Apple | WWDC'23 Highlights
:: I'm so excited for Apple Vision (why call it pro already??) I don't care if people are calling it another gimmick. Spacial Computing is going to become a bigger thing than AR, and will change how we use VR. Quote me now; in a few years we're going to be talking about Spacial Computing in much smaller/everyday portable devices. I'm also oddly really into the Journal app idea? I just think it'll be a nice way to blog/tweet/compile/save/share daily life online. The Messages updates are fun as well, but I'm more interested in how life will continue to progress in the abilities to share from handheld to desktop devices. The convo I've been having all week with people is; "what can I all connect to my ______ (for me, iPhone) so life just smoothly transitions from one device to the next". I also realize how dystopian that sounds haha! But I love the idea of walking into a space, the network detecting who I am and flipping on lights / turning on music / readying up Netflix to my last watched episode / prepping my workspace / etc. We COULD be living in some StarTrek type situations but we keep getting scared of possibilities!

ONE MORE THING
Tumblr media
Apple Vision Pro
Tumblr media
Y’all just have to watch the video for this. If Apple delivers on what they’re showing then its a big moment.
youtube
•Uses hand & eye tracking to control the device. No controllers. •Apps can react to the world around you •Look at search fields and you can just start talking to fill it out •Also the front of the device shows your eyes… its… weird…  •Calling it “Eyesight” •Supposed to make it easier for people to see where you’re paying attention
Tumblr media
•Again, this is such a weird new dynamic that its hard to describe here without seeing the visuals •Works as a 3D Camera  •Turn any space into a 3D IMAX theater
OH BOB IGER IS HERE
Tumblr media
• Ok actually watch this Disney demo. Wild stuff. But also consider of it half of it is probably fake.
•New R1 chip in addition to the M2 chip for the device. •runs “virtually silent” so it makes some noise lol •Device makes a 3D avatar of you for FaceTime calls. Like a lifelike avatar. Very different from how Meta does their calls •New images streamed to the displays in 12 milliseconds
Tumblr media
•visionOS is the name of the operating system here. The assumed name was realityOS. •Lots of developers, including Adobe & Microsoft, building support for launch •New app store for the device as well •Unlocks via Optic ID, which uses your Iris and stores information encrypted on the device •Device does not share data with developers about where you look on the screen •Over 5000 patents went into this thing
Tumblr media
•$3499  •Available early next year •that’s both more expensive and later than what as expected
And that's a wrap. Some real interesting stuff shown today. Public Betas of the software updates should be available in about a month. And if you're looking for the new iPhones or watches, you're about three months too early. Check back in September for more on that!
You can view the whole keynote from today below or a quick video recap from Apple as well.

The Apple Vision Pro: Embracing the Future of Mixed Reality
As an avid follower of Apple and other leading tech giants, I eagerly stay updated on their events and announcements, especially when it comes to new hardware, software, and platforms. These influential companies, renowned for their global consumer reach and market dominance, consistently take risks to invest in emerging trends and secure a competitive edge. While not all endeavors gain the desired traction and some are eventually abandoned, the industry is always buzzing with anticipation whenever these tech giants introduce groundbreaking innovations.
Tumblr media
The Emergence of Facial Wearable Computers:
For the past decade, numerous companies have championed the concept of facial wearable computers, promising to revolutionize the technology industry. On, June 5th 2023, during the WWDC event, Apple made a monumental announcement by unveiling their highly anticipated product, the Apple Vision Pro—an advanced augmented-reality headset scheduled to launch early next year. This venture is widely regarded as Apple's boldest gamble since the groundbreaking introduction of the iPhone over fifteen years ago, as the company ventures into a market currently dominated by Meta (formerly Facebook).
