“Why haven’t you done so much as approach me?” Sadeas hissed, frustration bubbling inside him. He finally got a chance to encounter Dalinar alone, that stupid chull. He would get to the bottom of Dalinar’s sudden frigidity.

“The codes state that—“ Dalinar started.

“The codes don’t matter! Even if you look back in historical accounts, when sane people still followed the codes, soldiers would fuck each other! It’s what soldiers do! You of all people should know that, you used to be such a whore—“

“I’m not the man I once was,” Dalinar stated. “I’m something better now. More honorable. Something I hope you’ll one day come to understand.”

“You’ll get me to be ‘honorable’ over my dead body,” said Sadeas. “This has to be an excuse. Do you hate me, Dalinar? Do you find me ugly, repulsive? Have I gotten too old to catch your eye? Because believe me, you’re not doing any better than me—“

“It’s not that,” Dalinar said. “Storm it, Sadeas, why is it so hard to believe that I genuinely and truly am a good person now? Why can’t you just believe me that I’m turning over a new chapter in my life?”

“Because I burned down Rathalas with you, you storming idiot, and you seem to have forgotten that!” Dalinar’s face seemed to go blank for a few seconds as he spoke. That would do it. Sadeas wasn’t afraid to pull out the Shardblade now and again.

“My late wife has nothing to do with this,” Dalinar replied. An odd response. “I cannot have sex with you, Sadeas. It’s not from lack of want, believe me, but it’s what is right. Nohadon always said sex before marriage is horrible for one’s moral fiber.”

“Oh, you’re taking sex advice from Nohadon now?” Sadeas said incredulously. “It wasn’t enough for him to invade every other aspect of your life, now you’re taking fucking lessons from him?”

“You would understand if you read the book,” Dalinar said.

“Well, I’ve had enough talk about books and codes and the sanctity of marriage and all the other crem you’ve been spouting today. Either you want me or you don’t. So which is it?” Sadeas was at his wit’s fucking end with that man. Storms.

“I do want you, but—“ Dalinar started.

“Good enough for me,” Sadeas said, and he moved in for a rough, forceful kiss. If he broke Dalinar’s nose, so be it. If Dalinar was unwilling, so be that as well.

Dalinar was surprised at first, but matched Sadeas’s intensity, throwing himself into the kiss. That’s my Blackthorn, Sadeas thought, and he drunk in the moment, tried to make it last.

When Dalinar finally pulled away, Sadeas said quite plainly, “If you want to prove yourself, I’ll be alone in my warcamp chambers tonight. Otherwise, I’m sorry you’ve grown into such a coward.” And he strode away, feeling very much as though he had gotten the upper hand.
