realizing ive never actually explained any context for fossil fighters au so you’re at least getting an explanation of daichi and asahis deal under the cut <3

in this au (which again. have never fully explained, but its funky dinosaur battling essentially, plus aliens), asahi & daichi were friends in high school who made a promise they would become professional fossil fighters together, but once it came time to make big decisions asahi took the path of least resistance and got a shitty salary job instead, with daichi leaving to the fossil islands to go Actually Do It. (also for anyone familar with the og ff here, in this au theres essentially an archipelago with the individual islands split into the teams, rather than being one Fossil Island)

so this scene is daichi on tv achieving master status on karasuno island (think champion in pokemon). asahi, who has desperately tried not to think about fossil fighting since he gave up on it, is reminded that in that quest he has not contacted his best friend in ......... too long. and that he hates his job. and he wants Out. so he leaves him a message that basically comes out to “hi daichi ummmmmmmmmmmm idk if you still have my number so if you dont this is asahi . uh. congratulations? .... that didnt come out right. congratulations, really! sorry i never .. um. actually came out to join you. its really cool that... or. like... do you think i... no never mind this is . dumb. congratulations daichi,,, bye,,,” and then passes out at his computer researching vivosaurs

then daichi calls him back and is like asahi what the hell are you Dying. Jesus. and then tells him to quit his job and join his emo band (<-- come to fossil island) and then he does :]