The Vision Pro: Blending Virtual and Real Worlds:
After thoroughly exploring various articles, interviews, and firsthand experiences shared by media personalities who had the opportunity to test the device in controlled environments, I discovered that the Apple Vision Pro sets itself apart as an Mixed reality gadget rather than a virtual reality headset or just a Augmented reality headset. What truly distinguishes it is its unique surrounding-aware feature, enabling the overlay of visuals onto our natural perception of the physical world. This remarkable capability places it on par with Meta quest Pro.
Tumblr media
Impacting Industries:
Based on my comprehensive research, I firmly believe that the Apple Vision Pro possesses the potential to revolutionize several industries, transforming user experiences across various domains:
Sports & Entertainment: The home entertainment sector is poised for a significant leap with the Vision Pro, offering users an incredibly immersive experience. Imagine sitting on your couch and feeling as if you're an active participant in a theatrical performance, concert, or sporting event. Although only one person can enjoy the experience at a time, the immersive content, combined with the potential for "Family Sharing," creates a surreal home entertainment atmosphere.
Gaming: Undoubtedly, gaming will witness one of the most profound impacts from the Apple Vision Pro. The integration of hand gestures and the device's immersive capabilities will elevate racing and action games to new levels of captivation. Anticipate a surge in the popularity of massive multiplayer and role-playing games that can fully leverage the Vision Pro's features.
eCommerce: The unstoppable rise of direct-to-consumer and eCommerce shopping is set to reach unprecedented heights with the Apple Vision Pro. Imagine purchasing home decor or furniture and being able to virtually visualize how it fits and appears in your living space, almost as if experiencing it in a life-size and realistic environment. Additionally, other shopping genres such as fashion and apparel can offer similar experiences using life-size self-avatars. Real-time shopping is on the cusp of a game-changing transformation.
Education & Learning: Augmented reality has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of teaching, and the Apple Vision Pro can play a significant role in making learning more captivating and immersive. Subjects like mathematics, science, chemistry, space travel, astronomy, engineering, and medical education could undergo a revolutionary transformation with the integration of this technology. The Apple Vision Pro has the capability to revolutionize skill development and primary education, providing students with new and engaging ways to learn.
Numerous industries and sectors can also reap the benefits of spatial computing. While there are already many players in the market, Apple's dedication to consumer experience and safety is expected to inspire the entire industry. With the introduction of new devices, competitive pricing, and a robust ecosystem, the Apple Vision Pro has the potential to drive the growth of the next phase of digital and virtual experiences. We can anticipate a multitude of innovative advancements to follow in its wake.

iOS 17 Has Some New Tricks up its Sleeve
Tumblr media
Apple's WWDC 2023 showcase was met with much anticipation and fanfare from fans of the Cupertino-based brand, and the new products that were shown off at the event were undoubtedly some of the most exciting that we've seen from Apple in recent years. With that in mind, Apple also announced some upcoming updates to several of its software products, including its mobile platform - iOS 17 is just around the corner, and it brings a ton of upgrades to everyday functionality. For this one, we're taking a look at the big highlights of iOS 17 - let's get started! Journal App Apple announced a new app with iOS 17 in the form of "Journal." The company says that the app is geared towards improving personal well-being and mental health, and lets users keep a track of their own personal life journal based on suggestions courtesy of machine learning - this will include recent activities, photos, people, places, workouts, and more. Updates to Calling Apps Users can now assign personalised Contact Posters via the phone app, which changes how they appear during calls and will take effect via the Phone app as well as third-party calling apps. Users can customize this feature using photos, fonts and Memoji. Additionally, Live Voicemail will allow users to see real-time transcription as someone leaves a voicemail, and the opportunity to pick up while the caller is leaving their message. Spam calls will be instantly declined as well if detected by the carrier as such. FaceTime also gets some new features - users can now send audio and video messages when calling someone who isn't available at the time of the call. New reactions such as hearts, balloons, and more will also be accessible to users during calls. FaceTime users can also use Continuity Camera to start a video call directly from Apple TV, or