, maybe even a pond. theyd have to raise (small to medium sized) animals, too. a compost for everything, especially when they get into drying/canning foods for the long hauls of the empire breathing down their necks. at least the time periods of mass peeling and chopping yams is great for socialzing.
edger's a great help bc he finds a way to get all the pollinators and bugs they need into the garden while keeping out what they don't want. Jax and Cord and Marik will go hunting in the bush behind the home on occasion.
the basement is huge. who even knows how many freezers are down there. at the peak of the homes population, there's Kiki, Jax, their three kids; Marik, his wife/partner, their three kids; Ridge, Ule, their four kids; Ratchet, his wife, their one or two kids; Bliz, his partner; Edger, Cord, Kiki's aunt/second in command at the house, and some other family members. at the minimum 24 people not including the extended family beyond the aunt. the grounds are huge, the main house is massive but its massive in like the. designed to fit multiple generations kind of way. and like they've got other small houses (guest? houses?) on the property.
but yeah before Jax and the rest show up it is quite empty.
A student’s readiness to learn is often dictated by factors outside of the classroom. The pandemic highlighted the critical roles of food and housing, social and health services, supportive relationships, and youth development opportunities to student well-being and academic progress.
As schools work to remedy the negative impacts the pandemic had on students and families, educators are especially attuned to schools’ need for high-quality “student support” services. Combined with an influx of funding from federal pandemic relief aid, these circumstances have stoked demand and attracted new players to the student support market.
School districts are now inundated with “student support” service providers but have little guidance on how to select or manage them. Direct service providers–like afterschool programs and eyeglass distributors–are increasingly joined by “integrated student support” providers who specialize in how to identify student strengths and needs and then coordinate the services and opportunities available in the school, and the surrounding community, to get the right resources to the right student at the right time.
When implemented well, integrated student support drives improvements in student learning outcomes, school climate, and teacher job satisfaction. This model also benefits taxpayers by more efficiently using school and community resources to produce positive short- and long-term outcomes.
With the field’s increasing understanding of what effective student support strategies look like, policymakers should establish quality benchmarks to help districts ensure a minimum, evidence-based standard of care for students.
Managing risks and benefits in a dynamic market
New players are increasingly engaging in assessing what students need and coordinating available resources in the school community. For example, an established organization like nonprofit City Year is training Americorps members to become “student success coaches;” for-profit Panorama is building on its social-emotional screening tools to enable a whole child approach to student support; and new entrants like Welfie pledge to support schools with “an innovative Full Service Community Schools Program.”
These organizations and others are expanding the options for schools interested in developing effective integrated student support systems. They can bring innovations and cutting-edge technology, tie interventions more closely to best practices based on research, and leverage more people in schools and communities with valuable ways of supporting students. At the same time, policymakers must balance the promise of innovations with risks.
Just as the Food and Drug Administration strives to ensure that the health benefits of a new treatment outweigh potential harms, policymakers in education can use evidence to minimize potential risks and maximize the benefits of student support interventions.
Contemporary student challenges can be exacerbated by approaches that fall short of best practices. For example:
Mishandling information: Inadequate training of personnel can lead to mishandling student and family information, risking student safety and school liability;
Dropping the ball: A student shares a traumatic experience on a school-administered questionnaire but there is no follow-up, exacerbating the student’s feelings of isolation and helplessness and raising the risk of adverse student outcomes;
Missing the target: Ways to identify students with needs may not be reliable, allocating resources–including special education services–away from students who need them most.
Growth in the market for student support services must be met with an increased focus on ensuring that providers follow evidence-based best practices.
Creating Quality Benchmarks
The critical task of ensuring student support quality falls to a wide range of federal, state, and local policymakers. This should include Congress, the U.S. Department of Education, Health and Human Services, state departments of education, state health and human services, state legislatures, and local school boards and districts. All of these entities have a part to play–whether through legislation, guidance, grants, or implementation support–to ensure that students receive a baseline standard of quality care and support, and that resources, supported largely by public funds, are used effectively and efficiently.
These entities do not need to develop quality standards from scratch; rather, both research and practice can provide guidance to policymakers at every level, illuminating conditions and proven practices that can minimize risks and maximize benefits.
The first National Guidelines for Integrated Student Support provide a roadmap for how all schools can improve their approach to student support. Through a process convened by the Boston College Center for Thriving Children, where we work, consensus guidelines were developed by a national group of experts in research and practice of integrated student support.
