OCEANIUMS: Biomimetic Generation Of Floating And Sustainable Stadiums
Vincent Callebaut Architectures designed the OCEANIUMS project which is a biomimetic generation of floating and sustainable stadiums. Vincent Callebaut Architectures: Rather than perpetually building new stadiums for each new World Cup and Olympic Games, we propose to build cultural and sports hubs intended for nomadism at sea. Half boat, half stadium, these low-carbon community hubs would navigate thanks to renewable energies by using solar radiation and the strength of the prevailing winds, as well as the cold ocean currents of Labrador and the warm Gulf Stream.

“OCEANIUMS” by Vincent Callebaut Architectures,
Rather than perpetually building new stadiums for each new World Cup and Olympic Games, Vincent Callebaut Architectures propose to build cultural and sports hubs intended for nomadism at sea.
Half boat, half stadium, these low-carbon community hubs would navigate thanks to renewable energies by using solar radiation and the strength of the prevailing winds, as well as the cold ocean currents of Labrador and the warm Gulf Stream. I
n this nomadic vision of new sporting and cultural practices, it is no longer the supporters who go to obsolete stadiums but sustainable and ecological stadiums that go to the supporters.
These Oceaniums, true stadiums of the oceans, would be built using only biosourced and recycled materials such as solid wood, recycled aluminum, green algae and plastic waste from the 7th continent concentrated in the five oceanic gyres. This plastic waste would become new construction materials feeding 3D printers connected to human-orchestrated artificial intelligence processors.
The development of a multitude of algorithms and especially the predictive learning offered by AI and 3D printing make it an essential tool for limiting human risks on these future augmented construction sites.

Some more ideas for #FalloutOceanSong lore/story/factions. Last year architecture Vincent Callebaut came up with a vision for the future of the olympics: Oceaniums, a floating stadium. So, imagine the final Olympics before the Great War held independent of tense nations...

ok my pretentious architecture opinion of the day is that architecture is (like literally any other art form) reflective of political opinions and societal pressures of the time, ESPECIALLY as built spaces that are meant to be interacted with by large amounts of people. evaluation of architecture on aesthetic alone is a failing game (and it’s commonly how i see it discussed on here)
“green architecture” is my favorite example of this - it’s architecture that CLAIMS to be sustainable, but doesn’t actually offer living solutions that would actually be sustainable (and also it’s always less sustainable to build a whole skyscraper or mega city or whatever from the ground up but Whatever) but dresses that up by using organic forms, lots of glass, and just sort of putting trees all over the place - vincent callebaut is one of the best examples, if you look up his work you’ll definitely recognize the style. it also leans on the idea that there can be a built solution to climate change. it sucks. but it’s very pretty.
evaluated from an aesthetic level it looks great. it’s very easy to say well yeah all cities should be like this. but it’s impractical, not actually sustainable, and more flashy than Actually sustainable architecture, which isn’t as showy and doesn’t get the attention.
which is all to say if you think brutalism is ‘bad’ bc it’s ugly and modernism is ‘good’ bc it’s sleek and green architecture is flatly pretty and we should go back to rococo or whatever. you’re not thinking of architecture As An Art. and you should

Architecture The Rainbow Tree in Cebu City, Philippines – Vincent Callebaut Architectures
How is this art form expressed? This artform is expressed through the architect’s ability to combine aesthetics with efficiency and functionality. This can be expressed in things such as its concept art, blueprints and the establishment itself once it gets built. How does this unmask artist's creativity? The architect expresses their creativity through how the building can be aesthetically pleasing, how well the establishment functions (i.e structural integrity, capacity), and how it can solve modern problems, such as being more cost-efficient, reducing carbon emissions etc.

Nautilus eco ressort Vincent Callebaut Architectures is a pioneering, eco-tourism complex designed to unite the knowledge of the scientific community with the willingness of eco-tourists to optimize the revitalization and protection of a degraded ecosystem such as in the Philippines. Based on biomimicry, the architectures of this Eco-Resort are inspired by the shapes, structures, the intelligence of materials and feedback loops that exist in living beings and endemic ecosystems. By minimizing its ecological footprint, the experience is centered on the preservation of nature and local urban ecology while respecting endemic ecosystems and agro-ecosystems. While upgrading the natural heritage and culture, this zero-emission, zero-waste, zero-poverty” project will be built from reused and/or recycled materials from the archipelago. This collaborative concept offers responsible ecotourism based on education and interpretation in a natural environment, where the resources and well-being of local populations are to be preserved and gradually restored in a voluntary approach to reimburse ecological debt

Biomimicry design/architecture.
I looked into biomimicry as it relates to my ideas of using organic pink Himalayan salt and using the Dead Sea salt ponds as inspiration for my baths. A part of the research that stood out to me was: “humans have a natural affinity for nature and natural forms.” I think if I could try to produce a way that my baths or the salt walls look naturally formed that it will add to my aesthetic of the bath house; but also in regards to using salt as a material hopefully will benefit the function of the bath house - for healing purposes.
Tumblr media
I also think that if I could reproduce a way that the salt looks naturally formed, the texture of the salt will give a nice sensory experience to the user that walks through and bathes.