start the call on iPhone and then hand it off to Apple TV. Messages gets a Boost The Apple Messages app also gets updates with iOS 17, including access to new emoji stickers, as well as the ability to create Live Stickers by lifting subjects from photos. Users can also add effects to Live Stickers, with an easily-accessible shortcut via the keyboard that stores all of a user’s stickers in one place for easier access. The Search function has also been update, with more precise search filters which makes sifting through your messages a lit easier. Apple has also added a new catch-up arrow that indicates where the user last left off in the conversation. Real-time location sharing is now possible in addition to Check In, which notifies a user's contacts if they have arrived at their destination. Voice messages will now support real-time audio transcription as well. More importantly, Apple says that it has improved iOS' Autocorrect feature, which has long been a thorn in the side for many iPhone users. The new update makes use of a a transformer language model, which helps out with machine learning capabilities for language prediction. File Sharing Building on iOS' AiDrop functionality, Apple also introduced "NameDrop," a new feature that allows users to easily share contact information by simply bringing their iPhones together, or by bringing an iPhone and Apple Watch together. Using gestures, users can also share content or start SharePlay to listen to music, watch a movie, or play a game while in close proximity between iPhone devices. Glanceable Information iOS 17 also comes with StandBy, allowing users to view glanceable information when their iPhone is on its side and charging. StandBy works similar to a smart home display, and Apple says it is perfect for nightstands, kitchen counter, desks and such. Users can personalise their display with a variety of clock styles, favourite photos and widgets, and it also comes with support for Live Activities, Siri, incoming calls, and larger notifications. The iOS 17 developer beta is now available for Apple Developer Program members at developer.apple.com, with a public beta scheduled for release next month. (you can check out more features here). WWDC 2023: A Look at the New Features for Developers
Tumblr media
Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference is anticipated to be one of its most significant events yet, as the company may finally unveil its mixed reality headset after years of speculation and leaked information. This move would not only introduce Apple into a new product category but also showcase its efforts to demonstrate the value of investing in virtual reality.  Additionally, the conference is expected to include operating system updates, new apps and features, and potentially new hardware. We have compiled information on the main WWDC keynote and some of the anticipated Apple announcements, including when and how to watch them. Apple has announced that the primary WWDC keynote for this year will occur on Monday, June 5th, at 1PM ET / 10AM PT. The event will take place both digitally and in-person at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. Tim Cook, Apple CEO, is expected to begin the proceedings. Where can I watch WWDC? The WWDC keynote will be available for live streaming on Apple's website and YouTube channel. Once it goes live, the stream will also be embedded at the top of this article. If you are unable to watch it live, Apple will post a pre-recorded version on YouTube for later viewing. Now, let's delve into the major announcements that we anticipate Apple will make at WWDC. What’s next for Apple? Apple has many new Mac models in the works. Although it's uncertain if all of these will be revealed at the WWDC, it remains a possibility. Apart from the aforementioned MacBooks, several new products, including a Mac Pro with an in-house Apple chip, an updated 24-inch iMac, and two Mac Studio models, are being constructed.  Furthermore, we're keeping a close eye on Apple's AI developments. While there hasn't been much buzz regarding their AI pursuits, the company's job postings show a keen interest in hiring AI experts. In addition, ChatGPT has recently been banned for Apple staff due to data privacy worries, indicating that the corporation might be creating its own AI tool for workers, similar to Samsung.  Of course, we'll also be anticipating the launch of the iPhone 15 later this year. According to rumors, all models of the iPhone 15 will feature Dynamic Island (not just the Pro), as well as a USB-C port, a result of another EU regulation. However, we'll have to wait until September for that. Developers can look forward to updates to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and more at the WWDC event. Rumors suggest that iOS 17 will bring various quality-of-life updates, including a Personal Voice tool and an iPhone lockscreen feature. iPadOS 17 may address technical issues with Stage Manager. While little is known about macOS 14 and tvOS 17, watchOS 10 is expected to receive a significant update with a new widget-heavy interface. Read the full article