The guidelines are consistent with professional standards, such as those of the American School Counseling Association, and give policymakers parameters to set quality benchmarks to shape the growing marketplace. For example, a quality approach to student support will:
Personalize support for every student;
Be comprehensive in addressing a student’s strengths and needs in academics, social-emotional-behavioral well-being, physical health, and family dynamics;
Function within the day-to-day operations of a school, creating a systematic approach;
Leverage the personnel and resources available in the school and the surrounding community;
Emphasize student support personnel credentials, competencies, training, and support; and
Use data for continuous improvement of implementation and evaluation of outcomes while also honoring student and family privacy.
Across the country, more than 330 schools are following best practices in student support. They are reviewing each student’s needs, creating individualized plans, following up on those plans with a combination of school and community resources, and using data to inform school-level decision making with the help of City Connects and Building Assets Reducing Risks (BARR) Center. Another 2,900 schools partnered with Communities In Schools and still others are moving towards these best practices.
Federal policymakers are also making strides towards strengthening student support in schools. Recent actions include the National Partnership for Student Success, which released voluntary quality standards, and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which invests in student support personnel and interventions. Yet these steps are moving slower than the marketplace is growing and the evidence of what works. The new National Guidelines can help policymakers align federal investments, including the Full Service Community Schools program, with evidence-based best practices so that more schools implement proven strategies.
States Leading the Way
Some state policymakers are more aggressively taking hold of the research in response to needs in their schools and communities. These states are creating demand for programs that are more likely to work for students. They are identifying interventions with defined models, aligned professional development, capacity to monitor fidelity of implementation, and a willingness to evaluate outcomes.
In Texas and West Virginia, for example, state funds are supporting the expansion of Communities In Schools. The integrated student support program places coordinators in schools to bring in needed resources and work with high-need students on individualized student support plans.
Similarly, Indiana is expanding City Connects (Disclosure: the authors are employees of the Boston College Center for Thriving Children, where the program is incubated). City Connects is an evidence-based approach to leveraging school and community resources to ensure that each student gets a tailored set of supports and opportunities to address their unique needs, strengths, and interests.
California’s $3 billion commitment to Community Schools, which includes integrated student support, is spurring the state to more rigorously define the approach and develop aligned technical assistance.
These states are taking important steps to help their schools and districts navigate a dynamic marketplace and encourage the uptake of approaches to student support more likely to yield benefits. We encourage more states to follow their lead.
Federal and State Policymakers Have Important Roles to Play
As the field of student support becomes crowded with new entrants capitalizing on financial opportunities and responding to significant student needs, policymakers at every level should establish baseline standards of quality and care. They can start by identifying research-based parameters and incentivizing the adoption of effective and cost-efficient solutions capable of mitigating harms and delivering on the promise of student support. Although coordination in disparate policymaking arenas can be challenging, a shared roadmap informed by research and practice—the National Guidelines for Integrated Student Support—we hope will prove to be a critical touchstone.
The National Guidelines for Integrated Student Support were developed by a working group of researchers from AIR, Boston College, Child Trends, Harvard University, Learning Policy Institute, University of Pennsylvania, and UCLA and practitioners from Building Assets Reducing Risks (BARR) Center, City Connects, Communities In Schools, the New York City Department of Education’s Community Schools, the National Center for Community Schools, and others. Learn more about the guidelines here.
The idea of having an online store has become a very popular method for people who are new to starting an enterprise. But, inventory is an crucial step prior to beginning a business. It could also create some risk to your finances.
Dropshipping is a well-known method of selling products without stock. Dropshipping is a method of selling products that collaborates with the supplier, who manages the ordering and distribution of the item. The seller needs to set up an online store and then promote the product. When a buyer places purchase, the vendor delivers the item directly to the buyer. Dropshipping is a fantastic alternative for jewelry sellers who wish to concentrate on selling and marketing and not worry about inventory.
Print on Demand can also another method of selling jewelry online with no inventory. Print on Demand sellers create jewelry and upload it to the platform for printing on demand. When a customer makes an order this platform print the designs onto the jewelry and then sends directly to the buyer. Print-on demand is a fantastic alternative for jewelry sellers who wish to design distinctive designs without the need to buy a lot of goods.
Affiliate marketing allows you to sell jewellery online , without having inventory through promoting other products. With affiliate marketing, retailers advertise jewelry on their websites or through social media channels. If a buyer clicks an affiliate link and then makes an purchase the seller is paid an amount of commission. Affiliate marketing is an excellent alternative for jewelry sellers who are looking to earn a profit without stock and create their own products.
